Earlier today 876radio.com received a text message from an anonymous source that read.
"It is very malicious on the part of the Star to publish a picture without first ascertaining the origin of the photo or confirming the authenticity of the picture and/or its content and as such I have no choice but to take legal action against the Gleaner Company of Jamaica because it obvious they seek to defame my character".
So first instinct was to head for a copy of the local paper upon our acquisition, the story needed no introduction as we were greeted by a large photo on the cover with four men two of whom had likeness to that of deejays Aidonia and Vybz Kartel holding some high powered weapons.
Upon further investigation it was revealed that the two entertainers were locked in a meeting with their attorneys with the intention of pursuing legal actions against The Gleaner Company of Jamaica Ltd. for defamation of character.
According to a statement released by Ms. Valrie Neita-Robertson she said, We view with some concern the publishing of a photo by The Star in circumstances where the authenticity of the document as well as its origin is not known by the newspaper especially in circumstances where that same newspaper has certain ethical guidelines which it has laid down for itself with respect to news reporting,.
In the same breath that the statement was made a challenge was also issued to the Police to prove the authenticity of the photo as it is said that the photograph was taken outside of the geographical boundaries and jurisdiction of Jamaica. Even though members of Operation Kingfish are adamant that the photo is 100% authentic.
Efforts by our team to reach the Constabulary Communication Network for a comment proved futile.
