Davis was arrested at the house, said sheriff's spokesman Mike Jachles.

Davis later told investigators that he grabbed Buchanan by the throat during an argument.

He then threw her down and her head struck the floor, Jachles said.

Authorities said he continued to choke her as she lay on the floor.

"There was no knife, no gun, just his hands," Jachles said.

Property records show Davis has owned the house since 1980.

A group of people in the house on Wednesday declined to comment.

Davis has been convicted of various crimes since the 1960s; his last conviction was in 1996 for driving under the influence, according to state records.

Buchanan was convicted in 2002 for aggravated assault. She was sentenced to three months in jail and 21 months of probation, state records show.
