Boom Boom - Laranzo Dacres
Alliance selector Boom Boom, real name Marlon Wizard, was attacked and robbed early yesterday morning, after successfully closing off another session of the popular Uptown Mondays dance, at Savannah Plaza, Constant Spring Road.
The selector, who had to be rushed to the hospital, said that the assault was carried out by affiliates of singjay Blak Ryno; after a CD that was sent to be played by the Tell It To Dem artiste was not played.
"Mi did a play and mi si a youth come wid a CD an seh Ryno a beg mi fi play a song. Mi seh alright," Boom Boom said.
"Di dance did soon finish and mi did deh pan di sound top, about 20 yards from Harry Hype (mixing partner). Caw a di 'ramest' Uptown Mondays had ever been, from summer start. And at the end mi neva get fi play di song," he said.
He continued:"After everything done an sound pull dung, mi a talk wid Harry, Foota and Sadeke dem, and the same yute come back and seh Ryno seh him waa back di CD."
two girls
He then said that he returned the CD. The man that was accompanied by two girls told Boom Boom that they wanted to take a photo with him. He complied and proceeded outside to have the photos taken by a photographer.
"When mi a walk guh out deh, mi nuh si di photographer. Den di same yute tell mi seh Ryno a shout mi, an him deh ova di parking lot. Suh mi a walk wid dem a guh link Ryno. Mi an Ryno nuh have nutten, and di world know," he said.
Adding, "Mi naa pree seh me an nuh man in a vibes, caw if a suh mi alone naa guh walk. When mi a walk towards di parking lot, a one lick mi feel inna mi head back. From mi get di lick inna mi head back mi nuh memba nutten, mi just memba when dem a put mi inna di car an people a bawl," he said.
The selector said that it was when he regained consciousness, he was made aware of what had transpired.
"Mi si Sadeke dem an some oda people a bawl and when mi ask dem a wah, dem seh a beat di man dem just beat mi up dawg! A when mi feel mi face an look inna di mirror, mi realise seh mi face did swell up," he said.
Boom Boom says he was also robbed of US$630.00 (J$53,915) that was in his pocket. After the incident, he was rushed to the University Hospital of the West Indies where he was then treated and released.
"Mi nah preach nuh violence enuh, mi forgive him, and mi naa guh retaliate," Boom Boom told THE STAR. "Mi lef it to God, caz a God mi praise."
When THE STAR contacted Blak Ryno for a comment on the matter, his phones went straight to voicemail. However, his publicist, who is known as Shadow, spoke on his behalf, as the singjay was said to be in a recording session.
"Ryno said that yes he was at the venue with a couple of friends, but for a short period of time. After which, he left and went straight home," Shadow said.
"He said it was brought to his knowledge that he was involved in an altercation with Boom Boom, which he categorically denied."
"He said that he has been to events prior to this, where Boom Boom played his songs, so he had no reason to do anything of this nature," Shadow stated.
Boom Boom, however, says "mi waa di whole Jamaica know seh mi good an mi alright, mi just a tell Ryno seh mi a pray fi him, caw him need some prayer an him need fi read him Bible ... caw him a likkle yute weh mi check fa an rate. Arsenal Football Club today made its third signing of the summer, as French international defender, Sebastien Squillaci joins the north London club from Sevilla, on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee.
Part of the France 2010 World Cup squad, Squillaci (30) is a tall, strong and vastly experienced central defender who has made 36 appearances in the Champions League, Europe's premier club competition, as well as tallying 21 caps for his country.
Prior to his time in Spain, Squillaci enjoyed a successful spell in France with Lyon by winning back-to-back Ligue 1 titles in 2007 and 2008. The combative defender was also part of AS Monaco's impressive Champions League campaign in 2004, helping the side reach the Final by beating Real Madrid and Chelsea en route.
Sebastien Squillaci said on his arrival at Arsenal: "This is an exciting move for me. Arsène Wenger is a highly respected coach who I am very much looking forward to working with and of course, I know some of the Arsenal players through the national team. Arsenal is recognised as a side that not only plays beautiful football but one that challenges for trophies at the highest level and I am very excited to be joining such a fantastic club."
Arsenal manager, Arsène Wenger added: "Sebastien has many qualities that will add to the strength of our squad. He is quick, hugely experienced with an aggressive edge to his game. His signing will give us some variation at the back as we look to build on last season's campaign and fight for silverware this year."
Squillaci will wear the number 18.
The Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court enjoyed moments of amusement yesterday when two neighbours, a 45-year-old woman and the other, a 50-year-old woman, faced the court in a case and cross case.
The two women, Karen Henry and Sheila Ferguson, seemed unsure at first of what their respective pleas would be for the charge of assault occasioning bodily harm.
Such uncertainty was displayed when the clerk of courts asked both the accused alternatively, to identify the person who had assaulted her, both the co-accused then pointed at each other almost at the same time, which amused the court.
guilty plea
Ferguson then told the court that she wanted to plead guilty to avoid prolonging the matter. Likewise, Henry then immediately told the court that she wanted to enter a guilty plea also, which again amused the court.
Both women told the court that they received scratches to their bodies as a result of the fracas.
Both co-accused were fined $4,000 each or 30 days in prison.
No records were requested in the matter, in that, the convictions are not to be recorded.Jamaica's young sprint star, 20 year-old Yohan Blake, clipped American Justin Gatlin in the men's 100 metres at the Palio della Quercia meet in Rovereto, Italy, yesterday.
Blake clocked 10.06 seconds to finish three-hundredths of a second ahead of the American who was clocking his best time since his recent return from a four-year doping ban.
A second Jamaican, Marvin Anderson, was fourth in 10.48. The race was marred by the disqualification of two runners - Ryan Bailey of the United States and Fabio Cerutti of Italy - for false starts.
Gatlin said he injured himself slightly during the race.
"It was a good practice for me and I bettered my time as well," Gatlin said. "I tweaked my quad just a little bit coming home and had to slow a little bit but all in all it was a good race, going against good competitors."
Gatlin added that he hopes to go under 10 seconds at his next meet in Padua on Friday.
"Every time I run I get faster, I get more comfortable with myself, I get more comfortable with my race, so I still think I pose some kind of a threat in the long (run)," Gatlin said. It was a one-two finish for Jamaica in the men's 100 metres "B" race. Former national junior representative Romeldo Rose who is making a comeback after being dogged by several injuries in recent years, captured the event in 10.46 seconds , getting the better of another former junior representative, Ramone McKenzie, 10.47.
In the women's 100 metres Aleen Bailey of Jamaica was fourth in 11.29 seconds behind winner, Kelly-Ann Baptiste of Trinidad and Tobago, who won in 11.13.
In the men's 400 metres, Jamaica's Allodin Fothergill clocked 46.04 seconds for fifth as the one-lap event was won in 45.77 by Italy's Marco Vistalli.
In the women's 800 metres World champion Caster Semenya of South Africa finished a surprising ninth.
In her fifth race following an 11-month gender dispute, Semenya clocked a dismal 2 minutes, 7.16 seconds.
Elisa Cusma Piccione of Italy, who openly questioned Semenya's gender at last year's worlds in Berlin, won in 2:00.37.
It's Semenya's second consecutive loss after she placed third at the Diamond League meet in Brussels on Friday.
Semenya stood third to last after the first lap and never made a move to the front, giving the impression she was just out for a casual jog.
"Nothing happened. I ran the race, I ran slow. Nothing happened. It's part of the game," Semenya said. "Sometimes you need to go according to your body."
Afterward, Semenya walked over to Cusma Piccione and congratulated the Italian.
"It was a nice gesture," Cusma Piccione said. "I know she hasn't trained much and it's not easy to keep up your form. Maybe she's tired."
Cusma Piccione called Semenya "a man" when she lost to her at worlds.

Residents in sections of Clarendon have, in recent times, been gripped with the fear of being robbed while travelling on mini-buses, THE STAR has learnt.
A number of recent incidents have now left persons from various communities in the parish to consider their options before deciding to use that mode of transportation.
"We are aware of a number of cases in which men have robbed people on these buses and we also are hearing that persons are somewhat afraid to travel on these buses," a detective corporal attached to the Area Three police said when THE STAR contacted the headquarters yesterday. According to the lawman, he was aware of at least three incidents in the last two weeks.
Head of the Clarendon police, Superintendent Dathan Henry could not be reached for comment as several calls to his cellular phone went unanswered.
In one of the latest such incidents, gunmen reportedly robbed passengers and the conductor on a bus which was travelling from May Pen to Frankfield.
The bus is said to have also overturned when the driver jumped from the vehicle after being attacked by one of the robbers.
One passenger who witnessed the ordeal, Mrs Lucky* said being a part of the incident has left her shaken up to say the least.
According to Lucky, a woman came into the bus asking the driver to make a stop in Bucknor, also in the parish, to pick up a girlfriend.
After stopping at the bus stop where the woman's friend was supposed to have been waiting, Lucky said the driver was asked to drive through a lane to pick up the other woman. While a number of passengers objected, Lucky told THE STAR that the woman got off the bus and walked down the lane.
As the driver began to drive off, Lucky said three armed men jumped into the bus and ordered the driver to stop which he did.
cash and other items
Lucky said two of the men then ordered a number of passengers and the conductor off the bus before proceeding to rob them of cash and other items. Things got a little more scary, according to Lucky, when the driver tried to escape the situation not realising that the third robber was still on the bus.
She said the thief attacked the driver and stabbed him in the head. The driver is said to have then jumped from the bus which lost control and overturned.
Lucky said she climbed out of the bus and was greeted by the thief who attacked the driver. The robber took her cellphone she told THE STAR.
The incident was reported to the May Pen police who say investigations are ongoing and it is being theorised that the robbery was planned. Lucky agrees. "The girl came from the same area as the gunmen, the whole thing was false, she was trying to get the driver to go in the lane where they could rob us." she reasoned. Meanwhile, the detective corporal from the Area Three police said the police will be working towards locating the men responsible for these incidents.

Nicki Minaj - Contributed
It seems that a collaboration between deejay Vybz Kartel and American rapper Nicki Minaj is not out of the question for the near future.
Last Saturday, the rapper, who is known for songs such as Your Love and Bedrock, posted on her official social- networking page twitter.com that she wants to work with the controversial deejay. Minaj tweeted, "I need Vybz Kartel for Pink Friday." Pink Friday is the official name of her debut album which is scheduled for release on November 23 on the Young Money-Universal Motown label.
ready to work
When contacted by THE STAR, Kartel was unaware of her desire to work with him but was more than ready to work with the rapper. He said, "I would definitely do it. No charge, just work out something in the Rampin' Shop. Although every female artiste wants to collab with the Teacha, for all I know that could be a fake tweet, a prank tweet. If she really want to do di, tell her me deh pon di Gaza."
unofficial collabo
Minaj has worked with Jamaican artistes before, with her unofficial collaboration with Gyptian on the Billboard chart-topping hit Hold Yuh. The remix was popular on youtube.com and garnered a lot of attention. The rapper was in Jamaica earlier this year with Jamaican singer Sean Kingston to shot the video for their song Letting Go (Dutty Love) in Ocho Rios.
In the meantime, the normally media-friendly Vybz Kartel has been quiet in the weeks since his arrest during the state of emergency that was implemented in Kingston after the siege in Tivoli.
According to Kartel, he has been busy in the studio with a number of releases. He said, "I have singles No Lie and Taptada for DJ Kareem, Conscience Set Yuh FreeMaking A Baby for Notnice. Plus I just finished the Dream video with Popcaan to premiere this Friday on ER and I am now doing a video for Chrome's Dumpa Truck. Popcaan and Sheba are off to Trinidad on Friday, Gaza Slim just wrecked Tobago and I'll be at Club Jamaica this Saturday with the usual suspects."

ZAGREB, Croatia (AP) Tyson Gay is expecting "one of the fastest races" of the year when he comes up against Nesta Carter of Jamaica at a Zagreb meet tomorrow, with both sprinters having set the lowest 100-metre time in 2010.
The American ran 9.78 seconds in London on August 13, and Carter matched that time at the Rieti Grand Prix in Italy on Sunday.
Gay beat world-record holder Usain Bolt earlier this month. He said yesterday that his ultimate aim is to win gold at next year's World Championships in Daegu, South Korea.
Gay says "I'm sure Bolt wants it too. But if I do my absolute best, I could beat him."
An 88-year-old man who was the victim of an hour-long goat attack has died.
Vestal Davis of Colbert, in Madison County, died Saturday at Athens Regional Medical Center, one week after the attack, the Athens Banner-Herald reports.
"He became paralyzed from the injuries, and that just affected the rest of his body system," Coroner Michelle Cleveland told the newspaper. "He just couldn't fight that off and so he just slipped away."

THINK of all the things that can cause the death of a person -- from the simple slip and fall, to accidents, various forms of illnesses and murder. Add them, and they would still be dwarfed by the number of Jamaicans who die annually from complications related to cardiovascular illnesses, doctors from the Heart Institute of the Caribbean (HIC) told the weekly Observer Monday Exchange yesterday.
According to the doctors, cardiovascular disease (CVD) kills 20 Jamaicans every day. That works out to 7,300 people annually.
A staggering 50 per cent of hospital deaths are cardiovascular-related, added Dr Dainia Baugh, president of the HIC.
"If you stack up every cause of death that's murder, to 'I tripped and fell and hit my head', you add HIV, add driving too fast and running off the road, you add 'I was pregnant and had a complication', pneumonia... If you add pretty much every cause of death that we know of, you will never reach the number of people that die from just cardiovascular diseases," said Dr Baugh.
In light of this fact, Dr Baugh is urging Jamaicans to get tested at an early age so they can be treated for any problem before it is too late. "You can be a day old and have problems, and you can be 105 and have problems," said Dr Baugh, noting that heart-related illnesses can hit at any stage of life.
Dr Baugh said that there are now more cases of people suffering from cardiovascular-related illnesses, such as blockages, in the 50s and 60s age group. She said also that there are persons in their 30s experiencing problems of the heart not relaxing after a beat as it should.
According to Dr Baugh, they are now seeing more cases of men getting heart attacks before they get to age 55 years, which had been a rear occurrence in the past. This, she said, is a deviation from international standards.
Dr Baugh said the cases being seen now should be occurring in people in their 70s, noting that the goal was to revert to that stage through public education campaigns and early screening.
Given the gravity of the situation, Dr Baugh, as well as Dr Edwin Tulloch-Reid, expressed disappointment that treatment for heart-related illnesses is the least funded in Jamaica.
The conditions that qualify as heart disease include coronary heart disease, heart attack, congestive heart failure and congenital heart disease. Risk factors for heart disease, according to information provided by the HIC Foundation, are smoking, high *la*hd pressure, high *la*hd cholesterol, obesity, physical inactivity and diabetes, which is also a prevalent illness among Jamaicans.
In addition to exercise, a healthy diet including a lower salt and fat intake -- is key to warding off heart-related complications. It is recommended that we consume more fish, vegetables, fruits, whole grain and legumes. If there is a need for added fats, it is recommended that we use those high in monounsaturated fats for example olive and peanut oils.
Dr Baugh said also that there is a need to cut the obesity rate among children as 20 per cent of overweight kids in Jamaica are diabetic, which increases their predisposition to heart diseases.
Seventy-one per cent of all diabetics die from cardiovascular disease, according to Dr Baugh. Statistics show that one of five Jamaicans is diabetic, according to Dr Baugh, who said that the number is set to triple in another five years and rise again by 2025.
Klaas Jan Huntelaar has become the first big-name player to make a deadline-day move, joining Schalke for £13million euros from AC Milan.
The Holland international, 27, joins former Real Madrid team-mate Raul, who signed earlier this summer, at the Gelsenkirchen.
Schalke boss Felix Magath told Bild newspaper: "Negotiations were tougher than expected. I am happy to have Klaas Jan. He will help us."
Huntelaar has failed to fully establish himself at first Real and then Milan since leaving Ajax in January 2009, scoring 15 goals in 50 appearances in that time.
But he was prolific during his time in Amsterdam, finding the net 80 times in 104 games after joining from Eerstedivisie side AGOVV Apeldoorn.
"Klaas Jan wants to continue his career at Schalke. Schalke and Milan have agreed on a transfer fee of about 13 million," read an article on his personal website.
"It is true I never wanted to leave Milan but that changed when Zlatan Ibrahimovic came from Barcelona," he said.
Schalke have moved to liven up their side after losing their opening two Bundesliga games of the season.
The police yesterday arrested eight persons as they began their crackdown on windshield washers accused of robbing and abusing motorists at major intersections in the Corporate Area.
Head of the Police Traffic Division, Superintendent Radcliffe Lewis, who vowed to be relentless in this crackdown, said the drive forms part of his traffic management re-organisation project for the Corporate Area.
In addition to holding up traffic, Lewis said the men throw water or spit on female motorists and use nails and knives to scratch the vehicles of motorists who refuse to give them money.
"I want to warn these (windshield) wipers, once they are arrested, they must go and they must not come back," Lewis said yesterday.
"If they are found there (wiping windshields in the streets) 20 times, they will be arrested and charged," he added.
The eight men who were arrested yesterday are to face charges of obstructing traffic, failing to move and keep on moving and obstructing pedestrians under the Town and Community Act.
Superintendent Lewis said each charge carries a fine of $5,000.
Yesterday's operations were carried out at the intersections of Hope, Waterloo and Trafalgar roads, in the vicinity of Devon House, a popular location for these windshield wipers.
Other operations were also conducted at the intersections of Oxford and Old Hope roads, Oxford and Half-Way Tree roads, and Hagley Park Road and Maxfield Avenue.
Lewis disclosed that the crackdown will be intensified today, with increased police deployment to other popular spots.ZJ Liquid returns on air this week after more than a month-long suspension.
According to a source, Liquid returns to ZIP FM this week after he was suspended in July for playing an expletive on air.
ZJ Liquid, whose real name is Michael Brissett, played an unedited version of Andrew and Wada *la*hd's Beggy Beggy on his 'Fresh 2 Death' segment. The ZJ immediately covered up the blunder by switching to another song, but not before it was noticed by a number of listeners.
Playing an expletive on air is in direct violation of the Broadcasting Commission's rules and regulations. This was the ZJ's second offence since the start of the year. In February, Liquid was suspended indefinitely for playing an unedited version of Aidonia's Love It. The ZJ returned to air a month later. A Facebook group, 'Put Zj Liquid back on air' was formed shortly after. The page currently has over 8,000 fans.
On the page, a number of persons were awaiting confirmation as to when and if the Zip Jock would be back on air. One person commented, "Jah know me radio all a ketch dust, it nuh tun on back from Liquid stop play pon Zip!" Another person said, "Zip nuh good again without Liquid ... what happen to 'Fresh to Death Wednesday'... how we ago hear di fresh tunes, bossy, bus di youth! We need fi hear Liquid."
Attempts to reach both ZJ Liquid and ZIP FM's station manager D'Adra Williams, were unsuccessful.Jamaica's sprint sensation Usain Bolt kicked off his book tour in London yesterday with a stop on The One Show, which has an average viewing of 4.5 million people.
Bolt's biography, Usain Bolt My Story 9.58, features the story of eight days ... three gold medals ... three world records ... one amazing reputation firmly established. While in London, Bolt will visit all radio and TV sections of the BBC on the top programmes, and will also pay a visit to the Olympic Stadium where the London 2012 Summer Olympics will be held.
Bolt co-authored the book with British journalist Shaun Custis. As part of his tour, he will edit a few columns at the headquarters of the The Sun newspaper.
Although largely a media tour, Bolt will engage the public in a two-hour signing at the Waterstone's Piccadilly facility, on Thursday.
The book is over 280 pages and is complete with photographs, some of which have never been published before. Published by Harper Collins, UK, the book will be distributed by Ian Randle Publishers in the Caribbean. It will sell for £20, or approximately J$2,600.
The book is about a skinny kid from the parish of Trelawny, where they harvest the best yams in the world. It is about growing up playing cricket and football in the warm Jamaican sun, then discovering that he could run fast, very fast. It is about family, friends and the laid-back Jamaican culture; Auntie Lillian's pork and dumplings and Dad's grocery store in the sleepy village of Sherwood Content.
The book explores what makes him tick, where he gets his motivation and where he takes his inspiration. It is about the highs and the lows, the dedication and sacrifices required to get to the top. It is about fast food, partying, dancehall music, fast cars and that 'lightning bolt' pose. It is about radiating sport's biggest smile.
The names of the 10 DJs who will be featured on the exciting Heineken Green Synergy Reality TV show were unveiled when the second episode aired on TVJ last Friday.
The 10 lucky DJs are Kezah Blackwood aka DJ Banka from Clarendon, last year's semi finalist, the lone female Nazria Davis aka DJ Naz from St Andrew, last year's quarter-finalist Andre Flowers aka Ricky Eminence, Jerry Oswald aka DJ Jerry from St Andrew, Claude Richardson aka DJ Don Hype from Mandeville, Oswald Soutar aka DJ Blu from Montego Bay, Barri Taffe aka DJ 47 from Mandeville, Dwayne Thompson aka DJ Kuumba from St Catherine, Christian Watt aka DJ Wattie from St Andrew and Alfred Anderson aka DJ Blosh from Mandeville.
Host Tami Chynn introduced the DJs at a reception party held at Fiction Lounge in Kingston. Decked out in their personalised Heineken polo shirts, the DJs got a chance to 'hold a vibe' with each other and with the sponsors of the show.
They were sprung a surprise in the middle of their lyme when Tami told them that they would each play a 6-minute introductory set and that they had 15 minutes to prepare.
Of note, Ricky Eminence was at his 'home away from home' as he is the resident DJ at the club.
DJ 47 went first and started well but after experiencing some technical difficulties, walked off in the middle of his set. Don Hype followed and played pretty much an entertaining set. Banka's set was just hilarious, displaying some real funny dance moves as he played.
Blosh played an average set. DJ Blu unleashed a real party vibe, playing popular disco and R&B music, which he is accustomed to playing as a resident DJ at Montego Bay's Margaritaville.
DJ Jerry did well, so too Ricky Eminence, DJ Naz and Wattie. In general though, most of the DJs did nothing really 'special' and pretty much played average sets.
They were introduced to the local judges, Collin Hinds of FAME FM and entertainment personality/promoter, Quizz.
Collin Hinds described the sets as boring and told the DJs that some of them deserved to go. He pointed to the fact that some of them didn't use headphones and cheated as they were following and matching the waves on their computers.
They were sprung another surprise when it was revealed that another DJ was going to be put into the mix -- Narity, a popular DJ on the Kingston party circuit.
The DJs were then told that they would be given a second chance. They will each get an opportunity to play a 3-minute set and try to redeem themselves.
In the third episode on TVJ this Friday at 9:30 pm, viewers will get a chance to see how the DJs fared in their upcoming challenges.
DANCEHALL deejay, Wasp, is happy with the path his career is currently taking. With his management structure falling into place and a growing repertoire of conscious tunes, the artiste is confident of success.
"When you do a conscious song in the dancehall it is so different from doing a regular song. The life span is longer and it has a wider appeal," the artiste declared.
Wasp used the example of his single Unfair Officer, which was a hit for him in 2009 and which is still getting its fair share of props almost one year later. He also mentioned that singer I-Octane, the fast-rising standard bearer of culture, owes his growing success to conscious lyrics, "not the three-day-old dancehall hype."
"And the thing is that the elders like it and the kids are also singing it," he said of his no-holds-barred hit Unfair Officer, adding that the impact was the same with his previous single, Cry Fi Di Ghetto Youths.
"A lady who is almost 90 told me that she liked the song," he said, still sounding amazed.
Now that those songs have been tested and proven, the deejay is focused on the Daseca-produced single Nutten Nah Gwaan. Wasp goes straight to the heart of the matter with this song, a combination with Raine Seville. This single touches a nerve and he hopes it will edge him closer to his ultimate goal staking his claim on a portion of the dancehall pie.
"I wrote it on the way going to Old Harbour one day when I saw the people selling on the street and realised that nutten really nah gwaan. Raine and I met up at Carib and chatted a bit and she said she like the song Cry Fi Di Ghetto Youths and suggested that we do a song together. The next day she called and I was only too happy to go in the studio, so I did a demo and took it to Daseca and the rest is history," he laughed.
It was his first time working with the Daseca crew and Wasp has nothing but praises for their professionalism.
"Daseca dem professional and can bring my ideas to life. Working with Daseca you can't be off key because they are musicians all three of them play the keyboard. It's a good learning experience, if you as the artiste is willing to learn," he declared.
The video, which was directed by Danielle Dyer, had its premiere a few weeks ago.
What do you miss when you are not in Kingston?
In Jamaica, Kingston is the melting pot of what's musically hot. Crazy vibes this place got. It's not all about evading gunshot. The inspiration it gives is what I miss the most... that and the fact that compared to other parishes, there's less ghost. If I were mayor for a day, I'd give cellphones away to potential wives and bar all other incoming or outgoing numbers, except mine, until my love they all find... I'm sure they'd be fine. Also, I would cook them porridge.... cause I think it would be cool for them to say to their friends "hey, Mayor Zim***bo cooked me porridge." I would also arrest all 'lepricons' and outlaw skin bleaching 'cause it's wrong teaching... Heh!

"Not having access to this cluster of acts to factor into our line-up has adversely impacted us this year. At the very least, this situation is progressively becoming dire and needs to be strategically and properly addressed, via fair and prompt intervention, so that fair and prompt resolution can be achieved post haste," Grant said.
For G City Entertainment promoter Casey Rankine, although many of the major acts are out of commission in the United States market, it is "business as usual".
"It has not greatly affected my plans. The major challenge is the economy -- weak audience turnout and poor ticket sales," Rankine said.
In fact, according to him, the situation has now created an opportunity for other good artistes.
"There are other artistes who have done work for years, or upcoming talents, and this gives them the opportunity to be highlighted, so we are looking forward to working with them," he said.
New York-based publicist Anthony Turner says the unavailability of the aforementioned artistes is not the greatest challenge for promoters in the US right now.
"Even if those artistes were available, it would not be a given that they could have brought in a full house or that the event would have been a guaranteed success," he said.
Like, Rankine, Turner said one of the biggest challenge facing promoters now is the economic recession.
"There are other factors to take into consideration too, such as finding affordable venues and receiving quality sponsorships," Turner shared, adding that unlike events in Jamaica, US sponsors do not give a lot of cash support, so promoters rely heavily on gate receipts.
But while some US promoters are experiencing challenges as it relates to the staging of reggae events, for Eddy Edwards of Riddim Marketing, it's all about having the right packaging. Edwards, who has hosted plays, church festivals and other family-friendly events, says he walked away from "the whole dancehall mix up".
"I lean to cultural and clean lyrics artistes, so as a result, I am not affected by what's going on right now. If you notice, somehow, those are the ones not in trouble," the promoter said.
He admits that the numbers have been down because of the recession, but says because of the nature of his events he has enjoyed enough support to make them viable that plus the fact that the artistes with whom he has been working are "very reasonable".
However, Irie Jamboree's Grant is not swayed by the argument for cultural productions.
"Our very pervasive culture is so much a part of generations "X" and "Y"'s pop culture, that these kids, primarily of Jamaican and a wider Caribbean descent, will just not allow that to happen," Grant said.
He admits that growth may be stymied for several reasons, the main culprit being the lyrical content of some of the songs. But, he says recent steps by the Broadcasting Commission has helped to address, in a very profound way, guidelines that give "the stamp of approval to songs" which ultimately get played on the airwaves in Jamaica.
Grant believes that this move has helped to shape, and usher in a revolution of greater creativity in writing and consequently, many of the dancehall acts and music producers have made notable adjustments to their art.
"On a personal level, I am particularly happy for this advent, as the songs that get sent to us on a daily basis are better songs, if only by "air play" standards, which ultimately bodes well for the longevity and sustainability of the industry at large," he said.
According to G-City's Rankine, the solution going forward is for dancehall acts to "always keep it professional in terms of management, performance, public appearances, by keeping their artiste fees at a fair market value, and adjusting their attitude towards promoters, without (whom) they would have no shows, remembering at all times that it's a business."
OTTAWA, Canada (AFP) Smoking cannabis can relieve chronic neuropathic pain and help sufferers sleep, researchers said in a study published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal yesterday.
Smoking pot also improved their mood, said the researchers led by Mark Ware at McGill University in Montreal.
Twenty-one participants in the study were asked to inhale marijuana smoke three times daily for five days.
Each suffered from post-traumatic or postsurgical neuropathic pain, caused by nerves that do not heal, for which there are few treatment options.
"A single inhalation of 25 mg of 9.4 per cent tetrahydrocannabinol herbal cannabis three times daily for five days reduced the intensity of pain, improved sleep and was well tolerated," the study concluded.
Less potent cannabis yielded "intermediate but nonsignificant degrees of relief," it added. "We found no differences in mood or quality of life" in those cases.
The most common adverse effects of the drug found to be negligible were headaches, dry eyes, a burning sensation in areas of neuropathic pain, dizziness, numbness and coughing.
DANCEHALL producer Donovan Don Corleon Bennett last week launched an iTunes application to more effectively market his music on mobile devices.
Downloaders of the free app will be updated on news, music and shows from Corleon direct to their iPhones, iPads and iPods. The move signals that Jamaican producers have began to embrace mobile music marketing, as iTunes is the largest Internet music store controlling some 70 per cent of legal music purchases.
It helps with the visibility of Jamaican music in at least a most basic sense. Don Corleon Records is, hopefully, the first of many Reggae labels refusing to be left behind in the technology revolution, stated Bookman Ink, publicist for Don Corleon Records, in a written response to a Sunday Observer query. Every Don Corleon Records song in the iTunes database can be found through the new application, which itself is free to download. There are a lot of extra goodies for users to become a part of Corleons world. His biography, photos, YouTube videos, Twitter account and blog are all included in the package.
The Corleon Records application was released August 20 and created utilising MobBase, a website that customises iPhone applications. It takes up to six weeks to get approval for such an application on iTunes but the benefits can include increased sales. MobBase applications are free to set up but costs start once the application is launched. For example, 10,000 installs will cost about US$65 per month, stated MobBase online adding that there is also an initial fee of US$20 to launch the application.
Corleon has produced various Billboard-charting albums including Sizzlas Rise To The Occasion, Sean Pauls The Trinity, Rihannas A Girl Like Me and Gentlemans Confidence. His musical career took off in 2000 with the launch of the Vendetta Sound System alongside cousin, Protojé. He would soon make his name in music production, debuting with the Mad Ants Riddim in 2002. His next major project is Protojés album, The Seven Year Itch.
SUGAR Minott may be gone, but as far as his son Lincoln Jr is concerned, his legacy will be living on forever.
"My dad's dream was for his children to carry on the musical legacy... and that's what we will be doing," he told the Observer. The siblings are now in the studio recording some of their dad's tunes. Lincoln says it will be a tribute recording in honour of their father.
While Sugar Minott was known for roots rock Reggae and his marijuana-loving songs, Lincoln is definite about the kind of songs he wants to do.
"It will be straight reality and message music," said the singer who gave his life to Christ in 1995. A member of the Kencot Seventh-day Adventist Church, he is determined to make a difference on the music scene with his inspirational songs.
"My father was baptised a long time ago and somewhere along the line he let go," Lincoln shared.
He said when he got saved he encouraged his father to "take up the mantle again", but somehow that never materialised.
Still, he has some hope that his dad's soul may have been saved, and according to him his father "prayed a prayer of repentance" on his death bed.
"I leave it up to the Almighty. I don't know if he was saved or not, but it gives me a kind of peace knowing he did that," young Lincoln told the Observer.
Born Lincoln Minott Jr in Kingston, he attended Kingston College his father's alma mater.
It was not surprising when the music bug bit him as a third former in high school. After singing at school concerts and around his friends they encouraged him to "pursue the dream" as they told him he could really sing.
Young Lincoln, soon switched from secular songs to gospel after he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Saviour.
He joined the Kencot Seventh-day Adventist Church where he was a part of the youth choir.
Today, he is still a gospel crusader and is even more determined to make a difference. He can be found performing on the church circuit, singing at weddings and other functions.
Lincoln is still trying to cope with the sudden loss of his dad, but says he wishes more artistes would take better care of themselves.
"I don't know why the culture of Reggae involves marijuana, drinking and the whole drug lifestyle. It has taken a lot of legends from us through heart attack and other drug-related deaths. It's sad that a lot of Reggae icons could still be here if they had just maintained a healthier lifestyle," he said.
Looking ahead, Lincoln says he will be working alongside his brothers and sisters in keeping the musical legacy alive, but he also has another dream of his dad to fulfil and that is to build a shelter to assist the poor. "That's the vision my dad had he lived for the poor."

MONTEGO BAY, St James Former world's fastest man Asafa Powell is confident Jamaica will continue to produce world-class sprinters even after he has hung up his spikes.
Powell, who broke the world record three times on his way to lowering his personal best to 9.72 seconds in 2008, was full of praise for two of the young rising stars on the horizon inaugural Youth Olympic Games 100m champions Odean Skeen and repeat IAAF World Junior Championships 100m champion Dexter Lee.
"It just shows Jamaica has all this potential to give to the world," he told the Observer during a stop-over at the Sangster International Airport last Friday as he accompanied his girlfriend Yendi Phillipps on her way back from the Miis Universe competition in Las Vegas.
Powell added that for the youngsters to achieve their full potential, they need all the support they can get to ensure they develop at the rate they should.
While his own retirement is nowhere on the horizon, Powell said he felt secure that when it was time for him and double world record-holder Usain Bolt to step aside, Jamaica's place at the top of the world rankings would still be intact.
Skeen became the first winner of the Youth Olympics 100 last week when he ran a personal best 10.42 seconds to take the title in Singapore.
Earlier last month, Lee created history when he became the first man to win consecutive IAAF World Junior titles when he clocked 10.21 seconds in Moncton, Canada.
Lee, who was the first Jamaican man to win a global 100m title when he won the World Youth title in Ostrava, Czech Republic in 2007, had also won the 2008 WJC title in Poland.
A back injury had forced Powell to end his 2010 season early as doctors has advised him to cease competing for six weeks due to inflammation in his lower back.
Powell had a season best 9.82 seconds, the same as Bolt.

The season is set to be launched on Wednesday at the Terra Nova Hotel in Kingston, starting at 10:00 am.

Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of midfielder Sami Khedira from Stuttgart.
Khedira has a agreed a five-year deal and joins for an undisclosed fee.
"Real Madrid C. F. and VfB Stuttgart have agreed to the transfer of Sami Khedira, who will sign a 5-year contract with Real Madrid," the club said in a statement.
The 23-year-old Germany international had spent his entire career with the Swabians, coming through the youth ranks from the age of eight to make his first-team debut in October 2006, the season in which Stuttgart last won the Bundesliga.
Khedira became a regular in Armin Veh's team that season and penned his first professional contract just after the winter break, a deal he extended in 2008 until 2011.
"Obviously you don't gladly let such a leading player and figure like Sami Khedira leave, but on the other hand, we could understand Sami's desire to continue his career with Real," explained Stuttgart's director of sport Fredi Bobic.
"We wish him lots of success with his new challenge in Madrid."
Khedira captained the Germany under-21 side to glory at the European Championships in 2009 and made his senior international debut last September.
Less than a year later, he was an ever-present for Germany at the World Cup, scoring his first international goal in the third-place play-off against Uruguay earlier this month.
That goal and his performances in South Africa convinced Real coach Jose Mourinho to make him one of his top summer targets and Khedira will take the next step in his career in the Primera Division next season.

The Reds moved swiftly for the 27-year-old Porto midfielder after losing Javier Mascherano to Barcelona.
But Meireles insisted he is not a Mascherano clone after signing a four-year contract.
He said: "Roy Hodgson was key to me coming here because he worked so hard to sign me.
"I am Meireles and not Mascherano and that will be clear to the fans.
"I hope one day the Liverpool fans will remember me for being successful."
Meireles has won four titles with Porto and been capped 38 times by Portugal, playing in all four of his country's games at this summer's World Cup.
THE late Bob Marley has been listed as a top-five global icon in a CNN International poll released yesterday, affirming the popularity of the late Reggae star.
The US-based news agency stated that the Jamaican-born musician's status was so large that he embodied a musical form and religion.
"No performer personified Reggae and Rastarianism more than Bob Marley, a musical inspiration for millions. Responsible for bringing together warring factions in Jamaica, its small wonder he was honoured with a state funeral," stated CNN in a poll conducted by Icon, its new arts and culture programme. Each month, Icon selects a list of arts and culture icons from a different field.
US pop singer Michael Jackson topped the list with votes nearing 100,000 according to CNN. He was followed by the UK group The Beatles, Chinese pop star Leslie Cheung, Elvis Presley of the US and Marley. Apart from Jackson, the votes for each artiste were not revealed. The poll which was open for a month selected 20 global artistes from which voters could choose. The field included Bob Dylan, Gilberto Gill, Juanas, Khaled, Miriam Makeba, Youssou N'Dour, Ash Bhosle, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, The Rolling Stones, Oum Kalsoum, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Madonna, Celia Cruz, and Teresa Teng.
Currently, Marley tops the iTunes reggae albums chart in 18 of the 22 listed country markets indicating that 30 years after his passing his relevance remains. Additionally, the Marley machinery will shortly release a 30th anniversary of his final concert entitled Live Forever. This definitive Marley album, special double CD in eco-friendly packaging is a limited regional release which becomes available through Tuff Gong Distribution on September 23.
