A local evangelist is demanding a musical clash with Dancehall superstar Vybz Kartel.

Evangelist Taylor, who didn't want the name of the church he attends published, says he wants Isaiah Laing, the promoter of the annual Sting show, to arrange a clash between himself and Kartel.

"I want Laing to organise that clash, because Mr Vybz Kartel has been leading the generation astray for too long and we have to stop him. He is deceiving them," said the evangelist.

He accused the deejay of several immoral actions: "He's high in the demonic world, says he reads The Da Vinci Code book ...," the evangelist claims.

"We need to trample Vybz Kartel, we're fed up of him now. Other pastors and I sit down and we listen to his songs, he is the one, there is a great force behind him," he further stated.

He said in the deejay's music you can feel the power behind it. "His words are powerful. I want to clash him and after I beat him we will baptise him in the name of The Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit. We'll put him in the church and let him teach Sunday school," he said.

The evangelist said that Kartel is a well-educated young man, who is fooling around and not using his education in the right way. Pointing out how sensible the deejay was, the evangelist referred to his song Thank You Jah in which he quotes a section of the Bible.

He complained, however, that instead of doing more positive things, the deejay is passing on gun lyrics to the children.

"He sings that the barba boy run but the preacher will never run. We don't want the Portmore Empire, because once I get him, I get the whole Gaza. I will call him up and tell him that he's destroying the youths, the spirit of the Lord will speak through me. I want him to become a speaker for the Lord as he has the ability to turn Jamaica around. He's the only one we see with that power," he added.

Last Tuesday, a mere two days before he was scheduled to perform at Reggae Sumfest 2010's Dancehall Night, deejay Elephant Man's Mercedes Benz was seized in a tax evasion operation. Elephant Man performed on his own, then in combination with Bounty Killer at the close of the latter's set with This Is How We Do It.

And on Saturday, during an unexpected appearance along with Mavado at the Sumfest press conference, held at the Iberostar Hotel in Montego Bay, Bounty Killer expressed his dissatisfaction with the relationship between taxation and government input into music.

"I don't see any development of the government towards music," he said, noting that an aspiring artiste cannot get a loan to assist in getting a demo done. However, Bounty said, "when you burst (buss) the taxman after you".

"At least some percentage must go back towards the revenue it come from," he said.

As he was on Dancehall Night, when Bounty was determined to speak on current issues to the audience, at the press conference he also addressed a number of matters. "I am the poor people's governor. I am always on the front defending the people," he said from the get go. Mentioning the killing of Voicemail's Oneil and Cobra being shot and wounded, the incursion into Tivoli and the then just ended state of emergency, he addressed the overall tone of Dancehall Night.

"This morning was really warm and together. I even big up Vybz Kartel over and over. We do not have to be friends and associates, but we have to live in the same alliance. We do not have to be in the same allegiance, but we are all Jamaicans," he said.

He continues to press for some consideration to be given to extending dancehall's official hours. "The 2 o'clock shutting down, it need to be addressed," he said, noting that in the Corporate Area consideration has to be given to other people. "But when we go over like Caymanas Polo Club, that is ridiculous. That is in the bush," he said.

And he advised the power that be "like how them go look for the bad guys in Tivoli, they must go look for the good guys. I want the government to be enforced with a state of urgency, just as they had a state of emergency".

THE palatial upper St Andrew home of deposed Tivoli Gardens don, Christopher 'Dudus' Coke was burgled this week. Police remain tight-lipped about the incident but confirmed that several appliances and items of clothing were stolen.

Quick action by the St Andrew North Police resulted in the recovery of several of the stolen items.

"We recovered some of the stuff including three flat screen televisions, other appliances and clothes. We will not say where the goods were recovered in order to protect the residents of that community," a senior cop in the division told the Observer.

Coke's three-storey house is located in the upscale community of Plantation Heights.

The cops say they have increased their presence in the area after they received information that several thugs loyal to Coke were seen there.

Usain Bolt thinks about winning the gold medal more than setting another world record.

He worries about entertaining the fans as much as establishing a legacy.

Tracks fun-loving Jamaican star told The Associated Press he still believes 100 metres can be run in the 9.4-second range, but that his biggest goal at the London Olympics in two years will be simply to win the gold medal again.

Im always just happy with a gold medal, he said. If we go there and nobody breaks a record, Ill always have the record and theres no worries for me.

At Beijing in 2008, he smashed the world record in both the 100 and 200 and celebrated in style shooting that fake bow and arrow into the sky before the race, dancing after the finish line and turning the Birds Nest into his own private playground. He improved on his 100-metre record last year at the World Championships. It currently stands at 9.58 seconds and he thinks he can go lower.

I always say that probably 9.4 is possible, Bolt said. I hope I can be the one to get there because I work very hard and I want nothing but to be the best.

To be a legend, though, he doesnt believe hell have to set another record in London. Hell merely have to win.

I dont think Im a legend now, he said. A lot of people have done it one time. If I can double, few people in the world can say theyre double Olympic gold medallists. I want to be one of those few people.

Carl Lewis is the only male runner to repeat in the 100 at the Olympics.
Bolt is also looking beyond 2012, when he would consider competing in the long jump for a change of pace. Earlier this year, he said he might have to do something else because people are probably tired of seeing me.

PARIS, France (AFP) -- Girls who are thin at the age of seven are at higher risk of breast cancer after menopause than chubbier counterparts and more vulnerable to a worse type of tumour, according to a Swedish study published on Wednesday.

The surprising conclusion is made by Karolinska Institutet researchers who looked at data from 2,818 Swedish breast cancer patients and 3,111 healthy counterparts.

"Large body type at age seven years was associated with a decreased risk of post-menopausal breast cancer," said lead researcher Jingmei Li.

"It appears counterintuitive that a large body size during childhood can reduce breast cancer risk, because a large birth weight and a high adult BMI have been shown to elevate breast cancer," Li added.

"There remain unanswered questions on mechanisms driving this protective effect," he said.

BMI means body mass index, a measure of fat.

A girl's BMI at the age of seven also drove the risk of so-called oestrogen receptive negative tumours, where the outcome is often less favourable than other cancer types, said the study.

The paper is published online in an open-access, peer-reviewed journal, Breast Cancer Research.

STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AFP) World 100-metres record-holder Usain Bolt will take on US sprint rivals Tyson Gay and fellow Jamacian Asafa Powell in the IAAF Diamond League meet here on August 6, organisers confirmed yesterday.

The race will mark the first time that historys three fastest men will compete together since the 100-metres final at last years World Championships in Berlin where Bolt set the world record, clocking 9.58, with Gay second in 9.71, then a US record, with Powell, the former world record-holder, taking bronze.

It is a great pleasure to confirm and host this exciting race, said meeting director Rajne Soderberg.

It will strengthen the meetings positioning within the world of sports.

The race will also be the first of just two meetings between The Big Three this year, with the second clash set for the Diamond League final in Brussels on August 27.

The Stockholm meet is the 11th of the 14-leg IAAF Diamond League series.

Powell and Gay had previously been confirmed for the event, while DN Galan organisers had worked to secure the financing for Bolts participation.

A United States geologist yesterday said a new active fault has been found in Kingston that poses a potential hazard, which can generate a major earthquake.

A fault is a crack or break in the earth's surface. Earthquakes occur on faults.

Dr Katherine Ellins, programme manager at the University of Austin in Texas, who was a doing research on the fault lines in the island, said that the new fault, which was found in Kingston Harbour, may be an extension of the Caymanas system and connects with the Plantain Garden fault system.

We think that this is an active fault but to confirm we need to take sediments core from around and in the Harbour, she said.

However, Dr Kelly said that Kingston is in a vulnerable area, hence the need for the Jamaican authorities to put measures in place to address an earthquake management programme.

Dr Kelly was speaking at a breakfast forum hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce of Jamaica at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston. The aim of the forum was to bring stakeholders together to discuss Jamaica's earthquake risk and the country's capacity to cope with a major earthquake.

There is something about Vybz Kartel. Having been detained by local police for two weeks, and uncertainty surrounded whether or not he would appear on this year's festival, he became the most anticipated act on the line-up. Throughout the night it was clear that the majority of the thousands who packed the Catherine Hall venue were there for the Teacha. This became more apparent when at 5:00 am there was still a full park waiting for the arrival and performance of the artiste. So when he appeared on stage wearing an orange jumpsuit and handcuffed, it was clear he was in a no-nonsense mood.

From the opening note he took charge of the Sumfest stage delivering the hits his fans had stood for hours in muddy conditions waiting for. In rapid succession he gave it to the eager fans, his arsenal included Boring Wine, Love Dem, Nuh Let Go, Virginty, Go-go Club, Bicycle, and Wah Yuh Know Bout Me.

Kartel was, of course, accompanied on stage by the members of the Gaza Empire and his high energy, infectious act was punctuated with tracks from Jahvinci, Shawn Storm and Popcaan, the latter with whom Kartel doubled for the popular Clarks.

There was no stopping the man born Adidja Palmer, who was able to claim the night by virture of his solid performance and the reaction and involvement of his loyal fans who only exited the park after he exited the stage.

Though he was the closing act, Kartel only capped what was a night of strong performances.

Among the night's other big winners were conscious crusader and one of the artistes dubbed a Next Generation act by telecoms giant, Digicel, I-Octane and young act, Khago. Once I-Octane stepped onto the stage at 2:45 am it was clear this was not going to be an ordinary performance by the man from Clarendon. He not only literally caught the venue on fire, as fans lit a huge bonfire in the middle of the muddy green, but was able to lift the spirit of the thousands inside Catherine Hall with his brand of music. This level of excitement was only matched by the huge roars of approval which rang out for Sumfest newcomer Khago. The man who is best known for his hit, Caan Cool, was able to woo his audience with a solid set which brought the Dancehall Night audience to its feet.

In general the artistes on the Dancehall Night line-up seemed to have come to the event with the intention to give their audiencess that little bit extra. Dancehall's bad gyal Ce'Cile brought on Budget! Twitter, Spectacular! Tanto Blacks, to enhance her set. D'Angel who worked a greatly improved set playfully incorporated Shady Squad dancers into her routine. Ding Dong was not leaving the members of his Ravers Clavers family behind. Stacious had the the audience in stitches as she had a 'little person' act out a scene from her hit Come into my Room, much to the delight of Catherine Hall. Hard-hitting deejay Aidonia also showed a softer side when he incorporated singer Aisha Davis for the sultry My Heart is Yours. Energetic Ele (Elephant Man) called on selector-turned deejay and the king of mix-up, Tony Matterhorn to add variety to his set.

However, the most entertaining addition to a set must go to female deejay Spice. She opened her act with a demonstration scene and quickly drew on the riddim for the Gyptian hit, Hold Yuh, taking it to Prime Minister Bruce Golding. Bruce mi waan fi as yuh if the Tivoli duppy dem and haunt yuh, Dis a the hardest time me eva face inna my life... But she did promise an exciting finale and her demand that someone help her get out of her high-high boots was definitely an indication of what was to come.

Once Ruff Kutt band struck up the riddim for her popular slim girl, fluffy girl combinatiion with Pamputtae it was clear, the fireworks was about to begin.

Clad in full black Pamputtae romped onto the stage declaring "Look how mi tick!," as she slapped her more that ample thighs. Spice then called for the "slimmas dem" and two svelte dancers appeared. Not to be outdone, Pamputtae summoned the "fluffy gal dem" and two fit fluffies ran onto the stage. What was to follow was nearly 10 minutes to feminine rivalry which included the night's MC, Miss Kitty who is known for defending the women with added pounds. In the ensuing battle the women danced, gyrated, 'flick' and did splits. Not even the huge speaker boxes and lighting towers were spared and both fluffies and slim girls battled out to the very end.

The night was also punctuated with tributes and honours. The first came with VoiceMail's performance. This popular act which is now performing as a duo following the recent shooting death of member O'Neil Edwards, 'livicated' their performance to him, opening with I Will Praise His Name, whch featured members of the KingstonCollege choir. It is clear that O'Neil's presence as the hype man in the group will be missed, but this will only allow for Kevin and Craig to step up their act.

This year, Summerfest Productions, organisers of the festival, chose to honour deejay Bounty Killer for his contribution to Sumfest and music in general. So the Warlord was feeling honourable and delivered a strong message, attacking some of society's ills.

His set dragged in parts but this did not phase the deejay who declared that he got his first forward in 1993, and was therefore not looking for any on Thursday night, especially as he was being honoured.

Kudos should go to other acts such as Mavado, Agent Sasco, Konshens, Kiprich, Chino and Tifa, who all greatly enhanced the dancehall night experience with their performance.

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A hacker has discovered a way to force ATMs to disgorge their cash by hijacking the computers inside them.

The attacks demonstrated Wednesday targeted standalone ATMs. But they could potentially be used against the ATMs operated by mainstream banks.

Criminals have long known that ATMs aren't tamperproof.

There are many types of attacks in use today, ranging from sophisticated to foolhardy: installing fake card readers to steal card numbers, hiding tiny surveillance cameras to capture PIN codes, covering the dispensing slot to intercept money and even hauling the ATMs away with trucks in hopes of cracking them open later.

Computer hacker Barnaby Jack spent two years tinkering in his Silicon Valley apartment with ATMs he bought online. These were standalone machines, the type seen in front of convenience stores, rather than the ones in bank branches.

His goal was to find ways to take control of ATMs by exploiting weaknesses in the computers that run the machines.

He showed off his results here at the Black Hat conference, an annual gathering devoted to exposing the latest computer-security vulnerabilities.

His attacks have wide implications because they affect multiple types of ATMs and exploit weaknesses in software and security measures that are used throughout the industry.

His talk was one of the conference's most widely anticipated, as it had been pulled a year ago over concerns that fixes for the ATMs wouldn't be in place in time. He used the extra year to craft more dangerous attacks.

Jack, who works as director of security research for Seattle-based IOActive Inc., showed in a theatrical demonstration two ways he can get ATMs to spit out money:

-- Jack found that the physical keys that came with his machines were the same for all ATMs of that type made by that manufacturer. He figured this out by ordering three ATMs from different manufacturers for a few thousand dollars each. Then he compared the keys he got to pictures of other keys, found on the Internet.

He used his key to unlock a compartment in the ATM that had standard USB slots. He then inserted a program he had written into one of them, commanding the ATM to dump its vaults.

-- Jack also hacked into ATMs by exploiting weaknesses in the way ATM makers communicate with the machines over the Internet. Jack said the problem is that outsiders are permitted to bypass the need for a password. He didn't go into much more detail because he said the goal of his talk "isn't to teach everybody how to hack ATMs. It's to raise the issue and have ATM manufacturers be proactive about implementing fixes."

The remote style of attack is more dangerous because an attacker doesn't need to open up the ATMs.

It allows an attacker to gain full control of the ATMs. Besides ordering it to spit out money, attackers can silently harvest account data from anyone who uses the machines. It also affects more than just the standalone ATMs vulnerable to the physical attack; the method could potentially be used against the kinds of ATMs used by mainstream banks.

Jack said he didn't think he'd be able to break the ATMs when he first started probing them.

"My reaction was, 'this is the game-over vulnerability right here,'" he said of the remote hack. "Every ATM I've looked at, I've been able to find a flaw in. It's a scary thing."

Kurt Baumgartner, a senior security researcher with antivirus software maker Kaspersky Lab, called the demonstration a "thrill" to watch and said it is important to improving the security of machines that can each hold tens of thousands of dollars in cash. However, he said he doesn't think it will result in widespread attacks because banks don't use the standalone systems and Jack didn't release his attack code.

Jack wouldn't identify the ATM makers. He put stickers over the ATM makers' names on the two machines used in his demonstration. But the audience, which burst into applause when he made the machines spit out money, could see from the screen prompts on the ATM that one of the machines was made by Tranax Technologies Inc., based in Hayward, Calif. Tranax did not immediately respond to e-mail messages from The Associated Press.

Triton Systems, of Long Beach, Miss., confirmed that one of its ATMs was used in the demonstration. It said Jack alerted the company to the problems and that Triton now has a software update in place that prevents unauthorized software from running on its ATMs.

Bob Douglas, Triton's vice president of engineering, said customers can buy ATMs with unique keys but generally don't, preferring to have a master key for cost and convenience.

"Imagine if you have an estate of several thousand ATMs and you want to access 20 or so of them in one day," he wrote in an e-mail to the AP. "It would be a logistical nightmare to have all the right keys at just the right place at just the right time."

Other ATM manufacturers contacted by the AP also did not immediately respond to messages.

Jack said the manufacturers whose machines he studied are deploying software fixes for both vulnerabilities, but added that the prevalence of remote-management software broadly opens up ATMs to hacker attacks.

Bisexuals living in Jamaica and those of Jamaican heritage living overseas, have taken their cause to the popular social networking site, Facebook.

Designed to create awareness of the persecution they face, the creators of the group, in a detailed description of the purpose of the page, said, "Lots of Jamaican men are gay or bisexual. Lots of Jamaican women are lesbian or bisexual. They're here.They're queer.They're not going away and they're not going to hide anymore! Please, my fellow Caribbean people, gays, lesbians and bisexuals of Jamaican origin are people too. They deserve human rights."

The group which had 106 members up to press time, both men and women, also provides a forum for gays, lesbians and bisexuals to interact with each other and seek companionship.

One member of the group posted, " I'm a nice Jamaican lesbian girl seeking a female partner. Message me if you're interested." While another shared the difficulties faced by Jamaican lesbians. She wrote, "It's hard being a Jamaican lesbian, because they don't condone this in our country. But so what? We are who we are. As long as you love yourself, then that's all that matters."

Another user expressed gratitude to the group's creators for starting the page and said, "Hailing from Saint Andrew. I wish to say big ups to you guys for putting our struggle on the forefront. Being gay and Jamaican is not an anomaly. It is who we are."

The group, which is private for the most part, requires users to officially 'join' and request to be a part. At least one person on the page was seen requesting to be added. She wrote, " add me pplz".

Patrons who turned out for Igloo last Sunday at Sugarman's Beach in Portmore were in for a surprise, after what appeared to be a night destined for lasting fun ended abruptly, due to inclement weather conditions.

THE STAR arrived at the venue at approximately 8 p.m. during the musical stint of Disc jockeys Mark Chin and Alpachino from Coppershot. The vibe was already at a semi climax as Elephant Man's Nuh Linga and Assassin's Dem Guy Deh had the massive crowd roaring in approval.

The musical genre was later switched to Hip Hop, and Dj Khaled's All I do is Win had hands and water bottles waving in the air.

At 9 p.m., the vibe was still intact, as patrons danced up a storm to Ding Dong's Holiday and Dj Liquid's Matie Stan Up.

However, when Richie Ras took over the turntables, he immediately encountered technical difficulties and the session had to be halted to fix the problem. The party would soon return to full swing, Richie Ras delivering an onslaught of 90s dancehall music, from the likes of Buju Banton and Shabba Ranks, much to the delight of the crowd.

The party had been going well, but at around 10 p.m., amidst all the fun and drama, the rains came down without warning, soaking patrons and the sound equipment, causing them to turn off the music.

With no music to keep the vibe going, the once happy patrons scampered to occupy the small area that provided covering for the selectors.

The situation became chaotic for one female patron who yelled: "Wey mi purse?" And a male patron replied: "from night yuh a dance wid man and have the heart fi a come ask mi fi purse, yuh nuh easy!"

Needless to say, while some patrons enjoyed the argument, many decided to head for the exit, by then most persons were soaking wet.
