Was Vybz Kartel Really Booed? Amidst a bevy of reports published by the press and various electronic outlets about Kartel's performance; sources within the Portmore Empire camp are dismissing the claims classifying them as false and misleading and another attempt by their detractors to tarnish what the Gaza movement has built. The reggae community was thrown into darkness this morning as news emerged that close relatives of the singer Thriller U had been shot and injured during a robbery attempt in Miramar, Florida on Sunday night.

According to news reports, three people were found slain inside a house, where they also discovered one survivor: a woman who said she had been shot in the face during a robbery there.

Police have not released the identities or ages of the bodies, which were found Monday afternoon after officers responded to a report of a shooting.

Police spokeswoman Tania Rues said the bodies included people who lived in the home and visitors. She would not be more specific. Broward property records show the River Run neighborhood home is owned by Faith Bisasor, 49, a registered nurse who purchased the house in 1990.

Neighbors say Bisasor lives at the home with a teenage son who attends Stranahan High. Checks with Thriller U did not reveal much, all he said was "I cannot confirm anything as yet".   No one had been arrested in the case and investigators had not released any details about a possible suspect or how the victims were killed. It's unclear exactly when the killings happened.

Police were called to the home by a friend of the survivor, but the friend was unable to provide an exact address.The woman, who is believed to be the mother of Thriller U's daughter, was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood. Her condition this afternoon was not known.

Julius was shielding the power couple, who is vacationing in Dubrovnik, Croatia when he got into an altercation with three camera men.

The camera men report that the bodyguard damaged their equipment and assaulted them. Video footage shows a photographer throwing a tri-pod at Julius and hitting him in the back as he enters onto the couple's boat. When he hops off the boat to retaliate, Jay-Z can be heard in the background telling him to Stop and Don't worry about it. He retreats to the boat and throws the camera man's tri-pod into the water.

Luckily for him, police and the photographers are no longer seeking legal action and he will only have to pay a fine for his actions.

The runner's coach Michael Seme laughed off the allegations, saying the athlete fielded constant questions about whether she was a boy from younger athletes when training.

"Then she has to explain that she can't help the fact that her voice is so gruff and that she really is a girl. The remarkable thing is that Caster remains completely calm and never loses her dignity when she is questioned about her gender," Seme told the newspaper.

Semenya had been "crudely humiliated" a few times and the closest Seme said he had seen her to anger was earlier this year when some people wanted her barred from using the ladies restroom.

"Then Caster said: 'Do you want me to pull down my pants that you can see. Those same people came to her later and said they were extremely sorry."

Less than a month after he was crowned King of the Dancehall at Reggae Sumfest in Montego Bay and a week before he officially celebrates 30 years in dancehall at his Sizzle concert in Kingston, DJ Beenie Man was soundly and repeatedly booed and given the handclap treatment at Champions in Action.

In the initial stages of the negative response, Vybz Kartel, who called up his 'uncle' Beenie Man before the large audience at Jamworld, Portmore, St Catherine, close to 7 a.m. yesterday, also got handclaps. But as the two alternated lyrics, there were eventually big cheers for Kartel, but boos and handclaps every time Beenie Man deejayed.

And when Kartel left Beenie Man onstage, not returning although Beenie Man turned MC briefly and said that the people wanted to see him again, he was left as the sole, undisputed recipient of the disapproval.

It eventually caused 'The Doctor', known for keeping a grin through the toughest of circumstances, to lose his cool momentarily, saying "yu see di bag a man whe a boo, me nah tek dem on. A crotches morning. De bag a man whe a boo, fin' a crotches. R...c...t!"

And he attempted to silence them with a lyric, deejaying:

"Me no want no man boo mi P... pree an' yu no have none fi show mi."

Stood his ground

Although the women, especially, cheered and it seemed the tide could turn when Beenie Man repeated the lyric, he was booed soundly again. Kartel pulled the Doctor's raised arm down and dropped a lyric and the boos immediately turned to cheers.

To his credit, though, Beenie Man stood his ground and did manage to salvage some pride.

After a rapturous reception, Kartel worked his way through snippets of his money songs, including Money Fi Spen and then celebrated Life Sweet. At the venue of the famous 2008 Sting, Kartel did his triumphant Last Man Standing about Mavado to the delight of the audience before calling in his uncle.

Beenie Man started of well enough, getting the audience 'mad' in his standard opening, and they exchanged a couple rounds of lyrics to very good effect until it went downhill on a disjointed Breast Specialist and the handclaps started. And as Beenie declared "mi nah beg no p... nutten cause me done have me tings", the boos started.

"We know Gaza fans deh ya. All Bounty fans go so," he said, trying to start a hand wave. The crowd was not impressed. It got worse when with his own Ruff Kut band, which had played for the numerous performers up to that point on the stand, he tried to squeeze Red Red on the Chakka rhythm. Kartel asked for a change of rhythm to the Baddas, but Beenie said he was not yet done with the rhythm and did Frame I.

"Mi no come ya fi inna di argument. Who no like me say boo," Beenie Man said. And the boos rang out again. Many hands went up when he asked for the Beenie Man fans, but when he called for a Michael Jackson rhythm and did the moonwalk there were more boos.

"Me neva come ya fi inna di war. Bounty Killer carry him fans fi boo me. Oonu boo," Beenie said. And they booed again.

The audience loved Kartel's "don't cry", but two exchanges later when Beenie told all to "wiggle up yu body an shake up yu ass" there were resounding boos again. There was the same pattern on the following lyrical exchange; cheers for Kartel as he mused on "gal from yu come a me yard", but claps and boos for Beenie as he sang "come ya gal".

Kartel survived his own handclaps as he delivered his virginity-taking song, but he persisted and the negative response faded.

Beenie Man hit a recovery note with Stock and Pile to cheers before Kartel requested "gi mi a chance, fi talk pon poor people behalf" and then left.

When he asked the crowd if they wanted more Kartel, they said yes but 'Addi' did not return. Beenie Man asked "how im fi run an' lef' me alone? A me alone a work".

"Me ago call up my son. Me nuh business if Alliance nuh waan work. Me haffi work my time," Beenie Man said, calling up a boy dancer and older man team, who the crowd also started clapping off, although they eventually won applause.

Alliance time now

When they left, Beenie Man said "Alliance time now, no true? Me supposed to come off an mek Alliance work". He repeated his invitation for the Alliance to perform on his Sizzle concert this Saturday, as he deejayed "we neva inna whey yu eena. Me love you Jamworld, goodnight," Beenie Man said and left to a last round of ha****ing handclaps.

After the band change, Bounty Killer and Mavado obliterated the audience, causing pandemonium with forward after forward.

Bounty Goes To Court September

Dancehall entertainer Rodney Pryce, more popularly known as 'Bounty Killer', faced the Gun Court again Friday where the case against him was mentioned. Bounty Killer is jointly charged with Calis Bowen, an ex-cop, for illegal possession of a firearm and assaulting a police constable, following a 2 year investigation by the St Andrew Central Police. Investigators reported that on September 27, 2007, the police constable became embroiled in an altercation with a group of men along St. Lucia Avenue in New Kingston after they blocked the road with their vehicles.          The policeman signaled the men to move, however one of them, nicknamed "Ice" allegedly threw alcohol into his face. The cop then jumped from his vehicle to confront the man when the group of men allegedly attacked him. It is reported that during the confrontation 'Bounty Killer' pulled a firearm and pointed it at the policeman. Mr. Bowen who was in the artiste's entourage is accused of hitting the Constable in the face and chest. He was later dismissed from the police force. The two are scheduled to return to court on September 30, 2009.

A man charged with indecent assault after he reportedly ejaculated on a four-year-old told the court that he gave the police a wrong name because he was beaten in the head by residents of his community and had forgotten his true name.

It is alleged that the accused molested the child at his home. He, however, had a different version of this story when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday. He told the court that he was at home watching TV when the child ran into his room and jumped into his lap. He said he "discharged on himself" but he was not aware that it had caught the child. He said he then sent her home after hearing her mother calling her.

The accused said the child's mother reportedly took her to the doctor and when she returned home, a host of men barged into his room and beat him with baton, sticks and pressure cookers. He said this caused him to lose sense for some time and led him to give the police the wrong name.

The matter is to return to court today. The accused was remanded.

Aidonia - File

 

While dancehall artiste Aidonia is on a new path to stay out of the 'drama' and 'mix up' of the dancehall, according to him he will stand up for his right's which is what he believes happened at ATI's Temptation Live last Saturday night.

In an article published last Monday in The STAR titled 'Ele to the rescue', it was stated that Elephant Man saved the day after an altercation onstage between Aidonia and a member of Mavado's entourage. Aidonia, however, believes he should get the praises he deserves and spoke to The STAR to clear the air that neither himself nor his JOP crew was the aggressor.

He explained: "Come at the show we get the line-up sey all right den, Angel was gonna perform, then DeMarco then Wayne Marshall, den me. All of a sudden me hear di line-up change sey Bounty Killer haffi perform before me, dem sey Bounty Killer suppose to have another show, mi sey all right. Den afta dat now mi notice me see Mavado and him entourage come right at di stage like him want block di stage so mi a sey dem man yah nuh book fi di show why dem come ova yasso and a act dem way yah. Yuh nuh bill fi di show, yuh nuh deh pon di show, so if yuh a come yuh mus go talk to di people responsible fi di show, yuh nuh suppose to come at di show and come like yuh waan bully di ting."

According to Aidonia, he went onstage and performed one song and was expecting to hear the track for his next song when he looked at the selector and saw him pushing away a member of Mavado's entourage who was trying to stop him from playing. After talking to the two, the music soon started, the police cleared the stage and Aidonia was able to finish his set.

He added: "In dis case me a defend myself and stand up for myself. Yuh can't come at a show and nuh billed and a mek man stop play man CD. Di man dem fi know demselves and know wha dem a do and don't try intimidate me cause yuh can't. Tings like dese a mash up dancehall fi years."

"Come and have respect for people and have respect for the promoters, your fellow artistes. Saturday night Vybz Kartel had a show why no one went up there trying to work with Vybz Kartel? So don't come try wid Aidonia cause yuh already know dat can't work, don't try prove nutten cause yuh weren't billed at the show."

Nothing against Mavado

Aidonia says he does not have anything against Mavado and he believes the incident may have stemmed from Fully Loaded where persons are saying he went 'hard' onstage.

"People dem start hol' back a vibes for Aidonia, people dem start talk bout mi. Everybody a try work before mi at ATI like dem a try run out di forwards and try drown me, but it nah work at di end of di day cause di people in di crowd loved the performance. I don't disrespect people, I don't trouble people, mi hold my corner. I do my ting but mi not taking no disrespect from no one. Mi stay outta people way and mi would like people to stay outta my way also," he added.

Recently there has been many sites that got wind of pictures of Charlie Baltimore. Not sure how many of you remember her, but she made some noise back in the day. 

The pictures as you can see are of her washing cars. Everyone wanted to talk and say how its hard times and she dead broke. Well that is not the case.She was washing cars and posing for the camera because she was helping in a fundraiser with a friend. 

Apparently she is still doing work with Murda Inc.

The Caymanas Police in St Catherine are searching for 14 men who have been implicated in the sexual exploitation of a 12-year-old girl over a three-year period.

The child's ordeal came to light after the Portmore cops arrested and charged a relative of the complainant with carnal abuse.

Investigators say that while the statements were being collected in the case, it was alleged that the child's uncle was the first to have sexually molested her at age nine.

Following checks by the police, the relative was arrested and charged with carnal abuse. He is scheduled to appear in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court later this week .

Its understand that the other suspects, most of whom are related to the complainant, are being sought and that the investigations are at an advanced stage.

"All the involved parties are being pursued at this time, and progress is being made. It is only a matter of time before closure is brought to the investigation," a senior policeman said.

Police sources say that St Catherine continues to battle with a high level of sexual offences, with a large number of the victims being underage.

LOS ANGELES (AP) "The Dark Knight" continues to obliterate box office records, crossing the $300 million mark in just 10 days.

The epic Batman saga grossed $75.6 million in its second weekend in theaters, pushing its domestic total to $314,245,000, Warner Bros. head of distribution Dan Fellman said Sunday.

That surpasses the record set in 2006 by "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," which took 16 days to make $300 million.

The latest Batman installment already had broken records for best opening weekend at $158.4 million and best single-day with $66.4 million. It's also busted records in its showings on IMAX screens, making $16.3 million in its first 10 days.

Fellman expects that "Dark Knight" could reach $400 million in about 18 days, which would beat the record "Shrek 2" set in 2004 when it made that much money in 43 days.

"What can you say? We've been getting a lot of repeat business coming in," Fellman said. "Our audience is expanding, like you would expect with terrific word-of-mouth and strong reviews. Our audience is getting a little bit older, that's the good news. We're finding the younger demographic, male and female, coming back."

He called it "a big surprise," adding: "To do $300 (million) plus in 10 days, we just couldn't have predicted it."

"The Dark Knight" could pass "Titanic" as the highest-grossing film in U.S. history, said Paul Dergarabedian, president of Media By Numbers. James Cameron's 1997 extravaganza made $600,788,188 domestically, a record no other movie has come close to touching.

"The `Titanic' record has sat in a lock box for 10 years. It's a tall order but if any film has a chance to surpass that number, it's got to be `Dark Knight,'" Dergarabedian said.

Director Christopher Nolan's follow-up to his 2005 origin story "Batman Begins," which again stars Christian Bale as the tormented comic-book crime fighter, initially benefited from the mystique of the late Heath Ledger giving his masterful, last performance as the Joker, Dergarabedian said.

"Now, it's all about word-of-mouth," he said. "The first weekend, there was this huge, pent-up demand and eagerness by audiences to see this movie. Now, it's like a freight train it seems to be unstoppable."

Part of the film's visual allure comes from the fact that 30 minutes of it were shot with IMAX cameras, including an elaborate bank-heist scene at the start.

"Chris (Nolan) has clearly hit upon something," said Greg Foster, chairman and president of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. "There are many important filmmakers who we've spoken with in the last couple of weeks about shooting with IMAX cameras."

Coming in second place was "Step Brothers," which had a strong opening of its own with $30 million. The comedy reunites Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, co-stars of "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby," as 40-year-olds who've never left home and are forced to share a bedroom when their parents get married.

Rory Bruer, head of distribution for Sony, said this was at the high end of the studio's expectations.

"We'd hoped to be in the mid-to-high $20 (millions), so to hit $30 (million) is a great start," Bruer said. "Having the chemistry of Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly together again, reuniting with (director) Adam McKay who did `Talladega Nights,' it's great. They both immerse themselves and the humor comes from their connection."

Sony also has the Will Smith superhero flick "Hanc**k," which made $8.2 million this past weekend to cross the $200 million mark.

The weekend's other big release was "The X-Files: I Want to Believe," which made an estimated $10.2 million. Ten years after the first "X-Files" movie and six years since the pioneering sci-fi show went off the air, this latest installment finds Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) re-teaming to solve a missing-persons case.

"The hardcore `X-Files' fans, they're happy. And frankly, that's who the movie was made for," said Chris Aronson, distribution executive for 20th Century Fox.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Media By Numbers LLC. Final figures will be released Monday.

Deejays Vybz Kartel and Spice are currently laughing all the way up the Billboard charts. Despite being pulled from local radio playlists, the controversial song Rampin' Shop debuted in the number 96 position on the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop charts - a first for both artistes.

In a move that caused much uproar in the entertainment fraternity in February, the Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica placed restrictions on all daggering songs, content of explicitly sexual and violent nature and all songs containing bleeps.

The restrictions seemed to be a resulting move from the an article published by Sunday Gleaner columnist Esther Tyson which blasted Rampin' Song for its overly explicit lyrics.

After being removed from radio playlists locally, internationally the song, which was released in late 2008, has become a hot commodity.

The song has heated up US mainstream airwaves on hip-hop station, Hot 97 FM and entered the Billboard charts a few days ago.

For both deejays, it is a memorable experience with Kartel telling THE STAR, "It's a feeling of accomplishment, you know, 'cause this shows me that my hard work is paying off, because I haven't had a US visa in three and a half years but I have a US Billboard 'charter', it's crazy."

Spice also commented, "I am extremely happy at the success andso overwhelmed because it was banned here in Jamaica and there were a lot of people fighting against it. I just need them to stop doing things like that because the song is loved right across the world and they embrace it, so why shouldn't we? This is my first Billboard song and I can't explain how great it feels. We worked really hard to promote it and now the work is paying off. I have to say thanks to the writer, Vybz Kartel, because he was the one who came up with the concept and approached me and the song was very well done."

The song, whose rhythm closely follows that of Ne-Yo's Miss Independent, was redone after the artistes received a stop order on the song from EMI Music Publishing, which manages its copyright.

Despite the stop order, it is the Miss Independent inspired version of the song that has been entered on the Billboard with Kartel commenting, "Yes, it is the Ne-Yo version that they told me not to play but you know they (Ne-Yo's company) can bully Adidjahiem/NotNice records but not Hot97 FM."

As for the restrictions placed on the song, Kartel says he doesn't want them to be lifted, commenting, "Why would I want the song unbanned when every man, woman and child within our 1400 square miles knows the song? Broadcasting did it a favour when they restricted it, although they thought they were gonna hurt it. Thanks BC."

In an statement issued by the Broadcasting Commission to THE STAR, they claimed to have no problems with Rampin' Shop being on the Billboard charts saying, "Billboard is a privately compiled chart, it, however, has no bearing on its appropriateness for radio."

First of all, here is the table published by the IAAF this morning, containing all the splits and times for 20m intervals, for both the semi-final and final:

It reveals how Bolt achieved the fastest split at all intervals, which is amazing considering his supposed slow start. He led the race at 20m, and continued to grow that lead. I have shown his times on the chart:

The relatively slow first 20m (because of the start) makes interpreting the last 80m of the race quite difficult, so I've taken the liberty of looking only at the last 4 intervals, for a more obvious comparison between Bolt, Gay and Powell. It makes the point that Bolt was dominant from start to finish, as shown below.

Translating those times into speeds is a simple but interesting exercise (shown in the graph below), because you then perceive just how fast the top end speed is. For Bolt, the fastest interval (60m to 80m) was run at an average speed of 44.72km/hour. If you're wondering how that compares to last year in Beijing, read on...

Rap star Corey "C-Murder" Miller was officially sentenced to life in prison today (August 14) for killing a 16-year-old teenager inside a Jefferson Parish nightclub.

On Tuesday (August 11) a jury found Miller guilty of shooting and killing Steven Thomas inside of the club, after an altercation with Miller and several other men in January of 2002.

Millers attorney Ron Rakosky asked Judge Jans Liljeberg for a retrial, but the judge refused the request yet again, paving the way for Miller, 38, to be sentenced to life in prison, without the possibility of parole.

The rapper was originally found guilty of the shooting in 2002, but the verdict was overturned when it was learned that prosecutors hid the criminal records of several witnesses from the defense.

Miller appeared in court today chained and shackled.

He sat quietly as Rakosky filed a motion to withdraw as Millers attorney, because Miller had not paid him for his services. Miller plans to appeal the guilty verdict.
