A growing trend of underage boys being paid by older women to perform oral sex has been occurring in sections of the Corporate Area and St. Catherine.

Checks by THE STAR revealed that boys under 16 years old in at least three inner-city communities, in east Kingston and St. Catherine, are being solicited by older women seeking oral services.

Police attached to these areas say they have heard of this but nevertheless there are no reported cases. They say however that if reported, these women can be charged with indecent assault and could face up to five years in prison if convicted.

Detective Corporal Jeffery Wilkins of the Area Four police said, "...There's very little we can do because we are not receiving any formal reports..We have heard about it, but it remains just a rumour because we have no cases."

Similarly, Deputy Superintendent Herfa Beckford, head of the The Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse ( CISOCA), also said that while she has heard of this, they do not have reported cases.

However DSP Beckford said that she is aware of an incident which occurred some time ago when an underage boy was paid to perform oral sex with an older woman but subsequent investigations revealed that she was psychologically ill.

Youngsters happy

According to CISOCA, these exchanges are mostly likely not being reported because the youngsters are happy with the deals. The police, they say, would have no reports of it unless a parent, guardian or some concerned individual made a report.

Despite the lack of formal reports, police officers who perform guard duties at the Family Court in Kingston, told THE STAR that a number of parents have been turning up with these cases.

"Jus come dung ya more time and jus watch and listen...Most a di yute dem who we hear seh a do it a usually some bad pickney who dem parents cyaa control dem," one officer who wished to remain anonymous said before adding "Di likkle yute dem look like any big man, a mussi dat di woman dem like fi si."

Upon visiting these communities, the allegations were easily confirmed. Residents of Tredegar Park in St. Catherine joked about the situation and claimed they were aware of at least three youngsters who were involved in the acts.

"De yute dem a prostitute out demself, yu nuh see it. Might as well dem go a New Kingston go long out dem tongue," Sherine, a resident said while others laughed. .,

chino.jpg"Red Bull and Guinness inna mi system" is the punch line from a song that has been popular in the Dancehall for over two years. The track bares the familiar voice of Delly Ranks, a longstanding Dancehall personality; however, not many persons know who the younger voice on the track represents.

Chino is the name of a current rising sensation, and yes, his is the other voice. His last name is McGregor, a name which brings Reggae royalty to mind. Son to Freddie McGregor, he is a great talent in his own right.

Musically inclined from age nine, Chino was a member of the Vaz Preparatory School choir and ever since his dream to have a career in music began. He has performed on countless occasions since childhood and to date one of his most memorable performances was at age twelve at Jamaica House in front of Prime Minister PJ Patterson. While a student at Wolmer's High School for Boys', multi-talented Chino also gained experience as a selector for the sound system Omega Disco. The multi-talented Chino does not want to be categorized but rather sees himself as a musical artiste who also plays instruments such as guitar, drums, piano and bass. Furthermore he can sing, rap and deejay, he writes, co-writes and has produced tracks for artistes such as Daville, TOK, Wayne Marshall, Elephant Man, Kiprich, Delly Ranks and his father, Freddie McGregor.

He has had the opportunity to learn all about music from a tender age, at his dads Big Ship studio. "I have observed and learnt from the greats. Dennis Brown, Marcia Griffith, Judy Mowatt and Gregory Isaac, as well as Dancehall icons such as Bounty Killa and Beenie Man to name a few," he revealed. Chino confirmed that these interactions resulted in an in depth knowledge of recording and production techniques.

chino_album.jpgChinos' career began as a rapper when he was asked by fellow artiste Bryan, Papa San's brother, to contribute a rap verse to the song "Joy." Important songs that furthered his career were two collaborations with Kiprich, "Leggo Di Bwoy" and "Gimmi Di Gyal." "Leggo Di Bwoy" went to number one on the Jamaican charts, and received heavy video rotation and airplay locally as well as internationally.

After graduating from High School, Chino gained experience in the USA where he worked with Slip N Slide Records, home to US artistes such as Trina and Trick Daddy. Since coming back to his roots in Jamaica, Chino has performed in and toured major cities such as New York, Miami, Alabama, Mississippi, Europe, Africa, Japan, Bermuda, U.S Virgin Islands as well as in the Caribbean.

A major mile stone in his career was collaboration with his father on the track, "There's a Reward for Me" on the Grammy-nominated album "Anything for you." His career has evolved even further since then with many of his songs making waves in the industry lately. "Girls Dem Straight," is one and it is a favorite especially amongst the females. Both song and video receive heavy rotation on the radio and television. Other current hits are, "Buss It Pon Dem," "Inna Di Club" and of course, "Redbull And Guinness."

Chino just released his 16 track debut album titled "Unstoppable." The album was dropped first in Japan and will be released in the United States in March 2008. Songs on the album include the hot singles, "Change," "I know" - featuring Steven McGregor, "Ting dem Tall" and "Rave All Night

AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- A Polk County sheriff's deputy was arrested on suspicion of selling OxyContin tablets because of financial difficulties, WKMG-TV reported.
Shawn Thomas Lucas, 30, was charged with armed drug trafficking after he allegedly sold the pills to undercover detectives, who found a fully loaded .45-caliber handgun in his vehicle, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said detectives had received information that Lucas was selling OxyContin and arranged to meet him in the parking lot of Save-A-Lot shopping center, located at Havendale Boulevard and 42nd Street in Auburndale.

Lucas, who was off-duty at the time, agreed to sell the undercover detective six whole pills and nine half pills, a total of 4.4 grams, with an approximate street value of $200, deputies said.
Lucas was arrested without incident and consented to a search of his 1999 Ford pickup, where detectives recovered his personal weapon, according to the sheriff's office.
Lucas told detectives he and his family were having financial difficulties, and that his deceased father had been prescribed the OxyContin, the sheriff's office said. Detectives said they recovered approximately six quarter-piece pills, or 80 mg, at Lucas' residence.
Lucas resigned from the Polk County Sheriff's Office upon his arrest.
Lucas, who had been assigned to the South County Jail, was hired on March 6, 2006, and had no disciplinary actions during his employment.
Lucas worked for the Florida Department of Corrections, prior to being hired by the sheriff's office.

YULEE, FL -- A 1-year-old baby was killed after being run over by a car in a driveway Sunday evening.

The Florida Highway Patrol tells us the driver, 19-year-old Naim Nafees Dickerson, was backing down the driveway and didn't see 1-year-old Nylah Sakira Dickerson, who was by the front right side of the car.

Nylah's grandfather came out of the house, saw the baby, and yelled at Naim to stop the car.

The grandfather picked up Nylah, told his wife to call 911, and started driving towards the hospital.

The 911 operator told the Dickersons to head instead to Rescue 30 Headquarters, where the ambulance was ready to take the baby to Shands.

The baby was pronounced dead at the hospital.

No word yet on any charges, or the relationship between the infant and the driver.

Samsung promised it was coming in March, and here she blows. The Spinpoint M6 is the first standard-height 500GB 2.5-incher available, at a lean 9.5mm, meaning you can cram it into most existing laptops unlike the 2.5-inch 500 giggers from Fujitsu and Hitachi. Samsung's using some Perpendicular Magnetic Recording tech to cram everything in, stuffing three 167GB platters into the 5400rpm drive. The M6 goes for $299 and is shipping now. If DVD burning is more your pace, Samsung also just announced an "industry fastest" 22X DVD burner, the SH-S223. The SATA drive can stamp a 4.7GB disc in 12 minutes, and does dual-layer discs at a respectable 16X. No word on price yet for that one.

British internet giant wants Bolt?

September 3, 2008
Started By STUWY773 Comments

Ever since Usain Bolt's historic performance at the recently concluded Beijing Olympics, rumours of endorsements and a potential move to other sports by the 22-year-old superstar athlete have flooded the Internet.

The latest rumour to be added to the lengthening list is that British telecommunication giant Virgin Media will be naming one of their many Internet packages after the Jamaican sprinter. It is said that the package 'Boltband', will provide subscribers with an unprecedented 50mb Internet service.

One of the many online articles about the expected 'endorsement' was found on British website www. Digitalspy.co.uk.

The article entitled VM sign up 'Lightning Bolt' read: "The world's fastest man, triple gold medal-winning Jamaican Olympic sensation Usain Bolt, is starting to reap the commercial benefits of his Beijing triumph, with an approach from UK cable company Virgin Media to be the face of its superfast broadband service. Virgin Media, which is set to launch a 50mb broadband product it claims will be more than twice as fast as rivals, is considering calling the product 'Boltband".

'Approach' made
The article even continued that Ashley Stockwell, Virgin Media's head of marketing operation, said the company had 'approached' Bolt to endorse the new service. Stockwell was quoted as saying: "Our new 50mb service will deliver even faster lightning broadband speeds, which is why we feel that Usain will be the perfect ambassador for our campaign."

Attempts by The Star to contact Stockwell at Virgin Media were unsuccessful. However, Norman Peart, Bolt's manager, said they have never been contacted by the company. "I have been hearing about it but so far no one has contacted me or his (Bolt) agent," Peart said. "It's not that we would not be interested in it, but to date, no one has approached us."

One sceptical reader commented on the online article referring to it as 'gorilla marketing'. The reader, under the username 'Broonale', said the company may have only said they approached the athlete to reap the benefit of "publicity now while he is hot"

Just last week, this newspaper reported similar rumours that were circulating online that National Football League (NFL) team the Miami Dolphins were trying to lure Bolt to their line-up. The team however denied the claims.

Google Creating Web Browser

Google is extending its tentacles into everything, including the world of web browsers. Google is debuting Chrome, its challenger to Internet Explorer and Firefox.

The stated goal of the browser (presented by google in web comic form) is to incorporate new web uses like sharing videos, chatting, and playing web-based games. They also promise greater stability and more speed, but perhaps the biggest innovation is Chrome's multi-thread approach to browsing. Basically, any Javascript application will run separately from the rest of the pages you're browsing, so if something crashes in one tab, the entire browser will keep working. Cool, and much needed.

Here's how Google describes the browser on their blog:

On the surface, we designed a browser window that is streamlined and simple. To most people, it isn't the browser that matters. It's only a tool to run the important stuff -- the pages, sites and applications that make up the web. Like the classic Google homepage, Google Chrome is clean and fast. It gets out of your way and gets you where you want to go.

Google says they've used their massive database of pages to pre-test the thing for stability and compatibility with existing web pages. It's open-source too, so users will tweak it as it grows.

Apparently, the browser was available for download briefly today, but the page was taken down by google. No word yet on when it will be available again.

People who have had more than five oral-sex partners in their lifetime are 250% more likely to have throat cancer than those who do not have oral sex, a new study suggests.

The researchers believe this is because oral sex may transmit human papillomavirus (HPV), the virus implicated in the majority of cervical cancers.

The new findings should encourage people to consistently use condoms during oral sex as this could protect against HPV, the team says. Other experts say that the results provide more reason for men to receive the new HPV vaccine.

Maura Gillison at Johns Hopkins Blo****erg School of Public Health in Baltimore, Maryland, US, and colleagues collected *lo** and saliva samples from the throats of 100 patients diagnosed with cancers of the tonsils or back of the throat. The scientists also took samples from 200 healthy people for comparison.

By c****ining the *lo** and saliva samples with antibody molecules, Gillison's team could tell whether a person had ever had an HPV infection.
Cancer traps

All of the study participants provided information about their sexual history, including the number of people with whom they had engaged in oral sex.

After controlling for other risk factors for throat cancer, such as drinking and smoking, the analysis revealed that people who had prior infection with HPV were 32 times as likely to have this cancer as those with no evidence of ever having the virus. And those who tested positive for a particularly aggressive strain of the virus, called HPV-16, were 58 times more likely to have throat cancer.

By comparison, either smoking or drinking increases the risk of such cancer by about threefold.

The throat cancers analysed in the new study mostly started in the "crypts" of the throat the grooves at the base of the tonsils. This might be because the tonsil grooves trap infectious particles, suggests Mark Stoler of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, US, who was not involved in the study.
High risk levels

The study also revealed a link between oral sex and throat cancer caused by HPV. People who had one to five oral-sex partners in their lifetime had approximately a doubled risk of throat cancer compared with those who never engaged in this activity - and those with more than five oral-sex partners had a 250% increased risk.

There was an even stronger link between oral sex and throat cancers clearly caused by HPV-16 (those tumours that tested positive for the strain). People with more than five oral sex partners had a 750% increased risk of these HPV-16-caused cancers.

"This study is important because it is putting all of the pieces together," says Gillison. "We need to add oral HPV infection to the list of risks for oral cancer," she adds.
Virus vaccine

A vaccine against several of the most aggressive strains of HPV linked to cervical cancer received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration in 2006. However the plan to vaccinate adolescent girls with this vaccine developed by Merck, called Gardasil, has received some criticism.

There have been no studies investigating whether the vaccine can also protect against throat cancer, but the new evidence linking HPV to throat cancer could lead to broader vaccination with Gardasil. "We will see a push for vaccination in men," says Stoler, who has been involved in the development of the vaccine.

Tonsil and throat cancers affect about two in every 100,000 adults in the US. The new results could promote the development of spit tests for HPV infection to help identify people at high risk for these cancers, researchers say.

Inner-city residents worried
Fear new anti-crime measures will trample on civil liberties
BY KIMMO MATTHEWS Sunday Observer staff reporter editorial@jamaicaobserver.com
Sunday, September 07, 2008

RESIDENTS from several communities across the Corporate Area, particularly those in volatile areas, are worried that the Government's latest anti-crime measures will trample on their civil liberties.

The new measures, which include among other things, additional powers for police to deal with criminals, an extension in detention periods for suspects involved in major crimes and the Introduction of more stringent conditions for bail, could come into effect before the end of the month. In fact, two weeks ago Prime Minister Bruce Golding announced that he was hoping that recently tabled legislation to tackle the crime problem would be enacted by mid-September.

Residents of Davis Mountain in St Thomas are in a s****re mood following the shooting deaths of 76-year-old Kelita Lee and Ann Marie McIndoe, 37, by gunmen in the area last week Thursday. (Photo: Naphtali Junior)

But an informal poll conducted by the Sunday Observer among scores of residents in Arnett Gardens, Maxfield Park, Cassia Park, Payne Avenue, Denham Town, Tivoli Gardens and Riverton City found that most residents were fearful that the police would abuse these additional powers. They also wanted government to clarify a number of points in the proposed plan.

"We are bracing ourselves. The latest announcement has left many of us asking a lot of questions," Olzia Howard, a resident from the Arnett Gardens community told the Sunday Observer last Thursday. Six other persons from the community shared her views.

"So many questions, such as how will this new move work out? Will it address the crime problem the country is facing, or will it leave many poor, unemployed and innocent young men and women feeling the negative effects of the law?" Howard and a group of her friends demanded to know.

"After hearing some of the details of the proposal I am a bit sceptical. When I first heard about the crime initiatives I said, yes. But on a closer look on some of the finer details I am a bit concerned," said Caseta Angus, who is also from the St Andrew South community.

"There are areas of the initiative that need to be addressed. Parts of the plan such as the length of time persons will be detained is one of the issues we inner-city residents are concerned about," Sandra Case from the Maxfield Park community told the Sunday Observer.

Earlier this year the prime minister said that as part of the proposal, the period for which a person can be detained on reasonable suspicion, and in the interest of public safety and public order and for the purpose of preventing or detecting crime, before being taken before a resident magistrate would be extended from 24 to 72 hours.

Golding had also said that the detention would have to be authorised by a police officer at the rank of assistant commissioner, and would only be done within an area that is the subject of a cordon or curfew order, or if a person suspected of being involved in criminal activity is in that particular area.

Golding also explained that the Bail Act would be amended to ensure those charged with certain crimes are denied bail for a 60-day period. "A person charged with a serious crime shall not, for a period of 60 days, be granted bail if that person is charged for murder, treason, serious firearm offences, arson of a dwelling house or extortion," Golding had said in earlier weeks.

But Carla Malcolm, a resident from Maxfield Avenue, told the Sunday Observer last week that there is no way she could support the government's crime initiative as she feels it will target only those persons living in poor, violent communities.

"I do not support the move," Malcolm said. "The Government has argued that people may have to suffer a bit in terms of giving up some of their rights for the plan to be successful, but I feel that with where our justice system is at right now, it will be people mostly in the inner- city communities who will be feeling the negative side effects of the plan," Malcolm said.

Residents in the Cassia Park community also expressed mixed views on the crime plan.

"Boss, the crime get out of hand. We want the people to live good, but if it requires that I have to face a little manhandling for this to happen, let it happen," said one taxi driver who identified himself only as Sam.

"Some persons have been talking about the news and we believe that while a plan is seriously needed to stem crime, issues such as how the police will deal with people will have to be addressed," said Dale Morrison, another man from the area.

Golding, in outlining the proposals for the crime-fighting measures, had declared that the Government would be taking a zero-tolerance approach to addressing the crime problem, but has been criticised by groups such as the Council for Human Rights.

Since the start of the year, police statistics show that close to 1,000 murders have been committed across the island.
"We are waiting with some amount of tension; it is a serious situation. So many issues.crime needs to go down, but is this the approach?" asked Margaret Samuels, from Delacree Lane in Payne Avenue.

George Baugh, who lives in Denham Town, feels that more needs to be done. "Crime has escalated to an alarming level but, my brother, we believe that if you are going to approach the thing you have to look at other issues such as unemployment and corruption in the police force. Until these things are addressed, I believe that it is poor people, the innocent ones who will feel the side effects of the plan."

A number of other young men supported Baugh, whom they regard as an elder in the community.

"The police dem already do not know how to deal with people and you are going to give them more power? That don't spell sense," said one young man from the Denham Town community, who identified himself as Ricky.

In Tivoli Gardens, in the West Kingston police Division, residents were adopting a wait-and-see attitude. "We want to see how the plans start out before we comment," said a group of women and men who did not wish to be named.

In Riverton City residents did not hold back their criticisms. "Right now the man dem just a try get rid a youth. Dem say everyone going have to give away a little of their rights for this plan to work, but I bet you anything that we not going hear of any cases in uptown communities where they go in and kick off the people dem door or hara** residents," said Dave Smith. Residents Roy Garvey and four other persons from the Riverton City community also expressed similar views.

In the meantime, the residents nervously await the implementation of the new measures, even as they called for clarification on some points in the plan.

Clarendon cops under probe
BY T K WHYTE Sunday Observer correspondent editorial@jamaicaobserver.com
Sunday, September 07, 2008

MAY PEN, Clarendon - Two police constables assigned to the Clarendon divisional headquarters in May Pen have been pulled from the streets and assigned desk duties, as the police anti-corruption branch investigates allegations that they stole two kilogrammes of cocaine from a motorist.

The cocaine had a street value of $800,000.

Commanding officer for Clarendon, Superintendent Dayton Henry, who confirmed the report, told the Sunday Observer that he would be asking Police Commissioner Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin to convene a special panel of officers to deal with the case immediately.

"I can positively confirm that report. They have been taken off frontline duties and have been confined to desk duties," Henry told the Sunday Observer yesterday. "Investigations are being done in earnest as we speak. We have collected some statements and some physical exhibits in the matter, which we have turned over to the anti-corruption branch to complete the probe."

Allegations are that about 3:00 pm on September 2, the two cops intercepted a car along Manchester Street in May Pen. The police said the car was being driven by a "businesswoman", whom they declined to name. The two cops allegedly searched the vehicle and found two kilos of cocaine neatly packaged. However, instead of arresting her for the illegal drug, the cops allegedly seized the cocaine and sent her on her way.

The woman immediately reported the matter to the police.

According to Superintendent Henry, investigations revealed that the woman had gone to sell the cocaine to her pre-arranged contact. The customer did not immediately have all the funds ($800,000) to purchase the drug, and the businesswoman refused to leave the cocaine.

"So the purchaser, not feeling happy that the vendor took back the cocaine, called his police friends, set them up to intercept the woman [and] take the cocaine from her and bring it back to them," Henry alleged. "The policemen received strong information on the woman from their underworld friends about what vehicle she was driving and where she would likely be going."

Asked why the cops had not been arrested and charged, Henry said that although the report was strongly against the two constables, they cannot be criminally charged for stealing an illegal substance. Therefore, their charge must be for something other than simple larceny of cocaine.

"You cannot charge a person criminally for stealing anything that is prescribed in the statutes as being illegal," said Henry. "Therefore, when the investigations are completed - and that will be very early - we will be asking the commissioner of police to convene a special panel of officers to promptly deal with the matter so that he can take a decision on the fate of these allegedly corrupt police constables."

Riverside shooting scene with Collier inset picture

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jacksonville Jaguars offensive tackle Richard Collier was shot and critically wounded outside an apartment building early Tuesday as he and a former Jacksonville teammate waited for two women they had met at a nightclub, police said.

Collier and former Jaguars defensive end Kenneth Pettway were waiting in a Cadillac Escalade when a gunman fired into the vehicle, said Jacksonville Sheriff's Office spokesman Ken Jefferson. Collier was shot several times, but it wasn't clear where he was hit.

Collier was in critical condition at Shands Jacksonville Medical Center, a nursing supervisor said early Tuesday. Later, spokesman Chris Turner said the hospital was no longer giving updates on Collier's condition. There are a variety of reasons that can happen, such as a request by relatives.

The motive behind the attack was unknown, and the sheriff's office was investigating. Pettway, who was released in final cuts Saturday, was not injured.

The shooting happened around 2:45 a.m. in a middle- to upper middle-class neighborhood just west of downtown Jacksonville and blocks from the St. Johns River. The players had gone to the apartment complex so the women could drop off their car, authorities said.

The women, who appeared to be in their 20s, were wearing nightclub dresses when they were escorted by police back to the complex midmorning Tuesday, but they declined comment. Jaguars spokesman Dan Edwards declined comment at the hospital, but the team released a statement.

"Were shocked and deeply saddened by this mornings news about Richard Collier," team owner Wayne Weaver said. "We have been informed that Richard has had surgery and he's in critical but stable condition. The entire Jaguars family is praying for Richard and his family at this time."

Collier is the third NFL player to be shot in the past 18 months. Washington Redskins star Sean Taylor was fatally shot during what police said was a botched burglary attempt at his Miami-area home in November. Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams was killed when his rented limousine was sprayed with bullets minutes after leaving a New Year's party at a downtown Denver club in 2007.

Collier is entering his third NFL season. The 26-year-old, who attended Valdosta State, has seen action in eight games in his career. He made his first NFL start in the final game of the 2007 season against Houston.

This is Jamaica's Usain Bolt; as of this second the fastest man in the world and an utter disgrace.

UBolt2.jpg

If this picture is worth a thousand words, then the video at the end of this post is the OED. More on that in a minute.

You must respect this man's speed. He obliterated the field and set a world record in the 100m with a blistering 9.69 seconds. That's FAST. I've read where that's the equivalent of running a 3.5 40 yard dash...all that and the man is 6'5". Amazing.

So why is he a disgrace? Because he's a showboat. An arrogant product of the BLING generation who can't see past his own ego. He has no idea of what the Olympics is really about. Instead of running hard, DESTROYING the world record and perhaps being remembered for all time, this idiot disgraced his country by getting the lead, pulling up at the end just to pound his chest while coasting in to the finish. What was he trying to prove exactly? Was he trying to get everyone's attention? His speed handled that quite effectively. He would have been well-served to let his speed do the talking.

But no. He had to prove every stereotype out there about the "me first, screw you, I gotta get mine, look at me" mentality that exists in the african american culture. You really only need to turn on MTV and watch a few rap videos to get the idea of what I'm talking about. I'm not throwing out a blanket statement meant to encompass the entire community, but it's guys like this that ruin it for everyone.

Listen, I understand it's the Olympics. It's exciting. He was representing his country. Emotions were running high. I get it. But show some respect for all of those things. Make your family proud. Win with dignity. Celebration is fine, but save it until after the race.

I happened to come across this little video. I think it pretty much sums up what I'm talking about. Honestly I couldn't watch the whole thing all the way through, but maybe one of you can.

I love confident people. I think the world needs more of them. But there is confidence and there's chicken-headed arrogance. Usain Bolt has had his moment in the sun. I really hope he remembers it forever, because I intend to forget him.

PS - That gold medal he won has 2 fates....neither of which involve him keeping the thing to pass down to the generations to come. One of them is eBay.
In a rare sit down between a pioneer and new school artist, The Blastmaster KRS-One met with teen sensation Soulja Boy this past Tuesday (August 26) to discuss the state of Hip-Hop culture. The first time meeting was moderated on Rap City by host Q45, who started off the conversation by asking Soulja Boy if he was Hip-Hop. I guess so, man. I hope Im Hip-Hop Soulja stated sheepishly. Ive been number one on the Hip-Hop charts. The conversation moved on to how both artists viewed the definition of Hip-Hop for their generations. You know I have a long, drawn out answer for that, KRS joked. Lets start with the simple stuff: breakin, MCing, graffiti writing, DJing, and beatboxing. Thats the original elements of Hip-Hop. But the way in which you display that can be in infinite kinds. Every generation brings their own kind of presentation. Soulja Boy offered a similar stance in his reply but emphasized the party element of Hip-Hops origins. Hip-Hop is having fun: rapping which is basically what I do, dancing, and partying, he explained. Im the life of the party so I think its all about getting it in, having fun and not thinking about the consequences. The young rapper went on to detail his frustration at being called out by numerous veteran artists such as legend Ice-T, and how his old school influence was listening to 50 Cents early records when he was 11 years old. Furthermore, Soulja Boy revealed that out of all the artists that have made disparaging remarks about him, KRS-One is the only MC to speak to him personally about Hip-Hop culture. KRS took the first steps to heal the expanding rift between new and old school Hip-Hop artists by explaining the perspective of the pioneers. What most of us are expecting is a continuation of the legacy, that the work we did in the 70s, 80s, and 90s was not in vain, KRS stated Thats really where the hurt is coming from. That the younger generation would forget about us and the struggles. We had to fight for this, even to have a Rap City. We expect those that come after us to keep that torch lit. Acknowledging the success of his younger peer, KRS made it a point to emphasize to Soulja Boy the influence he can have in building the culture. Right now were dealing with a generation gap with younger people and us supposedly bitter old school Hip-Hoppers, KRS explained to an attentive Soulja Boy. By us being here we can settle a lot of the generation gap that is out here in the community today. And let me just say this [as] KRS-One, big respect to you and welcome to Hip-Hop! __________________

Man shot dead, house burnt
 Seven-year-old girl seriously wounded

MONTEGO BAY, St James - Gunmen yesterday kicked down the door to Rodney Simpson's home at Fuller District in Granville, shot him dead then set his two-bedroom house on fire.

The men then peppered the area with bullets, three of which caught a seven-year-old girl who resides next door. The girl was admitted to hospital where she underwent surgery. Her condition was said to be serious.

Simpson, 32, worked as a 'watchman', but the police could not say what was the motive for his murder.

Last night, residents of the volatile St James community said they were fearful that the gunmen could strike again.

"A kill dem waah kill wi off," said one male resident, who added he and his common-law wife hid in a bedroom closet when the gunmen were firing wildly after killing Simpson about 1:30 yesterday morning.

The man, who was fearful to have his name published in the newspaper, said a number of residents were living in fear as attacks by armed men were more sustained and vicious. He said the police recently discontinued daily foot patrols in the area, considered one of the crime hot spots in the parish.

Police Superintendent Steve McGregor, the St James police chief, said the police were stretched, especially with the recent upsurge in criminal activities in several areas in Montego Bay.

"We are working with limited resources," McGregor said yesterday. "It is difficult to sustain these operations in all these areas."

Put convicts to work to compensate victims, says public defender

WITTER... they should contribute to the welfare of their victim

Persons convicted of serious crimes should be put to work while serving time in order to earn money to compensate their victims or their victims' families, Public Defender Earl Witter has suggested.

"...That they should contribute to the welfare of their victims, who they have helped or caused to be victimised, there can be no question," Witter said.

Witter's comments was in response to a suggestion by an attendant of the United Nation Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation-sponsored regional workshop on the media and the Caribbean justice system at the Hilton Hotel in Kingston on Thursday.

He later told the Observer that it would not be unreasonable for victims, particularly those who suffer indirectly, to benefit from such compensation.

The public defender said that these inmates could be put to work in areas such as the penal system's farm-work programme.

According to Witter, the system would have to be brought into play by legislation, but said there were "some serious issues" that would first have to be addressed.

These issues, Witter said, include questions like whether this would do away with civil litigation arising from criminal offences, what would be the compensation package, how much of the money made by the convict should go towards the victims or their families, what percentage should be put aside to assist the convict on release from prison, and how much of the money earned would go toward facilitating the housing of the inmate in a humane way at the respective correctional facility?

Notwithstanding the challenges, Witter was confident that it could be done as is the case in other jurisdictions such as England and Trinidad and Tobago.

"It would be a momentous development in our penal and legal system," he told the Observer yesterday.

Vybz Kartels latest corporate venture, Daggering Condoms, are set to hit the market next week as the initial shipment of the prophylactics arrived this week. The condoms which are marketed under the tagline 'Playsafe, Ramp Ruff Till Game Ova!!'  will be packaged in a cool black cube which bears the abovementioned tagline and Vybz Kartels signature.
The condoms will be distributed to the market next week, we already have an agreement with the Total gas stations, and Super Plus to take the product. We have been getting a lot of requests for the product through our myspace page, and we have had an overwhelming response from the young dancehall market, we got over 1000 emails with name suggestions for the condom before we settled on Daggering, Corey Todd, one of the principals in Daggering Unlimited, the company distributing the product, said.

Daggering Unlimited will be hosting a series of launch parties all over the island to raise awareness about the product, and there will be a campaign to choose a Daggering Lady who will be a spokesperson for the brand. Vybz Kartel will be attending a number of safe sex health fairs, starting with one in St. Andrew tomorrow that will attempt to raise the level of awareness among young teens and adults about the importance of practising safe sex.
According to the USAID Health website, Jamaica appears to have stabilized its HIV/AIDS epidemic with 1.5 percent of the adult population estimated to be HIV-positive and no significant change over the last five years. However, there is still cause for concern because recent data from high-risk groups suggest that at least 9 percent of commercial sex workers and 20 to 30 percent of men who have sex with men are estimated to be HIV-positive. Men and women aged 20 to 39 account for 54 percent of reported AIDS cases in Jamaica

Severed head of wanted man found in St Catherine

Friday, September 05, 2008

The severed head of a man, who the St Catherine North Police say they had wanted for three murders, was found along the Tredegar Park main road in Spanish Town, in the parish yesterday.

The head has been identified as that of 21-year-old Lionel Williams, otherwise called Nannie Boy, who hailed from the said community. Police say Williams was wanted for the murders of a man and two women in the Spanish Town area.

According to the police, shortly before 6:00 am, Williams' decomposing head was found by residents who summoned them. They said no motive has been established for his killing and that they were trying to locate "the rest of" his body.

"At the moment we have no clear motive for the killing or information as to where the rest of his body might be," Superintendent Derrick Champagnie told the Observer.

"Nannie Boy was one of the men on our wanted list. He was a part of a gang which operates in the Tredegar Park area and was wanted for the shooting of a man and two females between 2005-2006," said Champagnie, adding that the gang was responsible for a string of shootings, extortion and other criminal activities in Spanish Town.

Meanwhile, homicide detectives in that division were also probing the murder of a truck driver who was attacked and shot on Wood Street in Frazer's Content also in the parish early yesterday morning.

According to the Constabulary Communication Network, 35-year-old Darren Hutchinson was shot multiple times by gunmen as he drove along Wood Street shortly after 7:00 am.

The cops said that Hutchinson, in a bid to escape his attackers, turned onto nearby Frazer's Boulevard where he came out of the vehicle and collapsed in a ditch. An illegal Taurus 9mm pistol was allegedly found in Hutchinson's truck.

Two of dancehalls hottest artistes seem to be at it again lyrically. Portmore Empire leader Vybz Kartel and Alliance bad boy Mavado both voiced tracks targeting each other on Stephen McGregors Daybreak Riddim.

Mavado3.jpgAccording to a source close to Big Ship studio, Kartel first recorded P*nany Tight, a song commending a female on her asset while directing her on how to pleasure him and Mavado then voiced his song titled Nuh Bleach Wid Cream. The track is laced with lines that would lead one to believe were aimed at Kartel.

Vybz Kartel heard Mavados track then wrote and voiced Daylight on the spot.

We hope that if an all out clash is brewing between these two it is kept lyrical as we know dancehall fans enjoy them.

Seven killed at dawn

Just looking at the pictures of her son, her four-month-old granddaughter and the child's mother, is enough to move Jennifer Adamson to tears.

As the grieving mother pointed to her slain family members on photographs retrieved from an album, a steady stream of tears flowed from her eyes. Marlon Hurd, 26; his girlfriend, Shaineta Smith, 18; and their four-month old baby, Rana-Jay, were three of the seven persons killed in the Norman Gardens area of east Kingston early Friday morning.

Adamson told THE STAR that Hurd and his family were asleep in his room and that she was awakened by gunshots shortly after 3 a.m. "When I look at the clock, it was about 16 after 3. Mi jus hear di gunshot, dats all mi hear. I thought it was around di back, and a later on mi realize seh it was in his room it a gwaan," she said.

Hurd had been working at the Norman Manley International Airport since February, and his mother has no idea why anyone would want him dead. "Nobody don't know," she said, "Marlon go Windward Road Primary an den him pass an go Donald Quarrie. Im seh gun a fire out deh and im lef an get himself inna Norman Manley. When war start out deh im stop go school. Im nuh go no more school. Mi son nuh gimmi no trouble, no trouble."

Struggling to explain what she was feeling, she told THE STAR, "Mi can't tell yu how mi a feel. Mi chest a hurt mi, mi head a hurt mi and mi belly bottom a hurt mi. Dem couldn't shoot him and mek im recover? Mek im get fi go doctor? If a even fi wi push him inna wheelchair. But dem tek him ... dem tek him," she repeated.

Jerry Hurd played football with his son on Thursday night, and earlier in the day, the two cleared away weeds from their gate. He too was moved to tears as he spoke about his son's murder and said, "Mi neva deh here or nothing. Dem call mi about 4 o' clock and tell mi fi come dung cause dem shoot up Marlon and im baby. Mi come see him an him baby mother pan di bed, but dem did rush off wid di baby to hospital already."

"Mi feel like mi inna dreamland," he continued, "Mi can't believe dis a happen. Mi an him chop out, out deh so and wi play ball las' night. Him and nobody nuh inna no friction. Neither him baby mother, cause she not even come from di area."

Marlon's 11-year-old sister broke down during her father's interview and when she was sent for a broom at the back of the house, she told her aunt, "Mi fraid mi go roun deh."

Another aunt was heard wailing inside a bedroom and relatives told THE STAR that Marlon had died in her arms.

Further into the community, along Glasspole Avenue, the gunmen also wreaked havoc. Joan Violet Williams, 48, and her 18-year-old daughter, Christina Bryan, were killed after their home was invaded about 4:30 a.m. When THE STAR visited the scene, a tenant at the house said, "As far as I can see, dem jus kick off di door and kill di people dem. A di other side me deh an mi jus hear like some rumbling. Is when di police dem come, mi realise seh di two people get shot. She [Violet] was a good friend of mine, di whole a wi live good. She worked at a restaurant over Port Royal. If she an people have tings a street, mi nuh really know."

aged, youthful not spared

The rampage did not end there. however, as 70-year-old Joan Richardson and nine-year-old Mutombo Thomas were killed at about 5:30 a.m., along Lacruise Road. Thomas, who was nude and preparing for school, hid under a cellar, but was found and killed.

The Kingston East police, who are investigating, said the seven murders might have been linked to a feud between rival gangs in the area.

Deputy Superintendent of Police and officer in charge of Crime for the division, Michael Ellis, said preliminary investigations have pointed to reprisals. He also noted that the police had already ascertained names of individuals suspected to be directly involved. DSP Ellis, however, said that further investigations would have to be done before releasing those names.

I am going to meet with my teams to see what we have accomplished, after that we will see if the names can be released," said DSP Ellis.

A TODDLER died after plunging more than 30ft from a flat window, police said today. The 23-month-old boy is believed to have fallen from the fourth floor at a tower block in Tottenham, north London, on Friday. He died from his injuries the next day. A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: A post-mortem established cause of death as massive head injuries. The child lived in a block of flats known as Croydon, on the Broadwater Farm Estate in Gloucester Road, police said. A spokesman added: The 23-month-old boy fell approx 10 metres (33ft). He was taken by London Ambulance Service to Royal London Hospital with a fractured skull and was later transferred to Great Ormond Street Hospital, where he subsequently died. Detectives based in Stratford were investigating, he added. A Ł33million redevelopment programme recently took place on the estate, which will forever be associated with rioting that resulted in the murder of Pc Keith Blakelock. Those riots, 23 years ago, were sparked when the community was angered by the death of resident Cynthia Jarrett who suffered heart failure when officers burst into her home during a police raid.
Seventeen year-old Montegomery Lewis, a student of the Knockalva High School in Hanover appeared in the Ramble Resident Magistrates Court on Thursday to answer to a charge of murder. Lewis was arrested and charged after he allegedly stabbed to death Derrick Dennis, a 50 year-old bus driver with who he allegedly had an heated dispute over bus fare.

According to reports, Lewis claimed that he was overcharged after he took the bus from Montego Bay to Ramble, the community which houses the Knockalva High School. It is understood that the student requested an additional $20 on his change.
A tussle then ensued between the youngster and the bus driver during which a knife was brought into play. Dennis was stabbed to death. On the other hand, it is reported that Lewis is claiming that during the struggle he sustained a fractured nose.
Students of the Knockalva High School have complained that they are constantly being overcharged by bus drivers, who claim that they must pay the full fares as they oftentimes behave like big men and women.

TEEN HERALD understands that the police and the Transport Authority has launched an investigation into this matter.
In the meantime, there are growing concern over the conduct of students, especially from Knockalva. Only recently the Ramble police recovered a very large quantity of knives, machetes, and other cutting implement from several students of the school. Some were taken into custody in connection with an informal brothel which operated in close proximity to the school premises.

A COP car with flashing blue lights hit and killed a mum as it ferried a takeaway to officers, it was claimed last night.

The 61-year-old woman was mown down as she walked with her husband and son.

Witnesses said the driver of the marked police car had his sirens and lights switched on.

But a source claimed the young driver was on a food dash not responding to an emergency call.

An officer said: We were told it was a young driver who recently passed his police driving qualification. He had his sirens and blue lights on but there was never any 999 call.

He had gone out to get a takeaway for his mates.

The woman, named locally as Sandy Simpson, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witness Ruth Oswald, 53, said: I heard the siren and then a bang. It was just horrific.

The woman was lying in the road and the officer whod been driving was leaning over her.

He looked like he was in shock and didnt know what to do. Her husband was mad I think he smashed the window on the police car and he was bashing his head against the fence.

Alan Headlam, 56, said: An older man was shouting You have killed my wife and a younger man shouted Youve killed my mum.

The woman was near her home in Bromley, Kent, when she was hit at around 9pm on Saturday.

A team from the Independent Police Complaints Commission was yesterday analysing the data systems from the car. It promised a thorough investigation.

A Met spokesman said: The officer involved has been relieved of driving duties while the IPCC investigation is carried out

Little Tash-Marie Collins smiles while being hugged by Bishop Barrington DaCosta, as she repeats her vows before being baptised. - George Henry

Tash-Marie Collins might be at the tender age of eight, but she was not too young to acknowledge that she was a sinner and that she needed to be saved and baptised, when she spoke to pastor for the Sanguinetti New Testament Church of God in Clarendon, Bishop Barrington DaCosta about baptism less than a month ago.

The little girl, who is a student at the Knox Junior School in Spaldings, was baptised on Sunday August 17, in front of an average congregation, which included her parents Fionie and Steve Collins, who are both members of that church.

Her mother told THE STAR that little Tash-Marie was not forced to be baptised at such a tender age, but that she was the one who decided that she wanted to do the sacred act. She said it was less than a month ago one Sunday night that the Holy Ghost manifested itself at her church while she was moderating service.

"I was moderating family training hour, and looking down, I saw Tash-Marie standing at the altar in tears. I was wondering what was happening to her mind, but she was there praising the Lord. It was really amazing to see a child of her age reaching out to the Lord," said Mrs Collins.

She noted that when service was through that night, her little daughter came to her and told her that she had just finished talking to her pastor. Collins said she asked her why she went to the pastor, and her reply was that she (Tash-Marie) went to the pastor and told him that she wanted to be baptised.

Collins said knowing the type of person her daughter is; one who loved to dance to reggae and other music, she was a bit surprised. She pointed out that she recalled Tash-Marie telling her sometime ago that she would not get baptised, because she loved to dance to reggae.

"I said to her; but Tash-Marie, remember you said you were not going to get baptised because you love to dance to the reggae music? But her reply was that she was really serious this time and that she really wants to serve the Lord and wants to be a very good Christian. She said 'Mommy, this time I want to be a good, good Christian," said her mother.

Mrs Collins said her little daughter made it clear that she had spoken to her pastor and that she was asking both parents not to stop her from being baptised. She added that she also told her father.

Mrs Collins said while on her way home from church that night, she was wondering if her daughter's request to be baptised was just one of those moments when she really wanted to do the sacred act and then change sometime down the road, and get back to her old little habits.

That was not the case, as according to Mrs Collins, as the days went by leading up to Sunday August 17, Tash-Marie kept asking her several questions about the Lord, and about Christianity, including what she had to do to be saved. It was then that the parent fully realised that her little one was serious.

Tash-Marie told THE STAR that she wanted to be baptised because she wanted to serve the Lord. She added that she wanted to do so, because she recognised that some day she will die, and she does not want to end up in hell with Satan, but to spend time in heaven with Jesus.

"I was a little afraid to get dipped in the water, because I did not know how to hold my breath," said Tash-Marie.

She wants children who are not yet serving God, especially her friends, to get baptised so that they can escape the dreaded hell. She wants to remind all humans that they should love the Lord and serve Him in spirit and in truth.

Man, 41, Sold Stolen Bras on eBay, Prosecutors Say

A New York man has been charged with selling $80,000 worth of stolen Victoria's Secret bras online.
Prosecutors said 41-year-old George Tutaya was arraigned Tuesday on charges of possessing stolen property. He faces up to seven years in prison if convicted.
A telephone call to his attorney hasn't been returned.

Prosecutors said Tutaya used eBay auction and PayPal payment accounts to sell the bra**ieres for about $25 each. The bras retail for $40 to $80.
Prosecutors said records recovered at Tutaya's home in Queens link him to the sale of more than 2,000 bras. They said another 650 stolen bras were recovered in his home.

Chrome is said to have some security issues...one of them is an outdated WebKit.(IMG:Google)

\n

The first thing to remember is that Chrome is open-source and, as such, Google knows security researchers will pick apart its browser and outline all its flaws. This is one of the main reasons for releasing it as an open-source product. With that said, Google should have known better than to release its Chrome browser with a less than polished version of Apples WebKit. The current version of Chrome uses Apples WebKit version 525.13.

\n

This version, according to researcher Aviv Raff, was used in the Windows beta of Safari 3.1, the same version that was vulnerable to the carpet b****ing attack -- Chrome uses Safari 3.1 as the rendering engine, which is why if your Web site works in Safari, then Chrome will display it properly. Apple fixed the issue through its Safari 3.2 update. However, Chrome appears to be a version late and a dollar short in keeping up.

\n

Aviv Raff created a proof-of-concept (PoC) to show how Chrome can be exploited:

\n

This PoC will automatically download a JAR file and place it in the downloads folder (there are reports that in some cases it will download it to the Desktop, as in Safari. In those cases, the Safari-Pwns-IE exploit can be easily converted to Chrome-Pwns-IE exploit), Raff said.

\n

Unfortunately, whenever Google Chrome downloads a file, it creates a download bar at the bottom of the page, which seems, for the untrained eye, as part of the page. The downloaded filename is displayed as a button, and the one click on this button will execute the file.

\n

The problem is that this vulnerability requires the user to download a file they are unaware of, and then execute it. At the same time, there are safeguards and warnings.

\n

If the file is an executable (e.g. .EXE, .BAT, etc.), Windows Explorer will show a warning that this file was downloaded from the Internet. In this case, Google Chrome does a good job by setting the Zone.Identifier in the alternative data stream, Raff points out.

\n

This is not the only \'security\' issue posed. Another bug, discovered by Rishi Narang, can cause the browser to crash (a denial of tabs and service, if you will) simply because of a % character in the URL.

\n

Google\'s browser is still clean and has many positive features. However, as long as there are outdated engines and some bugs in the code, then it will never top or compete too seriously with the likes of Mozilla\'s Firefox or Microsoft\'s Internet Explorer.

\n

Considering that Chrome is more Google App-focused at present anyway, why would someone switch to Chrome full time? Are people really using this as a steady browser, conducting online banking or other critical uses? Granted, Chrome is EV SSL compliant.

\n

As mentioned in the TTH Chrome review, it offers a nice break from tradition when surfing the Web. Use it for what it is, a slick browser that will help manage almost the entire Google line of services as well as allow you to visit normal non-critical Web sites.

\n

If you need to do research of a security nature, business, or sensitive work online, then use Firefox or Internet Explorer, at least until Google releases the full and final version of Chrome.

Now, thanks to some detailed clock cleaning, Googles browser is reported to be riddled with security problems. Not so fast, before you set the little-browser-that-could on fire, take some time to think things through.

Google's browser is still clean and has many positive features. However, as long as there are outdated engines and some bugs in the code, then it will never top or compete too seriously with the likes of Mozilla's Firefox or Microsoft's Internet Explorer.

Considering that Chrome is more Google App-focused at present anyway, why would someone switch to Chrome full time? Are people really using this as a steady browser, conducting online banking or other critical uses? Granted, Chrome is EV SSL compliant.

As mentioned in the TTH Chrome review, it offers a nice break from tradition when surfing the Web. Use it for what it is, a slick browser that will help manage almost the entire Google line of services as well as allow you to visit normal non-critical Web sites.

If you need to do research of a security nature, business, or sensitive work online, then use Firefox or Internet Explorer, at least until Google releases the full and final version of Chrome.

Is Eddie Murphy Gay?

Jande_1

Jande_1Continuing the story of whether or not Johnny Gill is gay, the paparazzi busted comedian actor Eddie Murphy and his so called live in boyfriend, singer Johnny Gill of the group "New Edition" leaving a posh gay night club in Los Angeles last night. When the paparazzi asked Murphy if he was gay and why he was exiting a gay night spot, he threw his hand up in the air to shield himself from the camera and shouted out obscenities.

This doesn't look good for either Murphy or Gill.

The ex-girlfriend of singer Johnny Gill is now speaking out about her recent split up with the singer. She tells Atlanta Gossip, (AG) reporter Tiffany Long that Johnny is struggling with his sexuality and that Hollywood has put pressure on him to be straight.

Johnny and I broke up earlier this year after I became curious about his friendship/relationship with actor/comedian Eddie Murphy, she said. Johnny and Eddie have always been very close friends, but I could not compete with their relationship. It was strange...I cant even explain it, she tell Atlanta Gossip.

Fjj6gm Also, remember the rumors that Arsenio Hall and Eddie Murphy were an item way back when? Maybe they weren't just rumors afterall. Fjj6gm

Bottled water already a more than $10 billion industry is the fastest-growing beverage category in the U.S. But is it good for you? Here's the pure truth.

MYTH #1: BOTTLED WATER IS BETTER THAN TAP.
Not necessarily. While labels gush about bottled water that "begins as snowflakes" or flows from "deep inside lush green volcanoes," between 25 and 40 percent of bottled water comes from a less exotic source: U.S. municipal water supplies. (Bottling companies buy the water and filter it, and some add minerals.) That's not really a bad thing: The Environmental Protection Agency oversees municipal water quality, while the Food and Drug Administration monitors bottled water; in some cases, EPA codes are more stringent.

MYTH #2: PURIFIED WATER TASTES BETTER.
The "purest" water distilled water with all minerals and salts removed tastes flat; it's the sodium, calcium, magnesium, and chlorides that give water its flavor. The "off" taste of tap water is the chlorine; if you refrigerate it in a container with a loose-fitting lid, the chlorine taste will be gone overnight.

MYTH #3: BOTTLED WATER WITH VITAMINS, MINERALS, OR PROTEIN IS MORE HEALTHY THAN REGULAR WATER.
"Vitamins, color, herbs, protein, and all the other additions to water those are a marketing ploy," says Marion Nestle, Ph.D., professor of nutrition studies at New York University. Plus, the additives are usually a scant serving of the vitamins you really need in a day, adds Amy Subar, Ph.D., a nutritionist with the National Cancer Institute. Enhanced waters usually contain sugars and artificial flavorings to sweeten the deal and can pack more calories than diet soda. When it comes to providing fluoride, tap water usually wins, though that element is increasingly being added to bottled waters.

The manufacture and launching of Black Gold, Blackwells Fine Jamaican Rum is the latest in a long list of entrepreneurial endeavors embarked on by hotel and music business tycoon, Chris Blackwell.

The 70 year old is breathing new life into an age old family run trade of producing, bottling and distributing alcohol in Jamaica, as his own ancestors once owned and managed Jamaicas leading rum producing firm, J Wray & Nephew.

Black Gold has been concocted using the Blackwell family recipes from the past and while it will surely be well established in the Jamaican marketplace, Blackwell has his sites set on exporting what is indeed a brand of Jamaicas finest rum, overseas - particularly to the US and UK. In these regions, Blackwells reputation for impeccable business abilities are already highly recognized and respected.

Teaming up with partner Richard Kirshenbaum of New Yorks Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners advertising agency, Blackwell has positioned Black Gold to become a much sought after and even coveted brand. With a track record that includes assisting in the reinvigoration of brands like: Target, Jergens and Moet & Chandon, Kirshenbaum is bound to put an extra magical touch to the business of establishing Black Gold on the global market scene.

Blackwell founded Island Records; and the worlds penchant for reggae music has been attributed to this excellent foresight of his. Born in London, he was raised in Jamaica and in 1959 turned an initial US$1,000 investment into a major recording industry conglomerate called Island Records.

Millie Smalls My Boy Lollipop was his first major hit and in 1971 he signed Bob Marley to Island giving him that initial and foremost boost towards superstardom. Other rock greats like U2, Roxy Music and Sly & Robbie were also signed to the Island label that was eventually sold to PolyGram.

As a hotelier, Blackwell has established resorts that he says are, for people who want to come and get close to the real organic feel of Jamaica. His tourism enclaves in Jamaica include: Goldeneye in Oracabessa, The Caves in Negril and Strawberry in rural St Andrew.

Kevin Burke, Black Gold Rum spokesman told reporters recently that, Black Gold is certainly Jamaican treasure, we are very proud to launch and firmly plant our roots in Jamaica. The unique and authentic packaging and most importantly the high quality of the rum, give us something very special to share with consumers.

Dear Pastor,

I am a 14-year-old girl who attends a prominent school in St Andrew. I am in second form. I am very intelligent. I am one of the top-five students in my class. I set my priorities straight and I have my head on my shoulders.

However, I think I have a problem. In first form, a boy in my class liked me, but he said he was afraid to approach me. He told me all this from the start of second form in September. Up until now he has a major crush on me. Don't get me wrong, he has his head on his shoulders also. He's a Christian and he's the brightest boy in class. He says he loves me and I believe him.

My reason for writing is that I have turned him down a lot of times and he keeps on coming back. I shamed and embarra**ed him, but he doesn't care. He even had his reputation crushed because of me. People call him 'gyal clown' because of how he treats me, but he doesn't seem to care. I truly believe that this is definitely NOT infatuation. I've experienced infatuation a lot of times and I'm sure this is something different. Our families are close and the truth is I really like him. He is one of my best friends and he influences me positively; for example, he reminds me to study for my exams and not to lie and stuff like that. He is spiritually strong and he's very, very serious about his schoolwork. He constantly asks me to give him a chance, but I don't know if I should.

Pastor, should I? One more thing is that no boy can interfere with my schoolwork, so if I gave him a chance, there is no possibility of it affecting of my grades, I assure you.

AMY WINEHOUSE was last night warned: "Quit drugs now or die."

The junkie singer, 24, was still in hospital having tests last night after she fainted on Monday.

And doctors warned her next collapse could be her last.

A source said: "She might have escaped this time, but eventually she wont get up again.

"The only thing to stop that happening is if she quits drugs."

Doctors said the faint could be linked to her massive overdose last summer.

Brain tests at the time revealed problems linked to drugs. Amy was told she would keep having seizures unless she quit.

The source said yesterday: "After this, it looks like they were right."

Pals urged the singer to quit the music scene to make a full recovery.

One said: "She should not work for at least six months. Its irresponsible of her team to keep putting her on stage.

"She needs to get away from temptations."

Amy, who has fought heroin and crack addiction, is due to play Glastonbury and Nelson Mandelas 90th birthday this month.

Yesterday dad Mitch, who drove her from home in Camden, North London, to the London Clinic near Harley Street, said: "Shes doing fine."

Her spokesman denied she had been partying.

HAGGARD AMY WINEHOUSE sparked new fears for her health last night after she ordered in a staggering 48 bottles of Jack Daniels for a weekend gig.

Whiskey galore ... Amy Winehouse ordered two crates

Recovering junkie Amy stunned Bestival organisers with her demand for two crates of the 40 per cent spirit.

The hard-living Back to Black singer, 24, has a history of axing gigs at the last minute, and faces legal action after pulling out of a Paris concert just hours before she was due to headline last Friday.

Now organisers of the three-day Bestival event on the Isle of Wight fear she will either back out of her show tomorrow night or turn up in no fit state to perform.

A Bestival source said last night: Its common for artists to make requests for food and beverages before they arrive.

Excited

But organisers have heard Miss Winehouse has ordered in an extremely large amount of Jack Daniels, in fact, a ridiculous amount that she and her team could not possibly consume during their short stay.

Ashanti - you may wanna keep an extra short leash on rapper Nelly. rapper Nelly and Solange Knowles reportedly "hung out". And who knows what they were doing.

Solange was in St. Louis last weekend promoting her new album and Nelly was in town with family. But the two managed to have a secret rendezvous last Sunday night. The insider explained, "Solange was only in town for one night and she made sure to give Nelly a call ... and then they hung out."

Of course, no one knows what happened when the two of them hung out. But given Nelly's reputation, YOU  can certainly guess...
WHO KNOWS??????
1220531561miscrowavebaby.jpgSeptember 04, 2008. DAYTON, Ohio (AP) -- A woman convicted of murdering her infant daughter by microwaving her was spared the death penalty Wednesday by a jury that couldn't reach a unanimous decision.

China Arnold showed no immediate reaction, but she smiled and waved to family members as deputies led her from the courtroom. Her relatives told her they loved her.

"I love you all, too," said Arnold, 28.

The defense had argued that Arnold was drunk when the offense occurred and had no motive, while prosecutors had called the crime "heinous" as they argued for the death penalty.

After about five hours of deliberation, the jury told Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge Mary Wiseman that it couldn't decide whether to recommend the death penalty or life in prison, and that it wouldn't be able to make such a decision even if it deliberated through Thursday.

Wiseman is now limited to sentencing Arnold to life in prison without parole, life without parole for at least 30 years, or life without parole for at least 25 years. She plans to impose her sentence Monday.

Arnold was accused of killing month-old Paris Talley in 2005. A judge declared a mistrial in February, and the retrial began August 18. The jury found Arnold guilty Friday of aggravated murder.

"It's not about achieving the death penalty," Assistant Montgomery County Prosecutor David Franceschelli said after the jury's announcement. "The judge is going to figure out the appropriate penalty. The jurors in this case took a shot at sentencing, and for whatever reason 12 people couldn't come to the same conclusion."

Outside the courthouse, Arnold's relatives hugged one another.

"We're relieved that an innocent person didn't receive the death penalty," said defense attorney Jon Paul Rion. "It doesn't make sense that a person who has had no real problems in their life can even be accused of something like this."

Rion had asked Tuesday for a new trial, saying a former cellmate who said Arnold confessed to the crime has changed her story. Wiseman has not ruled on the motion and said she would schedule a hearing.

Rion said he plans to present witnesses that point to another person being responsible for the baby's death.

During the trial, an 8-year-old boy said he saw another boy walk into the kitchen of a nearby apartment with the baby, heard the microwave go on and then later saw the burned baby in the microwave.

Attorneys for both sides addressed the jury before deliberations on Wednesday. The fact that Arnold had been a Girl Scout, that her father died when she was young and that she comes from a close family does not outweigh the seriousness of the crime, Assistant Montgomery County Prosecutor Daniel Brandt said.

"That tells us she has no excuses for her actions," he said.

Defense attorney Kevin Lennen urged the jury not to recommend the death penalty, saying Arnold was drunk at the time and that she had no motive to kill her child.

Franceschelli had the last word, calling the crime "heinous." He pulled out a wristwatch and waved it at jurors.

"If this is not the time for the death penalty, when is the time?" he said.

SUGE KNIGHT ARRESTED

August 29, 2008
Marion Suge Knight was arrested and incarcerated for assault and drug charges, stemming from an early morning altercation with his girlfriend.

According to the Associated Press, Knight, 43, was arrested on a street off of the Las Vegas Strip, after police responded to a domestic dispute call.

Knight and the woman argued in a car while the mogul was driving, before he allegedly punched her in the head.

"The victim purposely grabbed the steering wheel and caused the vehicle to hit the curb," police revealed adding that the woman tried to run away, but Knight gave chase and caught up with her.

When police officers arrived on the scene, they allegedly found Knight standing over his girlfriend with a knife in his hand.

He did not stab her, added department spokesman Jacinto Rivera. A search of Knight also turned up the drugs ecstasy and hydrocodone.

Knight has been charged with felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor charges of dangerous drugs without a prescription and domestic violence.

According to reports, Knight is still being held in jail on the domestic violence charge.
