Major League Baseball is expected to announce Thursday that Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Manny Ramirez has tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs and will be suspended for 50 games, The Los Angeles Times is reporting.

Yes, many might agree with the Ivorian that the refereeing was a "disgrace," but the truth is only one of the four shouts the Blues had was worthy of a penalty being awarded (Gerard Pique's handball from Nicolas Anelka's flick).

Indeed, a case can be made that Chelsea profited from referee Tom Henning Ovrebo as much as they were disadvantaged in particular, Eric Abidal's sending off for a challenge only the Norwegian saw handed Chelsea a numerical advantage for the majority of the second half.

The fact they did not capitalise on this, but instead were content to sit on the slender lead they had, cannot be blamed on the referee.

Over both ties, Chelsea showed little real adventure or ambition and looked destined to go through on the back of one unexpected moment of exquisite beauty from their midfield linchpin. To moan afterwards about the refereeing is simply disingenuous the misplaced anger of an emotional team devastated to see victory snatched away from them in the cruelest of manners.

Blame must start at home.

Where is the dissection of Petr Cech's questionable technique that allowed Andres Iniesta's shot to rifle past him?

Where is the post mortem of the defensive organisation, lax enough to allow arguably Barcelona's most threatening player on the night space on the edge of the box?

Why didn't the team go in for the kill when their opponents went down to 10 men?

These questions nay, criticisms for Chelsea should be raised and answered. Hiding behind the excuse of poor refereeing will not change anything in the long run. But a bit of self-awareness and reflection, currently so conspicuous in its absence, just might.

Due to the fuss made by much of the Chelsea hierarchy, the consensus already seems to be dismissing Barcelona's triumph as a result of extreme good fortune.

This paints an inaccurate picture.

If anything, a Barcelona triumph would have been the only fair reflection of the tie.

Barcelona's manager, Josep Guardiola, deserves great credit for steering his side to success. Yes, Iniesta's strike came dangerously late, but to restrict a powerful and imposing Chelsea side to one goal in 180 minutes (and a Yeboah-esque wonder strike at that) is an impressive achievement equal to anything their opponents were lauded for at the Nou Camp.

Considering in the second leg Barcelona had to do without the influential presence of Carles Puyol, Rafael Marquez, and Thierry Henry, Guardiola should be lauded for enabling his team to progress especially on enemy territory, having seen his side go a goal down.

Playing Yaya Toure in central defense was a masterstroke the key pre-match decision in a selection full of them. Guardiola had other options he could have opted for admittedly inconsistent Martin Caceres at the back or put Sergi Busquets as the makeshift defender in order to keep the team's traditional midfield core together.

But he went for Toure and the Ivorian proved himself to be the correct choice.

The 25-year-old helped Pique cope with the physicality of Drogba and nullified the threat of a striker that has been in top form in recent weeks. Crucially, though, he also acted as an invaluable distributor of the ball when in possession bringing it out of defense with panache and starting attacks with intelligence.

He created another facet to Barcelona's play in attack without sacrificing too much defensive security.

An attacking threat was something they craved, especially as the absence of Henry appeared to considerably blunt the Catalan giant's threat. Iniesta did a solid job deputizing in the Frenchman's unfamiliar role, creating a lot of width on the left and generally giving Jose Bosingwa food for thought.

However, thanks in part to Chelsea's dogged and disciplined defense, it rarely looked like anything tangible would come of his prolific industry.

Until the last minute, that is.

In midfield, Busquets stepped up to the plate admirably, as did Seydou Keita. At times they did bend, but never did they break. Confronting arguably the most imposing midfield trio in world football is not something to be overlooked.

Still, the nagging feeling for Chelsea fans today might be that if their team had applied more pressure on the two newcomers, they might have got some reward.

In his career, Guus Hiddink has been on the end of as many fortunate refereeing decisions as poor ones, and he would undoubtedly admit privately that the team cannot really blame anyone other than themselves for the defeat.

Ultimately, Abidal's red should have been the rag to the bull spurring the Blues on to go in for the kill. That it didn't only serves to demonstrate the team are not yet worthy of becoming European champions.

Last night's match was not a triumph for refereeing, nor a triumph for Chelsea's style of play but it was a triumph for the Beautiful Game.

And it was a triumph for Pep Guardiola.

As talk of Lloyd Banks leaving Interscope records increases, the G-Unit rapper has revealed his recent collaborations outside of his rap group, including new records with Jadakiss, Fabolous, Juelz Santana.

Despite the tight-knit association with his G-Unit camp, Banks has expressed his recent motivation to work with other artists.

"I got a track called 'My Way or Nothing' with Uncle Murda," Banks said in an interview regarding his new mixtape. "I'm a fan of a lot of these emcees. I reached out to Nipsey Hussle too...I'm just trying to get in there and mix magic and work with a lot of these artists I've appreciated over the years. Everybody gotta get their grown man on and get in to the studio and make magic."

Banks also cleared up the Interscope rumor -- he hasn't been signed to the label since 2007, when he fulfilled his contractual requirements. The residency, called This Is It, will begin in July and continue through February. Jackson has said these are the last shows he'll play in London. Last week, he billed the concerts as his "final curtain call."

Manny Pacquiao proved why he's considered the best pound-for-pound fighter Saturday night (May 2), when he KO'd Ricky Hatton in the second round during their junior welterweight title bout.

At the end of the fight, the Filipino superstar connected with a devastating left cross to the head, leaving the British brawler dazed and confused on the canvas. Referee Kenny Bayless took one look at Hatton and called the fight at 2:59 of the round.

Knock downs were the theme for this round and a half of boxing. After cautionously figuring out Hatton's constant forward moving, Pac-Man began to unleash punch flurries, before dropping Hatton for the first time midway through the first round.

It was when Hatton c**ked back to throw a left that Manny Pacquiao saw his opening. He followed immediately with a punishing right hook to the head, catching Hatton right on the chin. After the fight, both Pac-Man and his trainer Freddie Roach said the hook was executed exactly how it was practiced in the gym.

"Every time Ricky throws his left hand, he pulls it back and c**ks it, and he's wide open for a short right hook on the inside from the South Paw stance," said Roach in the post interview. "We worked on that every day in the gym, the timing shot. It just worked beautifully."

"That's the right hook," Manny explained, while watching playback of the first round knock down with HBO's Larry Merchant. "We study that every day in the gym. If you see the [HBO's '24/7'], I throw a lot of hooks in the training. So, that's why he's very surprised on that style."

Despite the quick knock down, Hatton rose at the count of eight, but Pac-Man landed yet another flurry and dropped him once again right before the bell ended the first round.

Both fighters exited to their corners, and went back to it in round two, but Pacquiao was just too fast and powerful for Hatton to handle. The pride of the Philippines sized up the British fighter for one last big punch. It was a right cross that Hatton never saw coming, leaving him flat on the canvas.

"I'm surprised the fight was kinda easy. For me, I consider the fight is hard because he can punch. He have a strong left hand," a humble Pacquiao said.

"That's what was our strategy -- the one punch hook by hook. Left hook and right hook, that's gonna be the key to this fight."

Although Pacquiao was a 2-1 favorite over Hatton, many predicted that Hatton would be Pac-Man's toughest opponent to date. Manny had to come up in weight to meet Hatton at 140 ponds. Some wondered if his power would be enough to hurt Hatton who has a reputation as a tough and aggressive fighter who wears his opponents down.

He stood no chance against Pacquaio though.

After the devastating knockout, Hatton rose from the canvas several minutes after doctors tended to him. He walked back into the locker room without a post interview.

It was the second loss of Hatton's career. His only loss prior, came at the hands of Floyd Mayweather Jr., who KO'd him in the 10th round of their fight in December 2007.

Pacquiao's victory comes on the same day Mayweather announced his return to the ring, by way of a July 18 fight against Juan Manuel Marquez. With Pacquiao's lopsided win over Hatton, many predict a match with Mayweather is next. That is, if he wins against Marquez this summer.

Hugh Jackman's movie prequel "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" has leaped to the top of the box office with an $87 million opening weekend.

That puts it right in the pack with the three previous "X-Men" movies in which Jackman played the character of mutant superhero Wolverine.

The trilogy's final chapter, "X-Men: The Last Stand," had the franchise's best opening with $102.8 million.

But "Wolverine" came in ahead of the first two movies. "X-Men" did $54.5 million in its first weekend and "X2: X-Men United" did $85.6 million.

Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner's romantic comedy "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" debuted in second place with $15.3 million.

The first concert in Arizona Stadium since 1977 lost nearly $1 million. The Last Smash Platinum Bash, which featured Jay-Z and Kelly Clarkson, ended up $917,000 in the red. The concert cost $1.42 million, and ticket and merchandise sales brought in only $503,502, according to student organizers. Nobody predicted the economy would be the way it is now last May, he said. The contract for Jay-Z, who was paid $750,000, was signed March 24.

ORANGE, Calif. A couple and their toddler son have been found shot to death in their Orange County apartment in an apparent murder-suicide, police said Wednesday. An apartment manager who hadn't seen the family in several days called police, who arrived Tuesday afternoon to find a 44-year-old man, his 42-year-old girlfriend and their 2- or 3-year-old son each dead with a single bullet wound to the head, Orange police Sgt. Mike Monjaraz said. Investigators found a gun near the man and a suicide note he had apparently written, Monjaraz said. "It appears that all three had been shot by the male," he said. Police said they found the man and woman in separate bedrooms and found the boy in a kitchen chair. The apartment manager told officers the couple's cars had not moved and that they had not answered their phone for several days. Monjaraz said the man and woman had been together for about five years and had lived in the apartment in Orange since September 2006. The city is about 30 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles. No names were released because relatives had not been notified.

The St. Andrew Central Homicide unit is now probing a double murder on University Road, just a few metres outside the University of the West Indies, Mona campus, yesterday morning.

The dead men were discovered by passers-by about 6:30 yesterday morning wrapped in a white sheet and tarpaulin. The police were called and an inspection of the bodies showed that they had both sustained a number of gunshot wounds. The bodies were removed to the morgue for post-mortem.

Up to press time, police had no leads or motive for the killings and the men had not been identified.

Ninja Man's son Janile Ballentine and Clayton Dennis charged for murder

Ninja Man who has been locked up since March was recently accompanied by his son Janile Ballentine who has also been charged for the death of 20-year-old Ricardo Johnson.

OutAroad.com understands that Janile Ballentine has been on the run since the incident but was eventually captured in the parish of St. Ann. The members of the Major Investigation Task Force also charged a third man, Clayton Dennis who they believed was also responsible for the young man's death.

They are all scheduled to appear in Court on Thursday to answer to several charges such as illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition along with conspiracy to murder.

On Tuesday March 16, 2009 at about 11:15 a.m. it is alleged that three men depart from a car who immediately fired several shots at another man who managed to escaped, however Mr. Johnson who was standing at his gate got hit by a stray bullet, he was then immediately rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital but failed to overcome his injuries.

"Just so no one gets it twisted: the Lakers are winning the NBA Finals. Now that KG is out, the C's aren't gonna go anywhere, which is a shame. You always like to have the defending champs in there to fight like hell to hold on to their crown. Doc Rivers doesn't want to believe it. And as competitive as KG is, I can't imagine even being around him right now -- how frustrated he must be because all he wants to do is get out on that court. He's probably breaking stuff in his house, he's so mad.

Anyway, so now we're looking at a Lakers versus Cavaliers final, and that's going to be amazing. Kobe won't get the best of LeBron, but the Lakers will get the best of the Cavs. I'll be rooting for the Lakers, and LeBron already knows that. So it's not like I'm gonna show up in a Kobe jersey and make 'Bron Bron cry. He knows I've been a Laker fan my whole life so it's all good. John Madden is calling it quits.

NBC said Thursday that the burly ex-coach who has been one pro football's top broadcast analysts has decided to retire. The 73-year-old Madden has been working for the past three seasons on NBC's Sunday night NFL game. His last telecast was the Super Bowl between Arizona and Pittsburgh.

Since he left coaching in 1979, the former Oakland Raiders coach has worked as an analyst for all four broadcast networks. His "Madden NFL Football" is the top-selling sports video game of all time.

Madden is reluctant to fly and often traveled to games in a specially-equipped bus. He said in a statement that he still loves all aspects of the job, "but I know this is the right time."

The Hawks real-life mascot got a little flying time during the playoffs.

Spirit, an actual hawk that flies down from the rafters during the pre-game introductions, decided to hang around for the start of Game 2 against the Miami Heat on Wednesday night.

The bird was perched atop the scoreboard at tipoff, refusing to go to his handler. Then he swooped around the arena while the game was going on, landing on a railing in the lower deck before he settled on the top of the basket at the Hawks end of the court.

When the players spotted the bird, they refused to go on. The game was halted with 8:28 remaining in the first quarter until the handler finally arrived, luring Spirit to his arm and carrying him out of the arena to cheers from the crowdand several players.

Former New York Knicks president and coach Isiah Thomas has accepted the job as Florida International's basketball coach. The move gives the Hall of Fame player a second chance to revive his career. The school said Tuesday that Thomas signed a five-year contract. Thomas has never coached at the college level. He helped the Detroit Pistons win two NBA championships as a point guard, then coached the Indiana Pacers before taking over in New York, where an array of problems marred his tenure. At FIU, he replaces Sergio Rouco, who was reassigned Monday after posting a losing record in each of his five seasons as coach.

The man responsible for a 2006 car wreck involving late Texas rapper Pimp C has been sentenced to a 70-year prison sentence.



The Beaumont Enterprise reports that Shawn Donnell Jones was sentenced last week for his role in the incident.



According to the Jefferson County District Attorney's office, Jones fired a round from an SKS assault rifle at two men who left the scene of a music video being filmed on the west side of Port Arthur.



After the round shattered the cars rear windshield, a chase ensued as Jones fired at the two men several times.



At least six rounds from the weapon struck the car.



Soon after, the vehicle struck Pimp Cs car at an intersection, ending Jones assault. Authorities later captured Jones and his accomplice, Joseph Paul Smith.



During the chase, Smith drove the car while Jones fired shots. The court hearing marks the latest in a string of encounters between Jones and police.



The 38-year-olds previous episodes include 19 previous criminal convictions in addition to 90 incidents of misconduct while incarcerated.



Jones sentencing is a step forward, in the eyes of prosecutor Pat Knauth.



"We were most gratified by the jury verdict against a chronic offender who has been a terror in the city of Port Arthur for years, he told the Enterprise.



Who knows who else might have been injured or killed by his actions if the police hadn't been right on top of this situation?"



Factors in the decision against Jones included video footage of the chase as well as Jones' fingerprints on a partially empty box of bullets and a clip from the assault rifle.



Both items had been thrown from the car during the chase. To be considered for parole, Jones must serve at least 30 years of his prison sentence.



Another aggravated assault charge involving Jones is pending. A trial for that case will take place tomorrow (May 4).

Reports that celebrity couple, Beenie Man and D'Angel, recently had a domestic dispute forcing one of them to seek medical attention, have been spreading like wildfire.

Efforts to reach both Beenie Man and D'Angel for a comment proved futile, as neither of them was willing to come to the phone to speak.

However, producer and close friend of the couple, Arthur Wale, says, "everything nice between dem now. A tru dem (Beenie and D'Angel) did have a likkle argument everybody a blow di ting out a proportion. But di two people dem nice, mi deh right weh di two a dem deh an a me a talk on dem behalf."

He also told THE STAR that "Beenie get a cut, one window bruk an cut him pon him hand, but Angel all right, not even a scratch nuh deh pon ar."

Attempts to find out what caused the dispute between the couple were unsuccessful, as the producer said that he did not wish to disclose that to the media.

Beenie is said to have sought medical attention for the injury he received during the dispute. They, however, have not reported the incident to the police.

In what was probably the biggest celebrity wedding last year, Beenie Man, real name Moses Davis, and D'Angel, Michelle Downer, got married at the Creighton Estate in St. Andrew in an all-white affair.

D'Angel had previously been the girlfriend of Beenie's arch-rival Bounty Killer. She had complained in interviews after their break-up that the deejay had been abusive. She also stated that she had now found a good man.

In one of her latest songs, a collaboration with deejay Vybz Kartel, former member of the Bounty Killer-led Alliance, she also boasted in one line that "mi run weh the waste bwoy and find a Real McCoy."

Since Usher's engagement last March to Tameka, a mother of three, he appears to be more tuned into family life. "At this time in my life, I am simply more interested in building the strength of my family; and in order to do that, I feel it's best to separate my business life from my personal life," he said.

Deejay Vybz Kartel had a public falling out with selector Rolex during the weekly 'Prendys on the Beach' dance at Hellshire Beach in St. Catherine last Sunday.

Rumours are that the deejay threw expensive liquor in the face of selector Rolex, who was once a trusted member of Kartel's inside circle.

"The deejay never boxed him, it wasn't no physical ting, but Rolex get wet up wid Henessey, we no sure what go down but some people ah say is because ah how him did a play the Mavado tune dem," one patron told us

In the meantime, the deejay could not be reached for comment. However, sources say it wasn't the Mavado songs that were the issue, but another matter that caused the dust-up between the two.

According to the Beaumont Enterprise, a Texas newspaper, a man involved in an accident that crashed the car of late rapper Pimp C in 2006 has been sentenced to 70 years in prison.

The car crash stemmed from an incident that took place after a video shoot in Port Arthur, Texas. The man charged in the crash, Shawn Donnell Jones, was shot at shortly after the video shoot.

As a result of the shooting, Jones fired back with a SKS assault rifle and a car chase ensued. Jones fired several shots at Pimp Cs car while his accomplice Joseph Paul Smith drove the vehicle. The chase ended when Jones car rammed into Pimp Cs car at an intersection. Both Jones and Smith were eventually captured by police.

Aside from the incident involving Pimp Cs car, Jones already has 19 previous criminal convictions and 90 incidents of misconduct while in prison.

Although Jones was sentenced to 70 years in prison he is still facing another aggravated assault charge. He will appear in court today, May 4, to face that charge.

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said she decided to publish the "name and shame" list -- which identifies 16 people banned since last October -- for the first time to clarify what behaviour Britain will not tolerate. "I think it's important that people understand the sorts of values and sorts of standards that we have here, the fact that it's a privilege to come and the sort of things that mean you won't be welcome in this country," she said. "If you can't live by the rules that we live by ... we should exclude you from this country and, what's more, now we will make public those people that we have excluded," she told the GMTV broadcaster. Between October and April the Home Office excluded 22 people for "fostering extremism or hatred" included preachers Abdullah Qadri Al Ahdal, Yunis Al Astal and Amir Siddique, said a Home Office statement. Hamas MP Yunis Al-Astal, Jewish extremist Mike Guzovsky, former Ku Klux Klan leader Stephen Donald Black and neo-Nazi Erich Gliebe are also on the list, as is controversial radio host Michael Alan Weiner, also known as Michael Savage. Others blacklisted include homophobic US pastor Fred Waldron Phelps, as well as Artur Ryno and Pavel Skachevsky, former leaders of a violent Russian skinhead gang which committed 20 racially motivated murders. Smith said: "The government opposes extremism in all its forms and I am determined to stop those who want to spread extremism, hatred and violent messages in our communities from coming to our country. "This is the driving force behind tighter rules on exclusions for unacceptable behaviour," she added. Six of those excluded recently were not named because it would not be "in the public interest," said the Home Office. In February Britain triggered a formal protest from the Netherlands after refusing entry to far-right Dutch lawmaker Geert Wilders, maker of a controversial film linking Islam to terrorist attacks.
