Back in 1966, a Zagreb, Croatia woman named Hedviga Golik made herself a cup of tea, sat down in front of her television set and prepared to watch a program she wanted to see. She never finished either the drink or the show.
Golik sadly passed away while she was relaxing by the tube that day. She was only 42 years of age.
The story isn't terribly unusual but what happened after that event is.
Friends and neighbours began to wonder whatever became of the woman who lived next door, but no one ever went over to investigate. Most assumed she'd simply moved out of the capital and carried on with her life.
Which is what makes this week's discovery both bizarre and tragic. After 42 long years, someone finally entered Golik's long closed-up apartment and found her remains still sitting in the same armchair where she'd sat to watch that show so many decades ago.
Now authorities are trying to figure out why no one caught on, why no relative ever came to call and how it's possible a residence could stay unattended for that length of time without somebody becoming suspicious.
Golik was reported missing way back when, but for some reason, no one ever checked her home. When cops finally went to investigate who owned the mysterious tiny apartment, they discovered Golik had never left it.
Cops are baffled by the stunning find and are planning to investigate how the poor woman's fate was left hanging for such a long time.
Former state minister and Senator, Kern Spencer, is hugged by two women as he left the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court in March. - File
THE CUBAN light-bulb spotlight will today be refocused on North East St Elizabeth Member of Parliament (MP) Kern Spencer and his co-accused, Rodney Chin and Coleen Wright, when they return to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court. Criminal charges against them are expected to be mentioned today.
Despite being arrested on February 25, and police having read out several charges against them, the Crown is yet to tell the court about the crime for which they have been accused. Nine charges have been read out against Spencer, four against Chin and six against Wright.
Charges
Spencer, a member of the Opposition People's National Party (PNP), has been accused of fraud and money-laundering. Wright and Chin face similar charges.
When they last appeared in court seven weeks ago, Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Paula Llewellyn told Resident Magistrate Glenn Brown that the Crown was not in a position to mention the charges against the three.
"The material is very voluminous and we have to be very detailed," the DPP told the court in providing justification for a request for another mention date.
Criminal investigations intensified in the Cuban light bulb scandal. The project, for which Spencer exercised ministerial oversight when the PNP held state power, racked up an alleged cost of $276 million.
Two 'in-laws' who had a dispute over who was responsible for paying a water bill, resulting in one losing two teeth, were referred to mediation to settle their differences.
The two appeared before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
Lisa Williams, 25, of Tower Hill in St James, who was charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm to her sister-in-law, said her actions constituted self-defence as the complainant attacked her.
The dispute was referred to mediation after the complainant, though spending only $14,900 in medical expenses, said she wanted $150,000 to settle the matter.
Exhorbitant sumHowever RM Winsome Henry believed that this sum was exorbitant, and suggested that they resolve their issues through mediation.
It is alleged that the mother of the complainant asked who was responsible for paying for the water bill. The complainant allegedly suggested that Williams pay. However the accused refused stating that she was not part of the family and began using expletives.
Further allegations are that the women became engaged in a tussle, which persons had to quell. However, Williams allegedly left and returned with a machete and a bottle. It is alleged that she through the bottle at the complainanthitting her in the mouth and causing her to lose two teeth.
But in court, Williams said that she had intervened in an argument between the complainant and her mother over a water bill. She said the complainant attacked her after she returned an insult about her child.
She said she had her baby in her arms when the complainant attacked her and even after another relative intervened, the complainant ran into her house to get a weapon and this was her reason for arming herself with the bottle and machete.
A notorious gang is wreaking havoc in and around sections of Waltham Park in St. Andrew, forcing residents to flee for their lives.
THE STAR has learnt that the Rat Bat gang, a group of thugs who operates in sections of the area, driving fear into the minds of residents, and has left several homes empty as families choose to seek refuge elsewhere. The residents who have been asked to leave are said to be against the hoodlums. But, other residents who were not told to leave have fled the communities as well.
"Me did haffi leave cause dem a gwaan real bad, trust me ... I have my kids fi live fah and mi nuh kno if a me dem ago come fa next," one resident, who contacted THE STAR and admitted that she had to leave her home, said.
Numerous persons from Crescent Road, Waltham Lane, Cemetery Lane and Julian Drive have reportedly fled their homes, in some cases, at the demand of thugs, THE STAR learnt.
A desire for turf and dominance is linked to the reports of intimidation and violence. "We had a meeting sometime last year and there was peace for seven months until now," Superintendent Derrick 'Cowboy' Knight, head of the Hunts Bay police, told THE STAR.
Superintendent Knight said the sudden flare-up of violence is as a result of the killing of 'Mr Heat', an influential resident, three weeks ago after he was released from prison.
"This thing erupted after Mr Heat was killed; the gang wants to control the whole place but he was against that, so they killed him," Superintendent Knight explained.
Since then there has been no more reported deaths; however, there has been reports of heavy gunfire.
When THE STAR visited Crescent Road recently, residents spoke openly of their fear of living in the area.
"Dem bwoy deh deadly eno yute, a dem a run di place and dem a run it a way, dem nuh tek nuh talk," one resident said.
"Yute man mi fraid, rite ya now mi a plan fi leave soon even though mi nuh kno weh me ago go yet ... Mi prefer go live inna one cave," an elderly resident living in the area for over 40 years said.
To make matters worse, another resident, Mary Jane, who also had plans of vacating her community confirmed that some residents are being ordered to leave by gang members.
"Jus like me, yu have some people who nuh fraid fi talk how dem feel ... so di so called shotta dem a sen order seh wi fi leave cause wi nuh wit dem," she explained.
Meanwhile, the police say they have an interest in certain individuals and will be continuing their investigations while maintaining a strong presence in the area.A BOY of five died from a severe reaction to chicken pox after being turned away from a hospital.
Little Fabio Nunes was unable to talk or walk when his worried parents took him to the East Surrey Hospital in Redhill, Surrey.
Yet medical staff there said he was fine and sent him home.
Three days later he was rushed to hospital and died after 12 days.
An inquest said the cause was multi-organ failure.
The rare reaction can occur if there is an immune deficiency.
Fabios dad Ricardo, 35, of Redhill, said last night: He was so weak and ill. If the hospital had checked him properly hed be alive today.
Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust is investigating the tragedy.
Cash Plus investors will have to wait at least another month to hear whether they will be getting back money they placed into the company.
The court-appointed receiver/ manager Kevin Bandoian, yesterday presented his report on the status of Cash Plus to the court for approval.
But Cash Plus attorney Paul Beswick raised preliminary objections to some of the points in the document.
Beswick claimed it was an employee of Cash Plus who filed the application for the company to go into receivership.
He further contended that, under the Companies Act, the employee has no authority to make the application and, therefore, the receivership and takeover of the company was illegal.
Beswick was ordered by High Court judge Marva McIntosh to prepare an affidavit outlining his concerns.
He is to submit the affidavit on June 23 when the matter is to be heard again in the Supreme Court.
Payout difficulties
Cash Plus was placed into receivership more than two months ago, after the company started to experience difficulties in paying out principal and interest.
Since then, head of the investment scheme, Carlos Hill; his brother, Bertram, and the company's chief executive officer, Peter Wilson, have been arrested on fraud charges.
When they reappeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday, the prosecution asked for more time to prepare its case.
The accused men had their bail extended to July 17, when they are to return to court.

Jun Parreno, the boy's father, told The Vancouver Sun the mix-up occurred Monday as he, his wife and two grandparents of the child, J.M., were scrambling between their arrival in Canada and a connecting flight to Winnipeg on Air Canada.
Running late after having to unpack and repack all their luggage, "we had 10 minutes before boarding," said Parreno, who was emigrating with his family from the Philippines. "We were running for the gate."
He said he thought his son was with the three other adults, who were running to the gate ahead of him, and they thought the little boy was with him.
Instead, in a scenario similar to the movie "Home Alone," the toddler was wandering alone between a security checkpoint and the flight gates, said Angela Mah, an Air Canada representative.
"We were called by (security) who told us one of the security people had a toddler in tow," Mah said. "He doesn't speak English, so we found a Tagalog-speaking agent who has been looking after him."
There was no boarding pass for the youngster because he did not have a separately assigned seat, so there was no indication in the airline's computer system that someone had missed a flight, nor had there been any panicked calls from anyone on a flight missing a child, Mah said.
That's because the family was scattered in different parts of the plane to Winnipeg and still didn't know the child had been left.
Air Canada staff began checking flights that had left, and "we eventually determined who his parents might be ... and the flight crew talked to them," Mah said. "They didn't realize until then that the baby had been left behind.
"We're not aware of this ever happening on an Air Canada flight before."
The parents were put into telephone contact with the little boy, and Parreno was put on another Air Canada plane to return to Vancouver to get him after the family's flight arrived in Winnipeg with the airline covering the cost of the two additional flights, she said.
Parreno had tears in his eyes when he returned to Winnipeg holding his son.
"I am relieved everything is OK ... but I was shocked," he said. "The staff at Air Canada took good care of him."
Nintendo was ordered on Wednesday to pay $21M to Anascape, a small East Texas gaming company, for infringing on a patent for gaming controllers.
The lawsuit was originally filed in 2006 by Anascape, which targeted both Microsoft and Nintendo for infringement of 12 patents issued between 1999 and 2005. Anascape sought compensation, including interest, from the revenues generated by both companies as a result of the claimed infringements.
A jury found that Nintendo had infringed on the Anascape patents in the design of the GameCube, WaveBird and Wii Classic controllers.
According to comments recorded by the Associated Press, Nintendo spokesman Charlie Scibetta said that the company will seek an appeal and hopes that the infringement award would be reduced significantly. No infringement was found with the motion-sensing scheme used on the Wii Remote or Nunchuk.
Microsoft avoided the jury ruling as it had settled with Anascape on terms that remain confidential.
While $21M may sound like a hefty sum, its not quite as painful as the $91 million Sony had to hand over to Immersion for its use of force feedback vibration technology. Sony and Immersion coming to an agreement then ruffled the feathers of Microsoft, who in turned launched its own legal complaint.
Sony, who was oddly not a part of the Anascape suit, recently launched its third-generation DualShock controller in North America.

Fears rose last night that the final death toll could top 50,000.
The official figure was put at 15,000 but more than 39,000 people were known to be buried or missing.
Thousands more will be at risk if the 391 dams damaged by the quake give way.

ABE Dabdoub yesterday went ahead with his appeal in the dual citizenship case, seeking to have the West Portland seat awarded to him instead of contesting the by-election ordered by the Supreme Court, following the disqualification of Daryl Vaz.
Lawyers for Dabdoub - the People's National Party's (PNP) candidate in the September 2007 general elections - said Chief Justice Zaila McCalla, in her April 11, ruling erred in finding as a matter of fact and law that there should be a by-election and not a return of [Dabdoub] as the duly nominated member of the constituency.
The chief justice, said the lawyers, also erred in finding "as a matter of law and fact" that the Notice of Disqualification issued by Dabdoub before the September 3 general elections informing electors that the Jamaica Labour Party's Vaz held US citizenship and that votes for him would be wasted was not clear, definite and certain "in that it does not state any act of acknowledgement by" Vaz.
When the matter comes up for hearing Dabdoub will be asking the appellate court to name him the duly nominated candidate for the constituency and so give him the seat.
Dabdoub is also set to ask the court to vary Justice McCalla's order to say that Vaz was not only disqualified as a member of the House of Representatives because of his actions in applying for and travelling on his US passport, but also because he is a US citizen, which she had not took into consideration in making her judgement.
Dabdoub is also appealing McCalla's decision that he pick up the tab for the trial, which includes Vaz's legal fees.
If Dabdoub's appeal is successful, Jamaicans could be heading to the polls for fresh general elections as Prime Minister Bruce Golding, whose JLP has a slim majority in the 60-member House, has already indicated that he would not be allowing persons not elected to sit in the House of Representatives.
Vaz, a junior minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, has since renounced his United States citizenship and said he would be contesting the seat if a by-election is called. He had also made calls for Dabdoub to end the legal battle and allow the people of West Portland to decide who they want as their representative.
Dabdoub, following his defeat at the polls last year, filed an election petition against Vaz who was the holder of a US citizenship, which he said he got at birth through his mother.
The constitution, Dabdoub said during the trial, did not allow persons who are under allegiance to foreign powers to sit in the House of Representatives. Citing several authorities, Dabdoub asked the court to give him the seat.
VAZ
The Court battle for the West Portland seat has intensified with Member of Parliament (MP) Daryl Vaz filing a surprise appeal yesterday, seeking to overturn the April 11 court ruling, which ousted him from Parliament.
Vaz filed the appeal in the Court of Appeal yesterday, a day after Abe Dabdoub, who represented the People's National Party (PNP), made good on his promise to appeal against chief justice's ruling that a by-election take place to determine the MP for the constituency.
Dabdoub had filed an election petition seeking to be returned as the MP for West Portland.
Stay of judgment
McCalla disqualified Vaz on the basis that he was the holder of a United States passport and, by virtue of travelling on it and renewing it, he had pledged allegiance to a foreign power. A 42-day stay of the judgment was granted so Vaz will remain MP until May 23.
Vaz had earlier given notice that he would be going back to the polls to retain his seat and had encouraged the PNP leadership to allow the people to decide, not the court.
He is contending that the chief justice erred when she ruled that on nomination day, August 7 last year, he was not qualified to be elected to the House of Representatives.
Under the Constitution, no person who has pledged allegiance to a foreign power shall sit in the House of Representatives or in the Senate.
Grounds of appeal
Dabdoub
Also among the grounds of appeal filed by his lawyers, Ransford Braham and Suzanne Risden-Foster, Vaz contends that McCalla's ruling is flawed because "on the one hand, she held incorrectly that the words 'acknowledgement of allegiance obedience and adherence to a foreign power', contained in section 40(2) of the Jamaican Constitution, are wide enough to embrace a citizen who is a subject or a citizen of a foreign power.
Vaz claims the chief justice contradicted herself when she held that, by virtue of the provisions of the Constitution of Jamaica, a Jamaican by birth, descent or registration who is also a dual citizen cannot be deprived of his Jamaican citizenship and that the first respondent (Vaz) is therefore entitled to the rights and privileges afforded to him as a dual citizen.
Vaz polled 944 votes more than Dabdoub in the general election and was declared the MP. Dabdoub, however, said he should have been declared the MP as Vaz has been found not to be qualified to be elected to the House of Representatives.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A 15-year-old girl charged along with her 22-year-old boyfriend in the murder of a Melrose man was returned from Texas overnight and booked into the Putnam County Jail early Friday morning.
Morgan Amanda Leppert, who was reported missing April 22 and believed with Toby Lee Lowry when deputies found the body of 66-year-old James Stewart on May 1. When deputies found the dead man's telephone number in Leppert's cell phone records and the couple was spotted headed west on Interstate 10 in Stewart's stolen pickup truck, a nationwide Amber Alert was issued.
Leppert and Lowry were arrested in El Paso, Texas, two days after Stewart's beaten, stabbed and suffocated body was found in his home.
Lowry was extradited from Texas on May 10 and booked on charges of murder, car theft, interference with custody of a child and panhandling.
Leppert remained in the custody of juvenile justice authorities in Texas until Thursday.
After appearing before a judge Friday morning to hear the murder charge against her, Leppert will be turned over to the custody of Florida's Department of Juvenile Justice.
Prosecutors expect that she will be tried as an adult.
Lori Drew of suburban St. Louis allegedly helped create a false-identity MySpace account to contact Megan Meier, who thought she was chatting with a 16-year-old boy named Josh Evans. Josh didn't exist.
Megan hanged herself at home in October 2006 after receiving cruel messages, including one stating the world would be better off without her.
Salvador Hernandez, assistant agent in charge of the Los Angeles FBI office, called the case heart-rending.
"The Internet is a world unto itself. People must know how far they can go before they must stop. They exploited a young girl's weaknesses," Hernandez said. "Whether the defendant could have foreseen the results, she's responsible for her actions."
She's denied sending messages
Drew was charged with one count of conspiracy and three counts of accessing protected computers without authorization to get information used to inflict emotional distress on the girl.
Drew has denied creating the account or sending messages to Megan.
U.S. Attorney Thomas P. O'Brien said this was the first time the federal statute on accessing protected computers has been used in a social-networking case. It has been used in the past to address hacking.
"This was a tragedy that did not have to happen," O'Brien said.
Both the girl and MySpace are named as victims in the case, he said.
MySpace is a subsidiary of Beverly Hills-based Fox Interactive Media Inc., which is owned by News Corp. The indictment noted that MySpace computer servers are located in Los Angeles County.
Due to juvenile privacy rules, the U.S. attorney's office said, the indictment refers to the girl as M.T.M.
FBI agents in St. Louis and Los Angeles investigated the case, Hernandez said.
GEORGES PLAIN, Westmoreland - Residents of this rural district were still in shock yesterday as they mourned for an elderly businessman and one of his customers, who were brutally murdered by gunmen during a robbery here Wednesday night.
Another man was injured in the shooting.
The 73-year-old businessman, Alvin Lettman, better known in the district as 'Cooker', and one of his customers, 56-year-old tractor driver Robert Guthrie, were at Lettman's store when they were shot during a hold-up.
Police spokesman Corporal Thomozene Foster said while Lettman, Gutherie and the other man were in the store, two men entered, one of whom made an order for goods. While being served, the police spokesman said the man and his crony brandished guns and demanded money from the proprietor and his two customers.
The armed men, after robbing the three of an undisclosed sum of money and the proprietor of several pre-paid cellular phone cards, opened fire on the three then fled the scene in a car that was waiting for them outside the store.
The businessman's son, Elvis Lettman, a police sergeant stationed in Moneague, St Ann, said his dad's murder was the materialisation of his worst fear.
"Due to the rampant murders going around in the island it was my worst fear. that they would attack him because I know he doesn't have a gun," the distraught son said. "I had spoken to my seniors and told them that I wanted a transfer to come nearer to my mother and father."
Meanwhile, a s****re-looking Ian Hayles, MP for the Opposition People's National Party, who had lived near to the businessman during his childhood days, said "Mr Lettman practically grew me up".
"I have never made any serious decision in my life without consulting him, and that is the kind of Jamaican he is," added Hayles. "He is a good, decent, honest man and a caring Jamaican who always ensures that if you come to his business place and did not have sufficient funds you would never leave without the goods."
Wednesday's murders followed closely on another double killing in the parish last week when rampaging gunmen went on a robbery and shooting spree in the Top Road section of Little London. In that attack, 41-year-old businessman Stephen Thompson and 40-year-old labourer, Burton Little were killed.

Jorge Espinal, 44, was drinking beer and playing poker around 3 a.m. Sunday in his home in the 3500 block of Montague Street, when he got up from the table and walked into another room, said Fort Worth police Lt. Kenneth Dean.
He told officers he had an itch on his back and grabbed the first thing he could get a hold of, which was a revolver, Lt. Dean said. The gun went off."
Mr. Espinal went back and told his buddies that he shot himself. They didnt believe him until they saw the *lo** coming down his back, Lt. Dean said.
Mr. Espinal was taken to an area hospital, where he was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.

Console wars are the sweet fuel to all fanboy discussions, and whenever a representative of a particular games company says something particularly scathing about the competition, explosions are sure to follow.
Xbox product manager Aaron Greenberg recently spoke out in an interview with Destructoid regarding all the apparent shortcomings of Sonys current PlayStation execution. We have been fighting Sonys promises from the day we entered the market and if you remember at that time it was all about PS2 being an online cybercity with partner announcements from the likes of RealNetworks and AOL, he said.
Greenbergs comments were in response to a question regarding whether or not Microsoft would be able to stand up against what will likely be PlayStation 3s best year yet with games such as Metal Gear Solid 4, LittleBigPlanet, among others. But Greenberg isnt completely taken with Sonys software promises, saying, Then three years ago at E3 they showed what PS3 games would supposedly look like with the Killzone 2 video, that we are now learning will ship four years later. That means that we will have shipped Gears of War and Gears of War 2 before they can even get Killzone out the door.
PlayStation Home was announced at the Game Developers Conference in March 2007, and is more than a year behind schedule, although Greenberg figured it as two years. Think back to GDC 2007 when Sony promised to leap ahead in online with the Sony Home unveil. Here we are two years later and multiple delays for a product that has appears to have little to no buzz.
Greenberg then opened the floodgates with a barrage of critical questions: Where are the achievements? The friends list integration across all games? Where is the long-promised video store? Where are all the other products using and networking with their CELL chip? How come Blu-ray did not result in better games? What happened with Sixaxis and rumble? Where is the complete 1080p game library we were promised? If Blu-ray as they said would be such a catalyst to PS3 console sales, then why have PS3 sales over the past couple months not seen any lift since the format victory?
With all that said, Greenberg returned to preaching the strengths of the Xbox 360. The reality is that Xbox 360 is leading this generation with a larger installed base, more than 2xs the games library, the most exclusives along with the leading online service and community. While we have not yet announced all of our plans for the full year, I am confident that we will extend our lead over the PS3 in 2008, he said.
While the best of 2008 has yet to arrive (with the exception of Grand Theft Auto IV), the fight for second place is far from over. The first place, of course, appears to be firmly in the grasp of Nintendo with its Wii.
Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter predicted that even with the release of Rockstars latest open-world hit, the Wii would be the top selling console of April by a huge margin. Pachter estimated that the Wii outsold the PS3 and Xbox 360 c****ined, though he also figured that Sonys machine sold more than Microsofts console. NPD Group findings will be available this Friday
Sociologists and children's rights advocates are calling for more aggressive legislation and stricter penalties to control the sale of pornographic and other sexually pervasive material to underage children in the wake of an increase in the number of incidents involving students performing sexual deeds in the island's schools.
Selling to students
The call is also in relation to an undercover investigation conducted by The Gleaner in the Corporate Area, which revealed that streetside vendors have been selling illegal copies of pornographic videos and other publications to students.
Senior Superintendent George Quallo, who is in charge of the St Andrew Central Police Division, told The Gleaner the sale of reproduced DVDs, whether containing pornographic images or not, is a criminal offence under the Copyright Act and perpetrators can be arrested and charged.
Children's Advocate Mary Clarke, however, said that, at present, there is no law that appropriately speaks to the sale of sexually explicit material to children.
The only such legislation would be the Obscene Publications (Suppression of) Act of 1927, which makes it illegal for individuals to trade, distribute or possess obscene materials, she said.
"But the penalties are ridiculously low and outdated," Clarke said.
A person convicted under this act could be fined a sum of $40 or three months in prison, with or without hard labour.
Audrey Budhi, director of policy planning at the Child Development Agency (CDA), said the Government and several agencies involved in the protection of children have been working to develop a child pornography act, which would make it illegal to produce, possess orcirculate pornographic material involving children.
She further said that, since the bill is now under review, it is hoped that cases involving the sale of obscene publications to children would also be included and stricter penalties would be applied for adults who made such material available to children.
Budhi said adults should be aware that it is nothing short of child abuse and indecent assault when adults provide children with such material.
Sylvester Anderson, president of the National Parent-Teachers' Association of Jamaica (NPTAJ), expressed shock at the fact that pornographic videos were being sold to students and said many of the vendors need to be made aware that what they are doing is not only morally wrong but also illegal.
"The fact of the matter is, many of these individuals are not concerned with whom they sell this material to," he said. "The aim is to make money so they couldn't care less whether it's a student or not."
In recent years, there has been an increase in the circulation of pornographic recordings - whether by cellphone or email - showing persons, particularly schoolchildren, having sex.
Two months ago, yet another video surfaced depicting two students at a Jamaican high school engaged in a sexual act.
U want fi know the funny thing bout dis. The same uptown ppl dat ah advocate this, ah the same ppl that go to freaky parties DO AS I SAY BUT NOT AS I DO!!!

PHOENIX (AP) -- DMX has pleaded not guilty to felony drug possession and misdemeanor animal cruelty charges.
A judge entered the plea for the musician-actor (real name: Earl Simmons) at a brief court hearing Thursday. Simmons was late for court.
The 37-year-old rapper was indicted last week on 11 counts, including felony marijuana and paraphernalia possession and seven counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty.
The charges stem from an August raid by authorities investigating if he was neglecting 12 pit bulls at his Phoenix home. Some were dehydrated and appeared to be underfed. Three were found buried in his back yard.
The rapper has had previous run-ins with the law. In June 2006, Scottsdale police cited him for carrying a concealed handgun outside a nightclub. He also served 70 days in jail in 2005 for violating his parole following a 2004 incident in which he posed as an undercover federal agent and crashed his sport utility vehicle through a security gate at Kennedy International Airport.
DMX recorded the 1999 hit single "Party Up (Up in Here)." His last album, "Year of the Dog ... Again," was released last year.

Rumours have been circulating that dancehall artiste Munga Honourable has left the Vendetta family after being dismissed as being "false" by producer Don Corleon.
The rumours had been circulating on the Internet and radio since last week that Munga and Don Corleon have parted ways.
It was reported that Munga Honourable, real name Damian Rhoden, might be leaving the record company, which he has been working with since 2005 when he recorded Bad Like I on Corleon's 'Sweat' rhythm.
Munga now works exclusively with Don Corleon with whom he recorded popular hits like Bad From Mi Born, Wine Pon It, Talk Dem A Talk, Flipping Rhymes, Nuh Fraid and Take My Place.
Unofficial reports are that an argument erupted between the two over musical matters. One entertainment website recently wrote, "the streets ah talk say Munga and Don Corleon nah link straight again because Munga waan voice fi some other producers and Don ah screw pon that. To the vibes, mi hear say dem kick off wicked and arguments and all these things."
However, when contacted about the rumours, producer Don Corleon denied that this was true. He told THE STAR, "No me and Munga is good."
Adding, "I think that the reason for this (the recent rumours) is people didn't see him on my new rhythm 'Double Joint', so people jump to conclusions."
When THE STAR tried to get a comment from Munga however, he declined to speak on the matter.
Munga Honourable recently released Spray It Like A Hose, which is also a Don Corleon production. Munga is scheduled to perform in Japan and Cayman this month and then in England in June.
"We are now at the point where we are going to limited tender for some equipment and sourcing others ...," said energy minister Clive Mullings.
Mullings has set a new target date of October to have E10 available commercially to motorists.
The roll out requires state refinery Petrojam to retrofit its loading and storage facilities, Mullings said, while fuel pumps at service stations will also need special seals to prevent water absorption in the fuel, which is said to be more likely to happen with ethanol in the fuel, as opposed to MBTE-enhanced gasolene.
No definite date
But Mullings also indicated that legislation is being crafted around the programme, the elements of which he was due to discuss with marketing companies this month, but was unable to say when the bill would reach Parliament.
He indicated that the legislation was the main cause of the delay in getting the E10 programme off the ground.
Growing oil bill
Jamaica's oil import bill is said to be in reach of US$2.2 billion, and growing at an annual four per cent.
With oil prices on the rise, the replacement of MTBE in gasoline with 10 per cent ethanol is one of several initiatives under consideration to cut Jamaica's dependence on crude imports.
It is estimated that 70,000 litres of ethanol would be required annually to replace the 10 per cent MTBE in gasolene.
That amount of ethanol also requires an additional 30,000 acres of land for planting cane to be used as feedstock for the biofuel.
In a six-month pilot in 2006, E10 was tested on 70 government vehicles, which used Petrojam-produced ethanol instead of imported MTBE as fuel enhancer.
As the crime wave continues to grip the country, gunmen shot six more persons, three fatally, in western Jamaica in just over a 16-hour period.
The first incident occurred in the quiet community of Georges Plain in Westmoreland, where 73-year-old businessman Alvis Lettman was shot five times at his supermarket on Wednesday evening.
The shooting, which occurred about 7:15 p.m., also claimed the life of 56-year-old Robert Guthrie, while a 34-year-old man was wounded.
"I get to understand that, after two men entered his store, one of them ordered some items. Shortly after that one of them pulled a gun and ordered my father to give them money and a gun. But my father does not own a firearm and they shot him five times," Elvis Lettman told The Gleaner.
Community activist
He described his father as a community activist and a kind individual who had lived in Georges Plain for 50 years.
"He was well known by everyone here and he would stop at nothing to extend kindness to his community at large," Lettman said.
Shopkeeper Angelina Cooper expressed similar sentiments about Alvis Lettman.
"A long time me know Mr Lettman an mi can't believe sey dem kill the man just so," she shared.
Lettman's attackers reportedly escaped with an unknown sum of money and a quantity of phone cards. Both Lettman and Guthrie were pronounced dead at hospital, while the injured man was admitted in stable condition.
On Thursday, the police were called to Cornwall Courts, near Green Pond, St James, after gunmen killed 43-year-old Crystal 'Bumpy' Sawyers of Salt Spring and injured another man.
Reports are that, about 10:45 a.m., Sawyers and a man were standing along Ramtallie Boulevard when a grey and white car carrying four men drove up to them. The men alighted from the vehicle, brandished guns and fired. Sawyers died on the spot. The car was later found burnt and abandoned in another section of the community.
Meanwhile, at 10:50 a.m., Larry Robinson, also known as 'Larry King', a 30-year-old accountant, was gunned down at his gate on Brown's Lane in Granville, St James. Investigators said his murder was linked to the lottery scam.
The growing number of murder accused out on bail and deplorable working conditions of some police personnel were concerns raised by senior officers at an emergency meeting with Prime Minister Bruce Golding and National Security Minister Colonel Trevor MacMillan this week.
"Some officers also expressed their disgust over statements made recently by (Police) Commissioner (Rear Admiral Hardley) Lewin," said a senior officer who spoke with The Gleaner yesterday.
Lewin was also present at the meeting.
Complaints
The senior officer and others who were at the meeting told The Gleaner the statements made by the commissioner had plunged the membership into a state of low morale. In the meantime, several rank-and-file members have complained bitterly about how they are being spoken to and treated by some commanding officers.
A popular superintendent said the prime minister told the meeting the issue was a matter Lewin would have to deal with. The officer also said some members spoke openly about their concerns.
A release from the Office of the Prime Minister yesterday stated that "concerns were raised by members of the officer corps on matters relating to courts and how sentencing is done for certain offences".
It continued: "The officers also had concerns relating to the physical condition of some police stations."
Prime Minister Golding gave the assurance he would address those concerns through the commissioner and national security minister. This is interesting...but TRUE |

GROWING UP in the music business can be challenging for children, but talented violinist, Jessica Yapp, continues to strive ahead with ease.
A musical genius, Jessica has been amazing audiences from very young, having yearned to play the violin since she was one. Now at 14 years old, Jessica keeps reeling in the performances, having blown away audiences at shows such as the World Skills Competition put on by HEART Trust, various fund-raising events, including the recent fund-raiser put on by Lorna Golding, among countless others.
Although just a fourth former at Campion College, Jessica has been gaining considerable media coverage and recognition of her talent. According to Jessica, she is always treated like just another student. C****ining classical music with dancehall and reggae/pop, Jessica has developed a signature sound that she plans to further augment.
Jessica plans to eventually pursue medicine, but music will always be a part of her life. "It sometimes gets kinda difficult cause I like to consider it as having two jobs, music and school. I plan to do music, but still have another career," she said.
An interesting life
For Jessica's mother, Rose-Marie Yapp, she has no fears for her daughter in the ever-changing and sometimes cut-throat business. She told The Gleaner, "Everyone we've dealt with deals with her in a positive way. Her manager deals with her career very well."
Mrs Yapp strongly believes her daughter can pursue medicine and music, as she cites pianist Dr Kathy Brown as a successful example. "I think it's a good thing her doing music and being able to pursue them both. She is blessed, she can do music yet focus on school. It makes life more interesting," Rose-Marie commented.
Jessica has quite a few shows coming up, including one trip to the United States.
Remy Sentenced To 8 Years, Papoose Collides W/ Court Officers Over Verdict |
Just minutes ago, incarcerated rapper Remy Ma was sentenced to 8 years in Manhattan Criminal Court for weapons and coercion charges. On March 27 a Manhattan jury convicted Remy of first-degree assault, criminal weapons charges and attempted coercion, for shooting her former friend, Makeda Barnes-Jospeh, in the abdomen last July. The two were in a dispute over the rapper's missing $3,000 that Remy accused the victim of stealing.Remy (born Reminisce Smith) was initially scheduled to be sentenced on April 23, however, Judge Rena Uviller postponed the trial until today, granting the Grammy nominated rapper's attorney, Ivan Fisher, additional time to properly prepare for the date. Today, Remy wept as she pleaded to the judge. "I stand here today as Remy Mackie," she said with tears in her eyes as she asked for leniency. "I'm a loving wife, mother and loving daughter and loving sister to my brothers and sisters." Remy also addressed Barnes-Joseph. "I apologize for not saving you from your physical and mental scars." Before delivering the sentence of 8 years, the judge gave a statement. "I've learned Remy is an intelligent and charitable young woman," the judge said. "She's overcome a difficult childhood. Her music has inspired people in need. She's loved and has support from her family." After the complementary remarks, the judge turned her remarks to accountability. "This is somewhat of a pattern. This is not the first time she has been engaged in a violent act. She never took responsibility for her actions. This has nothing to do with rap it's about the actions of one person. Remy is an extremely angry young woman who feels the rules do not apply to her." After the sentencing, Papoose got into a shoving match with a court officer. "All y'all want is f**king money," he yelled. "This is bullshit." Remy's mother and others, who had painted Remy on their faces in red, had to restrain Pap. Remy and her fiancé Papoose were scheduled to wed at Rikers Island yesterday, but after Pap allegedly attempted to smuggle a handcuff key into the jail the ceremony was called off. |
