After waiting several years for that elusive hit to launch him into mainstream dancehall limelight, the hardworking Leon Danger is now upbeat about this prospect with his newest release The Plane Come. In the summer of 2005 a very catchy rhythm called Spiritual was taking Jamaica by storm. The rhythm was made very popular by Jah Cures True Reflection, Gyptians Serious Times and Q-Qs Better Must Come and Poverty. On this same rhythm too was Leon Dangers single entitled Joe Grine which added further popularity to the Spiritual rhythm. However, this did not bring him the response he so badly sought.
Then came the month of November 2005, sound systems and radio stations all over Jamaica were playing Leons newest release Not So Lucky which was an answer to Nankos big number one single Lucky You. This was produced by Leon himself and his daughter Sashana (18) on his Hillsman label. This still was not quite what Leon anticipated. However, he thinks the The Plane Come has so far given him an optimistic feeling toward his first major hit.
Leon Danger first started to hone his deejay skills 18 years ago after receiving much inspiration from former DJ kingpin, Josey Wales. Interestingly, some people say he sounded like Professor Nuts another one-time top-notch deejay.
Born in Clarendon, Leon Danger graduated from Cross Hill All-Age in Clarendon with an ambition of making a statement in the entertainment fraternity of Jamaica. He went close to doing so in 1989 when he topped a talent contest hosted by one-time number one radio personality Barry Barry G Gordon.
Always looking forward to his birthday on the 23rd of August, Leon Danger was first called Mawga Man because of slender his frame. But when he was sought to do a recording for a new studio called Creative, the boss felt that he had put on too much weight to be called Mawga Man, so he suggested a change of name. He was christened Leon Walker. His father is the proprietor of a lumber yard.
