Aaliyah killed in Bahamas plane crash

August

R&B singer and actress Aaliyah died Aug. 25 when a Cessna 402B carrying her and eight others crashed after takeoff in the Bahamas. The plane was bound for Opa-locka in Miami-Dade County. (Jim Cooper/AP photo)



A promising young singer was headed to Miami from a music video shoot in the Bahamas when the small-engine plane she boarded exploded before ever leaving the runway.

That was seven years ago from this August day.

Aaliyah Haugton, discovered by R&B icon R. Kelly, was dead at age 22.

Seven other passengers including the pilot were also killed.
