Arsenal Football Club is delighted to announce that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has joined the Gunners on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, 17, joins Arsenal from Championship side Southampton, where he made 44 first-team appearances during his long association with the south coast club.

Joining the Southampton Academy at the age of seven, Alex quickly excelled through the ranks of the club's successful youth set-up, making his first team debut in March 2010 at the age of just 16 years and 199 days. In doing so, Alex became the second youngest ever appearance maker for Southampton after Theo Walcott.

A quick, attacking player, Oxlade-Chamberlain played an integral role in Southampton's promotion campaign from League One in 2010/11, making 41 appearances and scoring 10 goals in the season. His impressive performances earned him a place in the PFA League One Team of the Year 2010/2011, voted by his fellow professionals.

Alex, who can operate on either wing or as an attacking central midfielder, has also represented England at Under-18, Under-19 and Under-21 levels.

After sealing the deal to bring the young prospect to Emirates Stadium, Arsène Wenger said: "We are delighted that Alex has decided to join us.

"He is an exciting young player who will provide us with creativity and offensive quality. Alex is a versatile player who can play in a number of positions. He can play as an attacking centre midfielder, or wide left and right.

"Alex is a perceptive passer of the ball and has a great understanding of the game and looks to be a very good team player."

Wenger continued: "Alex has done extremely well during his development with Southampton and we are looking forward to him progressing even further and fulfilling his huge potential with Arsenal Football Club."

Oxlade-Chamberlain, who celebrates his 18th birthday next Monday, said: "I'm so excited to be joining Arsenal. It's a fantastic club and I'm really looking forward to the opportunity of playing football at the highest level.

"Arsenal have a great manager in Arsène Wenger, top quality players and an attractive style of play. These were all important factors in me choosing to sign for Arsenal.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) A military helicopter crashed in eastern Afghanistan, killing 31 U.S. special operation troops and seven Afghan commandos, the country's president said Saturday. An American official said it was apparently shot down, in the deadliest single incident for American forces in the decade-long war.

The Taliban claimed they downed the helicopter with rocket fire while it was taking part in a raid on a house where insurgents were gathered in the province of Wardak late Friday. It said wreckage of the craft was strewn at the scene.

NATO confirmed the overnight crash took place and that there "was enemy activity in the area." But it said it was still investigating the cause and conducting a recovery operation at the site. It did not release details or casualty figures.

The family of a budding computer programmer have on Saturday launched a campaign to raise awareness about the health risks of playing online computer games after their son died following a marathon session on his Xbox.

A post-mortem revealed that 20-year-old Chris Staniforth -- who was offered a place to study Game Design at Leicester University -- was killed by a pulmonary embolism, which can occur if someone sits in the same position for several hours.

Deep vein thrombosis normally affects passengers on long-haul flights, but medical experts fear youngsters who spend hours glued to their consoles might also be at risk and have urged them to take regular breaks.

Professor Brian Colvin -- an expert on *la*hd-related conditions -- said it was "unhealthy" for youngsters to spend long periods in front of their consoles.

"There's anxiety about obesity and children not doing anything other than looking at computer screens," he told The Sun.

David Staniforth has now launched a campaign to warn other parents of the dangers.

"Games are fun and once you've started playing it's hard to stop.

"Kids all over the country are playing these games for long periods - they don't realise it could kill them," he told The Sun.

A coroner's court in Sheffield was told how the youngster -- who had no underlying medical conditions -- was complaining of a low heart rate before collapsing outside a Jobcentre.

Staniforth's distraught father said his son would spend up to 12 hours playing on his Xbox.

"He got sucked in playing Halo online against people from all over the world."

Online computer games are extremely popular as thousands interact in shared science fiction worlds.

Reports of gamers collapsing after spending 15 hours in front of video games are fairly common throughout Asia.

In 2005, a South Korean gamer died after playing online games for three days without taking a break.

Microsoft -- which manufactures the Xbox -- said it "recommend gamers take breaks to exercise as well as make time for other pursuits."

BRACO, Trelawny Four foreign nationals were killed yesterday while four other people including three UK residents last night remained in hospital following a terrible motor vehicle accident involving a minibus and a pickup along the Braco main road here in Trelawny.

Police identified the dead as Kathleen Rawlinson, 45, of a UK address; Talia Jones, a Canadian living in the UK; 17-year-old Caisie Mulla and the driver of the minibus, 49-year-old Gary Banford, also of the United Kingdom.

Bounty Killer made the admission during an interview on IRIE FM yesterday; insisting that the new song released byGully Squad member, Chase Crossentitled, Mash Up Everything, could potentially cause a rift within theGulliance & has stirred up even more tension between the Gully & Alliance affiliates. The song allegedly calls out the Grung Gaad, and other Alliance members with some of the songs lyrics seemingly referring to the aftermath following the incident involvingMavado & his entourage outside Killers birthday party at the QUADnightclub last month. Chases manager later insisted that his song was speaking to his true feelings; alluding to perceived negative comment made by Alliance following his friends death.

Bounty commented during the interview that he felt disrespected & offended by Chases song; even more so because he knows that that Chase Cross couldnt record such a song without an official seal of approval from the Gully Squads founder, Mavado. Reportedly, the War Lord is encouraging Mavado to break his silence & elaborate on the recent tension between the Gully & Alliance camps. 'It's time to go!' the Snowman tells MTV News of long-awaited album's September 20 drop date.

Young Jeezy is ready to go. After numerous delays and setbacks, the Snowman tells MTV News that the release date for his next solo album, TM 103, is set in stone. "It's locked, it's dead-locked. It's time to go! September 20, how y'all want it," he said.

The album - Jeezy's fourth and the third in his Thug Motivation series - first started creating a buzz in 2009, when it was expected to be given a 2010 release. Singles like "Lose My Mind," "All White Everything," "Jizzle" and the Lil Wayne-assisted "Ballin' " came and went, while the album remained in limbo. But on Monday night at his New York City concert celebrating the six-year anniversary of his debut album, Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101, Jeezy announced the rock-solid September 20 date. 

Backstage at a second TM 101 show in Atlanta on Tuesday, Jeezy explained that he wasn't about to tarnish his reputation as an artist just to make that 2010 release date. "One thing you gotta know about Young is I'm three for three," he said, speaking of the quality of his previous albums. "I'm on my own time. I'm the boss - I'm not rushing myself for nothing. 

"At the end of the day, I'm not about to give nobody no music to make a deadline, I'm gonna give them something to live and die by. If it ain't classic, it ain't monumental, I don't want to be a part of it. I make hits, man. I make classics. I can't just give somebody something just 'cause it's time. It's better late than never baby, trust."

Jeezy is particularly excited about his new single "Shake Life." The track, which was produced by Lil Lody, samples from Toto's 1978 song "Georgy Porgy" and on it, Jeezy raps about how he was counted out of the game, the war in Iraq and the ills of his former Atlanta neighborhood. "I just put out 'Shake Life,' it's crazy. It's a special record to me," he said. "It's just one of those records to uplift. But if you're worried about club bangers, I got an album full of those %&%*s, too easy." 

Charles N'Zogbia has completed his move from Wigan to Aston Villa after agreeing personal terms on a five-year deal at Villa Park.

The two clubs settled on a fee, reported to be about £9.5m, for the 25-year-old winger on Monday, after Villa's initial bid was turned down.

"I am really happy and excited to sign for Aston Villa," said N'Zogbia.

"It is a great club and a really big step for me in my career, so I am sure I will enjoy my football here."

N'Zogbia scored 15 goals in 83 Premier League appearances for Wigan after an offer of Ryan Taylor and a reported £6m fee secured his services from Newcastle in January 2009.

Five of those goals came in the left-sided attacker's final six Premier League matches for the club as the Latics avoided relegation on the final day of the season.

His goal-scoring run extended to France's friendly against Poland in June in which his first international goal was the difference between the sides.

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez believes that his departure has come at the right time for all parties.

"We're all disappointed to lose a player like Charles N'Zogbia, who has been fantastic for Wigan Athletic over the past two years," he said.

"Now is the time for him to move on to a club who have matched the market valuation for him and allow us to move on reinvest and take our football club onto another level."

Villa's purchase of N'Zogbia's has been funded by the departure of their own big names, with Ashley Young leaving for Manchester United and Stewart Downing sold to Liverpool.

It is new manager Alex McLeish's second foray into the transfer market this summer after the signing of goalkeeper Shay Given, a former Newcastle team-mate of N'Zogbia's, from Manchester City.

Sergio Aguero says he has joined a club that will be "fighting every year to win major trophies" after completing his move from Atletico Madrid to Manchester City.

The Argentina international arrived in England on Wednesday to finalise the transfer for a reported £38m.

On Thursday evening the club announced Aguero had signed a five-year deal.

The club said the striker, 23, was likely to be in their squad for the weekend's Dublin Super Cup tournament.

Aguero, who will wear number 16, told City's official website: "I think we are a team that in future will be fighting every year to win major trophies.

"When we were talking I asked my agents to do everything they could because this was a good club and I'd always wanted to play in the Premier League. It felt right.

"I don't think I'll have too many problems settling into the team. I'll obviously be doing my best to do what the manager asks and try to work the way he wants me to."

Asked about adjusting to life in England, he added: "Firstly I don't like very hot weather so on that side of things I'll be ok. I'm sure I'm going to enjoy myself here and life will be fine."

Earlier on Thursday, Aguero had Tweeted: "I'm already a City player. Happy to be in this club and this city."

City pressed on with the move despite the collapse of Carlos Tevez's proposed switch to Corinthians.

The striker, nicknamed 'Kun', also interested Real Madrid and Juventus but has become the most expensive signing in City's history, eclipsing the £32.5m paid for Robinho in 2008.

Neither Real nor Juventus met Atletico's valuation of the striker.

Aguero flew in from Buenos Aires, via Heathrow, early on Wednesday morning and went straight to a private Manchester hospital to undergo his medical.

He then had a brief stop at City's stadium in the early evening, and, after holding discussions with City officials, he happily signed autographs for the growing crowd of fans who had gathered.

Corinthians, meanwhile, pulled out of their bid to take Tevez back to Brazil last week after initially agreeing a £38.6m transfer.

That translated as 40m euros plus 4m euros in add-ons and City were happy to accept payment in instalments as part of the deal, but Corinthians were unable or unwilling to provide the customary bank guarantees associated with a deal of such magnitude.

Tevez's desire to leave City remains as strong as ever, but he may face an added complication as City are unlikely to accept a similar fee to that offered by Corinthians from any of the top European clubs considering an approach for the 27-year-old Argentine.
