TONY Blairs blundering bodyguard left a deadly loaded pistol in full view of coffee shop customers and their children.

The semi-automatic Glock 17 remained on the floor of the Starbucks cafes only toilet for nearly 20 minutes.

The bodyguard, a girl cop who is the former PMs close protection officer, left it there after spending a penny while on duty.

It was eventually found by a horrified Starbucks employee, who called 999.

Armed police rushed to the cafe to recover it.

Linked

Meanwhile the high-flying officer, in her 30s and wearing plain clothes, was searching frantically for the gun after realising her mistake.

She spent nearly an hour trying to retrace her steps.

The pistol was eventually linked to her when cops compared its serial number to those logged at a police armoury.

Scotland Yard chiefs hit the roof. And the bodyguard, whose job is to protect Mr Blair from al-Qaeda terrorists, has been removed from operational duties.

A senior police source said last night: She knows she has messed up bad. The officer, attached to the Yards crack SO1 protection unit, was caught short while on Edgware Road, Central London near one of Mr Blairs homes.

She took off a belt holding the Glock while she relieved herself in the Starbucks toilet used by men and women, boys and girls.

After leaving the loo the absent-minded cop stopped to buy a coffee and then walked out completely forgetting she had left the gun behind.

The police source said: Luckily it was found in time, but if a child or a criminal had picked it up there could have been terrible consequences.

This has come as a shock. The officer is inconsolable and seriously regrets her mistake.

The source added: Everyone is fond of her.

She was among the top in her class during training, but her firearms career could be over.

Armed female cops have been griping for years about the bulky design of their gun belts. Male officers do not need to remove theirs to spend a penny but the girls do.

The source said no decision has been made about the bodyguards long-term future.

Her SO1 unit full name Specialist Protection Command is responsible for the personal safety of Prime Minister Gordon Brown and ex-PMs Mr Blair and Margaret Thatcher.

It also guards Cabinet ministers, ambassadors and high-profile individuals who are considered terrorist targets.

Scotland Yard said last night: A police-issue firearm was left unattended in a central London cafe.

Traced

The weapon belongs to a Metropolitan Police authorised firearm officer who was on duty at the time. An investigation has begun.

We have traced the officer concerned and the officer has been removed from operational duties pending the investigation.

The Starbucks bungle is the second security blip faced by Middle East envoy Mr Blair since he left Downing Street.

Last September four asylum seekers got into the UK in the back of a lorry delivering Mr Blairs new Ł100,000 reinforced BMW from Munich.

They were discovered when the doors of the transporter were opened at a police garage in Vauxhall, South London.

Aidonia takes on 'model' role - Deejay vows to be 'positive male influence'

Aidonia vows to make more positive music. - Nathaniel Stewart

Deejay Aidonia has vowed to make a positive impact on society. The deejay says despite his recent run-ins with the law, he is now prepared to put all of that behind him and place more focus on his career.Recently, both Aidonia and Kartel were questioned by members of Operation Kingfish in relation to a picture that was circulating, which appeared to show both deejays posing with high-powered weapons. And just a couple months earlier, Aidonia was also held on gun-related charges after he was accused of being involved in an alleged shooting incident that left one dead. However, the deejay, in a release sent to THE WEEKEND STAR, said he is "determined to be a positive role model, especially to the youths who have little or no positive male influence in their lives, and as such plans to send more positive messages in his songs." When contacted, Aidonia said, "Mi a guh cut back pon di gun-related songs right now and focus more on the ladies. Mi voice three girl song dis week already. Mi have a song a come out shortly called Spanish Fly pon Leftside 'Sand Fly' rhythm and dat song is going to be like the next Ukku." Aidonia also said he had a few cultural tunes that fans could look out for, "but right now wi a push Jail Story, which we will be shooting a video for soon. But Jail Story is about what happened leading up to my arrest and after." No more clashes Also, in keeping with Aidonia's new outlook on life, the deejay has vowed to stay away from all clashes and controversies, and is now willing to work with everybody in the music business. "I don't want any more animosity with any artiste or producer, no more clashing or drop words with no more artistes," he said. While some may think that Aidonia might be down and out because of his recent run-in with the law, Aidonia says he will not allow that to impact his career negatively. "Wi always tek a negative situation an mek it positive. So wi can use what happened to show that being an artiste you are not a superhuman, suh yuh jus do positive things," he said. But the gun tunes, although they might not be his main focus, will always be a part of Aidonia's lyrical topics. He says, "Being an entertainer, is being an artiste and music is art, suh is jus like in the movies, the actors play their role as action figures but they are not necessarily so in reality. I don't focus on one type of song, I am for the people, I give the people what they want." Recently, Aidonia has also broadened his scope as he recorded a soca song titled Pumping, which was a collaborative effort with Peter Ramm. The song is now creating a buzz in the Caribbean and other soca artistes, including Allison Hinds are already lining up to collaborate with the deejay. Aidonia also visited Barbados recently for three days, where he did a few club performances. He is also booked to do a show in Miami on March 21 and then in Trinidad in April. Looking past his troubles and looking towards the future, Aidonia says he sees himself in a better place in the next five years, "being on top of the game, number one artiste, both locally and internationally, and seeing the younger members of my group, JOP a force to reckon with in the music". Aidonia has also taken on a new management team, which is headed by Calis 'Bigga 5' Bowen and Aidonia's brother, Lav.

A resident of Crooked River prepares to remove a piece of tree limb used to block the road while another attempts to collect money from the approaching motorist. Other residents look on. - dwight nelson Tropical Storm Gustav was apparently a blessing in disguise for some residents of Crooked River, Clarendon, as they made big bucks, extorting money from motorists travelling through the community. A community bridge, which acts as the only link between Chapelton and Frankfield, partially broke away from the road during the storm, but residents, using boulders and sand, filled the cut off sections so motorists could pass. This however, came at a price. The residents began collecting up to $200 for their efforts. To ensure that no vehicle rushed across the bridge, a big piece of tree limb was placed in the road. As soon as one motorist paid, the board was removed and he was allowed through. This caused traffic to be backed up on both sides of the bridge. At least 30 vehicles were allowed through the area for the short time THE STAR was there. Extortion The Chapelton police while not having knowledge of the incident, said it amounted to extortion and promised to look into it. Noel Nembhard, the councillor for the Kellits division in which the community falls, dissuaded the residents from collecting money from motorists but as soon as he left, they started again. "We need a bridge to contain a greater capacity of water at this time however it has been air marked to be fixed by the Ministry of Transport and Works," he said, when contacted later. "It's so unfortunate that the bad weather came before work started." One resident told THE STAR that "every time we have flooding the road cut weh from the bridge and a wi have to fix it. The last time we have flooding some people washed away inna dem car at the bridge". The residents also showed THE STAR several huge logs that they had placed between the road and the bridge during the last flooding in order for vehicles to gain access. Another resident told the STAR "we nuh want nuh more bridge like this because its too small and it cannot contain the amount of water flowing through the gully when we have heavy rains".

Zebra free on Tuesday on Tuesday

Incarcerated deejay Zebra is to be released from prison next Tuesday, THE STAR understands.

Major Richard Reese, commissioner of corrections, confirmed yesterday that Zebra, born Garfield Vassell, will be released from the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre in Kingston on Tuesday.

"Thats the earliest release date he has," Reese said.

Zebra, who is known for hits such as Rupert and Redder Than Red, was placed at the St Catherine Adult Correctional Centre in 2001 after he was sentenced to a total of 10 years in prison for rape, assault at common-law, indecent assault and breaching a probation order.

Rape of student

The deejay was charged with the rape of an 18-year-old university student who was assaulted in bushes near Barry, St Catherine, in January 2001.

The assault at common-law charge stemmed from an incident involving his then girlfriend Sherilla 'Zebress' Williams.

The two reportedly had an argument at their Oakland apartment and Williams was allegedly beaten. Zebrawas later charged with indecent assault following an incident which occurred on October 17, 2000. He was accused of fondling a 15-year-old girl, pushed her on to a bed and tried to have sex with her.

Stephen & Aidonia Team Up

Stephen 'di genius' McGregor is staying true to his word, that he plans to drop a new riddim every month and so said, so done.

This time around he has teamed up with J.O.Ps front man Aidonia for a new single called "Bruk It Off" where Aidonia is making a plea to the ladies to see if they are skilled enough to try and dismember his GOD given gift (let's hope he doesn't regret issuing such a challenge to the fairer sex).

The song is laid on Stephen's brand spanking new riddim called "Day Break", which results in a very upbeat tracks that just invigorates your body and makes you want to move.

The riddim has not been officially released, but our inside source tipped us that it will feature some big names and a few newcomers like of Jim Laden a young upcoming artiste from Digicel Rising Star fame.

Don Skilachi to shoot video with Kartel, Blak Ryno
15 May 2008 | by A.K.A., Contributing Writer

It's hard living up to a name like Don Skilachi, but this young*lo** makes it look so easy. This thirty-something year-old Canadian-Jamaica is the impresario of a steely kind of quiet-cool confidence that is a prerequisite for making it in this business.

He recently recorded a single called 'Dem So Bad' featuring Vybz Kartel and Blak Ryno. There are plans to shoot the video later this month.

"Director Wayne South is going to do it, and we're going all out, helicopters, yachts, big pimping, hot cars, but we're keeping it gully as well to get that Jamaican flavour, but we're also doing it real big," he said.

Born Jermaine Scott, this young*lo** grew up in the rough neighbourhood of Whitfield Avenue in the dysfunctional little metropolis of Kingston, Jamaica. He attended the Holy Trinity High school where he began to take an interest in dancehall.

Don Skilachi is at the forefront of a new vanguard of producer-artistes who are redefining dancehall, infusing it with a new rap and R & B sound that enhances its crossover appeal and international accessibility without losing the essence of what hardcore dancehall represents.

We really shouldn't be surprised at anything when it comes to Michael Jackson.

But we have to admit we were shocked when we found out he'd been on a string of dates with Pamela Anderson.

The odd couple seem to have bonded over their love of plastic surgery and have been hooking up in Malibu.

We hear the big-boobed babe is a massive fan of Michael... and it seems the feeling is mutual.

A source said: "It was all arranged by their people in total secrecy, very cloak and dagger.

Michael is such a private person. He gets nervous when he thinks people are following him around, so he chose somewhere neutral for their first date.

"They arrived separately at the Shutters Hotel on Malibu Beach so no one would suspect anything and then had a few drinks in the bar."

The pair requested a hidden area in the corner - for two reasons.

Firstly, it shielded them from any prying eyes. And second, it would have protected them from the dangerous melting effects of the Californian sunshine.

After all, there's a fine line between looking hot and having a runny, bubbling face. Our source went on: "They were very chatty. Pamela was being her usual flirty self and Michael seemed to be responding. They are such a strange couple but they seemed to really hit it off."

So much so Michael plucked up the courage to ask Pammy out on a second date. And she was more than happy to accept.

We're told: "They went for a coffee at Country Mart in Malibu and looked very comfortable with each other.

"They chatted about Michael turning 50, his new album, their kids. And he seemed genuinely interested in Pamela."

Let's hope they move on to a third date - and, who knows, maybe Pammy will get to have a "sleepover". Go for it Mikey!

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (AP) -- Two brothers who ran a funeral home and crematorium admitted Tuesday that they sold corpses to a company that trafficked stolen body parts, a macabre scheme that left families aghast and unclear about the fate of their loved ones.

Louis and Gerald Garzone pleaded guilty to charges including conspiracy, theft, abuse of corpse and welfare fraud.

The gruesome allegations read in court drew gasps, murmurs and tears from about two dozen people who had entrusted the bodies of their loved ones to the Garzones' facilities in Philadelphia.

The brothers allowed at least 244 corpses to be carved up without families' permission and without medical tests, prosecutors said. Skin, bones, tendons and other parts -- some of them diseased -- were then sold around the country for dental implants, knee and hip replacements, and other procedures.

Some bodies were only torsos by the time the hacking was done, said Assistant District Attorney Evangelia Manos.

The mastermind of the scheme, Michael Mastromarino, pleaded guilty Friday to hundreds of charges that could send him to prison for life. He is already serving 18 to 54 years for running the scam in New York.

Mastromarino's company, New Jersey-based Biomedical Tissue Services, took bodies from funeral homes in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Among the corpses plundered was that of "Masterpiece Theatre" host Alistair Cooke.

In Philadelphia, he paid the Garzones and their partner, James McCafferty, more than $245,000 for at least 244 cadavers between February 2004 and October 2005, prosecutors said.

Mastromarino would then send a "cutting" crew, led by former nurse Lee Cruceta, to Philadelphia to dissect the bodies. Cruceta pleaded guilty in January to abusing corpses and other charges; McCafferty pleaded guilty last month to conspiracy and theft charges.

The tissue plundered from a single body often fetched about $4,000, and Mastromarino made millions from the scheme, prosecutors said.

Authorities were able to identify only 49 of the 244 bodies, since the scam entailed falsifying names, ages and causes of death to disguise corpses that were too old or too diseased to be harvested legally. The Garzones burned their records in the crematorium when investigators started asking questions, Manos said.

One of the harvested bodies was that of Lois Elder, 58, of Philadelphia, who died of complications from a stroke in April 2005, said Taya Elder, her daughter.

Elder, 39, said she is glad to be spared a trial. Even though she heard many of the chilling details during the grand jury investigation that led to the indictments, listening to them again in court Tuesday brought her to tears.

"It took me for a loop," Elder said. "It really is shocking."

Her mother was supposed to be cremated. Today, Elder said she can only assume the ashes she has are what was left of mother's body after the cutting crew finished its work.

Louis Garzone also pleaded guilty to insurance fraud.

He claimed in August 2006 that severe depression preventing him from working, Manos said. In reality, he had surrendered his funeral director's license about two months earlier but continued to work at his funeral home, which was then under the auspices of another director, Manos said.

Both Gerald Garzone, 48, of North Wales, and Louis Garzone, 66, of Philadelphia, also pleaded guilty to defrauding the state public welfare department, which reimburses funeral homes for services provided to impoverished families. The Garzones filed for about $77,000 in unentitled reimbursements, prosecutors said.

UR VIEWS????
Dear Dr. Flex,
My boyfriend says he doesnt get any satisfaction from having intercourse with me. He says my vagina is too big. His penis is of average size. When I met him, I didnt think I was that big. What he said is hurting me. Are there any positions we could try or any exercises I could do to help my problem? Although we love each other dearly this could become a major difficulty in the future. He also thinks the problem gets worse when I get too moist during oral sex. I am starting to feel slightly abnormal. I have one child.
K. W., Kingston 20

Dear K.W.,
It is common for women whove had children to develop loose vagina syndrome. Having one baby, your vagina shouldnt be all that slack. Pelvic exercises might well help you, but first of all, I would like you to go and get a vaginal examination done by a gynaecologist who is used to sorting out this particular problem.
The fact that your man thinks the problem isnt helped by you becoming so moist during oral sex is something you should be concerned about. I personally dont think that theres anything wrong with you at all. To me your man is a bit delicate and maybe not very comfortable with a woman who is very turned on by sex. Most men would adore a woman whose juices flowed copiously during oral sex. But some men arent as comfortable with cunnilingus as they make out, and theyre a bit put off by a woman who is sexy, juicy and enthusiastic.
If this is the case with your man, I have to say that youll probably come to the conclusion that hes got the problem - not you.

Yardflex was surprised at reports of fights breaking out during Mavados time on stage, and injuries to some patrons reportedly included a stabbing and broken limb following a stampede of sorts.

Still Mavado did not disappoint and worked at giving fans what they wanted, after questioning them on the same. Did they come to fight or enjoydid they want to hear him, he wondered aloud.

Marketing Manager, Yolan Zanders, who has for around 4 years been the main mover and shaker of VPs Jamaican arm reportedly said she has heard the word, as many people have contacted her for more information on a possible closing.

However she has been unable to give any confirmation, saying that no official statement of that sort has been passed down to her from VPs head offices and she continued to say that she would not be able to comment further.

A few years ago, deejay Kiprich sang about his love life suffering because of cellular phones. The principal of a popular school is in a similar position - only he has lost his lover because of a chat room.

After investing in his relationship both financially and emotionally, John Doerecently found out his girlfriend will be leaving him for a Danish man she met in a chat room. The couple has been together for 12 years and share a child, but he learnt that since 2005 she has been making plans to move to Denmark.

Doe, 47, operates a popular independent day and evening school. He is so hurt by the situation that he felt compelled to share his story.

"I am tormented. I am sick. I love this girl ennuh, and even now that she is doing this, I still love her. I am confused and I am nervous. I have a school to run and sometimes at night I just have to get up and walk. There's nothing I can say to her about not going. She wants a certain life and she seh I can't give it to her," Doe said.

He met his girl when she came to his institution after high school. He explained that she came from a poor background and her mother, who had four other children, struggled to send her to school.

Fell in love

He said, "She didn't pass all her subjects, so she came to my school. For some reason, we fell in love. She got five subjects at my school and she didn't even have to pay for it. Because we were in love an so, and start do wi ting, she came to school free of cost."

He said he paid for her university education and moved her and her mother into his house. He explained, "It seems like when she was in university she went into a chat room and met a guy from Denmark, who said he was looking for a soulmate." The man, he said, is 53 and in good financial standings.

He found out about her secret affair when he saw the man's number and several text messages in her phone. Though admitting what he did next was wrong, he said he hacked into her account and read several messages between them. He said, "What I read suggested that she was planning to go to him and in the emails it said he has a lot of money." He also read correspondence between his girl and her brother, who encouraged her to make use of the opportunity for a 'better life'.

Doe said his girlfriend admitted she was planning to leave and attacked him for invading her personal space. "She decide that she leaving out here and she going to be wit dat white man. She said I'm not a good man and she wants someone who can help her. Suddenly, I am no longer good enough."

Though he tried to convince her to think her decision through, warning her of the possibilities that she could be going to meet a serial killer or rapist, her decision was made.

Now Doe is full of questions; "I just want to know if it is fair for someone to look after you and take care of you and this is what happens?"

His girl is scheduled to leave later this month and he is concerned about how he will move on with his life when she does. She plans to leave their child with her mother. Efforts to speak with the girlfriend proved futile yesterday.

BOLT BELIEVE TO BE ON DRUGS!!!

August 20, 2008
Started By najah49 Comments
BEIJING (Aug. 20) - Arms churning high, face twisted in pain as he sprinted toward the finish line, Usain Bolt kept glancing at the clock.
The win in the Olympic 200 meters was a given, his second gold medal of the Beijing Games assured.

This was now about a world record. About racing against history.
Showing just what he can do when he goes all out start to finish, Bolt forged the greatest race ever run Wednesday night under the hazy lights at the Bird's Nest, heaving his chest toward the finish line - not simply to beat someone for the gold, but to become a part of track's glorious, and sometimes troubled, lore.
He finished in 19.30 seconds to break Michael Johnson's 12-year-old world record, one of the most venerable in the books.
"I blew my mind and I blew the world's mind," Bolt said.
Insane, Usain.
Officially, he won by an astounding 0.66 second over American Shawn Crawford, the defending Olympic champion. Crawford won the silver medal when Churandy Martina of Netherlands Antilles, who had finished 0.52 behind Bolt, was disqualified after a U.S. protest for running out of his lane. "It feels like a charity case," Crawford said.
Either way, it was about four body lengths, the biggest margin in an Olympic 200.
American Walter Dix was awarded the bronze medal when the third man across the line, teammate Wallace Spearmon, also was DQ'd for leaving his lane.

Bolt added the 19.30 to the 9.69 he ran the 100 four nights before when he hot-dogged the final 20 meters to set the world record.
Everyone thought he could've done better in the 100 had he run hard the whole way, but the 200 has always been Bolt's favorite, the one he spent his life on, and this time he saved the showboating for after the race.
"I've been dreaming of this since I was yea high," Bolt said. "So it means a lot more to me actually than the 100 means."
After the unrelenting effort with a slight headwind in his face, Bolt sprawled out on the ground, arms and legs outstretched, basking in the roar of the Bird's Nest crowd and the glow of becoming, quite possibly, the greatest sprinter ever.
Bolt's name now goes above, or at least beside, every great sprinter to ever put on spikes.
He became the first man to win the 100-200 double at the Olympics since Carl Lewis in 1984, and the first man to hold both records simultaneously since Donald Quarrie - the 1970s Jamaican star whom Bolt said he always wanted to pattern his running after.

He gets mentioned in the same breath with Johnson, as well as Jesse Owens and any of the other six men to complete the Olympic 100-200 double. Nobody other than Johnson had ever run a 200 in under 19.6 and nobody had broken 9.7 in the 100 before Beijing.
Bolt has done both, the only man ever to break the world record in both sprints in the same Olympics.
Bolt is simply a different kind of runner - coiled power in his 6-foot-5 frame, supposedly too big for success in the 100, but certainly built to run the 200.
"It's his anatomy," said Renaldo Nehemiah, the former world record-holder in the 110-meter hurdles. "He's just blessed with an uncanny frame, an uncanny quickness, a huge competitive heart. And he is having a good time, which I think our sport sorely needs to see."
Indeed, track and field could use a breath of fresh air after years of bad news, bad characters and failed drug tests that have come close to turning the sport into second-tier Olympic viewing.
There are cynics who believe Bolt might be too good to be true himself. But the Jamaican insists he is clean, that he plays by the rules, that any improvement he's enjoyed over the last few months has come courtesy of rededicating himself to his training and staying off the dance floor he loves so much.
Before the race, track officials said he had been subjected to 11 doping tests since the beginning of 2008, including four since July 27. None so far has come back positive.
The man whose record fell was talking about Bolt's dominance, not his drug tests, when it was over.
"Incredible," Johnson said. "He got an incredible start. Guys of 6-5 should not be able to start like that. It's that long, massive stride. He's eating up so much more track than others. He came in focused, knowing he would likely win the gold and he's got the record."

Bolt's move out of the starting block isn't nearly as important in the 200 as the 100, which makes the longer race more about raw speed. But a good start certainly doesn't hurt. He got one this time, even if it was fifth out of the eight runners. He burst out of the blocks from Lane 5 and overcame the lag about a quarter of the way through.
He averaged 9.65 per 100 meters - faster than his 4-day-old record in the 100.
Bolt won the race on the eve of his 22nd birthday and a version of "Happy Birthday" played over the public-address system as he took off his gold shoes and wrapped the Jamaican flag around his shoulders like a scarf.
He did another hip-swiveling dance, then raised his hands and pointed toward the scoreboard. A little later, he posed near the trackside clock - the traditional picture that all world record-setters take. Bolt now has three of them - this, the 100 from Saturday and the picture he took in New York in May when he broke the 100 record the first time.
"You're back there giving it everything you've got - it's brutal," said Kim Collins, the 2003 world champ who finished seventh. "He's doing it and making it look so simple. Michael Johnson did it, and it didn't look that easy."
It sparked a tremendous celebration in Jamaica, which improved to 3-for-3 in Olympic sprints.
There was more for the island country to be happy about Wednesday night.
Shortly after Bolt finished, Jamaican Melaine Walker won the women's 400-meter hurdles in an Olympic-record 52.64, finishing ahead of American Sheena Tosta.
More than an hour later, in a nearly empty Bird's Nest, the struggling American team - the team with only three gold medals so far - took another blow when Brad Walker, the reigning pole vault world champion, didn't reach the final.
All of that was mere filler on this night, though.
And while Michael Phelps and his record eight swimming golds may be The Story of these Olympics, Bolt and his double world record sprints are a chapter unto themselves.
Bolt's sheer dominance in the most basic tests of speed will not soon be surpassed.

THE COMMENTS OF TWO AMERICANS ABOUT BOLT.

dennisnyc2007 03:07:30 PM Aug 20 2008

BOLT IS NOT ONLY A SHOWOFF...BUT AN ARROGANT P.O.S. WHO'S DISPLAY SHOWS NOTHING BUT TOTAL DISRESPECT FOR HIS FELLOW COMPETITORS.......END OF STORY...DONT EVEN REPLY TO THIS POST.....CAUSE DOING SO ONLY SHOWS YOU'RE JUST AS MUCH A P.O.S.

judgejoe77 02:46:10 PM Aug 20 2008

Why is it that some Americans feel that unless and athlete comes from American,or trains in America,or dopes up, he can't beat us? How small-minded is that attitude? Bolt has good genes, he worked hard, and his attitude is right. No excuses, folks, he is the fastest man alive right now. If he had been born in the U.S., we would be planning a ticker tape parade for him in New York City. We should anyway, talent is talent. and it deserves or acknowledgment. Go Bolt, you are a winner, and we salute you for your accomplishments!

Spragga Benz - File

A parent should never outlive his child, but this is the situation in which deejay Spragga Benz has found himself.

The death of his 17-year-old son, Carlton 'Carlisle' Grant Jr., has been a hard pill to swallow.

Grant was killed on Saturday, August 23, by police under what is believed to be questionable circumstances.

Alleged patrol

The incident occurred on Church Street during an alleged patrol by the police. It was reported that Grant and a friend were riding a bicycle when ordered by the police to stop, which they did. It is also alleged that one of them pulled a gun and fired at the police. The fire was returned and the men ran. The area was searched and Grant was found suffering from several gunshot wounds.

Now Grant's family is left to mourn a talented youth's early death. Spragga was off the island when he heard of his oldest child's death and he returned immediately to take care of his family. When THE STAR spoke to a tired and sad-sounding Spragga, he said that upon hearing the news of Grant's death, he said a silent prayer for his son.

'Close knit'

Describing his family as a close-knit one, Spragga was very close to his son.

"A mi eldest son, a mi eldest child. There was a point where is just me and him. Him modda have him cause him exam just finish. Him live wid me all him life and did just deh wid him modda a hold a vibes," Spragga said.

Grant had just finished fifth form at Camperdown High School and had completed seven subjects at the CXC level.

Before his death, Grant was an aspiring actor, who had been in the movie Shottas, and was set to look at other scripts. According to Spragga, he encouraged his son's desire to be an actor but made sure that he finished school so that he would have something to "lean on" in hard times.

"Mi have too much memories. Every day was a joy. He was basically a yute whe him just deh bout wid di younger ones. His best friends are between 12-13, so yuh know seh him playful ... Mi nuh waan paint di picha and act like him is a saint. Him is nuh saint. He is a yute weh when mi was his age, mi do di same things ... Him have it harder cause him have a fadda weh everyone know, so him face being my son - the good, di bad and di indifferent. People who don't like me, don't like him; who like mi, like him," Spragga said.

Memories of his son

After Grant's death, Spragga received calls from friends who shared memories of his son, describing him as a "calm yute" who treated everyone as an equal. That included his younger brothers and sisters who are still grappling with what happened to their carefree brother.

Spragga explained: "We try to be as strong as possible. Di eldest sister still shook up, still cry every day. Di younger ones, are like five, six, still a ask bout it. Dem just a get a understanding and dem waan write a song bout him."

While most would cling to their remaining children, Spragga still believes in making his children tread their own path, giving them space to grow up. While he may be angry about the nature of Grant's death, for Spragga, there are no feelings of revenge or retribution in his heart. Yet, he still has to deal day to day with disparaging comments made by the police.

"More time police a seh some stupid things and den a go laugh ... Yuh haffi wonda where di professionalism in di force deh ... What is police? A police force, or just a force ...?

Nuh condolences and sympathy

"Don't come offer mi nuh condolences and sympathy because when dem a come to me and tell mi bout me shoulda look afta mi son, yuh don't know ... Mi grow my son personally, and him was more educated than most on di force. Mi talk to him teachers and principals personally to see if he was on top of his performance and progress, behavior, his involvement, everything, mi nuh mek my children go a school an do wha dem feel like. Probably if I was a parent like dat it would be a different ting," Spragga said.

According to Spragga, his fans and the entertainment community are upset about what happened and has shown him their support.

"Him is a yute weh know people. People from a wide cross section, dem a wonda wha a go on but a offa mi strength. Dem waan change di system not for Carlisle but for everyone to raise di awareness of wha di yute dem a face, try mek awareness for all di police dem so dem don't just judge di yute dem just like dat," he said.

Singer Marcia Griffiths, who has recently experienced something similar, has been one of the entertainers who have stepped forward in support of Spragga. The two plan to form a lobby group to speak against the brutish behaviour of the police force.

Spragga is currently taking the legal route, hiring lawyers and investigators. According to Spragga he is doing his best in believing in the system as he accepts that nothing can bring back his son but he wants the truth to come out.

"Mi have faith in di system still for all of wi sake, every Jamaican, because nuff people dis happen to but not everyone can really go through to find out wha really happen and target out to di law. 'Cause a lot of tings get box up and painted and yuh neva find out di real reason. Now wi waan see the transparency of di system towards di Jamaican people, towards yutes, ghetto people who probably don't have a voice," he explained.

"Mi a tink bout being an independent citizen weh mi nuh haffi talk to government cause dem a move like dem nuh business wid people.... Mi a explore it caw dat mi waan be, cause nobaddy accountable to me, or nobody nah deh pon mi side inna di system a just me and mi frens who care, or people who feel di same sentiment.a wi haffi go an investigate to find out di truth a weh happen.

Spragga says he has also been tormented by the knowledge that police brag about killing his son. "Dem nah show nuh interest but mi nah go gainst dem cause mi kno yuh have good people inna di force but mi just nuh like di attitude, where man a come beat di chest like him a Bolt, that's a disrespect to di families who are distraught dem need to apologise fi dat too." Spragga said

As for his career he is trying to not let his personal affairs interfere with his artistic side, acknowledging that his lyrics will be under a microscope for any references made to Carlilse's death.

A memorial service for Carlisle was held last night on Harbour Street. However the funeral service will be delayed until after an autopsy is done on the body. The autopsy on Grant's body is currently scheduled for October, 2.

A 70-year-old man is now before the courts for allegedly having sex with a 12-year-old girl.

The Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) said the accused man who is partially deaf and who operates a bar was arrested and charged two weeks ago after the complainant's parent made a report to the police.

CISOCA reported that in February earlier this year, the complainant was left alone at home during which time the accused man convinced her to go home with him where he allegedly had sex with her.

Further reports are that the girl's parent filed a missing person's report after their daughter had not returned home after two days.

After returning home, the girl admitted to her parents that she had gone to the man's house, after which the police were called in and the man picked up after subsequent investigations.

Meanwhile, the man appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court last week and denied the allegations against him.

He was offered $50,000 bail and is booked to return to court on September 5.

Mother, son on murder charge

Eighteen-year-old Kevin Stewart and his 43-year-old mother, Angela Campbell, both accused of murder, are to reappear before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court next week after a September 4 mention date was set in the case against them.

Allegations read in court are that on August 22, Stewart and the deceased man had an argument during which time Stewart used a knife to fatally attack him. The court was told that Campbell also used a machete to aid in the tragic attack against the deceased.

Different explanation

The defence lawyer for both Stewart and Campbell offered a different explanation in making his bail application however. The attorney told the court that the deceased had attacked Stewart with a garden fork on the day of the incident, before influencing a mob to join in on the attack.

He continued that Stewart and Campbell tried to elude the mob by running into a house and hiding under a bed but the mob pursued, drew them from under the bed and proceeded to inflict blows upon them.

It was here, the attorney continued, that Stewart used a machete he had to defend himself against the mob, resulting in the death of the deceased man. As it relates to Campbell, the attorney said she was held and charged by police after she went to report the incident at the police station.

Resident Magistrate Glen Brown denied the bail applications, ordering that they return to court on September 4.

A fingerprint order was also made.

Despite winning a record eight gold medals and getting all the attention of American television broadcasters, swimming super star Michael Phelps was not the best individual performer at the Beijing Olympics, according to the Denver Post newspaper.

Instead, Jamaican sprint phenomenon Usain Bolt was picked by the newspaper for his three world record gold medal performances in the 100, 200 metres and 4x100-metre relay.

"Usain Bolt, sprinter, Jamaica, best individual performance. Sorry, Michael Phelps," the paper said.

"With swimmers breaking 74 world records in 2008 including 24 at these Olympics we no longer are impressed with world swim records.

"But when Bolt breaks track's two sprint marks for the first sprint double in 24 years, then runs a leg on the sprint relay that breaks a third record, that grabs our attention," the Denver Post stated.

Bolt, 22, joined a short list of track and field greats who have successfully completed an Olympic double when he became the first man in Olympic history to set world records in both events at any Games.

He has been described as the greatest Olympic sprinter of all-time and even labelled, Superman II by the great American Michael Johnson.

Despite being in the spotlight, the Jamaican was quick to dismiss any comparison between himself and Phelps.

"You can say that. I can't say that. I'm just enjoying myself," Bolt said shortly after running 19.30 seconds to win the men's 200 metres, breaking Michael Johnson's 12-year-old Atlanta Olympic mark.

findImg.php?pic_size=200&table_name=news_img_tab&table_field=img_id&img_id=1225 In a recent publication of the Jamaica Star deejay Sheldon Lawrence more popularly known as 'Aidonia' has vowed to make a positive impact on society. The deejay says despite his recent run-ins with the authorities, he is now prepared to put all of that behind him and place more focus on his career.

Just Recently, both Aidonia and Kartel were questioned by members of Operation Kingfish in relation to a picture that was circulating, which appeared to show both deejays posing with high-powered weapons. And just a couple months earlier, Aidonia was also held on gun-related charges after he was accused of being involved in an alleged shooting incident that left one dead.

However, the deejay, in a release, said he is "determined to be a positive role model, especially to the youths who have little or no positive male influence in their lives, and as such plans to send more positive messages in his songs." When contacted, Aidonia said,

"Mi a guh cut back pon di gun-related songs right now and focus more on the ladies. But Jail Story is about what happened leading up to my arrest and after."

Also, in keeping with Aidonia's new outlook on life, the deejay has vowed to stay away from all clashes and controversies, and is now willing to work with everybody in the music business.

I don't focus on one type of song, I am for the people, I give the people what they want."

Recently, Aidonia has also broadened his scope as he recorded a soca song titled Pumping, which was a collaborative effort with Peter Ramm.

The POLICE IN Harbour View say that they are aware that men in the area have been offering to take people beyond the break-off point at the community bridge for a fee, following damage caused by Tropical Storm Gustav last week.

However, they have no real problem with the act. Speaking with The Star yesterday, the police noted that the 'transporting' was a mutual agreement between the men and the 'customers' who willingly pay and as such, they had no issue with it nor have they received any complaints.

Ronald Jackson, director general at the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) strongly advised against the practice, which he termed as 'risky'.

When The Star's news team pulled up to the now collapsed bridge, several men were seen offering their backs and hands to people who needed to get beyond the break-off point.

'Tall-man', one of the many 'guides', said fees for the service range from $100 to $300. "Yuh have two kind of travellers mi don, yuh have casual and then yuh have express," 'Tall-man' explained. "Casual jus waan yuh bring cross dem bag fi dem. De express one dem nuh waan get wet, so yuh bring dem pon yuh back, jockey style but dem pay a special fee fi dat service."

The 'entrepreneur' said that casual travellers might pay between $100 and $300 per bag while express travellers may be required to pay $500 and upward for the jockey service. In addition to that they also pay the usual baggage charges. He continued that he heads a three-man team that usually comes together to tackle big tasks involving five bags or more.

The founder of the company that makes Enzyte, Steve Warshak, was sentenced to 25 years in prison after he was convicted in February on 93 counts of conspiracy, fraud and money laundering. His company has to return $500 million. Damn! Never underestimate the power of gullibility/feelings-of-inadequacy!

This is a case about greed, The judge remarked. Steven Warshak preyed on perceived sexual inadequacies of customers.

A TWO-HEADED baby boy has died at home after he was taken from hospital because his parents were too poor to pay for his care, reports claimed.

Yesterday, he was under police guard after a 150,000-strong mob arrived to gawk at him in hospital.

The boy born in Bangladesh had been moved to a second hospital after the huge crowd gathered for a glimpse.

It was feared some people might have forced their way into the hospital and crushed the mother and child.

Previously, babies born with physical abnormalities in Bangladesh and India have been hailed as living gods.

Paediatrician KS Alam reportedly said: "We wanted to refer him (Kiron) to a hospital in Dhaka but the family was so poor that they could not afford to take him there, so they took him home where he died."

Kiron was born in a caesarean operation on Monday, weighing 5.5kg, in Keshobpur, 100 miles from the capital, Dhaka.

Gynaecologist Mohamad Abdul Bari, yesterday said: "He has one stomach and he is eating normally with his two mouths.

"He has one genital organ and a full set of limbs."

Dr Bari said the baby developed from one embryo 'but there was a developmental anomaly'.

He said the clinic was unable to say if the baby had one or two sets of vital organs.

It's a washing moo-chine

THIS silly cow had to be freed by the RSPCA after getting her head stuck in a washing machine drum.

The lucky beast escaped injury after her ordeal but the animal charity warned today that fly tipping can cause serious harm to animals.

Curious ... stuck cow

Curious ... stuck cow

The RSPCA was called to rescue the heifer from a field at Higher Fraddon, St Columb, Cornwall.

It is one of the more unusual things we had had to rescue an animal from, said RSPCA spokeswoman Jo Barr today.

Young cows are quite curious, and she probably thought there was some food inside the drum, she added.

A member of the public spotted the frustrated animal trying to free herself from the metal drum.

RSPCA inspector David Hobbs was sent to rescue the heifer and she returned to her herd unharmed.

The cow will surely not make that moo-stake again!

A BOY aged six has died after his dad accidentally ran him over in a JCB.

Little Bobby Eastwood was hit by the mechanical digger while playing at his familys farm.

His desperate dad Bob, who is in his 20s, raced to help but the lad later died in hospital from his injuries.

The family, who run a civil engineering firm, were last night too upset to speak about the tragedy.

Phil Filmer, a neighbour in High Halstow, near Rochester, Kent, said: Its left the whole community absolutely devastated. They are a very tight-knit family and the parents of the little boy live in the same smallholding as the grandparents. I spoke to the grandad about it and obviously he was very upset.

Phil added: I dont know exactly what happened, I just know it involved a digger. Its all so tragic.

Another neighbour said: Everyone knows everyone else around here and were all devastated by Bobbys death. He was a lovely little lad.

I dont know how Bob will get over what happened. It must be terrible for him and the entire family.

The Eastwood family business, called Bepcon, is run by Bobbys grandparents Ben and Lynn.

Police confirmed they were not treating the tragedy as suspicious.

Jps Needs Money?

It was reported in a recent business news report on CVM Television that the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) would apply a three per cent increase to this month's electricity bill.

The light and power company claims it has to purchase oil one month in advance for the coming month and that at the time when oil prices were high, they had already bought oil to supply for the month of July so we would not see a decrease now (August), with the declining prices of oil on the international scene.

Understanding

Maybe I am not understanding correctly, but if oil for August was purchased in July and July's oil was purchased in June and we did not have an increase in July's light bills (when oil prices were high), why are we having an increase of three per cent for the month of August?

Is it that it is trying to make us pay in advance for the possible decrease in light
bills that it says might take effect in September based on the decrease in oil
prices for this month?

Oil prices

When oil prices were decreasing in the previous months, did it make any adjustment to decrease the light bill during that period?

Why is it that every time something happens that affects the light and power company we, the consumers, have to be digging deeper into our pockets?

I am, etc.,

Jamaica Gleaner
It has been a slow and painful recovery from the effects of Tropical Storm Gustav for persons in the parish of Portland, which first felt the brunt of the weather system which hit the island on Thursday.

Up to late yesterday, Portland and sections of St Mary remained without electricity, while many householders who had lost their roofs were trying to put their lives back together.

Following a tour with Prime Minister Bruce Golding of storm-affected communities yesterday, Daryl Vaz, minister without portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister, and member of parliament for West Portland, told The Sunday Gleaner that hundreds of residents in the communities of Cascade, Regale and surrounding areas remained marooned.

"They were completely cut off both at the St Andrew end and at the Buff Bay Valley end," the state minister reported.

Several other roads remained broken in the parish, while some residents also remained in shelters in eastern Portland in communities such as Manchioneal, which was severely struck by Gustav.

The banana sector in St Thomas, St Mary and Portland suffered significant damage, according to Agriculture Minister Christopher Tufton. He noted that while the domestic market would not be readily affected, the export would be devastated.

"(For) banana that was on the rebound [following Hurricane Dean] ... the wind damage, based on what I saw in St Thomas, would be about 95 per cent," Tufton said. St Mary and Portland suffered 70 per cent each, he disclosed.

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management reported that the official death toll following Gustav was seven. Four persons who were swept away in a vehicle in Bull Bay, St Andrew, remained missing up to late yesterday evening, although the vehicle in which they were travelling had been found.

About 140 roads had been cleared yesterday by the National Works Agency, including the Gordon Town to Papine main road, which was inundated by a mudslide cutting off access for several residents to the capital. The Bog Walk Gorge, however, remained closed to vehicular traffic.

'Not one more block must be laid'

August 31, 2008

GOVERNMENT vowed yesterday that no further building would be allowed near the Hope River in St Andrew, in the wake of the destruction and loss of life when angry flood waters from the river swallowed several houses in Eastern St Andrew during the passage of Tropical Storm Gustav.

The area was declared a "no build zone" several years ago, but grew into a large informal settlement as a number of people continued building large concrete structures there.

20080830T060000-0500_139632_OBS__NOT_ONE_MORE_BLOCK_MUST_BE_LAID___1.jpg

"We are not allowing one more block to be laid along the Hope River; we are going to have to deal with this situation and take firm action to prevent any further construction along the Hope River," Prime Minister Bruce Golding told reporters at a press briefing at Jamaica House in Kingston yesterday afternoon.

"We are trying to determine how many lives have been lost; in a number of instances they told me that the persons vacated before the houses went down. In one case, the owner of a house told me that he was able to escape but there was somebody on the upper floor who he said perished when the house collapsed," Golding said.

The number of deaths from the storm has been estimated at 11.

The communities of Tavern and Kintyre have over the years been hard hit during torrential rains when the Hope River vengefully reclaimed land taken over by informal housing. The flood waters have been known to obliterate homes and partially *u*k others under.

Golding said yesterday that the blame was to be put at the feet of home owners and some politicians.

"The truth is some of us are too careless and in the case of us politicians, some of us are irresponsible," the prime minister said.

He said that despite the fact that the area had been declared a "no build zone" years ago, members of the political directorate had turned a blind eye to the actions of their constituents who continued to build in unsafe areas. Golding said instructions had been issued to the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation to ensure that the building restrictions were not violated and said efforts are now being made to identify areas where houses could be built.

In the meantime, the prime minister said a preliminary estimate of the number of houses damaged has been placed at 150, with a significant number of them in the Spring Bed area of Portland. He said a preliminary damage assessment was being done to determine the total loss, the results of which should be available by Monday.

"The impact was concentrated and severe. We have reports to suggest that with the exception of Portland and St Thomas wind damage was not severe, but there has been flooding, mudslides, land slippage and a great deal of damage to sections of St Thomas, Portland, Eastern and East Rural St Andrew," Golding said.

In addition, Golding said his administration would be cautious in dealing with proposed legislation for forced evacuation when a flood threatens.

"It is something we are examining but it is something about which I express caution," Golding said yesterday.

The prime minister said persons were in most cases reluctant to evacuate until it was urgent not because they have been careless, but because of concerns about the safety of contents of their dwellings, among other issues.

He said there were a number of factors which would make such a move difficult, as, if the government made evacuation mandatory it would also have to consider whether it would be able to assume responsibility for loss sustained either to the dwellings or the contents.
