Four illegal guns seized

Teenagers among those charged

Two teenagers were among three persons who were arrested and charged in connection with the seizure of illegal firearms in St. James between Tuesday, April 15 and Thursday, April 17, 2008.

Facing gun related charges are 18 year-old Kemar Witter of Copperwood St., James, 17 year-old Tishaine Michaels of Peter Pan Avenue, Brandon Hill, Montego Bay and 22 year-old Adrian Lee.

Constabulary Communications Network (CCN) Liaison Officer for St. James, Cpl. Camile Tracey, told the mediazone that on Tuesday, about 10:15 p.m., members of a police team were on patrol in the Barnett Street area when they signalled a Toyota Corolla which had three passengers on board to stop.

All three persons were searched and a firearm, a .38 Smith and Wesson revolver with serial number ANCZ789 was taken from Witter who was a passenger in the vehicle. Witter was subsequently arrested and charged with illegal possession of firearm.

Then on Wednesday, a 9 mm Ruger pistol with serial number 305261127 and contained an empty magazine was seized during a joint police/military operation which was conducted in Maldon, St. James.

A house which was being occupied by Lee was searched and the weapon was found. He was later arrested and charged with illegal possession of firearm.

Tishaine Michaels was also arrested and charged with illegal possession of firearm and robbery with aggravation, after a .357 Magnum Revolver with serial number 15841541 and containing six live rounds was taken from his house along Peter Pan Avenue in Brandon Hill, Montego Bay, during a police raid.

Cpl. Tracey also revealed that a quantity of clothing that was reported stolen, was also removed from the dwelling by the cops.

The police again recovered another illegal firearm on Thursday in the Catherine Hall community in Montego Bay.

A group of policemen were on patrol in the community when they saw three men who were acting suspiciously. They stopped and approached the men who then ran. A search of the area yielded a .38 revolver with serial number ICI29856 and two spent shells.
