Charts Rundown (Jan. 25) - Erup, Deva Bratt artistes to watch in 2008

Demarco's Fallen Soldiers ruled the month of January as it has maintained the # 1 Position for four consecutive weeks on the HYPE TV charts. This is quite an accomplishment and a great start for this young rookie sensation for the New Year. Well done Mr. Demarco!!

Queen Ifrica's Daddy Don't Touch Me There remains in # 2 Position. Is this song really destined for the top and will Demarco ever give it the opportunity to shine at the top?

Erup is setting all the records to be beaten on the chart as his Click My Finger rose to the # 4 Position after only five weeks on the chart. Mr. Erup certainly deserves an award for such feat, but the top post is the only spot that counts so let's see if he can also crab that post at a record pace. Therefore the song is not surprisingly this week 'Shot to Watch'

'The Greatest Gainer' is Sean Paul's Pick It Up & Drop It as the song moved four spots up from the # 11 position to the # 7 Position. He seems to be ready again to heat up the international market with his new hit.

The artistes seems to be working very hard this year as there are again two 'New Entries' this week on the chart. The first new entry for this week is at the # 19 Position with Gussie Clark by Deva Bratt, a song that is on the same rhythm as Erups runaway  hit. The other new entry is Prestige's I'm Blessed, this song makes its debut at the # 20 Position. The dancehall industry is getting a much-needed boost from this crop of talented new artistes that include Deva Bratt, Demarco and Prestige. All appear to be doing exceptionally well as the new year rolls on.

ERUP #1 on RE CHARTS
erup3.jpgIn the meantime, Erup has roared to the pole position of the local RE TV dancehall charts with Click My Finger, which is enjoying its first week in the top spot.

There are three new entries this week with Matterhorns Chicken Fries and Gully Beans, selector Charly Blacks Nuff Love/Buddy Buddy and Elephant Mans Wine for Me all making bold moves. Vybz Kartels My Scheme holds steady at #6 while his protégé Blak Ryno is on the verge of scoring his first major chart hit with Mek Di Paper which is bubbling. Demarcos Duppy Know Who Fi Frighten continues to maintain its popularity at the #16 position while Mavados Force It Up jumps two places to #16.

Look out for Charly Blacks Backshot Time/Wining Time is also bubbling on the chart. While on the RE TV reggae charts, Queen Ifricas Daddy is still the #1 song after four weeks. There are a slew of new entries with Christopher Martins Nah Go Change, Duane Stephensons August Town/Fairy Tale, and Etanas Warrior Love leading the charge. Look out for the Jimmy Riley/Tarrus Riley combination, Pull Up Selector.

IFRICA HAS TWO TOP SONGS ON JAMAICA MUSIC COUNTDOWN
On the Jamaica Music Countdown reggae charts, Queen Ifrica holds the top two positions with her monster hits, Daddy and Mi Nah Rub, cementing her claim to be the top female artiste in Jamaica.

Voicemails song, Bembe is making a strong move on the dancehall charts entering at #19, but the songs to watch are Mykal Roses ultra popular Shoot Out for producer John John and Harry Toddlers Dont Run In which stormed up the charts to the #9 position, leapfrogging at least four other songs on its way to the top ten. Mungas When My Gun Rise continued to falter and dropped to #17.

Shaggys Intoxication remains the #1 album while Courtney Johns Sometimes has demonstrated remarkable staying power at #2, sales perhaps buoyed by the sales of the beautiful Sometimes which is #7 on the reggae charts.
