It's a Queens, New York thing, as Nicki Minaj nabs the # 6 slot on MTV's Hottest MC's In The Game list.

The
Young Money rapper lands one spot ahead of her boss, Lil Wayne and becomes the first female to ever grab a spot on the list.

Nicki's rise to the top of the game is simply amazing, when you consider the fact that she doesn't have an album or groundbreaking mixtape out.

Her buzz has been built around her animated looks and wordplay, as well as countless features, where she has often outshined the artists who's song she appears on.

One of her most impressive moments came on the
Kanye West track "Monster." Not only did Nicki hold her own against Yeezy, Officer Ross and Jay-Z, many will argue she had the best verse.

Nicki has shown she can also do it by herself, with the hit song "
Your Love.".

Her debut album '
Pink Friday' drops next month. It will be interesting to see if she can continue build on the momentum she has going so far.

Congrats to Nicki for making the list at # 6.
The saga...or story if you wish, of the life of Bounty Killer continues. Though not yet confirmed and because this article should have been posted in the roumerville page,.. Allegations are that Bounty Killer is getting married and of course if the allegations are true... one wonders who is the 'lucky' lady . Speculation have it that it could be Mumzel.. or Kadeen....or the recently hammerized/zapped chick
In any event, we wish Rodney Price all the best.

Wayne Rooney's future at Manchester United is yet to be determined after meetings were held between the club and the striker's representatives on Thursday.

"The outcome of those meetings will become clear in the near future," a United statement said. "In the meantime, fans are asked to be patient."

Some fans, though, staged a protest Thursday night outside Rooney's home in the village of Prestbury, south of Manchester.

"Police attended the scene and the group dispersed peacefully," police said. "No offenses were disclosed."

The Guardian newspaper website reported that one banner read "If you join City you're dead."

Rooney has told United he does not intend to extend his contract beyond the summer of 2012 because he is unhappy at the club's lack of ambition.

United manager Alex Ferguson met with the club's chief executive David Gill on Thursday, and both held talks with Rooney's representatives.

"We are aware that there is intense public and media interest on the club at the moment, but there are no developments of note to report."

Ferguson confirmed on Tuesday that Rooney told the club he wanted to quit Old Trafford, sparking intense media debate and speculation about where the England international's future lies.

That continued when Rooney released a statement on Wednesday, detailing his concerns with United's squad strength and claiming he had not been given any assurances by Gill about the club's future.

After United's Champions League victory over Bursaspor the same night, Ferguson said he was eager to see the issue resolved because the club did not want it to become a "saga."

United has been unable to do that but Ferguson is unlikely to welcome any further questions about Rooney in the coming days. United next plays on Sunday against Stoke.

Rooney is currently sidelined with an ankle injury sustained in training on Tuesday.

the word nigger came from one place, but in today's day n age it has more than one meaning. ignorance may have caused this but this new word "nigga" which goes among black ppl like a regular greeting, is it really that big a deal? its not like we are using it to descriminating against each other. there are many other words we(not just blacks) use daily that has a dark history, but most ppl or even a few past generations are ignorant of this. is that a bad thing or just "evolution of verbal communication"?

Where is the Clash for Sting 2010

October 23, 2010
Started By SVG4 Comments
Again Sting 2010 is around the corner and things are not picking up the way it should.. the basic rivalry is still there between the Gulliance and the Portmore Empire. Word out is that the Portmore Empire is taking steps to respond to some Gulliance attack some weeks ago. It is still not certain if the big wigs will be directly be involved in the confrontation because as we know Vybz Kartel is either afraid, doesn't have time for these no-names artiste and will not be getting the necessary boost from such persons-- He didn't clash with Bounty Killer last time round, so the statement still does not necessarily hold true though you can argue that Bounty was not big as Mavado at the time to generate a hype.
Other contenders are drawing the line -- recently merciless came from the darkness and was taunting Mad Cobra.. have not heard much about that since a few weeks ago. Then there is Kiprich going for a shot at Vybz Kartel.. with the Cake Soap Song  ..and it was reported that aspects of the Gaza fraternity was not fond of the swipe. We still waiting on whether they going to release Ninja Man - if not we will have to depend on the mix up with Busy Signal babymother, Kartel, ZJ Ice and Mrs. Shawty Palme

However, in a conversation with the Splash, wife, Linda Isaacs said her husband was not in a coma, but was in fact sleeping.
She did admit however, that "he is not good."
When pressed Isaacs' wife said "I can't make any comment," he's not well."

"I don't know just what will happen, but I do know that God can turn things around. My prayers are with Gregory."
Splash was not able to ascertain the exact nature of his illness.
Earlier this year, Gregory Isaacs' road manager Copeland Forbes stated that his charge was, "in the UK doing some medical tests. As you all know, he had some problems with his legs from last year which resulted in cancellation of tours, and in the last 12 months he had a very hectic year travelling all over the globe doing performances."
Isaacs has been a constant presence on the reggae music scene for some time. The singer has released a number of hits including Night Nurse, Tune In, My Number One, Love Overdue, Rumours and The Border.

BUSY SIGNAL: THE INTERVIEW!

October 18, 2010
Started By SVG5 Comments
Marvin Sparks caught up with Jamaican dancehall artist Busy Signal to discuss why he feels underrated, his reception in Europe compared with Jamaica, substance in dancehall music, what inspires his content and musical infulences, and whether he'll work with foe, Aidionia. All exclusively for The Wrap Up...
Busy_Loaded_Promo upper banner.jpg

Since his explosion on the dancehall scene with the anthem Step Out in 2005, Busy Signal has become one of the best-known and most respected dancehall acts internationally. Busy is what his friends used to call him based on his busy body never staying in one place when he snuck out of his house to attend parties with friends as a teenager against his mothers wishes. Signal was added to complete the stage name. July 2010 saw the release of his third album, D.O.B. which stands for Difference Of Busy Signal or the Dominance Of Busy Signal, aiming to showcase his class and his level as a dancehall artist that thinks outside of the box.

The Wrap Up: Sweet Love (Night Shift) and One More Night were the first two songs released from the album. Along with the well-received Automatic with Marcia Griffiths, this is a different sound for you in that they are one-drop/lovers rock tunes from a dancehall artist. Were you surprised by the reaction?
Busy Signal: Very surprised. When I was doing those songs, my engineers and the people around me were like, Busy, you are a dancehall artist doing these songs, people may look at you differently. I was really surprised that people accepted it and I can add it to my catalogue as something very good.
TWU: One More Night samples Phil Collins, the other Lionel Richie and The Commodores. Who would we be surprised to hear on your iPod?
Busy Signal: Im listening to Enya right now. Just trying to get inspiration from different types of music, so I just listen to a wide range.
TWU: In addition to dancehall and one-drop/lovers rock, youve incorporated different influences on the album such as Hispanic genres and soca/calypso
Busy Signal: The reason behind that is basically DOB; showing the difference and trying to get it out there. Im a dancehall artist, but I dont just do dancehall alone. I do music without a name to it. I try to fuse my culture with all these different types of music, trying to get people to relate to it in terms of their genres mixing with my genres.
TWU: There is a song on the album called My Money, however you havent been able to enter USA for years and recently weve seen other big name artists from Jamaica have their visas suspended for unclear reasons. How hard is it surviving without the US market?
Busy Signal: The USA is one of the big markets for dancehall, but the world is still open for music. I try to keep it musical, as in music that people will appreciate. Thats why I did One More Night and Night Shift. I do different tracks so people can listen all over mainland Europe, in the UK, in Japan, in Africa, all over the world, even Dubai. I have tours that I do in all of these places lined up where Im going to promote dancehall and reggae music, plus the music that I have. America is a wide place for hardcore dancehall, but other places are open for dancehall. Well at least some of the dancehall, stuff with substance and melody.
TWU: Where have you performed recently?
Busy Signal: Well I just came back from Guadeloupe. They speak French and the promoter told me this was the biggest concert for the year. All over the Caribbean, I've had shows in Spain, London, Amsterdam, we've got 8 shows in Africa and shows lined up in Dubai.
TWU: Do you have a favourite song to perform?
Busy Signal: All of them. Sometimes I'm surprised. Before Guadeloupe, we had the Uppsala Reggae Festival in Sweden, and Geel Reggae Festival in Belguim and it was crazy to see people singing along to the songs. Tracks like 'Hustlin,' 'Wine Pon Me,' 'Tie and Dye Face'. Its just crazy! Youve got 'Step Out' that people still go crazy for like its new.
TWU: Did you ever imagine 'Step Out' would have lasted this long?
Busy Signal: Never! 'Step Out' is like 5 years old and people treat it like its a new song. People have this song like its one of the anthems of dancehall and I really appreciate that.
TWU: How does performing in Europe compare with Jamaica?
Busy Signal: In Europe people appreciate your lyrics, work and stage performance more. I guess because they have it a lot in Jamaica they take it for granted. These people in Europe appreciate you more, they appreciate the interviews, autographs, meeting-and-greeting the fans and you being on stage. I have never been on a stage in Jamaica for an hour-and-a-half in my whole life, but Ive been on stage in Europe for hour-and-a-half to hour-and-forty-five minutes in Europe.
TWU: Why havent you been on many of the major riddims recently?
Busy Signal: I just choose not to be on the rat race stuff. If you notice, most of my beats are for me. I just have my musicians. The producers get a chance to expose themselves making music and tracks, and be producers. I have nothing to prove, nothing to be neck and neck with like ok, you have 20 songs on that riddim, and you have that one and those three that are the best. Nah, youve got just me. My producers just focus on pushing me.
TWU: What are your thoughts on dancehall at the moment; are you a fan?
Busy Signal: Some of them are good. Im not a fan of all of them. Just like we were talking about Step Out earlier, that is going to be around forever. Buju Banton has songs that can be played in parties for years to come. A lot of these songs right now are for the moment. Sometimes they do have a vibe. And not everybody could work Autotune. People should use it, but learn how to use it.
TWU: Some say that the substance has dropped in dancehall, others argue that it's a problem across the board in most genres. What do you stand on that?
Busy Signal: Yeah, its across the world. It isnt just dancehall, because I hear some hip-hop and I dont know what the hell it is. You have a lot of artists doing way better stuff, but I guess its about who puts the promotion behind that or sometimes kids tend to gravitate to stuff thats childish or thats like nursery rhyme. Kids play a big part in listening to this stuff. But at the same time the kids tend to be like What the hell was that I was listening to a month ago?" Its not just in Jamaica, its across the world. I hear the same stuff throughout hip hop and pop or whatever you call it.
TWU: Who do you rate?
Busy Signal: Of the newer artists I listen to Konshens, Demarco, Stephen 'Di Genius' McGregor is trying some stuff, Laden, youve got Romain Virgo on the reggae side. Assassin [Agent Sasco] is still doing stuff just to name a few. I-Octane also.
TWU: So the social-commentary/conscious aspect is important to you?
Busy Signal: Very important, because thats what we live by, thats whats around me, what I see in the economy, through the politics and what they are doing. Ive got to be the voice for the people, the less fortunate, and the people that may not have the chance to say anything in public. Weve got to see whats going on around us and put it into song form, so we can get it out there, so the people can relate and understand whats going on. We have to speak for the people. Thats important because we all are living in it, so Ive got to play my part and show people our point of view and take on this.
TWU: An example of your social-commentary is on the recently released video to Summn A Guh Gwaan, which features Bounty Killer. What inspired that?
Busy Signal: What was happening in Jamaica with the economy, even the airline - they sold Air Jamaica. It was so stressful. Jamaica was on top at the beginning of this year with Usian Bolt, Asafa Powell, Shelly-Ann Fraser and the rest of the Athletics team winning gold medals and music-wise. People were coming to Jamaica. And then now Jamaica just fell off because of the politicians and the corruption and all the stuff with the people getting extradited, state of emergency, so people had to be in their house by 6 oclock in the evening. It was so crazy in terms of the transition. I think we were robbed of our rights, because of the politicians and the corruption. It wasnt fair to the citizens, it has nothing to do with people or the music or sports, it was to do with the corruption. I was just going through that phase when I made that song. I made a song on Drakes Find Your Love beat called Whos To Blame?'
TWU: Bounty Killer was recently honoured at Reggae SumFest for his contribution to reggae/dancehall music. As a member in his camp, The Alliance, what impact has he had on your career?
Busy Signal: Ive been around him from before I was an artist. He taught me that if Im doing music, do it seriously, because music is one of the greatest methods of education. He taught me how to command a crowd on stage, how to deliver on stage and not to be shy. Just go out there and deliver the message in my own style, my lyrical content and my flow.
TWU: Do you feel underrated in the dancehall scene in Jamaica?
Busy Signal: In a lot of ways. Maybe its generated from many ways, because Im not willing to hustle out my music. Im not going to jump on every riddim, Im not going to do a show for every promoter, Im not going to regular out myself just to get a hype, and Im not going to be fighting down my own brother or competing. People like that stuff on a wide range. If you heard Busy Signal went out there and dissed or is clashing another artist, some people like that, but that doesnt last. That also has a dark side where people try to choose sides or drag you down. It will be like politics, but in music. People always say Im in a different class in terms of my respect in dancehall compared to other artists.
TWU: There has been a lot of unity recently; Vybz Kartel has called a truce with Mavado and Wayne Marshall, even Beenie Man and Bounty Killer are friends. I saw interview where a well-known foe, Aidonia, said hed work with you. Would you work with him?
Busy Signal: If its up to the standard of the music that I do, yeah. Ive raised the bar in my music over the years, I cant really stoop down. If its up to the quality of mine then no problem. It just has to be in the line of respect and quality of music that I do nowadays.
TWU: So theres no problem between you two?
Busy Signal: There was never a problem. He was trying to rise and doing it the old-fashioned way by calling up my name for hype and probably getting encouraged by people around him at the time. I dont even know him. I had a lot of different songs at the time and he was an artist trying to get exposure. Him and Vybz Kartel did songs calling my name, but I didnt pay it any attention. I dont have to call up peoples names to get exposure so Ive never done it. If they realise theyve done the wrong thing, its up to them.
Busy Signal: 'D.O.B' is out now.

Dead: 22 year old Omadevi Megbarran-Sarran

The news of -22-year old US based Guyanese Omadevi Megbarran-Sarans mysterious death on Saturday has left her family both shocked and confused.
At approximately 4:20am on Saturday morning police were called to the corner of Jamaica Avenue and 130th Street when passersby reported a car on fire at the location.

Dead: 22 year old Omadevi Megbarran-Sarran

After extinguishing the flames a body was discovered in the back seat of the burnt BMW 2000.
At 7:51am on Saturday morning Omadevis facebook status message was updated to read: Omadevi M. Sarran aka Annie is missing, anyone sees her contact her husband.
It is now believed that the body discovered in Queens is that of the missing young woman who was also two months pregnant when she died.
The young lady who lived with her husband in California was in New York visiting with her mother for a few days when she met her demise.
According to Naresh Megbarran, the young womans father, he was told by his wife on Friday that Omadevi had gone out and she had not returned home. Mr. Megbarran said that he tried to allay his wifes fears but he was worried himself, saying Omadevi was a good girl; she wouldnt stay out like that without telling anybody.
He noted that he was unable to get any answers from his wife as to when his daughter left her home, who she left with and where she was going since his wife was distraught with grief and was having a hard time explaining the details.
According to an article by the New York Daily News, authorities do not believe that the car crashed and burst into flames instead, the police said, it was intentionally set afire and they suspect that the fire was started to cover up foul play. The article stated that the car was registered to a man who lives in upstate Queensbury but it was not clear whether the vehicle had been stolen.
Omadevi, who grew up in Narine Street, Annandale, migrated to the US in 2006 and according to her father she had been working and studying there. Her father noted that when she discovered that she was pregnant, the young woman gave up school since she found the demands on her time were too stressful and fatiguing.
The investigation into the cause of Omadevis death is still underway.

Cham (born Damian Beckett on February 24, 1977) is a Grammy Award-nominated Jamaican recording artist, most well known for his 2006 single "Ghetto Story" from his major label debut album of the same name, a song which led to multiple "story" songs by other artists in a similar vein.[1] He is currently signed to Atlantic Records, and was previously known as Baby Cham, until 2005. He is still called "Baby Cham" by his Jamaican fans and fans from around the world.

The Miami New Times referred to Cham's 2000 debut album Wow... The Story as "the most anticipated album in years from any reggae artist," and a Washington Post review of a live Cham concert in 2006 described him as "the man who may be the next Sean Paul -- a dancehall artist who crosses over to the U.S. hip-hop market."[2][3]

Throughout his career, Cham has collaborated with many hip-hop and R&B artists such as Foxy Brown, Alicia Keys, Carl Thomas, Shawn Mims, Akon, and T-Pain.

19-y-o extorts $200,000 from teen?

October 15, 2010
Started By jubalson2 Comments

A 19-y-o graduate who allegedly tried to extort money from a 15-y-o student is now being investigated by the police. The younger boy is said to have been threatened and told he would be beaten if he failed to make payments.

The man, Delmar Williams, is accused of extorting at least $200,000 from the Corporate Area high-school student, who told the police that he was so scared that he used his mother's bank card to withdraw money on a number of occasions over a four-month period from 2009.

It is further being alleged that on one occasion, the student was contacted via cellular phone and after a conversation during which he was ordered to make a payment of more than $10,000, another man joined in on the act and also put in his demand of $25,000 before threatening to visit the teen's home and attacking him.

sting operation

A source from the Area Four police told THE WEEKEND STAR that the boy eventually told his parents about the situation.

The police were subsequently alerted and a sting operation was set up during which the alleged extortionist was caught red-handed as he turned up to collect money from the boy. He was subsequently arrested and following intense investigations was charged with obtaining money by menace.

The matter was brought up in the Corporate Area Resident Court on Wednesday.

Police sources told THE WEEKEND STAR that Williams' attorney denied the allegations, claiming his client was only collecting money owed to him. The attorney claimed his client gave money to the youngster to purchase a cellular phone which was not delivered.

Citing the safety of the high-school student as a concern, Williams was denied bail and is to return to court on October 28, when the case will be mentioned.

It was originally speculated that Myrna would receive a $170 million settlement, but the source says she got much more a whopping $400 million. That would be the fifth-largest divorce payout EVER!

Morgan who won an Oscar for Million Dollar Baby and Oscar nominations for The Shawshank Redemption, Driving Miss Daisy and Street Smart is the seventh-highest grossing actor of all time. His movies have brought in an estimated $2.79 billion worldwide.

Flour prices go up today

October 18, 2010
Started By jubalson2 Comments

JAMAICANS will, as of today, be digging deeper into their pockets to purchase flour.

The Jamaica Flour Mills Limited, in a release Friday, said a 45-kilogramme bag of baking flour will now be sold for $2,600, up from $2,325, an 11.8 per cent increase, while a bag of counter flour will be sold for $2,350, up from $1,995, a 17.8 per cent increase. A bag of counter-plus flour will be sold for $2,250, up from $1,930, a 16.6 per cent increase.

It was, however, not clear up to Friday what level of increases the island's bakers will be putting on the prices of bread, buns, biscuits and other products. Immediate past president of the Jamaica Bakers' Association, Gerry Chambers, said bakers were not prepared to handle increased costs at this time.

Jamaica Flour Mills, a member of the Archer Daniels Midland Group, said the primary reason for the price hike was the increased demand on wheat supplies from Canada and the United States of America due to adverse weather conditions, mainly in Europe, and the potential loss of inventory in Asia.

The Consumer Affairs Commission, in a statement last Thursday, advised that the price increases were as a result of natural disasters and other external situations being experienced by key international producers, which had placed pressure on wheat supplies. These, it said, included:

* the late wheat crop in Canada and the United States -- which affected supplies of wheat for counter flour;

* the extended drought and fires in Russia, which had a negative impact on wheat supply for bakery flour; and

* an expected increase in the demand for wheat by India, which is the largest net importer of that product.

The CAC said that based on its calculations the increase by the Jamaica Flour Mills was likely to result in a six to eight per cent movement in the price of baked products, such as bread and water crackers.

VendorsRemovalA20101014RM.jpg

Some 48 persons have been detained and a Bushmaster rifle seized in the downtown market district and West Kingston area following a flare up of violence and a police operation which saw several stalls being destroyed and over 300 illegal connections dismantled.

The police operation to clean up downtown by demolishing vending stall illegally placed in the area, was put into effect at 1:00 am Thursday morning, the same time a curfew blanketed nearby Denham and Hannah Town.

By 4:00 am when the Heywood Street stall owners started emerging, it was clear that it would be an ugly day.

They reacted when they saw that what was once their livelihood had been reduced to rubble. Vendors complained of losses in the hundreds of thousands of dollars said they were not illegal as they had paid their fees of $2,500 to register and $500 weekly for market fees. Many said they were not informed of the planned clean-up. However, the police say notices had been sent out.

Amidst a strong police presence, vendors who sell on West Queen and Princess Streets decided to march to the offices of the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC), but the cops would have none of it. In between strong words of condemnation for Prime Minister Bruce Golding (Bruce ginnal we) and Mayor of Kingston Desmond McKenzie, they then decided that the storeowners should not be allowed to open their shops either. The displaced vendors started banging on shutters shouting no vendors, no store. The police again intervened.
The Constabulary Communication Network says the police estimated that about 10 tonnes of debris and other material were cleared from the streets. Jamaica Public Service Company work crews also disconnected 330 illegal connections.

Meanwhile, the vendors, who have been demanding to know where they will be placed, are to meet with Mayor Desmond McKenzie at noon today at the offices of the KSAC.

McKenzie is reported as saying that he was not a part of the early planning of the clean-up operation.

The curfew remains in effect unti Saturday morning. The boundaries of the curfew are:
NORTH along Asquith Street on to Studley Park Road between East and Slipe Pen roads
SOUTH along Barry Street from Darling Street to Church Street
EAST along Slipe Pen Road on to North Street to Church Street continue to Barry Street
WEST along Darling Street on to Spanish Town Road continue on to Little King Street to East Road.

Guyana's parliament has voted to abolish the mandatory death penalty for people convicted of murder unless they have killed members of the security forces or the judiciary.

Lawyers for some 40 death row inmates yesterday appealed to officials to commute their sentences after Thursday's National Assembly vote in the South American nation.

"We are asking for them, in light of what they have just done, to look at those prisoners there and remove their sentences, to remove them from death row," opposition spokeswoman for legal affairs, Clarissa Riehl, told reporters.

The 65-seat assembly agreed to retain a mandatory death penalty for people convicted of murdering law enforcement officials, prison officers, and members of the judiciary.

Riehl, from the opposition People's National Congress Reform, said those who have been waiting on death row for more than 10 years should have their sentences commuted to life imprisonment.

"Give them a life-term or see how many years they have been on death row and give them a number of years and then let them out of the prison," said Riehl, a lawyer.

Several leading Western nations have called on the former British colony to abolish the death penalty and scrap laws against homosexuality and corporal punishment.

The mandatory death penalty for murder and treason had been inherited from Britain at the time of independence in 1966 and had remained law for more than 100 years in Guyana.

Congratulations are in order for Alicia Keys and her husband, Swizz Beatz. Keys gave birth to the couple's first child, a little boy they have named Egypt Dean.

The proud new father expressed his excitement about the arrival on his Twitter page: "I'm so thankful for everything I been blessed with in my life wowwwwww," he wrote. Keys gave birth at New York's St Luke's Roosevelt Hospital late Thursday night. Keys married the 32-year-old rap producer, real name Kaseem Dean, July 31, shortly after announcing that they were expecting.

The-Beatz_w370.jpg

The nuptials were held in Corsica in front of close friends including Queen Latifah and U2 rocker Bono, and presided over by Deepak Chopra. The couple met when they collaborated to write and produce Million Dollar Baby for Whitney Houston's seventh studio album, I Look To You. When they met Beatz was still married to his first wife, Mashonda. They went public as a couple in May 2009, and Beatz has emphatically denied that their relationship had anything to do with the break-up of his marriage. He recently spoke of his love for 29-year-old Keys, saying that he felt "blessed" to be married to her. "It's a blessing, I look at my relationship with my wife as a union that's just connected... spiritually. I'm a better man. I think that having love in your life has that effect, because then you spread love. You can't enjoy love without spreading it." he told MTV.com. Although Egypt is the first child for the couple, Beatz has three other children from previous relationships, two sons, Prince Nasir Dean, 10, Kasseem Dean Jr, four and a one-year-old daughter.

t least 40 hurt, one killed in bus crash

SHELDON WILLIAMS,STAR WRITER

At least 40 persons were injured and another killed last night after a Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) bus transporting churchgoers, overturned along the Faiths Pen main road in St Ann.

Those injured in the accident were taken to the St Ann's Bay and Linstead hospitals for treatment.

Up to press time late last night, the identity of the person killed was not known. There were also concerns that other persons might have been killed, but were trapped under the bus.

Corporate Communications Manager of the JUTC, Reginald Allen, who was present at the scene of the accident, told THE STAR that, "we are examining the possibilities that other persons are lying under the bus."

accident

The accident occurred at around 8:45 p.m.

It was believed that there might have been approximately 54 persons, including the driver, aboard the bus at the time when it overturned and fell into a ditch.

Allen also told THE STAR that the accident might have occurred as the bus tried to negotiate a corner.

"It involved negotiating a corner and the road was wet,"Allen explained.

It was reported that the JUTC bus was transporting members of the Bayside New Testament Church of God from Portmore in St Catherine to a retreat at the Moneague College at the time of the accident.

The bus is said to have been one of four JUTC buses chartered for the retreat.

However, at the time of the accident, the other three had not yet started out on the journey.

ATLANTA A Georgia woman is suing Tyra Banks for $3 million after she said her 15-year-old daughter appeared without her permission on an episode of Banks' talk show about teen sex addicts.

In a lawsuit filed October 8 in federal court in Atlanta, Beverly McClendon claims the show contacted the teen on her cell phone after she responded to a request on the show's website seeking "sex addicts". The girl was then picked up from her home in Georgia in a limo and flown to New York, where she was put up in a hotel, all without her mother's knowledge, the lawsuit says.

McClendon filed a missing person report with local police when she realised her daughter was gone. The teen has never been diagnosed as a sex addict, the lawsuit says.

The lawsuit also names Warner Bros Entertainment and the executive producers of the show as defendants.

McClendon says her daughter suffered damages because the 2009 show "was undoubtedly watched by sexual deviants, perverts and paedophiles."

The lawsuit seeks a jury trial and asks for $1 million in compensatory damages and $2 million in punitive damages. It also asks the court to bar the episode from ever being aired again on television or online.

Warner Bros Television Group spokesman, Scott Rowe, said Sunday that the company had no comment. Banks' publicist, agent and lawyer did not immediately return calls Sunday seeking comment.

The show violated McClendon's right to privacy by putting her daughter, who was a minor, on television without McClendon's permission, the lawsuit claims.

The lawsuit also claims negligence, saying the teen was paid for her appearance but that the show didn't get permission from the labour commissioner to employ her and didn't get McClendon's permission before paying the girl to fly to New York, stay in a hotel alone and appear on the show.

It's really sad and frightening to see that we young people are completely losing our form of judgement. It seems to me that we are no longer using our brain to think for oursleves but instead we have the media and celebrities thiking for us.

No longer do we separate our love and appreciation for our idols and still manage to use our intellect to make wise discisions. Instead we bow and kneel to the f u c k ed up beliefs of our idols.

It's a scary fact and our generation is doomed!

Shout out to the MEDIA BRAINWASHERS who have managed to brain wash young people but I'm one of the few that will not go against my judgements and beliefs because you preach   f u c kery! lc

I don't care who gets offended by this post  because if you are offended then you are one of the brain washed individuals! -Deuces-

Say male counterparts need to back off

'Enough is enough', seems to be the shout from Macka Diamond, ZJ Sparks and an entourage of female dancers that include dancehall notables Mad Michelle, former Portmore Dancehall Queen, Latisha, Mystic and Mumzel.

In a song titled Too Much Bull, the message they are sending is clear; male dancers need to step aside and give the females a chance.

"It's just what it is," said dancer-turned-recording-artiste, Mystic, with a giggle.

"Look at the DVDs, look at the videos, look at the parties, everywhere you go di man dem tek ova di ting like a fi dem sitten, so we just decided to do a song and address it. We not trying to cause any controversy, we are just calling a spade a spade," said Mystic.

Mad Michelle was also in agreement saying, "A long time mi a party, an di man dem a gwaan bad, dem all a try 'outwine' di woman dem, so da one yah name, slow dung."

Macka Diamond was also in full agreement and is looking forward to the reaction from her male counterparts.

"It's all fun for me, although it's the truth, but I want to see if this song will bring about any change, because the woman dem a complain," she joked.

Too Much Bull is a Loud Disturbance production and the video for the song was shot last Sunday by director Robin Chin at various spots across Kingston. The video is set to hit television screens next week.

Randy Jackson with his brother Michael Jackson

Randy Jackson, the second youngest of the Jackson clan, was upset to find out that his parents, Joseph and Katherine Jackson, were being interviewed by Oprah Winfrey in the family home.

He claims that Michael wouldnt have approved of the interview.

Like all other people in 2010, Randy chose to vent his frustrations and anger in a series of posts on Twitter.

I know [everyone] wants to know my position on the Oprah interview. [First] let me say that I love my mother and father. I am humbly grateful to have them as my parents, but I dont always agree with the choices they make. this is [one] of those times.

[I] found out Oprah was at our family home, my stomach ached and it still hasnt gone away. I had no prior knowledge this was going to happen. It was deliberately kept from me because they knew I would have tried to stop it. I know how Oprah feels about my brother and family. I also know that he would not have wanted this. In fact, she is the last person on earth he would want around his children.

I can never forget when she had the show on pedophilia during the jury deliberation process in my brothers Santa Maria case. That was no coincidence. I know there are a lot of you out there upset and angry over this. I dont blame you. Can you imagine how I feel? Im angry too

Let our anger be the fuel that ignites our desire for truth, and keeps us unified on the road to justice for [Michael]. I will continue to do my best with my family. All I need is your love and support. I will never give up.

Randy has been using his Twitter account (@RandyJackson8) mostly to vent about developments in the many legal situations surrounding the death of Michael Jackson.

machel%20montana2.jpg

With Carnival season coming around the corner, many partygoers are hoping for the return of soca star Machel Montano on stage.

But Montano says he is still contemplating his return to the spotlight during the 2011 season.

I am coming to realise when I focus on what I have to do, its hard to do Carnival and do that at the same time, he told Newsday yesterday, just after wrapping up the taping of a b-mobile ad on location on Independence Square.

Montano was referring to his continuous efforts to spread soca music on a global level. He said he has been talking to international producers.

The process is going to take a while but I have made progress but it will take many, many years, he said. Its difficult for me to half step. I cant do Carnival half way. His last full-fledged Carnival season was in 2009 and his appearance at the party recently hosted by Angostura Ltd at Queens Park Oval may have hinted his return to the spotlight.

But Montano said if he plans to take on Carnival next year, his appearances will be selective.

He was also in praise of Government for its policy on culture. He said over the last two weeks presentations were made on his behalf to the Prime Minister, Minister of Sports Anil Roberts, Minister of Multi-culturalism Winston Peters and Minister of Works Jack Warner.

I got favourable response. There is light in the tunnel, he said.

He said one of the topics was the use of the Hasley Crawford Stadium as a cultural venue for shows like his as well as the International Soca Monarch finals.

He said last years decision not to use stadium as a venue for the latter event was a retrograde step, keeping in mind that Wembley Stadium in England and the SuperBowl stadiums in the United States are also used for entertainment.

Chad and Barbie Soper just had their third child, Cearra, at Butterworth, born on 10/10/2010. The oddity is their other two children Chloe was born 8/8/2008 and Cameron, 9/9/2009. T.J. Hamilton | The Grand Rapids Press

GRAND RAPIDS -- For Chad and Barbie Soper, it's all in the numbers.

A triple-dose of rare birth dates for their three children, who were born on 8/8/2008, 9/9/2009 and 10/10/2010.

The Rockford couple's good fortune, capped with Sunday's birth of their daughter, Cearra Nicole, has led to a crush of national and local media attention for the young family.

They plan to appear Saturday morning on NBC's Today Show, already were featured in a USA Today article and the news show Inside Edition has expressed interest in their story.

"It's going crazy," Barbie Soper said Thursday from her home. "I had no idea. I didn't know if you do one little local TV thing, it can go national."

Soper often is asked whether she planned or somehow manipulated the birth dates. The answer is no, sort of.

Her first child, Chloe Corrin, arrived exactly on the couple's due date. But the second child, Cameron Dane, was born with induced labor, a week-and-a-half before her Sept. 20 due date.

Her doctor, Andrew Van Slooten, wanted the child to come early because of hemorrhaging that happened when Chloe was born. The idea was to deliver the baby at slightly smaller than term to prevent complications.

And as the birth of Cearra neared this month, the doctor made the same decision because of issues with vericose veins and *la*hd clots. Barbie Soper was induced Oct. 9, ahead of her Nov. 4 due date.

"At some point, probably 20 weeks into the pregnancy, we decided it was better for her to deliver early," Van Slooten said.

"There is this window we had. We definitely had the option to shoot for that (Oct. 10) day and did," he said. "But it wasn't like delivering her three weeks early just to hit that date."

In 17 years of practice, delivering hundreds of babies, Van Slooten cannot recall any birth-related coincidences that rival that of the Sopers.

"I've had nothing at all like this," he said.

Van Slooten delivered all three of the Soper children, all at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital.

Barbie Soper, 36, admits she hoped the joyous moment would happen Oct. 10 and not a day earlier, but there were no guarantees. She's excited about her children's unique birth dates.

"It's fun to have the numbers. I didn't ever expect it," she said. "And they all get to share in it."

Barbie Soper is no stranger to hospitals -- she's a nurse who often works in operating rooms, helping other staff.

Chad Soper, 38, works for AT&T.

The couple, high school sweethearts at Rockford High School, married 10 years ago but waited to have a family.

For his part, Chad Soper said he's simply happy to have three healthy children.

"I'm having a blast. I'm really enjoying them. It's kind of the missing piece to our lives," he said.

So, what's ahead for the fortuitous couple? Perhaps trying to stretch their luck for another family addition on Nov. 11, 2011?

Not a chance, both say.

"Definitely no," Barbie Soper said. "With the health problems, no. We wanted three and I'm glad we have that."

Ten persons are still in the hospital suffering from serious injuries following the tragic Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) accident on Friday.

The JUTC bus
carrying a church group to a retreat had plunged into a precipice in Faith's Pen, St Ann. The accident left a 16-year-old Bridgeport High School student dead and 40 persons injured.

The unauthorised driver who fled the scene after the incident has since turned himself in to the Spanish Town police with a broken leg and has been charged with vehicular manslaughter.

When THE STAR spoke to Rev Dr W. A. Blair, pastor of Faith New Testament Church of God, in Bayside, Portmore, he said: "I do not like the conditions that I am seeing of the 10 persons that remain in hospital, most of them have head and chest bruises, head wounds and bruises all over their bodies."

He said of the 10 injured persons, six of them were in the St Ann's Bay Hospital while the other four were at the Spanish Town Hospital. "We are thankful to God that despite their injuries they are coming on. It's amazing and a blessing that they are doing so well," Blair said.

legal action

However, when THE STAR asked the pastor if they are looking into taking legal action against the bus company he said he was now focusing on the well-being of his members at this time, and would have to meet with the injured to really see what happened.

In the meantime, the Transport Minister, Mike Henry, has so far ordered a preliminary report of the accident "so that blame and responsibility in the wider sense can be squarely laid where appropriate, as the entire JUTC has come under intense negative focus possibly because of the folly of two grown men," the minister said.

When THE STAR asked the JUTC corporate communication manager, Reginald Allen, yesterday if the company is worried about any possible legal action from the church he reasoned: "At this time I cannot speak to that as we are focusing on the humanitarian aspect, since Friday, we have been focusing on their injuries and suffering and today senior management will be meeting to look into the implications and options going forward."

Man jailed for $100,000 lunch bill a

CRYSTAL HARRISON, STAR Writer

A Corporate Area restaurant owner who thought she was getting good business was bitterly disappointed when she found out that after preparing $100,000 worth of boxed lunches for a man in a day, it was merely a labour in vain.

It is alleged that on October 8, a man from Duke Street, Kingston, went to the restaurant and ordered $100,000 worth of boxed lunches and juices.

It is also alleged that the ambitious man did not only make a plain order for lunches and juices, but that he was peculiar and meticulous about his orders.

A source told THE STAR that: "The man ordered some fish lunches and he told the woman he wants fish, and not just any type of fish ... he didn't want sliced fish but whole fish and that he wanted snapper and not pond fish or what most people call fresh-water fish."

It is further alleged that the woman laboured from the day straight through the night in an effort to complete the order. "He told the woman that he wanted cranberry, natural juices, instead of box drinks," the source said.

After the woman completed the order it was alleged that the man tendered a $100,000 cheque to the woman. However, when she went to the bank it was revealed that the cheque was fake.

The man was later apprehended after he reportedly chartered a cab whose driver the complainant knew. It is alleged the taxi operator after learning of the incident later carried the police to the address where he had dropped off the man. The woman confirmed the man at the address was the alleged 'con man'.

When contacted by THE STAR the Kingston Eastern police confirmed the incident and revealed that the man is in custody and is to be charged with obtaining credit by fraud.

The Jamaica Forum for Lesbians, All-sexuals and Gays (J-FLAG) has acknowledged that Vybz Kartel's signature affixed to the Reggae Compassionate Act is a step in the right direction of the dancehall artiste claiming responsibility for his music.

However, Dane Lewis, executive director of J-FLAG, said the next step is to hold artistes accountable for their lyrics.

"Considering what the act calls for, this is a step, as long as the signature is not just a token.

"Signing the act is one thing, but it's important to stand up for it."

The Reggae Compassionate Act was drafted in 2007 as part of the Stop Murder Music campaign, a human-rights groups coalition, which advocates for lesbians, gays, bisexuals and trans-identified persons.

The act speaks to positive social changes and upholding the rights of all individuals regardless of ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion or gender.

Take responsibility

News reports circulating online claim that Vybz Kartel, whose real name is Adidjah Palmer, signed the Reggae Compassionate Act late September, just days before he was set to perform in France.

Kartel would not confirm the details but questioned why there was a brouhaha over his signing the document.

"Yes, I did. What's the big deal? So what if I did?" he asked before hanging up the phone.

Lewis said the 'big deal' is to make sure performers adhere to the act's strictures.

"Artistes should be aware of the influence their music could have on society," Lewis said.

According to the J-FLAG executive director, there were approximately 400 cases reported since January involving hate crimes against persons who identify with the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.

"They range from raping lesbians to physical assault," Lewis noted.

He also recounted an incident when a person was killed in a dance hall as Buju Banton's controversial anti-gay anthem, Boom Bye Bye, was played.

Jamaican dancehall artistes such as Buju Banton, Beenie Man, Sizzla and Capleton have been chastised for several years by LGBT groups in North America and Europe for their anti-gay lyrics.

We are in an age where there is more "entertainment" but we are being less and less entertained by the many forms of entertainment we choose. Many people turn to a lot of things to reach life's climax:- attention seeking, a real sexual orgasm or financial orgasm.
What makes you cum?

Attention seeking:- via facebook, myspace, hi5, dressing sexy not for yourself but for the attention of others, doing something outside of "your norm" to be a part of the in crowd.

Sexual orgasm:- Do you get a high from sex so much so that you dont mind if its a man or woman?

Financial orgasm:- Does money do it for you? If money does it for you what do you do to get this money?

16"Are you still so dull?" Jesus asked them. 17"Don't you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? 18But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man 'unclean.' 19For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20These are what make a man 'unclean'; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him 'unclean.' "

Does your spirit need sex, attention and money to cum?
The things we do everyday are spiritual feedings, the experimental sex with a person of the same sex, the lies we tell are all foods we feed our spirit. So do you want to cum or do you want do be fed?

(Oct. 18) -- Perhaps the president can add this one to his list of myths to bust in December when he appears on the Discovery Channel show "MythBusters": His father was not killed in a car accident in 1982, as was reported, but was murdered.

So goes a family theory investigated by Peter Firstbrook in his history of President Barack Obama's African side of the family, "The Obamas," and dissected by Obama biographer David Remnick in a post today on the New Yorker's website

Barack Obama Sr. was "a thwarted politician and bureaucrat," outspoken in his criticism of the Kenyan government's acceptance of corruption among its ranks, according to Remnick.

He was also a heavy drinker, nicknamed "Mr. Double-Double" after his usual Scotch orders. On the night of his death he was found inside his car, which had hit a tree.

Firstbrook talked to Charles Oluoch, a cousin of the president, who related the family's suspicions. Obama Sr. had been in a number of accidents before and had survived them all. His body appeared to be fairly unharmed -- no broken bones and only a small amount of *la*hd.

"Although it looked like an accident, our family suspected that there must have been foul play. I am not a medical doctor, but the way we saw Barack lying there, he didn't look like somebody who was involved in an accident," Oluoch said.

Sarah Obama, the president's step-grandmother, told the author a similar story.

"We think there was foul play there, and that is how he died, and they covered it up [by saying] that he had an accident," she said. "But we just had to leave it like that because the government then was very ruthless."

Remnick talked to Caroline Elkins, a historian at Harvard, who said she doesn't buy it. Obama Sr. was a "serious, fall-down alcoholic" and his family is probably trying to restore his reputation now that they have one of their own in White House, she said.

But as Firstbrook points out 25 years later, we will probably never know the truth ...

Parents call for ban on Vybz Kartel performance

Question new parliamentarians

PHILIPSBURG--The number of parents who have been contacting The Daily Herald with concerns about the Jamaican singer Vybz Kartel's concert scheduled to be held at the St. Maarten Festival Village at the end of October is growing by the day.

The popular yet controversial dancehall star is scheduled to perform on October 30. His shows typically are not mild in nature, with profanity and insult a large part of his style of dancehall.

Kartel has been banned from performing in certain other Caribbean countries due to the extremity of his music lyrics and the effect they have been having on the youths of those countries. Kartel has been banned so far by Grenada, Guyana, Barbados and, most recently, by St. Lucia.

St. Maarten parents have questioned why government would award a permit to organisers to stage a show with an artist banned in other Caribbean destinations. Moreover, they pointed to the "Gaza" crew to which Kartel is allegedly connected, which has been dubbed a "criminal gang" in Jamaica.

The birth of "Gaza" and "Gully" crews in Jamaica came about as a by-product of a feud between Kartel and another dancehall artist "Mavado," with the latter claiming to be part of the "Gully" gang.

Jamaican authorities decided to take a closer look at the so-called Gaza-Gully feud after it started spreading in schools and taking over communities in Jamaica. However, Kartel and Mavado publicly described their feud as entertainment, with Kartel saying he couldn't be held responsible for what people did with his music.

Parents in St. Maarten also chided the promoters for not having an age limit for the show and government for not requiring an age limit for entrance. Additionally, parents pointed out that one of the main attractions for the show was an appearance by working girls of the Bada Bing strip club.

The promoters reportedly have been selling the show as "clean," stating that an agreement is in place with Kartel to keep the show clean.

"How clean will a show be with strippers on parade?" one parent asked. "The last time women from these clubs were out in public they embar****ed a local telephone company. Is it even legal for them to perform or appear anywhere outside of the establishment?"

"What are we coming to in this community? When do we say enough is enough? You can say we have a role as parents, but you have a role as government as well. You have to stop certain elements from entering this island and further influencing our youth," resident Joshua Henry said. "So all the new parliamentarians who talk about our youth, this is your time to deliver and not just deliver nice words. That performer should be banned from St. Maarten as well."

Promoters of the event could not be reached on Tuesday.

Curvy Gemma Jones, 25, last night told how the Olympics icon wooed her on TWITTER, sent her a snap of himself in his PANTS, then ROMPED with her at a London hotel.

Afterwards the superstar begged her for a foursome.

Gemma, who turned the randy sprint king down, said: "He certainly keeps up a good pace in bed.

"But I suppose that's not surprising as he's the fastest man in the world."

She had no idea a fellow Brit was Bolt's long-term lover until South East London barmaid Rebeckah Passley, 23, told in The Sun how he dumped her just a few weeks ago.

Rebeckah spent a year thinking she was the only girl in the Jamaican hero's life after he chatted her up at an athletics event.

Last night Gemma accused bedhopping Bolt, 24 - who holds the 100metres world record - of leaving her "heartbroken" too.

The pair "tweeted" via the internet for months before he invited her to his hotel in Mayfair on September 2 while in London plugging his book.

Gemma said: "It sounds like he had a girl in every city. I feel cheated."

Describing their romp, she said: "I wasn't wearing anything remotely sexy - leggings, a cardigan and grey boots.

"He seemed to find it a massive turn-on. He's a very good lover - I give him eight out of ten.

"He kept telling me how much he loved my bum. He's got a great athletic body, but he's average size in the trouser department."

Afterwards they showered together. Gemma said: "He told me all about Jamaica and I told him about Swindon.

"He asked me if the shopping was good in Swindon and I told him it wasn't great.

"Once he heard that he seemed to lose interest in Swindon."

Bolt, who invited her to spend Christmas with him in Jamaica, has since bombarded her with raunchy messages using his Blackberry phone.

Gemma said: "He asked me for a threesome and for a foursome. I'm not into that sort of thing and told him, 'No way'."

Last night shattered barmaid Rebeckah broke down sobbing as she said: "I don't want to say any more."

Word buzzing through the streets of Atlanta is that rapper Missy Elliot and her girlfriend Saraya have decided to TIE THE KNOT (in an informal ceremony, of course).

According to our insider, Missy and Saraya just came back from a WORLD TOUR. During the trip, the two ladies grew closer together. And upon return to the U.S., they tied the knot.
