The Central Village police in St Catherine are searching for a man who reportedly sexually molested a three-year-old boy, which resulted in the child being hospitalised.
It is alleged that on Monday, the child's parent left the boy at home to get transportation for another sibling who was going to school. When the parent returned the infant was missing. He was later located nearby in distress.
He reportedly told his parents that a man with long hair took him into the bushes, took away the food that his parents had packed for him to take to school and violated him (via anal sex). The child was rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital but later transferred to another institution.
Several concerned policemen expressed sadness at the cruel act meted out to the child. "Bwoy, if a did fi mi pickney, mi woulda a walk pon di road naked right now. It really wicked man," said a corporal.
The police said although persons have been warned of strict penalties when offences are committed against children, the child-abuse incidents are still prevalent.
