Quebec-A web site that has been very popular that exchanged web clips, TV episodes, music and other online content has been ordered to shut down.
The Quebec Superior Court has ordered the permanent cease and desist order against QuebecTorrent, and its administrators have to shut it down.
It is the first of its kind injunction issued in Canada, and spells the death knoll for the popular Internet Web site.
It marks a victory for the big business music and movie industries, such as Sony, Warner Bros, and other large companies that often felt that QuebecTorrent was in violation of copyright and other issues.
The large owners of these copyrighted works maintain that the QuebecTorrent web site was causing a huge loss of possible earnings by allowing copyrighted works to be shared without any payment to the authors, actors, or owners of the material.
This injunction sends a clear and strong message to different Internet Web sites, similar to QuebecTorrent, that they face possible and likely legal action if they are engaging in illegal downloading and file sharing operations.
Canadian copyright rules and laws say that material that is copy protected and copyrighted should not be shared without the consent of the author or rights holder.
