JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police are looking for up to three gunmen who shot a 7-year-old in Northwest Jacksonville Wednesday night.
According to the police report, the boy was shot in the leg just after 8 p.m. while in the bedroom of his grandparents' house in the 1100 block of West 22nd Street.
Police said they believe the bullet that came through the window of the bedroom came from a carjacking incident that was taking place outside.
Neighbors told police they heard shouting in the street and saw three black men wearing masks trying to rob two victims. The witnesses heard at least three gunshots fired as the victims fled. Police said they believe it is one of those shots that hit the child.
The R.L. Brown Elementary School student was taken to Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center with non-life-threatening injures.
Police said they believe the gunman could still be driving the white 1990 Buick LeSabre they that was stolen in the incident or a Jeep Cherokee with a Florida tag number beginning with X69.
Police ask that anyone with any information that could help catch the gunman call 866-845-TIPS
