DESPITE an error-filled display, Jamaica's Reggae Boyz were still good enough to beatCaribbean arch-rivals, Trinidad and Tobago, 1-0 in a friendly international football match at the National Stadium last evening.
Dane Richards scored the winner, coolly slotting away a penalty kick at the 19th minute.
The penalty came from one of few good team build-ups by the Jamaicans when Eric Vernan was taken down near the six-yard area, as he burst forward looking to win a pass laid across goalmouth by Shaun Francis, one of two players given a senior team debut by head coach Theodore 'Tappa' Whitmore.
Jamaica also had a goal disallowed when Dever Orgill, who made his senior team debut as a second-half sub, rounded goalkeeper Jan Michael Williams and slipped the ball into the unprotected goal at the 73rd minute, only for the conversion to be waved away for offside.
Former St George's College schoolboy Marvin Morgan Jr also got his first start but, while both debutants showed a fair amount of confidence, their general play was like that of the team, largely unproductive and failed to enliven the gathering of nearly 8,000 which turned up despite the threat of rain posed by recurring showers over the past weeks.
Inefficiency
The major element of the locals' inefficiency was their passing, which was quite terrible as they turned over the ball with alarming regularity against a very ordinary team, more through carelessness than composure as they appeared largely relaxed in possession.
The turnovers were far more significant in the second half when Trinidad and Tobago introduced Keon Daniel to their attack and became more threatening in their build-ups.
Despite that, they lacked a real punch and hardly created a clear opening.
Their best opportunity came at the 17th minute when Yohance Marshall's header, off a corner kick taken by Trent Noel, was saved by Richard McCallum.
They got another decent chance in the second half when a defensive lapse allowed Cornell Glenn to win possession going wide to the byline. However, his attempt to cross to the unmarked Anthony Wolfe was blocked by McCallum, 20 minutes into a second half when they dominated possession but could not cut a route through the Jamaican defence.
This is where they differed mainly from the Jamaicans, who possess players with cutting edge and found a way though their defence on many occasions to create very clear scoring chances.
Richards, the scorer, and Ricardo Fuller made decent openings in a first half where Jamaica had a superior game. But Morgan, twice, Richards and Vernan had shots on goal fisted away by Williams.
Even during the second half when Jamaica failed to combine passes and were forced into kicking the ball from their penalty box while defending resolutely, they proved to be by far the more dangerous team by making bread and butter chances.
However, Ryan Johnson, who added some power to the offence, and Orgill both had excellent opportunities saved or placed wide, to sum up their off-key performance in a game they still managed to win.

Roger Clarke faces charges
Former minister to be arrested for causing death by dangerous driving
Thursday, October 07, 2010
DIRECTOR of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Paula Llewelyn yesterday ruled that former Agriculture Minister Roger Clarke be charged with causing death by dangerous driving in the case of St Catherine motorcyclist Daron Nicholson, 23.
According to the police, the DPPs ruling, done according to section 30(1) of the Road Traffic Act, was made yesterday
Neither the police nor Clarkes lead attorney, Queens Counsel KD Knight, could say last night exactly when the parliamentarian would be charged, but the legal team was arranging a date for their client to appear before the court.
We are working for an early court date, [possibly] a date for this week, Knight told the Observer.
The accident that claimed Nicholsons life occurred on Old Harbour Road on Monday, August 23, in the vicinity of Nightingale Grove, when the Toyota Prado Land Cruiser driven by Clarke collided with the motorcycle which Nicholson was riding in the opposite direction.
Yesterday, Knight said that Clarke, as expressed previously, regrets the fact that a young man died in that particular circumstance and that it has affected him in an emotional way. The lawyer, however, said his client would be cleared of any allegation of wrongdoing.
At the end of the day he will be blameless, Knight said.
The Earthquake Unit at the University of the West Indies confirmed the tremors epicenter was St Margarets Bay in Portland on the countrys north east coast.
The Earthquake Unit said the tremor occurred about 4:32 pm and lasted about 30 seconds.
Residents close to, or within the upper and lower reaches of the Black River Mo**** were hoping and praying yesterday that heavy rains forecasted for this weekend will in fact stay away or at least stay moderate.
For the most part water levels have subsided over recent days following the passage of Tropical Storm Nicole more than a week ago. But heavy showers in sections of the parish on Friday have boosted the flow of water to the Black River and heightened the fear level.
"Is just the rain is the problem now because you know the place flat, and the way the river behave the water will come down if there is a lot of heavy rain," New River egg farmer Derrick Scott, who suffered "massive" damage as a result of the Nicole rains, told the Sunday Observer by phone.
Scott, said to be one of the biggest egg farmers in western Jamaica, is reporting a loss of about 80 per cent of his 18,000 birds in the latest floods. He declined to put a money figure on his loss yesterday.
Scott is a long-time resident of New River, a community just north of Santa Cruz -- on the edge of the Upper Black River Mo****. It is among Jamaica's most flood-prone areas and yesterday Scott reiterated claims from New River residents that the current flooding in that community is "the worst it has been since 1951".
The Santa Cruz main road to New River remains cut off because of water several feet high. Residents of a number of smaller communities either side of New River, including Brighton just off the Santa Cruz bypass road to the north, are also being forced to take circuitous routes to and from the town because of flood waters.
Councillor Stallyn Brown (JLP, Santa Cruz Division) told the Sunday Observer that over 40 families in New River were with neighbours, friends or in approved shelters after flood waters took over their homes. Brown said more than 30 families had been dislocated in communities just off the bypass road.
Word yesterday from the north-west St Elizabeth town of New Market was that the water at the eastern end of the community was continuing to rise, rekindling memories of 1979 when virtually the entire town was covered, forcing an evacuation.
Access roads from New Market to Montego Bay and eastern Westmoreland remain blocked.
The National Works Agency said yesterday that while New Market continued to be of "grave concern" most of the major access routes in the parish that had been inundated a few days ago were now open. Maggotty, in the north, remained a "concern" but the water was said to be "receding" and the access road to northern communities was said to be partially open.
On Friday, the executive of the St Elizabeth Homecoming Foundation toured the parish with chairman of the organisation Donna Parchment pledging to give whatever assistance possible "while not trying to take the place of any authorised body or agency".
Former New York Council Woman Una Clarke accompanied the group on tour and Parchment told the Sunday Observer by phone that "we are hoping to make some sort of Diaspora link".
While expressing consternation at the level of dislocation in people's lives and the considerable agricultural and economic loss, Parchment praised what she called the "resilience" of the people of St Elizabeth who were "quickly getting their lives back together".
Yesterday evening, as rains continued to pound the island, the Meteorological Service upgraded its Flash Flood Watch to a Flash Flood Warning for all parishes until 5:00 pm today.
"An area of low pressure currently across the central Caribbean has been producing unstable weather across Jamaica," the Met Service said in a news release. "This disturbance is expected to linger across the region until Monday and will continue to influence the weather over the island during the period.
"Satellite imagery and radar reports indicate that large areas of moderate to heavy showers with embedded thunderstorms continue to move northward across Jamaica," the Met Service said, adding that the forecast was for continued outbreaks of showers and thunderstorms, especially over southern parishes, through to today.
The Met Service advised motorists and pedestrians against attempting to cross flooded roadways or other low-lying areas as strong currents are likely. "Residents in low-lying areas should be on the alert for rising waters and be ready to move quickly to higher ground," the Met Service said.

The ruling paved the way for a by-election Friday morning.
Robinson, who was forced to vacate the seat after lawyers representing Senior-Smith presented proof that she was a citizen of the United States, has indicated that she will be offering herself as a candidate when a date for a by-election is announced by the Electoral Office of Jamaica.
Robinson was ordered to pay legal costs

MONTEGO BAY, St James Commanding officer for the St James Police Division Superintendent Merrick Watson has credited community policing in the Flankers community for the handing over of two firearms by residents of the area to the police.
"What we are seeing here is the initial fruit of the hard work that we are putting in," Superintendent Watson told reporters yesterday at a press briefing at the Montego Bay Freeport Police station.
The weapons a .357 magnum revolver and an intratec submachine gun with four rounds of ammunition Watson said, were handed over to him. He declined, however, to say when they were received.
The community has had a history of violence and *la*hdletting and has been the scene of many protests by the residents.
But Watson said that since the introduction of community policing this year the residents have pledged to make the community peaceful.
"They have decided that enough is enough. They are tired of the fighting. They are tired of going to their beds at nights and wondering if people are going to come and kick in their doors, so they have decided that they are going to give community policing a chance," he explained.
He added that the handing over of the two guns was a clear signal that the residents have decided to work with the police, in an effort to make the community crime free.
The commanding officer, however, made it clear that the police would not rest on their laurels and would continue operations in the area.
"We know that this is a drop in the bucket (the handing over of the two guns) and that there are more guns out there and so we are still going to do our searches and raids as we continue to engage the residents," he observed.
Meet Japan's 76 Yr Old Shigeo Tokuda, The World's Oldest Porn Star. Who Made Hundreds Of Skin Flick's Before His Wife Ever Found Out!
If you have ever made the mistake of cheating on your woman, you know it's hard to keep it a secret for long.
That wasn't the case for Shigeo Tokuda. A 76 year old married grandfather, who just happened to moonlight as a porn star.
Tokudo got his start as a man w**** several years ago. He was approached by a man in a porn store who told him he would be perfect for XXX films because he had the face of a pervert.
What started out as a few small cameo roles has turned into a full time job for the retired travel agent, who earns $400-$500dollars a day starring in "elder porn."
Don't get it twisted though, "elder porn" isn't just with older women. Tokudo is blowing the backs out of young twenty something year olds as well.
His family might not have ever found out his "side profession", had it not been for a mistake by a production company that faxed the script to 'Prohibited Elderly Care Vol. 20' to his home.
His 35 year old daughter read it and his cover was blown.
You might think Tokudo would have been kicked out of the house by his wife, but that wasn't the case.
"My wife lets me do whatever I want now that Im retired, he says. Shes just concerned about my health and tells me not to work too hard.
After having starred in over 350 skin flicks, including the ridiculously titled 'Maniac Training of Lolitas', Tokudo has no plans to retire anytime soon.
Reggae artist Capleton is one of many reggae artist currently experiencing fallout from Gay Rights pressures.
Urban Islandz was reliably informed that The Gay Liberation Network (GLN) has forced the cancellation of Capleton upcoming concert in Chicago. The Fireman Capleton was scheduled to perform at the Kinetic Playground in Chicago this Saturday.
Last week Urban Islandz broke news that Gay Rights group GLN has stepped up pressure on the owner of the venue to cancel Capleton show, claiming violence and hate in the Reggae artist lyrics towards homosexuals. But the club owner Jim Gouskos told the media that he was not aware of Capleton hate lyrics and that he cannot afford the US$11,000 to cancel the concert. However, the GLN in a letter told Gouskos that they will be out protesting this weekend if the show was not cancelled.
In the letter to Roger Fraser the GLN representative told Gouskos about their intentions if there demands are not met.
No respectable promoter would knowingly schedule a performer whose lyrics promoted violence and murder against blacks or Jews or Muslims. We ask for and expect the same consideration to be made concerning LGBT people. Very few promoters want to be associated with murderous bigotry and calls from the stage to commit mayhem.
Capleton is currently embarked on a tour in the US to promote his latest album I-Ternal fire, which was released in the summer by VP Records. The tour maybe in jeopardy as Gay Rights groups are hinting to step up their pressure. Below is a banner they already have out.
Duke is in an uproar about a highly detailed "F*** list" that a recent female graduate made in PowerPoint, complete with penis-size evaluations and dirty talk transcripts. We've got that document, and spoke exclusively to the now-contrite author.
The full document begins at the bottom of the page.
Upon graduating, the author decided to pass on the wisdom she had learned, in thesis format. The subject: "An education beyond the classroom: excelling in the realm of horizontal academics." The thirteen subjects are each preceded by a tableau of photos of the men, most of which seem to be pulled from Facebook and athletic action shots. (There are lots of athletes on the list, including many players from Duke's lacrosse team, whose behavior has come under scrutiny in the past, though they were cleared of wrongdoing.)

Reports by Tjenbé Rčd, the Afro-Caribbean association for the struggle against all forms of racism, homophobia and aids in France, are that deejay Vybz Kartel has signed the Reggae Compassionate Act which calls for the artiste to halt all anti-homophobic lyrics or statements.
News that the Stop Murder Music (SMM) France campaign received a signed copy of the RCA surfaced on the Internet a few weeks ago. A copy of the document, which has the artiste's name and what is alleged to be his signature, was placed on the site, www.tjenbered.fr. It is claimed that he signed the document on September 22.
Attempts by THE WEEKEND STAR to reach Kartel were unsuccessful as he was unavailable for comment.
According to a release on www.tjenbered.fr, "signing this Code of Practice is an example of real progress in the struggle against all forms of homophobia in Jamaica, France and the rest of the world. The SMM coalition has been waiting for this since 2004".
When contacted David Auerbach Chiffrin of the Tjenbé Rčd told THE WEEKEND STAR that they considered the signing to be a "courageous and noble act of solidarity between minorities".
minority
He added, "I think it was very courageous for him because I know for sure it is not proper for him in Jamaica to sign it. But it is the 21st century we have to move forward. We know very well what it is to be a minority in France and we cannot allow a minority, black people, to fight against another minority, gays."
In 2007, gay groups in the US and Europe drafted the Reggae Compassionate Act, which called on dancehall acts to be more tolerant to homosexuals.
For years, protests from gay activists have dogged the careers of Jamaican artistes internationally. Deejay Shabba Ranks experienced the backlash after responding to a question about Buju Banton's Boom Bye Bye. Buju himself has been plagued across the globe with banned concerts since doing that song, while others such as Beenie Man, TOK., Capleton, Sizzla and Elephant Man have experienced similar pressure.
Kartel performed at the Elysée-Montmartre in France in late September and according to the release onwww.tjenbered.fr, attempts to stop the concert were being made by Ian Brossat, chair of the group of communist and Left Party elected representatives on Paris city council, counsellor for the 18th district, who had moved for a formal request to be sent to the capital's Prefect of Police asking him "to consider the risks to public order which might be provoked by" the singer's concert in the district.
It is alleged that after Kartel signed the Reggae Compassionate Act, the request was withdrawn in relation to this concert.
A concert which was to be held at the Elysée-Montmartre on Sept-ember 24 with reggae singer Sizzla Kalonji was subsequently cancelled due to efforts made by gay affiliates. The release added, "Vigilance is still required. Several performers of murder music have signed the RCA, then denied having signed it ... ."
According to Auerbach Chiffrin, they will be keeping on eye on Kartel to make sure he "respects his words".
"The bottles are identical and I am not young anymore, but I am not senile. I just did this because these are my precious eye drops."
That's what Irmgard Holm told MyFoxPhoenix after going through a nightmarish experience, that landed her in the hospital with doctors trying to pry her eyes open after she accidentally superglued them shut.
Holm, who had cataract surgery last year, reached for what she thought was eye drop medication, but instead was actually superglue. When she felt a burning sensation, she realized something was very wrong.
Holm attempted to wash the glue out of her eyes, but by that time they were sealed shut.
"It was a nightmare and a half," Holm says.
Paramedics and hospital staff rushed to remove the glue before her eyes suffered major damage.
"They had to cut off the glue substance. It was all hard, and it was in the eye and just everywhere. I couldn't even see,"said a still shaken Holm.
She wants companies that make superglue to change their packaging so something like this doesn't happen to more people.
"You can go infection, blindness, removal of the eye on something like this, please help."
My only question is, what the hell are the eyedrops and glue doing next to each other in the first place?
LOS ANGELES Toni Braxton has filed for bankruptcy a second time, citing millions of dollars in debt and financial problems exacerbated by a heart condition that forced her to cancel a series of Las Vegas shows.
The filing will likely result in the six-time Grammy Award winner having to sell some of her assets to pay off debts listed in court records as ranging between $10 million and $50 million.
Her attorney, Debra G****green, said in a statement the filing will allow Braxton to pay off tax debts, sell heavily indebted property in Atlanta and still care for her children.

Reggae act Gyptian continues to sizzle this year as he now joins forces with the iconic Mary J. Blige. Gyptian will be breaking from his tour schedule to join the R&B queen on the England leg of her UK tour.
He takes the stage on November 2 at The O2 Arena in London, the same venue Michael Jackson was slated to headline for his infamous This Is It concert. Gyptian then heads with Blige to the LG Arena in Birmingham on November 3, before resuming his own tour. Gyptian has been touring consistently since releasing his current album Hold You this summer, even joining Damian 'Jr Gong' Marley and Nas on several dates of their recent Distant Relatives tour of the United States.
Gyptian can be heard on Blige's new single, Anything You Want, which is expected to be on her new album. The reggae-infused track also features Busta Rhymes and has been receiving steady airplay since its release in early September.
This exciting concert collaboration was secured by Planet Reggae, the new booking division of VP Records/Greensleeves Records.
"These are the opportunities that come about by having the #1 record label in reggae enter the live-touring business," states Neil Robertson, head of Planet Reggae. "Our brand lends credibility and comfort for the major international talent buyers. When you combine that with a great artiste like Gyptian and a manager like Ivor Ruddock, who both understand the bigger picture, you can expect more high profile opportunities which are good for the whole genre."
Gyptian has been heating up the UK scene recently, with his performance at BBC Radio 1Xtra Live in late September, and will return on October 20 for the MOBO Awards, where he's nominated for Reggae Artist of the Year.
The incident yesterday resulted in the deaths of all eight people on board the pilot and his seven passengers. All of them were Bahamian.
It was around 12:20 pm when the plane, which took off from the international airport in the capital and was headed to San Salvador in the southern part of the Bahamas, went down in Lake Killarney.
Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham extended condolences to the families and friends of the victims and promised a probe.
All relevant government agencies are lending their assistance in this tragic matter. Further, a thorough investigation of the crash will be conducted by the relevant authorities, he said.
The aircraft was registered to Acklins Blue Company, an air charter company based in the Bahamas.
