The Savanna-la-Mar police recovered an illegal firearm in Bath District, Westmoreland on Tuesday and charged one man in connection with the find.


Charged with possession of illegal firearm and ammunition is 26 year-old Julian Richards also known as Ricky.


Reports from the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) in Westmoreland are that at about 1:30 pm, the Savanna-la-Mar police were carrying out an operation in the Bath community.


During the exercise a premises occupied by Richards was searched and a homemade shotgun with three 12 gauge cartridges were discovered.


He was subsequently arrested and charged and is scheduled to appear in the Western Regional gun Court on April 16.


The find brings the number of illegal gun recovered in the parish since the start of the year to three, five less than for the corresponding period last year.


The Savanna-la-Mar police are investigating.
