Efforts by our team to get a sneak peak of the product were met with misfortunes, but instead we were told that it's release is going to be one of mammoth proportion.

In other news earlier this week the Gully god also nabbed his first MOBO (Music Of Black Origin) Awards beating out the likes of the self proclaimed king of the dancehall Beenie Man, Tarrus Riley, Busy Signal and Etana in the 'Best Reggae' category to join the elite ranks of other recipients such as Beenie Man, Sean Paul and Mr Lover Lover Shaggy.

Mavado is now busy in the studios putting the final touches on his upcoming album 'Mr. Brook - A Better Tomorrow' slated for release later this year.

Joe McCain said Friday he'll withdraw from campaign activities for his brother, GOP presidential nominee John McCain, after calling 911 to angrily complain about traffic. Joe McCain has apologized for making the call.

The candidate's younger brother, who lives in Alexandria, Va., told Washington radio station WTOP he was returning from a campaign event in Philadelphia around 2 a.m. on Oct. 18 when he got stuck in traffic on Interstate 495 at the Wilson Bridge. Police say the call was made about 1:30 a.m. Oct. 21.

Frustrated because of the traffic, Joe McCain called 911 to find out what was going on. The operator asked him to "state your emergency."

"Well, it's not an emergency, but do you know why on one side at the damn drawbridge of 95 traffic is stopped for 15 minutes and yet traffic's coming the other way?" Joe McCain said.

The operator asked him if he was calling 911 to complain about traffic. McCain then uttered an expletive and hung up the phone.

McCain told WTOP that he thought his cell phone was on mute.

After hanging up with 911, McCain said he called Alexandria police to ask them about the traffic on the bridge and got a similar reaction.

"I did not mean to swear at the officers themselves," McCain said. If he were in their situation, "it would have really frosted me too and I absolutely understand their reaction."

Joe McCain said: "I feel terrible about having hurt the campaign over this incident. I won't be doing any more campaigning because of that." He said he's going to write a note of apology to the 911 operator and to the Alexandria police and he hasn't spoken to his brother, the candidate, about the incident.

"He's not going to be happy about it, I'm sure," Joe McCain said.

McCain campaign spokesman Tucker Bounds said: "Joe McCain recognizes his mistake and has apologized. We are moving on."

One of John McCain's rallying cries in his campaign has been to highlight the concerns of Joe the Plumber, an Ohioan named Joe Wurzelbacher who has become the central thematic element in speeches by McCain and his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

They note that Joe the Plumber accused Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama of fostering tax plans that would keep him from buying the two-man company where he works.

McCain's brother has been in the news on other occasions recently.

Joe McCain, speaking at an event in early October in support of his brother, called two Democratic-leaning areas in Northern Virginia "communist country."

"I've lived here for at least 10 years and before that about every third duty I was in either Arlington or Alexandria, up in communist country," the younger McCain, a Navy veteran, said at an event in Loudoun County, Va. Joe McCain then apologized, but the remark reportedly drew laughter at the event.

About a week later, the candidate's brother sent an e-mail blasting the campaign's "counter-productive" strategy.

"Let John McCain be John McCain," Joe McCain wrote in the e-mail. "Make ads that show John not as crank and curmudgeon but as a great leader for his time."

McCain's brother was sharply critical of unidentified top campaign officials who "so tightly 'control the message'" that they are preventing reporters from speaking with those, like himself, who know the candidate best.

Jennifer Hudson's mother, brother slain in Chicago

 The mother and brother of Jennifer Hudson were found shot dead Friday at a South Side home, and police were looking for a missing child who is the nephew of the singer and Oscar-winning actress.

"We can confirm that there is an ongoing investigation concerning the deaths of Jennifer Hudson's mother, Darnell Donerson, and her brother, Jason Hudson," Hudson's personal publicist, Lisa Kasteler, said in a statement. "No further comment will be made and the family has asked that their privacy be respected at this difficult time."

Police spokeswoman Monique Bond said the deaths appeared to be the result of domestic abuse. The Cook County medical examiner's office said autopsies for Donerson, 57, and Jason Hudson, 29, were pending.

Deputy Chief Joseph Patterson said a family member entered the home around 3 p.m. Friday, found a woman shot on the living room floor and left to notify authorities. Responding officers found a man shot in the bedroom, Patterson said. There was no sign of forced entry.

Police tape blocked access to the large, white house, where a crowd gathered outside.

Authorities issued an Amber Alert for 7-year-old Julian King and were seeking a 1994 white Chevrolet Suburban. The child was the grandson of the female victim, Patterson said.

The alert said the child was possibly abducted and could be accompanied by a man named William Balfour considered armed and dangerous who was a suspect in the double homicide investigation. Records from the Illinois Department of Corrections show Balfour, 27, who has not been charged with a crime, is on parole and spent nearly seven years in prison for attempted murder, vehicular hijacking and possessing a stolen vehicle.

The two could also be in a teal or green Chrysler Concorde with a temporary license plate, a left front headlight hanging out and scratches on the left side of the vehicle, police said.

The tragedy comes as Hudson, who grew up in Chicago, continues to reach new heights in her career. Her song "Spotlight" is No. 1 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop charts and her recently released, self-tiled debut album has been a top seller. She was featured in this year's blockbuster "Sex and the City" movie and is also starring in the hit film "The Secret Life of Bees."

She won an Academy Award for best supporting actress in 2007 for her role in "Dreamgirls." In an interview last year with Vogue, Hudson credited her mother with encouraging her to audition for "American Idol," which launched her career.

The singer, whose father died when she was a teenager, described herself as very close to her family. In a recent AP interview she said her family, which includes older siblings Julia and Jason, helped keep her grounded.

"My faith in God and my family, they're very realistic and very normal, they're not into the whole limelight kind of thing, so when I go home to Chicago that's just another place that's home," she said. "I stand in line with everybody else, or, when I go home to my mom I'm just Jennifer, (so she says), 'You get up and you take care of your own stuff.' And I love that; I don't like when people tell you everything you want to hear, I want to hear the truth, you know what I mean."

Hudson recently announced her engagement to David Otunga, best known for his stint on VH1's reality show "I Love New York."

Hudson's representatives would not disclose her whereabouts Friday. She had been scheduled to appear Monday in Los Angeles to collect an ensemble cast honor at the Hollywood Awards for "The Secret Life of Bees" with co-stars including Alicia Keys, Queen Latifah and Dakota Fanning.

TOKYO A 43-year-old Japanese woman whose sudden divorce in a virtual game world made her so angry that she killed her online husband's digital persona has been arrested on suspicion of hacking, police said Thursday.

The woman, who is jailed on suspicion of illegally accessing a computer and manipulating electronic data, used his identification and password to log onto popular interactive game "Maple Story" to carry out the virtual murder in mid-May, a police official in northern Sapporo said on condition of anonymity, citing department policy.

"I was suddenly divorced, without a word of warning. That made me so angry," the official quoted her as telling investigators and admitting the allegations.

Photos of a mammoth spider devouring a bird in a Queensland backyard are sweeping email inboxes and according to experts, it's all real.

The photos which are reported to have been taken this week in Atherton, west of Cairns show the spider clenching its legs around a lifeless bird trapped in a web.


Head spider keeper at the Australian Reptile Park at Gosford on NSW central coast, Joel Shakespeare, said the spider was a Golden Orb Weaver.

"Normally they prey on large insects it's unusual to see one eating a bird," he told ninemsn.

Mr Shakepeare said he had seen Golden Orb Weaver spiders as big as a human hand but the northern species in tropical areas were known to grow larger.

Queensland Museum identified the bird as a native finch called the Chestnutbreasted Mannikin.

The bird, which appears frozen in an angel-like pose, most likely flew into the web and got caught, according to Mr Shakepeare.

"It wouldn't eat the whole bird," he said.

But the spider would probably prepare a liquid soup with the finch as it does with insects and discard of what it doesn't need.

Dead bear covered with Obama signs found at school

CULLOWHEE, N.C. Police at Western Carolina University and wildlife officials were investigating the discovery early Monday of a dead bear cub draped with a pair of Barack Obama campaign signs.

Leila Tvedt, associate vice chancellor for public relations, said Monday night that maintenance workers found the 75-pound bear cub shot to death in front of the school's administration building at the entrance to campus. The Obama yard signs were stapled together and placed over the bear's head, Tvedt said.

The bear had been shot in the head, Tvedt said.

"Western Carolina University deplores the inappropriate behavior that has led to this troubling incident," Tvedt said. "We cannot speculate on the motives of the people involved nor who those people might be. Campus police are cooperating fully with authorities to investigate this matter."

University police called in state Wildlife Resources officials to remove the body and help in the investigation.

Bear season is under way in western North Carolina.

Nightclub soldier was under probe for 2007 shooting


The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) corporal involved in Monday morning's shooting at the Double Diamond nightclub in St Andrew was being probed for a similar incident in Manchester.

Gleaner sources say the corporal, whose name is being withheld, was implicated in an incident at a nightclub in Manchester on June 17, 2007.

In that incident, one man was shot during a fracas.

According to the sources, a file on that case was submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for a ruling.

The sources further say police personnel investigating the incident were told by the JDF corporal that he shot the man with his licensed firearm after he was attacked.

It appears that a similar story has been presented to investigators now probing the shooting at Double Diamond nightclub located in the Boulevard Super Centre.

Four persons were killed and five others, including the 31-year-old corporal, were injured in the Double Diamond shooting.

The Bureau of Special Investi-gations and the JDF are probing the incident.

Rage after argument

Several witnesses alleged that the soldier opened fire in rage after an argument with two men who objected to his attempts to dance with a woman.

In the meantime, the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC) yesterday confirmed that the club was operating without the necessary permit.

The club had attracted thousands of patrons since it was opened more than two years ago with pool tournaments, parties and twice-weekly karaoke sessions.

But KSAC Town Clerk, Errol Greene, says the club operated below the KSAC's radar and did not apply for a place-of-amusement licence.

"We normally go after those clubs which advertise, but we have not seen any advertisements including this club," Greene told The Gleaner yesterday.

He said KSAC officials will be visiting the club today or tomorrow for their first look at the facility.

Under law, operators of nightclubs and similar facilities are required to have a place-of-amusement licence, which is granted if the facility meets the standards set by the fire department and the municipal authority.

But with its single entrance also serving as the exit, the Double Diamond nightclub breached at least one of the basic safety rules.

The operators of the club could also find themselves in trouble with the KSAC over recent expansion work.

A recording company has sued Lil' Kim for $2.5 million, saying the Grammy-winning rapper hasn't delivered all the recordings their contract requires.

Brookland Media filed the lawsuit Tuesday in Manhattan's state Supreme Court. Lil' Kim's lawyer, Londell McMillan, says Brookland sued "to leverage their own position" in the contract dispute.

Google Inc. Chief Executive Eric Schmidt will hit the campaign trail this week on behalf of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, signaling Mr. Schmidt's push for a greater voice in politics while giving the Obama campaign a boost from a highly desirable constituency.

Although the Internet-search company has numerous issues pending on Capitol Hill, Mr. Schmidt said in an interview that "I'm doing this personally," adding that "Google is officially neutral" in the campaign.

Mr. Schmidt said his planned endorsement of the Illinois senator is a "natural evolution" from his role as an informal adviser to the Obama campaign.

The Google chief plans to join executives from other technology companies to announce their support for Sen. Obama. Sunday, Sen. Obama received an endorsement from Colin Powell, who was President George W. Bush's first secretary of state.

Congress is considering measures that could have an adverse impact on Google's business, including laws that could limit companies' ability to deliver personally targeted online advertisements and rules that would allow telecommunications companies to charge different prices for different levels of Internet service.

Lawmakers' and regulators' scrutiny of Google, in particular, is intensifying. The company's proposed ad-sharing agreement with Yahoo Inc. triggered a Justice Department probe into whether the deal would give Google too much control over the market and lead to higher prices for online advertisers.

"My sense is, the Justice Department makes judgments on these issues independent of politics," Mr. Schmidt said. "It would be unfair to Justice to imply [that supporting Sen. Obama] would make a difference."

Mr. Schmidt is the latest tech leader to take a more formal role in this year's presidential race. Several such executives advise Republican Sen. John McCain, including former eBay Inc. Chief Executive Meg Whitman, Cisco Systems Inc. Chairman and CEO John Chambers and ousted Hewlett-Packard Co. CEO Carly Fiorina.

Mr. Obama's stances on some issues important to Google remain unclear. Both the candidate and the company, however, have said they support limiting Internet service providers from charging different rates for different levels of service, saying it would be discriminatory and stifle innovation.

Sen. Obama supported such so-called net neutrality before any association with Google in this campaign, co-sponsoring legislation on the issue four years ago. Sen. McCain has said he would rather leave the issue to the market.

Google employees have contributed $487,355 to Sen. Obama's campaign and $20,600 to Sen. McCain's as of Aug. 31. Mr. Schmidt hasn't donated to either.

Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin have leaned liberal in their politics. Mr. Brin recently wrote a post on Google's corporate blog stating the company's opposition to a ballot initiative seeking to eliminate same-sex marriage in California.

Mr. Schmidt's political views have been mixed. He has recently donated more money to Democrats than to Republicans, but spoke at Britain's Conservative Party conference in 2006.

His advice to the Obama campaign has focused on technology and energy issues. He hosted Sens. Obama and McCain for speeches to employees at Google's Mountain View, Calif., headquarters, and Google has funded tech hubs for bloggers at the Democratic and Republican conventions.

On Tuesday, the Google CEO will appear with Sen. Obama at a Florida event, where they will moderate a panel on the economy. Mr. Schmidt said it will be his "first time on the trail."

In conversations with Obama campaign advisers, Mr. Schmidt said, he has advocated policies to improve and broaden technology's reach, including federal research-and-development tax breaks and an increase in science scholarships and teachers.

Mr. Schmidt has been in frequent email contact with Jason Furman, Sen. Obama's economic-policy director, to push for the creation of more jobs in the clean-energy sector. Last summer, Sen. Obama unveiled an energy plan that quoted Mr. Schmidt and proposed five million such jobs, among other measures.

Mr. Schmidt visited Obama's Chicago headquarters earlier this year and met with its tech and new-media team. "Eric was like a celebrity coming through here," said Joe Rospars, Sen. Obama's 27-year-old new-media director.

Asked at a speech this month whether he would consider entering the political arena, the 53-year-old Mr. Schmidt shouted, "H-, no!" But some tech and media executives speculate that he might desire a role in an Obama administration, possibly the chief technology officer post Sen. Obama has said he would create.

"I'm actually very busy running Google," Mr. Schmidt said in the interview.

STRASBOURG, France (AP) -- EU lawmakers have joined U.S. civil liberty campaigners in criticizing a new scanner that allows airport security to see through passengers' clothes, calling it a virtual strip search that should only be used as a last resort.

The new system, which the European Union plans to authorize at the bloc's airports, allows guards to see an outline of passengers' bodies beneath their clothes, making it easier to detect any concealed objects.

It already is being introduced in several U.S. airports and has been tested in other countries around the world, including EU nations such as Britain and the Netherlands.

However, EU officials said it could face a ban if the 27-nation bloc does not include it in a new regulation listing acceptable airport security equipment.

"Many travelers will consider these scanners an enormous intrusion" on their personal privacy, Philip Bradbourn, a British Conservative member of the EU assembly, said Tuesday.

Bradbourn said the technology should not be used routinely on passengers, but could be introduced when suspicions are raised.

"There may be some benefit in having body scanners in our airports, but they should be a last resort and a substitution for a strip search, not a random sample of innocent holiday-makers," he said.

The plans have provoked concern from across the political spectrum, and many EU lawmakers issued statements ahead of Tuesday night's debate about the matter in the European Parliament, which is based in the eastern French city of Strasbourg.

The EU's executive body, the European Commission, says the legislation under consideration would respect safety and privacy rules, adding that passengers who objected could be offered an alternative form of security check.

The American Civil Liberties Union has long campaigned against use of the scanners for routine checking at U.S. airports, saying they should only be used in place of an intrusive search when there is probable cause.

After the machines were introduced at Amsterdam's Schiphol airport last year, officials there said they had few complaints from passengers, saying most approved because lines moved faster.

As celebrity weddings go, it's one of the wackiest (and, er, sweetest) you're ever likely to see.

German pop star Ramma Damma, aka Ulli Hopper, decided to get married to a pineapple.

Picking up his bride for about £8 he wanted one who wasn't cheap he drove her across the Scottish border to Gretna Green in a Jaguar covered in green AstroTurf.

There he and the pineapple which he affectionately named Tippi were wed before returning to his home in Munich.

'We drove through the night it was a fun away wedding, not a runaway wedding,' he said.

'I loved her. I wanted to marry her. We stayed in Gretna Green Hall Hotel and we were married by a craftsman wearing a kilt.

'We enjoyed meals out. We would go to restaurants and she would enjoy a glass of water over dinner.

'Tippi loved to go to the movies especially ones about earthquakes and she would sit on my lap when she got scared.'

Now in case you were wondering why you've never heard of Hopper, this all happened 38 years ago.

But although Tippi has long since departed, the union has borne fruit.

Today, Hopper is known as the Green Rebel in Munich, where he runs the only 'plant sanctuary' in Germany, accommodating 300 indoor plants.

The 65-year-old is almost completely self-sufficient, even making his own stinging nettle spaghetti or brewing plum cider in a 230-litre bin.

'I will defend every plant,' he said. 'They are the wonders of our world we just to need to listen to them.'

****** understands that veteran singer and godfather of rocksteady Alton Ellis is currently battling for life in a London Hospital.

According to our European correspondent the singer was rumoured to have died last night sending shockwaves through the entertainment fraternity but checked our team revealed that he was very much alive. However his conditioned had significantly worsen to the point that he's now being kept alive by a life support system.

Last year October Ellis was diagnosed with cancer of the lymph glands and was undergoing chemotherapy. He eventually made somewhat of a recovery and the treatment was halted.

Since then he has returned to the island for a two show stint before returning to the United Kingdom. Alton Ellis is the uncle of famed comedians Owen 'Blacka' Ellis and Ity of the comedic duo Ity and Fancy Cat.

The Internationally acclaimed Godfather of reggae, the king of Rock Steady. Alton Ellis was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and began his career as a dancer at the age of sixteen. After achieving many awards in this field over a two year period, Alton took an interest in singing.

His debut was as a vocal duo named Alton and Eddy. Their first recording on the Coxsone label, 'Muriel', was a major hit in Jamaican recording history. After Eddy left Jamaica to live in America, Alton formed a group named 'Alton and The Flames'. They recorded a large number of hit songs on the Treasure Isle label, including 'Dance Crashers', Girl I've got a Date', 'Rock Steady' and 'Black Mans Pride'.

After three years with Alton and The Flames, Alton launched his career as a solo artist and joined the 'Studio One Label' in 1967. The amount of hits that Alton created during this period is so enormous that to mention them all would be impossible.

50 Cents Middle East Video Game In Limbo After Merger

50 Cent: *lo** on the Sand, perhaps Rock Dailys most anticipated non-Guitar Hero/Rock Band video game, is suddenly in danger of cancellation after a merger between game maker Activision and Vivendi. Because of an over-saturation of shooting games, plus Activisions desire to retain only those franchises that are a strong fit with our long-term strategy, *lo** on the Sand is in limbo. The game was to feature Fiddy and his G-Unit cronies causing Grand Theft Auto-esque havoc after theyre stranded in an unnamed war-torn Middle East country following a concert. The decrease in interest in 50 Cent might be another factor why Vivendi has opted to bypass a game so close to completion; if this was Lil Wayne: *lo** on the Sand, were sure theyd be rush-releasing this in time for Christmas. *lo** may still get released on its targeted March 31, 2009 release date if it can reach a deal with another publisher.

When Kurt Samuels received a phone call at 5 a.m. on Monday, he had no idea it was someone calling to tell him that two of his closest friends had been killed in an accident.

He immediately went to the scene, and although he could not bring himself to look at the accident, a relative confirmed his worst fears - the victims were in fact his friends and they were dead.

According to reports from the Constabulary Communications liaison officer for St Mary, Corporal Angella McTaggart, Andy Lopez, 20, Shericka Wright, 20, and Jemile Fong-Chung, 22, were killed when the vehicle they were travelling in, slammed into the Rio Nuevo Bridge in St Mary.

Lopez and Fong-Chung were students of the University of the West Indies, where Lopez held the position of cultural and entertainment affairs chairperson (CEAC) on the University's Guild of Students. Fong-Chung, THE STAR was told, was the grandson of a former member of parliament for Western St Mary. He was also the driver of the motor vehicle. Both were final year students, with Lopez pursuing a degree in history and Fong-Chung majoring in sociology.

Slammed into bridge

Police reports are that about 3:30 a.m., on Monday, the motor vehicle in which the victims and one survivor were travelling, was driving along the Rio Nuevo main road, heading towards Oracabessa. The car reportedly drifted too much to the right and collided with a Toyota Corolla, before slamming into the bridge and bursting into flames. All three died on the spot. The lone survivor was rescued by a passer-by and taken to the St Ann's Bay Hospital. He received several burns.

Samuels told THE STAR that he shared a special brotherly bond with the two men, adding that at one point, they had all lived together. He said, "It's very hard. I've known them for over 10 years. Our families are very close. We were all like brothers. I know their families are trying to manage and we're all trying our best to cope."

He described his friends as "outgoing and fun but serious about life" and said they were both "good guys."

Messages left on Lopez's Facebook page, a site for social interaction, are reflections of the grief Samuels and all who knew the deceased are feeling. Several friends expressed shock at the deaths and many seem to be in disbelief. One post read, "Come on now Andy... Nuh duh mi dat... When mi come, mi a expect fi see yuh out a Chancellor front wid u cane ... as usual."

Another said, "Andy talk to mi nuh, mi can't stop bawl ... Andy jus' come knock pon mi office window. Everyday yu do dat, dweet again. I love you and I miss you. R.I.P."

A special vigil in honour of both men is being planned for this week's edition of the weekly Integration Thursdays party, held on the University's Students Union. In his role as CEAC, it was Lopez's responsibility to plan the weekly event.

In what could see a major escalation of tension between Iran and the West, Iranian security forces have announced that they have arrested two pigeons for spying.

The two pigeons were detained in Natanz, near Iran's uranium enrichment facility one of the major sources of the diplomatic chill between Tehran and Western governments.

"Ive been a Beyonce supporter since her early Destinys Child days. Shes a great singer, an equally good performer and maintains her edgy state presence while exhibiting an air of grace and poise offstage. I loved both her two solo albums, Dangerously in Love and BDay, and anxiously await her upcoming release I Am But I cant help but noticeand point out to youthat shes outsourced on both her two new, simultaneously released singles.
 
The first ballad, If I Were a Boy, not to be confused of the Ciara ballad of the same name, is actually a cover of a track by singer-songwriter BC Jean. The second uptempo track, Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It), is ultra catchy and the video, though probably very low-budget, features Beyonce and two backup dancers doing choreography we knew wed seen before and then it hit us. She totally based it on Bob Fosse's "Mexican Breakfast" which became a viral video favorite of ours last summer thanks to a dub-over of DJ Unk's "Walk It Out."

A judge has thrown out a Nebraska legislator's lawsuit against God, saying the Almighty wasn't properly served due to his unlisted home address. State Sen. Ernie Chambers filed the lawsuit last year seeking a permanent injunction against God.

He said God has made terroristic threats against the senator and his constituents in Omaha, inspired fear and caused "widespread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earth's inhabitants."
