FIRE YESTERDAY engulfed the Cool Petroleum Limited fuel depot at Newport West, Kingston, damaging sections of the complex and leaving a worker badly burnt.
Winston Ormsby, the company's general manager of operations, told The Gleaner that the blaze started at 3 p.m. He said a loading rack for trucks, a petroleum tank and an unused building were scorched but the compound was not extensively damaged.
A man contracted to Cool Petroleum sustained extensive burns, especially to his face and lower body. He was admitted to the Kingston Public Hospital but there were no reports on his condition at press time.
Ormsby was unable to say what caused the fire or give an estimate of the damage.
It took several units from the York Park Fire Station to extinguish the blaze.
Cool Petroleum, which has more than 80 outlets, is owned by businessman Joey Issa. Its Newport West station was formerly owned by Shell.
LOS ANGELES
Four police officers were fatally shot and another was wounded in the northern Californian city of Oakland on Saturday. The suspect was later killed by police.
Officials said the perpetrator first opened fire on two motorcycle police officers during a routine traffic stop, killing one and critically wounding the other, who died in hospital on Sunday.
Police launched a manhunt for the man, who shot and killed two more officers before police fatally wounded him.
A wounded officer was treated and released from hospital late Saturday.
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger called the officers deaths tragic, and ordered state flags be flown at half-staff.
News reports said that Schwarzenegger, who was in Washington over the weekend, was on route to Oakland Sunday.
This is a tragic day for law enforcement officers everywhere, he said, adding the slain police had dedicated their lives to public safety and selflessly worked to protect the people of Oakland.
The dead suspect, who was out of prison on parole and who had a long criminal record, was identified by police as Lovelle Mixon, 26.
Authorities said the Oakland officers killed were Mark Dunakin, 40; Ervin Romans, 43; Dan Saki, 35, and John Hege, 41.
Officials said it was the first time an officer in the city was killed in the line of duty in five years.
The shootings triggered a citywide manhunt involving dozens of Oakland police, California Highway Patrol officers and sheriffs deputies for Alameda County.
Eventually, Mixon was tracked down in an apartment building where he was shot and killed by police.
One witness, who did not want to be identified, said he heard gunshots from outside, where he saw two officers laying on the ground.
I went over to one officer and saw he was bleeding from his helmet pretty bad, he said. The other officer was laying motionless.
While firefighters rescued the inmates from the blazing van, bags of cash went missing as they spilled on to the Budapest street.
The prisoners - who were being transported from court to jail - were questioned about the money's disappearance, but all have protested their innocence.
A police spokesman commented: 'The bank remains very suspicious. Of all the vehicles that could have hit their van, it had to be one full of bank robbers.'
Apple and AT&T are being sued (again) for the latter's spotty 3G performance. Macworld has reported:
Initially, I wondered why Dickerson didn't just return the phone and cancel his contract during his trial period, but then I remembered that I live in the United States of America, where litigation is king. Keep in mind that there have been multiple lawsuits similar to Dickerson's claim, so he might be a copycat wishing to cash in on AT&T's inconsistent 3G performance.
For you iPhone users in the house, how has AT&T's 3G performance worked for you? Whether it's good or bad, please let me know how it has been and what area you live in. Hopefully this post doesn't inspire anyone to contact their lawyer.

Cops Want To Quiz Ninja...Name him as person of interest in murder yesterday
THE ST ANDREW South Police are seeking popular deejay Ninja Man, real name Desmond Ballentine, for questioning in connection with a murder in the Marl Road area of Kingston 11 yesterday.
Crime chief for the division, Deputy Superintendent Michael Phipps, told THE STAR that Ballentine was a person of interest in the murder of 20-yearold Ricardo Johnson.
According to the Constabulary Communication Network, about 11:15 a.m., Johnson, otherwise called Ricky Trooper, was sweeping his yard in the company of a friend when a grey motor car with three men aboard drove up. BALLENTINES ATTORNEY
An argument reportedly developed between one of the men and Johnsons friend and the car drove off. The vehicle later returned and the occupants opened fire, hitting Johnson. He died at the Kingston Public Hospital.
The police say they have been contacted by Ballentines attorney, who indicated that he would be taken in later today.
Ballentine is the founder of the One Umbrella Movement, a foundation created to promote peace in the Marl Road community. The deejay is known for a recent clash with Merciless at Follow The Arrow on February 28. He is reported to have lost that lyrical battle.
Rae Town, the central Kingston fishing village renowned for rootsy reggae dances and informal dining delights, is a lot quieter nowadays. But an undercurrent of discontent is rumbling.
The economic and social reper-cussions of the enforcement of the Noise Abatement Act against the popular Sunday night old-hits sessions are beginning to resonate.
The police clampdown has sliced into business profits, say merchants, and the action is fomenting fury.
"Everybody inherit from it, people from all Village Farm, all 'bout, come to this community to mek money," said Kevin, one of several business interests who refused to share their full name with the press.
"Me park the car dem out deh, and without the old-hits session, me cyaah park no car. Everybody hustle a food."
For decades, the sessions went on in contravention of the law, but for the last several months, the operators have had to adhere to legislation which bans music events beyond 2 a.m.
"It nah disturb no one, it nah disturb (Manley) Meadows, it nah disturb Rae Town citizen dem," said Kevin, a 26-year-old father of three.
"When you come to Rae Town Old Hits, there is no crime, nobody not doing you anyt'ing ... . It send me to school."
The sessions have been hosted from before Kevin was born. Claiming he didn't enjoy a "big education", Kevin feels like a fish out of water, as the sessions are now held every two weeks. As a result, he said he has suffered a significant shortfall in earnings.
More criticism
His lament was supported by Latoya, a fish vendor and old-hits hustler. Latoya, who also declined to give her full name, could not hold back criticism.
"Mi get mi tea, lunch and dinner a Old Hits. More Old Hits, we want it every week. A Old Hits my son get him lunch money from. Yeah, a out deh my mother sell," said the bottle collector.
Nalda, 39, and mother of four, is another 'victim' of the enforcement. She argued that the musical event formed the basis of bread-and-butter issues such as schooling her children, and kept alive the vibe of the low-income community.
"No war nuh gwaan yah so when Old Hits time. A nuff people vex how it just die out like that," she explained, pointing to some of the children who had no lunch money to go to school. Narda said she has been going to Old Hits since she was a little girl.
As the discussion heated up in the community, up walked a woman who called herself 'Ginger Charmaine', with a cup of liquor in her hand. "It nice, all now mi nuh work yet, I earn off o' Old Hits by dancing ... Mi sell mi fish too," said Charmaine, who is now currently unemployed.
Rae Town is a community bereft of social amenities and employment opportunities. Fishing is the major source of income, but not everyone can be a fisherman. Incomes are supplemented by activities associated with the old-hits sessions. Much of the money earned at the sessions is used to buy fish for resale, while some is used by fishermen to buy gas for their boats.
Now, some are saying they are stranded on the beach. But Kevin is concerned that with the crackdown on sessions, youths - with negligible education and skills - will turn to crime.
Sydney councillor Danny Lim lodged a motion at the council recommending it purchase the sex toy for New South Wales Fair Trading Minister Virginia Judge so she could "stop screwing with the people of Strathfield and screw herself instead".
The council refused to table the motion and Ms Judge called for action against Mr Lim.
"The pattern of hara**ment and verbal abuse is intimidating and upsetting to me and my family," said Ms Judge.
Twenty-three-year-old fake cop, Courtney Grayson, yesterday underwent gruelling questioning from the anti-corruption unit regarding how he successfully breached security at the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) over the last six months.
Grayson was handed over to the anti-corruption branch last weekend, the unit's head, Justin Felice, told The Gleaner.
"Owing to the seriousness of the breach, we felt we needed to have an independent body outside of the division investigate the case," Assistant Commissioner of Police Denver Frater confirmed yesterday.
Self-assigned
Grayson, who assigned himself to the Mount Salem Police Station during his approximately 182-day stint with the force, was arrested on March 8 and charged with impersonating a policeman and unlawful possession of property. The police found a JCF metal badge, blue-denim uniform and a pair of c****at boots during a search of his home in the volatile Hendon, Norwood, community where he resides with his girlfriend.
Grayson's cover was blown after persons became suspicious of him and called the police who swooped down on him and subsequently found that he had been operating as a policeman for months.
They were attempting to break open the 105mm artillery shell to salvage metal and explosives, police revealed.
They were all killed when the shell exploded in southern Tay Ninh province.
The victims were a 44-year-old father, his 19-year-old son and a 34-year-old friend, living 100km (62 miles) north-west of Ho Chi Minh City.
Local policeman Nguyen Minh Kha said: "The poor men wanted to sell the metal for money. They could not escape the sudden blast."
More than 38,000 Vietnamese nationals are thought to have been killed and 100,000 injured by explosives left over from the Vietnam War, which ended in 1975.
As a bartender and trainer at a national restaurant chain, Rebecca Brown earned a couple thousand dollars in a really good week. Now, as a dancer at Chicagos Pink Monkey gentlemans club, she makes almost that much in one good night.
The tough job market is prompting a growing number of women across the country to dance in strip clubs, appear in adult movies or pose for magazines like Hustler.
Employers across the adult entertainment industry say theyre seeing an influx of applications from women who, like Brown, are attracted by the promise of flexible schedules and fast cash. Many have college degrees and held white-collar jobs until the economy soured.
Youre seeing a lot more beautiful women who are eligible to do so many other things, said Gus Poulos, general manager of New York Citys Sin City gentlemans club. He said he got 85 responses in just one day to a recent job posting on Craigslist.
The transition to the nightclub scene isnt always a smooth one - from learning to dance in five-inch heels to dealing with the jeers of some customers.
Some performers said they were initially so nervous that only alcohol could calm their nerves.
It is like giving a speech, but instead of imagining everyone naked, youre the one whos naked, Brown, 29, said.
Eva Stone, a 25-year-old dancer at the Pink Monkey, said dealing with occasional verbal abuse from patrons requires a thick skin.
OPINION: DEADBEAT DADS CREATE STRIPPERS OF TOMORROW
Makers of adult films cautioned that women shouldnt rush into the decision to make adult movies without considering the effect on their lives.
Once you decide to be an adult actress, it impacts your relationship with everyone, said Steven Hirsch, co-chairman of adult film giant Vivid Entertainment Group. Once you make an adult film, it never goes away.
The women at the Pink Monkey say dancing at a strip club might not have been their first career choice, but they entered the business with their eyes wide open. The job gives them more control and flexibility than sitting in a cubicle, and its easy, its fun and all of us girls look out for each other, Brown said.
In this economy, desperate measures are becoming far more acceptable, said Jonathan Alpert, a New York City-based psychotherapist whos had clients who worked in adult entertainment.
For some, dancing is temporary, a way to pay for college loans or other bills. Others say theyve found their niche.
Dancers at the upscale Ricks Caberet clubs in New York City and Miami can make $100,000 to $300,000 a year - in cash - even with the economic downturn, club spokesman Allan Priaulx said.
Priaulx said 20 to 30 women a week are applying for jobs at the New York club, double the number of a year ago.
Rhode Islands Foxy Lady held a job fair Saturday, seeking to fill about 35 positions for dancers, masseuses, bartenders and bouncers. The Providence Journal reported that more than 150 job seekers showed up to apply for work at the strip club. Foxy Lady co-owner Tom Tsoumas said a recent promotion to cut prices helped the club regain business lost due to the bad economy, forcing it to hire more employees.
Still, analysts say, the industry isnt immune to the economic recession. Business is down an estimated 30 percent across all segments, including adult films, gentlemans clubs, magazines and novelty shops, said Paul Fishbein, president of AVN Media Network, an adult entertainment company that has a widely distributed trade publication and an award show.
In the past, people have said this industry is recession-proof, said Eric Wold, director of research for financial services firm Merriman Curhan Ford. I definitely dont see thatmaybe recession-resistant.
Strip club dancers and managers said theyre drawing in the same number of customers, but fewer high rollers.
Theyre not getting the big spenders, said Angelina Spencer, executive director of the Association of Club Executives, a trade group for adult nightclubs. Theyre not getting the guys who come in and drop $3,000 to $4,000 a night anymore.
Still, the clubs operating structure leaves them with low overhead and profit margins of up to 50 percent, Wold said.
Dancers are independent contractors, paying clubs a nightly flat fee depending on how long they work. At the Pink Monkey, for example, dancers who arrive at 7 p.m. Sunday through Thursday pay a $40 house fee, while women who dont arrive until midnight pay $90. And they keep their tips.
Wold and others say its almost impossible to estimate the size of the adult entertainment industry because few companies are publicly traded. He does pay close attention to three that are: Lakewood, Colo.-based VCG Holding and Houston-based Ricks Caberet, which own clubs, and New Frontier Media, a Boulder, Colo.-based adult film producer and distributor.
All three are profitable.
Ricks Caberet had $60 million in revenue in its 2008 fiscal year, up from $32 million the year before, Wold said, and he estimates VCG will have $57 million for last year, compared with $40.5 million in FY2007. New Frontier Media generates more than $400 million in consumer buying a year.
Larry Flynt, whose half-billion dollar Hustler empire publishes magazines, produces and distributes films and operates a casino, said hes continued to do well. But he doesnt expect those who are solely in the film business to survive.
A lot of the small studios are out of business now, theres no doubt about that, Flynt said.
Adult magazines also are struggling along with the larger publishing industry, and have to cut pages like everyone else.
But the economic realities arent keeping jobseekers away.
Vivid Entertainments Hirsch said the number of women in his business has doubled in the last couple years, with roughly 800 working as adult actresses. It is more competitive than Ive seen it in 25 years, he said.
That doesnt mean all the newcomers are planning on lengthy careers in the industry.
Stone, who has a bachelors degree in graphic design, took up dancing four years ago to help pay her student loans. She plans to go to graduate school this year to pursue a masters in education.
Brown, meanwhile, has a ready answer for those critical of her career choice.
I have job security, she said.
Singer Erykah Badu made it out for her performance at the SXSW performance on Saturday (March 21) in Austin, Texas - but not before being delayed by an unusual stalker.
According to TMZ.com, Badu used Twitter to update fans that police just apprehended a stalker in front of my house. Stay tuned to details.
The singer said that the stalker, a woman, had been outside of her house numerous times, and that she had several misc. items spread out in the gra**. Blue shutters, a rabbit, a tucan and a sketch book.
The stalker was pepper sprayed and cuffed by officers, and the ensuing police report that Badu filled out apparently made the singer late for her performance.

When times are tough, the Salvation Army is normally around to lend a helping hand.
Now that the number of persons facing tough times has increased, it's the Salvation Army that needs help.
It makes sense after all; the economy takes a nosedive and everybody tightens up on spending. In tough times, people are also less inclined to make charitable donations.
However, that's where John Williamson, an executive director at the Salvation Army, comes in.
The preliminary inquiry for police Superintendent Yvonne Martin-Daley, who has been charged with vehicular manslaughter of a policeman, will start on April 30.
When the case came up for mention in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court last Thursday, Clerk of the Court Floyd McNab said the Crown would be ready to proceed on the new date.
Defence attorney Anthony Pearson asked for the case to be dismissed, saying his client had suffered financially - her pay has been cut by a quarter - while on interdiction.
McNab, however, argued that an alleged eyewitness for the accused was not credible as he was related to Martin-Daley.
The incident
Facts of the case are that about 7:30 a.m. on July 15, 2008, Constable Mark Needham of the Motorised Patrol Division was travelling in an easterly direction along the Spanish Town Bypass in St Catherine.
Upon reaching the vicinity of the Matrix Ice Company, the super-intendent, who was driving a Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV in the same direction, made a U-turn. Needham's motorcycle collided with Martin-Daley's vehicle. He died on the spot.
A file was sent to the director of public prosecutions and Martin-Daley was subsequently charged with vehicular manslaughter. She has maintained her innocence in court appearances.

Addressing a gathering at the second staging of the Department of Correctional Services annual Wellness Programme at the Spanish Town Prison Oval last Thursday, the minister said the time had come for groups to invest in their health, as it was critical to financial well-being.
"It was a very good partnership that the trade unions had put forward to the correctional department. This was done also through the efforts of the former commissioner, Major Richard Reese," said MacMillan.
Acting Commissioner of Corrections June Spence-Jarrett said the health scheme, which covers correctional and probation officers, and probation after-care officers, applies to immediate relatives as well.
Your health
"With the Pan American Health Organisation projecting that in the next 20 years the death rates for preventable illnesses will increase threefold, we think that working on your health is very important," Spence-Jarrett said.
Observations of personnel not adequately preserving their health, said the corrections chief, influenced the formation of a committee to drive policy.

Spence-Jarrett declined to state the cost of the scheme.
Deputy Group president of Capital and Credit Financial Group (CCFG), Andrew c**king, is encouraging students of the Excelsior High School to work hard at their academics in order to achieve success, in spite of the hardship some may face.
Mr c**king is urging the students not to worry about the funding for their future academic studies and to take advantage of the Students' Loans Bureau (SLB) and the support from their parents and guardians.
Scholarship
Each person, he says, should also focus on working hard to better equip themselves for opportunities through scholarship or employment. The SLB chairman and past student of Excelsior High, shared these thoughts with the students during morning devotion on Monday, March 23, at the school.
He said his refusal to give up and his determination to succeed academically has resulted in his becoming one of the co-founders of CCFG, among holding other prominent offices. He also credited the late A. W. Powell, founder of Excelsior, for giving him a second chance and his very supportive parents.
In their quest to fight and win popular traditional lyrical wars, dancehall artists and their advisors have forgotten to consult the laws in Jamaica that determine what the legal boundaries and rights are for such warriors.
To the surprise of the genres two verbal hot shots, Vybz Kartel and Mavado, it has been reported that police are not only considering filing charges following the 25th anniversary of STING, they have video evidence to support their claims and will definitely be pursuing said charges. According to The Star, crime chief, Detective acting Deputy Superintendent Carl Malcolm said, "Having viewed the tape [of the event], we are now in the process of going full fledge at pursuing charges against Mr Palmer and Mr Brooks and any other entertainer who we find in breach of the act.
The act referred to by the acting Deputy Superintendent is the Town and Communities Act legislated to protect citizens of Jamaica from exposure to profanity and threatening words in particularly the public arena. Kartel and Mavado whose real names are Adidjah Palmer and David Brooks respectively are not the only ones being scrutinized on the videotape. Police are interested in all persons deemed to have violated the law while performing on the STING stage at Jamworld in Portmore last Friday.
STING was for the most part incident free and there was a massive presence of security and law enforcement there.
Police are not disclosing their timeline for the laying of charges, but they have revealed that it all depends on when their videotape reviewing process has been completed.
Dancehall artists in particular are being urged to remember that even though they think only sticks and stones will break bones, words do also act as weapons, attacking, discouraging and influencing minds. And legislators who work for the Jamaican people arent having it not in public anyway.

Colo Colo chopped, beaten

Popular dancer, Wayne 'Colo Colo' Stewart and his girlfriend were left nursing wounds after being brutally attacked by a group of men during a video shoot.
The incident, which took place on Wednesday night in Half-Way Tree, has left the creator of the 'Rum Ram' dance in great concern.
"Me jus a gwaan whole it ennuh. Right now a jail me waa dem fi go," he said.
It was alleged that Stewart and his girlfriend, Lisa Brown, were taking part in a dance documentary on hip hop and reggae on Half-Way Tree Road on Wednesday night when they were attacked by a group of bus conductors.
Fierce altercation
Stewart said the men approached them and demanded to be in the video shoot that was taking place. However, it was said that a fierce altercation then developed between Stewart's girlfriend and the men.
The men subsequently drove away and later returned with weapons which were used to inflict wounds on Stewart, who managed to escape to the nearby police station.
Stewart said he reported the incident at the Half-Way Tree Police Station and was given a piece of paper by one of the lawmen to receive medical attention at the Kingston Public Hospital, downtown Kingston.
Efforts to contacted the investigating officer proved futile, as the officer was said to be off duty. Stewart said he can remember his attackers and only wants justice.
"Di man dem av me up, me know di whole a dem. A regular dem do things like dat. Mi inna pain and my girlfriend get a buss mouth too," he said.
*lo**SHOT EYES and a gold, green and black T-shirt with 'Jamaica Mi Born' are legacies of Ann-Marie Vaz's latest West Portland sojourn. Three days before today's by-election, the wife of Jamaica Labour Party candidate Daryl Vaz was eager for the end.
"It's been exhausting for me as a wife and mother. To see what my husband has been through to prove his passion for the constituency has been emotionally draining," she told The Gleaner at her home in the upscale St Andrew neighbourhood of Cherry Gardens.
For the second time in 18 months, Daryl Vaz will run for the West Portland seat. His opponents are the People's National Party's (PNP) Kenneth Rowe and Ras Astor Black, an independent.
A lengthy legal battle waged by the PNP through Abe Dabdoub resulted in a by-election. Dabdoub was Vaz's opponent in West Portland for the September 2007 general election, which Vaz won by 944 votes.
The appeal court upheld the chief justice's decision in February.
Union threatened
Ann-Marie is Daryl Vaz's second wife; they married 10 months after meeting at a party and celebrated their seventh anniversary in December. She says his decision to get back into politics after a break in the 1990s threatened the union.
"I never wanted anything to do with politics. It caused a lot of damage to our marriage initially," she said.
While not expanding on that 'damage', Vaz said, she has settled into the role of a politician's wife, and believes her husband has done enough for voters in West Portland to give him another win.
"The people there recognise and appreciate the work he has been doing. The feeling is that 'This man is working, let's give him a chance'," she said.
Daryl Vaz is one of the most explosive personalities in Jamaican politics. His stay in West Portland has not been without incident. His wife witnessed an ugly scene between him and police in the constituency during a rally celebrating the JLP's local government election victory in December 2007.
"I've always known of his persona and things that people said. Those are things I won't get into," she said.
There was no political tension in the district of Duff House, Manchester, where Ann-Marie Lyew was born 43 years ago. The eldest of five children, she attended Hampton School in St Elizabeth and moved to Kingston in her late teens to attend Alpha Academy.
She has a teenage son and 12-year-old daughter from a previous relationship. Her marriage to Daryl Vaz has produced a daughter, Victoria, now six.
Analysts are predicting a tight contest in West Portland, though most give the c****ative Vaz the advantage. Ann-Marie Vaz expects her husband to win, but says she will welcome the result either way.
"When it's over, we can finally get back to running the country's business. The only 'P' I want to hear about after Monday is people," she said.
THE COUNTRY'S two major political parties are confident that rainy weather affecting West Portland will not influence voter turnout in today's by-election, which could significantly shift the balance of political power.
Already the parish has been drenched and the Meteorological Service has said it expects "cloudy conditions with on-and-off showers" to continue throughout today.
The Jamaica Labour Party's (JLP) Daryl Vaz is nominated to contest the seat against the People's National Party's (PNP) Kenneth Rowe. Long-shot contender Astor Black of the New Jamaica Alliance is also in the race.
Vaz told The Gleaner yesterday that showers will not bother Portlanders.
"Portland is accustomed to rain. Surely, the rain will delay the vote but I don't think it will affect the turnout," Vaz said yesterday.
Luther Buchanan, Rowe's campaign manager, echoed his sentiment.
"The people of Portland are accustomed to these weather patterns and our workers are so geared to work in these conditions," said Buchanan.
Well-placed PNP sources have said that the party expects Rowe to win by 275 votes.
Vaz hopeful
However, Vaz is adamant that he will be returned as MP after today's poll.
"I am still predicting a margin of more than 2,000 votes for sure and I would definitely be disappointed if I get less than that," Vaz told The Gleaner.
Vaz polled 6,799 votes in September 2007 general election to the PNP's Abe Dabdoub's 6,033 votes for a victory margin of 944.
"Tomorrow, it is going to be Vaz vs Simpson Miller, Labour Party vs PNP and they are going to lose again," Vaz said yesterday.
Both JLP and PNP suffered major setbacks Saturday night as their campaign rallies held at Buff Bay and Hope Bay, respectively, were washed out by torrential rain.
PNP President Portia Simpson Miller nonetheless rallied the troops.
"This shower is a blessing," said Simpson Miller. "Tomorrow ,we are going to secure victory at the polls and wash the JLP out of West Portland."
Good to go
Exactly 18,723 voters are eligible to vote in today's by-election at 99 polling stations.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) has said all is in place for today's exercise.
"It is all systems go," Orrette Fisher, the director of elections, told The Gleaner.
Fisher said the rain could pose a challenge in getting equipment into some areas of the constituency. He also said the weather could influence the time by which the EOJ will be able to declare the seat, but noted that Jamaicans should know the results by the latest 9 p.m.
Meanwhile, the PNP yesterday urged the Government to suspend any planned roadwork in West Portland today.
According to the PNP, it has been informed that the JLP "plans to undertake roadwork in the constituency tomorrow and that these works will be concentrated in areas that are strongly supportive of the People's National Party and will be used to disrupt the smooth flow of vehicular traffic, thus hindering or inhibiting persons from being transported to vote on election day."
Attempts to contact Transport Minister Mike Henry for a response proved futile up to press time last night.
The JLP has 31 seats to the PNP's 28 in the 60-seat Parliament.
A heavy detachment of police and soldiers has taken up positions in various communities to quell the likelihood of any last-minute conflicts among rival supporters.

Ninja Man charged with murder
Saturday, March 21, 2009
CONTROVERSIAL dancehall artiste Desmond Ballentine, better known as Ninja Man, was yesterday charged with Monday's gun slaying of a man on Marl Road in Kingston.
Head of the Major Investigations Task force (MIT), Assistant Police Commissioner Les Green, said Ballentine was charged with murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of a firearm.
"He was questioned this afternoon and as a result of that interview the charges were laid," Green told the Observer last night. The police, he added, had a "good" case against Ballentine.
In the meantime, Superintendent Selvin Hay, also of the MIT, said that the police would continue their hunt for two other men implicated in the murder.
Popular dancehall entertainer, Ninja Man whose real name is Desmond Ballentine was yesterday charged with conspiracy to murder and shooting with intent. When 876radio.com contacted the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) a senior investigator advised that the deejay was charged Friday evening after being interrogated in connection with the murder of Ricardo Johnson, 20, otherwise known as "Ricky Trooper". Mr. Johnson was killed Monday at his house in Olympic Gardens in Kingston, allegedly by one of three men who were travelling in a motor car. Ninja Man surrendered to the police Thursday afternoon in the presence of his lawyer after initially denying the allegations that he was involved in the crime. According to the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) It is reported that at approximately 11:15am Tuesday morning three men in a grey motor car drove up to the home of Johnson aka 'Ricky Trooper' (not the sound system selector) where an argument developed that turned into an altercation. The vehicle then drove off and returned later where the occupants alighted and opened fire, hitting Johnson. He was rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. |

It was a red and white affair at the weekly Bembe Thursdays event held at Weekenz off Constant Spring Road, as patrons turned out in themed attire for the Valentine's Day special. From bright coloured red tops, dresses and skirts to full white, females turned out in their numbers, while their male counterparts took the semi-formal mode of dress, clad in jacket and dress pants for some. The mood was definitely set, as selectors like Razz and Biggy, ZJ Liquid and Jigsy spun up the musical vibes that had patrons rocking and gyrating the night away. We just learned that Chris Brown has fired manager Tina Davis. According to the New York Post, Brown is looking for a whole new team to replace his current crew, starting with his manager, Tina Davis.
Davis was cited as the other woman who sent texts to Brown the night before the Grammys, causing the fight in the Lamborghini. Police reports stated Brown had a previous sexual relationship with Davis, whos managed him since he was 16. Davis blasted rumors of any texts or sex, saying she and Brown were strictly manager and client.
Chris Browns manager Tina Davis released a statement yesterday denying a sexual relationship with Chris Brown. However, I was on the baller alert forums last night when I saw this post:
I was talking to my friend that works at Jive and she told me that the Tina Davis text was true. In fact, they have the texts that she sent Chris Brown and it talked about how she wanted to *u*k the di*k off, and she knows he is with that b*tch. It asked where he was at, and when he was coming to his hotel. They also said she had mind control over him, and she has been screwing him since that last rumor came out.
