NEW YORK - A European Vogue cover model fell to her death from her Manhattan apartment building Saturday in an apparent suicide, published reports said.
Ruslana Korshunova, 20, died around 2:30 p.m. in a fall from a building on Water Street, in Manhattan's Financial District, The New York Post, the Daily News and Newsday reported. The newspapers cited unnamed officials and police.
Police said the fall was under investigation. Korushnova's New York agency and a spokeswoman for medical examiners did not immediately return telephone messages.
Originally from the former Soviet republic of Kazakhstan, the almond-eyed, flowing-haired Korshunova appeared in advertisements and on runways for such designers as Marc Jacobs, Nina Ricci and DKNY. British Vogue hailed her as "a face to be excited about" in 2005.
Her break came when modeling booker Debbie Jones noticed her while perusing an in-flight magazine article about Korushnova's hometown of Almaty, according to the Vogue report.
"She looked like something out of a fairytale!" Jones told the magazine. "We had to find her and we searched high and low until we did!"
Some customers of the Cable and Wireless prepaid Homefone service are upset by the new terms of service, which takes effect today.
Several customers are complaining that the company is forcing new standards on them and that they had no opportunity to agree to these conditions before they signed up for the service. "I have a problem with all of that (new terms of prepaid service) because its like they are forcing something down my throat. I never got a chance to agree or disagree with the terms," one customer told THE STAR.
Another customer said, while she was informed about the changes, she too did not feel she had a chance to agree.
FeeEffective today, under the new terms of service, which were advertised in the press for the past few days, prepaid customers must pay a monthly subscription fee of at least $600 by the 27th of each month. Customers who fail to meet this deadline will be given 10 days to do so, after which they will not be able to make or receive calls.
Following this, if the account is inactive for 15 days, customers will have the option of paying $1500 to reactivate the service. But, if that fee is not paid within the 15-day period, the service will be disconnected and the customer will have to apply for post-paid service if they want to keep using the fixed line service.
Losing moneyErrol K. Miller, vice-president Corporate Communications & Corporate Affairs Cable & Wireless Jamaica, said the company has a right to change its terms and had to do so because it was losing money. "The simple truth, as we have said several times, is that the company is losing money on the prepaid Homefone product. While we do not disclose precise figures in this extremely competitive market, the reason it is happening can be disclosed. This is simply because thousands of our prepaid Homefone customers hardly ever top up their accounts," he said.
In addition, he said that some customers have not topped up their accounts for six months or almost a year. "What that means is that the company gets no revenue from these lines but still has to maintain them to ensure they are in working order - including dispatching trucks and technicians to repair lines which may develop faults from time to time," he said
Miller said no customer was being forced to switch their service to post-paid, however persons ought to ensure that they top up their accounts in line with the new terms and conditions or they risk losing the service. He said no new clients will be accepted for the prepaid service and once totally disconnected, prepaid customers may reapply and receive the post-paid service.
A prototype USB drive using bug protein to store data in the neighborhood of around 50 terabytes worth of data could be here in less then 18 months.
This idea first started out by coating DVDs with a layer of protein so that one day solid state memory could hold so much information that storing data on your computer hard drive will be obsolete, says Professor V Renugopalakrishnan of the Harvard Medical School in Boston while reporting on his findings at the International Conference on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology in Brisbane this week.
What this will do eventually is eliminate the need for hard drive memory completely, he says. Renugopalakrishnan says high-capacity storage devices like the new protein-based DVDs will be essential to the defense, medical and entertainment industries. These trade in terabytes of information with the transfer of information such as satellite images, imaging scans and movies. You have a compelling need that is not going to be met with the existing magnetic storage technology, he says.

Members of the Caribbean-American community are lobbying for their own category in the U.S. census, saying it's the only way to get an accurate count of the population.
Caribbean groups across the nation want either Caribbean-American or West Indian added as a separate racial or ethnic category for non-Hispanics who were born in the region or are descendants of people who were. While the change likely would not take place in time for the 2010 census, organizers say they want to build momentum for future census questionnaires.
"We don't want to be invisible anymore," said Felicia Persaud, CEO of Hardbeat Communications in New York and a spokeswoman for the campaign. "It's impacting everything from economics to social and political issues."
Persaud said the community is missing out on federal funding that could help businesses and social programs because the number of West Indians in the United States is underestimated.
Census data are used to determine how $300 billion in federal money is spent on such things as schools and roads. Demographic data are also considered when redrawing political districts in the states.
About 300,000 West Indians live in Broward and Palm Beach counties, according to estimates based on ancestry data collected on American Community Surveys. Such figures are calculated annually.
The West Indian community is one of the fastest-growing groups in South Florida.
"The Caribbean community is maturing and trying to manifest itself in being a part of the social fabric of America," said Marlon Hill, regional chairman of the Jamaican Diaspora Advisory Board. The community wants "to be recognized in a manner that gives true credence to our growing number."
Various ethnicities have lobbied for their own category on the census. Arab-Americans lobbied for their own racial category in the 1990s, but it was never adopted.
Horn called 911 and told the dispatcher he had a shotgun and was going to kill the intruders. The dispatcher pleaded with him not to go outside, but a defiant Horn confronted the men with a 12-gauge shotgun and shot both in the back.
Some community activists wanted Horn to face charges for the deaths. Supporters of the retired grandfather said what he did was justified under the law.
After listening to evidence in the case, including testimony from Horn himself, a grand jury on Monday cleared him of the shootings.
"He wasn't acting like a vigilante. He didn't want to do it," said Tom Lambright, Horn's attorney.
Lambright said Horn was not a "wild cowboy" who took the law into his own hands after he saw the two suspected burglars, with bags in hand, crawling out of windows from his neighbor's home on Nov. 14 in the Houston suburb of Pasadena. The neighbor was out of town at the time.
Instead, Horn was a frightened retiree who tried to defend his neighbor's property and when the two men came onto his yard and threatened him, Horn defended himself, Lambright said.
"He was scared. He was in fear of his life," he said.
Grand jurors had to consider two issues in the case: the intentional killing of another person and whether the killing was justified either by self-defense or the defense of property, Harris County District Attorney Kenneth Magidson told reporters.
"I understand the concerns of some in the community regarding Mr. Horn's conduct," Magidson said. "The grand jury concluded that Mr. Horn's use of deadly force did not rise to a criminal offense."
Texas law allows people to use deadly force to protect themselves if it is reasonable to believe they are in mortal danger. In limited circumstances, people also can use deadly force to protect their neighbor's property; for example, if a homeowner asks a neighbor to watch over his property while he's out of town. It's not clear whether the neighbor whose home was burglarized asked Horn to watch over his house.
Frank Ortiz, a member of the local League of United Latin American Citizens chapter, said he hopes federal authorities investigate the case further.
"That's amazing that they would no-bill him with so much evidence against him," Ortiz told the Houston Chronicle in Monday's online edition. "This was no more than a vigilante."
Horn did not speak with reporters on Monday.
A large red sign with the words "No Trespass" on it blocked the path to his front door and a handwritten sign on the door said "Please no media," "No Trespassing" and "Do not knock or ring bell." A couple of neighbors also had signs on their doors asking media to leave them alone.
A few police cars patrolled the area near Horn's home.
The two suspected burglars, Hernando Riascos Torres, 38, and Diego Ortiz, 30, were unemployed illegal immigrants from Col****ia. Torres was deported to Col****ia in 1999 after a 1994 cocaine-related conviction.
The city of Pasadena, where protesters and defenders of Horn engaged in counter-demonstrations, pledged to keep its police force staffed enough to protect its citizens.
Keith Hampton, a Houston attorney not connected with the case, said he didn't expect Horn to be indicted. "This is a real conservative county," he said. "A lot of folks in Houston and Harris County are saying this man was doing a good thing."
In the 911 call, a dispatcher urges Horn to stay inside his house and not risk lives.
"Don't go outside the house," the 911 operator pleaded. "You're going to get yourself shot if you go outside that house with a gun. I don't care what you think."
"You want to make a bet?" Horn answered. "I'm going to kill them."
After the shooting, he redialed 911.
"I had no choice," he said, his voice shaking. "They came in the front yard with me, man. I had no choice. Get somebody over here quick."
In 1997, 18 year old, New Orleans native, Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. known as Lil Wayne was the youngest member of the Cash Money Records group Hot Boys. He soon surmounted the groups expectations.

He was voted the "Hottest MC in the Game" as well as one of the "Men of the Year" in GQ Magazine. Blender Magazine also gave him the distinction of being the "Best Rock Star Alive".
He is a definite 'must see' at this years Reggae Sumfest festival as this one will surmount all others.
MONTEGO BAY, St James - Jamaica will this week begin the cultivation of 12 varieties of rice on 20 acres of lands in St Catherine and St Elizabeth on an experimental basis, in a bid to ascertain the variety best suited to be grown in the island.
"Already we have the seedlings and the lands have been prepared for planting," Agriculture Minister Dr Christopher Tufton told the Sunday Observer yesterday.
The project is being funded by a grant of US$10,000 from the Caribbean Rice Growers Association, and has also received financial assistance from the Ministry of Agriculture.
According to the agriculture minister, roughly 15 acres of the crop will be grown at BRUMDEC and Bouges in St Elizabeth, while the remainder is to be cultivated at Amity Hall in St Catherine.
The varieties being experimented with - which include 'sybonnet' from the USA and 'prosequisa' from Venezuela - are expected to yield between seven and 11 metric tonnes per acre.
The island has produced rice in fairly substantial quantities at various times in its history.
The crop has been historically grown in Westmoreland, St Catherine and St Elizabeth.
In 1976 rice cultivation in Westmoreland was limited to the Shrewsbury and Roaring Rivers areas, where it is estimated that a total of 230 acres were under production.
Almost 30 years ago, rice was cultivated in Georges Plain and the Meylersfield area of the parish, covering more than 1,800 acres of land.
In St Catherine, the crop was grown along St John's Road near Dovecot, in the Hellshire Hills and on a 3,000 acre farm at Amity Hall.
At that time too, approximately 6,000 acres of rice were under cultivation in St Elizabeth, with BRUMDEC accounting for 5, 000 acres.
But the yield from the varieties grown at that time, raged from four to six metric tonnes per acre.
The development of rice farming in those days, however, was inhibited by several constraints, mainly, the lack of an efficient rice-drying and milling facility.
Tufton said yesterday, that the move to re-establish the cultivation of rice comes against the background of spiralling food prices and food security concerns.
He said the findings of the experimental plots will be known in October when the crop is harvested.
After that time, he said, a decision would be taken on the variety or varieties to be grown in the island.
Over the last few weeks, Tufton said, presentations have been made to private sector entities, several of which have shown an interest in rice cultivation.
Government, he said, was not interested in cultivating the crop, but is willing to make the necessary resources available to the private sector.
"We are not interested in managing the cultivation of rice, but we intend to provide the necessary resources, including the land to the private sector," Tufton emphasised.
He added that based on preliminary discussions with members of that sector, a local investor has signalled his intention to cultivate 1,000 acres of rice by year end. He did not name the investor.
The Ministry of Agriculture has projected that within the next 12 months at least 5,000 acres of rice would be under cultivation.

In this article we will discuss cheating men and cheating woman.
Men and woman generally cheat for various reasons. To say who cheats more would be more of a guess, even though there are basic statistics out there suggesting that men cheat more than woman, this does not mean that it is fact. In-fact, today, cheating woman is just as common as cheating men.
The main reasons why men generally cheat on their spouse relates to sex. Quite commonly there is a sex problem within the relationship. Whereas a woman generally cheats as a last resort when all her complaints are left unheard, as a last resort a woman may cheat, but it will generally be for emotional reasons rather than for sexual reasons.
If a man continues to show no respect for the woman, continues to ignore her, and gives her no emotional support, some woman may look elsewhere to have their need fulfilled. A man, however, is generally a more simple being. Thats not to say some men arent deep and emotional, however, generally speaking, a man will cheat when he feels his need for sex is not being fulfilled, or, he has spoken to his partner about this and has got not no respectful response.
Most of the reasons cheating woman become unfaithful are reasons that could be easily rectified by a husband who is willing to make the effort and put in some extra work within the relationship. For this reason, we believe that most affairs relating woman cheating on men are preventable.
Cheating men may also be preventable by greater communication and in a mutual agreement where a mans needs can in-fact be met. Some kind of mutual agreement that benefits both in the relationship is always the best bet.
To be honest, cheating is for kids who havent grown up. We recently read a an interesting report that stated, men and woman who are more likely to cheat are those who have been spoilt rotten since kids, have never had to cope with any major stress as partners have always bailed them out, have never dealt with any hard times, have always had everything done for them, and people who like to have their own way. In other words, grown ups with self-respect, self worth, and respect for their partners will generally do whatever they can to make the relationship work.
We believe that if you choose to have a relationship with someone, then you should both love each other before you make the commitment. A relationship is about trust, loyalty, commitment and a lifelong quest of fulfilling each others needs. When you love someone, you live not only with him or her, but also for him or her. There happiness is yours, and there misery is yours, you take the good with the bad, gradually trying to improve the good, whilst overcoming thrown obstacles along the way. With the support and love from each other, there is nothing you both cannot accomplish as a team.
RESIDENTS IN a number of upper St Andrew neighbourhoods have been seeking the urgent assistance of the police to shut down several sex shops that have invaded their communities, "carrying property values down".
Assistant Superintendent of Police Wayne Cameron of the St Andrew Central police confirms that massage parlours or sex shops, are on the rise in the Corporate Area and that the police is currently investigating a number of them.
Personnel at the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC) have confirmed receiving complaints from residents, and a meeting has been convened to discuss the issue of sex shops in residential areas, and how to best address the phenomenon. The KSAC's job is, however, challenging as these "houses of pleasure" are ensconced in high-end residential areas and it's not easy to single them out.
Hefty rent
According to the police, operators of massage parlours have been shelling out hefty sums to rent or lease these homes. "They rent because when they are locked down (by the authorities), its easier for them to set up business elsewhere. They are all over the place," the assistant commissioner tells The Sunday Gleaner, outlining some of the locales, including Havendale, Norbrook, Constant Spring and Molynes Road.
Commenting on the impact of these shops on the real estate sector, Realtor Valerie Levy says, "It's disgraceful and should not be allowed. It will bring down property values, absolutely!"
Noting that she had lost one sale in recent times because of related reasons, she cautions would-be buyers: "You should not only look at a house during weekends. Visit on weekdays as well to see what is going on. These massage parlours are described as health shops, but there are other things going on. They will cause residential areas to change," advises Levy, who is past president of the Realtors Association of Jamaica. She adds that the day and night activity of sex shops also presents a security risk to normal residents.
A source from the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) says massage parlours are - on the face it - legitimate business ventures for which one can be granted a licence to operate in a residential area.
Abetting prostitution
However, the CCN source points out that if transactions, including sex in exchange for money is proven, operators could be charged with aiding and abetting prostitution which is illegal in Jamaica. Those who operate without licences are fined according to the discretion of judges in local courts, with higher fines for habitual offenders.
In central St Andrew, one air-conditioned studio rents for $35,000 monthly and homes with more space may go for US$1,200 (approximately $86,000) monthly and more. But sex shop operators have no problem paying the exorbitant rent. They do not solicit commercial licences nor do they use signage. With the exception of security guards and dogs, and the unusual traffic of persons observed, they retain the residential façade.
The police are currently concerned about the involvement of minors in the operation of sex shops. "Our most recent concern is that there are underaged individuals who are employed. There is also another concern - showing pornographic material to juniors," Cameron discloses.
Pricey dealsSEX SHOPS, according to Assistant Superintendent Wayne Cameron, are mostly patronised by "men of means", whom he describes as "affluent and influential". They, therefore, have the means to pay for almost anything they ask for," he adds.In one daily paper last week, The Sunday Gleaner counted 12 advertisements for sex shops with such captions as "rude, naughty, sexy girls". One said, "Welcome to naughty girls where all your fantasies become realities. Come in and enjoy being pampered by our lovely angels." Calls confirm that many were indeed offering sex for a price.Men and womenPaying between $1,500 to $2,000 for 20 minutes of 'massaging', men and women patronise such pleasure palaces in Swallowfield, Gore Terrace, Dumbarton and other residential enclaves, located within walking distance of many of Kingston's commercial districts. These shops also proliferate in the dormitory town of Portmore.So-called vacation rentals within the central Kingston area also benefit from a brisk and lucrative trade from ladies who offer 'walking-out' services. They employ between six and 12 women on a shift basis, 24 hours per day in safe areas, or closing late at nights in other areas which are considered less safe.At one place in the Half-Way Tree area, a female Gleaner reporter was offered services costing $1,500 and up. The female provider added that oral sex was available for a negotiable cost.Get extrasAt another 'massage parlour', a male reporter was told. "You can pay extra to get extras, it all depends what you need," a woman offered. When told that the caller was a married man and required extreme confidentiality, the woman laughed and told him that he was more likely to talk than she was. You call me when you are ready," she said, stating that she would be on the job from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.At yet another parlour, our caller was told that all girls were light skin or fair skinned. All "parlours" stipulated that the use of condoms was an absolute must. One resident in Constant Spring tells The Sunday Gleaner that the sex shop in her community had been there for more than eight years. "We know it is a sex shop from the way the place looks. They have security, and on the veranda they have partitions, so we can't see inside. Different men come there at odd times. They have security dogs too," she relates.
The
entertainment at the Riverside Side Drive-in go-go club in Damhead, St
Catherine, came to an abrupt end on Saturday night when gunmen shot and
killed two persons there and injured a third.
The
dead have been identified as Shawn Henry, also known as 'Sleepy', 18
years old of Innswood Village; and 28-year-old Owen Watson, a truck
driver of Stratmore Gardens, both in St Catherine. A female employee
was also shot and injured.
The Star learnt
that about 10:30 p.m., Henry, who is employed as a gate man at the
club, was on duty when two men with whom he reportedly had an argument
walked up, drew handguns from their waistbands and fired shots hitting
him and Watson, killing them on the spot.
The female supervisor who was standing nearby also received gunshot wounds.
This
sent several persons running for cover, while the men reportedly walked
away from the venue. The St Catherine North homicide team, which is
investigating, says reprisal is the motive for the double murder.
The killing occurred on the same day that THE STAR
carried a story about cops warning go-go club owners. It also followed
a killing at the Silver Spoon go-go club in May Pen, Clarendon, earlier
this month in which a female exotic dancer was stabbed to death and her
colleague being charged with murder.
A *lo**y feud is being planned in retaliation to the shooting death of the mother of a well known don in St. Thomas, The Star has been informed.
The woman who was buried on the weekend was killed in Yallahs in the parish early this month. She was killed, sources say, in reprisal of another don's slaying which occurred in the parish in late May.
Information reaching this newspaper are that more than 50 people aligned to another don who was killed in St Thomas last month have been marked for death. Most of the victims we have been told are living in the parish capital, Morant Bay.
There was attempt to commence the attacks last Thursday night, a source told our news team, with an attack on the house of a man in Morant Bay, who is said to be the lieutenant of the don who was killed recently. The man, however, escaped the attack.
"A war a go go on," one informant said, "because (the man who escaped the attack) not going to take it so," the source continued.
St Thomas, formerly a quiet rural parish has been seeing an alarming rise in homicides in recent years. Police admit that all major crimes have gone down except murders, which rose 42 per cent compared to the same period last year.
Reprisal attacksThe Morant Bay police said it had no information of planned reprisal attacks, but said the police would be prepared for any occurrences.
Deputy superintendent in charge of crime in the parish, Carlos Bell, said there was no known rivalry between the two dons.
"I don't have the slightest whim that there might be a reprisal," he said. He said a strong police presence was maintained at the funeral yesterday and the police would be maintaining a strong presence in the parish.
The source of the problem Star sources say, is a power struggle which took an ugly turn after the late don was given a contract to protect the Yallahs ford where a bridge is being constructed. But a rift started developing between the two dons, said to be supporters of the ruling Jamaica Labour Party after a man who was a key ally of one don switched his allegiance and began doing work for the other who was killed a month ago. That man was killed earlier this year.I have a problem that has been bothering me and I am afraid of going to the authorities. I am a member of staff at a preparatory school in St Andrew. There is a male teacher there who is a homosexual and has sexually assaulted an 11-year-old boy. The boy complained to his parents about it and they came to the school raging and this was how we found out. The problem is that this was swept under the carpet by persons in authority and he continues to teach here. There are so many vulnerable boys attending this school and as a mother of a child I am really worried for these kids. This man should not be around children.
What can be done, pastor?
O.S., Kingston, Jamaica
Dear O.S.,
What about the parents of the boy? What action have they taken? Is the boy still attending the school? Are you really sure that a teacher sexually abused a student and the teacher is still at the school?
PastorA St Catherine higgler, who has been in custody for several months after being charged with gross indecency, remains with the police despite being granted bail.
The man of a Point Hill address had his bail offer further extended until August 5 when he appeared before Resident Magistrate Lorna Errar in the Spanish Town RM Court on Tuesday.
BeatenAllegations are that in August 2007, the man picked up two boys, 13 and 14, and took them to his house where he conducted lewd sex acts with them. If they refused, they were beaten.
One of the boys escaped and informed a pastor of his ordeal. A report was made to the police and the man arrested.
On his first court appearance, he said it was the boys who took advantage of him.
The RM expressed concern that no one has come forward to bail the accused.Popular United States online gossip columnist, Perez Hilton, is continuing his tirade against Jamaica's stance on homosexuality, by adding a new post entitled 'More reasons why Jamaica sucks' to his website, www.perezhilton.com.
Hilton, the self-proclaimed 'queen' of media, who is also known for his flamboyant wardrobe and attitude, is host of a popular website which has become a hot spot for the latest entertainment news and gossip.
Embedded in the post, which was added on June 23, was a link to an article published online at www.globeandmail.com and titled 'It was a Total Nightmare'. In this article, a 30-year-old gay man, who reportedly fled Jamaica for Canada because of the threat of violence, spoke about his experiences as a gay man living in Jamaica.
The man will be the grand marshall of the Gay Pride Toronto parade, to be held this weekend. He spoke of watching a friend being beaten, stoned and chopped to death in Montego Bay, and described life in Jamaica as "miserable with happy times". He also claimed he was beaten and threatened by police officers, and said 13 of his friends had been murdered in Jamaica.
Refugee statusAccording to the article, the man moved to Canada last January and has filed an application for refugee status. He had high praises for life in Canada and said, "I don't have to look over my shoulder when I walk down the street. Canada is what I want to see Jamaica mirror."
The post has received 243 comments, many of which express extreme disgust and disapproval of the "homophobic conditions" that exist in Jamaica. One person, identified as Chris, wrote "Jamaica sucks, they're all just monkeys, inside and certainly out". Another added, "What a horrible country", while someone else asserted, "I will never visit that country. Never. I'm sure there are other nice parts, but that is intolerable."
Another person, Chaka, wrote,"Face it, your country does suck. A close friend went to Jamaica for her honeymoon. Three days later, they were robbed in their hotel room. Her husband was killed trying to protect her. Torturing and killing gay people is against God's laws. It's wrong and you know it. Don't sit here and talk about your beautiful beaches while you are doing nothing to stop these crimes against humanity."
Other comments, however, re-emphasised the fact that homosexuality is against the law in Jamaica, and chastised Hilton for attacking the entire country. One woman wrote, "I think it's unfair to say an entire country sucks because of weakness that exists in one policy!"DRUG smuggling has reached new depths with drug lords using SUBMARINES to smuggle cocaine out of Col****ia.
As the authorities step up efforts to stop airplanes and speedboats long used to export drugs from the worlds biggest cocaine producing country, traffickers are turning to vessels that travel under water to carry on their trade.
With only breathing tubes and mini navigation equipment above the surface, they leave almost no wake, making them hard to spot from the air.
Sub ... cramped
They can sometimes be spied by coast guard patrols and their sound can be picked up by Navy submarines equipped with sonar.
The diesel-fuelled craft are used mostly on the Pacific coast to take drugs to Central America and Mexico for eventual sale in the United States.
The Navy estimates the boats travel up to two weeks to get to their destinations.
They can transport up to 10 tonnes of cocaine on each voyage, after which they are scuttled to avoid questions.
Each costs about $600,000 to make, carries four to five crew members and is outfitted with one or two propellers, allowing it to travel at 10 to 12 knots, the Navy says.
Most are more than 50 feet long and built by drug smuggling groups sometimes in collusion with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Col****ia, or FARC, which funds its four-decade-old Marxist insurgency with the drug trade.
Col****ia exports 600 tonnes of cocaine per year, according to United Nations monitors, about a third of it from the Pacific coast.
Last week, two of the main artists featured in this blog were Amy Winehouse and Kanye West. Well, what little difference a week makes! Both are still in the news, seven days later.
So last week Kanye made headlines for showing up almost two hours late for his Bonnaroo gig--and consequently getting Bonna-booed by angry audience members. And this week, Kanye is making headlines for doing what every tough, fiery-tempered rapper does when dissed...um, he's blogging. And he's typing almost entirely in ALL CAPS! Ooh, watch out!
Yes, Kanye is mad, and he's not going to take it anymore."This Bonnaroo thing is the worst insult I've ever had in my life. This is the most offended I've ever been...this is the maddest I ever will be," he spewed this weekon his official website, kanyeuniversity.com.
(Hmmmm. You'd think he would have been more offended/mad about his mother Donda's botched/fatal surgery, or when he was completely shut out at last year's VMAs, or when Evel Knievel sued him, or when his engagement was called off, or when he went on that Hurricane Katrina telethon and made those anti-Bush comments, one when that woman beat him with a shovel in his bizarre "Flashing Lights" music video, etc...but hey, everyone has their own breaking point, we suppose. Anyway, after this grammatically and typographically correct opening statement, Kanye apparently hit the capslock button on his Macbook Air and went positively ballistic. And we quote (FYI, all caplocked expletives have been excised for easily offended readers' protection, not to mention to save space...although Kanye's spelling errors have been left totally intact, just for personality's sake):
"NEVER SAY I DIDN'T GIVE MY ALL! NEVER SAY I DIDN'T GIVE MY ALL! THIS SHOWS NO MATTER HOW HARD YOU TRY TO BE GOOD AT SOMETHING THERE WILL BE PEOPLE THERE TO LIE ABOUT YOU AND BRING YOU DOWN! LIKE WAYNE SAYS PLEASE DON'T SHOOT ME DOWN CAUSE I'M FLYING! I'M HURT BY THIS ONE. ALL I CARE ABOUT ARE THE FANS. JUST SAY THIS OUT LOUD IN A ROOM FULL OF PEOPLE, "KANYE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT GIVING A GOOD PERFORMANCE." CAN ANYONE HONESTLY SAY THAT ????????? HAS ANYONE EVEN TAKEN THE TIME TO AT LEAST DO THE MATH??? BONNAROO SHOULD HAVE RELEASED A STATEMENT IN MY DEFENSE BUT SINCE THEY HAVEN'T LET'S BREAK DOWN THE WALLS ON THIS TRUMAN SHOW AND LET YOU KNOW WHAT REALLY OCCURRED!!! FOR OVER A MONTH WE WENT BACK AND FORTH ON WETHER OR NOT WE COULD EVEN FIT MY STAGE AT THE FESTIVAL. ONE DAY THEY WOULD SAY YES... WE'D SEND THEM OUR SPECS THEN THEY THEY'D SAY OK... THEN THEY WOULD SEND SPECS BACK THAT DIDN'T FIT THE STAGE. WE WERE OBVIOUSLY DEALING WITH IDIOTS WHO DIDN'T REALLY HAVE THE CAPACITY TO REALLY PUT ON THIS SHOW PROPERLY. THEY TRIED 2 GIVE ME A TIME SLOT WERE IT WAS STILL LIGHT OUTSIDE ... I HAVE A LIGHT SHOW, IT'S NOT CALLED GLOW IN THE DARK FOR NO REASON SQUID BRAINS! MY PEOPLE WORKED OUT A COMPROMISED STAGE PLOT AND A 3AM TIME SLOT AND I AGREED. FAST FOWARD TO THE DAY OF THE SHOW. MY PRODUCTION MANAGER TRIED TO LOAD IN FOR 24 HOURS BEFORE I WENT ON STAGE BUT THE FESTIVAL WOULDN'T ALLOW US TO DO ANYTHING UNTILL PEARL JAM LEFT THE STAGE. PEARL JAM ENDED ONE HOUR LATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AT THAT POINT WE'RE RACING AGAINST THE SUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AT 4:20AM DON COMES BACK 2 THE BUS AND TELLS ME, "IT WOULD TAKE 45 MORE MINUTES TO PUT ALL YOUR PYRO IN!" I SAY I HAVE TO GET OUT THERE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE."
But wait, there's more! This is regarding all the liquid on the Bonnaroo stage, the residue of angry concertgoers' beer-tossing protests:
"I STEPPED ON THE FRONT PART OF MY STAGE AND THERE WAS SO MUCH LIQUID ON THE STAGE I COULDN'T MOVE WITHOUT SLIPPING. I HAD TO ADJUST MY WHOLE PERFORMANCE STYLE BECAUSE OF IT. A FEW MORE SONGS IN AND THE SONG WAS ON IT'S WAY UP.. I CUT A FEW SONGS FROM THE SET BECAUSE I WANTED PEOPLE 2 EXPERIENCE STRONGER WHILE THERE WAS STILL SOME DARKNESS TO PERFORM IT IN. I'VE STRUGGLED WITH STRONGER FROM IT'S CONCEPTION. REMEMBER LAST SUMMER WHEN I CANCELED SOME TV APPEARANCES. IT WAS BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT TO PERFORM STRONGER IN THE DAYTIME. ANYONE WHO CAME TO THE GLOW TOUR CAN UNDERSTAND WHY I WANTED PEOPLE TO SEE IT PROPERLY. IT BROKE MY HEART THAT I COULDN'T GIVE THESE FANS STRONGER IN IT'S GREATEST FORM... BY THE TIME I GOT TO STRONGER IT WAS DAYTIME AND IT BROKE MY HEART. I'M SORRY TO EVERYONE THAT I DIDN'T HAVE THE ABILITY 2 GIVE THE PERFORMANCE I WANTED TO. I'M SORRY... SOMETIMES I GO 2, 3 DAYS W/O SLEEP WORKING ON MY PERFORMANCE... I HAVE TO ICE MY KNEES AFTER EVERY SHOW AND THEY HURT WHEN I WALK THROUGH THE AIRPORT... HAVING AN EXPENSIVE STAGE CUTS MY PAYDAY IN HALF... CALL ME WHAT YOU WANT BUT NEVER SAY I DIDN'T GIVE MY ALL!!!
Allrighty, then. Kanye has spoken. Let's hope getting all that off his puffed-up chest helped with his anger management. (Hopefully his two wins at this week's BET Awards helped, too.) And let's hope that things go more smoothly for everyone involved when Kanye graces the (hopefully liquid-free) Lollapalooza and the Virgin Mobile Festival stages in August.
So it's been a news worthy few days regarding the fiasco of Buck and 50 Cent/G Unit, and boy does it get juicy with the entire conversation finally hitting the web.
After the five minute version was initially released and scored mix reactions from our readers, Buck earlier today dropped a diss to save face. In this diss, Buck who was not aware 50 was taping the talks, had to counteract the fact he teared up, to get into a group, that he later is seen on video, saying, f**k them(G-Unit). So what else did Buck tell his fans that still is trying to figure out a way to defend his actions? He raps, the conversation was over a year old, and that anyone who tapes a conversation must have dealings or sorts wit 5-0.
So in this full version, we hear Buck saying, he's about to lose everything due to back taxes, and how Sha Money dropped the ball in getting him one show, while 50 and his soldiers were out on a month long tour which he could have joined. He blamed that for one of the reasons of him not getting money and being able to pay 50 back. Shame on you Sha!
So lets backtrack for a second. Didn't Buck say this conversation was over a year old? So why is Buck apologizing to 50 in reference to an incident that took place earlier this year? He states that he was doing a show in Chattanooga trying to feel the climate of him appearing on stage with Lil Wayne. I'm not a mathematician, but i sure know that five months doesn't equal over a year. Also Buck apologizes for his comments he made regarding him not receiving royalty checks, which he expressed few months earlier as well. It's definitely not looking good for Buck's cred following this, and also to add that he admitted taping convo's of Game to expose.
The rest of the conversation details around the fact that Buck and 50 don't even have each other numbers, the groups leader reminding Buck, that even after someone does something to him one time, he lets them go and Buck responds with, "That's that bullshit bro". The statement was in regards to Game flip flopping his feelings towards 50 that he likes him one day, and the other day its BWS and f**k G Unit. In the the closing moments of the call, 50 scolds Buck for not updating him on the status of his availability and what he's involved with, and offers Buck, Tony Yayo's spot (due to his legal problems) for the shows they have Canada.
Stay tuned and grab your popcorn as this gets interesting.
A REPORT on human trafficking in Jamaica, commissioned by the National Task Force against Trafficking in Persons within the Ministry of National Security, reveals a connection between sexual exploitation, forced labour and tourism.
Completed late last year, the report: 'Human trafficking for sexual exploitation and forced labour in Jamaica', was prepared by Sybil Ricketts and Dr Leith Dunn of Kingston-based Searchcon Resource Consultants. The study was conducted in Kingston and St Andrew, Negril in Westmoreland and Montego Bay, St James. The findings indicate that the tourist industry, more specifically, the informal sex industry, is a significant contributor to the exploitation of individuals.
Escort advertising
The findings showed that several children in the western resort town of Negril were victims of human trafficking, which was directly related to increased advertising for escort services. Eleven victims from the area were singled out in the study.
"Girls as young as 13 are full-fledged prostitutes," the report noted, stating that some of them live on their own, while others are taken to holding areas in the communities and used as dancers in the more popular nightclubs.
The study also showed consistent poor school attendance by minors in Negril. It says "many (young girls) were observed loitering on a daily basis in the town".
A non-random sampling method was used to select persons for interviews, and a snowballing method employed to reach a sample size of 29 victims. Snowballing involves identifying key informants who then referred researchers to other respondents.
Predominantly female
Across the island, the report confirms that the victims of trafficking are predominantly female (79.3 per cent) with the modal age group being 18 to 24 years, primarily high school leavers without children or partners. Forty-three per cent of the victims were involved in exotic dancing or commercial sex work.
The report highlighted the case of three female victims from Negril who were trafficked to Manchester at night after being promised work and continued schooling, but instead were sexually exploited.
One male victim was recruited through an agency to work at a bank in Grenada, but instead was held under house arrest with others. In yet another case, a child was pimped and constantly forced into sexual activities by her mother.
The majority reported that they worked as sex workers while being trafficked. Another 12.5 per cent worked in a bar or club as well as performed other duties.
Poverty and unemployment were noted by the report as main risk factors for trafficking.
The celebrity gossip site TMZ.com said it is being sued for $20 million by Verne "Mini-Me" Troyer from the "Austin Powers" movies, after the site allegedly aired portions of a sex tape featuring Troyer and a former live-in girlfriend.
Troyer filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, claiming TMZ.com and TMZ TV show violated his privacy rights and infringed on his copyright and trademark by running portions of the tape, according to the site.
TMZ said that Troyer is also claiming that the site violated his right of privacy and misappropriated his name and likeness, and is seeking an injunction to stop further dissemination of the tape.
Troyer also named Kevin Blatt as a defendant in the suit, TMZ said. The site said Thursday that Blatt is trying to sell the tape, which was purportedly obtained from a third party.
According to TMZ, Blatt is the same dealer who brokered Paris Hilton's sex video, and that he was entertaining an offer of $100,000 from a company called Sugar DVD to distribute the Troyer video.
The 2-foot-8-inch Troyer played Dr. Evil's (Mike Myers) diminutive clone in "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me" and "Austin Powers in Goldmember." The 39-year-old actor also stars as Toronto Maple Leafs coach Punch Cherkov in Myers' new comedy "The Love Guru."
