When Sanjay released Man of My Word on the Guardian Angel Riddim for the Fresh Air Label in 2007, it was hailed as one of the top reggae songs of 2007. Man of My Word was a turning point in the career of the artiste who has over the years been known for his thoughtful and lyrical tunes.
Now, Sanjay is back with a new track that is destined to be a hit and might even eclipse 'Man Of My Word' in popularity. Recorded on the Legal Riddim for the Renaissance label, Sanjay's new song Lonely presents itself as the heartfelt beckon of a lonely man. Lonely manifests some of the best lyrics Sanjay has produced and will definitely appeal to his current fans while winning him some more. Lonely exposes Sanjay's true talent and proves that the sometimes dancehall artistes is immensely versatile and can hold his own on a one drop riddim.
Not only has Sanjay cemented his position as a reggae artiste with the Track Lonely but he has also produced a cutting edge video that compliments the quality of the song. Sanjay premiered the video for Lonely Friday, February 15th 2008 on TVJ's Entertainment Report and based on initial reports the video was of a high quality, rarely seen on the local scene.
Sanjay decides at the end of the video to make a transformation and cuts hair on screen. In Lonely we watch Sanjay go through a metamorphosis, a rebirth.
Lonely was filmed at various locations in Kingston and mirrors the song perfectly. Directed Kimala 'Lala' Bennet of the Production Lab and produced by Melissa Lewellyn, the Lonely video is a sign of Sanjay's appreciation for the art of music. In the video Sanjay laments his loneliness while constantly and coincidentally running into an attractive young woman but never getting the chance to make her acquaintance. The lonely video is fraught with imagery completed with the ultimate symbol of letting go.
