A GRANNY accused of hiring a hitman to kill her hubby 22 years ago is suspected of foul play over the deaths of her other four husbands.

Betty Neumar, 76, was arrested after detectives uncovered new evidence on the 1986 gun murder of Harold Gentry.

They found she was tens of thousands of pounds in debt with 36 credit cards at the time and had asked several people to kill the 48-year-old.

After he died Neumar, dubbed the Black Widow, collected his £10,000 life insurance and moved away.

Now the deaths of her first four husbands dating back to the 1950s have been reopened.

Two others were similarly shot dead and cops say the first death was also suspicious.

They seized the urn of fifth hubby John Neumar at the grans home in Richmond County, Georgia, US, and are carrying out tests on his ashes.

He was believed to have died of infection sepsis last October.

But police now fear she poisoned him with arsenic which causes similar symptoms.

The widow cremated the 79-year-olds body so quickly his son John Jnr was not even aware of the funeral.

He said: She never called me and told me he was sick or nothing.

I found out he was dead when I read about it in the paper. Before I could go see him, he was cremated.

Neumar is being held on a charge of the solicitation of Harolds murder.

His brother Al, who persuaded detectives to reinvestigate his death, said she acted shadily when he died, blurting out an alibi.

Neumar also showed little emotion over his death.

Al revealed: If she had tears in her eyes or asked why anybody would kill him, Id never have suspected. Thats where she slipped up.

He also said Neumar lied about her background, claiming at one stage to be a beautician, at other times a nurse.
