Murder convict Donald 'Zeeks' Phipps is scheduled to appear before the Court of Appeal later this month to apply for bail, pending the hearing of his plea against his conviction and life sentence in 2006.
The bail application for the reputed Matthews Lane strongman is set for hearing on February 19. A date for the murder appeal is not yet scheduled.
Phipps was convicted on April 12, 2006 for the murders of Rodney Leroy Farquharson and Dayton Williams, of Bayshore Park in Eastern Kingston. He was sentenced to life on May 30 of that year and ordered to spend 30 years behind bars before being considered for parole.
The burnt remains of the men, with gunshot wounds to the heads, were found in an open lot along Rose Lane, Downtown Kingston on April 15, 2005.
Phipps said in his appeal that his trial was unfair and amounted to an abuse of process of the court and that there were actions in the case that amounted to a deliberate violation of his rights as an accused, among other things.
