In the soap opera that has become Eva Longoria's life, we can now cast "the other woman."

According to TMZ.com, Longoria's husband -- Tony Parker -- was carrying on an affair with Erin Barry, the wife of San Antonio Spur Brent Barry. The Barrys are reportedly in the middle of a divorce and TMZ managed to snag an interview with Barry's father, NBA Hall of Famer Rick Barry, who said:

"I feel horrible for my son. I'm in shock. I knew [Erin] was moving out of the house soon and SHE was the one that filed for divorce. This is the straw that broke the camel's back."
Rick added, "[Brent] is going to be devastated. I can't even imagine him going through this ... the divorce was hard enough news."

Longoria filed for divorce on Wednesday after, according to Extra, the actress found hundreds of text messages from Barry on Parker's phone.

"Eva wants everyone to know, she's devastated by the rumors of Tony's infidelity. She loved her husband and is heartbroken about their split," said Longoria pal Mario Lopez. "But she's strong."

Longoria confirmed news of the divorce on Twitter, writing "It is with great sadness that after 7 years together, Tony and I have decided to divorce. We love each other deeply and pray for each other's happiness."

kendallgibsonvirginiainmate1273390432.jpgRICHMOND, Va. (AP) Several Rastafarian and other inmates in Virginia who had been held in isolation for refusing to cut their hair are being moved to a prison where they can live together.

The Virginia Department of Corrections confirmed Wednesday that 31 inmates have been transferred to Keen Mountain State Prison in southwest Virginia.

Some Rastafarian inmates have been held in isolation since 1999 for refusing to cut their hair because of their religious beliefs. The Associated Press reported in June that nearly 50 inmates were being isolated because of the policy.
Department spokesman Larry Traylor says the change was made to better manage bed space.

Traylor says that while the inmates will be housed two to a cell, they will not have all the privileges of inmates in the general population.

Kris Kross
was an American teenage rap duo of the early 1990s comprising Chris "Mac Daddy" Kelly and Chris "Daddy Mac" Smith. The duo are best known for their 1992 hit "Jump", which was #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks and was certified double platinum as a single. They were also known for their fashion styling, which consisted of wearing their clothes backwards.

Atlanta natives Kelly (born August 11, 1978) and Smith (born January 10, 1979) were childhood friends, discovered in 1990 by 18-year-old Jermaine Dupri at an Atlanta shopping mall.[1][2] Dupri thought the two "looked like a rap group"[citation needed] and proceeded to groom them as such.

Their Dupri-produced debut album, Totally Krossed Out, was released in 1992 and sold four million copies in the US. It included the hit single "Jump", which topped the Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks.

The duo landed a spot on Michael Jackson's 1992 Dangerous World Tour, as well as a cameo appearance on Jackson's "Jam" music video. In addition to this, they also made appearances in the music videos for Run-D.M.C.'s "Down with the King" and TLC's "Hat 2 Da Back". They were also featured in an episode of A Different World.

In 1992, a video game directed by Denis Dyack was released starring the pair titled Kris Kross: Make My Video. It was released on the Sega CD system, and consisted of the player editing together the group's music videos to a few of their hit songsusing portions of the original music videos, stock footage, and general video animation effects. Players were prompted before each edit session to make sure to have certain footage compiled into the video. The game was released only in the United States to poor sales figures and dismal reviews. It was ranked 18th on Electronic Gaming Monthly's list of the "20 Worst Games of All Time".[3]

Kris Kross made a cameo appearance in Ted Demme's 1993 film Who's the Man?, which starred Ed Lover and Doctor Dré of Yo! MTV Raps fame.

Their second album, Da Bomb (1993), was certified platinum, and spawned the hit "Alright", although it failed to match their earlier success. Most of their songs had been directed at rivals Da Youngstas, Illegal and Another Bad Creation. A third album, Young, Rich & Dangerous, was released in early 1996 and was certified gold. It spawned the two hits "Tonite's tha Night" and "Live and Die for Hip Hop". Following its run, the duo disappeared from the public eye.

The duo were rumored to be reuniting in 2007.[4] Smith recorded a solo album, Urbane Expressions, but it was not released. Kelly organized his own label called C.co records.

A 23-year-old British man died from what the coroner said was a dangerous dose of caffeine, according to British media reports. Information from the coroner's inquest revealed that Michael Lee Bedford ingested two spoonfuls of pure caffeine powder that he washed down with an energy drink. Coroner Dr. Nigel Chapman said the dose Bedford consumed was equivalent to 70 cans of Red Bull.

"This should serve as a warning that caffeine is so freely available on the Internet but so lethal if the wrong dosage is taken," Chapman said at the inquest.

A warning label on the product said only one-sixteenth of a teaspoon should be taken, but Bedford far exceeded that amount.

"He wasn't doing anything wrong, it was just the danger of the dose he took," said Chapman.

A Mississippi man who drifted through several states after he was declared dead in 1994 will be charged with murder in the slaying of a 12-year-old Las Vegas girl whose body was found by hunters in remote Louisiana woods, authorities said Wednesday.

Thomas Steven Sanders is scheduled to face a federal magistrate Friday at a detention hearing in Alexandria, La., on a kidnapping charge. Sheriff James Kelly in Louisiana's central Catahoula Parish, where the girl's body was discovered last month, said his department will charge Sanders with first-degree murder once federal prosecutors finish processing him on the kidnapping charge.

Federal prosecutors had charged Sanders with kidnapping Lexis Roberts after his arrest Sunday at a Gulfport, Miss., truckstop. Sanders was transferred to Louisiana the next day. Sheriff's Investigator Toney Edwards in Catahoula Parish said authorities there expect to book Sanders early next week.

Lexis Roberts' body was found off a dirt road Oct. 8. She had been shot, Edwards said. Authorities said security cameras showed Sanders buying ammunition Sept. 3 at a Walmart in Las Vegas and the bullets were consistent with the weapon used to kill Lexis.

Sanders, 53, also is a suspect in the disappearance of the girl's mother, 31-year-old Suellen Roberts, who is now presumed dead, according to officials.

Authorities said remains found Monday in northwestern Arizona's Yavapai County are likely those of the girl's mother.

It could take a week for officials to positively identify the body through dental records and other means, Yavapai County Sheriff's spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said Wednesday. The sheriff's department said clothing and other items recovered at the scene lead them to strongly believe the body is Suellen Roberts.

Sanders and Suellen Roberts were in a relationship after meeting a few months ago in Las Vegas and planned a road trip for Labor Day weekend when the woman and daughter disappeared, authorities said.

"It's such a complicated case a dead man who's wanted for murder. All the different states involved. There's even different jurisdictions within the states that are involved," Kelly said.

A public defender who represented Sanders at a brief hearing in Mississippi didn't respond to phone messages left by The Associated Press. Sanders did not enter a plea at that hearing.

Sanders' family petitioned a Mississippi court to have him declared dead in 1994. The family had not heard from him since 1987 and his wife had divorced him the following year, according to court records obtained by The AP.

Even though he had been legally declared dead, Sanders lived unnoticed by authorities despite being arrested several times under his real name.

Much of his past is a mystery. He didn't buy property and establish many bills in his name, things that create a paper trail for most people. The most definitive accounts of Sanders' life after being declared dead come from arrest reports. Even some of those are sketchy.

Jim Knoll, a police spokesman in Clarksville, Tenn., said Sanders was arrested there in November 2002 for driving on a revoked license. Police records indicated he had a Tennessee identification, though he was from McComb, Miss. He used an address for a room at a local motel where most residents are transients. He was arrested in Tennessee again in March 2003 for alleged possession of drug paraphernalia.

He also was sentenced to two years in Georgia for simple battery. State and federal authorities said that charge involved a minor, but they haven't elaborated.

He has been traced to Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, Georgia and Nevada. He worked as a laborer, a welder and a scrap metal collector. Authorities said he sometimes gave his name as Tom or Steve or the nickname "Spider."

He signed court documents in the kidnapping case as T.S. Sanders.

Obama waffle mania on the web

Senator Barack Obama takes a mouthful of pancake during breakfast. The waffle he was eating at an earlier breakfast was put up for sale on eBay. It spawn a campaign button (middle) and a painting (below).

A man who attempted to sell Barack Obama's half-eaten breakfast on eBay has sparked a gold rush on the site, with opportunistic sellers now auctioning off commemorative paintings and badges.

The auction of Obama's leftover waffle and sausage was pulled from eBay, which prohibits the sale of unpreserved food, but not before it reached $US20,100 ($21,181) and spawned waffle-inspired paraphernalia.

Badges and even an oil painting depicting the leftovers, complete with plate and cutlery, are now for sale on the site. The painting had this morning attracted eight bids and was selling for $US10.75.

"The recent Ebay auction of Barack Obama's Waffle may be no more, but it lives on here as a miniature oil painting," the item description reads.

"Created from the actual recent photo of Mr. Obama's half-eaten breakfast, this one-of-a-kind piece of art is not a reproduction but an artistic interpretation of the original. I call it 'Memories of Barack Obama's Breakfast'."

eBay Australia spokesman Daniel Feiler said perishable food items were only allowed to be sold if they were preserved or vacuum sealed.

He said Britney Spears' half-eaten sandwiches and chewing gum had been sold on the site previously, as had various food items that had been inadvertently moulded into bizarre or recognisable shapes.

"The famous Virgin Mary cheese sandwich was actually a preserved sandwich; they vacuum packed it," Feiler said.

"There was a Nutri-Grain that sold in Australia a few years ago that looked like ET - and I think it sold for $3000."

The Obama breakfast, which he ate at the Glider Diner in Scranton, Pennsylvania this week, was snagged by a loyal customer of the diner, John Oakes.

Oakes said the money raised from the sale would "go to Hillary [Clinton] for President!!!! Haha".

Oakes told the Scranton Times-Tribune that the auction wasn't removed by eBay. Instead, he took the auction down at the request of the diner's owner, Charles LeStrange, who had been blasted with negative calls.

"We put it up there because we figured people are nuts and they might go crazy with it. And guess what? They did," Oakes said.

The day after his Scranton diner visit, Obama had pancakes in Pittsburgh and this time didn't leave a scrap of food on his plate, the Los Angeles Times reported.

In March, eBay removed auction listings purporting to sell corn flakes in the shape of US states.

Two sisters from Virginia, who were selling a cornflake shaped like Illinois, got around eBay's food policy by relisting the flake as an auction for a "redeemable coupon" rather than the cereal itself. The flake eventually sold for $US1350.

Police4sld.jpgThe Area Four Police are now searching for a man by the name of Omar Miller who they say is seeking to take over the leadership of Western Kingston.
Superintendent of Police Arthur Brown of the Kingston Western Division told a press conference this morning that his team is moving to prevent a violent confrontation in West Kingston as Miller seeks to retrieve weapons that were issued in the lead-up to the *la*hdy confrontation between thugs and the security forces in May.
Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner of Police Gervis Taylor has appealed to the public to assist the police in apprehending Miller and 15 other wanted men, 10 who are wanted for murder and six for shootings.

Miller, better known as Andy Foul to his cohorts, heads a host of suspected gunmen for whom the police are searching.
Brown disclosed that Miller lived in Tivoli Gardens until the security forces operations in the community in May.
He described Miller as the interim leader of the Tivoli Gardens gang and said hes wanted for his involvement in several murders.
Miller is of fair complexion, medium built and is about 170 centimetres tall.
He has a gold tooth and wears plaited hairstyle.
The police claim that this is being resisted by the gang members and violent confrontations are expected as a result.
Superintendent Brown also listed Collin Hugh Brooks and Ricardo Wright both from South St. Andrew among the list of those wanted.
Wright is said to be vying for the leadership of the Singer Gang in Arnett Gardens.
Another name which featured prominently on the Most wanted List is Christopher Linton otherwise called Dog Paw.
Linton, 24, is 177 centimetres tall, thick lips, bushy eye brows and wide nostrils.

Sting2010.jpgThe promoter of what can be described as the greatest one night dancehall reggae show on earth has indicated that the show, for this year, will be shifting from the traditional format where clashes would be the main course of the evening.

Promoter of the annual event, Sting, Isaiah Laing says there will be some great reasons for patrons to come out early to start enjoying themselves at this years show slated for its annual Boxing Day date.

It will be something to see, so those who like to come out after midnight, they should think twice as they will be missing something really special, he hinted.

Sting is known for its many memorable clashes, but this year, promoter Isaiah Laing said the show will be built on unity, there will be no clash, this year we might have a powerful collab, he said.

However, Sting promoter Isaiah Laing says he has surprises in store foe the fans of the event and this will not be divulged until the sting launch on November 23rd.

This year artiste will be performing under six segments: 13 Bad Girls of Sting, Comedy Hour, Spotlight, Disc Jocks, Starlight and 13 Warriors of Sting.

Early names for 13 Bad Girls are CeCile, Pamputtae and Lisa Hyper; Comedy Hour will focus on some of the comedic performers such as Twin of Twins, Food Kartel and Tanto Blacks. The Spotlight segment will see performances from artistes Nesbeth, Zamunda and Singer Jah. As usual upcoming talents will get their chance to shine in the Starlight segment.

We got a lot of complaints that the show was too drawn outthis year we will be ensuring that patrons dont have that problem, Laing pointed out adding that once the prime acts start making their way on stage in the category dubbed 13 Warriors of Sting, it will go right through to the end.

There will definitely be no time for boredom, promised Laing.

Haiti_protestors_attack_UN_peacekeepers.sjpg_400_1000_0_85_1_50_50.sjpg_.jpegAnti-U.N. riots spread to several Haitiancities and towns, as protesters blaming a contingent of Nepalese peacekeepers for an outbreak of cholera that has killed more than 1,000 people exchanged gunfire with U.N. soldiers. Protesters continued to barricade some roads on Tuesday.

The protests left at least two people dead. A demonstrator was shot dead by a U.N. peacekeeper during an exchange of gunfire in Quartier Morin, near Haitis second-largest city of Cap-Haitien, the United Nations mission said. It said it was investigating the shooting but asserted the soldier acted in self-defense.

Haiti Senate President Kelly Bastien told Radio Vision 2000 that a second demonstrator was shot and killed in Cap-Haitien itself. He did not know who shot him.

The 12,000-member force reported that at least six U.N. personnel were wounded in protests at Hinche in the central plateau, while local Radio Metropole reported that at least 12 Haitians were injured in Cap-Haitien.

http://ggrind.slideshowpro.com/albums/010/267/album-161552/cache/2010111655046278360_20.sjpg_400_1000_0_85_1_50_50.sjpg?1289941352

The protests apparently began in Cap-Haitien early Monday and within hours had paralyzed much of the northern port city. An APTN television cameraman trying to reach the area was repelled by protesters throwing rocks and bottles from a barricade.

As the day went on, other protests broke out in surrounding towns and the central plateau. Local reporters said a police station was burned in Cap-Haitien and rocks thrown at peacekeeping bases. A small protest was also reported in the northwestern city of Gonaives, but U.N. police said it ended peacefully.

The U.N. Stabilization Mission in Haiti, or MINUSTAH, dismissed the protests as politically motivated, linking them to the fast-approaching Nov. 28 presidential elections.

The way events unfolded suggests that these incidents were politically motivated, aimed at creating a climate of insecurity on the eve of elections. MINUSTAH calls the people to remain vigilant and not be manipulated by enemies of stability and democracy in the country, the mission said in a statement.

Officials said investigations to determine if the protesters suspicions are correct will have to wait. The U.N.s World Health Organization said in Geneva on Tuesday that efforts should focus on controlling the disease, not determining where it came from.

The Nicki Minaj/ Lil Kim feud has been brewing for a minute. But with Nicki's opening verse on "Roman's Revenge" the beef has reached full broil.

Nicki has denied the verse was aimed at Kim. That didn't stop the Queen Bee from going at Nicki's head early this morning November 6 at Club Pure in Nicki's borough Queens, New York.

"I will erase this b*tches social security number. I don't even need a new record right now, I'll kill that b*tch with my old sh*t," Kim said as the beat drops to the "Quiet Storm" remix with Mobb Deep, "All About The Benjamins, Magic Stick and more.

I think it's safe to say the beef is officially on.

Here's a fresh slice of dancehall nepotism, Beenie hooking up all his friends on this new riddim - called 'Beenie & Friends' - by Danny Browne (and even Beenie's son gives the voice to the instrumental). No wonder he and D'Angel (above) are having the time of their life. It's quite impressive that Beenie manages to voice this track differently 8 times over. Beenie addicts, this is for you.

Apparently he tried to get Bounty to join him too, but it was a 'logistical' nightmare, with Vybz and Mavado yet to respond to his offer.

The Decider has written a blockbuster.

Random House Inc. says former President George W. Bush's "Decision Points" sold 775,000 copies through its first week of publication. Random House made the announcement Tuesday.

In the book, the two-term president discusses the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, his decisions to send troops to Afghanistan and Iraq and the response to Hurricane Katrina.

An initial print run of 1.5 million copies has been increased to 1.85 million. E-book sales alone are 100,000.

Random House said last week that opening-day sales of "Decision Points" were its highest since former President Bill Clinton's "My Life" debuted in 2004.

ROSEAU, Dominica, CMC - The Chief Welfare Officer Martin Anthony is calling on the Dominica government to impose stiffer penalties for persons convicted of child sexual abuse after a United Nations report said that sexual abuse is on the rise in Dominica and five other Caribbean countries.

Anthony said that a report by the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) showed that there were empirical and anecdotal evidence from the Caribbean to suggest that reports of abuse were increasing which implied a growing awareness and willingness to confront the problem.

However, the report also noted that the actual number of child sexual abuse cases is increasing which seemed to indicate an acceptance of the problem.

The study, Child Sexual Abuse in the Eastern Caribbean was conducted between October 2008 and June 2009 in the islands of Anguilla, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat and St. Kitts and Nevis.

Anthony said that the data on Dominica continue to show high incidences of child sexual abuse.

He said the problem needed to be tackled at the level of the courts.

I am of the view that when a child is violated judgment must be handed down and a strong message sent out to the society. Interestingly our sexual offences act contains stiff penalties for those found guilty of sexually related offences.

For example provisions are made where sexual intercourse with a person between 14 and 16 years carries a maximum prison term of 14 years, and for a child who is violated under 14 years an individual can be sent to prison for 25 years. So strong penalties are on our statutes, he said.

No doubt this rests in the hands of those who administer justice in our courts but I think we should continue examining stiff penalties as contained in our laws as relates to sexual offences against children and whether or not they serve as a deterrent as one would expect, Anthony said, adding that a societal response was also necessary to tackle the problem.

The study points to mixed signals from Dominicans as relates to incidents of sexual abuse. On the one hand the actions of perpetrators are vehemently denounced but there are those in our midst who tend to attribute blame on children and by their utterances even support the perpetrators.

Child sexual abuse must always be denounced and our denunciation can have the effect of making the perpetrators uncomfortable with their actions, he added.

Kamla.jpg

Trinidadian Prime Minister, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, has apologised to the region for recent biting comments which drew the ire of several regional heads, the business community, and media.

Addressing a press conference in Trinidad, in late October, Mrs. Persad-Bissessar said that her administration had no intention of helping CARICOM countries hit by Tropical Storm Tomas without some benefit accruing to the twin-island republic.

Angry Caribbean people described her comments as insensitive and said they went against the principles of regionalism.

There were scores of stakeholders calling for a boycott of Trinidad products.

Now more than two weeks later Mrs. Persad-Bissesar has apologised on RJR's Beyond the Headlines.

Ah maybe, it was most unfortunate and I do apologize for the statements that have been taken in this regard. I remain committed to regional integration and to our CARICOM brothers and sisters, Mrs. Persad-Bissesar said.

The Trinidad Prime Minister says since the controversial comments were made, her administration has extended the hand of assistance in the form of several shiploads of containers dispatched to the islands affected by the recent flood rains.

She added that Haiti is also to receive assistance despite the logistical problems.

The Trinidad Prime Minister went on to clarify her comments.

The way I envisioned it is that, I can only give from my home, I think [St. Lucia] Prime Minister Stephenson King put it in these words and I appreciate, when he said what Kamla is sayingthat we dont expect her to go out and shop for us and so she would give us goods and supplies out of Trinidad and Tobago, that is what I meant really. It is most unfortunate the way my comments have been received and I do apologize for that, she said.

BRIDGEPORT -- An academic coordinator at theUniversity of Bridgeport was arrested after police said he raped a female student in a dormitory room.

Jarrell Brandon, 21, of Bronx, N.Y., was charged with first-degree sexual assault and first-degree unlawful restraint.

He was being held in lieu of $100,000 bond.

Police said Brandon forced the 18-year-old student into a room where he raped her Friday night. They said Brandon admitted trying to have sex with the young woman even after she repeatedly told him no.

Leslie Geary, a spokesperson for the university, did not name the defendant, but identified him as a university employee. She said she was aware of the incident but couldn't provide any details.

According to police, shortly before 4:30 p.m. officers were dispatched to the university's security office on a call of a sexual assault.

When they got there they met the female student.

Police said she told them she had been visiting some other students on the sixth floor of the Bodine Halldormitory when Brandon entered the room, grabbed one of her boots and fled.

Police said the young woman and a friend chased Brandon into another dorm room where he forced her female friend outside and then slammed the door. Police said Brandon then threw the young woman onto a bed and got on top of her.

Police said the young woman repeatedly told Brandon she didn't want to have sex with him, but Brandon pulled her clothes off and sexually assaulted her.

They said at some point she was able to push Brandon off her. He then handed her back her boot and told her what he had done should remain between the two of them, police said.

Police said the young woman's parents arrived on campus some time later and the three of them were taken to St. Vincent's Medical Center.

Police said they later confronted Brandon but he claimed he initially thought the girl wanted to have sex with him. "He stated he believed it was consensual all along but now could see how she could possibly have seen it otherwise," police said.

Mavado no longer a gangster for life

I say Mavado is no longer a ganster for life. This maybe due to the fact that he has been making efforts to indicate that he is a "good boy" and this image of a good boy was what was taken from him..when he was recently briefly detained. David Brooks was deemed a "bad boy"--a "gangster"---for life even.. But then the big wigs pulled the plug ..rendering the beast vulnerable, hungry and cold. He yearns for the warmth of access to the market that could yield him a sustinance that could fixate to his pension fund and the upkeep of his real estate...a
The dutty babylon lock the good good artiste for a day with that guy called addi di teacha.. in the same cell !!?..and in the process taint him of wrong doing he has absolutely nothing to do with. This completely eradicate the very rooot of the what he and his management team was trying to achieve..
In a recent report the number one singj in Jamaica indicated that his recent string of hits is a testament to his good behaviour, tunes like - nine lives, messiah, coming soon..etc and also contributing to social life by building a library and donating computers to learning institutions..and of course some peace treaty pact with the Portmore Empire don.. Kartel.
Mavado is now considering legal action against the authorities for perhaps making him look like a gangster for life once again, or for the night he spent in the cell.

A 25-year-old Clarendon man is $20,000 richer today after swallowing his fears and two ****roaches.

The man, Marvin Nelson, of Mineral Heights in the parish, was paid for his seemingly 'strong' stomach after a bet with a group of friends last week.

The incident is said to have happened a few days after the group was playing a game of dominoes which was interrupted by one of the flying insects.

While many would have probably quivered at the thought of just seeing the insect, Nelson instead accepted a bet from his friend that he would eat the insects in a sandwich.

"Well, of course, a something mi did haffi think bout real hard. Mi did a think seh it might mek mi get sick and ting but when mi check it, in a some part of di world dem thing deh is a delicacy and it nuh do dem nuttin when dem eat it, so mi just deal wid it," Nelson told THE WEEKEND STAR when he was contacted via cellular phone yesterday.

the money came in handy

Nelson, a painter by profession, said he is currently out of a job and admitted the money came in handy and even said he has no regrets.

"A painting work mi do eno but nuttin naw gwaan rite now so da 20 grand yah ago do whole heap fi mi. Rite now mi have some business fi deal wid plus mi daughter did need some likkle things so mi just ago sort har out," he explained.

"Mi naw go rob or shoot nobody or sell miself so fi eat two roach a simple thing. Mi nuh regret it," Nelson also said.

THE WEEKEND STAR heard of the incident through a police source from the Clarendon division.

The corporal said the act has since become a hot topic on the lips of residents from the community and surrounding areas.

One of Nelson's friends, 32-year-old Andre Hutchinson, said he along with the other men were quite surprised when the adventurous man agreed to take up the bet as it was initially meant to be a joke.

"A some domino we a play one night and one flying ****roach come een pon we and wi haffi rush him. Afta wi kill di roach out a di blue a next man jump up a seh him woulda pay a man fi eat a ****roach," he said.

He further said; "Afta dat Marvin ask how much money him woulda get fi eat one and wi seh 10 grand and then him seh him woulda eat two suh we tell him if him serious wi ago pay him 20 grand and him agree."

The domino game was last week and Nelson was said to have ate the roaches on Monday. He told THE WEEKEND STARthat it was after much research and thinking over the weekend that he did so.

Asked about the taste of the insect, Nelson claimed it was not as bad as persons would think. He said he was given the opportunity to eat the insect by whatever means he chose, and as such he decided to make two sandwiches.

"Mi just mek two sandwich wid dem ... drop dem between two slices a bread and butter and wash dem dung wid one soda," Nelson said before adding, "it nuh taste like nuttin else wah me know, it have it own taste."

Hutchinson said they thought Nelson would have pulled out of the deal but they were proven wrong. He was paid the money immediately after eating the 'tasty' ****roaches.

'Well, of course, a something mi did haffi think bout real hard. Mi did a think seh it might mek mi get sick and ting but when mi check it, in a some part of di world dem thing deh is a delicacy and it nuh do dem nuttin when dem eat it, so mi just deal wid it.'

ept_sports_nba_experts-247286625-1289424644.jpg?ymFMKEEDI6zqovib Size, in and of itself, is no guarantee when it comes to trying to predict NBA stardom. Or even a chance at an NBA roster. Through the years, we've seen countless 7-footers from several countries fall short, so to speak, time and time again when it comes to trying to hold their own at the NBA level. The Americans clearly lead the league in failing at this aspect, but a dozen other countries have flubbed as well. One country that hasn't taken to the ring, or the court, yet? India. And though this massive nation hasn't had a player play or even be drafted by an NBA team, it's not easy to see why Satnam Singh Bhamara might not be the exception to the rule. After all, the 7-footer has scouts drooling over his skills. The catch? He's only 14. But he's also 7-feet tall. Once again, if you missed that: 7-feet tall, and 14 years of age. [Rewind: Terrell Brown may be the largest football player you've ever seen] Tim Povtak of FanHouse has the story: "Satnam is on track to be a very, very good long-term basketball player,'' said Dan Barto, director of player development at IMG Basketball Academy, who recently returned from India where he conducted several coaching clinics. "His biggest weakness now is our biggest strength here when it comes to developing players -- neuromuscular firing -- overall body control. His potential is pretty amazing.'' That potential starts with his size, which is incredible itself. At age 14, he is expected to grow for another couple of years. For now, he wears a size-22 basketball shoe. His hands swallow the ball. His father, Balbir Singh Bhamara, is 7-2. His grandmother on his father's side is 6-9. He already has a man's body with broad shoulders and a thick chest. Although his leg strength is not good yet, there is nothing skinny about him. Through the normal maturation process -- if he continues to work -- he should become quite a specimen in the next five years. It's a bad joke at this point, but if you're a 7-footer and you can walk and chew gum, then you have a shot at the NBA. And, to be fair, most of the 7-foot NBA washouts just didn't have the coordination needed to compete at this level. But if the quotes behind this story are any indication, and they do remind about what we were told about Yao Ming over a decade ago (Yao, lest you forget, averaged 25 points and 9.4 rebounds three years ago), so it's something to get giddy about. Work on that drop step, Satnam.

Madman beats donkey to death

The owner of a donkey is now in distress following the untimely death of the 'beast of burden' after it was reportedly killed by a man of unsound mind.

THE WEEKEND STAR learnt that on Sunday, the animal which was tied by its owner was attacked and beaten. It died two days later.

"People pass him a beat di animal and say mi a talk to yu and yu nah ansa mi," a female resident told THE WEEKEND STAR.

The resident who knows the mentally ill man quite well said that he needs to be placed constantly on medication.

Other residents who said that they were scared by the man's behaviour claimed that it was a serious attack that should be taken quite seriously.

"This not something to take lightly, as it is donkey now, what next. This man needs to be treated and taken off the streets," a businessman said.

THE WEEKEND STAR was unable to speak with the distraught owner of the animal but checks made at the Bog Walk police station revealed that they were aware of the incident.

"No report was made to the police, but we are aware of the incident," a policeman said.

A little bird was flying south for the Winter. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field. While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him.As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realize how warm he was. The dung was actually thawing him out!He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy. A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate. Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him. Morals of the story:

(2) Not everyone who gets you out of %&%* is your friend.
(3) And when you're in deep %&%*, it's best to keep your mouth shut! (mre while)

Vybz kartel and Mavado closer to home

Vybz Kartel  and Mavado are very much more closer to home this evening as there were released this afternoon after being question by the police. This after the two were held over night for questioning on the next day ..with no charge, which became the axis on which the lawyers succeeded in releasing the DJ/SingJ and SingJ.
These guys are very much not concious that these are the sort of things that affect their visa status. The more legal trouble they get themselves in the greater there chances of not getting their visa and denying there fans in the lucrative markets a good chance to see them.
I don't know if they were called persons of interest solely on the basis that they are have some kind of "Don" status in the areas where the troubles flares, i.e. in Big Yard and Cassava Piece. Kartel appear to be more dysfunctional than Mavado perhaps with reasons he was held for about two weeks earlier this year under the same suspicion and something tells me they not finish with this Cake-Soap-Guy

000vick.jpg

On a day that began with Washington Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb agreeing to a five-year, $78 million contract extension, it was Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick who turned out to be money.

The 30-year-old signal caller, who is set to be a free agent after this season, had a game for the ages in leading Philadelphia to a resounding 59-28 victory in front of 84,912 at FedEx Field.

Vick put together a 14-of-18, 264-yard, three-touchdown passing performance in just the first half. For good measure, he added six carries for 66 yards and two more scores before halftime. He finished the game connecting on 20 of 28 passes for 333 yards and four scores, along with eight carries for 80 yards and the two touchdowns.

His jaw-dropping performance started on the first offensive play of the game, when he hooked up with third-year wide receiver DeSean Jackson for an 88-yard touchdown. From there, the left-hander never looked back.

Was it the biggest passing play of his career?

In a professional football game, maybe so, I dont know how long it was but I have to go back and look at the film, Vick said. This was a great job of the offensive line holding up front. They did a great job all day. Great job by DeSean going to get the ball.

Vicks assault wasnt limited to the Redskins defense. He did plenty of damage to the record book, as well.

Among the marks that will be tough to beat: Vick is now the only player in NFL history with three touchdown passes and two rushing touchdowns in the first half of a game. He is also the first player in NFL history with at least 300 yards passing, 50 yards rushing, four passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns in a game.

Ive had some great games in my day, but I dont think Ive had one like this, said Vick, who did his damage despite it raining most of the game and still nursing badly bruised ribs, which were first injured during the initial matchup between these two teams Oct. 3.

Well, first of all Im proud of him, Eagles coach Andy Reid said about Vicks showing. Ithought he did a nice job out there. He led our football team, on the offensive side, the way you are supposed to lead it. I think that the guys rallied around him and really played well collectively the offensive line, receivers, tight ends and running backs really played well around him. He was in charge out there and he did a nice job.

Reid surprisingly played Vick the entire game despite the game seemingly in hand by the end of the third quarter.

Well, it was going back-and-forth there. I just wanted to make sure, said Reid, whose team improved to 6-3 and is tied atop the NFC East. Ive been on the other side of the call and taken a player out too quickly. I just wanted to make sure that everything was secured. We had a wet football and so on. We ran the football a little bit.

Reids offense wound up setting some team records, as well.

Philadelphias 59 points on eight touchdowns were the second-most in team history. The 592 total yards on offense (260 rushing, 332 passing), 28 first-quarter points and 45 first-half points are all team records. Philadelphia, which scored touchdowns on each of its first five possessions of the game, also set a Redskins opponent record with the 45 points in a half. The 59 points were also the most ever scored against a team coached by Mike Shanahan.

Michael Vick did an excellent job on offense. Big credit to Michael Vick, he made some plays that I havent seen a lot of quarterbacks make for a long time, said Shanahan, in charge of a team that is now 4-5 and two games behind the Eagles and New York Giants. When something wasnt there in the passing game, he made plays with his legs. He had a really big-time game.

McNabb did what he could, going 17 of 31 for 295 yards, two scores and three interceptions. But Philadelphias performance on offense was just too much to overcome.

Ive been a part of the other end where everything just seemed to go well and in the second half, it seemed like everything turned nothing to this effect, McNabb said. We have a solid team. We have a team [of] mentally strong guys and great character and guys who are willing to sacrifice themselves for the next man.

This is one that, obviously a cliché but, well watch film and come back from it. But, I think this is one that you already know is fresh in your mind of what happened. You should be anxious to get back out there on Wednesday to make some changes.

As for Vick, this performance could be a major exclamation point on his for sale sign.

Who said you cant reinvent yourself in your thirties?

Disc jocks take a stand - Will not play music of artistes who continue to beat selectors

Over the years, several disc jockeys have been on the receiving end of physical assaults relating to accusations of playing too much or not enough of an artiste's songs at events.

Disc jockeys are now deciding to take what they say is a stand against artistes who continually disrespect the ethics and morals of dancehall music.

The decision comes days after a selector was attacked after playing 'banned' songs in a popular St Andrew nightclub. In addition, another member of the entertainment fraternity was also allegedly attacked after airing his disgust over the Internet at the selector's beating.

Among the selectors who have joined to take a stand are, Tony Matterhorn, Ricky Trooper, Foota Hype and Razz and Biggy.

Trooper spoke with THE STAR outlining some of the reasons leading to their decision.

"Most a di man dem weh inna di music from long time an a fight the struggle siddung wah day an a seh a bear tings a gwaan inna di industry," said Trooper.

He continued, "We as selectors help fuel di fire when wi align wi self wid a certain artiste. Mi used to do it enuh, mi fight Beenie Man struggle an give it to Bounty, mi fight Kartel struggle an give it to Mavado. Wi come to a stance yah now, wi dun wid it. Now as selectors wi a pull together. Any man weh nuh plan fi join our cause deh pon dem own. Mi talk to Foota already and Matterhorn and Razz and Biggy dem. If wi nuh united now wi caan united again."

disrupt the unity

Trooper also warned artistes not to try and disrupt the unity as there would be dire consequences.

"Any artiste weh feel seh dem above the unity wah we a try bring across, wi nah go play dem music. Wi a tek back di ting and do it like how it was suppose to be done. Wi ago give everybody fair play," he said.

Tony Matterhorn also shared similar comments saying, "I've been saying it for a long time now, too much bad *la*hd inna di ting. Yuh always have one man wah feel seh him badda dan a next man. The ego keep pushing wi apart and is a hard task still but it can happen because it's the common goal fi everybody because a di end a di day a di same work di whole a wi a do, entertainment."

Tivoli residents upset over spray-painting of PNP-flavoured graffiti in community

Kimmo Matthews

Wednesday, November 10, 2010

THE police are investigating the spray-painting of People's National Party (PNP) slogans on several buildings in Tivoli Gardens, the West Kingston community that is fiercely loyal to the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP).

Residents of the community said they woke up yesterday morning to find several walls plastered in orange paint, some with the letters 'PNP'.

The act sparked an immediate visit from Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for West Kingston Bruce Golding and Councillor Desmond McKenzie, who toured the area as dozens of angry residents clad in green T-shirts the trademark colour of the JLP demonstrated and voiced their disgust at the graffiti.

"We will not leave any stones unturned until we get to the bottom of this," Renford Rowe, head of the Tivoli Gardens Police Post, told the Observer yesterday.

Rowe warned that strong disciplinary action would be taken against anyone, police included, if any of them were found guilty of partaking in the illegal act.

The senior policeman made the statement as he tried to calm the angry residents, who said they felt offended by the graffiti that sent a wrong signal that they were switching political allegiance.

"Can you imagine how shocked I was when I woke up to find the place spray-painted in with the letters 'PNP'," said one woman.

"PNP can't get yah so; JLP we say for life," shouted one man.

During his tour yesterday, Golding raised questions as to how the incident happened when the community was under 24-hour protection by police and soldiers.

"I will not make any speculation, but will wait until the investigations are complete," Golding said.

But one woman, who shared the prime minister's sentiments, blamed members of the security forces for the 'offensive' graffiti.

"After the attack on the community people could hardly move, so it is puzzling that someone could come in the area and do this and the police don't see," the woman said.

The woman was speaking of the May incursion by members of the security forces to apprehend former Tivoli don Christopher 'Dudus' Coke to face drug-trafficking and gunrunning charges in the United States.

More than 70 persons, including one soldier, were killed during the battle which saw gunmen in a barricaded Tivoli Gardens trading bullets with police and soldiers over two days.

Coke is now in a New York prison awaiting trial

International Monetary Fund (IMF) has told the Trinidad & Tobago Government it may have to pay local contractors billions of dollars owed to them if it wants to bolster confidence in the economy.

A team from the Washington DC, US-based organisation met with People's Partnership Government officials in Port of Spain during the past two weeks to review economic and financial developments and discuss economic prospects.

At the end of the meetings, the IMF team, headed by Judith Gold, deputy division chief in the IMF's Western Hemisphere Department, issued a statement on Monday which cited a number of factors, including the collapse of insurance conglomerate CL Financial, that affected economic stability in Trinidad and Tobago.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Finance in Port of Spain this week, the IMF said: "After 15 years of positive growth, Trinidad and Tobago was hit hard in 2009 by the global financial crisis, the fall in energy prices and the collapse of a large financial conglomerate."

It said the country entered this period of crisis from a position of strength with large fiscal surpluses and low debt, which provided important buffers to help deal with both the external and domestic shocks.

However, this fiscal balance turned negative, even with a decline in expenditure last year, the IMF said.

The 2010/2011 national budget adapts an expansionary stance, with additional expenditure and tax incentives to catalyse private-sector activity in the country and higher domestic and external investments to support a recovery, the organisation said.

"The Government could enhance confidence by accelerating efforts to implement the public sector investment programme and addressing arrears to contractors and on VAT (value added tax) refunds," the IMF mission said.

This has come at a time when "inflation has surged despite weak economic activity, reflecting weather-related increases in food prices, and unemployment has increased sharply to 6.7 per cent in the first quarter of 2010", the IMF stated.

There are other challenges for Government, the IMF said, noting the State's intervention in a "large financial conglomerate in January 2009 (CL Financial and CLICO) avoided contagion but has been costly".

The priority now is completing the intervention while containing the fiscal costs of rescuing CL Financial and CLICO, the IMF said.

The former People's National Movement (PNM) government and the Central Bank have injected around $5 billion to save CL Financial and CLIC the country's largest insurer.

On the positive side, the IMF said growth in Trinidad and Tobago was expected to pick up only in 2011.

But there are a number of near-term risks tilted to the downside, and these reflect "fragile confidence, the weak regional outlook and global uncertainty", the IMF said.

"Notwithstanding the expected firming of energy prices, economic prospects over the medium term are weaker compared to the strong growth period preceding the economic crisis," the IMF added.

Last week, the Central Bank said in its latest Monetary Policy Report that almost 25,000 jobs were lost in the country between 2009 and 2010.

Central Bank governor Ewart Williams said, at a news briefing in Port of Spain, the current weakness in economic activity in the country was accompanied by a sharp increase in unemployment and a surge in headline inflation.

President of the Trinidad and Tobago Contractors Association Mikey Joseph has said contractors are prepared to accept bonds instead of cash payments for billions of dollars owed to them.

Works Minister Jack Warner said Government does not have the cash to pay contractors at least TT$7 billion they are owed for projects executed across the country.

The police are expressing grave concern over a developing trend which they believe involves teens stealing jewellery on the orders of criminals.

Top cop for the St Andrew Central Division, Superintendent Derrick 'Cowboy' Knight, said police have recently received several reports of teenagers stealing jewellery from persons going about their business in sections of the division.

It is also being investigated that the teenagers may be linked to a number of recent jewellery store robberies.

"It is a developing trend and one we are very much concerned about as it involves kids stealing gold jewellery from persons. They snatch it, so to speak, and run off," Knight explained.

On at least two occasions, suspected teenage robbers have been held but the police did not catch them with the loot.

The police say this may have been because the teens normally carry whatever they have stolen to those they work for immediately.

Also, Knight said, if brought to court the teenagers are given small fines, a situation which does little good to prevent the trend.

THE STAR spoke with several jewellery store owners in Half-Way Tree, Cross Roads and Liguanea, St Andrew, who all admitted knowing of the trend and expressed concerns that their stores could be next.

beefed up security

One store owner in Liguanea went as far as to say he has beefed up security at his establishment in an effort to scare away potential robbers.

"Yes, this is something I have heard of and it is really sad to think our kids are being paid by criminals to carry out robberies. I for one have put more security personnel in my store," the store owner said.

The situation also recently forced Police Commissioner Owen Ellington to address jewellery store owners and he has promised to give keen attention to the issue.

"We will be going after the buyers, those who melt it down, those who compile it in bulk for shipping, because I think it's being shipped out of the country. We have to do some work around that as well, perhaps working with Immigration and Customs. That's a responsibility that we will take," the commisioner told jewellery store owners at a meeting at the Police Officers' Club, St Andrew, two weeks ago.

Ellington also urged store owners to equip their establishments with closed-circuit cameras to monitor their day-to-day operations. These cameras, he said, are a deterrent to robbers.

Last month, armed robbers struck at the Kraft Jewellery Store in Lane Plaza, St Andrew, and reportedly escaped with about $80 million in cash and jewellery.

Gunmen also struck at the Goldmine Jewellery and Electronics Store in Liguanea, and in August carried out a daring robbery at the Bijoux Duty Free Shop in New Kingston, metres away from the New Kingston Police Post.

A popular singer, who appeared on a local talent competition, was recently raped by a gang for approximately five hours while her family helplessly watched.

The woman, who was prominently featured on television some years ago, reportedly fell victim to a group of at least five rapists when she returned from an overseas engagement and was paying a visit to her relatives in St Ctaherine.

The police told THE WEEKEND STAR that it appeared as if her attackers were lurking on the premises before entering the house and holding up the occupants at gunpoint. They are said to have proceeded to rape the woman and rob her.

The incident was reported to the Ewarton police station and it was also said that the woman had to seek counselling following the frightening ordeal.

That incident is said to be the latest in a series of cases occurring in two communities in the parish.

The police say that a group of men are said to be wreaking havoc on the women in the St Catherine communities.

In another case, a 16-year-old girl was also raped over a week ago by a group of men who discovered she was home alone. The police suspect the same group of men are responsible for both acts.

Sources also told THE WEEKEND STAR that the men are linked to the theft of a shotgun in a recent robbery at a house.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Clive Blair, the officer in charge of crime for the St Catherine North police, said the criminals are being tracked by the police and they will be brought to book.

An alleged thief was beaten after he was caught while reportedly trying to escape through the ceiling of a gaming lounge in Half-Way Tree, St Andrew, on the weekend.

THE STAR understands that the proprietor of the gaming lounge went to his establishment to open its doors and was just in time to see the legs of the alleged thief crawling into the ceiling in a bid to escape.

It is reported that after the man was caught, within minutes an angry mob gathered and started beating him severely.

Police, who were alerted, had to rescue the man from the angry crowd. He was rushed to hospital where he received treatment before being taken into custody at the Half-Way Tree Police Station.

still in custody

Head of the St Andrew Central police, Superintendent Derrick 'Cowboy' Knight, confirmed the incident last night adding that the alleged thief was still in custody

When THE STAR visited the lounge on Tuesday, we were told the proprietor had just stepped out. However, we were told by a source: "It's like di man open up the place and catch the man inna di place and in no time a crowd come down on him and started beating him. Dem do di youth bad a di police did have to sort out things," he said.

THE STAR also spoke to a woman who said the alleged thief looked to be in his early 20s.

"Dem give him one chop inna him head back and the back of his shirt look stab, stab up with *la*hd all over him," she said when describing his injuries.
