ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- Police are investigating more smash-and-grab burglaries, but what happened to a car dealership on Wells Road over the weekend is beyond anything Clay County deputies have seen. Thieves cut through the chain on the entrance gates of Mike Shad Nissan sometime between 11 p.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. Sunday, threw a brick through the front door and entered the showroom, deputies said. According to the incident report, the storage cabinets and desks were ransacked. Several sets of keys were missing.
Four cars worth about $78,000 were stolen, along with a GPS navigation system, two digital cameras and several temporary dealer license tags. The Nissan vehicles stolen were two 2008 four-door Sentras, a 2009 four-door Maxima and a 2007 four-door Versa. Investigators said one of the Sentras was driven away through the glass doors and panels of the showroom, leaving behind shattered glass and bent metal frames. The Clay County Sheriff's Office said they have put out alerts for the vehicles with surrounding agencies and said they aggressively investigating the case.
