Heineken Green Synergy elimination kicks off today

By Dave Lindo

Friday, July 10, 2009

The Heineken Green Synergy competition heats up today with the first elimination on FAME FM with DJ Zailant going up against Super O and Ras Lee doing battle with DJ Shines in the second contest.

Ras Lee (left) with his mentor Jack Scorpio.

The first match-up which gets on the way at 7:00 pm should be an interesting affair, with Zailant and Super O looking evenly poised.

Zailant, a first-time entrant from Portmore, St Catherine is oozing with confidence going into the match-up, "I am feeling good at this time, I am well prepared. I think I can do it (win), my friends and family are rooting for me and if I don't go through they are going to beat me," the Kingston College old boy said jokingly.

Super O of Super Clubs Hedonism 11 and a resident of Hanover, is equally confident. As to what people can expect from him, he said, "It's gonna be a drop-jaw set. Just some crazy scratching and cuts. I am not coming to just match beats or mix, because when I am playing I tell a story with my music." He added, "My friends and family are also backing me so I feel good about that."

The other match-up from all indication will be one not to be missed as last year's quarter- finalist DJ Shine from Spanish Town will be looking to turn back the challenge of the 'vibes man' Ras Lee from St Ann.

Last year DJ Shine did very well in the competition but was knocked out by DJ Cide in the quarter-finals.
He is looking to go all the way this time around. "I am prepared and ready for it. Everything is going just perfect right now. My mixing is on point. It's a much-improved DJ Shine this year."

Commenting on his rival Ras Lee, he said, "I don't know much about him. I know he entered last year and he must have improved to have gone through this year."

DJ Shine auditioned in Kingston and looked really impressive in his set. He is mentored in the competition by the big bad selector Ricky Trooper, many times World Clash champion.

Ras Lee has shown that he is a determined individual as after failing to make the cut at the Ocho Rios audition, he journeyed to the Portland audition the following day and put forward a much- improved set which got the nod from the judges.

His mentor is legendary sound system operator, producer Jack Scorpio who spoke highly of his charge.

"He came by me last night (Wednesday night) and worked out on my sound system. I think he has a wonderful chance," Jack Scorpio said. "He has his thing organised, he is a crowd pleaser. What I like about him is, being a hardcore dancehall man myself, he has that flair. He represents for our music being dancehall/ reggae more than the other entrants. He is doing well to carry across our culture."

Each DJ will play a 25-minute segment which should span across the different genres.

At this stage the judges will have a 66 per cent rate in deciding who advances to the quarter-final while the public voting will cover 34 per cent.

You can vote for your favourite DJs by texting or calling 444- MYDJ or 444-6935. Voting closes at 12 noon on Monday.

Trade unions are reacting to a newspaper report that the national airline Air Jamaica has been sold.

Government this week received recommendations of a divestment committee, set up to sell the airline, but the news paper report today said the offer of the owners of spirit airlines has been accepted.

No announcement has come from the government.

Senior negotiating officer of the National Workers Union Granville Valentine says he is concerned that the unions were not informed about the sale of the airline.

He says there is a urgent need for a meeting with minister without portfolio in the finance ministry Senator Don Wehby who has the responsibility for the divestment of air Jamaica, before the sale of the airline is settled.

Air Jamaica owes billions of dollars in debt and the Bruce Golding administration put it as a priority to sell the airline.

Bounty Turns Self In

July 10, 2009
Started By seanp0 Comments

Popular deejay Bounty Killer, whose real name is Rodney Price, is to appear in the Gun Court today following a ruling by the director of public prosecutions (DPP) to have him charged in connection with an assault incident in New Kingston in September 2007.

Price, accompanied by his lawyer, Tom Tavares-Finson, and manager, Julian Jones-Griffiths, turned himself in at the Half-Way Tree Police Station yesterday and was taken into custody.

The deejay, who is known for songs such as Poor People Governor, Fed Up, Suspense and Lodge, maintained his composure as he entered the station about 10 a.m. He was later slapped with illegal possession of firearm, assault at common law and unlawful wounding.

Detective Corporal Garth Watson of the Half-Way Tree CIB told THE STAR that the artiste is accused of being involved in a gun-related incident with a policeman.

altercation

It is alleged that on September 27, 2007, Bounty Killer and a group of men assaulted the complainant along St Lucia Avenue. "They had an altercation and during the altercation, it is alleged that Bounty Killer pulled a firearm and hit the complainant with it," the corporal said.

A warrant has also been issued for the arrest of former policeman Chalice Bowen, who was a member of Price's entourage that night. The detective said Price's arrest was delayed because of the procedure of the DPP.

"A file was sent to the director of public prosecutions and a ruling was sent for him to be charged. The process was delayed due to the normal proceedings of the office," he added.

Both Price and his lawyer remained confident about the situation. Tavares-Finson said he believes it will only be a matter of time before his client will be freed of all the charges. "We are confident that in the long run, he (Bounty Killer) will be vindicated by the court after the process is finished. We will be going to Gun Court tomorrow (today) and I will apply for a bail," he said.

off-duty cop

The incident is alleged to have occurred about 4:50 a.m. on the day in question. Reports are that an off-duty policeman left a club on St Lucia Avenue in New Kingston and is said to have seen a number of vehicles blocking a section of the roadway. Several men, including Bounty Killer, Bowen and the late dancer David 'Ice' Smith, were allegedly at the scene.

The policeman tried to get the men to move the vehicles but was reportedly assaulted and fired at.

A report was later submitted to the New Kingston police, which resulted in a file being sent to the DPP.

Price already has two cases before the courts. A July 29 trial date is scheduled for a matter before the Traffic Court where he is charged with obstructing traffic and breaking a red light.

In the second case, he is accused of assaulting a pregnant woman on May 20 and was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm. He will be tried on September 10.

It ain't safe no more! They're all getting nekkid!

South Carolina girl, 8, dies after two shots to head

CHESNEE, S.C. A man put an 8-year-old girl in a headlock Wednesday and shot her to death, then shot himself in the stomach, authorities said.

The girl's father is dating Ricky Lee Blackwell's estranged wife. Spartanburg County deputies said Blackwell shot the girl twice in the driveway of a home where he had taken her and his estranged wife to swim and play. The home is in Chesnee, about 60 miles southwest of Charlotte, N.C.

Several adults and children saw the shooting and pointed officers toward Blackwell, investigators said.

Blackwell shot himself as police closed in. He was taken to a hospital but his condition wasn't released.

The coroner's office identified the girl as Heather Brooke Center of Woodruff.

Investigators said they weren't sure of Blackwell's motive.

"I don't know where you can go in the mind to justify shooting a child," said Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright. "I don't understand how you can get so angry."

The sheriff said Blackwell, 50, has a long criminal record. He was charged with murder and kidnapping. No one answered his phone Wednesday night.

"As soon as they called his name, I knew him," Wright said. "I'd heard that boy's name before."

Rihanna just can't catch a break now can she? According to sources, Rihanna may be arrested for tattooing civilians. Anyone who is anyone knows that Rihanna has a slight obsession with body art, so much so that she has decided to become a student to the pen, the tattooing pen that is. Apparently during her tattoo lessons, she decided to give 3 of her fans her own signature tattoo that consisted of an umbrella with the letter "R" under it. Though this is an act that deserves an applause the NYPD is looking to slap some cuffs on her wrist. The New York Police Department and the NYC Health Department are looking into Rihanna tattooing without a license. The agency told gossip site,TMZ, that "only licensed tattoo artists can administer tattoos in the city according to the City's Health Code. We are sending someone down to follow up on this."

Popular graffiti personality and dancehall artiste/enigma L.A. Lewis has been arrested.

The Star has learnt that the artiste and head of L.A. Lewis Enterprise was arrested on Saturday and slapped with charges of housebreaking, larceny and assault occasioning bodily harm.

Female artiste

The Half-Way Tree police told THE STAR yesterday that Lewis was arrested in relation to a December 2008 incident involving a female artiste who he was promoting. The name of that artiste is currently being withheld.

The police said while they could not disclose detailed information relating to the incident, Lewis was informed that he needed to report to the Half-Way Tree police following the December episode, but failed to do so. As a result, he was picked up last Saturday. Lewis is now awaiting an attorney, after which he will be questioned.

Scamming her

Earlier this month, The Star published a story in which a female artiste, who was a former member of the L.A. Lewis Enterprise, accused him of scamming her of more than $600,000 in addition to possessing her motor car. The police source, however, would not say if Lewis' arrest was linked to this. Attempts to contact that female artiste were unsuccessful.

Kanye West caused a stir at the launch party of his new album by inviting 40 naked models to attend.

The rapper unveiled his eagerly anticipated fourth album 808s and Heartbreak 'due to be released in November 'at a lavish bash at Los Angeles'Ace Gallery on Tuesday, but guests were amazed to find the room full of nude beauties wearing masks.

A source said: 'After waiting in an area with an open bar and a DJ, we walked up a driveway illuminated by fluorescent lights to a darkened room where we saw 40 nude women. Most of them were wearing strange masks made of wool.

'The models stood in the middle of the room 'black girls at the front and white girls at the back. Then the entire album played without any introduction or explanation.'

Kanye insists the women were 'live performance artists'who appeared as part of an arranged art show he masterminded with Italian artist Vanessa Beecroft.

After the playback 'in front of 700 fans and industry professionals 'had finished, Kanye appeared alongside the models and launched a foul-mouthed tirade against critics who are considering giving the album a negative review.

He said: 'These are pieces of real life that I'm putting out for people to judge. It's from my heart.

'I don't give a .... if someone rates it 'hot'or 'not.'I'm here to bring positivity that cannot be judged. It's like judging a grandmother's love.'

The star also revealed plans to release another full-length album next summer and explained new song Cold As Winter is a tribute to his mother, who died following complications from cosmetic surgery operation late last year.

noMass. sues feds over definition of marriage

BOSTON Massachusetts is suing the federal government over a law that defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

State Attorney General Martha Coakley filed the lawsuit Wednesday in federal court in Boston. It says the federal Defense of Marriage Act interferes with the right of Massachusetts to define marriage as it sees fit.

The 1996 federal law denies federal recognition of gay marriage. Massachusetts was the first state to allow the practice.

The Boston-based Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders has already sued over the federal law. It says it discriminates against gay couples and is unconstitutional because it denies them access to federal benefits that other married couples receive.

Several persons in Stewart Town, St Ann, on Monday had to rush to the aid of an elderly vendor who was said to have been attacked and slapped across the face several times by a young man who said she short-changed him by $10.

Information reaching THE STAR is that a group of people had to restrain the 23-year-old man who was ranting that he was cheated after purchasing cigarettes from the woman.

given change

According to reports, about 5:30 p.m., the 65-year-old woman sold a number of cigarettes to the accused man. He was given change but claimed it was short by $10.

The elderly vendor is said to have told the man that she had checked the money before handing it to him.

An argument developed during which the woman was slapped several times and had to be saved from being further abused by a number of persons who were nearby and witnessed the ordeal.

It is said further claimed that the woman's attacker even threatened to hit her with a stone when she attempted to escape from the abuse.

in custody

The man, now in custody in relation to the incident, is Jason McGee of a Steer Town address, also in the parish. He is expected to be charged with assault today.

Corporal Wesley Banton of the Area Two police told THE STAR that McGee was accosted and handed over to the police.

"Persons at the scene ran to the woman's help after the stone was picked up. He (McGee) was held and the police alerted who later took him into custody," Corporal Banton said.

Four persons were shot, one fatally, in the volatile Jacques Road community of Mountain View, east Kingston, yesterday.

The dead man has been identified as 23-year-old Kurt Hussy, a resident of the community.

Reports are that some time after 3 p.m., Hussy was making his way from his mother's home when he was attacked by heavily armed men.

Three other persons were also shot and injured during the incident.

heavy gunfire

It is also reported that police and military personnel who were deployed to the community afterwards came under heavy gunfire.

Police sources attribute the murder to an ongoing feud between thugs from Jacques Road and nearby Goodridge Lane.

THE STAR was told that the war is not fuelled by politics, as both communities are staunch supporters of the same party.

At the centre of the conflict is a tussle over who should gain control of the guns, drugs and other illegal activities.

One thug from Jacques Road, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said yesterday's incident is linked to the murder of a 22-year-old man from Goodridge Lane, who was shot and killed and his head severed.

"When the war did flare up last time inna May, a youth did get flush and dem did all cut off him head ... A jus through police did a pree di place why nuh retaliation neva gwaan from dem time deh," the thug explained.

That murder was more than two months ago, but the head of the victim, Robert Watkin, is yet to be found.

Head of the Kingston East Police Division, Superintendent Michael Bailey, told THE STAR that the police were aware of the conflict between the two communities.

"There is an ongoing conflict between Jacques Road and Goodridge Lane over guns, drugs and turf," Superintendent Bailey said, after noting that the police will be remaining in the area to quell any further disturbance.

Benbow' killed on way to court?

July 9, 2009
Started By STUWY772 Comments

Joseph 'Joe Benbow' Barrett, 32, the reputed leader of the notorious Jones Town-based Joe Benbow gang, was fatally shot as he was making his way to court yesterday, THE STAR was told.

A police source disclosed to THE STAR that Barrett had reported to the Port Royal Police Station that morning as a condition of bail for a gun seizure and shooting matter he was implicated in.

The source further said that Barrett left the station and was making his way to court when he challenged the lawmen along the Port Royal main road. The officer could not say which offence Barrett was going to court for yesterday, but noted that the deceased had more court appearances on July 29 and September 1.

blazing gun battle

According to police reports, Barrett and another man, Tafari Murphy, otherwise called 'Titto', of Harry Street, Port Royal, were involved in a blazing gun battle with lawmen near the lighthouse along the Palisadoes main road.

The reports state that about 9:15 a.m., a police team on special duty along Port Royal main road signalled the driver of a Toyota Altis motor car, registered 5598 FK, to stop.

The driver reportedly obeyed and two men alighted with guns and opened fire at the lawmen, who returned the fire. Barrett and Murphy were found suffering from gunshot wounds after the shooting ended.

semi-automatic pistol

A Smith and Wesson semi-automatic pistol, serial number PBB4073, was taken from Barrett's hand, while a Lorcin semi-automatic pistol, serial number L058304 with three rounds of ammunition, was taken from Murphy.

Barrett was out on bail after being accused of illegally importing a shipment of guns into the island. The police intercepted a package containing four 9mm pistols and 26 rounds of ammunition at the airport in Kingston. Barrett and two others were subsequently charged after the October 17 seizure.

murders and shootings

Police sources have linked the Joe Benbow gang to several murders and shootings.

Among those was a deadly attack along Elgin Road, St Andrew, in which three people were slain last August. Reports are that the gunmen in that attack sent an apology to the grieving family days after the killings, saying they killed the wrong persons.

(CNN) -- Dr. Arnie Klein, dermatologist to the stars, had a long-term association with Michael Jackson. The professor of medicine and dermatology at UCLA was also Jackson's friend.

Dr. Arnold Klein talks about his long relationship with Michael Jackson on CNN's "Larry King Live."

Some are speculating that Klein is also the biological father of Jackson's children.

In a wide-ranging interview with CNN's Larry King on Wednesday night, Klein addresses those allegations, along with issues such as Jackson's skin diseases, what he knew about Jackson's drug use, medications he prescribed, his thoughts on Debbie Rowe and much more.

The following interview has been edited for brevity and clarity:

Larry King: Doctor, how did you first meet Michael?

Dr. Arnie Klein, Michael Jackson's dermatologist: I met Michael because someone had brought him into my office. I took one look at him, and I said you have lupus erythematosus.

King: Lupus?

Klein: Lupus, yes. He had a red butterfly rash, and he also had severe crusting you could see on the scalp. ... So I then did a biopsy. I diagnosed lupus. And then our relationship went from there.

King: Let's fast forward. You saw him the Monday before he died. What was the purpose of the visit?

Klein: He came to me because, basically, I was sort of rebuilding his face, because he had severe acne and scarring. He had scarring from having a lot of cosmetic surgery. ... I was rebuilding his face so he looked much more normal. And contrary to what people said, he could not take off his nose. His nose was attached. But it looked too small.

King: Did he consult you when he was doing his plastic surgery?

Klein: No. I mean I came onto the scene long after he'd begun plastic surgery. In fact, what I wanted to do is stop it because I felt that we were losing body parts in the situation. ...

King: How would you describe Michael's mental, physical condition on that Monday?

Klein: He was dancing in the office. So he was in very good physical condition.

King: Do you know why he even started the plastic surgery?

Klein: I can't definitively say. But I know that people made fun -- or family members -- of the size of his nose. He was very sensitive to that.

King: Was Michael in any kind of pain when you saw him?

Klein: Not whatsoever.

King: Did you see any evidence of needle marks on this visit?

Klein: Well, I didn't examine his entire body.

King: Had you seen any in prior exams?

Klein: No, I never saw needle marks on his body.

King: Reports [were] he was emaciated.

Klein: He wasn't emaciated. I've worked with dancers many times, and dancers are very concerned about their weight. And so I knew that he always wanted to be thin. And I talked to him about eating enough and making sure he didn't over-exercise.

King: What was the strongest medication you gave him?

Klein: On occasion, [I] gave him Demerol to sedate him. And that was about the strongest medicine I ever used.

King: Did Michael have an addiction you were aware of?

Klein: Michael, at one time, had an addiction. And he went to England and he withdrew that addiction at a secure setting, where he went off of drugs altogether. And what I told Michael when I met him in this present situation when I was seeing him, that I had to keep reducing the dosage of what he was on, because he came to me with a huge tolerance level.

King: [Let's discuss] Diprivan.

Klein: It's a wonderful drug when used correctly.

King: It is. And it's used by anesthesiologists. What would it be doing in someone's house?

Klein: I have no idea. And that's what doesn't make sense to me.

King: How would you buy Diprivan?

Klein: Well, you can get it from an anesthesiologist.

King: Did Michael tell you he used Diprivan?

Klein: I knew at one point that he was using Diprivan when he was on tour in Germany. And so he was using it, with an anesthesiologist, to go to sleep at night. And I told him he was absolutely insane. I said you have to understand that this drug, you can't repeatedly take.

King: How could a reasonable anesthesiologist give that to someone other than prior to surgery?

Klein: Because I have to tell you, there are certain people in this world who are not reasonable.

King: Are you surprised Diprivan was found in his home, supposedly?

Klein: I am very shocked by it.

King: Did you ever see any IV type equipment in his house?

Klein: Never.

King: What is vitiligo?

Klein: It's a loss of pigment cells. It's an autoimmune disease and lupus is an autoimmune disease. And they tend to go together, because you make antibodies against your pigment cells.

King: Did Michael have it?

Klein: Absolutely.

King: Do black people have it more than white people?

Klein: No. But it's just more visible on black people, because they have dark skin.

King: How bad was his?

Klein: Oh, his was bad because he began to get a totally speckled look over his body.

King: So let's clear up something. He was not someone desirous of being white?

Klein: No. Michael was black. He was very proud of his black heritage. He changed the world for black people.

King: What you can tell us about his changing face?

Klein: When I met him, he had done a decent bit of surgery by then.

King: Did you ever say to Michael, we're going too far?

Klein: I stopped him from going to the surgeon because I said this isn't working anymore, you have to stop it. And what I spent the last part of the year doing is rebuilding a lot of things that I thought were done poorly.

King: Is it true that he wanted to look like Peter Pan?

Klein: I don't think he wanted to look like Peter Pan. I didn't see him implanting wings on the back of his back or doing anything like that, right?

King: All right, what about the nose?

Klein: The nose was a very special thing, because his father and his brothers supposedly, from what I've read, made fun of his nose all the time. So he was very sensitive to the nose. And...

King: What was wrong with his nose?

Klein: I originally didn't think there was much wrong with his nose. I thought he had a nice-looking nose. But it got to the point where it was far too thin. It didn't look natural to me.

King: Now, you helped him rebuild it?

Klein: I rebuilt it, yes.

King: Now, the Debbie Rowe part of the story. She was your nurse, right?

Klein: Yes.

King: They met in your office?

Klein: Yes.

King: Was that a real love affair?

Klein: I don't know what love is in that sense of the imagination. I think that she loves him very much. She admired him very much.

King: It was not a sexual relationship?

Klein: I think they did have sex.

King: You do?

Klein: Yes, I really do, [but] I can't guarantee that. I think they did have sex in their relationship.

King: You think Michael ever had sex to father the children?

Klein: I don't know that answer, because I would think that it's possible that he did. You can't guarantee that. You can only guarantee things you see.

King: Now, what about all the rumors about you and the fathering of those children?

Klein: Here's the most important thing. Michael loved those children as a father. Those children loved him as a father. As far as I am concerned, that's the most important grouping that is.

King: That's not answering the question.

Klein: No, because I'm not going to answer it the way you want me to answer it, because ...

King: Well, you can say no.

Klein: I can say no, then. I will say no if that's what you want to hear.

King: No, I want to hear what you know.

Klein: What I will tell you is I think what's most important thing about this whole thing, to end this thing, is that the most important thing in who the father is ... who the children want their father to be. And I will tell you this, I will say no, because the most important person to these children is how Michael loved them and how he loved his children and how they loved him. ... I still can't answer it absolutely one way or another.

King: So that means you donated sperm?

Klein: I once donated sperm. I don't know that you have to know...

King: You donated to him.

Klein: No, absolutely not.

King: Oh, you donated sperm to a sperm bank.

Klein: Once, to a sperm bank. But I don't think I should go over my legal affairs, because I think to the best of my knowledge, I'm not the father. I want to tell you that this discussion, however, is between Michael, his children and this person. It's not to be discussed who the father is over national television.

King: You don't feel you have to take a DNA test to prove anything?

Klein: If they want me to take a DNA test, they can have my DNA. I don't care at this point. My concern is his kids because I've never met children like this. These are the brightest children I've ever met, the best behaved children I've ever met. I don't want to destroy this relationship in any way, shape or form. I'll tell you this, no matter what, I will protect these children.

King: Did you go to the memorial service?

Klein: I couldn't, I watched it on television and it was still too emotional for me.

King: How did the story, you think, surface about you and fatherhood? Where did that come from?

Klein: I don't have any idea whether it came from ... Debbie Rowe, I have no idea.

King: Could it have come from Debbie Rowe?

Klein: Absolutely, because I phoned her as soon as Michael passed away. My greatest concern was what was going to happen to the children.

King: Do you think she should get custody?

Klein: I don't know if she should get custody. I'm very worried that the custody may go into a situation that is incorrect. I think the most important thing is there's this woman Grace who was their nanny, who is incredible. She should remain their nanny and help raise the children.

advertisement

King: Have you gone to see the family?

Klein: I have not gone to see the family because I didn't want to go see the family because I had difficulty with Jesse Jackson because I don't know him very well nor Al Sharpton who I didn't know very well. And once the family invites me to visit them, I'll most certainly visit them so I get to see the children.

Beenie Man - Contributed

One of the biggest dancehall acts in Jamaica today, 'The Doctor', Beenie Man will take the stage for the 16th staging of the Caribbean's largest one-night roots reggae festival, Rebel Salute, set for Saturday, January 17, at the Port Kaiser Sports Club in St Elizabeth.

Beenie Man will appear as 'Ras Moses' and is expected to illustrate his mastery at all types of Jamaican music as well as give emphasis to his strong Rastafarian consciousness with powerful hits such as Product of the Ghetto, Progress, Come Clear yuh Heart and Mama Cry.

Although the affable and charming deejay Beenie Man has graced the Rebel Salute stage several times, having made impromptu appearances over the years, this is the first time he is officially billed as a performer on Rebel Salute.

It's not very often that a hardcore dancehall artiste finds his way on to Rebel Salute, a massive roots affair which celebrates Rastafarian lifestyle, culture, cuisine, spirituality and the best of Jamaican roots reggae.

But Beenie Man is no purist dancehall act.

Asked why after 15 years he has billed Beenie Man for Rebel Salute 16, promoter of Rebel Salute, entertainer Tony Rebel had this to say: "Beenie Man always wanted to perform on Rebel Salute. He is often in attendance at Rebel Salute and sometimes touch the stage. So him tell me to put him on Rebel Salute. But Beenie Man loves music, all types of music. He sees and respects the quality of show and as a good entertainer he wants to be a part of that. I saw him perform on Western Consciousness and other shows, so I know that he has a body of work well suited for the Rebel Salute stage."

Several hardcore dancehall artistes who have performed on Rebel Salute in previous years include Assassin, Busy Signal, Demarco, Wayne Marshall, Flourgon, Michigan and Smiley and Charlie Chaplin.

According to Tony Rebel, "Rebel Salute is about love and unity, not confrontation and war. Although the genres are separated, it's Jamaican music, and it's a part of us. We have to find ways to incorporate dancehall and dancehall artistes when we celebrate positive Jamaican music. But because of the royal nature of Rebel Salute, we have to make sure that the artistes we select for the show live up to the standards of Rebel Salute."

Other dancehall acts set to perform on Rebel Salute 2009 include Lady G, Courtney Melody, Sanchez and roots-dancehall artistes Capleton, Queen Ifrica, I-Octane and Chuck Fendah.

As we previosuly reported 50 Cent gave a little more to his community on Monday, November 3, 2008. He and actress/singer Bette Midler were in the New York City borough of Queens for the grand opening of the Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson Community Garden on Foch Boulevard.

The garden features plenty of flowers, a vegetable garden, a community area where people can have barbecues and movies will be shown and also a rainwater-collection system. Instead of paying for water to be shipped in, the garden collects water and sends it into a tank underground, from which it can then be pumped. Fittingly, the garden was designed by a man named Professor Walter Hood, a professor of landscape architecture at the University of California at Berkeley.

For Fif, it was a chance to give back to the neighborhood he grew up in and to help his youngest fans.

One of MediaTakeOut.com's readers sent in these photos. They are allegedly of Michael Jackson exposing a skin condition that he suffers from.

If you look closely at the close up photos, you can see that there is still some melanin remaining on Michael's legs.

Pretty nasty though ...

TMZ:

We have learned that Adrienne Bailon of The Cheetah Girls is a victim of a crazy extortion plot.

Several practically nude photos have been stolen from Adrienne's laptop, and sources tell us the scumbag who took 'em is trying to shop them around to the highest bidder.

It all started when Bailon was at JFK airport in late October, and noticed her laptop computer was missing from her bell cart. She filed a report with the Port Authority -- but later that day her record label received an anonymous phone call from a man saying he had her laptop and would return it for $1000.

A meeting was set up at JFK with the anonymous man, where he was given the money, and in turn gave up Bailon's missing laptop ... except one minor thing was missing -- several semi-nude photos of Bailon she had taken as an anniversary present for BF Robert Kardashian.

Calls to Adrienne's rep have not been returned.

After the sudden death of Michael Jackson Evan Chandler tells the truth.

In 1993, Chandler told a psychiatrist and police that he and Jackson had engaged in sexual acts that included oral sex, the boy gave detailed description of Jacksons genitals. The case was settled out of court for a reported $22 million, but the strain led Jackson to begin taking painkillers. Eventually he became addicted.

Now maybe for the remorse of his death Chandler decides to tell us the truth. I never meant to lie and destroy Michael Jackson but my father made me to tell only lies. Now i cant tell Michael how much im sorry and if he will forgive me .Evan Chandler was tape-recorded saying amongst other things, If I go through with this, I win big-time. Theres no way I lose. I will get everything I want and they will be destroyed forever

Under the influence of a controversial father (Jordan Chandler) told his son to tell that Jackson had touched his penis.Jordan Chandler then told a psychiatrist and later police that he and Jackson had engaged in acts of kissing, masturbation and oral sex, as well as giving a detailed description of what he alleged were the singers genitals.
Now for the first time i cant bare to lie anymore. Michael Jackson didnt do anything to me, all was my father lies to escape from being poor.

Did NKorea attack U.S. government web sites?Play Video AP   Did NKorea attack U.S. government web sites?

SEOUL, South Korea South Korean intelligence officials believe North Korea or pro-Pyongyang forces committed cyber attacks that paralyzed major South Korean and U.S. government Web sites, aides to two lawmakers said Wednesday.

The sites of 11 South Korean organizations, including the presidential Blue House and the Defense Ministry, went down or had access problems since late Tuesday, according to the state-run Korea Information Security Agency. Agency spokeswoman Ahn Jeong-eun said 11 U.S. sites suffered similar problems. She said the agency is investigating the case with police and prosecutors.

In the U.S., the Treasury Department, Secret Service, Federal Trade Commission and Transportation Department Web sites were all down at varying points over the July 4 holiday weekend and into this week, according to American officials inside and outside the government.

Others familiar with the U.S. outage, which is called a denial of service attack, said that the fact that the government Web sites were still being affected three days after it began signaled an unusually lengthy and sophisticated attack. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak on the matter.

The Korea Information Security Agency also attributed the attacks to denial of service.

Yang Moo-jin, a professor at Seoul's University of North Korean Studies, said he doubts whether the impoverished North has the capability to knock down the Web sites.

But Hong Hyun-ik, an analyst at the Sejong Institute think tank, said the attack could have been done by either North Korea or China, saying he "heard North Korea has been working hard to hack into" South Korean networks.

On Wednesday, the National Intelligence Service told a group of South Korean lawmakers it believes that North Korea or North Korean sympathizers "were behind" the attacks, according to an aide to one of lawmakers who was briefed on the information.

An aide to another lawmaker who was briefed also said the NIS suspects North Korea or its followers were responsible.

The aides spoke on condition of anonymity and refused to allow the names of the lawmakers they work for to be published, citing the classified nature of the information.

Both aides said the information was delivered in writing to lawmakers who serve on the National Assembly's intelligence committee.

The National Intelligence Service South Korea's main spy agency declined to confirm the information.

South Korea's Yonhap news agency said military intelligence officers were looking at the possibility that the attack may have been committed by North Korean hackers and pro-North Korea forces in South Korea. South Korea's Defense Ministry said it could not confirm the report.

Earlier Wednesday, the NIS said in a statement that 12,000 computers in South Korea and 8,000 computers overseas had been infected and used for the cyber attack.

The agency said it believed the attack was "thoroughly" prepared and committed by hackers "at the level of a certain organization or state." It said it was cooperating with the American investigators to examine the case.

South Korean media reported in May that North Korea was running a cyber warfare unit that tries to hack into U.S. and South Korean military networks to gather confidential information and disrupt service.

An initial investigation in South Korea found that many personal computers were infected with a virus program ordering them to visit major official Web sites in South Korea and the U.S. at the same time, Korean information agency official Shin Hwa-su said. There has been no immediate reports of similar cyber attack in other Asian countries.

Yonhap said that prosecutors have found some of the cyber attacks on the South Korean sites were accessed from overseas. Yonhap, citing an unnamed prosecution official, said the cyber attack used a method common to Chinese hackers.

Prosecutors were not immediately available for comment.

Shin, the Information Security Agency official, said the initial probe had not yet uncovered evidence about where the cyber outages originated. Police also said they had not discovered where the outages originated. Police officer Jeong Seok-hwa said that could take several days.

Some of the South Korean sites remained unstable or inaccessible Wednesday. The site of the presidential Blue House could be accessed, but those for the Defense Ministry, the ruling Grand National Party and the National Assembly could not.

Ahn said there were no immediate reports of financial damage or leaking of confidential national information. The alleged attacks appeared aimed only at paralyzing Web sites, she said.

South Korea's Defense Ministry and Blue House said that there has been no leak of any documents.

Official: LA detective from King trial kills self By SUE MANNING, Associated Press Writer Sue Manning, Associated Press Writer 5 mins ago LOS ANGELES A veteran Los Angeles police detective who testified at the Rodney King trial killed herself after walking into the lobby of a suburban sheriff's station, authorities said Tuesday. Susan Clemmer, 41, was a gang narcotics officer who worked for the department for nearly 20 years, sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said. She was unmarried. "She walked in with a box of personal items and placed it on the counter," Whitmore said. He declined to describe the items because they are part of the investigation into the 9 p.m. Monday shooting at the Santa Clarita station, about 35 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles, . A pregnant deputy tried to help Clemmer before the shooting, but Clemmer wouldn't talk to her, Whitmore said. A male deputy did have a conversation with Clemmer. "He was concerned about how she was behaving," Whitmore said. "The deputy left the lobby and heard a single gunshot." The deputy returned and discovered the body of the detective, who was pronounced dead at the scene. No other deputies were hurt, and no other shots were fired, Whitmore said. Clemmer, among the first witnesses to testify in the King trial, rode in the ambulance with King after his beating on March 3, 1991. She testified he was laughing and spitting *lo** on her uniform, and that she heard him cursing at officers after the beating. She also testified that Officer Laurence Powell was breathless when she arrived just moments after the beating. Asked to relate Powell's remarks, she said she wasn't sure if he was talking to her or another policeman. "He said, 'I was scared. The guy threw me off his back. I thought I was going to have to shoot him.'" Powell and three other officers were later acquitted in the case, triggering three days of riots that left 55 dead and nearly 2,400 injured. Damages reached about $1 billion.

Further to the on-going saga where the comedic duo Twin of Twins were arrested on a fraud charge, held overnight for questioning and subsequently released and gave their side of the story, the artistes were busy making the rounds on the two most popular entertainment shows on Jamaican television over the weekend. On Friday night, they appeared on TVJs Entertainment Report and on Saturday night they were on CVM-TVs On Stage.

On both programs, they complained that the police seemingly had no interest in resolving the matter, preferring instead to ridicule the Twins, even playing their most recent CD loudly throughout the night while they were being held in the lock-up. Michael Jackson Sues Jay Z...

January 3, 2008
Started By ZJSnyper23 Comments
Megastars Michael Jackson, R. Kelly and more than a dozen music publishers have banded together against Jay-Z's 40/40 Club - rapping the Chelsea hotspot with a federal lawsuit for allegedly skimping on royalties.

The popular 40/40 Club, co-owned by Jay-Z and two business partners, has danced around licensing rules to entertain clubgoers with "unauthorized public performance of musical compositions," according to a lawsuit filed yesterday in Manhattan federal court.

Broadcast Music Inc. led the charge on behalf of Jackson and more than a dozen artists and music publishing companies, seeking unspecified damages for copyright infringement from the club and co-owners Desiree Gonzalez - who has the primary responsibility for operations and management - and Juan Perez.

Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, is not named.

Jacko's "Billie Jean" and "Don't Stop," "Thoia Thoing" by R. Kelly and "Gold Digger" by Kanye West, Ray Charles and Renald Richard, were among seven unlicensed songs played at the club during a random visit by a BMI researcher on two nights in March 2006.

Even singer Pharrell Williams, who has frequently collaborated with Jay-Z in the past, was not immune - his song "Touch" was also played without license.

BMI spokesman Jerry Bailey said the company holds the licensing rights to 6.5 million songs - roughly half those played in the United States - and has tried unsuccessfully to license the 40/40 Club since it opened in 2003. The lavish sports bar and lounge on West 25th Street boasts a $4 million multi-level space with dozens of televisions to view sporting events, and several private VIP rooms.

Michael Shen, a lawyer for the club, said he had not yet seen the lawsuit and declined further comment.

The legal action comes one month after the nightspot was hit with a class action lawsuit for allegedly keeping a cut of workers' tips in violation of minimum wage laws.

Celeste Williams, a former waitress at 40/40, accused the club of "willfully failing and refusing to pay [its workers] at the legally required minimum wage" since the nightspot opened in 2003.

Her lawyer claimed 100 staffers have been ripped off - although club management said Williams worked at 40/40 for only four days in December 2005 - in the suit seeking unspecified damages.

The mother of a 13-year-old is in custody while the police are searching for entertainer, Zebra, who has been accused of sexually assaulting the child.

Garfield 'Zebra' Vassell, who the police said is wanted for rape, was released from prison on September 6 after serving seven of a 10-year sentence for a similar crime.

In the latest allegations, it is said that several persons became concerned about the child when she began to behave in a strange manner. The police were informed and an investigation launched.

The mother of the teenager was taken in after she admitted that she suspected that her child was sexually active but did nothing about it.

held on suspicion

As a result, she is being held on suspicion of aiding and abetting, while the police said that they are searching for the 'striped one'.

Vassell rose to prominence in the 1990s with a number of popular hits including the songs Rupert and Redder than Red. While riding the wave of success, he was charged with the rape of an 18-year-old university student who was assaulted in the bushes near Barry, St Catherine, in January 2001. He was also convicted for assault at common-law, stemming from an incident involving his then girlfriend Sherilla 'Zebress' Williams.

Since his release, Zebra has attempted to reclaim his prominence in the dancehall with the release of recordings and an appearance on the popular Sting show.

XXL reports:

The lack of hardcore hip-hop has seemingly coincided with rappers being exposed in the last two years.

Though not a rapper per se, Akons street credibility took a hit when thesmokinggun.com reported that the hookmans rap sheet was fabricated back in April 2008. Kon had reportedly only spent a few months in prison for stealing one BMW rather than serve a 4 1/2 years term for being the ring leader of a car theft ring. Meanwhile, three months later, Plies, hip-hops self-proclaimed goon came under fire for allegedly being a college kid who lied about his criminal past. Last but not least, Rick Ross was outted for being a correctional officer the same month. Presently on a campaign to bring hardcore hip-hop back, 50 Cent weigh in on the correlation between rapperss questionable street creds and the lack of interest in gangsta rap.

With Plies, if you say hes a college kid, so what? the Queens rapper told XXLMag.com. I wish I was a college kid. I wish I didnt grow up under the circumstances I had to grow up under. I would have liked to just go to college and study business.

I see him rap about the girls a lot, so thats true, he continued. From my perspective, Plies, his strong hit records are about femalesand Bust It Baby and that type of material. To me thats authentic. He gon get the girls. You see him, decked out, hes right, girls like him. Thats official.

As expected, Fif had a different take on the Rick Ross controversy. What was awkward was being part of law enforcement and completely writing drug dealer material and the biggest drug dealer in the world material, Fif explained. That was a little bit fictional. I mean hip-hop in generalI dont think anybody is actively out, anybody with good sense aint actively out doing exactly what they said on the record or they wont actually last cause youll get attention from law enforcement based on what you saying.

Can you imagine what its likewhen you convince the general public that youre that person, youre also convincing law enforcement, Fif added. This is why you dont see me out and about as often as you see these other guys at frivolous events, just wherever. Im not with it.

Fashionable singer Rihanna may be facing charges after she was caught by photographers giving friends tattoos in New York.

According to reports, Rihanna was spotted holding a tattooing needing while in Manhattan's East Side Ink on Wednesday (June 30) night.

The singer had been trying her hand at giving three artists umbrella tattoos with the letter "r," says TMZ.

Despite her newfound enthusiasm for ink, local authorities told the website that Rihanna could be facing charges over the incident because tattooists need a license to practice the craft in New York.

Rihanna is now facing three misdemeanor offenses and could be fined up to $2,000.

"Only licensed tattoo artists can administer tattoos in the city according to the City's Health Code," a New York City Health Department Spokesperson said. "We are sending someone down to follow up on this."
Pop superstar Michael Jackson now owns the rights to portions of Eminems catalog as a result of his Sony/ATV Music Publishing companys recent purchase of Famous Music LLC from Viacom. Through the deal, Jackson now controls the publishing rights to songs such as Without Me and The Real Slim Shady according to Reuters. Viacom announced the deal, which is estimated to be worth some $370 million, on Wednesday (May 30). Jackson and Sony/ATV now also own the rights to scores of hit songs from a number of artists including Shakira, and movie soundtracks such as The Godfather and Mission: Impossible. In 2004, Em famously enraged the pop legend when he parodied him in the video for his single Just Lose It.
Dirty underwear once worn by Michael Jackson went up for auction on September 10, 2008.

Confiscated in 2003 as part of evidence in a case where child molestation charges were launched against the 50 year-old pop star, the pair of white 28 inch Calvin Klein briefs went up for sale on eBay with a reserve price of $1million. The then District Attorney for Santa Barbara, Tom Sneddon seized the underwear from the singers home to get DNA samples. Jackson was later acquitted of all charges.

Not the only article once owned by Jackson that is up for grabs, the underpants joins an item of memorabilia obtained by New Jersey businessman, Henry Vaccaro in a bankruptcy case.

Vaccaro is offering Jackson fans a chance to purchase a used tube of skin-bleaching cream as well as a handwritten note from Jackson to ex-wife Lisa Marie Presley in which he explains why he is asking for an annulment.

Word on the streets is that Lauren London and Nivea aren't the best of friends as they both share the title of "Being pregnant by Lil' Wayne".

According to Internet sources, an anonymous e-mail was sent giving insight on the "situation":

I was told yesterday Lauren London was at a loss for words today after finding out that her baby daddy Lil Wayne was expecting another child yesterday. Lauren who is almost 6 months pregnant didnt know anything about Niveas pregnancy, and found out via Mediatakeout.com (go figure) and was outraged. Like every other star these days, she took to her Twitter page to express how she felt. But after speaking to a family friend left the topic alone. She then decided to spend the day with her family and close friends.

Lauren told her friends that she is worried her career is over as a result of these issues. As we all know Lauren is on the pinnacle of Black Hollywood as the face of Sean John and has a reoccurring role in the remake of Beverly Hills 90210 on the CW. A reliable source stated that Wayne doesnt want anything to do with Lauren.

Entertainment 'Mi vehicle cyaan dearer than mi house,' says Flippa Mafia Saturday, July 04, 2009 When flossing king, Flippa Mafia, scored number one last year with the hit single Dem Yah and Dem Yah, it was the signal that this deejay was one of those "to watch". And he has proved that this success was no fluke. Flippa Mafia "It was a song that everybody liked instantly and it just took off and set my career on the right level," recalls the deejay, whose single Unfinished House is kicking up a storm musically and otherwise. A very conscious song, the words coming from the lips of the flossing king makes the message much more impacting. In Unfinished House, Flippa states his case in no uncertain terms: Mi vehicle cyaan dearer than mi house Nor mi rims cyaan dearer than mi couch Nuff man a hype ova unfinished house And mi madda nuh waan lef Waterhouse. It was this single which brought the self-proclaimed King of Flossing in contention with deejay Bounty Killer, whose mansion on the hills is 'unfinished'. But Flippa insists that there was nothing personal in the lyrics, he was just expressing himself the best way he knows how. "But all that has been settled and it's really just about music. My message is simply this: Flossing is all and good, but make sure that the important things like having a house, somewhere to sleep and those things are all sorted out before you spend money on car and bling," the deejay stated. Having been the brunt of much criticism for his champagne-popping and drinking straight from the bottle or pouring it all over the stage while performing, coupled with his penchant for throwing out dollars, Flippa is intent on setting the record straight. "I don't have a house. I have houses," he emphasises. And, like I said in my song, my mother still lives in Waterhouse because that's where she wants to live. But she can get the keys to any one of my houses whenever she wants. They are all hers," declares the flossing king, who says that flossing is his way of life, it's no pretence. Flippa Mafia will appear on Reggae Sumfest Dancehall Night scheduled for Thursday, July 23 in Montego Bay.

The wife of R&B singer Usher says she was surprised when the entertainer filed for divorce earlier this month and claims the two were intimate less than a week before he moved to end the marriage.

Tameka Raymond disputes Usher's claims the couple have been separated since July 2008. Raymond says in court documents filed Monday in Fulton County Superior Court that she "had every reason to believe her marriage was intact" and that two were "intimately together as husband and wife as recently as June 6."

Usher, whose real name is Usher Raymond IV, filed for divorce on June 12. He says the marriage is "irretrievably broken." The couple married in August 2007 in a lavish ceremony. They have two sons.

Hang Mioku Before Operations.jpgHang Mioku, now 48, had her first plastic surgery procedure when she was 28; hooked from the beginning she moved to Japan where she had further operations - mostly to her face.
Following operation after operation, her face was eventually left enlarged and disfigured, but she would still look at herself in the mirror and think she was beautiful.
Eventually the surgeons she visited refused to carry out any more work on her and one suggested that her obsession could be a sign of a psychological disorder.

When she returned home to Korea the surgery meant Hang's features had changed so much that her own parents didn't recognise her.
After realising that the girl with the grossly swollen face was indeed their daughter her horrified parents took her to a doctor. Once again the possibility that Hang had a mental disorder was raised and she started treatment.
However, this treatment was too expensive for her to keep up and she soon fell back into old ways.
Amazingly, she found a doctor who was willing to give her silicone injects and, what's more, he then gave her a syringe and silicone of her own so she could self-inject.
When her supply of silicone ran out Hang resorted to injecting cooking oil into her face.

Her face became so grotesquely large that she was called "standing fan" by children in her neighbourhood - due to her large face and small body.
As Hang's notoriety spread she was featured on Korean TV. Viewers seeing the report took mercy on her and sent in enough donations to enable her to have surgery to reduce the size of her face.
During the first procedure surgeons removed 60g of foreign substance from Hang's face and 200g from her neck.
After several other sessions her face was left greatly reduced but still scarred and disfigured.
And it would seem that even Hang can now see the damage she has done; she now says that she would simply like her original face back.

Martin Jones opens his newly-sighted eye fitted with a tooth

Seeing clearly: Martin Jones opens his newly-sighted eye fitted with a tooth

A blind man is able to see his wife for the first time - after having a tooth implanted into his eye.

Martin Jones had one of his front teeth removed and turned into a lens holder before it was inserted in his right eye.

The former builder, who married his spouse Gill four years ago, can now see for the first time since a tub of molten aluminium exploded in his face 12 years ago.

Mr Jones, 42, said: I met my wife when I was blind and when I found out there was a chance I would get my sight back the first person I wanted to see was her.

The doctors took the bandages off and it was like looking through water and then I saw this figure and it was her. It was unbelievable.

If felt fantastic getting my sight back. I cant describe it, it is beyond words.

Martin, of Rotherham, South Yorkshire, was blinded when 600C aluminium blew up in his face while he was working in a scrapyard in 1997.

He suffered 37 per cent burns and had his left eye removed after it was destroyed in the accident.

Doctors saved his other eye but the retina was badly damaged and he was told he would probably never see again.

The doctors took the bandages off and it was like looking through water and then I saw this figure and it was my wife. It was unbelievable.'

He had treatment at a specialist eye hospital in Nottingham and doctors tried to use stem cells from a donor but it was unsuccessful.

His life changed when he underwent the pioneering operation carried out by Brighton surgeon Christopher Lui.

He is the only person in the UK who can carry out the procedure known as Osteo-Odonto-Keratoprosthesis, which was first pioneered by Italian Professor Benedetto Strampelli in 1963.

Dr Liu used Mr Jones' canine as holder for a special optical lens which allows light into his eye so he can see.

The process requires a living tooth as an implant because doctors suggest there are chances the eye would reject a plastic equivalent.

Christopher Liu

Surgeon: Christopher Liu used a living tooth to carry a new lens because Mr Jones' eye could reject a plastic implant

So a canine - which is the best option due to its shape and size - was taken out of Mr Jones' mouth along with its root and part of the jaw.

It was then moulded into a cube with a hole drilled though the centre where a lens was placed.

The re-modelled tooth was then inserted into his cheek for three months to enable it to grow new tissue and *lo** vessels, which helped it to embed in the eye.

In a delicate eight-hour operation the tooth is then removed and stitched into place behind a skin graft over Mr Jones eye.

Within a fortnight he had almost perfect vision in his right eye.

He said: I was blind for 12 years and when my sight came back everything changed.

The first car I saw when my sight was restored was a Smart car and I couldnt stop laughing. I thought who had chopped the car in half.

Getting my sight back has changed my life. I find pleasure in being able to see what is going on in the world.

Mr Jones had been walking with a white stick after the accident and gave talks at blind centres to teach people to be guides for the blind.

He met care worker Gill, 50, there and married her in 2005.

He said: When I first heard about the technique I couldnt believe it. I dont think many people can.

My friends just dont believe me. They think I am pulling their leg or have made it up.
