VLC (initially VideoLAN Client) is a highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, ) as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. It can also be used as a server to stream in unicast or multicast in IPv4 or IPv6 on a high-bandwidth network.

Now if you are not in love with the interface, you can always just keep it around as a backup program. Just in case you run into that one video that has the wacky format you can not play. VLC Media Player is a good alternative or backup solution so you dont have to go hunting for hours for a specific player for that specific format.
