"Our staff had to identify the roofers and then," she pauses to compose herself. "And then the birds would have blades attached to their spurs."
"We came across a number of birds with legs missing, eyes missing," confirms Shawn Eccles of the SPCA.
Officials from the group were forced to destroy more than 1200 birds.
A 58-year-old man is charged in the case. He faces a maximum penalty of 6 months in jail or a 2-thousand dollar fine and a two-year ban on owning animals.
