Beenie Man to face trial for tax evasion in March

Tuesday, 22 January 2008 Image International dancehall artiste, Moses Davis, popularly known as Beenie Man is expected to face trial on March 25 for tax evasion.

When the case was last heard on December 10, Beenie Man's lawyers said they would hold talks with the tax authorities regarding his multi-million dollar tax Tax representatives reportedly told the Court Tuesday that Beenie Man visited their offices only once.

It is understood that Beenie Man gave no clear indication on how he would settle the tax debt

Last year the court was told that the artiste was trying to obtain documents from his former management company, Shocking Vibes, which will assist him in making a case before the Tax Department.

Mr. Davis was taken into custody on a warrant in October after he failed to appear before the Tax Court to answer charges of tax evasion.

The tax authorities allege that the entertainer owes the state $47 million in income tax.

Beenie Man, who was in Court Tuesday, has blamed his former management company Shocking Vibes for his dilemma.

He claims the company was responsible for paying all his taxes.

Efforts to reach Beenie Man were unsuccessful.

Attorneys representing the Tax Department were also unavailable for comment.
