If you're into buried treasure, exotic locations and romantic intrigue, then Fool's Gold is for you.
Set in Key West, The Bahamas, the movie is about a recently divorced couple who fight their way through an adventure-packed deep sea treasure hunt.
still in love
The story tells the tale of Ben 'Finn' Finnegan (Matthew McConaughey) who is still in love with ex-wife Tess (Kate Hudson), while they scour the ocean floor for the legendary Queen's Dowry - 40 chests of exotic treasure - lost at sea in 1715.
After eight years of searching, Finn finally discovers a vital clue as to the whereabouts of the treasure. But it is not that easy. Finn is deeply indebted to a gangster - Bigg Bunny - who wants his money and who is also searching for the treasure. This makes the treasure hunt all the more intriguing.
deception
Finn, with a little deception, 'encourages' billionaire Nigel Honeycutt (Donald Sutherland) and his daughter to help with his quest. This unlikely bunch is thrown together for the ride of their lives.
However, all that glitters is not gold and that aptly describes Fool's Gold.
The movie takes awhile to grab you and suddenly after, the plot quickly unravels.
There is also the nuisance of unnecessary characters and scenes. All in all, not a bad effort on the part of the film-makers.
I'd give this moviestars based on its healthy dose of laughter and the crazy things people do for love.
