FIRE YESTERDAY engulfed the Cool Petroleum Limited fuel depot at Newport West, Kingston, damaging sections of the complex and leaving a worker badly burnt.

Winston Ormsby, the company's general manager of operations, told The Gleaner that the blaze started at 3 p.m. He said a loading rack for trucks, a petroleum tank and an unused building were scorched but the compound was not extensively damaged.

A man contracted to Cool Petroleum sustained extensive burns, especially to his face and lower body. He was admitted to the Kingston Public Hospital but there were no reports on his condition at press time.

Ormsby was unable to say what caused the fire or give an estimate of the damage.

It took several units from the York Park Fire Station to extinguish the blaze.

Cool Petroleum, which has more than 80 outlets, is owned by businessman Joey Issa. Its Newport West station was formerly owned by Shell.

LOS ANGELES

Four police officers were fatally shot and another was wounded in the northern Californian city of Oakland on Saturday. The suspect was later killed by police.

Officials said the perpetrator first opened fire on two motorcycle police officers during a routine traffic stop, killing one and critically wounding the other, who died in hospital on Sunday.

Police launched a manhunt for the man, who shot and killed two more officers before police fatally wounded him.

A wounded officer was treated and released from hospital late Saturday.

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger called the officers deaths tragic, and ordered state flags be flown at half-staff.

News reports said that Schwarzenegger, who was in Washington over the weekend, was on route to Oakland Sunday.

This is a tragic day for law enforcement officers everywhere, he said, adding the slain police had dedicated their lives to public safety and selflessly worked to protect the people of Oakland.

The dead suspect, who was out of prison on parole and who had a long criminal record, was identified by police as Lovelle Mixon, 26.

Authorities said the Oakland officers killed were Mark Dunakin, 40; Ervin Romans, 43; Dan Saki, 35, and John Hege, 41.

Officials said it was the first time an officer in the city was killed in the line of duty in five years.

The shootings triggered a citywide manhunt involving dozens of Oakland police, California Highway Patrol officers and sheriffs deputies for Alameda County.

Eventually, Mixon was tracked down in an apartment building where he was shot and killed by police.

One witness, who did not want to be identified, said he heard gunshots from outside, where he saw two officers laying on the ground.

I went over to one officer and saw he was bleeding from his helmet pretty bad, he said. The other officer was laying motionless.

A bank in Hungary has lost more than Ł20,000 after its armoured truck was rammed by a prison van full of bank robbers.

While firefighters rescued the inmates from the blazing van, bags of cash went missing as they spilled on to the Budapest street.

The prisoners - who were being transported from court to jail - were questioned about the money's disappearance, but all have protested their innocence.

A police spokesman commented: 'The bank remains very suspicious. Of all the vehicles that could have hit their van, it had to be one full of bank robbers.'

Apple and AT&T are being sued (again) for the latter's spotty 3G performance. Macworld has reported:

"Filed in the United States District Court, District of New Jersey, Damone Dickerson claims that Apple misrepresented the speed, strength and performance of the 3G network. The lawsuit claims that he could only connect to the fast 3G network a fraction of the time, and that it did not provide full and continual service. In fact, Dickerson claims that most of the time he receives no 3G connectivity at all.

The lawsuit charges the companies with Negligence, Breach of Express Warranty, Breach of Implied Warranty of Merchantability, Unjust Enrichment, Negligent Misrepresentation, Violation of the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act and Other Similar State Statutes, and Breach of Contract."

Apple And AT&T Sued (Again) Over Allegedly Shoddy 3G Performance

Initially, I wondered why Dickerson didn't just return the phone and cancel his contract during his trial period, but then I remembered that I live in the United States of America, where litigation is king. Keep in mind that there have been multiple lawsuits similar to Dickerson's claim, so he might be a copycat wishing to cash in on AT&T's inconsistent 3G performance.

For you iPhone users in the house, how has AT&T's 3G performance worked for you? Whether it's good or bad, please let me know how it has been and what area you live in. Hopefully this post doesn't inspire anyone to contact their lawyer.

Cops Want To Quiz Ninja...Name him as person of interest in murder yesterday

THE ST ANDREW South Police are seeking popular deejay Ninja Man, real name Desmond Ballentine, for questioning in connection with a murder in the Marl Road area of Kingston 11 yesterday.

Crime chief for the division, Deputy Superintendent Michael Phipps, told THE STAR that Ballentine was a person of interest in the murder of 20-yearold Ricardo Johnson.

According to the Constabulary Communication Network, about 11:15 a.m., Johnson, otherwise called Ricky Trooper, was sweeping his yard in the company of a friend when a grey motor car with three men aboard drove up. BALLENTINES ATTORNEY

An argument reportedly developed between one of the men and Johnsons friend and the car drove off. The vehicle later returned and the occupants opened fire, hitting Johnson. He died at the Kingston Public Hospital.

The police say they have been contacted by Ballentines attorney, who indicated that he would be taken in later today.

Ballentine is the founder of the One Umbrella Movement, a foundation created to promote peace in the Marl Road community. The deejay is known for a recent clash with Merciless at Follow The Arrow on February 28. He is reported to have lost that lyrical battle.

Perverted robbers are on the loose in St Mary, the police have told to THE STAR. As if robbing people is not enough, these thugs are reportedly being very 'touchy' while carrying out their criminal acts. According to the police, both male and female victims of several recent robbery cases related to investigators that they were only a few 'feel' away from being fondled. THE STAR was informed that the victims at first reported that they were just robbed. However after further questioning, they revealed were touched on parts of their bodies. "Over the past few weeks we have had some reports of robberies ... . Initial reports suggest that the victims were just held up and robbed. However, we were afterwards told by the same victims that they were touched up, so to speak ... . It sounds very weird," Inspector John Mullings of the Area Two police related to THE STAR. The police say there have been at least seven such cases over the last three weeks. Victims' underwear During the robbery ordeal, their private parts were felt after the accused thieves raised 'concerns' of items being hidden in victims' underwear. However, the robbers are described to have acted on their concerns too long and thus suggests that there was some 'hidden' reason for those interests. "The victims were told to recount everything that happened throughout the incident and they all claim their privates were touched repeatedly after they were told that they were hiding things in their underwear," Inspector Mullings explained. The police say this was the case for both males and females. In the case of the males, the victims were at first asked if they were hiding a firearm. Inspector Mullings added, "Probably, the men were trying to justify their acts ... . One victim I had a chance to speak with said his robber remarked to him dat nuff a unnu bway a hide gun inna unnu undapants eno so mi haffi check." As for the women, they were asked if they were concealing money. Meanwhile, the police say as their investigations progress if these men are caught, sexually related charges could be also laid against them.

Rae Town faces the music

March 23, 2009
Started By STUWY776 Comments

Rae Town, the central Kingston fishing village renowned for rootsy reggae dances and informal dining delights, is a lot quieter nowadays. But an undercurrent of discontent is rumbling.

The economic and social reper-cussions of the enforcement of the Noise Abatement Act against the popular Sunday night old-hits sessions are beginning to resonate.

The police clampdown has sliced into business profits, say merchants, and the action is fomenting fury.

"Everybody inherit from it, people from all Village Farm, all 'bout, come to this community to mek money," said Kevin, one of several business interests who refused to share their full name with the press.

"Me park the car dem out deh, and without the old-hits session, me cyaah park no car. Everybody hustle a food."

For decades, the sessions went on in contravention of the law, but for the last several months, the operators have had to adhere to legislation which bans music events beyond 2 a.m.

"It nah disturb no one, it nah disturb (Manley) Meadows, it nah disturb Rae Town citizen dem," said Kevin, a 26-year-old father of three.

"When you come to Rae Town Old Hits, there is no crime, nobody not doing you anyt'ing ... . It send me to school."

The sessions have been hosted from before Kevin was born. Claiming he didn't enjoy a "big education", Kevin feels like a fish out of water, as the sessions are now held every two weeks. As a result, he said he has suffered a significant shortfall in earnings.

More criticism

His lament was supported by Latoya, a fish vendor and old-hits hustler. Latoya, who also declined to give her full name, could not hold back criticism.

"Mi get mi tea, lunch and dinner a Old Hits. More Old Hits, we want it every week. A Old Hits my son get him lunch money from. Yeah, a out deh my mother sell," said the bottle collector.

Nalda, 39, and mother of four, is another 'victim' of the enforcement. She argued that the musical event formed the basis of bread-and-butter issues such as schooling her children, and kept alive the vibe of the low-income community.

"No war nuh gwaan yah so when Old Hits time. A nuff people vex how it just die out like that," she explained, pointing to some of the children who had no lunch money to go to school. Narda said she has been going to Old Hits since she was a little girl.

As the discussion heated up in the community, up walked a woman who called herself 'Ginger Charmaine', with a cup of liquor in her hand. "It nice, all now mi nuh work yet, I earn off o' Old Hits by dancing ... Mi sell mi fish too," said Charmaine, who is now currently unemployed.

Rae Town is a community bereft of social amenities and employment opportunities. Fishing is the major source of income, but not everyone can be a fisherman. Incomes are supplemented by activities associated with the old-hits sessions. Much of the money earned at the sessions is used to buy fish for resale, while some is used by fishermen to buy gas for their boats.

Now, some are saying they are stranded on the beach. But Kevin is concerned that with the crackdown on sessions, youths - with negligible education and skills - will turn to crime.

Linstead mob kills man

Angry residents of Treadways in Linstead, St Catherine chased, caught and subsequently hacked a man to death after he was reportedly tried to break into a shop yesterday. The dead man has been identified as Gary Rhoden, otherwise called 'Tommy', of Deeside, also in Linstead. According to police reports, about 4 a.m., residents caught Rhoden red-handed while he was breaking into a shop in the community and raised an alarm. Fake cop quizzed

Twenty-three-year-old fake cop, Courtney Grayson, yesterday underwent gruelling questioning from the anti-corruption unit regarding how he successfully breached security at the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) over the last six months.

Grayson was handed over to the anti-corruption branch last weekend, the unit's head, Justin Felice, told The Gleaner.

"Owing to the seriousness of the breach, we felt we needed to have an independent body outside of the division investigate the case," Assistant Commissioner of Police Denver Frater confirmed yesterday.

Self-assigned

Grayson, who assigned himself to the Mount Salem Police Station during his approximately 182-day stint with the force, was arrested on March 8 and charged with impersonating a policeman and unlawful possession of property. The police found a JCF metal badge, blue-denim uniform and a pair of c****at boots during a search of his home in the volatile Hendon, Norwood, community where he resides with his girlfriend.

Grayson's cover was blown after persons became suspicious of him and called the police who swooped down on him and subsequently found that he had been operating as a policeman for months.

As a bartender and trainer at a national restaurant chain, Rebecca Brown earned a couple thousand dollars in a really good week. Now, as a dancer at Chicagos Pink Monkey gentlemans club, she makes almost that much in one good night.

The tough job market is prompting a growing number of women across the country to dance in strip clubs, appear in adult movies or pose for magazines like Hustler.

STRIP CLUB HOLDS JOB FAIR

Employers across the adult entertainment industry say theyre seeing an influx of applications from women who, like Brown, are attracted by the promise of flexible schedules and fast cash. Many have college degrees and held white-collar jobs until the economy soured.

Youre seeing a lot more beautiful women who are eligible to do so many other things, said Gus Poulos, general manager of New York Citys Sin City gentlemans club. He said he got 85 responses in just one day to a recent job posting on Craigslist.

The transition to the nightclub scene isnt always a smooth one - from learning to dance in five-inch heels to dealing with the jeers of some customers.

Some performers said they were initially so nervous that only alcohol could calm their nerves.

It is like giving a speech, but instead of imagining everyone naked, youre the one whos naked, Brown, 29, said.

Eva Stone, a 25-year-old dancer at the Pink Monkey, said dealing with occasional verbal abuse from patrons requires a thick skin.

OPINION: DEADBEAT DADS CREATE STRIPPERS OF TOMORROW

Makers of adult films cautioned that women shouldnt rush into the decision to make adult movies without considering the effect on their lives.

Once you decide to be an adult actress, it impacts your relationship with everyone, said Steven Hirsch, co-chairman of adult film giant Vivid Entertainment Group. Once you make an adult film, it never goes away.

The women at the Pink Monkey say dancing at a strip club might not have been their first career choice, but they entered the business with their eyes wide open. The job gives them more control and flexibility than sitting in a cubicle, and its easy, its fun and all of us girls look out for each other, Brown said.

In this economy, desperate measures are becoming far more acceptable, said Jonathan Alpert, a New York City-based psychotherapist whos had clients who worked in adult entertainment.

For some, dancing is temporary, a way to pay for college loans or other bills. Others say theyve found their niche.

Dancers at the upscale Ricks Caberet clubs in New York City and Miami can make $100,000 to $300,000 a year - in cash - even with the economic downturn, club spokesman Allan Priaulx said.

Priaulx said 20 to 30 women a week are applying for jobs at the New York club, double the number of a year ago.

Rhode Islands Foxy Lady held a job fair Saturday, seeking to fill about 35 positions for dancers, masseuses, bartenders and bouncers. The Providence Journal reported that more than 150 job seekers showed up to apply for work at the strip club. Foxy Lady co-owner Tom Tsoumas said a recent promotion to cut prices helped the club regain business lost due to the bad economy, forcing it to hire more employees.

Still, analysts say, the industry isnt immune to the economic recession. Business is down an estimated 30 percent across all segments, including adult films, gentlemans clubs, magazines and novelty shops, said Paul Fishbein, president of AVN Media Network, an adult entertainment company that has a widely distributed trade publication and an award show.

In the past, people have said this industry is recession-proof, said Eric Wold, director of research for financial services firm Merriman Curhan Ford. I definitely dont see thatmaybe recession-resistant.

Strip club dancers and managers said theyre drawing in the same number of customers, but fewer high rollers.

Theyre not getting the big spenders, said Angelina Spencer, executive director of the Association of Club Executives, a trade group for adult nightclubs. Theyre not getting the guys who come in and drop $3,000 to $4,000 a night anymore.

Still, the clubs operating structure leaves them with low overhead and profit margins of up to 50 percent, Wold said.

Dancers are independent contractors, paying clubs a nightly flat fee depending on how long they work. At the Pink Monkey, for example, dancers who arrive at 7 p.m. Sunday through Thursday pay a $40 house fee, while women who dont arrive until midnight pay $90. And they keep their tips.

Wold and others say its almost impossible to estimate the size of the adult entertainment industry because few companies are publicly traded. He does pay close attention to three that are: Lakewood, Colo.-based VCG Holding and Houston-based Ricks Caberet, which own clubs, and New Frontier Media, a Boulder, Colo.-based adult film producer and distributor.

All three are profitable.

Ricks Caberet had $60 million in revenue in its 2008 fiscal year, up from $32 million the year before, Wold said, and he estimates VCG will have $57 million for last year, compared with $40.5 million in FY2007. New Frontier Media generates more than $400 million in consumer buying a year.

Larry Flynt, whose half-billion dollar Hustler empire publishes magazines, produces and distributes films and operates a casino, said hes continued to do well. But he doesnt expect those who are solely in the film business to survive.

A lot of the small studios are out of business now, theres no doubt about that, Flynt said.

Adult magazines also are struggling along with the larger publishing industry, and have to cut pages like everyone else.

But the economic realities arent keeping jobseekers away.

Vivid Entertainments Hirsch said the number of women in his business has doubled in the last couple years, with roughly 800 working as adult actresses. It is more competitive than Ive seen it in 25 years, he said.

That doesnt mean all the newcomers are planning on lengthy careers in the industry.

Stone, who has a bachelors degree in graphic design, took up dancing four years ago to help pay her student loans. She plans to go to graduate school this year to pursue a masters in education.

Brown, meanwhile, has a ready answer for those critical of her career choice.

I have job security, she said.

According to TMZ.com, Badu used Twitter to update fans that police just apprehended a stalker in front of my house. Stay tuned to details.

The singer said that the stalker, a woman, had been outside of her house numerous times, and that she had several misc. items spread out in the gra**. Blue shutters, a rabbit, a tucan and a sketch book.

The stalker was pepper sprayed and cuffed by officers, and the ensuing police report that Badu filled out apparently made the singer late for her performance.

When times are tough, the Salvation Army is normally around to lend a helping hand.

Now that the number of persons facing tough times has increased, it's the Salvation Army that needs help.

It makes sense after all; the economy takes a nosedive and everybody tightens up on spending. In tough times, people are also less inclined to make charitable donations.

However, that's where John Williamson, an executive director at the Salvation Army, comes in.

The preliminary inquiry for police Superintendent Yvonne Martin-Daley, who has been charged with vehicular manslaughter of a policeman, will start on April 30.

When the case came up for mention in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court last Thursday, Clerk of the Court Floyd McNab said the Crown would be ready to proceed on the new date.

Defence attorney Anthony Pearson asked for the case to be dismissed, saying his client had suffered financially - her pay has been cut by a quarter - while on interdiction.

McNab, however, argued that an alleged eyewitness for the accused was not credible as he was related to Martin-Daley.

The incident

Facts of the case are that about 7:30 a.m. on July 15, 2008, Constable Mark Needham of the Motorised Patrol Division was travelling in an easterly direction along the Spanish Town Bypass in St Catherine.

Upon reaching the vicinity of the Matrix Ice Company, the super-intendent, who was driving a Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV in the same direction, made a U-turn. Needham's motorcycle collided with Martin-Daley's vehicle. He died on the spot.

A file was sent to the director of public prosecutions and Martin-Daley was subsequently charged with vehicular manslaughter. She has maintained her innocence in court appearances.

Health scheme for prison staff

March 24, 2009
Started By Garrick0 Comments
National Security Minister Colonel Trevor MacMillan has lauded a partnership forged between prison officials and the trade unions to establish a health scheme.

Addressing a gathering at the second staging of the Department of Correctional Services annual Wellness Programme at the Spanish Town Prison Oval last Thursday, the minister said the time had come for groups to invest in their health, as it was critical to financial well-being.

"It was a very good partnership that the trade unions had put forward to the correctional department. This was done also through the efforts of the former commissioner, Major Richard Reese," said MacMillan.

Acting Commissioner of Corrections June Spence-Jarrett said the health scheme, which covers correctional and probation officers, and probation after-care officers, applies to immediate relatives as well.

Your health

"With the Pan American Health Organisation projecting that in the next 20 years the death rates for preventable illnesses will increase threefold, we think that working on your health is very important," Spence-Jarrett said.

Observations of personnel not adequately preserving their health, said the corrections chief, influenced the formation of a committee to drive policy.

Spence-Jarrett declined to state the cost of the scheme.

Deputy Group president of Capital and Credit Financial Group (CCFG), Andrew c**king, is encouraging students of the Excelsior High School to work hard at their academics in order to achieve success, in spite of the hardship some may face.

Mr c**king is urging the students not to worry about the funding for their future academic studies and to take advantage of the Students' Loans Bureau (SLB) and the support from their parents and guardians.

Scholarship

Each person, he says, should also focus on working hard to better equip themselves for opportunities through scholarship or employment. The SLB chairman and past student of Excelsior High, shared these thoughts with the students during morning devotion on Monday, March 23, at the school.

He said his refusal to give up and his determination to succeed academically has resulted in his becoming one of the co-founders of CCFG, among holding other prominent offices. He also credited the late A. W. Powell, founder of Excelsior, for giving him a second chance and his very supportive parents.

In their quest to fight and win popular traditional lyrical wars, dancehall artists and their advisors have forgotten to consult the laws in Jamaica that determine what the legal boundaries and rights are for such warriors.

To the surprise of the genres two verbal hot shots, Vybz Kartel and Mavado, it has been reported that police are not only considering filing charges following the 25th anniversary of STING, they have video evidence to support their claims and will definitely be pursuing said charges. According to The Star, crime chief, Detective acting Deputy Superintendent Carl Malcolm said, "Having viewed the tape [of the event], we are now in the process of going full fledge at pursuing charges against Mr Palmer and Mr Brooks and any other entertainer who we find in breach of the act.

The act referred to by the acting Deputy Superintendent is the Town and Communities Act legislated to protect citizens of Jamaica from exposure to profanity and threatening words in particularly the public arena. Kartel and Mavado whose real names are Adidjah Palmer and David Brooks respectively are not the only ones being scrutinized on the videotape. Police are interested in all persons deemed to have violated the law while performing on the STING stage at Jamworld in Portmore last Friday.

STING was for the most part incident free and there was a massive presence of security and law enforcement there.

Police are not disclosing their timeline for the laying of charges, but they have revealed that it all depends on when their videotape reviewing process has been completed.

Dancehall artists in particular are being urged to remember that even though they think only sticks and stones will break bones, words do also act as weapons, attacking, discouraging and influencing minds. And legislators who work for the Jamaican people arent having it not in public anyway.

Aidonia3.jpgFirst off, the artiste made it clear that he has not joined the Vybz Kartel-led Portmore Empire but is close with the group, Yuh know seh mi seh Addi ah mi daddy long tim so JOP (Jag One Productions)  and Empire have an understanding so wi nuh join Empire, man from JOP and Empire par, said

When asked about him being so close with the Empire which is home to Deva Brat who made a couple tracks dissing him he said, Dat done wid from long time, if yuh realize mi neva voice nuh song fi counteract him.

But what else has Aidonia been up to?

Aidonia recently did a counteraction to a collaboration of Munga Honourable and long-time rival Busy Signal where they targeted him and the Big Ship family.

A Few line of the song had Munga made a direct hit at the Big Ship:
But David House respect distinct
When me buss my gun dem Ship sink
Cause dem badmind tru a my song dem girlfriend listening

In Aidonias response, the intro has a clip of one of Mungas line:
Yo, No nonsense, no chat, no pree
Mungas clip: When mi buss my gum dem Ship sink
Wah di f#ck do dem?
Stephen di boss
Leff dem innah a pit a stink
Dem vex tru me and Stephen wah build some hit a link
How di f#ck dem fi talk bout Ship a sink, No nonsense

Part of the reason for fans not hearing Aidonia is due to the selectors playing their friends music and the radio DJs getting paid to play songs. Di selectors dem a highlight dem friends wid dem stupid song, and di people grab on to them cause di people wah hear music so wah dem hear dem jus work wid. But the one song deh mi drop ah hurt dem head. He said

Nuff ah di man dem wah did ah fight mi ah get back innah di ting and a play mi music, dem see wah gwaan and a start play Aidonia, nuff a dem see wah gwaan and see seh dem cyah fight mi.

The artiste explains that his fans can expect crazy new things from him throughout the summer and closed the interview with the line, No nonsense.

Popular dancer, Wayne 'Colo Colo' Stewart and his girlfriend were left nursing wounds after being brutally attacked by a group of men during a video shoot.

The incident, which took place on Wednesday night in Half-Way Tree, has left the creator of the 'Rum Ram' dance in great concern.

"Me jus a gwaan whole it ennuh. Right now a jail me waa dem fi go," he said.

It was alleged that Stewart and his girlfriend, Lisa Brown, were taking part in a dance documentary on hip hop and reggae on Half-Way Tree Road on Wednesday night when they were attacked by a group of bus conductors.

Fierce altercation

Stewart said the men approached them and demanded to be in the video shoot that was taking place. However, it was said that a fierce altercation then developed between Stewart's girlfriend and the men.

The men subsequently drove away and later returned with weapons which were used to inflict wounds on Stewart, who managed to escape to the nearby police station.

Stewart said he reported the incident at the Half-Way Tree Police Station and was given a piece of paper by one of the lawmen to receive medical attention at the Kingston Public Hospital, downtown Kingston.

Efforts to contacted the investigating officer proved futile, as the officer was said to be off duty. Stewart said he can remember his attackers and only wants justice.

"Di man dem av me up, me know di whole a dem. A regular dem do things like dat. Mi inna pain and my girlfriend get a buss mouth too," he said.

*lo**SHOT EYES and a gold, green and black T-shirt with 'Jamaica Mi Born' are legacies of Ann-Marie Vaz's latest West Portland sojourn. Three days before today's by-election, the wife of Jamaica Labour Party candidate Daryl Vaz was eager for the end.

"It's been exhausting for me as a wife and mother. To see what my husband has been through to prove his passion for the constituency has been emotionally draining," she told The Gleaner at her home in the upscale St Andrew neighbourhood of Cherry Gardens.

For the second time in 18 months, Daryl Vaz will run for the West Portland seat. His opponents are the People's National Party's (PNP) Kenneth Rowe and Ras Astor Black, an independent.

A lengthy legal battle waged by the PNP through Abe Dabdoub resulted in a by-election. Dabdoub was Vaz's opponent in West Portland for the September 2007 general election, which Vaz won by 944 votes.

The appeal court upheld the chief justice's decision in February.

Union threatened

Ann-Marie is Daryl Vaz's second wife; they married 10 months after meeting at a party and celebrated their seventh anniversary in December. She says his decision to get back into politics after a break in the 1990s threatened the union.

"I never wanted anything to do with politics. It caused a lot of damage to our marriage initially," she said.

While not expanding on that 'damage', Vaz said, she has settled into the role of a politician's wife, and believes her husband has done enough for voters in West Portland to give him another win.

"The people there recognise and appreciate the work he has been doing. The feeling is that 'This man is working, let's give him a chance'," she said.

Daryl Vaz is one of the most explosive personalities in Jamaican politics. His stay in West Portland has not been without incident. His wife witnessed an ugly scene between him and police in the constituency during a rally celebrating the JLP's local government election victory in December 2007.

"I've always known of his persona and things that people said. Those are things I won't get into," she said.

There was no political tension in the district of Duff House, Manchester, where Ann-Marie Lyew was born 43 years ago. The eldest of five children, she attended Hampton School in St Elizabeth and moved to Kingston in her late teens to attend Alpha Academy.

She has a teenage son and 12-year-old daughter from a previous relationship. Her marriage to Daryl Vaz has produced a daughter, Victoria, now six.

Analysts are predicting a tight contest in West Portland, though most give the c****ative Vaz the advantage. Ann-Marie Vaz expects her husband to win, but says she will welcome the result either way.

"When it's over, we can finally get back to running the country's business. The only 'P' I want to hear about after Monday is people," she said.

THE COUNTRY'S two major political parties are confident that rainy weather affecting West Portland will not influence voter turnout in today's by-election, which could significantly shift the balance of political power.

Already the parish has been drenched and the Meteorological Service has said it expects "cloudy conditions with on-and-off showers" to continue throughout today.

The Jamaica Labour Party's (JLP) Daryl Vaz is nominated to contest the seat against the People's National Party's (PNP) Kenneth Rowe. Long-shot contender Astor Black of the New Jamaica Alliance is also in the race.

Vaz told The Gleaner yesterday that showers will not bother Portlanders.

"Portland is accustomed to rain. Surely, the rain will delay the vote but I don't think it will affect the turnout," Vaz said yesterday.

Luther Buchanan, Rowe's campaign manager, echoed his sentiment.

"The people of Portland are accustomed to these weather patterns and our workers are so geared to work in these conditions," said Buchanan.

Well-placed PNP sources have said that the party expects Rowe to win by 275 votes.

Vaz hopeful

However, Vaz is adamant that he will be returned as MP after today's poll.

"I am still predicting a margin of more than 2,000 votes for sure and I would definitely be disappointed if I get less than that," Vaz told The Gleaner.

Vaz polled 6,799 votes in September 2007 general election to the PNP's Abe Dabdoub's 6,033 votes for a victory margin of 944.

"Tomorrow, it is going to be Vaz vs Simpson Miller, Labour Party vs PNP and they are going to lose again," Vaz said yesterday.

Both JLP and PNP suffered major setbacks Saturday night as their campaign rallies held at Buff Bay and Hope Bay, respectively, were washed out by torrential rain.

PNP President Portia Simpson Miller nonetheless rallied the troops.

"This shower is a blessing," said Simpson Miller. "Tomorrow ,we are going to secure victory at the polls and wash the JLP out of West Portland."

Good to go

Exactly 18,723 voters are eligible to vote in today's by-election at 99 polling stations.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) has said all is in place for today's exercise.

"It is all systems go," Orrette Fisher, the director of elections, told The Gleaner.

Fisher said the rain could pose a challenge in getting equipment into some areas of the constituency. He also said the weather could influence the time by which the EOJ will be able to declare the seat, but noted that Jamaicans should know the results by the latest 9 p.m.

Meanwhile, the PNP yesterday urged the Government to suspend any planned roadwork in West Portland today.

According to the PNP, it has been informed that the JLP "plans to undertake roadwork in the constituency tomorrow and that these works will be concentrated in areas that are strongly supportive of the People's National Party and will be used to disrupt the smooth flow of vehicular traffic, thus hindering or inhibiting persons from being transported to vote on election day."

Attempts to contact Transport Minister Mike Henry for a response proved futile up to press time last night.

The JLP has 31 seats to the PNP's 28 in the 60-seat Parliament.

A heavy detachment of police and soldiers has taken up positions in various communities to quell the likelihood of any last-minute conflicts among rival supporters.

Mavado Rips The B.E.T Runway Dancehall bad boy David 'Mavado' Brooks is definitely in full throttle mode as the release of his second album 'Mr. Brook - A Better Tomorrow' approaches. Last Saturday (Feb.21st) while in the Big Apple the Gangsta was one of the specially invited performers at the highly publicised BET Rip The Runway 2009 fashion event held at the Hammerstein Ballroom, New York and indeed the singjay did not disappoint. Hosted by rapper Nelly and actress Lauren London, and executive produced this year by Diddy, the excitement of this year's Rip The Runway was amazing. Full of exclusive performances, celebrity models, designer fashions, and bangin' music. This year's show featured the newest designs from fashion lines such as Sean John, Apple Bottom, Amaya Swimwear, Respect M.E., Zac Posen, and more. Even Snoop Dogg got his fashion on, when he debuted his line as well as that of his wife. Celebrity models who strutted their stuff included Toccara, Charli Baltimore, 106 & Park's Terrence J. and Rocsi, America's Next Top Model winner Jaslene Gonzalez, The Wire's Lil Snoop, host Lauren London and more. Once again, the event featured plus-sized models, but Toccara almost didn't fit as the BET host showed up with a much slimmer figure. Other performers includes Nelly, Flo-Rida, Missy Elliot, T-Pain, N.E.R.D., Webbie, Trey Songz, Ron Browz, Busta Rhymes, The Dream, Fabolous, Keri Hilson, T.I. and last but by no means least Snoop Dogg We have embedded a video snippet from the event for your viewing pleasure (see player below)

artist-photo.jsp?art_id=185One song might be the spark that could lead to the official reunion of the Scare Dem Crew, one of dancehall's hottest groups of the 1990s.

Some members have already said that they have been bombarded with requests from fans who have heard a recent single entitled Gully An Di Garrison which was recorded by Boomdandimite, Nittie Kutchie and Harry Toddler.

"From wi do da song yah, is like people nuh stop call wi an a ask if Scare Dem nah come back together," Kutchie said in an interview with THE WEEKEND STAR.

But are the former members of the Scare Dem Crew ready to take on such a mammoth task? Some say yes, others are uncertain.

"Wi ready fi it," said Boom-dandimite.

"Di people dem like dah current deh. Scare Dem was a big ting, cause mi guh all America fi two years an mi a tell somebody sey me name Boomdandimite an dem a sey 'Who dat again', an mi sey 'From Scare Dem' an dem a sey 'Oh yeah'," he recalled.

Well received

Boomdandimite also said that the single they recorded recently was also well received and that was encouraging.

"Wi do a tune weh name Gully An Di Garrison dat a wid me, Toddler an Kutchie. A da song deh wi a premier yah now. Last night (Wednesday) G-Fuss play it a Stone Love an people a compliment it an a seh dem like di riddim an everything," he said.

Well, so far, all with the exception of Elephant Man appears to be interested in a full out Scare Dem reunion.

"Mi an every man a fren, but mi nuh really deh pon di Scare Dem reunion, but if mi fi represent pon one a di song dem, mi wi do dat, but if Scare Dem fi guh back it a guh look like a joke ting, cause every man did have dem solo career going," Ele said.

Adding, "Dem time deh wi did young, but fi four big man start run up an down again, talk bout dem a crew, dat would a look a way. Me an Kutchie an di man dem a brethren suh fi put song pon record an write hit song together an dem ting deh, mi wi do dat, cause mi cyan figget weh mi a come from."

Well, members like Boomdandimite and Nitty Kutchie say they can appreciate why Ele might not be interested in a Scare Dem reunion.

"Elephant reach di peak yah now, suh di one ting him coulda do a sing two song wid Scare Dem. Him done build a strength as Elephant Man an wi nah tek dat from him, suh wi jus hope sey him sey him wi get involved to an mek him fren dem eat a food to," Boomdandimite said.

"Even though Scare Dem split 'bout seven years now, wi always link as brethren an hold a vibe an party same way," added Nitty Kutchie.

This might be contrary to what persons believe, as it was reported that the Scare Dem Crew had split because of a disagreement over money.

But as Kutchie explained, " Di original split was due to hype an misunderstanding an certain things did blow out a control. Wi a yout dem time deh an hype get ova wi."

However, Kutchie says he is not ruling out any possibilities.
I dont know why all the sudden flare up bout post counts... Mine use to decrease on Rapid, me hit out against it yes.. BUT after really thinking bout it... Patrons, fans and others who have seen deejay Spice in performance recently, have all been asking the same question: Is she pregnant? Well the answer is yes! In a telephone interview, Spice admitted to being pregnant, but was tight-lipped about it, as she said, "mi nuh ready fi talk bout it yet." She would not name the father of her child or say whether he was involved in the music industry. According to Spice, real name Grace Hamilton, "the only reason why some people know already a because dem si mi a show, cause mi nah tek no break, mi still a do show." It is still work as usual for Spice, as she says, "mi jus a come from Baltimore, me and Lady Saw in concert and mi on mi way to New York and I will be back in Jamaica next week." This will be the first childbearing experience for Spice and she says she is keeping close tabs with her doctor. "Mi a go up (abroad) guh talk to mi doctor, but I guess I'm in my first trimester," Spice said. In the meantime, Spice says her recent singles are still doing quite well. "Di latest song mi have a Talk, it a gwaan good so far, people a feel dat an mi have a next tune pon Sunshine rhythm weh a gwaan good to," Spice said. Spice is the most recent deejay to become an expectant mother. D'Angel recently gave birth to her son late last year.

Ninja Man charged with murder

Saturday, March 21, 2009

CONTROVERSIAL dancehall artiste Desmond Ballentine, better known as Ninja Man, was yesterday charged with Monday's gun slaying of a man on Marl Road in Kingston.

Head of the Major Investigations Task force (MIT), Assistant Police Commissioner Les Green, said Ballentine was charged with murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of a firearm.

"He was questioned this afternoon and as a result of that interview the charges were laid," Green told the Observer last night. The police, he added, had a "good" case against Ballentine.

In the meantime, Superintendent Selvin Hay, also of the MIT, said that the police would continue their hunt for two other men implicated in the murder.

Ninja Interrogated & Charged

findImg.php?pic_size=200&table_name=news_img_tab&table_field=img_id&img_id=2283 Popular dancehall entertainer, Ninja Man whose real name is Desmond Ballentine was yesterday charged with conspiracy to murder and shooting with intent.

When 876radio.com  contacted the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) a senior investigator advised that the deejay was charged Friday evening after being interrogated in connection with the murder of Ricardo Johnson, 20, otherwise known as "Ricky Trooper".

Mr. Johnson was killed Monday at his house in Olympic Gardens in Kingston, allegedly by one of three men who were travelling in a motor car.

Ninja Man surrendered to the police Thursday afternoon in the presence of his lawyer after initially denying the allegations that he was involved in the crime.

According to the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) It is reported that at approximately 11:15am Tuesday morning three men in a grey motor car drove up to the home of Johnson aka 'Ricky Trooper' (not the sound system selector) where an argument developed that turned into an altercation. The vehicle then drove off and returned later where the occupants alighted and opened fire, hitting Johnson. He was rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Mavado Featured In L.A.
Times

mavado_sm1.jpg Dancehall deejay Mavado sings about being 'On The Go'
and he certainly is, the entertainer who only days ago released his sophomore
album is once again the focus of Jamaican music with a feature in the latest
edition of the Los Angeles Times (L.A. Times).

The article
which describes Mavado as a 'Special' brand of dancehall justice' speaks
about his journey to the top encompassing the accolades and the major cross over
success of his hit single "So Special" produced by T.J Records.

We have
embedded a copy of the publication below for your viewing pleasure.

"Bailed-out bankers should be thankful that the Jamaican dancehall
singer Mavado doesn't run U.S. economic policy. On his latest single, 'So
Special,' one of the rare dancehall records to spend time on recent Billboard
Hot 100 R&B/Hip-Hop charts, he paints himself as an avenging angel of the
poor and dispossessed. 'Fire it 'til wet pon dat / you betta help poor people'
he wails over a minimalist stutter-step beat. 'Every dirty work, Jah shall show
dem a sign, ' perhaps one where the 'special' is of the .45 variety he mentions
in the song.

That sort of lyrical world - one where violence is an appealing way out of
an intractable life -- has made Mavado one of the most riveting and
controversial Jamaican artists today. He's caught the ears of Jay-Z, who made
his reggae debut on a remix of Mavado's 'On the Rock,' as well as the U.S., U.K.
and various Caribbean governments who denied Mavado visas based on Jamaican gun
charges (which were eventually tossed out).

His neighborhood and lyrical visions are dark places, but Mavado doesn't
want you to confuse them for his heart.

'Governments don't know me as an artist,' he said. 'There are people in
the media (that spread rumors) but it's just not reality.'

Reality has changed significantly for Mavado during the four years he's
been growing into a figurehead in one of the most compelling city-scenes in
music. He grew up in Kingston's Cassava Piece neighborhood, one of its most
notorious and crime-ridden areas. Yet he's led a revitalized wave of dancehall
artists including Busy Signal and Vybz Cartel (and young producers such as
Stephen McGregor) into a sound that pairs the mournful-thug lyricism of classic
U.S. hip-hop with icy synthesizers and rueful vocal melodies. His breakout
album, the 2007 deb't 'Gangsta for Life 'The Symphony of David Brooks' was
apocalyptic in its vision, matched by his 'full black' wardrobe and the
otherworldly, wrathful timbre of his tenor that falls somewhere between rapping,
singing and funereal lament.

But as his star grew locally (everything he touches is a chip-shot to top
the Jamaican charts) and inevitable talk of crossover grew, his followup 'Mr.
Brooks' A Better Tomorrow," which came out in the U.S. on Tuesday, lightened up
a bit. 'So Blessed 'dips into almost gospel territory, and the lascivious
double-entendre fest 'In Di Car Back' is a cheerfully racy club banger. Even the
boasts like 'On the Rock' and 'Real Killer' have something of a playfulness
about them, like Mavado knows he's winning whatever fight he's in.

It might be a pitch to finally break dancehall into the U.S. mainstream,
or simply a reflection of a better mood given his recent success -- either way,
it's working. Mavado sees his Jay-Z collaboration as less a ticket to ingratiate
himself to U.S. hip-hop than a way to introduce the new class of dancehall to
new fans.

'This will let a lot of people in the U.S. know about dancehall, ' Mavado
said. 'It's Jay-Z on a Mavado track, he can break Mavado to a wide audience. But
I'm a dancehall artist.'

So much talk about reggae centers around U.S. crossover potential, and
while it certainly couldn't hurt Mavado, who will play L.A. in May, to a point
it doesn't matter. The Jamaican and Caribbean diaspora ensures a fevered
response in cities around the globe that localized hip-hop artists would trade a
Maybach for. And, like so many artists in the U.S. and around the world, he's
already weighed in on the rap lyrical topic du jour: the merits of our new
President, with an 'On the Rock' remix titled 'We Need Barack.'

'Obama shows that black people can be whatever they want to be,' he said.
'To go from Martin Luther King to Obama, it makes the community proud."

Here is a copy of Mavado's interview with New York's HOT 97 Angie Martinez
(see player below)

Yes, people, mi never reach in till 6 this morning cause me and ace photographer Nicketa Thomas, go Asylum after mi go DAngel party. Mek me tell yu dis, DAngels party was hype but a bit boring but Asylum was amped to the extreme, big up all mi new money friends. But one skettel go spoil the vibes, me and this batter ears gal kick off because she ah drop word bout mi babyfather and mi did almost lick her inna her face wid mi HQ bottle, but yu nuh waan hear about that, New York, right? Come mek me tell yu what the whole ah Jamaica ah talk bout first.
Big up girls like Racquel, Spanish Town, Rew, Cotton Candy, Out and Bad and the whole entourage. Run the report

Dangel_Birthday.jpgThe décor of DAngels party at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel was sophisticated to the tenth power. First, even before you went upstairs, you were greeted with white balloons, yard of white shimmer and gold glitter, very cute. And you could see that she had shelled out some major bucks on the décor inside. I really loved the glass table, very sophisticated, and she was placed on a stool close to a long runway in the middle of the floor space. SOME PICS ADDED, CLICK HERE

How DAngel so hype though? She had her dress from last year hung up as part of the backdrop to the runway, and her shoes that she wore last year were also placed on a pedestal. Real hype ting.

Big up the black dress crew which was the safe choice on this night, people like Stacious, Macka Diamond, Sophia Brown and Lena British. Junie Platinum had on a nice dress as well. The man dem did ah go hard still, mi nah lie, dem suit tek the place, at one point, is like dem outshine the woman dem. Nico Bam Bam, Christopher Martin and Delly Ranx did ah go hard.

Not much happened as people seemed content to just stand and lyme. Singing Melody sang to her but not many people delivered toasts to the birthday girl. The party lacked panache and what the French call, the va va voom factor in terms of surprises or excitement.

ANGEL'S SISTERS LOVED THE KILLER TUNE
The selector was a bit lame, in fact he was so lame, we never bothered to get his name for this article, and he played a lot of Beenie Mans girl songs all throughout the night. Interestingly, one of the biggest reactions of an otherwise eventless night, was when the selector played Killers Nutten No Change (remember she was dancing to this song last year while with Beenie Man) and DAngels sisters seemed particularly delighted by this song and they danced and carried on.

It was clear that a lot of the females there either had not read the invitation, or, understandably, did not have the money to dress up; it all made for a confused dress code. They wore some normal dresses, but they paled in comparison to the hottest girls in the party. The top five were: Jody, Ms. P the businesswoman from Ocho Rios, Tameka Reynolds from Free People Entertainment (inna one hot brown dress that look like it cost at least $75,000), the birthday girl herself, DAngel, in a cream-and-brown delight of a dress with a teasing split that showcased her long flawless legs.

HOTTEST GIRL OF THE NIGHT
But the nights honours go to Nigel Storm babymother in particular. She did ah go hard, in fact, people said that ah she tek the party inna one dress so divine mi caan even describe it. Lena British looked good but she never did ah go hard inna one simple black dress.

Celebrities like Tony Matterhorn, Ding Dong who performed, Barkey, Voice Mail, and Craigy Dread. A list celebrity Vybz Kartel was also in the house but never performed. Corey Todd, of Vybz Rum Distillers, the distributors of Vybz Rum and Pimp Juice, was in a fresh yellow crush linen jacket that screamed new money. Big up Odessa, big up the ZIP and IRIE family. The Sherlock crew was hot, and Cowboy who own the go-go club off Hagley Park road was also in the house.

The party was really nice and we must big up Michelle Downer but a lot of people grumbled and complained under their breath that they had to buy their own drinks, however, food was provided. I will definitely be going back next year. After that, I left to go to Asylum, and so mi ah go back inna mi bed go hold a five, Jamaica, New York, Miami, Snypz, Africa, Muscle Man, Dancehall Queen, Anso, Evantee, Jinx, Kitty, Bubble Like Soup, Beef Soup, Ricky Rudy, J, Schoolgirl, Barbie, Ms Real, Madald, unnuh large, likkle bit.

Keiva 'the dancing diva' has vowed never to return to Stone Love's 'Weddy Weddy Wednesdays', a weekly party held at their headquarters on Burlington Avenue.

According to 'the diva', real name Keiva Hibbert, she felt disrespected at the last Stone Love Anniversary, an annual event held in December.

"Mi nah guh back a Weddy Weddy Wednesdays, mi done wid Weddy Weddy. I'm not going back to Weddy Weddy because I feel offended and this is not the first time either, this is the second time, so my fans won't see me there," Keiva says.

According to her, "The only way I'm going back up to that venue (Stone Love Headquarters, on Burlington Avenue) is if another promoter rent the place to keep an event, but I'm not going back to the regular Weddy Weddy Wednesdays."

Keiva claims, "In 2002 when mi just get mi big break, when I came out wid the 'Online' dance and any tune Elephant do him call mi name, when Stone Love Anniversary keep, there was no award for Keiva and I worked so hard for the year an mi guh every ting weh Stone Love keep and everybody else name call except mine. So I went to Wee Pow about it and he said he was sorry and it was some misunderstanding, so the other years I got my trophies."

However, Keiva's name was missing from the list of dancers awarded at the last Stone Love Anniversary, held in December 2006.

"Last year, I never really had a new dance out, but I have the most music video out of all the Jamaican dancers - suh even if I don't have a new dance, I should get a trophy for the hard work that I have done over the years," Keiva argued.

But that was not the reason why Keiva is bitter.

"And then what hurt mi, dem give somebody a trophy inna my name, like how Mavado is 'di real McCoy', me a Keiva 'the dancing diva' and Latisha 'the dancehall queen'. Now when mi inna di venue an dem announce seh this trophy is for 'the diva', an den call up another dancer, suppose I did walk up pon di stage - suh when yuh a guh gi a dancehall queen (Stacey) di trophy and give ar di title of my name, mi feel disrespected, cause everybody work hard fi dem name. Notice, I don't wine, so that's why mi put my name in a different category from di rest a di dancer dem."

She continued, "I was cut up, I was hurt and other dancers are mad as well, but dem nah come out an talk. All mi fans dem hurt to, cause everybody have dem fans."

Keiva, however, advised, "If yuh don't know what to give away a trophy for, then don't. If yuh a gi weh a trophy, pick di right people. Bitta, Ding Dong and Collo Collo were the only three dancers that got trophies and deserved it. But what about Black Bling, they have the newest dance, 'Tek Weh Yuh Self'; what about Mad Michelle weh win 'All Island Dancehall Queen', what about Sadike who dance from seven to seven, what about Ice, Craigy Dread who a dance from long time?"

However, Stacey, whose real name is Denise Cumberland says, "Keiva a self-proclaimed diva, Keiva jus name ar self 'Keiva di diva' cause it rhyme, but fi be a diva, a di work weh yuh put in over the years ... yuh haffi work fi it."

Stacey felt that her winning the Stone Love award was justified 10 times over as she boasts, "the award was for the 'dancehall diva' of the year, mi pass queen (dancehall queen) stage from long time. Mi win dancehall queen from 1999."

She continued, "The last two years mi win international dancehall queen, suh wah else mi fi win, nuh di 'diva'. Keiva jus get visa like two, three years ago. She has never won a dancehall queen competition ever. She enter di year me win fi di first time inna Jamaica in 1999."

Stacey, brushed aside Keiva's claims saying, "Mi nah work off a di hype, a famous ova hype ... but everybody know seh a me a di diva."

It ended at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel, New Kingston, where a press conference was held.

Fast food chain Taco Bell has issued 50 Cent with a challenge, offering to donate $10,000 to the charity of the rappers choice if he changes his name for one day.

As part of the deal, 50 has to stop past the Taco Bell of his choosing and rap his order at the drive-thru window, however, he must use his newly adopted name, 79 Cent, 89 Cent or 99 Cent

The chain has also said they will feed all of the guests in that particular restaurant for free, as well as making the donation.

A letter to the rapper from Taco Bell President and CEO Greg Creed, which was obtained by OK! magazine, says, We know that you adopted the name 50 Cent years ago as a metaphor for change. We at Taco Bell are also huge advocates for change We encourage you to Think Outside the Bun and hope you accept our offer.

We just learned that Chris Brown has fired manager Tina Davis.  According to the New York Post, Brown is looking for a whole new team to replace his current crew, starting with his manager, Tina Davis.

Davis was cited as the other woman who sent texts to Brown the night before the Grammys, causing the fight in the Lamborghini. Police reports stated Brown had a previous sexual relationship with Davis, whos managed him since he was 16. Davis blasted rumors of any texts or sex, saying she and Brown were strictly manager and client.

Chris Browns manager Tina Davis released a statement yesterday denying a sexual relationship with Chris Brown. However, I was on the baller alert forums last night when I saw this post:

I was talking to my friend that works at Jive and she told me that the Tina Davis text was true. In fact, they have the texts that she sent Chris Brown and it talked about how she wanted to *u*k the di*k off, and she knows he is with that b*tch. It asked where he was at, and when he was coming to his hotel. They also said she had mind control over him, and she has been screwing him since that last rumor came out.

March 08, 2009. Apparently Beyonce never had a boyfriend before Jay Z. At least thats what she told the new mag Los Angeles Confidential

The interviewer asked Beyonce which songs she listens to when she was getting over a heartache. Beyonce replied, Well, fortunately I havent had any break-ups! This [her marriage to Jay Z] is my first relationship.

Girl phu-lease. You need to stop your lying What about Marques Houston, Kobe Bryant, that dude from your church, and that 50 something year old record producer???
Oprah Winfrey won't be able to ignore 50 Cent any longer. According to a 'Top Earning African American Stars' list released by Forbes Magazine, 50 Cent comes in right behind the popular talk show queen.

The list, which appears as a video report published on January 29, 2009, by Forbes.com lists 50 Cent as the second top earning African American star. The report based its rankings on how much the stars raked in from June 2007 to June 2008.

According to Forbes, 50 raked in $150 million over the aforementioned period via his clothing line, music, video games and the purchase of his stake in Glaceau Vitamin Water by Coca Cola in 2007.

Expect to see 50 on the list in the future. The rapper recently launched a film company and has plans to launch his own line of dietary supplements.

50 is currently gearing up to release his fourth solo album Before I Self Destruct in March. The album will feature appearances from Eminem, Dr. Dre and G-Unit rappers Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo.
