Areas of St Johns Road in Spanish Town are now tense, following a double murder in the community yesterday, the second in a six-day period.Those killed in the latest incident are Ronald Robinson, 51, labourer and 21-year-old Omar Powell of St Johns Road addresses. Reports from the police are that about 8:40 a.m. Powell, who is known as 'Juicy', was at his fruit stall in an area known as Cleighton Heights, when he was approached by three men armed with high-powered weapons. The men started to fire shots, hitting him and Robinson who was standing nearby, Powell died on the spot, Robinson collapsed a short distance from the area. The Star visited the area and found residents expressing concerns. "Lawd mi God, mi ca'an come out of mi house again as them ya gunman not playing, ah Ash Wednesday them kill two man dun the road and this is what happen this morning," remarked a female resident. Meanwhile, Cynthia Thompson, Robinson's mother, wept uncontrollably. She was overheard shouting, "Mi waan the key fe mi pickney, him tell mi fe come check him fe something an this a what happen." Several residents claimed that the area seems to be returning to the time when gunshots were fired repeatedly. In the meantime, the St Catherine North Homicide is conducting an investigation in the matter, which is the 29th murder in the division since the start of 2008. On Ash Wednesday Brian Manzie and Christopher Warner were killed.
