Recent talks that popular music producer Tarik 'Russian' Johnston had been shot and killed have proven to be untrue.
The rumours spread like wildfire after an incident which the producer was involved in unfolded on Saturday in Dunrobin Acres, St Andrew.
When contacted, Johnston told THE STAR that there was no truth behind the rumours as he said, "False rumours. Nutten nuh guh suh."
He could not comment further as he was engaged in other affairs at the moment.
When contacted, Russian's publicist was also reluctant to comment on the issue.
According to police, a schoolboy was being robbed in Dunrobin Acres when a group of persons converged, held, and began to beat the robber. Johnston then came on to the scene and fired a shot in the air from his licensed firearm. Another licensed firearm holder who was in the crowd then returned fire. Johnston ran and climbed a wall and as a result, received an injury to his shoulder.
The world middleweight and superweight boxer, Chris Eubank (left), and former world heavyweight champ, Lennox Lewis, show the tools of their trade to Something Extra at a reception on Friday night in Hanover at James and Manuela Goren's home.
The matter was the hot topic for fans of the producer on social networking websites such as Twitter and Facebook.
Among the rumours posted on social networking website Facebook, included one that said: 'It has been confirmed Russian wuz shot in da hand on Red Hills Road ... apparently they were tryn to rob him but he escaped. KMT ... everyday is anotha target ...'
Others tried to dismiss the rumours with posts like: 'Russian didn't get shot people' and 'Russian cah get shot clowns, Kartel gi him super cake soap!'
Johnston, who is a member of Head Concussion Records, came on the scene following his work on Vybz Kartel's Life Sweet and he is also known for popular rhythms such as Go Go Club, Remedy and Nuh Fear, among others, and for his production work on recent tracks such as I-Octane's Mine Who You A Diss, Chan Dizzy's Nuh Strange Face and Vybz Kartel's Lyricist.

Ziona Chana also has 94 children, 14-daughters-in-law and 33 grandchildren.
They live in a 100-room, four storey house set amidst the hills of Baktwang village in the Indian state of Mizoram, where the wives sleep in giant communal dormitories.
The full monty: The Ziona family in its entirety with all 181 members
You treat this place like a hotel: With 100 rooms the Ziona mansion is the biggest concrete structure in the hilly village of Baktawng
Mr Chana told the Sun: 'Today I feel like God's special child. He's given me so many people to look after.
'I consider myself a lucky man to be the husband of 39 women and head of the world's largest family.'
The family is organised with almost military discipline, with the oldest wife Zathiangi organising her fellow partners to perform household chores such as cleaning, washing and preparing meals.
One evening meal can see them pluck 30 chickens, peel 132lb of potatoes and boil up to 220lb of rice.
Coincidentally, Mr Chana is also head of a sect that allows members to take as many wives as he wants.

The wives and I: Mr Ziona Chana poses with his 39 wives at their home in Baktawang, Mizoram, India
He even married ten women in one year, when he was at his most prolific, and enjoys his own double bed while his wives have to make do with communal dormitories.
He keeps the youngest women near to his bedroom with the older members of the family sleeping further away - and there is a rotation system for who visits Mr Chana's bedroom.
Rinkmini, one of Mr Chana's wives who is 35 years old, said: 'We stay around him as he is the most important person in the house. He is the most handsome person in the village.
She says Mr Chana noticed her on a morning walk in the village 18 years ago and wrote her a letter asking for her hand in marriage.

Another of his wives, Huntharnghanki, said the entire family gets along well. The family system is reportedly based on 'mutual love and respect'
And Mr Chana, whose religious sect has 4,00 members, says he has not stopped looking for new wives.
'To expand my sect, I am willing to go even to the U.S. to marry,' he said.
One of his sons insisted that Mr Chana, whose grandfather also had many wives, marries the poor women from the village so he can look after them.
A little long, but here it is.. Banton's story in my country.
TAMPA, Fla. Grammy-winning reggae singer Buju Banton was convicted Tuesday of conspiring to set up a cocaine deal in 2009, a verdict that elicited anguish and disbelief among supporters in a crowded courtroom and from other artists in his native Jamaica. Buju
A federal jury Banton deliberated for 11 hours over two days on the fate of Banton, who won a Grammy last week for best reggae album for his work entitled Before the Dawn. He was found guilty of three of four charges, and his attorney said hes facing at least 15 years in prison.
The 37-year-old Banton, whose given name is Mark Myrie, remains wildly popular in Jamaica, and the trial his second over the drug accusations was packed with supporters that included other well-known reggae artists. The first trial ended in a mistrial last year after the jury deadlocked.
The tall, dreadlocked singer didnt react when a clerk read the verdict on Tuesday. He stood, hugged his attorneys, then turned around and blew kisses to his supporters in the courtroom and told them: Thank you. A woman yelled out We love you, Buju! as U.S. marshals led him away.
Obviously we are all upset and disappointed and emotional, said Bantons attorney, David Markus of Miami. The only person who seems to be OK is Buju. He told us he was happy that he fought, knowing he was innocent.
Markus said he plans to appeal the conviction and will file a motion to try to get Banton out of jail on bond in the meantime.
Banton was found guilty of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute cocaine, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense and using a telephone to facilitate a drug trafficking offense. He was acquitted of attempted possession with the intent to distribute cocaine.
No date has been set for his sentencing.
Assistant U.S. Attorney James Preston argued during trial that Banton portrayed himself as a broker of drug deals in several conversations with a confidential informant. Preston said Banton thought he was getting involved in a no-risk deal in which he would introduce a friend to a confidential informant, and then later collect money from drug transactions.
Prosecutors acknowledge that Banton did not put any money into the drug deal, nor did he ever profit from it. Markus said his client is a big talker who admitted to trying to impress the confidential informant but wasnt involved in any drug deal.
Much of the case hinged on meetings and phone calls that were video-and audiotaped by the informant, who was working with the Drug Enforcement Administration and who made $50,000 in commission after the bust.
In one video, Banton could be seen tasting cocaine in a Sarasota warehouse on Dec. 8, 2009 but he was not present during the actual drug deal on Dec. 10 that led two others to be arrested. Those two men later pleaded guilty.
Banton testified that that the informant badgered him after they met on a trans-Atlantic flight in July 2009 and insisted that they meet to set up a cocaine purchase. He said he was so uninterested in the informants proposals that after they met twice, Banton didnt return the mans phone calls for months.
Marijuana users sometimes report that pot enhances their desire for sex. But a new review of research on marijuana and sexual health suggests that male smokers could be courting sexual dysfunction.
Research on the topic is contradictory and few studies are high-quality, said study researcher Rany Shamloul, a physician with appointments at the University of Ottawa and Queen's University in Canada as well as the University of Cairo. But recent research including the finding that the penis contains receptors for marijuana's active ingredient suggests that young men may want to think about long-term effects before rolling a joint, Shamloul told LiveScience.
"It's a strong message to our younger generations and younger men," Shamloul said.
Shamloul reported his findings online Jan. 26 in the Journal of Sexual Medicine.
Sex and drugs
Scientists first began to study marijuana and sex in the 1970s. Some researchers found that cannabis seemed to have the effect of a love drug; in one 1982 study published in the Journal of Psychoactive Drugs, 75 percent of male pot smokers said the drug enhanced their sex lives. Meanwhile, another study published in the same journal the same year found that erectile dysfunction was twice as common in marijuana users not such good news for lit lotharios. Other research suggests a dose effect, in which small amounts of marijuana have little impact on sexual dysfunction, but more marijuana makes for fewer erections.
But problems are rife with this research, Shamloul said, because none of the studies used validated measurement techniques when surveying men about their sexual function. The different questions used could skew the responses, as could the drug itself, he noted in the review. The 39 percent of men in the original 1982 study who said marijuana extended the duration of sex may just have been experiencing the drug's altering effects on the perception of time.
What most concerns Shamloul is a study published in 2010 in the
journal European Urology. In that study, researchers found receptors for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the active ingredient in marijuana, in penis tissue from five male patients and six rhesus monkeys. These receptors were mainly in the smooth muscle of the penis, Shamloul said. Additional lab studies suggest that THC has an inhibitory effect on the muscle.
"This is a more serious effect on the erectile function because the smooth muscle makes up 70 percent to 80 percent of the penis itself," Shamloul said.
LOS ANGELES-Almost fourteen years after the murder of Christopher Wallace, also known as the Notorious B.I.G. a prison informant is claiming that former LAPD officers, David Mack and Rafael Perez were involved in the murder along with Death Row Records. CBS 2 reports:
Eight years later in 2005, a civil trial brought by the Wallace family against the city of Los Angeles exposed evidence hidden by the LAPD that suggests two rogue police officers David Mack and Rafael Perez may have been involved in the murder of the rapper also known as Biggie Smalls.
According to a newly-revealed court record, Perezs cellmate told investigators Perez and Mack were involved in Death Row Records. Perez got involved in Death Row through Mack.
Perez was working security. Perez had a cell phone. Perez said he called over to Mack, David Mack on his cell phone. Perez told Mack that Biggie Smalls was in his truck. Perez never said that he set up Biggie Smalls but I have heard that hehad something to do with that murder, according to the inmate.
FLORIDA, USA Reggae star Buju Banton was found guilty on three charges by a 12-member panel of jurors a short while ago at the United States Sam M Gibbons Federal Court here in Tampa.
The artiste was found guilty of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute five or more kilogrammes of cocaine, of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking offence and using the wires to facilitate a drug-trafficking offence.
However he was found not guilty attempted possession with the intent to distribute cocaine.
The artiste hugged his lawyer David Markus when the verdict was read.
Many of the artiste's supporters left the courtroom crying. He has been detained and has had his bail revoked..
I have mixed emotions on this issue, on one hand Im pretty disappointed that all future Buju verses will be recorded over a prison phone, but at the same time if you live that kind of lifestyle you have to live with the consequences.
Either way, it sucks to be Buju right now.
It has been a rollercoaster couple of weeks for BB, he won the Grammy for Best Reggae Album for his new LP Before the Dawn last week.
Let us not reflect on Bujus current predicament though here he is in happier times.
Several members of the entertainment community are organising a protest that is intended to get news anchor Michael Sharpe removed from television, as they believe he has a vendetta against reggae and dancehall music.
Calls for Sharpe's removal via BlackBerry broadcast messages and social networking site, Twitter, are circulating since this week after a series of dances in Kingston experienced earlier-than-usual lock offs. Sharpe, along with his job in the media, is also a district constable in the police force and has been on several of these operations.
His visibility on these operations has led to the current backlash. One broadcast received by The STAR stated, "calling for the immediate removal of Michael Sharpe from being TVJ's news anchor man or else the music industry is going to boycott TVJ and Radio Jamaica. He needs to go fight crime and leave dancehall music alone."
Since this week, two events, Uptown Mondays and Mojito Mondays, were locked off in operations. Broadcast messages received yesterday reflected this and called for immediate action; "Venues that been pressured by Michael Sharpe ... the Building, Lime Light, Weddy Weddy, Uptown Mondays, Hennessy Fridayz and many more dancehall venues. We all need to protest in front of TVJ ... Sharpe must go."
Speaking with THE STAR, Q45, promoter of Hennessy Fridayz which is held on Burlington Avenue, was adamant that Michael Sharpe step down from his position on television.
"Right now, everybody in the music industry want Michael Sharpe out as a news anchor, cause he keeps going around and locking off reggae music. He's taking a personal vendetta against reggae music," he said.
"Who is Michael Sharpe to be doing this? He's acting like he's the superintendent of Half-Way Tree. He comes before the time is due and sits down and waits for the time to come and run in. He's enjoying locking off music," he told THE STAR.
no discretion
Q45 explained that he spoke to Sharpe last Friday when he came to lock off his Hennessey Fridayz 15 minutes before the scheduled lock-off time.
"Him don't even use his discretion and ask us to turn down the music or to give us an extra 30 minutes. Him just lock off everything. Why him don't look for the people who killed Copper Cat?" he questioned.
Weddy Weddy's promoter, Winston 'Weepow' Powell, said he doesn't believe Sharpe uses his discretion, and he believes some of the problems stem from the Noise Abatement Act, which says entertainment events should end at midnight on weekdays and 2 a.m. on weekends.
Weepow added that, despite having a club licence and staging the event once per week, his five-year-old event has been experiencing early lock offs. He said the licence allows him an extension to 4 a.m. and he has also been using smaller boxes to reduce the noise level.
The plight of the promoters and other members of the entertainment industry is fully understood by Minister of Culture Olivia 'Babsy' Grange. At the launch of Follow Di Arrow and Tessanne Chin's new album, she said there are plans to make amendments to the Noise Abatement Act. Changes to the act are also being pushed by the Constitution, Advocacy, Lobbying and Membership (C.A.L.M.) committee, which falls under the JaRIA (Jamaica Reggae Industry Association). The group has started a petition to get the act amended.
When contacted yesterday, Sharpe declined to give a comment concerning the calls for his removal from television. He requested that THE STAR contact Karl Angell, director of communication for the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
When contact was made with Senior Superintendent Derrick Knight, head of St Andrew Central, the division in which Sharpe operates, he said that he is not aware of any specific operation aimed at locking down events in the Corporate Area.
He said, however, that the police have been more vigilant due to an increase in the reports of stabbing and shooting incidents in the area, "with every approval we enforce the law, 12 midnight during weekdays and 2 a.m., on weekends. As it pertains to Michael Sharpe, he is a part of a team and he has supervisors. He doesn't work by himself."
In terms of Television Jamaica, managing director of the RJR Communications Group, Gary Allen, told THE STAR that he had heard some of the comments and received text messages and emails about threats of the station's boycott and planned protest. He said he had the replied to the messages, but had not received any responses.
He declined to comment on whether or not the planned activities will affect the station, but maintained that the matter is one for the police and he does not think it is an issue that TVJ or RJR is involved in.
TORONTO (AP) The Canadian military says it has taken the final steps to officially dismiss from the forces former Col. Russell Williams, who was convicted of murder and sexual assault.
The Department of National Defense said Friday that Williams's two medals and an official document confirming his appointment were retrieved from his family, completing the process of cashiering him out the military.
Williams was sentenced last month to life in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of first-degree murder, two sexual assaults and 82 counts of breaking-and-entering, during which he stole undergarments from women and young girls. His sentence carries no possibility of parole for 25 years.
Williams was a rising star in the military before he was charged earlier last year.
Convicted murderer and rapist Russell Williams was profiled on NBC's Dateline in a two-hour episode aired Friday, February 18, 2011 at 9 p.m. Co-host Keith Morrison examines the life of the former colonel and commander of Canadian Forces Base Trenton. NBC says the special includes interviews with family, friends, neighbours, and a former Canadian Forces commanding officer, who says forgiving Williams would be difficult to ever do. He was always someone I could go to talk to about any situation, I am going to miss that. I am going to miss him.
In October 2010 the Canadian military commander plead guilty to raping and murdering two women, a disturbing case that has gripped the country.
Staring at the floor, Col. Russell Williams also plead guilty today to assaulting and raping two other women and to more than 80 home burglaries and stealing female underwear, lingerie and shoes, some of which he hid in the home he shared with his wife.
He commanded Canada's most famous Air Force base until he was charged earlier this year and relieved of duty. The 47-year-old officer received an automatic sentence of life imprisonment, with a possibility for parole after 25 years.
It took more than 30 minutes for a clerk to read all of the charges against Williams, who silently bowed his head in a packed courtroom in Belleville, Ontario, The Globe and Mail reported.
The shocking case has damaged military morale and fueled speculation that Williams could be a serial killer.
The elite pilot with a distinguished military career had flown Canadian politicians and Britain's Queen Elizabeth II across the country and overseas.
After being arrested in February, the 23-year veteran ultimately admitted to raping and strangling to death Jessica Lloyd, 27, and Cpl. Marie-France Comeau, 38. He also told investigators details from 82 break-ins across surrounding residential areas.
Comeau, a military flight attendant who had flown with Williams, was murdered Nov. 25, 2009. Lloyd, a 27-year-old Ontario bus company worker, disappeared Jan. 28, 2010 and was found weeks later after Williams led police to where he'd dumped her body near a rural road, the Toronto Sun Reported.
Prosecutors showed photographs Williams had taken of himself after breaking into homes, including images of the commander wearing women's lingerie and, in one case, of him lying on a 12-year-old girl's bed, using her underwear to masturbate.
He kept a log of his break-ins and stored "trophies" from the two murders in the basement ceiling of his Ottawa home, the Sun reported.
When Carlon Chambers yearned for a plate of the national dish, ackee and saltfish - yesterday, he went in search of the fruit. But what he encountered would almost have him falling out of the ackee tree.
The 33-year-old Allman Town, Kingston resident found an ackee with 12 seeds.
"It frighten mi wen mi first see it, it creep me out bad but mi realise seh a God works," said Chambers. "I did tink it was a bunch a dem, a wen mi tek it up mi realise seh something neva normal bout it, you nuh really hear bout dem ting here inna town, a mostly country."
Weighing a little over half a pound the fruit appears like a small pumpkin on the outside but when the underside is revealed it resembles a fat caterpillar, the seeds and edible sections look like the soft undersides of the insect.
amazed
The fruit has also attracted attention from his neighbours and children. "Everybody crowd round it, dem amazed," he said. Though he said he will not be eating it, Chambers is confident that it is fit for consumption.
When asked why he thought the fruit was still fit for eating, since the average ackee pod only contained 2-4 seeds, Chambers answered smartly. "Since ackee a poison off people you haffi be aware, me just love how it open up by itself, me see it inna di tree open."
The fruit must only be consumed after the pod opens naturally and the poison hypoglcin is released. Chambers has dubbed it the '12 head' ackee.
Twins apologise to fans for delay
Says it will be worth the wait
After promising their fans a January release for 'Stir It Up Vol 9', Twin of Twins will have to wait a little longer as the product is being reviewed by their lawyer.
Speaking with THE STAR recently, Patrick Gaynor said the release of the CD has been delayed because it is being reviewed by their lawyer, who is checking if there are any breaches of the law.
"We've been having some issues because we haffi run each volume through wi lawyer. So is the review process really a hold it up. Wi haffi know how fi conduct wi self. Unfortunately, this is taking a bit more time, mi nuh know if it extra controversial or what. We apologise to the fans for taking so long, but we guarantee that it's worth the wait," he said.
people's ignorance
In November, Gaynor said the CD would have been released in January. He also noted that, based on people's ignorance towards their material, they were considering making volume nine their last.
Meanwhile, their lawyer, Christopher Townsend, says checks are being made to see if there are any instances of defamation of character on the CD.
"They have a way of stepping on people's corn, and they asked me to do a review. I have reviewed it and it has now gone for second opinion," Townsend told THE STAR.
However, he was tight-lipped about whether or not there were any breaches of the Defamation Act on the CD. Instead, he lauded the twins' work.
better compositions
"There are some things on it that I find quite funny that other people might not. I think this is perhaps one of their better compositions," Townsend said, noting that the duo usually does good work.
Although the review has not been completed, Gaynor said the CD should be released in March at a launch party. He said the public will be informed of its release by various means.
As for what listeners should expect, he said he will leave that to their own interpretation when they hear the new material.
"We leave things to people's opinion. We won't be arrogant, but we can guarantee seh it's going to be Twin of Twins to the fullest," Gaynor said.
However, he was very reluctant to disclose any issue that was tackled on Stir It Up Vol.9.
"We talk a thing inna di media and everybody try first you wid it. So, some things we choose not to divulge," Gaynor told THE STAR.
On a more personal note, he said he is planning to have a memorial for his deceased son, Zion, in April. In December, he faced disappointment when he was denied a permit for the event in Manchester.
The administrators of Presidents College have suspended two Fifth Form students following the circulation of a video of them having sex in the schools Home Economics Department.
The shocking video was brought to the administrators of the school by fellow students who managed to obtain it clandestinely by downloading it from the laptop of the male student involved.
Kaieteur News understands that the video was circulated to several students of the school and even to residents of the village of Golden Grove on the East Coast of Demerara, where Guyanas only live-in secondary institution is located.
According to sources in the school, from all appearances the female involved in the episode had given consent for the video to be made.
This newspaper managed to see some footage of the five-minute video in which the parties are observed engaging in oral and penetrative sex. It also has a production name, (Nicky) does the dirtiest thing.
The students involved, one of whom hails from Berbice and the other from Tuschen, West Coast Demerara, were suspended for one week.
A Ministry of Education official confirmed that the matter was being dealt with, but stated that more drastic action was not contemplated because of the upcoming CSEC examinations which will be written in a few months time.
But the move is not going down well with other students and staff who are of the view that the video has scandalized the high profile boarding secondary institution.
These students should not be allowed to be in the dormsand what about the teacher responsible for the area that this act took place? These children had the keys to the department, a source at the school told this newspaper.
According to the source, this is not the first time that students of the school have been caught having sex with each other on the premises. On one occasion, a female student left the school for good after she was scolded for engaging in the act in one of the dorms.
Sex in schools is reportedly becoming a major headache for education officials across the country.
Then there is the fact that it not only involves students, but teachers as well.
A few weeks ago, a teacher was charged after he allegedly recorded himself having sex with one of his female students.
WHAT a finish, what an unbelievable finish.
From one-down Arsenal stunned Barca with two goals in the last 12 minutes through Robin van Persie and sub Andrey Arshavin to take the roof off the Emirates.
It gave the other team from north London something to shout about after Spurs' heroics in the San Siro the previous evening when they beat AC Milan.
It would not have sat well with Gunners fans if the ****erels had finished the week doing all the crowing.
Maybe Arsene Wenger is right in his claim that this is a new Arsenal - growing in stature, more mature, mentally stronger.
Over the last few seasons boss Wenger has talked up his players only for them to let him down when it matters in the run-in for the big trophies.
This comeback could be the big turning point. Now they have to believe they have what it takes to finish the job in this Champions League last-16 clash.
The second leg will not be easy against World Player of the Year Lionel Messi and his pals.
The Gunners were shot full of holes in last year's quarter-final, losing 6-3 on aggregate, but they will have taken enormous confidence from this performance.
And in Jack Wilshere they have a teenage midfield star who will not be the least bit intimidated going into the lion's den.
England boss Fabio Capello said he wanted to see how Wilshere, 19, would cope against the formidable duo of Xavi and Andres Iniesta.
He got his answer. Wilshere was immense and gives Arsenal an extra dimension, combining midfield bite and craft.
He has so much more to offer than the defensive role which Capello has earmarked for him.
Cesc Fabregas, the skipper courted for so long by Barca, was superb in the centre too and he will relish the trip to Catalonia which was denied him last season because he broke his leg.
Throw in the pace of Theo Walcott and the artistry of Samir Nasri and Barca have good reason to be afraid
Make no mistake, Arsenal really do have a chance of knocking out the team Wenger describes as "the best in the world".
This was a cracking game in which both sides played their full part.
There were times Arsenal just could not get the ball as Barca knocked it around for fun in the tightest of spaces.
But, when the home side broke, they did so incisively and you always fancied they could score.
Fabregas began with a majestic chipped ball through to Van Persie which the Dutchman caught firmly with his left foot but Victor Valdes saved at his near post.
However, on 15 minutes, Barca looked certain to go one up when David Villa slotted Messi through the middle and we awaited the inevitable.
Messi delayed his shot, waiting for Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny to go to ground then clipped it past him and, to mass astonishment, the ball bounced the wrong side of the post.
After Eric Abidal had got his head to Walcott's cross to prevent Van Persie nodding in, Barca did take the lead on 26 minutes.
Messi worked his magic, threading the ball through to Villa and the £35million man coolly tucked his shot into the corner.
Within a minute Pedro Rodriguez was prevented from doubling the lead by the excellent Szczesny and the signs were ominous. Arsenal should have drawn level when Wilshere laid it on a plate for Van Persie only for the striker to slice horribly off target.
The anguish on Wenger's face said it all.
Barca started playing triangles and Messi eventually headed in after Szczesny saved from Villa, but he was given offside when he looked onside. Relief round the Emirates.
Arsenal were not playing badly - Barca were just better.
But Wilshere was probing forward, always looking for that killer pass or trying to make room for himself.
He played a one-two just after half-time and took the return but shot straight at the keeper. Nasri, Arsenal's player of the season, started getting into the game a bit more after the break.
While the Frenchman was giving Barca something to worry about down the left, Walcott was still posing a threat on the opposite flank.
Gerard Pique was rattled and his foul on Fabregas earned a yellow card, putting him out of the second leg.
Messi then squandered a great chance to make it two when he was free on the left and shot into the side-netting.
He paid for that as Van Persie equalised on 78 minutes. Gael Clichy ran a ball down the channel and from the tightest of angles Van Persie crashed a left-foot shot between Valdes and his near post.
Shocking goalkeeping if you are a Barca fan - brilliant finishing if you are an Arsenal supporter.
It got even better five minutes later, when Fabregas fed Nasri.
The Frenchman hared down the right flank, then checked back before finding sub Arshavin 15 yards out.
Wenger had gambled by sending on the Russian for the more defensive Alex Song on 68 minutes.
There have been many times this season when an out-of-sorts Arshavin has squandered such chances, most notably at Leeds in the FA Cup when he sent his shot flying out of the ground.
But this time, Arshavin was composure itself as he struck his shot firm and low beyond Valdes and in to the right-hand side of the goal.
Advantage Arsenal. Can they do it? Yes they can.

Art is manifested in many forms and is so subjective and relative that who is to say which subjects are more artistic than others?
Certainly creativity and innovation are the children of artistic development, and as such this BMW made completely of bricks as it rests by the road in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province qualifies.
The creation of sculptor, Dai Geng, the car took more than a year of cementing hundreds of bricks blocks together to make.
The artist then carved the bricks into a model of a sporty BMW Z4, which can exceed speeds of 150mph. He is asking £80,000 (more than $US 129,000) for the vehicle in which everything except for the windows is made from brick. This includes even the door hinges that function just like metal ones.
"Only the windows are not made of bricks. Everything else including the tires, the steering wheel, the exhaust pipe and trimmings are made of brick," said Dai proudly.
The brick car was completed about three years ago and is 5 meters long (46 feet), 2.15 meters wide (almost 7 feet), 1.6 meters high (more than 5 feet) and weighs 6.5 tons. Since 2007, the car has been on display in several areas in China.
The artist is hopeful that some wealthy Chinese businessman will buy the car even though it doesn't run and costs more than a real BMW. He hopes it will serve as a most unusual (not to mention very expensive) garden ornament for someone who has a secret money tree growing in his backyard.
Jody-Anne Maxwell
The ex-boyfriend of former Spelling Bee champion, Jody-Anne Maxwell, appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday accused of assaulting her.
Adrian Marshall, a 28-year-old musician from Graham Heights, St Andrew, is accused of choking and biting Maxwell on the grounds of the Matilda's Corner Police Station. He was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.
At the request of Maxwell, who is now an attorney-at-law, Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey made a no order in the case, as Maxwell and Marshall had settled the matter at the Dispute Resolution Foundation.
damages
As a result, the court heard that Marshall had agreed to pay the complainant $23,100 for special damages and $250,000 for general damages for defamation of character, pain and suffering emotional distress. He also apologised to Maxwell in court.
Allegations are that on January 4, Marshall trailed Maxwell as she went to see her boyfriend. Upon leaving where her boyfriend was and driving on to Half-Way Tree Road, she noticed Marshall was following her and she drove to the Matilda's Corner Police Station.
The court heard that she exited the vehicle to enter into the station's guardroom when she was attacked, punched her in the face, choked and bitten on the left side of her neck.
It was further heard that the police came out the station and restrained Marshall before sending Maxwell to seek medical attention. He was later arrested and charged.
Two TSA officers were busted Wednesday for stealing $40,000 from a bag at Kennedy Airport they thought belonged to a drug dealer, a law enforcement source said.
Under questioning, the pair also admitted swiping up to $160,000 from other unsuspecting passengers.
Rogue agents Davon Webb, 30, and Persad Coumar, 36, were busted after a sharp-eyed colleague blew the whistle.
They were charged with grand larceny, possession of stolen property, conspiracy and official misconduct. Each was held in lieu of $15,000 bail after their arraignment Wednesday night.
"TSA has a zero tolerance policy for theft in the workplace," the Transportation Security Administration said.
"The disgraceful actions of a few should not reflect negatively on the ... 50,000 TSA officers across the country who work each day to keep the traveling public safe."
Coumar X-rayed luggage destined for an American Airlines flight to Argentina on Jan. 30. Then he phoned Webb, who was assigned to the baggage belt area. Webb confirmed there was cash inside, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.
Brown said Coumar found $170,000 wrapped in tape. He took $40,000 and met Webb in a bathroom, where the employees hid the loot in their clothing, Brown said.
A TSA agent tipped off a supervisor, triggering an investigation by Port Authority cops.
Cops found $16,000 at Webb's Bronx home.
They also found $23,980 at Coumar's Jackson Heights home. He had spent $20 on food, authorities said.
A law enforcement source said the details of the investigation will be forwarded to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
The passenger who checked the bag arrived safely in Argentina and never told authorities he was missing any cash.
One source said most of the bags - aside from the $40,000 theft - were chosen randomly.
Another source said the duo targeted drug dealers because they didn't think criminals would report the thefts.
Webb, who joined the TSA in 2004, and Coumar, who started in 2002, are expected to be fired, officials said.
It was a "Match" made in hell.
A man was so angry at the woman he'd met on an online dating service for breaking up with him, he brutally stabbed and beat her outside her Las Vegas home, police said.
Wade Mitchell Ridley was charged Tuesday after allegedly confessing to trying to kill Mary Kay Beckman last month.
The 53-year-old told police he "wanted to kill her," according to a police report obtained by ABC 13 Action News in Las Vegas. "He wanted her to pay for how she mistreated him."
The 49-year-old woman's daughter told police her mother and Ridley had only been together for only a short time before she ended the "patchy" relationship. The two met via Match.com, an online dating service.
"He was not happy with the break up," she told police, the report states.
The night of the attack, Ridley told authorities he "broke into the garage with a knife and waited for her to return home" on the night of Jan. 21.
Beckman arrived and was on the phone when Ridley allegedly assaulted her.
He told police he "knocked her to the ground, and began stabbing her repeatedly until he recognized that the knife broke," the report states. "Then he continued by stomping her head and neck, until she [stopped] making the gurgling noise."
Beckman survived the horrific assault and is in critical condition, but another of
Ridley's ex-girlfriends was not so lucky.
Anne Simenson, 62, was murdered in her Phoenix home earlier this month. She was viciously stabbed with a machete and a butcher knife, Fox 10 News in Phoenix reported. Jewelry and electronics were also stolen from her home, as well as her car.
"This is something where he was going back, apparently was going back to people he felt he was wronged by and thought he needed to take out some retribution on these people," Phoenix Police Sgt. Steve Martos told ABC 13
Action News.
Ridley faces several charges in Nevada, including attempted murder and robbery. He has not been charged in the Arizona killing, a case which is still under investigation, but is considered a suspect.
News Out of Israel is that Herzeliya-based startup, BioExplorers now offers mice that may be better than dogs or machines at detecting explosives and other contraband. According to Bio Explorers's Web Site, its brand of mouse combines "the hyper-sensitive olfactory capability of rodents with the care-free reliability of a hi-tech machine system."
Created by Special Forces veterans and biology-based threat detection experts, the company takes the genetic picks of each litter and optimizes them in a ten-day program, resulting in tiny, trained explosives and narcotics detectors with greater reliability than mechanical sensors.
While canines may still best rodents one-on-one, "multiple sensors"--i.e., a team of mice--can yield superior overall results in one-tenth the time, at far lower cost, according to BioExplorers. And mice can be deployed in situations impractical for dogs, like crowded mass transportation systems or sports arenas.
BioExplorers representatives take great pains to combat the so-called Eek A Mouse! Factor stemming from public concern that rodents are disease vectors. According to the company, stringent hygiene commences from the birth of its mice, in a clean laboratory, followed by routine veterinary supervision. Also the detection work itself requires no physical contact between sensors and subjects. Moreover, teams of four to eight mice do their jobs unseen, from within specialized containment devices (see video below). A report of their olfactory analysis is generated electronically using a proprietary algorithmic-based system.
As related on the Israeli news site Arutz Sheva, the mice were put to the test during a December 2009 controlled experiment in which explosive charges were planted on twenty-two people scattered throughout a Tel Aviv mall. According to BioExplorers, the mice went 22 for 22.
SALT LAKE CITY The patriarch of a prominent family musical group has been charged with sexually abusing his three daughters in a stunning revelation that was followed four days later by the father careening his Porsche off a 300-foot enbankment into an icy stream.
Keith Brown, whose daughters are part of The 5 Browns, survived the crash and faces one first-degree felony count of sodomy on a child and two second-degree felony counts of sexual abuse of a child, according to Fourth District Court records obtained Wednesday.
The 5 Browns are a classical piano group from Utah that features the three sisters and their two brothers. The Juilliard-trained siblings have achieved critical and popular acclaim while appearing on "Oprah," "The View" and other shows, and being profiled by "60 Minutes."
Their CDs have topped the Billboard classical music charts and their concerts often sellout in all 50 states and in Japan, Germany, France, Korea, Mexico and England.
The records filed Feb. 10 in the abuse case don't identify any victim by name or indicate the relationship between Keith Brown and the alleged victims.
However, Kimball Thomson, a spokesman for The 5 Browns, said the charges involve Brown's daughters and group members Desirae, 32, Deondra, 30, and Melody, 26. He declined to release further information on the women.
"We can confirm that Keith Brown has been charged with sexual abuse involving his daughters," Thomson said in an e-mail to The Associated Press.
The AP does not generally identify people who say they were sexually assaulted, but the Brown women have chosen to be identified and are cooperating with police, Thomson said.
Attorney Steven Shapiro, who represents 55-year-old Keith Brown, said he would not comment on the charges until Brown makes an initial court appearance set for Thursday in Provo.
Court documents state the allegations stem from separate occasions between November 1990 and October 1992, November 1990 and November 1992 and March 1997 and March 1998 in Utah County.
There are no statutes of limitation in Utah that prevent prosecutors from filing such sex crime charges.
Thomson said the Brown children severed their professional relationship with Keith Brown in October of 2008. He was once the manager of The 5 Browns but now has no connection, Thomson said.
A near-death experience. This is how 20-year-old Melissa Nelson from Greater Portmore, St. Catherine described the incident where she was brutally hit in her face by an unknown assailant about two weeks ago.
According to Nelson, on the evening of February 4, about 8 p.m., she was walking through a dark alley on her way home from work when she was hit in the face with what she has described as "a heavy piece of board."
"I know I did pass someone in the dark but I didn't see his face, but all I can remember is that by the time I turned around to look what was happening behind me I felt something hit me in my face twice," Nelson said.
THE STAR understands that Nelson's teeth were shattered, her forehead burst and her nose was broken, as a result of the incident.
"My nose bled for three days and since the incident I have been having terrible headaches. It's now two weeks since the incident and I have four stitches for the cut on my forehead but I will have to do a scan on my head. Normally I am a chicken person and now I cannot eat food, I only can eat like cheese, irish and drink fluids."
counselling
She further reasoned, "the doctor advised me to get counselling because I cannot sleep or stay in the dark. I am still nervous when it touch like 8 o'clock in the night because I am still afraid of the dark."
When THE STAR spoke with Nelson's mother, Lorraine Nelson, she told us "It was a terrible act, they could have killed her, if it was her bag they wanted why dem just didn't take her bag, dem never had to mash her up. Right now she is traumatised because she can't sleep in the dark and she is going to need some counselling."
When asked if she had any argument with anyone before the incident, or if she has any idea as to who could have done this to her, Nelson's response was "No, I didnt have anything with anyone, my bag was stolen with about $3000 cash, my phone, MP4 player, digital camera, among other valuables."
The incident, which caught the radio station, Kool 97 FM's attention has evoked some amount of attention to the matter as their listeners have been asked to make their kind donations to an account that was set up for Nelson to help with her medical expenses.
Michael Barnett, show presenter from the radio station said, "It could be anyone of us daughter. it's just a tragic incident and we should help out this sister, and I want the police to catch whoever did this because he needs to learn that he can't be going around beating up women."
Efforts by THE STAR yesterday to contact the Bridgeport police, where Nelson reported the incident, proved futile.
Anyone who wishes to assist Melissa Nelson may make their donations to RBTT account #441-03-172-005-604-06.

THREE MEMBERS of the music fraternity yesterday took the stand to give character evidence for embattled entertainer Buju Banton.
Gramps Morgan of Morgan Heritage fame, Stephen Marley and independent film-maker Stephanie Black all said Buju is a man of great character, but admitted he is a big talker.
Black, who produced the electronic press kit for Buju's 1995 hit album Til Shiloh, said in the 16 years she has known him, she has found him to be a selfless person.
"He is a little Santa Claus," she said.
For his part, Gramps, who co-produced one of Buju's songs on the Grammy award-winning Before the Dawn, said the Gargamel is a law-abiding citizen.
"He is known as the voice of Jamaica," Gramps said.
voice and music
He added: "Jamaica is a third-world country and his voice and music is the voice of the people."
He also said that he does not know Buju to be a drug dealer and that "it is against our faith (Rastafarian)" to be involved with cocaine.
He told the jury, in response to a question from Jim Preston, the prosecutor, that the charges brought against Buju serves to "diminish his credibility and his music".
Marley, who used his home to post bond for Buju, said he would not have done so had he not trusted Buju and treasured his friendship.
"Buju is one of few artistes who uplift the people. He is a very spiritual person and he is a living example to a lot of youth," Marley said.
Meanwhile, when Preston asked Marley if he believed Buju would lie to him or hide things from him, the singer said "no". When asked, he also said that Buju wasn't someone who talked about drugs. Preston also asked Marley if he knows the price for kilos of cocaine and where to get it and the singer also replied in the negative.
"In reggae, we don't talk about drugs. Music and cocaine don't mix," Marley said.
Preston would later remind the jury that Buju was au fait with the prices for kilos of cocaine as he was captured on tape having these discussions with Alexander Johnson, the United States confidential informant.

Deejay Lady Saw wants to be removed from the Deejay of the Year (female) category at the upcoming EME Awards. According to Saw she doesn't believe her recent music has been played enough to warrant her deserving to be in the category.
The Queen of the Dancehall surprised persons yesterday on social networking site Twitter.com, when she expressed that she wanted to be removed as a nominee for Deejay of the Year. Saw is nominated in the category with contenders such as Tifa, Stacious, Ce'Cile, D'Angel, Timberlee and Spice.
The EME (Excellence in Music) Awards is scheduled to take place on March 12 at Devon House, St Andrew.
Speaking with THE STAR yesterday, the deejay explained that she has nothing against the awards and will in fact be performing alongside rapper Eve for their song He Is At My House, but still doesn't want to be nominated in that category.
She said, "I just don't think I deserve to be nominated. I have an album out and I can count the amount of times I've heard the songs played. It just wouldn't be fair to nominate me just cause I'm a deejay, I wouldn't feel that I won."
Lady Saw released her album My Way with a video for the first single Party Till December last September. According to the deejay, she is not into award shows and would rather they take her off this year. "Nominate me for summen else, nominate me for the work I've done over the years or summen. Which song I have playing that people know?" she said.
She added, "The main issue is I have an album of 15 tracks, and I only hear Party Till December play one or two times, is like I don't have an album out. If they play me on radio is the old songs like I don't have new songs. Don't know if they're trying to say I'm old school ... I'm not one to complain but it's obvious to me I'm not getting enough airplay. I don't know if I have to be young again or buy some spots, I believe real talent don't have to buy spots."
For Lady Saw she says she would rather be out on the road performing at shows, or in the studio working on a number of new tracks.
All Wilson Phillips* wanted to be was a good citizen. So in 2008 when he witnessed three men killing a man in his community in St Catherine, he did the right thing - reported it to the police.
Doing the right thing, however, apparently turned out to be the wrong thing for Phillips because he claimed that two days after making the report the same men turned up at his house searching for him because they heard he informed on them.
"I had to consult with my pastor for counselling. Everything was happening so fast, never in my life I had to be looking over my shoulders because it was after I had reported the matter to the police that the thugs came back looking for me to kill me, saying that I am an informer," Phillips said.
The 35-year-old Phillips who is overseas, is still living in fear and is now seeking asylum.
foreign country
One of his close relatives told THE STAR. "(He) ... is a decent law abiding citizen. He loves his country and he had to abandon his job to be living in a foreign country, all because he was being a law abiding citizen. Sometimes him can't eat and sleep because he is concerned about his family."
In relating the horror he went through when he witnessed the crime, Phillips said that on the night of the incident he was warned by the thugs to keep his mouth shut. "I remember the gunmen saying that I must not tell the police anything because they would kill me or tek off mi head as how them put it, and that they would come back to kill my family if I go to the police," he recalled.
He said, however, that he felt duty-bound to report the crime. So, because he was concerned about his safety and wanted his information to be kept confidential, he decided to report the matter to a police station that wasn't close to his community.
A few days after the incident, he said that he reported the matter to the Central Village Police Station.
But that, he said, was when things took a turn for the worse. Two days after; "... di thugs came to my house to kill me. I had to hide myself in the outside toilet and my sister told me that they were inside the house threatening my family asking dem 'weh mi deh?'. They ended up robbing my family of cash amongst other valuables."
Phillips was left with no choice but to flee the country a few weeks later.
When asked why he did not report the matter to the Anti-Corruption Branch or to see if he could be placed in a witness protection programme, Phillips said that he lost all confidence in the security forces and that he felt his family's lives would be more at risk.
Yesterday, efforts by THE STAR to speak to a senior police officer from the St Catherine North Division proved futile.
However, Assistant Commissioner Justin Felice of the Anti-Corruption Branch said that while he is unaware of the specifics of Phillips' case, his advice would be for him to report it to the Anti-Corruption Branch.

The National Enquirer reported on Tuesday that O.J. Simpson was attacked in the Nevada prison and beaten unconscious. He spent three weeks in the infirmary.
According to the report, prison authorities have "done their best" to keep the beating a secret and Simpson is now afraid to leave his cell.
The 63-year-old has reportedly been a "marked man" in prison "ever since white supremacists overheard him brag about his sexual conquests of beautiful white women."
"Inmates cheered as a muscular young skinhead knocked him to the ground, punching and kicking him to a *la*hdy pulp and inflicting injuries so severe he secretly spent nearly three weeks in the infirmary before he recovered."
Simpson's former business partner, Bruce Fromong, said: "Unfortunately for O.J., a group of young skinhead punks were within earshot - and they were enraged."
