David Rowe says the setback in Buju Banton's ongoing drug battle is a bad development. he thinks it is probable that the DJ may get 10 years to a maximum of life in prison if he doesn't enter a plea deal with the United States govt. He will go before the courts September 20. Buju Banton has been behind bars since December 10 of last year, and has been charged with conspiracy with intent to distribute five kilos or more of cocaine and possession of firearm. Bujus' new album will hit the stores on September 13.

This was according to irie fm...idk if they meant to say David Markus his attorney or David Rowe, who really is in no position to giv legal advice seeing that wud be the worst advice ever n its none of his bizniz......

Dudus had Tavares n Buju has David,so much money n no gud attorneys to represent them. I exhausted Tavares services for years n he was great cuz he new who to pay n had many judges in his pocket. However if he really had to defend u he wud be terrible. David Markus is a money grabber attorney who never had Bujus' interest in mind. I said it from jump,if Buju wanted to win this case he has to FIRE David. A FIRED DAVID MARKUS = A FREE BUJU.

Usain Bolt is plotting a career as a professional footballer once he has fulfilled his ambitions in athletics.

The 24-year-old Jamaican is hoping to clock 9.4secs in the 100m after setting the world record of 9.58secs in Berlin last year.

Once he has achieved what he views as an unassailable time, he will then turn his attention to football.

"I have four more good years in me if I train hard," he told BBC Radio 5 live's Sportsweek programme.

"When I finish I'd like to play football for two years. I always watch those guys and I think I could be a professional footballer.

"I'll try that. Maybe I could get into a good side or even an average side.

"I'm definitely a good player - a defensive or attacking midfielder. Somewhere around there.

"First I'm hoping I get to be the one to get to 9.4 seconds because that's where I think the record will probably never be beaten."

Bolt believes athletics is winning the battle against drug cheats and gains greater credibility with the passing of time.

"For me it's all about time. If someone stops cheating then over time people will start to trust that person again," he said.

"It's like a relationship - if you cheat on someone they will trust you again over a period of time.

"In track and field they're doing a really good job of catching the cheats so it's hard to cheat.

"The sport is getting there. We have been through a couple of years where there has been a little scandal but nothing major.

"It will get cleaner and will be back to a sport with no problem. We need nothing but time."

Rumours of a rift have been circulating since Friday, after a broadcast message was sent via Blackberry messenger that was allegedly sent by Kartel and directed at the Zip Jock. We are not about to try to deny that Ragashanti Live, the popular talk show that Dr Kingsley 'Ragashanti' Stewart used to host on NewsTalk 93FM, represented a significant, albeit unenviable, aspect of our culture.
Yes, sadly, there is in our society, a rather unfortunate streak that has manifested itself in a dangerous potpourri of antisocial behaviour.
Said behaviour is at the root of the increasing crime rate that has all but overwhelmed us in recent years.
The murders, the rapes, the instances of carnal abuse, the teenage pregnancies... most if not all have their genesis in what Dr Stewart dubbed 'mix up'.
Why anyone would want to glorify and wallow in this particular phenomenon in the name of culture or anything else is beyond us.
However, as Dr Stewart's ratings proved, many people fell in love with the idea of airing their dirty linen day in, day out on the airwaves.
According to the estimate quoted by Dr Stewart in yesterday's edition, the show raked in over $70 million between 2008 and now.
That's nothing to sneeze at within the context of the current global economic crunch. However, it doesn't follow that a radio station, which purports to be representative of the region's premier university, can afford in the name of money, ratings, cultural democracy or anything else to hold its nose above what we deem to be undiluted slackness.
As a doctor of anthropology, Dr Stewart understood, perhaps better than most, why many of us behave the way we do.
He therefore could have used that knowledge on the platform which he was so privileged to have occupied to lift the mass of dullards who patronised his offerings from the social abyss which inspired them to glorify the unseemly.
The tambourines which he beat so vigorously in support of the poor women whose vision was eternally blighted by the belief that their most valuable asset lay between their legs as opposed to their ears, could have been used to celebrate so many other uplifting aspects of our culture.

"I don't hate Usain Bolt deep down inside (laughs)," the IAAF website quoted Gay as saying when asked to respond to what Bolt had told reporters in London earlier in the week.
Bolt, who is in London promoting the release of his book, is reported to have told the BBC that Gay "probably just hates my guts" because he (Bolt) has dominated major championships over the past three seasons.
Bolt hadn't lost an individual race in two years until last month, when Gay beat him in Stockholm in a 100- metre race and said, "Deep down I think he probably just hates my guts".
Gay, however, defined his relationship with Bolt as a mutually respectful one.
"Our relationship is cool. I've known him since 2005... 2006, since we've been competing against each other in Jamaica. I've always had a cool relationship with him on the track and off the track. We've never gone to a club together or anything like that, but it's always been a mutual respect on my part. So that's how it's always been for me.I'm pretty happy with the victory. I didn't run as fast as I wanted to run, but at the same time I still had the win. I'm undefeated this season (at 100m) and that's what's most important."

Thirteen years after Roberto Carlos stunned onlookers with his amazing "banana" free kick that seemed to defy the law of physics, scientists have finally worked out just how he did it.

In what many people regard as the best free kick ever, the Brazil defender struck the ball with the outside of his left foot 35 yards (meters) out, bending it around the outside of France's three-man wall during a friendly tournament in Lyon in 1997.

The ball looked way off target to the right - a ball boy standing 10 meters (yards) from the goal even ducked his head - but at the last moment, it swerved dramatically inside the post and into the net. The bewildered France goalkeeper, Fabien Barthez, had not even moved.

Many people thought the shot was a fluke, but researchers say it can all be explained by science.

"What happened that day was so special," researcher David Quere told The Associated Press. "We are confronted with an unexpected law of physics, but it's possible to see this again."

Quere, a physicist at the ESPCI and Ecole Polytechnique in Paris, and his colleagues have developed an equation to explain the bizarre trajectory of the shot. Using a small pistol to fire bullets into water at the speed of 100 kph - approximately the speed of Roberto Carlos' shot - they discovered that the path of a sphere when it spins is actually a spiral.

Quere said the study, which has been published in the New Journal of Physics, confirmed the "Magnus effect" - which is responsible for the curved motion of a spinning ball - but it also revealed what the scientists call the "spinning ball spiral."

The spiral effect appears after about 40 meters (yards) with a football. As the ball slows down, the "Magnus effect" becomes more and more pronounced, which eventually creates a spiral.

"The crucial thing is that while the ball is slowing down, the rotation is the same," Quere said. "Hence the trajectory of the ball is going to be more and more bent, that is what creates the spiral.

"When Michel Platini or David Beckham were kicking free kicks from 20 meters, they were bending the ball in an arc. It's not the same thing with Roberto Carlos' goal. He can have this kind of effect because he kicks from long range.

"Another player could repeat it - on the condition that the ball is kicked hard enough, that the kick is taken from about 40 meters and that the player gives some effect to the ball."

Roberto Carlos claimed at the time he had done it all before, against Roma when he was playing for Inter Milan, although he never quite managed to repeat his 1997 trick.

"It's difficult to say whether it was a lucky goal," Quere said. "There is something close to perfection in this trajectory that let me think that Roberto Carlos has probably always taken these kinds of free kicks from long range, and he should have realized that he could take advantage of it."

Barthez said after conceding the goal that he didn't set his wall correctly, but Quere said the goalkeeper probably just thought Roberto Carlos had fluffed his shot.

"Barthez was a very good keeper, at the peak of his art," Quere said. "But the trajectory was eccentric and he didn't move."

Italian dancehall queen, Dominique. - Contributed

We've heard of the invasion of the Japanese at the local street dances, but it isn't often that you come across an Italian in the dancehall.

From the country of Italy comes the Italian dancehall queen, Dominique Folino, who is now a regular at almost every street dance or stage show.

Dominique won the Italian Dancehall Queen competition in 2009 and has since appeared in several music videos such as Bounty Killer and Elephant Man's This is How We Do It, Bridgez and Bounty Killer's Roll Out and a soon to be released Lady Saw video.

She entered the International Battle of the fives on the popular 'Dancin Dynamites' competition as a part of the JapItalian dance group with her male Japanese counterpart, and she also entered the recently held International Dancehall Queen competition. And although she did not win, she is adamant that next year will be her year to take home the crown.

Having started dancing three years ago in Italy, Dominique came to Jamaica in February 2009 to learn more dance moves and to improve her dancing skills.

According to Dominique, "Dancehall music gives me vibes, makes me crazy, mad. I love dancehall music much more than the hip hop and RnB. I can express myself through dancehall music."

"Vybz Kartel is my favourite Jamaican artiste. Mi rate the others, but him a mi artiste. Gaza mi seh! In terms of who gives me the vibes, it's Kartel," she added.

Her interest in dancehall music was sparked by attending the Rotterdam Reggae Sunsplash back home in Italy. The Rotterdam Reggae Sunsplash is one of the biggest festivals in Europe. It was for a number of years held in Italy but was recently moved to neighbouring Spain.

"In Italy we have one of the biggest festivals. Many dancehall and reggae artistes come to Italy for the festival. I went to the Rotterdam festival and fell in love with reggae music. Big artistes like Sizzla, Capleton, Beenie Man, Mavado, Mr Vegas and Morgan Heritage perform in Italy."

Dominique can be seen showing off her dancing skills at street dances such as the popular Passa Passa, Weddy Weddy and Uptown Mondays and her favourite dance moves include Move Dem Up, Stay Clear and Dominique Swing, which was created by her.

At the moment, Dominique is trying to perfect the dance moves, learning from top Jamaican dancers such as Shelly Belly, Mad Michelle, Ding Dong, Cartoon, Cullo Collo and Dr Bird.

Wasp: I see myself at the level that Michael Jackson or Bob Marley was at. A man might feel like those are big shoes to fill, but music has no boundaries and I'm working hard to achieve it.

Colin Hines (centre) reads the riot act to the DJs while co-judge Quiz (right) and host Tami Chynn (left) look on. - Contributed

Local Heineken Green Synergy Reality TV show judge Colin Hines told the 10 DJs selected for the show to step up their game after they did their introductory set, which Hines described as boring.

The DJs, after being introduced by host Tami Chynn at a meet-and-greet session at Fiction Lounge in Kingston, each played an introductory six-minute set.

The DJs who made it to the final cut were Kezah Blackwood, aka DJ Banka from Clarendon; last year's semi-finalist, the lone female Nazria Davis, aka DJ Naz from St Andrew; last years quarter-finalist Andre Flowers, aka Ricky Eminence, and Jerry Oswald, aka DJ Jerry from St Andrew. Other DJs who got the nod included Claude Richardson, aka DJ Don Hype from Mandeville; Oswald Soutar, aka DJ Blu from Montego Bay; Barri Taffe, aka DJ 47 from Mandeville as well as Dwayne Thompson, aka DJ Kuumba from St Catherine. Other DJs who made to the finals were Christian Watt, aka DJ Wattie from St Andrew and Alfred Anderson, aka DJ Blosh from Mandeville.

After being introduced, the DJs began 'vibesing' with each other and the sponsors of the show. In the middle of the fun and frolic, they were given a big surprise when Tami told them that they would each play for six minutes and got 15 minutes to prepare.

The DJs basically played average sets with DJ 47 stopping in the middle of his routine after experiencing technical problems.

challenges

The impromptu announcement by Tami set the tone of what the show would be like where the DJs will not know what will hit them next. Most of the challenges in testing their DJ skills will come as surprises and they will be required to deliver on the spot.

Hines also pointed to the fact that some of the DJs didn't use headphones and instead looked at the music waves on their computers in mixing, which, according to Hines, is cheating.

The DJs were also given another shocker as it was disclosed by the bearer of the good and bad news, Tami, that another DJ would be thrown in the mix, which is the popular Kingston-based DJ Narity.

Popular entertainment personality and promoter Quiz was also introduced as the other local judge. Remaining is the international guest judge whose introduction later in the show will certainly be a blast. The DJs were given a second chance to redeem themselves as in the third episode showing on TVJ this Friday at 9:30 p.m., one of the challenges will be to play a three-minute set.

It will be interesting to see how the DJs fare from this challenge as it was evident that some were nervous while doing their introductory set. The wild card, DJ Narity, will also be keenly watched to see how he handles himself. The DJs are on a quest to win more than $1 million in cash and prizes courtesy of Heineken, along with many other prizes.

Flippa Mafia out on bail?

Deejay Flippa Mafia

Deejay Flippa Mafia has seemingly been given a break at last and is reportedly out on bail in the United States.

The artiste, real name Andrew Davis, was arrested earlier this year after he was allegedly caught trying to enter the United States illegally from the Bahamas in March. The deejay was arrested on March 16 and according to a report made in THE STAR, Flippa at the time knew he had no current legal immigration status in the U.S.

After being arrested, Flippa was being held as a prosecution witness against Julio Santiesteban and Armando Amat, who were charged with encouraging and inducing an alien to enter or reside in the United States. Since then, Flippa has been held in Federal custody, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and more recently was reportedly being held in state custody.

Reports however, surfaced this week that the deejay was released on bail. According to a number of sources he is out on bail and is currently in Philadelphia, where he resided when he previously lived in the United States. Friends of the deejay also claim they have spoken to him since his release.

THE WEEKEND STAR however, after numerous attempts could not confirm these claims.

According to a previous report made in THE WEEKEND STAR, Temple Black of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had confirmed Flippa's detention. "I can confirm there is an ICE detainer but I cannot provide any further details based on our privacy policy."

An ICE detainer, according to the Immigration Policy Centre website immigrationpolicy.org, is a "tool used by ICE and other Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials to identify potentially deportable individuals who are housed in jails or prisons nationwide. An immigration detainer is an official request from ICE to another law enforcement agency (LEA) - such as a state or local jail - that the LEA notify ICE prior to releasing an individual from local custody so that ICE can arrange to take over custody."

Vybz Kartel - File

Popular dancehall song Clarkes is the latest local song to be featured on the popular show 'So You Think You Can Dance Canada'.

The song was released earlier this year and features deejays Vybz Kartel, Popcaan and Gaza Slim and was produced by ZJ Chrome.

'So You Think You Can Dance Canada' is a dance reality show and competition that airs on CTV hosted by Leah Miller and features judges and dance experts Jean Marc Genereux, Tré Armstrong, Luther Brown and Blake McGrath. Currently in its third season, two of the contestants recently blazed a dancehall routine to Clarkes, the video of which is making the rounds on popular social networking site Facebook.com.

Clarkes is the third dancehall song to be featured on the show, which has previously featured routines done to Click Mi Finga by Erup and produced by Truckback Records and Sean Paul's So Fine produced by Stephen McGregor.

When contacted Kartel told THE WEEKEND STAR he was approached via his publicist by the show to use the song. He, however, has not seen the episode. He said: "We took it up 'cause we know it was just more exposure for Vybz Kartel, more exposure for dancehall music yah know wha mean."

In the video from the show, the two dancers are seen practising with trainer Jae Blazer who humorously tried to get the two Canadians to say the signature phrase "wah gwaan Popcaan." Decked out in clarks, the two - a female contemporary dancer and a male hip-hop dancer, got rave reviews from the judges.

Judge Luther Brown said: "See these are the things that make me proud to be a Jamaican, yuh know proud to be a yaady. Yuh see dancehall people usually look at it like it's a freestyle form of dance, it's hard to put a routine together that still has the authentic feel, make the routine travel from one place to the next. It brought back so many feelings, half the crowd don't even know what the song says, he's talking about clarks which is the shoes. You go to the reggae club and you step on somebody's shoes, it's a problem."

Duppy beats man to death?

Family and friends of a man who suddenly collapsed and died at a church in central Kingston yesterday, believe ghosts may be responsible for his death.

"Wah day yah me and him inna di house and di duppy dem did a beat him. Me and him jus' siddung and yu could a see seh dem a lick him," a relative of Casper* the deceased man, told THE WEEKEND STAR yesterday, minutes after his mysterious death and while his body was still inside the church where he had reportedly collapsed.

While requesting that the article not be published, Casper's family members say he became ill sometime last week and was taken to see at least two doctors who could not diagnose him with an ailment.

They claim his situation got worst and he eventually told them he did not think he would live much longer.

"Him sick from last week Wednesday and nobody cyaa figure out a wah happen to him," the family again claimed while pointing to a number of bruises on her legs which she claimed was inflicted by the ghosts she believes are responsible for Casper's death.

As a result, they say he begged them to take him to church where he could get baptised.

THE WEEKEND STAR was told that Casper, who is from Denham Town, west Kingston, was taken to a church along Heroes Circle where he was baptised by a female pastor on Wednesday afternoon. It is further said that Casper requested that he be taken to church on the following day. He would take his final breath, however, while inside the church.

"Him did know seh him naw go mek it, so him ask fi get baptise before him eye shut. Him waa go a heaven, just like how you waa go a heaven," another family member said.

When THE WEEKEND STAR arrived at the church, a number of persons were seen blocking the entrance, seemingly in an attempt to hinder persons from seeing the body. Representatives from the Madden's Funeral Home came to collect the body close to 2:30 p.m. as curious onlookers watched.

I don't hate Bolt, says Gay

September 3, 2010
Started By jubalson1 Comments

AMERICAN 100m record holder and the second fastest man in history Tyson Gay has denied speculations that he hates double world record-holder Usain Bolt.

In an interview in Split, Croatia on the eve of the start of the IAAF/VTB Bank Continental Cup competition, Gay dismissed the notion that he hated the Jamaican track superstar.

bolt-93_w370.jpg

So that's how it's always been for me."

Gay had beaten Bolt in the 200m at the 2007 IAAF World Championships in Helsinki, Finland, but since then has played second fiddle to the Jamaican at major meets.

The American was also on the losing end when Bolt broke the world record in the 100m for the first time at the Reebok Grand Prix in New York in 2008.

Gay is undefeated over the 100m this season and has beaten all the top Jamaicans including Nesta Carter in Zagreb on Wednesday, "I'm pretty happy with the victory. I didn't run as fast as I wanted to run, but at the same time I still had the win. I'm undefeated this season (at 100m) and that's what's most important."

Gay, who shares the fastest time in the world this year (9.78 seconds) with Jamaican Carter, is in Split where he will compete in the 4x100m relay as part of the Americas team.

Gay told the press conference he had been looking forward to teaming with both Bolt and Asafa Powell for the relays in Split, but the Jamaicans ended their seasons early.

"I'm a little disappointed. I thought it was going to be Usain, myself, Asafa and someone else. I figure we could run 36 seconds. But maybe another time."

Gay was not eligible to run the individual 100m as he did not compete at his National Trials.

SCORES of nurses yesterday stayed off the job for the second day, forcing public hospitals to scale down operations to offer emergency services only.

At the same time, the Nurses Association of Jamaica (NAJ) snubbed a meeting that was planned for yesterday morning with the labour ministry to settle the ongoing wage dispute.

Health Minister Rudyard Spencer, who said there was no notification of the industrial action by the executive of the NAJ, stated that emergency protocols were activated to ensure that operations at the affected health facilities were not severely hampered.

"For the affected facilities, only emergency cases are being dealt with. Noncritical patients are being discharged and elective surgeries have been cancelled; senior nursing staff are manning the critical areas of hospital operations," Spencer said in a press release yesterday.

"I want to implore persons to co-operate with the management of the hospitals as we do the best we can to maintain critical services at the affected institutions," the health minister added.

According to the health ministry, 73 per cent of the nurses rostered for the morning shift at the Port Maria Hospital in St Mary failed to show for work, while half of those rostered for the 7:00 am to 3:00 pm shift failed to show at the Victoria Jubilee and Mandeville Hospitals. There was a 42 per cent rate of absenteeism at the St Ann's Bay Hospital, the ministry said. However, while giving percentages the ministry could not say exactly how many nurses failed to report for work.

On the first day of the sick-out the institutions with the highest levels of absenteeism were Port Maria with 55 per cent; 64 per cent at the Port Antonio Hospital; 83 per cent at Mandeville; 50 per cent at Linstead, 40 per cent at Annotto Bay; 61 per cent at St Ann's Bay and 51 per cent at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital.

The ministry yesterday urged persons to make contact with the health facilities for information on loved ones and services being offered.

For several months, public sector nurses have been involved in an ugly dispute with the Government over the failure of the administration to implement a job reclassification, which would see nurses receiving substantial increases.

The writings of slain Stone Crusher Gang leader Cedric Murray

LONELINESS, love for his children and his woman, introspection, and a deep hatred for the police and politicians are the major highlights of the diary of slain Stone Crusher Gang leader Cedric Murray.

Excerpts of the diary, obtained by the Observer under the Access to Information Act, also indicated that Murray had some amount of remorse for his life as a gangster, even as he pledged in a mixture of perfect and imperfect grammar that he was prepared to die fighting

Doggie3_w370.jpg

"I say if I am ever cornered I shall fight until the end," Murray wrote in one entry. "But if death should befall me just remember while you murder me go home and look at your kids and wonder how perfect they are in a imperfect world. Will your child one day become what I have been accused of. Run along Mr and Miss perfect because you are just a vampire. You are worst than me."

In another entry dated July 14, 2008 Murray wrote: "Nothing has improved much. I am still living but my life feel wasted, this is no life for anyone but this is the real truth of a gangster in my condition, lonely and don't know who to trust."

Murray, also known as 'Doggie', was shot dead by police on August 12 in what the cops said was a gunfight near the border of Clarendon and Manchester. He was on the police list of Jamaica's 10 most wanted men for more than seven years.

According to the police, Murray was on the run since 2002 after he was accused of at least six murders committed in St James in previous years. He was also fingered in a triple murder at Felicity Road in Montego Bay in February 2006.

Police said that a Cigpro 9mm and the diary were taken from Murray's body, while the driver of the vehicle in which Murray was travelling escaped. Police believe he, too, was shot.

Entries in the diary suggested that Murray, who was from Montego Bay, was among the hundreds of gunmen police said were imported into Tivoli Gardens by Christopher 'Dudus' Coke to fight in his (Coke's) defence in May.

The security forces were preparing to arrest Coke, whose extradition on drugs and arms trafficking charges the Americans had sought.

But gunmen loyal to Coke had barricaded the entrances to Tivoli Gardens and had shot at police and soldiers as they sought to remove the barriers.

On May 24, after repeated requests from the security forces for the barricades to be taken down and for Coke to surrender, soldiers stormed the community, but came under heavy gunfire. The skirmishes, which lasted for three days, but decreased in intensity over the period, resulted in 73 persons -- among them a soldier -- being killed.

In his entry dated May 23-24, 2010 Murray wrote: "Days of the first sign of chaos in the West. Day of war (24) all hell broke loose more than we expect but yet still again babylon prove how they are even worst than the gunman."

Dating his next entry May 24, 2010, Murray wrote: "Invasion of Tivoli Garden by babylon the enemy, gun shots rang out from every conner of West Kingston and other places of KGN to protect the man Don of all Dons. Christopher Coke, AKA Dudus... The man they came after is till free and safe, my Don and friend alway. It was a raging gun battle a day I won't forget and such tragedy for Jamaica more than 75 people dies by babylon, man, baby and woman... Because their motive was all wrong I escape one of the last from where I was under crazy gun fire, but God grace, mercy brought me out untouched and my Don is free. I will always say Jim Brown, I am loyal to the Coke family and my guns will always be ready."

Murray also praised Coke, describing him as a "good" and "gentle man" and hurled abuse at Prime Minister Bruce Golding whom he labelled a "puppet" of the USA.

Added the gang leader: "I fired my AK until my finger was numb. I eat gun powder until my throat soar."

The gangster also expressed frustration at the fact that he was unable to go out to a movie with his woman, or to take her shopping because he was wanted by the police.

Said he in an entry dated September 13, 2009: "Today I felt a touch of envy in a positive way. I saw a man and his woman going out on a date. I just wish I could just go out with the love of my life."

Murray also expressed joy at the birth of his son on August 30, 2009, saying "the boy make my joyful. I am truly blessed. Despite our present struggle in my village we are standing. I love life, life is wonderful."

He named six children and a step-daughter for whom he expressed great concern and in a couple of entries spoke of how his lifestyle has damaged his relationship with his woman.

Canadian firm identifies large potential for oil, but won't drill without a partner

Sagres Energy, the parent of Canadian firm Rainville Energy, which has the rights to explore three blocks offshore Jamaica for oil, says it has identified a "seismic bump" that could have three billion barrels of oil.

And now, the firm has until next March to drill and verify or give up the licence, but won't drill unless it finds a partner.

oil-in-ja_w370.jpg

In a statement issued last Friday, Sagres announced that "results of an independent evaluation of the resource potential of certain prospectus identified in Sagres' blocks 9, 13 and 14 in the shallow-waters (20 metres) of the Pedro Bank 120 kms offshore Jamaica show(s) a gross mean prospective resource estimate (oil) of three billion barrels".

The company's chief financial officer (CFO) told the Business Observer that the term resource means that the readings "showed a seismic bump that should there be oil that is how much would be in it". He referred to Business Observer to the president and chief geologist, David Johnson, who was unavailable after several attempts to contact him via telephone.

In the statement, however, Johnson said "this evaluation provides a better understanding of the tremendous resource potential that lays in Jamaica".

"With the combination of nine of 11 historical Jamaican wells with oil shows, thre mature sources, two potential reservoirs, and large structures, we believe that it is only a matter of time before a large untapped commercial resource is discovered in Jamaica. Furthermore, Jamaica is ready to commercialise its resource potential with refining capacity of 45,000 barrels of oil per day, electricity generators that accept gas, oil, or biodiesel fuels, an established bauxite industry, and a geographic position central to the major global marine trade routes," he said.

Sagres says it will continue to pursue joint venture partners to further explore and develop its interests in the blocks and has already signed confidentiality agreements with several international energy companies to access the data for the blocks, and evaluate the potential for a joint venture. But the firm says it won't drill unless it finds a partner.

YOUNG BUCK PLANS TO SUE G-UNIT

August 31, 2010

Rapper Young Buck may be in bankruptcy, but that doesnt mean hell give up his bling, or his beef with 50 Cent, without a fight. A few weeks after the Nashville rapper (real name: David Darnell Brown) filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy protection and saw his assets seized by the Internal Revenue Service, Young Bucks lawyer says hes trying to get his property back and plans to sue fellow rapper Curtis Jackson (you may know him as 50 Cent), with whom hes been feuding for the past few years. Mr. Brown intends to reorganize his debts and pay off the IRS in a timely manner through Chapter 13. We hope to secure the return of his personal property quickly. He will also be filing a lawsuit in the next 30-60 days against his former manager, G-Unit label and Mr. Curtis Jackson, Lynda Jones, Young Bucks bankruptcy attorney, told the Nashville City Paper. Young Bucks beef with 50 Cent (who holds a contingent claim of $5 million in Young Bucks bankruptcy) dates back to his time as a member of G-Unit, the crew of rappers that 50 Cent signed to his record label and called on to back him up in his songs. 50 Cent told MTV in 2008 that he kicked Young Buck out of the group after he made disparaging comments about it in public. However, 50 Cent kept Young Buck on his G-Unit record label, which Young Buck told MTV in early August that hes still fighting to be released from (he currently has his own label, Cashville Records). As for the rappers financial problems, Young Buck filed a payment plan in his bankruptcy proceeding on Aug. 19 that commits him to paying $12,500 a month for the next 60 months. According to court papers, his creditors are owed $1 million, and hes required to pay them at least $750,000. Among Young Bucks debts are $33,100 owed on a 2009 Cadillac Escalade and about $700,000 on two mortgages. Theres also the IRS (owed about $300,000 for several years worth of unpaid taxes) which on Aug. 3 seized such assets from Browns home as a Breitling diamond watch, more than $20,000 in music-recording equipment, 50 Cent and G-Unit memorabilia, a faux fur coat, six televisions and X-Box. The City Paper reported that the feds took about $70,000 worth of goods in all, which didnt leave Young Buck too pleased. The worst part of this isnt the material stuff that will all be replaced, Buck said in a statement to MTV. Its what it does to the people around me. They took my kids PlayStation, my assistants computers, and babys mothers jewelry. They took my home studio so I cant even record. But the rapper said amid all the drama, hes learning a valuable lesson. I have a new team in place, but I am also paying full attention now, he said. Nothing like this will ever happen again. This is a huge wake-up call for all entertainers to stay on top of your own trusted employees and team members, and replace anyone that was put in place by your record label if the situation you have goes sour. This IRS situation came about because I trusted accountants, lawyers and managers to handle my business for me while I focused on making music. From now on, I am going to stay on top of my own business. "Nothing like this will ever happen again. This is a huge wake-up call for all entertainers to stay on top of your own trusted employees and team members, and replace anyone that was put in place by your record label if the situation you have goes sour." hmm isnt that what 50 did with you?

MASSACHUSETTS, USA (AP) A man has been arrested after a kilogramme of cocaine hidden inside a hollowed-out chunk of bologna was delivered to his home.

Holyoke police say they were tipped off by postal inspectors in Puerto Rico who had been investigating similar shipments. A dog confirmed the presence of drugs and the bologna was cut open.

The meat was then repackaged and an undercover postal inspector delivered it to a Holyoke address at about 4:45 pm Thursday. A woman sitting on the front steps signed for it.

Police then executed a search warrant and arrested a 30-year-old man on a cocaine trafficking charge.

Police say the cocaine had a street value of $100,000. The investigation is ongoing.

Addressing rumours of a rift between himself and deejay Vybz Kartel, DJ Liquid says, 'Everything is cool.'

Rumours of a rift have been circulating since Friday, after a broadcast message was sent via Blackberry Messenger that was allegedly sent by Kartel and directed at the Zip Jock. In the message Kartel seemingly takes offence to Liquid's use of his slang 'Oh'. The broadcast read, "pawdie how ya tell people say a you gimme 'oh'. Liquid, mi a tek it to the stage shows and tell people dem fi warn you and Beenie. Member mi a one of the baddest deejay ever and you a wanna-be DJ. You tek mi style and never say thanks. If you haffi gimme a line in a tune mi stop DJ."

Describing the incident as "foolishness" Liquid described Kartel as a friend and brethren and could not understand how the broadcast and its content came about. Liquid, however, says "mi alrite, mi good. Mi just 'low it and start pree tings differently."

When contacted Kartel also confirmed that the two were good.

An Afghan bill allowing a husband to starve his wife if she refuses to have sex has been published in the official gazette and become law.

The original bill caused outrage earlier this year, forcing Afghan President Hamid Karzai to withdraw it. But critics say the amended version of the law remains highly repressive. They accuse Mr. Karzai of selling out Afghan women for the sake of conservative Shia support at next weeks presidential election. The law governs family life for Afghanistans Shia minority.

Sexual demands

The original version obliged Shia women to have sex with their husbands every four days at a minimum, and it effectively condoned rape by removing the need for consent to sex within marriage. Western leaders and Afghan womens groups were united in condemning an apparent reversal of key freedoms won by women after the fall of the Taliban. Now, an amended version of the same bill has passed quietly into law with the apparent approval of President Karzai. Just ahead of this Thursdays Afghan presidential election, human rights groups suggest the timing is no accident. There was a review process Karzai came under huge pressure from all over the world to amend this law, but many of the most oppressive laws remain, Rachel Reid, the Human Rights Watch representative in Kabul, told the BBC.

What matters more to Karzai is the support of fundamentalists and hardliners here in Afghanistan whose support he thinks he needs in the elections. Womens groups say its new wording still violates the principle of equality that is enshrined in their constitution. It allows a man to withhold food from his wife if she refuses his sexual demands; a woman must get her husbands permission to work; and fathers and grandfathers are given exclusive custody of children.

Bounty Killer (left) and Beenie Man are all smiles as the two thrilled the crowd at Fully Loaded 2010. - Nathaniel Stewart

After years of rivalry, Beenie Man said the truce that has been called between himself and Bounty Killer is a real one and not an act being put on by them.

When contacted by THE WEEKEND STAR, Beenie Man explained that he is pleased with the unity between himself and Bounty Killer. He said that when they were told to call a truce via an external party, the peace is not likely to last. However, the fact that they came together as men, means that they are serious about making peace.

"It is actually real," Beenie Man told THE WEEKEND STAR. "This one is real, honest. This is not for any hype or anything 'cause wi nuh really need no hype 'cause hype only talk bout for three months and then it stop," he said, noting that the business needs them to be positive.

performed together

The two have been at odds since 1993 when Bounty accused Beenie of piracy. They also squared off at Sting in 1993 and have been bitter rivals since.

Earlier this month, Bounty Killer invited Beenie Man to perform with him at Guinness Summer Eclipse that was held at The Jungle in Negril. Then, they performed together at Fully Loaded a week later.

But this is not the first time they have declared peace, as they did this before, hugging in a televised meeting in 1994 and exchanging songs onstage at Sting in 1995.

Nonetheless, Beenie Man says the song that they are doing together since calling the truce should be released by next week, as he has already done his part and is waiting on Bounty Killer to complete his. He said the song is being produced by Leftside and is a 'girls song'.

In addition, the artiste, who turns 38 years old on Sunday, will be celebrating his birthday at The Building, New Kingston, tomorrow.

He says, "It always feels good to celebrate another birthday. Nuff people nuh live to see this age, so you have to be very happy."

Beenie Man will also be celebrating his wedding anniversary on Sunday. "Di anniversary different," he said, noting that it will be celebrated privately.

And when asked if he was working on his marriage with D'Angel, his response was "pretty much".

As for his career, Beenie Man says it is going very well after decades in the music business.

"Mi get back two number ones for the summer (I'm Ok and Drinking Rum and Red Bull featuring Fambo). Things are going on fine for my career. All the songs that I sing over the last three months going on good," he said noting that some of the songs that were not as popular in Jamaica went to number one in other countries.

Beenie Man also mentioned his newest album, King In Control, that will be released by November.

He says the public can expect "nothing but the best. You know when mi put out an album, you can play it inna yuh car and nuh skip a song".

A woman's decomposing body has been found wedged inside the chimney of her lover's home after she tried to sneak into his house.

Dr Jacquelyn Kotarac, 49, scaled a ladder to the roof, removed the chimney cap and slid down the flue of the property in Bakersfield, California.

The woman, who had an "on-again, off again" relationship with the man, had gone to the house on Wednesday last week, police said.

But the man refused to let her in and escaped unnoticed from the house "to avoid a confrontation", police added.

Dr Kotarac is believed to have been stuck in the chimney for three days.

Her body was discovered by a house-sitter who noticed "an odour and fluids" coming from the fireplace, police said.

The house-sitter and her son found the woman's body wedged about two feet above the top of the interior fireplace opening.

Firefighters spent five hours dismantling the chimney and flue from the outside of the property to extract the body.

The man's identity has been revealed in media reports as William Moodie, 58, the owner of a petroleum engineering company.

"She made an unbelievable error in judgement and nobody understands why, and unfortunately she's passed away," Mr Moodie told the Associated Press.

"She had her issues, she had her demons, but I never lost my respect for her."

He would not comment on the circumstances that led to her death but described her as a "superb internist who often provided service and medication free of charge to her patients".

Dr Kotarac ran a medical practice seeing as many as 200 patients a week, reports said.

Her office staff reported her missing when she failed to turn up to work.

Bakersfield coroner's office said Dr Kotarac died of asphyxiation and concluded the death was an accident.

August 19, 2010
Started By Konvict9 Comments

A businessman who was tricked and robbed by a man pretending to be a dumb female beggar has become the topic for disccusion in a Clarendon community.

THE STAR heard that some two weeks ago, the businessman who was at home was awoken by sounds of someone knocking on his gate some time around 9 p.m.

When he went to investigate, he was said to be greeted by a character who acted in a manner which suggested that 'she' could not speak, but instead used hand gestures to beg money and food.

THE STAR further heard that the businessman invited the person into his home and offered to cook a quick meal.

While preparing the meal, it is said that the beggar got up, revealed he was in fact a man. He was said to have also pulled a firearm before demanding money.

The thief is said to have obtained $8,000 from his victim before refitting his disguise and making off into the night.

The businessman raised an alarm with the hope of accosting the thief but he was not captured.

The businessman is said to have recounted the incident to a number of persons who came out of their houses to see what the fuss was about.

formal report

When THE STAR contacted the Area 3 police, a source said they were made aware of the incident by the victim who was urged to submit a formal report. He, however, claimed he was leaving for the United States the following morning and promised to do so as soon as he returned to the island.

"It is something that we would have to follow up on because the businessman said he would give us a report when he came back from the States' but he hasn't come forward as yet so we don't know if he is in fact here," the source, a detective corporal explained.

Meanwhile, one resident from the community said the incident has become the hot topic on everyone's lips. Some persons are said to be ridiculing the businessman while others have lauded his attempt at being kind and said he did not deserve to be robbed.

"All now people still a chat bout it, di way it happen kinda funny eno ... Some people a laugh after him but some people sorry fi him," the resident claimed.

Bolt: Gay probably hates my guts

LONDON, England (AP) Olympic champion Usain Bolt said American sprint rival Tyson Gay "probably just hates my guts" because he has dominated major championships.

Bolt won both the 100 and 200-metre titles at the 2008 Olympics in world-record times, and helped Jamaica win gold and set another world record in the 4x100-metre relay.

Bolt_w370.jpg

A year later, he again set world records in the 100 and 200 at the World Championships in Berlin.

"I think Tyson sits at home and cusses me," Bolt told BBC radio yesterday. "He just really gets upset because every time he runs fast, I run faster than he does. At the World Championship he ran 9.71 and that's the fastest a US athlete has ever run and he was still cussing. So deep down I think he probably just hates my guts."

The 24-year-old Bolt hadn't lost an individual race in two years until last month, when Gay beat him in Stockholm in a 100-metre race.

"It's no stress. This year is not a championship year, this is my year off I would say, so it is no problem," Bolt said. "I am always ready, prepared and on top of my game (at the championships)."

Bolt says that he doesn't speak to the 28-year-old Gay away from the track.

"We are cool but we aren't the best of friends," Bolt said.

Blak Ryno Issues Statement Regarding Alleged Assault

Black_Ryno.jpg

Amidst reports of an alleged altercation between popular sound system selector Boom Boom and dancehall deejay Blak Ryno.

The artiste has issued a statement distancing himself from the incident and allegations and it read.

It has been brought to my attention that Boom Boom was attacked by a group of men said to be aligned to me at the popular street dance Uptown Mondays, this is rather unfortunate.

Though I was at the event with a few friends on the day in question, it was only for a short period of time and I left the venue long before the melee unfolded and went straight home.

Contrary to rumours, there was absolutely no physical or verbal exchanges between me and Boom Boom. As for the men who allegedly attacked him, neither do I know them nor are they affiliated to me or my camp in any way.

Presently I am focused on rebuilding my career and making good music for the masses. Being involved in verbal or physical confrontation is not the direction I am looking to take my career.

In closing Blak Ryno whose given name is Romaine Anderson said fans can look out for a video soon and his new single Feel Like Sey on the Swaggy Swaggy Rhythm produced by G-Jay Production among other upcoming projects.

Based on the order, Wayne has consumed various popular American snacks.

TMZ has obtained documents of the rapper's commissary food order from last month while serving time at Rikers Island . Among the items on his list are beef sticks, Kool-Aid, Halls cough drops, ramen soup, Nacho Cheese Doritos, 50 sugar packets, and Poland Spring water (no soda). Wayne also requested 20 envelopes and stamps so he can correspond with his family, friends, and fans, who've been writing him non-stop since he checked in in March. (Rap-Up)

Wayne has also been able to keep fans in-tune to everything he is doing via his blog while he awaits his November 4th release from prison.

"So I've been writing and let me be the first to tell you that the lyrics that I'm writing are... well there's no word that I can think of that properly defines them. Amazing would be too typical and perfect would be unfair. I listen to the radio sometimes, emphasis on sometimes, and I hear the new music. I like some. I applaud my Young Money family for what they're doing. As I'm not surprised. This is what we're supposed to do. Congrats to Drake and Nicki for all their recent success. Those 2 are going to have me retiring early. I love my team. Much love to Tez and Mack. I know that people are inquisitive of what I do all day, so here goes. I wake up around 11AM. Have some coffee. Call my kids, and my wonderful mother. I then shower up. Read fan mail. Have lunch. Back on the phone. Read a book or write some thoughts down. Have dinner. Phone. Pushups. Then I listen to ESPN  on the radio. Read the bible, then sleep. That's my day." (Weezy Thanx You)

He has also placed Young Money's Lil Twist in charge of his online presence.

He calls me," Twist said in an interview. "He lets me know what he wants me to update from time and time. Every time he calls, I update everything he wants. That's my heavy connection to his blog site...That's a hard job. But I am that...Me and Wayne, we're like brothers. He really took me in. He taught me how to do everything, he taught me the music business," Twist added. "We got a strong brother bond." (MTV)

Scheduled to be released as early as November 4th, Wayne was placed behind bars last spring.

Lil Wayne has been sentenced to a year in jail after pleading guilty in a New York City gun case. The Grammy Award-winning rapper was taken away in handcuffs to start serving his term immediately after his sentencing. He'll serve his sentence in city jails, not a state prison. He could be released in about eight months with good behavior
