Concerned citizens in Allman Town in central Kingston yesterday called police to the home in the community where a seven-year-old child was tied up in an ants nest as punishment.
The police who went to the residence made the shocking discovery after residents called them when they saw the child left outside for several hours.
It is alleged that the child was being punished and so was chained up outside the yard in an ants nest. It is reported that this was not the first time the child was being ill-treated, and has suffered other forms of abuse, including being burnt.
MOTHER ARRESTED
The mother of the child and the landlord for the premises where the abuse took place were arrested and charged with child abuse.
Both persons and the child were immediately taken to the Family Court yesterday and the child was removed from the home and put into a place of safety.
The police also had to call a locksmith to remove the chains that were attached to the child's leg. The mother and landlord are to return to court on June 24.
