ALLIANCE ARTISTS NOMINATED FOR MOBO AWARD

MAVADO_serani_bike_male_artiste_sky.jpg

2008 winner of the MOBO Award for Best Reggae Act, Gully God Mavado, has once again been nominated for this year's award, reflecting his continued output of quality music and his dominance of the international market. 2009 has been another excellent year for Mavado, touring the world and appearing on the big stage many times over.

Also nominated is Alliance colleague Serani, who has made huge strides on the international scene in the past year with his breakout hit No Games. His nomination is a great achievement for such a new act and illustrates the Alliance's winning formula for international success.

Other nominees are conscious-music flag flier Taurus Riley, past winner Sean Paul and Vybz Kartel, who had his nomination withdrawn in the past for homophobic lyrics.

The Mobo nominations were announced in London last night and the ceremony itself will be held outside London for the first time, taking place in Glasgow, Scotland on September 30.

A Jamaican male is among five gay Caribbean men set to compete in a Gay Caribbean pageant to be held in New York on September 19. The pageant, which is being held for the first time this year, will see the men competing in full female attire in every segment. The men will appear in couture swimwear and evening wear, and will also have to perform a talent piece. An interview segment is also included. In the swimwear segment, contestants will have to do a dramatisation representing a local legend from their home country. contestants Hemish Gervis, the organiser of the pageant, told THE STAR that all contestants, except the Jamaican, live their lives as men. He said the Jamaican, who is originally from St Ann, lives as a woman. The other four countries represented are St Lucia, Barbados, Martinique and Guyana. The individual contestants are: Mimi Mancini, representing Jamaica; Frantica Boujoules representing St Lucia; Rehanna B, from Barbados; Madame Fleur de Fleur from the French Caribbean island of Martinique, and Vanessa Flowers of Guyana. Though all of this year's contestants live in the United States, Gervis said the pageant was open to all gay men from the Caribbean, whether they were living in the United States or not. He said, "We intend to make it an annual event. The idea was born out of the St Lucian version of the pageant when we realised that other gay islanders wanted to participate. This year we had five contestants but we plan to make it even bigger next year when we seek corporate help." prizes He said the contestants would be judged by three graduates of leading performing arts schools and the winner would receive prizes of both cash and kind. Gervis, a St Lucian, said the aim of the pageant was to create a spirit of tolerance towards the gay community and said this was why the pageant was open to everyone - gay and straight. "It's a chance for people to see gay talent on parade and to be around gay people and maybe it will foster a spirit of openness," he said. Well aware that not everyone is tolerant of such a lifestyle, Gervis said security will be provided and everyone attending will be searched.

Mavado - File

A crowd the size of Reggae Sumfest came out to the AICHI Reggae Breeze Festival to see Mavado on Saturday night.

Thousands of Japanese reggae and dancehall fans flocked to the beach for what could be described as a cross between Sumfest and Fully Loaded.

Thousands of miles away from home, Jamaican culture was alive and kicking as sound systems pumped out everything from Garnet Silk to Bounty Killer, surrounded by stalls selling jerk chicken and ital stew!

Japanese dancehall acts and selectors warmed up the crowd but when Mavado hit the stage, the energy level was cosmic.

The audience hung on to Mavado's every word and went ballistic from start to finish.

power of our music

"It's a great feeling to travel so far from Jamaica and be shown so much love from another country," a tired Mavado said after giving his all at the show. "It shows the power of our music and culture and we need to keep using it and representing it positively. I'm having a great experience in Japan and will definitely be back soon."

Anger Management band did another fine job, as well as Flexxx and Chase Cross who were both shown a lot of love from the sea of fans in attendance when called onstage by the Gully God.

The final leg of the Reggae Breeze Mavado Tour was set to take place last night in Kumamoto for the Kyushu Music Festival that is sure to end the trip on a high note.

Wycliffe 'Steely' Johnson, of Steely and Clevie fame, is in critical condition at a New York hospital but the music fraternity has been praying for his recovery.

Steelie ... is in critical condition at a New York hospital

"We want to keep a positive mind," Clevie Brownie, the other half of the dancehall pioneering duo, told the Sunday Observer. "The chance of his survival is slim."

Johnson is suffering from pneumonia having recovered from kidney complications in December, said Brownie, who has been in contact via phone and saw him in July.

"When I left him in New York he was bouncing back and recovering, then he got pneumonia and it took him down. bad, bad, bad," Brownie relayed, adding that family and friends have been praying.

Steely started his career as the original keyboard player with the Roots Radix Band which backed Gregory Isaacs, Bunny Wailer and numerous other artistes both on tour and in the recording studio, and also played on a number of hit recordings for various producers in the 70s. Steely also played on a large number of hit recordings for various artistes.

Noted as the pioneers of dancehall, but certainly not limited to this genre, Steely and Clevie have worked together for 30 years with domestic and international artistes of many styles with great success.

Steely and Clevie first worked together in 1974 at Harry J's Studio working on songs produced by Augustus Pablo. During the 80s, Steely and Clevie was employed as session musicians for King Jammy's, Bobby Digital, Techniques, Redman International, Music Works and Penthouse labels and others.

Clevie started his musical journey as a member of the noted Browne musical family, beginning as lead singer of the Browne Bunch's 1972 debut single We've Got A Good Thing Going. He was inspired by the professionalism of the group's producer Geoffrey Chung (a leading producer of his era) who would pay as much attention to the business as he would the production of music.

Steely and Clevie say they contributed to three-quarters of top dancehall songs in the 80s. Their influence, however, continues today having worked with No Doubt, Sean Paul, Elephant Man, and others.

Clevie is the immediate past chairman of the Recording Industry Association of Jamaica where he now sits on the board. He also serves on the boards of Jamaica Music Society, Jamaica Signature Beats and serves on the Reggae Academy steering committee.

He is at home now, and recovering. We know this because he updated his Twitter, with a message to everyone.

He did so by setting world record times in both the 100m and 200m yard dash at the IAAF World Championships in Berlin, Germany last week. In the last year Bolt has set five world records. The man is truly brilliant and so is his taste in automobiles. The shot above was taken as Bolt was shopping for a Ferrari in California. Hey buddy, can you spare a wheel of Parmigiano-Reggiano?

Italy is in the throes of its fourth recession since 2002, with the countrys economy expected to contract 5.3% this year. And, for many producers, cheese seems to be the only way out.

Credito Emiliano, an Italian bank in the Emilia-Romagna region, has been accepting parmesan cheese as collateral since the early 1950s -- and is now considering treating prosciutto, olive oil and balsamic vinegar the same way, according to Steve Jenkins, one of Americas foremost cheese experts.

The bank does not store the cheese on site -- this is the purview of a unit called Magazzini Generali delle Tagliate, which holds 440,000 wheels worth a little less than $190 million.

Since the construction of their new recording studio Austin Kevin Green- CEO of Payday Music, official Alliance producer and engineer alongside the Alliance boss himself Bounty Killer has been putting out some really hard work. The Honeyc**** rhythm which features all the alliance members with the exception of Busy Signal- due to his absence from the island as he was on tour is the first production of his hard work, it also features dancehall artiste Demarco and the new alliance members which also make a debut on the Full black rhythm. Another production of Payday Music following the studio construction is the Full Black rhythm that upcoming artistes like Flawless, Assailant, Iyara, Marlon Binns, Boom Steppa, Nymron has voiced on.

Kevin relays the honeyc**** rhythm was produced for the radio airwaves but the full black rhythm- which has song contents has more of an intense sound- was made for the streets. Since the studio has been opened it has been very progressive doing various projects with Bounty Killer and Mavado, there has been a mix with Bounty Killer, Mavado and Busta Rhymes, we are also about to work on a track with Akon. It has been really busy for Payday Music, we did a Flawless video medley for Promise Me and Live Some More shot at various locations in Kingston and right now we are promoting Honeyc**** locally and internationally as there are upcoming shows in Japan, French Martique, US, England.

Chevelle-Franklyn-gospel-jamaica.jpgChevelle Franklyn is without doubt one of the most outstanding Ministers of Music to have arrived on the gospel music scene over the past seven years. Her energy as a performer, insight as a songwriter/producer, vocal capacity as a singer, and her anointing as a worshiper has ensured her success as a leading, international, multiple award-winning Psalmist. Chevelle recorded her first work 'Here I Am' at the tender age of 14. Nurtured by some of the top names among Jamaica's music producers, Chevelle soon marked out a distinctive territory in Jamaica's dancehall culture scene.

Her future took a rosy turn and she recorded smash hits Nice and Naughty followed by No Pushover in 1992. But despite the great success, there remained a gaping hole in her soul. In 1998, during a concert, Chevelle, tired of the empty way of life and hopelessness, suddenly declared on stage a change of direction in her career and lifestyle, she decided to become a Christian. As a symbol of her signature to this new change, she sang Kirk Franklin's song 'Silver and Gold' on stage. She said: 'I did not hear a message or anything, but I felt the calling of God.

I just broke down on the stage and said, 'I can't do this anymore... I knew there was something better out there'. It was then that Chevelle gave her life to the Lord ending all her secular contractual agreements, walking away from her biggest international hit song Dancehall Queen'. Better certainly did come and since that change, Chevelle has been combining her new expression with the energetic lyrical style that had made her a great success. This success includes
the hit collaboration in the year 2000 with Papa San on his award-winning album, 'Victory', led to a Marlin Award for her vocal appearance on the track 'Touch from you'.

Her first gospel album 'Joy' stirred up an international storm when it was released in 2001, and led to a tour around the world. 'Joy', led to 12 nominations in the Sixth Annual Caribbean Gospel Music Marlin Awards, in 2002. Chevelle walked away with awards in five categories: Outstanding New Artist of the Year, Adapted Recording of the Year, for 'Firm Foundation' Female Reggae Recording of the Year, for 'Magnify His Name' Contemporary Female Vocal Performance of the Year, for 'Joy' and Album of the Year, also for Joy. Chevelle fellowships at Swallowfield Chapels - Pastor David Henry, when in Jamaica and when in the UK her Spiritual covering is Bishop John Francis of Ruach Ministries, London also church of her spiritual mother Pastor Enid Stewart.

Chevelle has seen God use the ministry to empower and equipped her for Music Ministry. Chevelle produced her New gospel album, called HIS WAY on her very own Label called N.O.W Records (No Other Way). This album has followed in the footsteps of Joy's runaway success. Chevelle Franklyn has shared the stage with the following Ministers Donnie Mc Clurkin, Kirk Franklin, Kurt Carr, Javen, Stephen Hurd, Michael W. Smith and Many more....

Flippa Mafia says 'Is just music'

August 28, 2009

Elephant Man and Flippa Mafia are the latest dancehall artistes trading insults in songs, but Flippa says it is nothing serious and they are still friends.

Questions were raised when Elephant Man released a song called People, which is directed at Flippa Mafia and his 'money-throwing' ways.

In the song, Elephant Man says:

"People, unuh waan mi nil him?/ Unuh fi seh nil him/ A mi house, a mi business weh a running a dat a bun him/ Bout him a Mafia, da claffy yah/ People, unuh run him/ Bout yuh a dash weh money/ Yuh shoulda shame when a capture yuh madda capture piece a land pon the lane/ So wha happen to yuh babymother weh yuh lef a suffer/ All yuh sister weh live a Waterhouse inna di gutter/ She and yuh father a fight over dumpling and butter".

Elephant Man goes further and accuses Flippa Mafia of 'informing' on several people so that he did not go to jail. He also calls Flippa Mafia a 'sell-out'.

When contacted, Flippa Mafia did not seem upset about Elephant Man's song.

"Him do a song fi me, so me do a song fi him. Controversy sells," Flippa said, in reference to his newest song Talk Di Truth.

In his song, Flippa deejays:

"Mi nah fi kill Elephant Man because him done dead already/ a five years him have fi live/ Yuh a talk bout dumpling and butter/ when yuh need it fi di 20 pickney whe a suffer/ Elephant, yuh caan style me/ nuh you drink and drunk and wake up wid he-she?"

He said Elephant Man's song stemmed from a song he did recently. In the song, he said, "Some man have big house a bare dog live inna it." This seemed like a direct jibe at Elephant Man, as he is known to have many dogs.

"Mi give him the song fi mek him do a counteraction but him do a whole song bout it. Him go O D (overdo it), so mi haffi defend myself. Me and him all right. Mi and him a still friend. Him deh pon mi show next month. Mi nuh tek it personal, so mi hope him nuh tek it personal," Flippa said, while noting that his show, Philly Summer Fest, will be held on September 7 in Philadelphia, United States.

Twin of Twins say their song How Come has been unfairly banned from some local radio stations.

The Twin of Twins, Paul 'Tu Lox' Gaynor and Patrick 'Curly Lox' Gaynor say their songs have been banned from local radio stations because of its content.

In a release, the Twins said, "Once again the Jamaican media, particularly the radio stations ZIP and FAME FM show their spineless bias and hypocrisy by banning the very thought-provoking and hard-hitting Twin of Twins song How Come. It has been quoted by unnamed sources that one of the 'parties' mentioned in the song by the Twins as having 'allegedly' committed certain crimes, has had their high-priced lawyers threaten to sue the stations if they kept playing the song."

The release continued, "Meanwhile the same radio stations are happy to play the titles performed by artistes that both promote and advocate violence and degrade women. They still continue to play songs by artistes that promote sexual promiscuity and encourage teenagers to engage in activities that are unfit for minors."

However, Stephen Greig, attorney-at-law and company secretary for the RJR Communications Group, which includes FAME FM, RJR and Hitz 92 FM, among other stations, says the song has not been banned.

"There is not a ban on the song. We have reviewed the song in question and, from a legal point of view, there are a number of statements that we cannot substantiate. Out of caution, those parts of the song cannot be aired," Greig told THE STAR.

Lawsuits

"We don't want to expose the company to any lawsuits. There are certain parts of the song that could be contentious. If it was edited, we could look at it again," he said.

Efforts to contact station manager of Zip FM, D'Adra Williams, proved futile up to press time. However, Brain Schmidt, marketing manager of Irie FM, which owns Zip FM, told the STAR that he was not aware of a ban on the song.

The Twins explore various controversial issues in the song:

"How come di Government a fight Cash Plus ... How come fish inna church an' di church nuh tek a stance?/ How come gays give Jamaica deadline? Dem mussi waan mek another headline ..."

However, Curly Lox said he is not surprised the song is not being played because he knows the orders are coming from those in authority.

Mixed feelings

"We have mixed feelings 'cause we know what it's all about. We know it's coming from higher up. It (the song) is stepping on a few toes. Wi nuh blame anyone 'cause it may even be bigger than FAME FM," Curly Lox told THE STAR.

He says he does not expect to be treated fairly when he speaks the truth, but he will not compromise his morals and beliefs.

He says there are other Twin of Twins songs that have been silently banned from radio stations, among them, Wi Nah Trust No Rising Stars, as well as counteractions to Beenie Man that were recorded during their feud with him.

"The song has more questions than answers. The song is about questions, so if wi did give the answers a weh dem woulda do wi? I did not create the situation nor did I convict them of a crime," he said.

Rotting marijuana that Michael Jackson's family members mistook for heroin briefly caused detectives to look for further evidence of the illegal drug in the pop star's rented residence during the frenzied 48 hours after his death, according to sources close to the investigation.

Family members told coroner's officials that they found "tar heroin" in the Holmby Hills home's master bedroom. Only Jackson and his children had access to the room, according to court records unsealed Thursday. The discovery prompted authorities to obtain a search warrant for Jackson's house for heroin, hypodermic needles, cutting agents, scales, balloons, condoms, razor blades, buyer lists, and seller lists, among other items, documents show.

But within days, police had ruled out heroin as a factor in the singer's death, sources close to the investigation said. Lab tests showed that the purported heroin was actually moldy marijuana, sources said. And, according to court records, a lengthy police interview with Jackson's personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, placed another drug, the powerful anesthetic propofol, at the center of the investigation.

In conjunction with the release of his 11th solo album, The Blueprint 3, Jay-Z is gracing the cover of XXL magazine for the publications October issue. Speaking with XXLs Special Projects Editor Bonsu Thompson, the self-proclaimed, God MC delves deep into many hot topics currently buzzing around him, including his mega success, BP3, jabs at his new singles D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune) and Run this Town, his tenure as the president of Def Jam and life as hip-hops ultra businessman. Check out a few excerpts below.

CRITICISM OF D.O.A.
Im not hating on young people. Like, when people say that, Im like, What are you talking about? Its just stupid. Im not hating on young people Im not Bill Russell, [saying] Michael Jordan aint %&%*. Im saying Lil Wayne and Kanye are like LeBron and Kobe. My job as someone at the forefront of the game is to leave it in a better position than when I came in. Same way that Russell [Simmons] left it to me. Cause this thing saved my life. Literally. So I have a responsibility to it karmically. And after that its on you. I did my part. I made D.O.A. I said it. I made the statement. I made the push. Here, yall take it from here.

HIS LEGACY AS FORMER DEF JAM RECORDS PRESIDENT
So if you ask me to grade my performance as the president, Id say A-plus. No one can bat a 100. Its impossible. I mean, everyone is looking at my %&%*. But if we really looked under the hood [of] every single [record exec] and the acts they put out in that time, Id be comparable to anyone.

HIS STANDING IN THE GAME
But when I say Im the best, I dont say that outta my ass. I say that with all my stats behind me. I put that against anybody. I mean anybody. I really believe that I believe in a lot of things. I believe that SportsCenter is the best thing on TV. I shouldnt have to prove it. But I do have these stats to prove it. Im talking about real run. Im not talking about years off. Im talking about straightboom, boom, boomback to back. Were not talking about heritage acts either. Were not talking about respect what Ive done. Im talking No. 1 [albums] 10 times. The Beatles is the only one [to have more No. 1 albums]. They got 19, and if I get a surge of creativity, I could make nine albums next year.

Plies is breathing a little easier these days his brother, Ronell "Big Gates" Levatte, has been released after three years in prison. "I thank everybody that continued to support not only me, but my situation. I thank everybody that continued to pray for my situation with my brother," Plies said on Friday, the day after Big Gates' release. Gates began his sentence in 2006 for his involvement in a shooting at a club in Gainesville, Florida.

"I had an opportunity yesterday April 9, a day I'll never forget I had a chance to go down to Coleman correctional facility and see him walk out," Plies said. "That meant everything to me. I haven't had a chance to enjoy an Easter with him over the course of the last three years, man. I told him I was gonna take yesterday off let's take time to smell the roses. But he came home straight in work mode. Thank God for the opportunity, man, and everybody who prayed for the situation around the country. It means everything to me. That was a part of my life I've been missing for a few years. That was his second time in prison I told him either one of us can go down this road. We don't do each other good for me to go to prison or him to go to prison. For me to see him come home was everything to me."

Plies has often talked about his brother as well as others in the black community who have been incarcerated in songs such as "100 Years," "Die Together" and "2nd Chance," off his current album, Da Realist.

"I think it's important," he said about addressing the prison system and its inequities. "[Me and my brother] talked a long time yesterday and, like I said, it's so many more people. He gave it to me in the simplest form possible. He said, 'Behind that wall, there's more people who are suffering, struggling, disappointed, sincerely hurting.' People will never understand it unless you are a part of that system. People tell you that some people deserve to be there. I can't never say they wrong. But I do know it's a lot of people in those situations. It's a lot of pain and struggle that they go through. My new vow that I made to myself is that regardless of my situation and my fame, [rapping about the penile system] that's something that's always gonna be a part of me and my responsibility to do everything I can to make sure that those people's voices behind those walls live on. I'll always be a representation of them."

Plies' next single, "Plenty Money," is due later this year, and he also plans to drop a new LP in August or September. The MC's reality show, "Goonette," is currently being shopped to various cable networks.

It goes on: The drugs PROPOFOL and LORAZEPAM (Ativan) were found to be the primary drugs responsible for Mr. Jackson's death. Other drugs detected were: Midazolam (Versed), Diazepam (Valium), Lidocaine (topical anesthetic) and Ephedrine (used to treat hypotension associated with anesthesia). Cash-strapped music producer Scott Storch has lost his longrunning battle to save his Florida mansion from repossession. The star hit the headlines earlier this year after he missed payments on his massive Miami, Florida home. Storch defaulted on the 10-bedroom property last July (08), but staved off foreclosure after he was declared bankrupt. The bankruptcy order has now been dismissed and the SunTrust Bank bought the property back at auction on Friday (21Aug09) for $5.5 million - $1.5 million less than its estimated value, according to TMZ.com Storch, 35, who also fell behind with his child support payments, recently opened up about his financial worries, blaming his money situation on a drug habit that saw him blow his multi-million dollar fortune on cocaine.

Busy Signal Locks and Loads Europe

busy-signal-europe-tour-jamaican.jpgTop dancehall deejay Busy Signal can officially claim Europe as his own. Busy Signal recently returned from a two week tour where he gave performances in Sweden, Germany, Norway and Italy. Busy Signal was definitely a welcomed Jamaican act, based on the you tube hits and online posts of his performances almost immediately after each show, and the shocking colour graffiti signage bearing his name on the walls surrounding various cities.

The Uppsala festival in Sweden could be considered the highpoint of his trip to Europe - after giving an hour-long performance to the large crowd, it was clear that they could not get enough of the busy one - who returned to the stage to give an additional half hour.

Busy performed hit after hit including the hugely popular "One More Night" which had the ladies swooning, and the heart pounding hit, "Up in her Belly" and of course "Da style Deh".

JAMAICAN MAN IN DRESS-WEARING PAGEANT

August 27, 2009

A Jamaican male is among five gay Caribbean men set to compete in a Gay Caribbean pageant to be held in New York on September 19.

The pageant, which is being held for the first time this year, will see the men competing in full female attire in every segment. The men will appear in couture swimwear and evening wear, and will also have to perform a talent piece. An interview segment is also included. In the swimwear segment, contestants will have to do a dramatisation representing a local legend from their home country.

Hemish Gervis, the organiser of the pageant, told THE STAR that all contestants, except the Jamaican, live their lives as men.

This year we had five contestants but we plan to make it even bigger next year when we seek corporate help."

He said the contestants would be judged by three graduates of leading performing arts schools and the winner would receive prizes of both cash and kind.

Ganja Plane Crash

Ganja Plane Crash_puru.jpgYesterday a Unites States registered twin-engine aircraft crashed killing two men who were on board. The plane which is to be on a drug mission to Jamaica crashed yesterday morningon a private road owned by Windalco Bauxite Company in Schwallenburgh district, near the St Ann-St Catherine border.

The crash occurred around 15 miles south of the resort town of Ocho Rios in St Ann, at nine o'clock, deep in the hilly region of the bauxite mining operations where the company-owned road stretches for more than 20 miles.

The police said they had intelligence the plane was to pick up a shipment of compressed ganja when the crash occurred. Four men were later taken into custody by the St Catherine police, after nearly 2,000lb of ganja was discovered in a vehicle in which the men had been traveling.

The police claimed the weed was the alleged shipment
The National Water Commission (NWC) is the latest utility entity to come under scrutiny for its billing system, as a single woman has received a bill for more than $1.9 million.

The woman, a resident of Stony Hill, St Andrew, was slapped with a $1,957,993.48 bill, which was due last Wednesday.

"They want people to have a heart attack," the woman said yesterday.

"How can they send out something like that to people," she asked.

Charles Buchanan, corporate public relations manager at NWC, told The Gleaner that an investigation would be conducted into the matter to ascertain what caused the apparent error.

"If a bill is too high or low, then the account is flagged. Someone manually checks these flags. Sometimes, a person will revisit the location. It appears that system did not serve to do that," said Buchanan.

The woman is, however, frustrated as this is possibly her second erroneous bill from the commission.

Moving from $600

Last month, she was billed $3,265.87, which was not in accord with a usual monthly charge of approximately $600.

"I live in a one-bedroom apartment. I don't wash there, I don't even cook there, I only bathe there," she said.

The woman said in the past month she has visited an NWC office four times, reporting the matter.

Last week, the Jamaica Public Service Company issued a bill for more than $400,000 to another single woman. The light and power company is also being criticised over its billing system after issuing bills outside of a 31-day cycle.

MTV reports:

50 Cent may rub some rappers in New York the wrong way at times, but the Queens-bred artist is generous as any entertainer when it comes to serving his community and fostering a direct relationship with fans.

This weekend was shaping up to be a display of his altruism: on Saturday he's busing in a number of residents from his former South Jamaica, Queens neighborhood to New Jersey for a day at Six Flags Great Adventures amusement park, followed by a 50 performance.

But his "40 Day" event, also known as "Family Day," scheduled for Sunday has hit a major snag and is being postponed indefinitely, MTV News has learned.

The rapper's representative released this statement to MTV News exclusively regarding the festivities.

"The G-Unity Foundation and New York Restoration Project are deeply saddened and disappointed to learn that the permit for our upcoming Family Day event was not granted by the City," the statement read. "As a result, Family Day scheduled for August 30th has been postponed until further notice."

The project, sponsored by 50 and actress Bette Midler, drew the ire of the city when authorities discovered the rapper may perform at the event. The drummed up controversy around the event, reporting that locals were concerned about violence. The story cited a number of local sources, several of them anonymous, with one person saying "police b**** were worried that a rival or punk out to make a name for himself would try to shoot Fitty during the performance."

The rapper spoke with New York City Mayor Michael Blo****erg and assured officials he would not be performing. Blo****erg confirmed he talked with 50 and indicated the event would still take place. The two seemed to settle on a compromise that things could proceed if the rapper didn't perform.

G-Unit rapper Tony Yayo said the event would still take place despite the minor setback when he spoke to MTV News one day after Blo****erg told reporters he met with 50.

"The mayor was saying he spoke to 50 and he agreed that it wouldn't be a performance. Yo, I can't get at the mayor," Yayo said. "I don't even wanna say anything bad about him I don't wanna get pulled over when I leave from outta here! But 50's big, 50s bigger than life. Rumor is he spent over half a million dollars on this."

But staff at a veterinary clinic said the student showed up on time for his 1 p.m. co-op placement interview.

But when employees noticed *lo** on his leg, they called police.

He and the other student were finally taken to hospital.

"He did really well on the interview and we were very proud of him for sticking to the appointment," said veterinarian Kent Ackerman, adding he was "shocked" the teen would do so.

Police were looking for two or three suspects seen running north out of the area.

Initial reports of a gun being seen prompted Emergency Task Force teams to search the collegiate.

findImg.php?pic_size=200&table_name=news_img_tab&table_field=img_id&img_id=1461 On a Thursday Night in the middle of the concrete jungle, the Lions come out to play. Already notorious for its garrison politics, this particular downtown community cements its reputation by adding brute sport to its list of attributes. Unyielding to outside authority, its proud residents are often misunderstood by outsiders who fear what they dont understand. As a population detached and growing larger each week the anticipation is thick in the air as we witness an incredibly entertaining release.

The crowd that surrounds is jovial, boisterous and dense and since were late it takes great effort to penetrate this barrier. Its a privilege to stand close; everybody wants to see whats going on. Its Thursday Night at the Fights- street brawling in its most organized form; a makeshift ring constructed of two ropes held in place by feeble pieces of wood, lodged not too securely in the ground and a couple of nearby lampposts.

Theres no pretense here. No one bothers about things as trivial as mouthguards or doctors or even a bell. Many are dressed in rags and bear a slight resemblance to guttersnipes. To others, these are the dregs of society. Anyone brave enough (or drunk enough) to step inside must be prepared to take a beating; the crowd doesnt react well to boring fights. So when two boys calling themselves Tall Man and Tupac, (neither looking a day over twelve) knock fists to start their fight, little Tupac stares up at the other with a lust for *lo** in his eyes.

tupac.gifTheir style of fighting is a c****ination of traditional boxing and raw street-fighting. Fists are flung without mercy, covered with nothing more than thin bag-training gloves, each blow connecting with a reverberating thud as the commentator echoes Boop!-Bap!-Boop! provoking the crowd to roars of laughter. But this only whets their appetite, they want *lo**.

Though the tall one has the advantage of height he is reluctant to use it, and the smaller is angrier with each blow he receives, eyes *lo**shot and filled with tears he lunges at the other.

Dizzy from the impact and only about five minutes into the fight Tall Man asks for water. Its all he can ask for, all he can get. If he falls theres no doctor by the ringside or any cars that could transport him to one. Many taxis arent caught here this close to midnight.

More cackles from the pack as they tease the boy for his weakness and during these water breaks, the DJ plays some tunes to keep the crowd bubbly.

True enough to the crowds judgment, the boy punks out after about two more rounds, retreating, in shame to the crowd amidst shouts of disappointment, he will have to answer to whomever forced him in there.

The mob grows restless, theyre hungry for another. In jumps a heavy-set female. She is missing a tooth or two. Apparently she has been here before; its a weekly tradition here, and people will gladly take a punch or two, as long as they can prove themselves the more merciless by the end of the fight.

The man on the mic sips his beer and calls for a contender. She is viciously intimidating, this beast of a woman, and although the crowd wants *lo**, none seem too willing to spill their own, until a pretty adolescent with nothing but skin on her bones steps into the ring. Though she is reputed to be quite an agitator the crowd objects with shouts of murder!

She is already wearing her gloves, her face is fixed with a stare that means that she is serious, and it is with a great amount of persuasion that she eventually yields to the wishes of the crowd. It is they who rule this arena. Easily, the girl would have shattered under the weight of the whales blow.

Out steps another, equally as intimidating as the one who awaits her; her arms covered in scars and her face bleached to its second layer of skin, there is an sinister grin across her face and the crowd screams in excitement, as she dares her opponent to cross her.

This promises to be a fun fight.

They strike each other with intense force and speed, and the pack must move with them, ducking out of the way because of their proximity to the ring, and when one person shifts, another slides into his space if it means having a better view, and when the crowd shifts again, one squeezes in friends. But in this crowd we are all one and we lean on each other for support, it is one big rollercoaster ride we all enjoy.

girls.gifThe contender smiles though the blows to her face have turned it purple and she is blinded by the hair extensions that keep falling over her face and she is being beaten as a consequence.

We are distracted for a moment as a fight breaks out in the middle of the crowd. Someone falls to the ground collapsing under the force of a punch, but no one really cares. If they wanted an audience they would step into the ring. Theres not much respect for those not brave enough to display their skill in front of the crowd.

Such distractions only last for only a moment.

A little boy has managed to sneak to the front while we are distracted and he is blocking the others from where he is standing. Go roun! shouts an older youth whom he must obey. In this community everyone is everyones parent.

Without further delay its time for the real rumble. Lu, the reigning King of the ring looks to be about 6 feet tall and 300 pounds heavy. It is he we have come to see. The Dancehall music blares from the speakers as he teases the crowd by pretending to charge at people he could easily knock unconscious and were anxious to see him fight someone ominously known only as Strength.

After maybe fifteen minutes of the charade the crowd grows restless, the music cannot fool us any longer, we want to see him fight and were realizing that a worthy contender has yet to challenge him, Lu disappears with promises to return, but the music can hold us no longer.

The crowd disperses like ants escaping rain, the streets are empty. Its as though noone was ever here; and seven days seems much too long to wait for another Thursday Night at the Fights.

Woman Suffers Orgasm-Related Stroke
Rare Sex-Related Strokes Occur When Several Risk Factors Converge

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(WebMD) Sex triggered a life-threatening stroke in a healthy 35-year-old Illinois woman, her doctors report.

Sex- and orgasm-triggered strokes in relatively young women and men are rare, but not unheard of. They require a c****ination of factors and events not unusual in themselves, but which are highly unlikely to occur at the same time.

The 35-year-old woman's symptoms were typical of this unusual kind of "cryptogenic" stroke, says Jose Biller, MD, professor and chair of the neurology department at Loyola University, Chicago.

"This young woman ... while having intercourse had numbness on the left side of her face, slurred speech, and weakness in her left arm," Biller tells WebMD. "When she was transferred to our care six hours after onset, she was completely unable to move her left arm, her face was paralyzed, her speech was garbled, and she was in a state of panic."

It was too late to inject the woman with the clot-busting drug tPA, which must be given within three hours of a stroke. So Biller's team quickly ran a catheter from an artery in the woman's groin up into her brain to find the *lo** clot by angiography. Once it was found, they had only one option: to apply tPA directly to the clot.

It was a risky decision. "We did this with a lot of sweat," Biller says.

The woman's symptoms began to improve almost immediately; within an hour she was out of the woods and within 12 hours the symptoms were almost gone. Today she is well, with only an almost imperceptible fold in the skin under her nose and slight loss of dexterity in her left hand.

Stroke From Sex

Why did sex trigger this young woman's stroke? She shared one thing in common with six other young people who suffered sex-related strokes: a small opening in the wall between the two upper chambers of her heart.

One in four adults has this minor heart defect, called a patent foramen ovale or PFO. A PFO allows some *lo** to flow from the right side of the heart to the left side. This *lo** bypasses the lung and goes straight to the brain.

Most people with a PFO have no symptoms and don't know they have it. But 40% of people who suffer a cryptogenic stroke -- stroke of no known cause -- have a PFO.

*lo** flow through a PFO increases when a person strains, such as bearing down during a bowel movement or breathing out with the mouth closed and nostrils pinched shut.

It also happens during sex, particularly during orgasm, says Brett L. Cucchiara, MD, director of the Penn Stroke Center at the University of Pennsylvania. Cucchiara was not involved in the Biller report, but studied two cases of sex-related stroke in 2006.

"In one of the cases we presented, it is a little embarra**ing, one woman had stroke onset coincident with orgasm and having this sort of spontaneous guttural utterance or moan," Cucchiara tells WebMD.

But just having a PFO isn't enough to cause a stroke. A person also must have a *lo** clot, and that *lo** clot must break loose and enter the heart just in time to be *u*ked through the PFO during sex.

Normally a small *lo** clot would simply get stuck in the lungs and dissolve. But a *lo** clot that passes through a PFO can lodge in the brain and cause a stroke.

Biller's team did indeed find that their patient had a small *lo** clot in her leg, probably as a side effect of the oral contraceptives she used for birth control.

"This is a rare occurrence," Biller stresses.

"The vast, vast, vast majority of people with PFOs go through life and never have any problems," Cucchiara says. "You have to keep this risk of stroke during sex in perspective. The risk is very low.

"If you develop sudden neurological symptoms during sex, it could be a stroke and you need to seek help urgently and go to the emergency room," Cucchiara says.

"But you should not spend a lot of time worrying about this. Even if you have a PFO, of all the things to worr about in life, this ranks near the bottom in risk."

There are devices available for closing PFOs. But Biller and Cucchiara both note that doctors currently don't recommend this procedure -- even for most people who have already suffered a stroke.

That recommendation didn't convince Biller's young patient.

"She was scared to death, and she and her boyfriend and family were pushing us very hard to close the defect, so that is what we did," Biller says. "So she had the device implanted to close the PFO."

A woman in America was accidentally shot while sitting on the toilet when the person in the next toilet cubicle dropped their gun.

53-year-old Janifer Bliss was sitting in the cubicle in a hotel bathroom in Tampa, Florida when she was hit in the leg by the stray bullet.

According to authorities, the woman in the next cubicle accidentally let her handgun fall out of her waist holster, and it fired when it hit the ground.

Bliss was taken to hospital for treatment, although her injuries were not serious.

The 56-year-old woman who dropped the gun did have a concealed weapons permit, police say. The State Attorney's Office is considering whether or not to bring charges against the gun-dropping woman.

A BLONDE has made neighbours lives hell for 2½ years with her noisy BONKING. Screaming Kerry Norris, 29, regularly keeps at it until 6am her headboard banging her flats wall. Shocked neighbour Michelle Tyrrell yesterday told JPs how her daughter aged four asked her: Mummy what does f*** me mean? HGV driver Richard Powell, 36, said he had to take days off work due to lack of sleep. He told local JPs in Brighton: The headboard keeps me awake all night. Wife Sarah said: Its disgusting. Mum-of-one Norris hauled into court for breaking a noise abatement order insisted: I have a normal sex life. Lover Adam Hinton declared: She does call out. But she doesnt call out f*** me we just do it. Advertisement Norris was fined £200 plus £100 costs and told to pay a £15 victim surcharge.

The most recent 'sex among schoolers' clip was sent to my personal e-mail address three times.

I read the commentary then deleted the message. And it wasn't so much my lack of interest in amateur pornography. I just hate attachments. Me nuh have the time fi dat. I open e-mail attachments when it have to do with serious business. Is true; so if you sending me a good joke and it not in the body of the email sorry, di laugh lost!

But two readers 'box-iti-back' to me. One came with another crude caption. The second one, however, made me think. It came from a young lady who said "bwoy Blakka, mi shame fi dah girl deh. And dem bwoy deh too wicked. You need fi watch the video and talk bout it" So, I painstakingly opened the attachment, and watched the tape.

Damning act

Before commenting on the tape, a word on the commentaries: In all the messages I received, people damned the act generally, (or found it a source of amusement) but appeared to reserve special condemnation for the girl. One friend of mine made no mention of the boys - one physically and others vicariously penetrating the girl - but described the girl thus: "dat wutless gal wid har foot up inn di air like TV antennae is a disgrace to all schoolgirls".

Only one of five had sympathy for the girl and condemnation for the boys. Interesting eh?

Strong case for condoms

And the video maybe makes a strong case for condoms in schools. The actors had no such prop on their set. But, I didn't just watch, I listened. I heard an unseen older boy. He was obviously the mastermind behind this project to record a daylight-schoolyard sex scene and send to people all over the world via MMS and Internet - I stay all the way a Canada and see it! His was the voice of authority. He was the producer/director/narrator of the video. He knew the name of the boy doing the command performance to satisfy his voyeurism, but only asked the girl her name for purposes of the video. To him she's a 'nobody'. She's been reduced to just a body part. And as he urged the performing male to increase the aggression on that body part, he used words like "ram", "grind" and "it"

Interestingly, from the clip I received, it appears as if either: 1. The 'act' was about to start again when the recording ended, or 2. Something went amiss with the sending so we get a recording that starts with the act in progress, then a cut back to the opening scene.

In this (either opening or continuing) scene, I see a girl who appears to lap her uniform skirt between her legs, close her legs, and attempt to push a boy away as he tries lift her legs. I hear her voice saying 'mi nah romp!' To me, she is maybe using all she can summon to try and say 'no!".

Based on the above, in many countries of the world she'd be called the victim, and the act could be called gang rape. But cool nuh man, is Jamaica; so we just call her a 'wutless gal!' and call di ting a sex tape. Yeah, I agree with my reader in her sympathy for this girl.

She very likely didn't 'ask for it' and was aggressively coerced, pressured, maybe even enticed with cash or persuaded by threat to momentarily give up her dignity while some sick boys digitally inscribe their perversions. Yeah man a so me see the thing. How you see it?
