Residents of Portmore and surrounding areas are set to benefit from a cultural experience as the Portmore Wellness Centre will present their seventh annual Black History Month concert at the Portmore Heart Academy auditorium on February 17.
According to Simone Baker, one of the organisers, the aim of the activities is to awake the consciousness of black people as to their true history and what it means to celebrate the occasion and as such it will be held under the team, 'The Best of Black History, Dance, Music and Drama'.
The occasion, which will start at 3 p.m., will have persons entertained, by way of drumming, dance, songs and poetry and to add to all this, it will be free to attend.
The show will be emceed by Christopher 'Johnny' Daley and Tricia Lee, and according to Baker it will live up to the theme of being the best of black history.
February will be celebrated as Black History Month and as such the organisers hoped that, once more, their efforts to awake the minds of the people will be rewarded in their turnout in great numbers to enjoy the Sunday evening activity.
Meanwhile Mayor of Portmore, Keith Hinds, told THE PORTMORE STAR that he endorsed the concert and will be doing all in his power to give his support to the organisers.
"I think its a good thing and as such I will be supporting it one way or another," he said.
