NEW YORK - A New York publisher is suing Foxy Brown and Lil' Kim, saying they were paid advances for books they never delivered.

Simon & Schuster Inc. says Brown was paid $75,000 in 2005 to deliver an autobiography called "Broken Silence" by February 2006; and Lil' Kim was paid $40,000 in 2003 for a novel due June 2004.

The publisher wants its money back through the two lawsuits filed Thursday.

After signing the deals, both women were imprisoned for several months. Lil' Kim went to prison in 2005 for lying about a shooting, and Brown in 2007 for violating probation arising from a fight with two manicurists.

Brown's attorney says she hasn't seen the lawsuit and can't comment. Lil' Kim's attorney didn't immediately return a call Thursday.

A musical publishing company that owns the rights to the Rolling Stones' song "Play With Fire" sued U.S. rapper Lil Wayne on Thursday, saying he released an altered version of the song without permission
Lil Wayne's "Playing with Fire" is a clear derivative of the Rolling Stones song with the original lyrics and music altered in a recognizable way, Abkco said in its lawsuit.
In one example, the lawsuit said a lyric from the Stones song is "But don't play with me, 'cause you're playing with fire," and the Lil Wayne version has the line, "But you can't blame me if I set this stage on fire."

Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter, was proclaimed rapper of the year in 2007 by The New Yorker magazine.

Chart-topping rapper DMX pleaded not guilty to a pair of felony theft charges in a Phoenix court on Thursday, and then treated reporters to an impromptu rap about bouncing back from adversity.
DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was charged with one count of theft and one count of taking someone else's identity.
The charges stemmed from a visit Simmons made to the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona, in April during which he gave his name as "Troy Jones," allegedly to avoid paying for treatment.

After denying the charges, he serenaded reporters waiting outside the Maricopa County Superior Court.

"If and when you ever fall down, get back up," Simmons began, according to a censored recording on a local radio station's Web site.

"Drop something, stop fretting, pick that ... back up, stand for something or fall for everything, wait for the right pitch or miss with every swing," Simmons sang

Six of the UK's biggest net providers have agreed a plan with the music industry to tackle piracy online.

The deal, negotiated by the government, will see hundreds of thousands of letters sent to net users suspected of illegally sharing music.

Hard core file-sharers could see their broadband connections slowed, under measures proposed by the UK government.

BT, Virgin, Orange, Tiscali, BSkyB and Carphone Warehouse have all signed up.

 

Geoff Taylor, chief executive of the BPI, which represents the music industry, said: "All of the major ISPs in the UK now recognise they have a responsibility to deal with illegal file-sharers on their networks."

Mr Taylor said it had taken years to persuade ISPs to adopt this view.

The plan commits the firms to working towards a "significant reduction" in the illegal sharing of music.

It also commits the net firms to develop legal music services. "Conversations are ongoing between record labels and ISPs," said Mr Taylor.

Letters to pirates

The BPI has focused on educational efforts and limited legal action in recent years, in contrast to the US, which has embarked on tens of thousands of lawsuits against alleged file sharers.

The six internet service providers have signed a Memorandum of Understanding drawn up by the Department for Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform (BERR).

 

The Motion Picture Association of America has also signed up.

The BPI said the memorandum covered consumers who were both uploading and downloading music.

Mr Taylor said: "The focus is on people sharing files illegally; there is not an acceptable level of file-sharing. Musicians need to be paid like everyone else."

He added: "File-sharing (of copyright tracks without permission) is not anonymous, it is not secret, it is against the law."

At the same time the government has started a consultation exercise that could result in laws that force net firms to tackle music piracy. A working group will be set up under the auspices of regulator Ofcom to look at effective measures to tackle persistant file-sharers.

Mr Taylor said newspaper reports stating that online users could be subject to an annual levy to cover losses from file-sharing were incorrect.

"A levy is not an issue under discussion. It has not been discussed between us and government and as far as we are aware it is not on the table."

He said: "There should be effective mechanisms in place (to deter file-sharing) and as long as they are effective, we don't mind what they are."

The consultation document proposed that hard core file-sharers could have technical measures imposed, such as "traffic management or filtering and marking of legitimate content to facilitate identification".

In the past few weeks net firms Virgin and BT have sent letters to some customers identified by the BPI, which represents the UK record industry, as persistent music pirates.

'Long process'

Before now the BPI has called for a "three-strikes" system which would see net connections of persistent pirates terminated if three warnings went ignored.

Many net firms have resisted the call from the BPI and have said it is not their job to act as policemen.

Feargal Sharkey, chief executive of British Music Rights, said the plan was "a first step, and a very big step, in what we all acknowledge is going to be quite a long process".

Mr Sharkey, formerly lead singer with The Undertones added: "Government, particularly in the UK, has now realised there is an issue, there is a problem there."

One BBC News website user Mark, from Hampshire, said he downloaded and shared files illegally and argued customers were "getting their own back".

In an e-mail, he said: "I used to run half a dozen record shops in the 80s and saw how far the fat cats of the record industry would go, in milking customers and retailers dry with more hyped rubbish."

A retired NYPD sergeant was shot and killed by police this morning after the raving ex-cop opened fire on officers outside his Staten Island home, sources said.

Jason Aiello, under investigation by both the NYPD and the FBI for his possible role in the April murder of his former employer, screamed at officers as he waived his 9 mm handgun.

"Jason, drop the gun!" at least one of the responding officers hollered.

Aiello was warned a second and third time, but instead of dropping the weapon, he started shooting. Police returned fire and fatally struck Aiello in the head as his wife and three terrified children, ages 7, 4 and 2, watched in horror.

"He was a cop," a police source said. "He knew what to do when ordered to drop his weapon. It looks like suicide by cop."

Officers raced to Aiello's home after at least three 911 callers reported a crazed gunman threatening his family, sources said.

Aiello's wife had already gotten the couple's three children - son, 7, and daughters, ages 2 and 4 - into a car to escape when the officers arrived, sources said.

Aiello's name surfaced on April 29 after his boss, Louis Antonelli, a jeweler and his longtime friend, was gunned down outside El Sabor Tropical in West Brighton.

Antonelli, 43, had more than $200,000 worth of jewelry with him when he was shot, but the loot was not touched.

Aiello, a sometime bodyguard for the jeweler, was inside the restaurant at the time of the shooting and wasn't hurt. Antonelli died May 12 from his wounds.

"Everybody was watching Aiello. He was under a great, big spotlight," a law enforcement source said. "Apparently, he couldn't take it."

Two men were charged with murder in Antonelli's murder. Law enforcement sources haven't ruled out mob ties in that shooting.

A security guard stationed at the Horizon Remand Centre who was caught attempting to smuggle marijuana inside the facility, was sentenced when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Devon Thomas pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana and trafficking marijuana into a penal institution before Resident Magistrate Glen Brown.

The court was told that security officials at the institution observed Thomas behaving in a manner that aroused their suspicions. He was searched and a bag containing a smaller transparent bag with matter resembling marijuana was found.

He reportedly told the guards that he had been asked to deliver the bag and did not check to see what its contents were.

He was ordered to pay $200 or serve seven days for possession, and $500 or 30 days for trafficking the contraband.

ATLANTA -- Gov. Sonny Perdue on Wednesday signed legislation allowing guns in restaurants, on public transportation and in parks.
A number of groups and had urged Perdue to veto the measure saying it could lead to increased violence. Among them were the Georgia Restaurant Association, MARTA and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin also opposes the bill.
It was backed by the National Rifle Association.
The new law would only apply to the roughly 300,000 Georgians that have concealed weapons permits. Those permit holders have passed criminal background checks.

The Fraud Squad is now probing a multimillion-dollar credit-card racket at the Customs Department, THE STAR has learnt.

One high-ranking adminis-trator at the department, confirmed to THE STAR yester-day that the police were indeed investigating cases where persons were allegedly using fraudulent cards to pay for goods.

"There is an investigation into a case involving officers who are employed to the wharves ... I cannot give the full details, but investigations are ongoing," the administrator said.

Fraud Squad investigators are alleging that over an unspecified period, false credit cards and false identification cards have been used to pay for containers of goods shipped to the wharves.

The probe into the case has also uncovered that the fake cards are forged in the names of persons and business entities which are known to import large shipments of goods into the country.

It is also further alleged that employees within the depart-ment are involved in the scam.

THE STAR learnt that the Customs Department was made aware of the scam by associated financial institutions, after which the police were alerted.

Earlier this month, a customs broker was charged in con-nection with the racket.

34-year-old Kirk Wilson who is attached to one of the brokerage firms on the Kingston Wharves appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court, facing several counts of fraud.

He is accused of using a fake credit card to pay for goods valued at millions of dollars.

He was released on $500,000 bail and is to return to court on August 19.

Man Robbed While Trying To Purchase Crack Cocaine Calls Cops, Is Arrested

A man who called police in East Hartford Connecticut Monday seems to have lost sight of his priorities.

He reported he'd paid money for goods never received, presumably hoping they would chase down the guilty parties.

But authorities were more interested in the fact that the man was trying to purchase crack cocaine at the time of the theft, and charged him with criminal attempt to commit possession of narcotics.

The Judge at his arraignment reportedly asked if he "really thought" police would go after those who'd done him wrong.  Prosecutors later dropped the charges.

The man had been ripped off a total of eight dollars.

I don't want a relationship right now.

This phrase is a huge game-killer for many reasons, whether she says it or you say it. There are a couple reasons why it *u*ks, the first of which is because it's ambiguous. The problem is that "relationship" means different things to different people.

1 - It could mean "I am blowing you off politely"

2 - It could mean "I just want a one night stand, and I don't want to call you in the morning".

3 - It could mean "I don't want to be your GF/BF, I just want something really casual (but affectionate)".

4 - It could also mean "You're giving me needy vibes like you want to be my BF, and it's turning me off - please change".

Usually when guys say this to women, they mean "I don't want to be your BF", and the girl takes it as "I just want an ONS".

Often when women say this to guys, they mean they want something casual, or "you're being needy" and guys take it as a total blowoff.

Either way, when this phrase gets said, people don't hook up, and happiness and joy don't come. Shame.

The other problem with "I don't want a relationship right now" is that if taken literally, it demonstrates a dorky lack of social intuition and emotional honesty. After all, if you met The Girl of Your Dreams, would you not be open to a relationship? If your answer is still no, you're a cold hearted social retard who will die unhappy. If your answer is yes, you're a liar. So what do you do?

Don't say it!

Most of the time, you can just "go with the flow", and if you're a little bit open for a relationship (with the right girl), yet very picky, you'll have the same attitude as 90% of the women out there - no relationship discussion needed.

In the event you still feel the need to make it clear to her verbally what your intentions are, "I'm not looking for something serious" works a lot better - you're cool with a friends w/benefits type relationship, and if your chemestry was *really* good, you still might be open for something serious. This is the kind of attitude that most women are totally cool with.

"A 68-year-old Tampa woman was arrested today for forcing a severally mentally handicapped man to perform oral sex on her, police say.

Luella McAdoo is a longtime family friend of the victim, according to Tampa police spokeswoman Andrea Davis.

On April 5, the man's mother left him in McAdoo's care while she ran errands. When she came home at about 6 p.m., she found her son performing oral sex on McAdoo. The woman told McAdoo to go home, then she called police because her son, 34, does not have the ability to make a decision about sex on his own, Davis said.

The investigation, Davis said, was particularly challenging because of the victim's mental condition and inability to communicate verbally.

After the detectives investigated, according to Davis, they direct filed the case with the State Attorney's Office, who filed charges.

McAdoo was arrested at her 953 Chestnut St. W home this morning by Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputies on a Tampa police warrant, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. As thousands of eager patrons gathered at the Catherine Hall Entertainment Complex for Sumfest's Dance-hall Night, police held a man suspected to be wanted in Kingston for murder.

"The man was spotted and whisked away to jail," revealed Superintendent Steve McGregor commanding officer for St James and ground commander at Sumfest.

McGregor explained that the police will not yet reveal the suspect's name.

The man was held just before 3 a.m. on Friday.

McGregor stated that there were no major complaints. He did, however, disclose that there were some reports of personal belongings such as purses or cameras being either stolen or lost.

The incident which has left the girlfriend now battling for life at KPH, is theorized by investigators to be a case of attempted murder suicide. Vybz Kartel has teamed up again with his business partner Corey Todd
 -- with whom he did his premium liquor, Vybz Rum -- to launch a line of condoms for the Jamaican market. The brand is on schedule to hit the market in late July or early August, Todd told One876Entertainment.com in an exclusive interview. According to Todd, the decision to produce the condom is not only a very sound business decision but a good idea to promote the concept of safe sex. According to Jones-Griffith, Mavado has another assignment on that day and the Warlord will be on an overseas engagement himself. Even though he issued the statement, be it intentional or not he failed to reveal details surrounding their engagements and now some dancehall insiders who are advocating for peace are wondering if it's just another ploy to avoid being in close confines with the Dancehall Doctor. Last week event promoter, Cabel Jeffrey Stephenson of Free People Entertainment had issued a statment to the press saying that if Bounty or any of his Alliance cronies had showed up at the event they would have been treated with the outmost respect and be well catered for. Men sentenced for setting friend's crotch ablaze

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Two practical jokers are behind bars for setting their passed-out drinking buddy's crotch ablaze while boozing in Grover Beach. Matthew Craig Pillers and Jack Brent Nicholas Keiffer pleaded no contest to a felony great bodily injury charge.

Prosecutors say the 22-year-old Pillers, a parolee, was sentenced to two years in prison and the 19-year-old Keiffer got 45 days in San Luis Obispo County jail.

Elliot Tuleja was passed out when the men poured cologne on the man's groin and set him on fire on Jan. 18. Tuleja had second-degree burns on his testicles.

A healthy relationship has fulfilling sex as one of its critical components. Sexual desire is important to men and women who want to engage in sexual intercourse. The desire for sex is the same as sexual arousal, with feelings of excitement, passion, romantic desires and the physical signs of an erection in men, and lubrication and aroused nipples in women.

Sexual arousal is the way one feels and senses; it's a body and mind connection resulting in *lo** rush, sweaty palms, racing heartbeats and having the feeling to engage in sex (horniness). At times, both men and women lack the desire for sex and have great difficulty in feeling aroused. In trying to find solutions to your low sex drive, it is important to examine what is happening in your life. Any of the following reasons could be the cause of your low desire for sex.

1. Medical conditions

The side effects of medication could sap your sex drive, as well as symptoms of disease like chronic pain. Depression is a common medical condition that could be affecting your sex drive, and medications for its treatment, such as antidepressants and psychotic medication, may aggravate the problem of low sex drive.

Visit your doctor and share your problems.

2. Environment

The state of your physical surroundings can make you feel uncomfortable about having sex. For example, if you have a leaking roof and your home is likely to get wet when it rains, the desire for sex would be further from your mind.

3. Psychosexual problems

Men may have problems with erections or premature ejaculation and women may have painful intercourse or failure to reach orgasm. Efforts should be made to resolve these to renew the interest in sex.

4. Stress

Examine the causes of your stress and take time to eliminate or reduce them. Acknowledge and manage life changes. The desire for sex comes when you have time to relax and worry is lessened. Take time out to be in tune with your body for it to suggest sex and get you in the mood.

5. Poor relationship

If you and your partner are not enjoying a harmonious relationship and have relationship issues, you will have great difficulty in 'feeling sexy'. Nagging, angry outbursts, fights, spite and malice cannot foster a desire for sex. If you are not feeling happy with your relationship, you should not feel obliged to engage in sexual intercourse with your partner just 'to keep the peace'. If this takes place regularly, it could become a permanent turn-off from sex.

6. Poor diets

Diet has a direct relationship on the body and its ability to be aroused for sex. Ensure that you are eating lavish amounts of life-enhancing foods like fruits and vegetables, and reduce the intake of processed foods. You may want to take a supplement of zinc to increase the testosterone hormone which regulates sexual drive in men and women.

Simmering exercise

In addition to correcting the causes identified above, Bernie Zilbergeld, PhD, clinical psychologist and author of The New Male Sexuality, recommends using the simmering exercise developed by sex therapist Carol Ellison and himself. The exercise requires a few minutes a day. The process is as follows:

The next time you are 'feeling sex' hold on to it and try to expand it into a fantasy, imagining what you would like to do with your partner. Fantasise as much as you can and keep playing with your thoughts to make your own x-rated movie and hold on to vivid images as long as you can.

An hour or two later, try to replay those x-rated images, making alterations if you wish. Repeat this action at various times of the day. You can intensify the sensations if you relax and let yourself become aware of your pelvis and genitals. Include some Kegal exercises, in which you squeeze and relax your pelvic muscles 15 times, twice per day. Gradually increase the number of squeezes to 75 times, two times per day. Strengthened pelvic muscles increases the intensity of orgasms.

Continue to do this for an hour or two every day in your spare time. The next time you bring back the images, be sure to include your partner in it, if you have not done so already. You can bring back old images to mind as they were, or fade in new images.

When you get together with your partner you should be ready for action. You may want to alert your partner that you are in the mood even before you get home. You can do this by a flirtatious or suggestive message by phone. However, you may want to leave it to the element of surprise, taking home the sexual images and playing them out.

Dr Zilbergeld advises that simmering should be done as a regular part of your preparation for sex. This helps you to feel sexy and improves sex performance. Simmering is easy to do and does not get in the way of your work. Sexual desire is achievable if you know what to do and make the effort to work at it.

Usain Bolt is worried chilly weather could slow him down in the rematch between the world's two fastest men at the DN Galan athletics meet today.

The weather forecast calls for scattered clouds and temperatures at 14 Celsius (57 F) at the time of the race.

''It's cold for me, I definitely prefer to run in warmer weather,'' Bolt said. "I'm from tropical Jamaica. I hope the weather changes.''

A dozen sprinters in the field have personal bests of under 10 seconds in the 100 metres. Bolt set the world record of 9.72 seconds in New York on May 31, breaking Powell's mark of 9.74. They last met at Jamaica's Olympic trials in late June with Bolt winning. Both qualified for the Beijing Games.

Powell is trying for a third straight victory at Stockholm's Olympic Stadium, where 83 world records - more than any other site in the world - have been broken since 1912.

Last year, Powell won the 100 at the DN Galan in 10.04. In 2006, he set the stadium record of 9.86.
