Mavado delivers on promise to Connect Jamaica

Dancehall superstar Mavado has started the year where he left off; his "On The Rock" track has become an instant hit and coupled with winning several awards, 2008 has jumped off with a bang. Determined to put his charity - Connect Jamaica - to the forefront, Mavado gave away two computers to the Golden Spring Basic School and Stony Hill Junior High on Friday.

"I promised that I would use proceeds form my Real McKoy Birthday Bash in December to buy computers," said the Alliance member. "The whole country knows what happened with the police conducting their operation that night, which cut the dance very short and caused us to lose a lot of money. However I had made my promise so I had to fulfill it, hence the computers and printers being given away in communities near to the venue in Temple Hall."

Principal of Golden Spring Basic School, Marcia Mitchell, was over the moon with the donation by Mavado; "When I heard we were getting computers I really had to thank the Lord and know that he really answered my prayers," she beamed upon receiving the computers and printers. "We have 165 children at the school and I don't even have a computer in my office. I usually have to write everything in a book for administration so it will be good to come into the age of technology. The children will be using it also so Mavado's donation will have double benefit. Not many people remember the little ones so for him to do this is truly special We are so thankful to him."

The children of the Golden Spring school made a huge Thank You card for Mavado to show their appreciation.

Stony Hill Junior High Principal Earl Samuels ensured the whole school was assembled in the playground to show their appreciation to Mavado. As these children are of an older and more impressionable age group, Mavado gave them a motivational speech about the necessity of education and staying in school.

"We live in a world that is run by technology so make sure you are computer literate," he urged. "Education is the key so stay in school and do you best to learn while you are here."
