A man caught with several pirated DVDs of animals having sex with females, which he sold to children, was fined $1.3 million in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court.
Investigating officer, Detective Corporal Kirk Roache, told the court on November 4, Richard Johnson, 18, labourer of Chambers Lane, Spanish Town, St Catherine, was caught selling the DVDs to several children in uniform.
He said when checks were made, the 13 DVDs, depicting various animals, including dogs and horses, having sex with females, was being shown to the students. Johnson was charged with breaching the Copyright Act.
Johnson pleaded guilty but tried to hide his age. "I am 17-year-old, Your Honour," he told the RM.
But checks revealed that Johnson turned 18 in September. Having heard that, the RM imposed a fine of $100,000 on each DVD and remanded Johnson until Friday to study the Copyright Act further.
The court also learnt that several persons charged with breaches of the Copyright Act have been saying they are juveniles to attract a lesser fine.
