Popular entertainer Danny English, whose real name is Donald Cox, was denied bail when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday to answer to four counts of carnal abuse and one count of indecent assault.
Cox, 36, of a Waltham Avenue, Kingston 13 address, is accused of molesting the now 15-year-old complainant since December 2004.
The court learnt that Cox once lived with the complainant's family and still maintained a close relationship with the complainant and her siblings even after he moved away. The complainant reportedly visited his house frequently, and it is during these visits that the reported molestation occurred. Cox was arrested and charged on July 6, by officers from the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse.
Length of time
When he appeared before RM Judith Pusey, his lawyer attempted to make a bail application, but was stopped short by the RM who told the court: "I am very reluctant to grant bail because of the number of times and how long this thing has been going on. I'm not comfortable with granting bail in these situations. This has been going on for three years."
A preliminary enquiry into the matter was set for July 16 and Cox will be remanded until this date. He was ordered to have his fingerprints taken and the RM also ordered that a blood test be done.
