Jah Cure's management, Danger Zone Records, has made the decision to cancel the three Jah Cure performances in the Caribbean scheduled for September, so that Curefest (October 12-14) will be Jah Cure's 1st performance in that region.

jahcure3.jpg"At the time the dates in Grenada, St. Maarten and Tortola were confirmed, Curefest was set for August and would have been Cure's 1st Caribbean performance. Now that Curefest has moved to October because of Jamaica's elections, we feel that Jamaican's have a right to be the first Caribbean fans to have a chance to see Jah Cure live, so have cancelled the dates in September" explains Delmar Drummond of Danger Zone Records.

Curefest marks Jah Cure's first performance in the Caribbean in 8 years and is set for October 12 - 14, 2007 at The Ruins At The Falls and James Bond Beach. Danger Promotions, Iyah Cure Promotions and Brass Gate Promotions teamed up to present this 3-day event focusing on the work and music of Jah Cure.

Mavado fined in Barbados

July 4, 2007
Started By LOST5 Comments
Jamaican dancehall artiste Mavado admitted in the Bridgetown Traffic court on Monday that it was a member of his security team who threw the first punch that resulted in a brawl and stone-flinging fracas in Barbados over the weekend.

mavado.jpgThe resulting brawl left two members of the security team, Michael Kevin Marsh 34, and David Joseph Hunter injured. Mavado, whose real name is David Brooks, and his cousin, Sammer Coombs, 22, an entertainer were not injured.

Seven people were charged in connection with the incident that stemmed from what was a promise to do dub plates.

According to the nationnews.com website, all four Jamaicans, admitted they used unlawful violence and their conduct was such as would cause others present to fear for their personal safety. Coombs admitted assaulting Jimal Edwards, causing actual bodily harm.

FINES
They were reprimanded and discharged and ordered to pay $500 costs to the court immediately.

In addition, Coombs was ordered to pay $200 compensation to Edwards immediately. The monies were paid.

"Was all of this necessary?" asked Magistrate Christopher Birch.  "All of this over music? I thought music was supposed to unite people.

Mavado explained he was in Barbados to promote himself and his music, said he was driving through Bridgetown when some "crazy people" surrounded the vehicle.

Someone asked him for a dub plate and he said yes, all the while signing autographs.

"But we didn't really have an agreement or we really didn't talk no price," he said. Prosecutor Sergeant Glenda Carter said arrangements were made for local group Super Sounds to buy a dub plate for $1800.

When the local artistes went to collect, an argument ensued in which Coombs struck Edwards in the face. A fight followed, in which stones and other objects were thrown causing guests to scamper, the prosecutors statements read.

The fracas at the hotel reportedly started when Mavado's cousin, Coombs complained he was attacked by some "yutes".  When Movado went to see them, they rushed him "so my cousin run in front me and him chuck him off and that is what caused the whole commotion".

The magistrate made references to the simmering feud between Beenie Man and Bounty Killer in Jamaica, and its implications for dancehall music and society.

"I have watched with interest and alarm the situation in Jamaican music. It wasn't long ago Bennie Man and Bounty Killa could not walk the streets without bullets flying," the magistrate said. "I would not want the Brotherhood in the region to descend to this again."

Michael Lashley, who represented the four, pleaded for anything other than a prison conviction.  "I ask that you impose a fine or you can give them a very strong warning," he said.

Calling the incident unfortunate, Lashley said Mavado, who had shows on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, had missed his flight out of the island as a result.

Three other Bajans were released on bail and are set to return to court October 29 with Mavado.

International recording star Vegas has been hospitalized in the Tony Thwaites Wing at the Univeristy Hospital of the West Indies since Tuesday of this week.

mr_vegas.jpgReliable sources has informed media that the singjay had been complaining of chest pains and was admitted, and a battery of tests run on his heart condition. Chances are that he could miss this years Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest because of his medical condition, but his camp is holding out for a positive prognosis from doctors.

The singjay's Hot Wuk number one single featuring Opal and Hottaball is blowing up on urban radio stations in the USA like HOT97, Royal Radio, et al. In April, Vegas missed a number of engagements after doctors ordered him to take two weeks bed rest after being diagnosed with pericarditis, which is an inflammation of the lining around the heart (the pericardium) causing chest pain and accumulation of fluid around the heart.

Popular entertainer Danny English, whose real name is Donald Cox, was denied bail when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday to answer to four counts of carnal abuse and one count of indecent assault. Cox, 36, of a Waltham Avenue, Kingston 13 address, is accused of molesting the now 15-year-old complainant since December 2004. The court learnt that Cox once lived with the complainant's family and still maintained a close relationship with the complainant and her siblings even after he moved away. The complainant reportedly visited his house frequently, and it is during these visits that the reported molestation occurred. Cox was arrested and charged on July 6, by officers from the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse. Length of time When he appeared before RM Judith Pusey, his lawyer attempted to make a bail application, but was stopped short by the RM who told the court: "I am very reluctant to grant bail because of the number of times and how long this thing has been going on. I'm not comfortable with granting bail in these situations. This has been going on for three years." A preliminary enquiry into the matter was set for July 16 and Cox will be remanded until this date. He was ordered to have his fingerprints taken and the RM also ordered that a blood test be done.

NEW YORK - Just months after his longtime girlfriend gave birth to twin girls, Sean "Diddy" Combs announced Tuesday that the pair have split up.

A publicist for the 37-year-old rap mogul confirmed that he and model Kim Porter were no longer together. On Dec. 21, Porter gave birth to daughters D'Lila Star and Jessie James; the couple also have a son together.

The move comes a few months after the two publicly proclaimed their love for one another in a cover story for Essence magazine, which detailed their turbulent history: They already had a son, Christian, when Combs began his high-profile romance with Jennifer Lopez. That romance ended in 2001.

In the December article, Porter said Combs simply fell for a "big booty and a smile" and she knew he would be back. Though she took him to court to increase her child support payments in 2002, Combs eventually reunited with her.

But while Combs told Essence he was an "ex-player," he admitted that he wasn't ready to marry Porter and even wondered, "Do you really think that God meant for a man to have just one wife?"

Though Combs said "this is the most monogamous I've ever been in my life," rumors persisted about other women " so much so that actress and friend Sienna Miller recently took pains to deny that they were a couple.

He has another son, Justin, with ex-girlfriend Misa Hylton-Brim

Eminem will return

Eminem will return to the big screen in a remake of the classic television series "Have Gun - Will Travel."

The Grammy-winning lyricist will star in the Paramount Pictures film, which will offer a contemporary spin on the 1950's Western series that starred Richard Boone.
The setting could be Eminem's hometown of Detroit, but those details have yet to be worked out, Variety reports, adding that Paramount has an 18-month option to develop "Have Gun" as an action drama for Eminem.
The new movie will be "revamped from the original, with some characters based loosely on ones from the series as well as nods to certain story points," Paul Rosenberg, Eminem's manager told Variety.
Although the rapper will be cast as a bounty hunter, it's unlikely the character will mirror Boone's Paladin, a brandy-sipping, Shakespeare-quoting, chess player.
Interscope/Shady/Aftermath Films will produce the film and Eminem may contribute to some portion of the soundtrack or score.
The acquisition of Eminem is the newest development in the quest to bring "Have Gun" to movie theaters.
John Travolta was once attached to star in the film, which had long been developed as a period piece.
"Have Gun - Will Travel" joins 1987's "Wanted: Dead or Alive" on the list of contemporary remakes of classic TV westerns.
That film, a revision of the old Steve McQueen series, starred Rutger Hauer as the descendant of McQueen's bounty hunter.
"Have Gun" is Eminem's second foray in to the world of motion pictures.
The rapper's first movie, "8 Mile," earned him an Academy Award for Best Song for the track "Lose Yourself."
Deejay Mavado made references to his recent incarceration in Barbados during his hosting of the R.A.S promotion Beer Vibes at Caymanas last Friday.

mavado2.jpgHe hit the stage a few minutes after 3 a.m, and as soon as he became visible, and declared hell bruk loose again, members of the audience rushed towards the barriers to get a better glimpse of the gangsta for life.

People mi haffi turn up, me did de a prison a Barbados, some bwoy diss and mi haffi beat off dem face, he said, before singjaying mi go so nah nah nananah, and deejaying Chat Too Much.

During his second segment, he did We No Badmind Like Dem where he promised to put straight gun shot inna the face of Shebada. The crowd roared its approval.

Dem diss me a Barbados, but wha mi tell dem say he said, before belting out his version of the hymn classic, Amazing Grace.

The deejay was charismatic and in command throughout his stint as host. He also played up the arrival of Firelinks as the real big man, ratcheting up the level of anticipation for the dub plates that Firelinks would unleash on the audience later.

Personalities such as VJ Nikki Z, publicist/broadcaster Odessa Chambers, Alex Fras of HYPE TV, writer Claude Mills and photographer Nicketa Thomas of XNEWS were also in the house.

Selector Firelinks a.k.a Mr. Ras was in awesome form this morning at the rejuvenated R.A.S Beer Vibes event at Caymanas.

The selector demolished fellow selectors Jazzy T from Renaissance, Black Chiney and former protege Cutty of Coppershot Disco in a memorable return to a session that has written a whole chapter in the annals of sound clashes and dancehall music.

People, when mi drive in mi see Black Chiney ah batter fi life, so tell who call me name?

The audience shouted names in wicked glee anticipating the almshouse which was certain to follow.

Who? Copperflop?! he asked.

firelinks.jpgHe then played a dubplate which suggested that Black Chiney love lick, Coppershot lick clit and Jazzy T hood little but him tongue stiffPu$$y dem a chew, and the crowd erupted in a frenzy of fire-torches and wild cheers.

Firelinks then played another dub plate which said mi no like diss Chiney people, ah pure dog oonu nyam to more crazy forwards, and members of the crowd began running around and jumping with wicked joy.

Firelinks then played a Capleton dub from back in the day, Mi De Ya to R@@s, and then earned a stunning ovation with a Kartel 45, Mi Buss Mi Gun Anywhere on Firelinks latest rhythm project.

He then dropped the mike and announced mi gone, mi no have no competition and pretended to leave before Mavados Gully Side chipped in and he sprinted back to the microphone.

After the crowd quieted down, he addressed Cutty, who had defected from Firelinks sound to Coppershot, for what Firelinks said was a visa.

Mi send him go small islands and him waan reach Miami, he said. Coppershot say dem go fi Cutty cause dem waan lock the garrison dem, but oonu ah damage oonu reputation, uptown no waan see him.

Later, Biggy who had taken a shellacking at the hands of Coppershot earlier, returned to defend himself and played arguably the best dub plate for his four year career when Busy Signal announced that Black Chiney lick and taste, Shebada Cum to town and live a Jazzy yard.

Cutty also returned but failed to spark the crowd, allowing Firelinks to annihilate him with a Kartel 45 No Badda Try and the final insult, Sucky, lef the people dem sound'.

The event petered out after that but thousands of people had had a memorable morning of music.

Hip Hop legend, LL Cool J and R&B's reigning queen Mary J. Blige, are coming to the 15th annual Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest but according to a release from the organizers of the event, it is the slot that has Beenie Man and Bounty Killa on one night - on one stage - that has dancehall fans buzzing.

The release states that the two have been at loggerheads in recent years so that fact that they will both perform on the same stage, on one night has many predicting an "XPLOSION" indeed. The buzz is fast building over the performance of the two with many fans more piqued by the Jamaican dancehall acts than the international talent pool.

Beenie and Bounty are set to perform at dancehall night's 'Xplosion,' on Thursday July 19 along with an all star cast of unbeatable reggae and dancehall talent. They include Cham, Elephant Man, Movado, Lady Saw, Vybz Kartel, Vegas, Anthony B, Chuck Fenda, Wayne Marshall, Macka Diamond, Ninja Man, Voice Mail, Busy Signal, Aidonia, Gyptian, Lutan Fyah, Kip Rich and Munga Honourable.

The two deejay rivals have clashed time and again, using lyrics as their weapon and a heated and tongue wagging performance is also expected next month.

Ninjaman and Bounty Killer

July 6, 2007

Ninjaman and Bounty Killer were involved in a fracas at a concert in the Twin Island Republic.

Ninjaman hit the stage and got the crowd goingspend about twenty minutes deejaying there just hyping the masses. After a short performance, Ninja proceeded to "explain" to the people that he won't share the stage with Bounty as he never knew he was a part of the same show (this is not true as Ninja stated he would clash the killa).

While Ninja was on stage, Movado arrived at the venue and took up a position backstage. Ninja even threw words in his direction - wanting to know if anybody wanted to come and defend the Killa. Mavado ignored him.

Now, as Ninja finished perform he stood around backstage for a bit, then began to make his way from backstage to the VIP area (that was the exit area for people backstage). At the same time Bounty and his entourage was making there way into the venue via the same VIP.

The two groups confronted each other. Both with about 20 entourage members around them. People started to hurl insults and shove each other. Both artists exchanged words....then Ninjaman lunged at Bounty (in an attempt to slap him). Ninjaman who was nowhere close to the Killa though was held back by the event security. One of his entourage (made up a mostly trini yutes) then threw a plastic bottle of water at Bounty wetting up his shirt. Police quickly put an end to the melee. Moments later Ninja was escorted from the arena.

During all this Rayvon was performing.

The show went on as usual....Mavado put on a good show and definitely impressed the trini massive. The Killa, clearly cross at what happen hit the stage and quickly let the people know that Ninjaman was not up in his class and that he would kill him in any clash....then he sung some ole favs..Dead This Time, Gun Thirsty, Spy Fi Die.

Midway through his performance he addressed the Ninja issue again. He stated that "Ninjapan" is a crackhead. And that Ninja should not let certain trini yutes chain him up to war in Trinidad. "Mi go war him in Jamaica..dis is Jamaica business....mi nah go handle it outta Jamaica" Killa said. Bounty then made some comments about sending Ninja money while he was in jail and made some comments about his family.

Bounty continued his set as per normal....dissing Fisheenie and Kartel occasionally.

Homo cover-up at airport?

The Port Security Corps has launched an investigation into allegations that one of their male employees and another man, a pilot, was caught in an 'compromising' position last week. Reports reaching THE STAR say that the men were allegedly caught by members of a police unit on patrol in an open lot near the Norman Manley International Airport. "We have heard about the incident and we are investigating," Michael Hinds, port commander at the airport, told THE STAR yesterday. Hinds said no official report has been made to them but because of the allegations it was inevitable that they "check it out". Paid off police According to reports, the men, after being caught, were released shortly after without being taken to the Norman Manley Police Station for questioning and possible charges. It is alleged that money was paid over to the officers to release the men and to keep the matter on the 'down low'. This has reportedly not gone down well with other employees of the corps, who thought the men should have been charged. Some told THE STAR they had suspected their colleague to be "of a certain orientation" and had even planned to "beat" him. Efforts to speak to Deputy Superintendent Victor Hinds in charge of the Norman Manley police proved futile yesterday, but Superintendent Que Morgan of the Motorised Patrol Division said he had heard of both allegations that the men were caught and that money was paid to release them. "We've heard of it," Supt. Morgan said, quickly pointing out that none of the two allegations, however, can be substantiated. He said he has spoken to the officers who would have been on duty around the airport area and they reported nothing irregular during their patrols.

Ele 'Gets Physical'

The long-awaited and overdue album from the energy god Elephant Man is due out August 14 of this year.

'Let's Get Physical' is Elephant Man's first production with Bad Boy Records, the company owned by the hip hop mogul Sean 'P Diddy' Combs.

From early last year news hit Jamaica that Elephant Man had been signed to the Bad Boy label and the DJ was in the midst of making his next album. Almost a year later the album is finally set to be out. According to Elephant Man there was a lot of legal matters that had to be taken care of but now everything is in order.

Let's Get Physical will feature numerous collaborations from the likes of Shaggy, Rihanna, Mya, Busta Rhymes, Mario and many others.

Five-O
, the first single of the album, is a collaboration with Wyclef Jean. Elephant Man told The STAR, the remix for the song will soon be out featuring rapper Young Joc and DJ Assassin.

A dancing ting

"I'm looking to come back with a dancing ting, 'Five O', is like di concept and lyrics are easy to relate to. Mi never waan start off with a hip hop theme but a dancehall/ Caribbean feel first," he said.

Elephant Man says that he is still all about dancehall, "mi still deh pon every riddim, its a in and out ting, mi in and out of the island. Mi do wha mi can, mi deh pon most of di riddims dem late. But mi still waan represent for dancehall hoping I will play a part in representing Jamaica and making Jamaica proud," Elephant man said.

However, some fans are sceptical about Elephant Man staying true to dancehall after being signed to a foreign label. One dancehall fan, Trudysaid "dancehall has changed somewhat, when was the last song Ele had? Is Munga, Mavado and di likkle young yute dem a run dancehall now. I think they (Bad Boy) would water down Ele, cause seeing that albums would more likely sell in the US, so it has to be sumting they would appreciate."

Yet the energy God is still optimistic having learned an important lesson in hard work from his new mentor P Diddy.

"Its a good album, expect dat yuh gonna love it" he said.

Due to the recent uproar about three of our top dancehall voices being censored by gay rights movements after allegedly signing a statement that denounce performing what they refer to as hate songs, Buju Bantons Gargamel Music sent a letter to address the image of the artiste that is being portrayed by the gay community.

The release signed by the President of Gargamel Music, Inc. Traci McGregor states:

After hearing about the concerns being voiced by members of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender community about international reggae icon Buju Banton, I felt it was important to reach out, as the public portrait that has been painted of Buju as an artist who has espoused violence, hatred and negativity his entire career is one of absolute fraud.

Indeed a young Buju Banton wrote the incendiary anti-gay tune Boom Bye Bye back when he was a mere 15 years old. Penned in response to a widely publicized man/boy rape case in Jamaica, it caused a furor in the states when it was re-released four years later in 1992. For the record, he had not performed the song since the early nineties and regularly speaks out against violence - against all people. I was a child when I wrote those lyrics, Buju admits. But let me make it clear that I do not encourage or condone violence towards any human being, and that includes our gay brothers and sisters. Last year, when Buju once again found himself the target of a new generation of gay activists, he utilized two lines from Boom Bye Bye only as a springboard to discuss the enduring persecution he has faced because of the song and to assure his fans just how much he has evolved since. Yet certain factions of the gay community have continued to use it against him in an attempt to discredit him in the media.

Those who have followed Buju Bantons artistic development and have actually listened to his entire body of work, know of his prodigious growth into one of the worlds most prolific  singer/songwriters - one whose consistently positive messages of peace, love and spiritual enlightenment are never lost in the music.

Bujus 1995 release Til Shiloh was nominated for a Grammy award, landed on Spin magazines Top 20 Albums of the Year and hailed by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the Best Albums of the Decade. His Grammy-nominated project Inna Heights (1997) and also Unchained Spirit (2000) garnered him numerous comparisons to the late great Bob Marley. His 2003 album Friends For Life was also nominated for a Grammy award, as was his most recent project Too Bad (2006).

Buju Bantons love for humanity is not just demonstrated in words but also in deeds. Twelve years ago he responded to the AIDS crisis in Jamaica by launching Operation Willy, an organization focused on raising monies for HIV positive babies and children who lost their parents to the disease. For the past three years he served as spokesperson for Upliftment Jamaica, a US-based non-profit committed to working with underprivileged youth in Jamaica.

Buju and his Shiloh Band have played all around the world over the past 15 years, and the song has not been a part of his performance. His culturally diverse fan base - which, no doubt includes gay people - spans the Caribbean, North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East. For them, he is not simply an artist; he is a very necessary voice.

Shottas Demands Young Girls

Taken from the Star Tuesday June 18th.

All i can say is what the heck is happening in JA.

Shottas Demand Young Girls - Parents ordered to take teens to dons for sex

So called 'dons' and 'shottas' from several inner-city communities are ordering that some parents deliver their barely legal daughters to them for sexual favours, THE STAR has discovered.

THE STAR understands that the men want the girls as soon as they reach 16 years old, as it is the age of consent for sexual activity in Jamaica.

"Bway a dem a run di place eno, di man dem seh dem nah go prison fi deh wid likkle pickney, so dem jus sen message to di girl dem madda an mek she know seh wen har dawta turn 16 dem ago want har," one resident of a West Kingston community told THE STAR.

When THE STAR visited the community recently, the seemingly sexually starved men could be heard uttering sexual advances to various young girls, some of which were on their way to and from school and seemed not be more than 15 years old.

When approached, one of the girl's who identified herself as Cathy, a 15-year-old student of a high school in Kingston, said that it was a daily routine for the men to do so, and while she feels uncomfortable at times, she has become quite accustomed to it.

"A everyday ting, so mi kinda get use to it now, but mi still wonda if dem ago try nuttin," she said. Cathy, however, admitted that while the men tell her of their sexual desires for her, they have not sent an order to her mother.

However, two ladies from West Kingston commented that their younger sister had to flee the community under disguise after the 'big man' ordered that she be sent to him whenever he is ready.

"When she turned 16, we kept a party for her and we invited everyone including him (the big man) and his crew ... about three to four months after the party, he saw us and out of nowhere just started demanding that we send our sister to him whenever he's ready," the female recalled.

"We had to tell them that her relatives abroad were filing for her and the papers came through," she added.

Sex predators

The ladies further claimed that they had to send their sister elsewhere as a means of escaping the grasp of the sex predators who from time to time have reminded them of the incident with statements such as "she escape, unu suppose to glad."

It was a similar scenario in another community in Spanish Town, St. Catherine. Men from the community, while having their regular 'link-up' could be heard making sexual advances to young females who were passing by.

"Jah know, da gal deh a get fat eno," one man said. "She young still eno, gi har two more year," another said.

"Nobada gwaan like unu waan rush har eno, a my own dat, me a gwaan groom har, 'til she reach 16," a next man added.

THE STAR learnt that the men usually choose girl's of needy families and often use the offer of money or meals to coax families.

According to men from both communities, while their 'orders' are usually questioned at first by parents, they are usually afterwards met.

"Yeah most likely dem ago itch at first, but dem done know seh a suh di ting set up ... from we seh 'errrr', dem jus affi do it," one man said. "Put it da way ya, dem need help eno, so we jus help dem out ... money, food, clothes, tings like dat, plus di girl dem nuh mine 'cause dem done know seh a we a di real mckoy, wi nuh baby boy."

Despite the beliefs of the men, young females with whom THE STAR spoke expressed deep fear of the fact that they could be the next victim.

"Mi see and hear seh it happen to some oda girl roun here, suh mi affi a wonda if a me nex cause me soon reach di age," one youngster said.

While residents condemn the men's actions, there is very little that they can do or say. Residents claim that voicing an opinion against the men could only prove detrimental.

"Wi nuh rate it at all, but we cyaa really do or say nuttin...unless wi ago runway afterwards," one resident said.

Families that were pointed out by residents to be victims or soon to be victims of the disturbing incidents, chose to remain tight-lipped on the matter.

One individual Kentonadmitted to THE STAR that he was once a messenger of the 'shottas' now claims he totally regrets being a part of such an activity and hopes that the trend will be one that is very short-lived.

"Mi nuh proud but me a tell yu straight, me use to deliver message fi di don more time, an all me use to sen message to...fi tell yu the truth afta my dawta born mi look pon it an seh mi nuh want a guy try dat wid my dawta, suh mi jus stop. Me a try show di res a di man dem seh dem fi easy offa dem flex deh but dem nuh care," Kenton said.

An officer at the Centre for investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) told THE STAR that reports of such a nature are new to them. "No, we have never heard such reports," the officer said.

But Superintendent Delroy Hewitt, head of the Kingston Western Division told THE STAR otherwise.

"We have heard of it, we have heard of one or two situations," Supt. Hewitt said, adding that there have not been substantial reports. Hewitt also pointed out that the 'ordering' of girls is not limited to those who are 16.

"We've heard of not only 17, even 17, 18, 19, even as young as 13 and 14," he revealed.
A 24-year-old man who assaulted his common-law wife by inserting a screwdriver in her vagina - which prevented her from walking - appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday to answer to the charge of felonious wounding.

The accused, who is from an address in the Kingston 11 area, pleaded guilty to the charges. He explained to Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey that on May 20, his girlfriend spent the night elsewhere and left him alone at home to stay with their children .

When his girlfriend returned, the accused explained that he accosted her and they began fighting. During the confrontation, the accused said he "eased off" his girlfriend and as she began falling he scratched her on her vagina.

According to court files, allegations are that on May 5, the complainant had returned home after staying over with a friend. When she returned around 5:00 a.m., the accused attacked her. It is alleged that he punched his girlfriend in her right eye, her mouth, and then pulled her to their bedroom. It is further alleged that he then squeezed her throat, turned her upside down, pulled her legs apart, bit her on her right leg, and then inserted a screwdriver in her vagina.

R.M Pusey in reprimanding both the accused and the complainant said, "Ms. X, once you have them, you better know seh you affi si dung wid dem, and don't lef dem. Plan when you are going out and have somebody take care of them, but don't always leave them, with the grandmother. Mr. ..., if I ever catch you beating anybody in here again you won't be leaving here the next time."

The accused whose $30,000 bail was extended was referred to the probation office for coun-selling and will return to court again on July 17. An outstanding medical report detailing the complainant's injuries are also to be brought at the next hearing.

Last week, the advocates of the campaign trumpeted what they claim to be a major breakthrough in their campaign when they got three major reggae artistes, Sizzla, Capleton and Beenie Man to sign the Reggae Compassionate Act.

beenieweb-thumb.jpgThe act, touted as being of historic importance to the gay community, effectively announces that reggae artistes renounced homophobia, and hailed the deal as this commitment is a major blow against homophobia in the Caribbean and in popular music. The artistes have also been subjected to an avalanche of criticism.

However, at least one artiste, Beenie Man is denying that he signed anything.

I never signed it, maybe the promoters signed it, because every promoter have to sign if dem want dem concert fi keep, but if yu nah sing about dem, there is no need to sign it, Beenie told reporters over the weekend.

A guy come fi my sign paper inna Spain and tell we say we must sign, and mi tell dem mi nah sing no song about them so mi nah sign it. Ah politics dem a deal wid, me know that, so dem caan trick me, he said.

However, Peter Tatchell of the gay human rights group, Outrage, has the signatures of Moses Davis (signed March 23, 2007), Miguel Collins (June 15, 2007) and C. Bailey (no date) on the Reggae Compassionate Act documents which explicitly state that to this end, we agree to not make statements or perform songs that incite hatred or violence against anyone from any community.

"They also agree that they will not make homophobic public statements. Beenie Man insists that he signed no such document.

Maybe the promoters dem sign because dem want to promote dancehall in Europe and if dem have to sign so that the man dem ease up offa we, then that dem a go do. They know that is Jamaica we live and how we feel about that lifestyle, but it is about getting dancehall out there, and to the world, Beenie Man said.

Why would I sign when I am going to continue to perform these songs I have. I know that if the vibes lick me, and me decide fi do a song, mi not going to be able to do it, because mi dun sign already so that is why me nah go sign. No compromise. My ting ah my ting. Me know about me. Mi already tell dem at dem big press conference in Spain, fi dem lifestyle ah fi dem lifestyle, and that is not wholesome to my lifestyle. Mi love woman, mi no love man, Jah, he said.

Mi caan sell out dancehall, ah that mi sing, straight, Beenie Man said. The gays dem no have no visa power, dem no have no police power, demo no have dem power de fi stop dancehall, dem caan get me fi sign nothing fi compromise my beliefs.

Efforts to get in contact with the management team of Sizzla and Capleton proved futile as both artistes were said to be on tour in Europe. Despite Beenies claims that the gay movement is not that powerful, so far, the Stop Murder Music campaign has been able to marshal forces to disrupt the lives and livelihoods of reggae artiste. The campaign has resulted in the cancellation of dozens of the singers' concerts and sponsorship deals, causing them income losses.

Mavado releases his debut album

June 20, 2007
Started By GA2 Comments

Mavado, the turbulent genius taking dancehall by storm, brilliantly shines as the next star of his genre. Developing his artistry under the supervision of the dancehall icon Bounty Killer, Mavado crafted his sound into a class of its own. His bone chilling lyrics and raspy toned vocals resonate throughout the ghettos of Jamaica.

mavado.jpgIn his tumultuous surroundings of Cassava Piece, Jamaica, Mavado tells a story of survival throughout his anticipated debut album, Gangsta For Life: The Symphony of David Brooks, released on July 10th, 2007 by VP Records.

This carefully orchestrated street narrative features the hustling anthem Dreamin, one of his first famed singles of Jamaica produced by Daseca on the Riddim. The album continues with Weh Dem A Do, the ever popular hit that was at heavy rotation on mainstream radio, like New Yorks Hot 97 and earned him major magazine covers, such as The Fader. His fathers death is spoken of on the one-drop tune Sadness, while Pon The Gully Side and Born and Raised document the singers rough upbringing even as they showcase the more angelic side of his gangster gospel.  The albums centerpiece, however, is undoubtedly Dying. Already a hit on reggae charts and video shows in a version built around a tribute to Tupac rhymes, Mavado has redone the emotional song with original lines that show a new sophistication and a lyrical edge as sharp as any rappers.

seankingston_bujubanton_jrsexygirlsbeyonce.jpgFor Sean, [the EPIC records joint venture] was almost like a prophecy beginning to be fulfilled. Not only is music his love, it is in his blood. Iconic Reggae artist Buju Banton is his uncle and Jack Ruby, who produced records for Bob Marley and Burning Spear in Jamaica, is his grandfather. Now Kingston says he's looking forward to making music and living out his dream. nephew

After producing an endless array of hit records for the likes of musical heavyweights such as 50 Cent, The Game, Rihanna and Snoop Dogg, production savant J.R. Rotem has turned his attention to one of the most innovative young talents in music, Sean Kingston, the first signing on his Beluga Heights label.

Kingston, a 17 year old native of Jamaica who now lives in Miami brings his very unique triple threat of talent of rapping, reggae chatting and soulful harmonization with the 2007 release of his debut yet to be titled album.

"As an artist, my whole goal is to make powerful and classic music," Sean divulges. "I want everyone to feel me and understand where Im from and that's what this album will do. The music is all about an authentic Sean Kingston vibe. JR is a talented dude and a dope producer and he saw that I had something different than any other artist out there. Together we're a powerful force. In addition to J.R., The Runners, Cool and Dre, DJ Felli Fell, and DJ Khaled will be supplying beats. In just a short time, Kingston has already done what few in his age bracket can accomplish - solidify a following in the streets and get people excited about music again. He has two certified thunder knockers on his hands with "Colors 2007" and the Jamaican remix. The original version is a lyrical brouhaha with Kingston showing he can hang with the acclaimed guest MCs. Miami Mayor Rick Ross and the multi-platinum west coast superstar, The Game. The reggae remix of Colors is a Caribbean hailstorm featuring the legendary Vybez Cartel and the always profound Kardinal Offishall. Both records maintain the same theme of unity and self-reflection."That's the whole campaign," Kingston, whose parents are from Jamaica, elaborated. "The song is about representing every flag that you're loyal to - whether it is Jamaica, the States, your block etc. It's a lifestyle record that can be a street anthem no matter where you are. I couldn't ask for anybody better than The Game and Ross to join me on the track. The Reggae version came up because I knew I had to do one special for Jamaica. The first person I thought of was Vybez Cartel. His verse came out crazy. Then Kardinal Official, that's my homie, he really attacked the track."Kingston's album is shaping up to be as diverse as the colors are on the different flags he talks about. The melody of "Stand By Me," also acted a muse for the first official single off the album "Beautiful Girls." It is way more than puppy love when Sean lays his vocals on the record, singing about a shattering break up."You're way too beautiful girl," he sings about heartbreak. "Girls will have you suicidal when they say it's over.""I heard the track 'Stand By Me,' one night in the studio, the radio was on. "I asked J.R., did anybody ever flip that? He made the beat the beat right there on the spot and I wrote the songs in a few minutes. It's hard when you're in love and a girl tells you that it is time to end things. I know everyone can relate to that, so that's why I had to write about it.""Drummer Boy" finds Kingston sticking mainly to rapping over the trouncing pounce of drums, while "I Can Feel" takes it to the party and incorporates a sample of Phil Collins' timeless "In the Air Tonight."Perhaps one of the most eye opening track however may the song "Prosecutor," where Kingston vents about what he calls the wrongful imprisonment of his sister and mother. "You're lying and there's no way to prove it," he fumes.Sean says he was inspired to write the record after he saw his family incarcerated when he was just 14 years old."I always had my sister and my brother," he began to explain. "My brother was doing his own thing, he was there but he was running around doing his own thing. When my mother and sister went away, it took a lot out of me. My sister went away for four months and my mom been away for over a year. When she went way, I was like 'nah man, this is too much.' I was only 14. I missed her like crazy but I pulled through and used it as my motivation. "Prosecutor" is a defining song on the album for me - nothing fake about it because it touches on something very personal to me. The dope melody that's on there makes me feel even closer to it."Kingston wants to make it clear that he is no cookie cutter artist that has the songs laid out for him. He comes up with 100 percent of his lyrics."Man, it feels good to get that creative freedom," he says. "Not a lot of artists are put in that position. I don't feel that just because I'm a young dude, somebody should write my songs and say 'ok spit it this way.' I think music is better when it comes from the person, when it comes from your heart. I feel comfortable writing my own music and them letting me do it, is a great situation.Sean talks about J.R. more like a big brother, rather than an Executive Producer of his album. Couple of years ago, Kingston started randomly hitting music industry contacts on MySpace. Although none of the A&R reps responded, Rotem emailed him back. J.R. almost had no choice, "Sean would hit me up at least three times a day!" J.R. says."He just had a real distinct sound," Rotem remembers. "I worked with some of the best and I don't see why Sean cant grow to be one of them. His potential is limitless."Rotem invited Sean for a meeting in Los Angeles, coincidentally; the young performer was already in the process of moving to California. Shortly after their initial meeting, Rotem had a flagship artist for his Epic records joint venture, Beluga Heights. For Sean, it was almost like a prophecy beginning to be fulfilled. Not only is music his love, it is in his blood. Iconic Reggae artist Buju Banton is his uncle and Jack Ruby, who produced records for Bob Marley and Burning Spear in Jamaica, is his grandfather. Now Kingston says he's looking forward to making music and living out his dream."In the future I want to have my own label and work on the business side," he said. "I went to acting school when I was younger, so I want to get into that. I want to get into every aspect of the business. It took me a little while to develop and build my sound, to find out who the real Sean Kingston was. I didn't know if I wanted to harmonize, or to rap. But I found out that I can do it all."
After deafening silence from celebrity couple Beenie Man and D'Angel, after the two reportedly had a domestic dispute that left Beenie Man in need of medical attention, 'The Doctor' says all is well again with him and his 'Angel'.

It was reported in THE weekend STAR on April 19 that Beenie Man and D'Angel, had a domestic dispute, forcing one of them to seek medical attention.

However, efforts to reach both Beenie Man and D'Angel at that time for a comment proved futile, as neither of them was willing to come to the phone to speak.

Producer and close friend of the couple, Arthur Wale, said in that article that "everything nice between dem now. A tru dem (Beenie and D'Angel) did have a likkle argument, everybody a blow di ting out a proportion."

No fight

He also told THE weekend STAR that "Beenie get a cut, one window bruk an cut him pon him hand; but Angel all right, not even a scratch nuh deh pon ar."

When interviewed yesterday, Beenie said there was no fight, as was reported in the media, but only an argument that is a natural part of any relationship.

"There was no fight. Me an mi wife have a argument an people a blow it out a proportion. Me an mi woman have a argument an mi nuh know who call di newspapa. Me an mi wife had an argument once, an wi a guh have argument again, but wah mi fi do, lef? A mi wife, a nuh like seh is jus a girl weh mi deh wid," Beenie told THE weekend STAR.

After the couple's domestic dispute was made public, neither Beenie Man or D'Angel was willing to make any comments about what had taken place. The deafening silence only bred more negative speculation, as it had been rumoured that Beenie had moved out of their apartment and the two were no longer together.

However, Beenie says the rumour holds no truth. He says that all those persons who had been wishing negatively for his marriage to D'Angel, would not see it fail.

"Me a rasta, an mi tek mi marriage vows seriously...till death do us part. From di day me an Angel married people have it as doom. Si di ring yah, still deh pon mi finger," Beenie said.

When contacted, D'Angel said she was not going to dwell on what happened in the past, but in adding to what her husband said, D'Angel says, "life is good, di haters have been focussing on me, my marriage, everything, because I've been doing good in life, but the majority loves D'Angel and life goes on, life is good."

She added, "...life is good, Marco-Dean lmmao(her son) is great an me an mi husband good."

Three of the world's top reggae/dancehall artistes have renounced homophobia and condemned violence against lesbians and gay men.

A release states that Beenie Man, Sizzla and Capleton had previously released anti-gay hate songs, including incitements to murder lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

sizzla.jpgThey have now signed up to the Reggae Compassionate Act, in a deal brokered with top reggae promoters and Stop Murder Music activists.

The agreement follows the three-year-long Stop Murder Music campaign, which resulted in the cancellation of hundreds of the singers' concerts and sponsorship deals, causing them income losses estimated in excess of five million dollars.

"The Reggae Compassionate Act is a big breakthrough," said Peter Tatchell, of the British gay human rights group OutRage!, Mr Tatchell is coordinator of the worldwide Stop Murder Music campaign. He helped negotiate the deal with the three singers.

"The singer's rejection of homophobia and sexism is an important milestone. We rejoice at their new commitment to music without prejudice," said Mr Tatchell.

"This deal will have a huge, positive impact in Jamaica and the Caribbean. The media coverage will generate public awareness and debate; breaking down ignorance and undermining homophobia.

The Game Faces 5 Years In Prison

IPB Image

Criminal charges were filed against Compton MC The Game, who allegedly punched and threatened to shoot a man during a pickup basketball game in South Los Angeles.

The Game has been charged with making a criminal threat and possessing a firearm in a school zone during the alleged Feb. 24 incident at the Rita Walters Educational Learning Complex.

This is the rapper's third felony count of exhibiting a firearm in the presence of an officer.

According to prosecutors, The Game got into a fight with a player on an opposing team during the basketball game, punched the victim and pulled a gun out of his Cadillac Escalade and threatened to shoot the man.

Los Angeles Police Department officers arrested "The Game," 27, on May 11 at his Glendale home. The cops were executing a search warrant at the time. Taylor was later released on $50,000 bail.

If he is convicted, he faces more than five years in prison.
$Billion$ in breaches! - Contractor General's annual report finds public entities wanting
published: Tuesday | June 12, 2007

Edmond Campbell and Tyrone Reid, Staff Reporters

In another no-holds-bar approach, Contractor General Greg Christie has highlighted billions of dollars worth of breaches in the awarding of government contracts, chief among them, the procurement of health services for members of the public service, at an estimated cost of $2 billion, without the contract being put to tender.

The Government's procurement procedures were flouted with impunity last year, and according to Mr. Christie evidence of the breaches has reached alarming proportions.

The contract for the Government Employees' Administrative Services Only (GEASO) health scheme, as at December 2005, had not since 1995 been tendered by the Ministry of Finance and Planning.

According to the annual report of the Contractor General, a copy of which The Gleaner obtained from highly-placed sources, the contract has been repeatedly renewed each year on February 1, on an uncompetitive basis, and on each occasion, the award was made to Blue Cross of Jamaica Limited.

Protect taxpayers' interest

Efforts to get a comment from the Contractor General were denied, as he explained that he could not speak on the issues contained in the report until it was tabled in Parliament.

The Contractor General's 20th Annual Report called for Cabinet and the Legislature to move decisively to protect the interest of taxpayers.

The caustic and comprehensive report revealed that under the GEASO health scheme, Blue Cross received the contract for providing the health benefits valued at approximately $1.68 billion for the 2005/2006 financial year.

Mr. Christie explained that the contract was renewed every year, in the 397-page document, which should be tabled in the House of Representatives today. He contended that because the contract was not subjected to the scrutiny and rigour of competition in the open marketplace, there remained an open question, which was of vital importance.

An adamant Christie has sternly cautioned the Cabinet to ensure that there is no recurrence in the future. "The question is whether the Jamaican taxpayer and the public sector employee, whose contributions together compose the contract costs, have received and are receiving value for money," Mr. Christie added.

He charged that none of the annual contracts were either evaluated or endorsed by the National Contracts Commission (NCC), prior to their award, since the NCC commenced its contract endorsement operations in June 2000.

"The Cabinet must insist upon strict conformance, by Public Bodies and Public Officers at all times, with the Government's procurement guidelines. This must be moreso particularly in the case of major 'high dollar value' Government contract awards. Another GEASO should never be allowed to take place," he said.

Mr. Christie added: "It is the respectful but considered opinion of the OC-G that the Cabinet must act decisively to ensure that fairness, integrity and public confidence in the procurement process is maintained".

According to the report, during the period 2003 - 2005, a number of written representations were made directly to the Ministry of Finance and Planning, by another insurance carrier, for the GEASO Health Scheme to be put to competitive tender. "The representations, which were copied to the office of the Contractor General as at December 2005, had for the most part, borne no fruit from the Ministry of Finance and Planning," the report said.

After the intervention of the OC-G, which included several letters and a face-to-face meeting with officials from the MOFP the contract was put to tender on December 19, 2006.

At the same time, $3.8 billion worth of contracts, each valued under $4 million for the period May 1, to December 31, 2006, contravened the government's procurement procedures.

Mr. Christie said the State must be perceived to be leading and supporting the fight to bring probity, transparency and accountability to the public sector procurement process, and to root out corruption from its midst.

"In its analysis of the QCA (Quarterly Contract Awards) data which it has so far received, the OC-G has determined that morethan 6,100 contracts, in the $250,000 to $3,999,999.99 range, valuing approximately $5.7 billion, were awarded by 174 procuring public bodies during the period May 1 to December 31, 2006," the report said.

However, the report stated that of the 6,172 contracts which were reviewed, over 3,100 or approximately 51 per cent of the total, valuing more than $2.7 billion, were reportedly awarded to contractors who were not registered with the NCC, "put bluntly, were not qualified to receive government contracts".

Further, "roughly 23 per cent or just over 1,400 of the contracts, valuing more than $1.1 billion, were reportedly awarded without any evaluation by, or the approval of, the procurement committees of the awarding public bodies - all in flagrant breach of the relevant rules".
The police believe that a man they arrested on Saturday may be the person that is responsible for several recent cases of boys being sexually molested after being enticed with toys, games and other gifts.

Reports from the Centre for Investigations of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA), are that there has been recent reports of a male individual who lured young boys from various addresses in and around the Corporate Area with gifts before sexually assaulting them.

The man was reportedly held about 7 p.m after he was alleged to have molested a 12-year-old boy under similar circumstances to the reported cases. The accused is scheduled to take part in an ID parade to prove if he is connected to these reports.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Herfa Beckford, head of CISOCA, said that they are still uncertain if the man is connected to the reported incidents. "We are not able to say if it is definitely him that we have held who is responsible for all the acts, but all the reports that we have received are of the same nature," DSP Beckford told THE STAR.

CISOCA is now seeking the assistance of the public in determining if the man recently arrested is in fact the guilty culprit. They are asking anyone who has been a victim of any of these assaults or with relevant information to contact DSP Beckford at CISOCA, 3 Ruthven Road, Kingston 10 or call them at 926-4079 or 926-7318.

UB40 is suing Paris Hilton

According to a story published on Yahoo News over the weekend, reggae-pop band UB40 is suing Paris Hilton for half a million U.S. dollars, for allegedly ripping off their song Kingston Town in her 2006 hit single Stars Are Blind.

This suit follows the heels of Paris Hiltons string of law run-ins and courthouse appearances. The heiress to a share of the Hilton hotel fortune as well as real estate fortune of her father was arrested in 2006 for driving under the influence and subsequently sentenced to 36 months probation and had her license suspended. Following subsequent arrests for driving with a suspended license and speeding, Hilton was charged with violating her probation and sentenced to 45 days in jail recently.

This is the second such suit involving a reggae singer and an American celebrity in the last year. The first was a suit which alleges that L'il Kim ripped off a song, Mi and Mi God by Tanya Stephens on her 2005 album, 'The Naked Truth'.

In that suit, it is alleged that L'il Kim flew Stephens to New York, asking her to sing on one of her albums and belting out by heart the very song she pilfered to show what a big fan she was of Stephens, according to the suit.

Stephens and her representatives from the Royalty Network were shocked when they first listened to Lil' Kim's late-2005 album, "The Naked Truth."

The writer of the New York Times article, Janon Fisher wrote that "the lyrics of Kim's track "Durty" match almost word for word with Stephens' song Mi and Mi God recorded in Jamaica and released in 1997, they say. Kim reached out to Stephens in 1999 and flew her up to have her sing on one of her albums. She gushed over Stephens when they met in the New York recording studio, telling her that she was a "big fan" and that she owned several of the reggae artist's albums, the suit says. Kim even sang her favorite Stephens song, which she knew by heart. It was Mi and Mi God, according to the lawsuit. Stephens then sang with Kim, but the vocals never made the album."

UP TO late last night, two elderly women remained hospitalised in critical condition after one was chopped several times and the house in which they lived set on fire in Brokery district near Christiana, Manchester.

The police say 65-year-old Tessie Stubbs was chopped four times in the head by her husband Theophillus, 65, before he set the house on fire and fled.

The elderly women were reportedly attacked on the first floor of the two-storey house shortly before six o'clock Saturday evening.

They managed to reach downstairs in a bid to escape, but collapsed in a room near an exit.

Stubbs received burns to her hands and head, while her 81-year-old aunt, Pearline Miller, suffered burns to 90 per cent of her body.

The women were rescued from the burning building by residents who kicked in the door.

Divorce threat

Yesterday, the entire community remained sombre. The smell of burnt wood and concrete was still fresh in the atmosphere as the rains drizzled intermittently.

Inside the damaged building, Sharon Powell, Mrs. Stubbs' son, searched through the rubble in disbelief.

Christine Williams, a tenant living on the ground floor, said Stubbs and her husband were having marital problems and she had threatened to divorce him.

"The husband told me about three weeks ago: 'I goin' to do somet'ing and I'm goin' to sorry for you, you goin' to get a surprise'," said Williams.

Williams, a firefighter, told The Gleaner that Mr. Stubbs had threatened to burn down the house after he received correspondence about divorce proceedings being brought by his wife.

Powell also reported that Mr. Stubbs had issued similar threats.

He said he took them seriously and complained to the Christiana police about two weeks ago; however, they did not take action, Powell claims.

Contacted yesterday, the Christiana police could not immediately confirm receiving any a complaint.

Damage is estimated at $15 million.

Selector chased from home

Selector chased from home

A popular selector, whom it is rumoured played the music on a gay tape that is circulating islandwide, has fled his community in what is thought to be an effort to distance himself from the allegations.

The selector, who hails from an eastern Kingston community, reportedly fled after residents said they discovered that he was on the tape. Now the once-popular selector's name is a like a curse word, not to be uttered in the community. "Wipe off yuh mouth," one resident said when theSTAR team asked about the selector recently.

Other residents reacted similarly, stating that his name should not be called in the area. "Dem man deh name nuh call roun' ere. Mek mi tell yuh straight him a byman," one resident told THE STAR.

The voice of the selector in question is said to be featured on the tape being circulated. The tape is of a party where several cross-dressing men are dancing to popular tunes being played. At intervals a selector is heard saying "turn me on" and "walk out my girl", among other things.

Voice ID

The residents say that after some residents saw the tape and believed that it was his voice, the selector left the area. They added that someone even used technology to zoom in on aspects of the tape to prove that it was the selector. "A him deh pan di tape. Man all computer it and see tings weh prove seh a him. Him voice and di tings him say, tings weh only him woulda say," he said.

Residents say that the selector gave no explanation for the allegations as he just left before they could confront him. "Him nuh seh nutten, him just left one day. Wi just nuh see him again."

In addition, residents say they do not want him to come back, noting that his presence on the tape proves that he is really gay.

The selector's sudden disappearance has set off several rumours, including one that he was told by his baby mother not to come back to the community two weeks ago. However, residents in the community said they knew of no baby mother.

Another vicious rumour which THE STAR has been unable to prove is that he is dead. Another selector, who provided a contact number for the accused man, said it is now being circulated that he was killed. The selector, however, could not say if the so-called murder occurred because the man was suspected to be gay.

In the meantime, efforts to find the selector were unsuccessful, as several persons said they were unaware of his whereabouts, and calls to his cellphone number resulted in busy tones.

CHILD SEXUALLY MOLESTS MOTHER - 15-year-old boy remanded for shocking, dirty acts

by Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

spanish town

A 15-year-old boy who admitted in court that on several occasions he sexually molested his 44-year-old mother who is of an unsound mind, was remanded to a place of safety when he appeared in court yesterday.

The boy appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court to answer to the sexual offence charge. His father was also charged with aiding and abetting.

According to the investigating officer, Detective Corporal Kirk Roach of the Guanoboa Vale Police Station, on Sunday, the police received information about the sexual encounters between the son and his mother. An investigation was launched and the boy and his father were arrested.

Yesterday when the R.M. questioned the boy in court, he admitted, "Yes mom, mi do it." His father was chided by the court as he admitted that he knew about the incidents but did not report it.

Dates written down

The court was also told by the police that the juvenile wrote down the dates when he committed the sexual offences. He is said to have noted at least seven occasions with the latest one taking place on January 4.

Several persons who were in the court seemed shocked when they heard the allegations. But the case still took another twist. The investigating officer begged the court to remove two children, ages nine and 13 years, from the house as their investigations had revealed that they were badly in need of food and medical care.

The father, however, countered that; "Mi take care a mi pickney them, and a wa day mi buy over 40 tablets to cure the sore them inna them head and mi also buy food for them."

The services of the probation department was enlisted to take the children into Government care, while the father was granted bail in the sum of $80,000 and is to reappear, along with his son, on July 3.
What was intended to be a routine walk along a path in Mamby District, Victoria Town, in southern Manchester, on Saturday, resulted in tragedy for two brothers who became entangled in an illegal electrical cable. Reports from the Asia police are that at about 1:30 p.m., 7-year-old Mario Lee and his brother, 9-year-old Tanhai, were walking along a path in the rain, when Mario, who was carrying an umbrella, got entangled. Tanhai reportedly tried to assist him and both boys were electrocuted and thrown to the ground. Mario died on the spot while Tanhai was injured. A huge crowd gathered at the scene before the youngster's body was removed to Lyn's Funeral Home in Mandeville for a post-mortem examination, while his injured brother was treated at the Mandeville Public Hospital and released. The police accompanied by residents tried to find the source of the cable and travelled for almost two miles to an adjoining hillside before finding the end disconnected. The police are continuing their investigations.

Jamaican dancehall artiste, Assassin is once again taking it to the road. With the heat on the streets from his video for the song, Boring Girl and an impressive catalogue of hit songs, Assassin hit Europe on tour.

assassin.jpgThe tour kicked off Wednesday, May 30 in Stockholm, Sweden and ends on Friday, June 16 in Stuttgart, France.

Assassin will be releasing his new album entitled Versatile in summer of 2007. Assassin eliminates numerous misconceptions on his sophomore release Versatile. As the title suggests, this record comes straight from the streets, but with a difference. Assassin explains that the title track is a celebration of ghetto lifestyle as opposed to a lamentation about how horrible it is.

Instead of demonizing ghetto residents as unruly savages, Assassins lyrics offer an acknowledgment of the fact that people are people even without an abundance of material things. You can still be happy while youre working towards better, he points out. Its all about not being resigned to your surroundings.

Very interesting program. Has some eye opening info..... Like the US Gov is in complete control of the internet.. lock.gif Huh? blink.gif Apparently it's true, I checked into a few of the facts provided on the show and found some interesting facts... Like the gov is in control of all IP allocation...

A Excerpt from the movie.

It is widely held that mankind has
got basic rights

For the most part those basic rights that
are represented in the Bill of Rights

and the US Constitution, and copied
by constitutions around the world

Of those rights, two of the ones that
I feel are the most important

are the freedom of speech, and the
freedom to privacy

Both of these rights are the
freedoms of communication

And I believe strongly in those
rights

The Internet has been a societal
revolution.

The reason the Internet been a societal
revolution is that it has changed

the way fundamentally that we as a
world wide society communicate

Many people feel that the Internet
is a free

international communication medium

when in fact it's not.

The Internet as we know it today is
controlled by the U.S. Government.

And I am opposed to this.

The United States Government,
through its contracts and programs,

controls everything from IP-address
allocations to who has overriding

authority over the domain name
space.

In addition they govern how

the TR1 internet providers can do
business

Ultimately this ends up translating
into total control of the Internet
Angry fist-fights and name-calling broke out between Jamaican entertainers and males attending a black male gay convention in Miami last weekend at the Radisson hotel in Biscayne, Florida.

The entertainers, who all performed at the annual 'Best of the Best' reggae show at the Miami Bicentennial Park in South Florida were apparently booked at the same hotel as over 200 plus black gay men.

"There was a lot of tension at the hotel for the whole weekend, especially in the elevators where the gay men held hands or cuddled while the entertainers looked on," one person told said

"The tension was palpable, there were a lot of verbal insults and name calling, and in the elevators, you could hear them shouting 'get out' at each other, and I heard that there was fight but I never saw it and I don't know if it was the tension with the gays that started it...all the entertainers were booked to stay at the Radisson so it was very very tense."

When reporters tried contacting the hotel, the receptionist said she didnt work that weekend and the manager who would be the ideal person to comment was out for lunch.

Some of the entertainers peforming at the 'Best of the Best' show include Bounty Killer, Capleton, Tony Matterhorn, Buju Banton, Elephant Man and Shaggy. Thousands of person often converge on Miami for the Memorial Day weekend which officially marks the beginning of summer, heralding in the summer holiday celebrations.

World record holder Asafa Powell sped to a world leading victory in 9.97 seconds to capture the 100 metres at the Artur Takac Memorial in Serbia yesterday evening. In the top performance of the night, Powell outgunned a pair of Caribbean colleagues and was very pleased to deliver the sub-10 clocking he was hoping for in front of 15,000 fans at Partizan Stadium.

"Of course I'm satisfied," said Powell, whose overseas season-opener had been delayed over a month because of knee trouble.

"What a relief. I'm really happy to get it over with. I'm happy with it and am looking forward to bigger things," he added.

Powell, who holds the 100-metre world record at 9.77 seconds, ran conservatively from the start and quickened away from the field after about 50 metres.

He strode to a convincing win ahead of Curaçao's Churandy Martina (10.11) and his Jamaican team-mate Michael Frater (10.19).

Apart from being a 2007 world best, erasing the previous mark of 9.98 by Bahamian Derrick Atkins, Powell's time was also the fastest ever recorded in Serbia.

"It's going to be a long season, it was 9.9, so I'm very happy," Powell said after clocking the 26th sub-10 clocking of his career.

Danger Promotions reports that Jah Cure fans have been leaving countless messages on the Curefest hotline: 1-888-Jah-Cure. While the support is not a surprise to the promoters, they were not expecting the overwhelming amount of calls in such a short span of time.

jahcure.jpg"There is a crazy amount of calls coming in daily. The hotline was established to give information about Curefest but fans have been leaving personal messages for Jah Cure. There is a lot of love out there for his music." Stated Della of Danger Promotions.

Danger Promotions asks that fans who leave messages on the 1-888-Jah-Cure line to be sure to leave their contact information to be able to receive Curefest and Jah Cure information.

On hearing about the messages left for him, Jah Cure expressed how grateful he was for the support. "I can feel the energy of my supporters from behind these walls. Zahra Redwood failed to win the Ms. Universe 2007 title on Monday night but she made Jamaica proud nevertheless. The contest was marred by political statements, boos and a major slip by Ms. USA during the evening gown segment where she slipped and fell on her bottom.

zahra.jpgEven though Zahra did well, one cannot escape the unsettling whiff of racism which lurk deep in the commentaries of some journalists covering the event.

For instance, a story published on Yahoo.com said: In another quirk for 2007, the long, twisted dreadlocks of Miss Jamaica, the contest's first ever Rastafarian participant, and the close-shaved head of Miss Tanzania stood out from the lacquered manes of the other contestants.

Why use this language to single out contestants of African descent? It speaks to the continued brainwashing of people using the media to suggest that peoples of African descent are inferior to those who have Caucasian features. But it shows that history and the perception thereof belongs to the conquerors and those who have the bigger guns.

Still, there may be hope, after all, the raven-haired Miss Japan, Riyo Mori, was crowned Miss Universe 2007.

This sweet lovers lullaby leaves the listener totally captivated as the words wash over them like a soothing balm. This one is unlike Murder She Wrote but has the same addictive vibes.

chaka_demus.jpgIn this day and age when most of the songs leave women feeling battered from the onslaught of the lyrics, Need Your Loving is the perfect remedy.

The song is already blasting across the airwaves as there has been good reception to the pre-released version. The duo is now putting the finishing touches on the video for the song.

Shot on location at Trafalgar Park and Airport Road under the direction of Leo, the plot is all about everlasting love, this according Chaka Demus.

Its a wonderful video and the concept is good, Pliers threw in as he talked about the upcoming video for the song.

Thats not the only thing the duo is up to, they are now focusing on re-releasing their album titled Back Off The Wall.

According to both artistes, they were unhappy with the promotion surrounding the first release of the album, and added to that it was not released in Jamaica or the Caribbean.

The new album will be coming with tracks such as Bounce, Man A Lion and the hot single that seems set to create a lot of noise in the dancehall Need Your Loving.

But then again, thats nothing new for this dynamic duo as success is nothing new to them. Chaka Demus & Pliers enjoyed overwhelming success on the British Charts. Between June 1993 and January 1995, they notched up a record five consecutive UK Top 20 entries, including Twist and Shout, their number one hit with Jack Radics. The duo became household names as a result; the combination of Pliers yearning vocals and Chaka Demus rockstone chat proving irresistible to their new found global audience, and earning them a gold disc for their debut album for Island Jamaica, Tease Me.

Jay-ZA former 40/40 waitress is sticking rapper Jay-Z and his club with a lawsuit claiming they were not paid legally required wages. According to New York's Daily News, former 40/40 waitress Celeste Williams filed a proposed class-action lawsuit in Manhattan Federal Court yesterday on behalf of herself and other workers, accusing co-owners of the 25th Street nightspot, Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter and Juan Perez, of taking a cut of workers' tips, "willfully failing and refusing to pay them at the legally required minimum wage" and overtime. "I find that this is a rampant violation throughout New York City," Williams' lawyer Maimon Kirschenbaum, was quoted by the New York Post. Kirschenbaum said other club employees have been reluctant to file similar claims out of fear of retaliation, but Williams' lawsuit estimates that over 100 staffers have been shortchanged by the club. In response, club management claims that Williams only worked at 40/40 for four days in December 2005, and club spokesman Ron Berkowitz has told the press that while 40/40 has yet to be served with papers, the allegations against the club are false. "That certainly is not true," Berkowitz told the Daily News. "Everyone makes the minimum wage at the club, 100%." Williams is seeking unspecified damages in her suit.

Reggae: Jah Cure denied parole

May 18, 2007

Those who have been longing for Siccaturie 'Jah Cure' Alc**ck to be released, will have a little while longer to see the singer.

Jah Cure, who was transferred to the Tower Street Adult Correctional
Centre from the St. Catherine Adult Correctional Centre about four
weeks ago, had his application for parole turned down last year despite
a passionate campaign launched by his clique of concerned friends,
family members, and entertainers. This was after he became eligible for
parole on July 28, 2003.

Jah Cure

Commissioner of Corrections Major Richard Reese said yesterday that a
prisoner can re-apply for parole within a year of being declined. The
Parole Board however, which decides whether or not to release a
prisoner, is separate from the Corrections Department.

Jah Cure was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment on April 26, 1999, for
two counts of rape, robbery with aggravation, and illegal possession of
firearm, all arising from the same incident. He received this sentence
at age 19.

Major Reese said that Alc**ck's earliest date of release, if he does not
breach any regulations, is July 28, 2007. However, if he breaks any
rules, he could stay in prison until July 18, 2011.

Disciplinary measures

Though many stories surround the reason for his transfer, the
commissioner would not say why Jah Cure had been transferred. He
explained that prisoners can be transferred for security reasons, to
give them access to rehabilitation, for disciplinary measures, or if
they are in conflict with other inmates. "We would prefer not to
disclose the specific reason, because it is really internal," Major
Reese stated.

However, Jah Cure's voice will continue to be preserved for posterity,
as Major Reese said that the singer will have access to recording
facilities. Speaking with THE STAR
at the opening of a computer laboratory at the Tower Street Adult
Correctional Centre on Monday, Major Reese said that he understood Jah
Cure had some recording equipment, and while it was still in Spanish
Town it would be brought over to Tower Street shortly.

When it does get there it will not be put in Jah Cure's cell he noted,
but will be in an area where he will have access to it. Apart from
music, though, Major Reese said, "What we want to get him into is an
education programme. Sometimes a person has an interest in a skill and
a vocation and that is all they pursue."

Monday's opening of the computer laboratory at the Tower Street Adult
Correctional Centre will also help Jah Cure and other inmates
interested in music, as it will form the basis of a digital recording
facility. Major Reese noted that, "all the relevant software will be
there," and inmates will be "able to produce their own music, " as well
as being advised of their intellectual property rights.

The commissioner said that it was possible for persons from outside the
prison to send in music for Jah Cure to use, but only at the singer's
request. However, do not look for him on stage at a show before he is
on parole or released totally.

"People have to understand that we are living in serious times. Persons
who commit serious violent offences will not be participating in
outside programmes. Whatever we do for one category, it goes for all.

| Jah Cure backlash?

Members of the entertainment fraternity believe that a number of acts of vandalism perpetrated against posters of Siccaturie Jah Cure Alc**ck that adorn the streets of Kingston advertising an upcoming show which will mark his release from jail shows that the tide of public opinion is turning against the singer.

jahcure.jpgA reporter observed last week that a number of Jah Cure posters had been defaced and destroyed and was informed by sources that it was done by persons unknown in the Corporate Area.

It was an isolated incident, and it only happened at one location, at  the corner of Eastwood Park and Red Hills Roads, and it was quickly corrected, publicist for Danger Zone Entertainment Allison Young said.

It is not symptomatic of a larger backlash against Jah Cure. These things do happen, Danger Zone has had other events in the past where posters have been taken down.Jah Cures popularity is still high, we have had people begging us to put up the posters and boards in their yards, and people always ask us for Jah Cure pictures so I dont believe that to be true.
