Berlin mayor Klaus Wowereit (R) poses with Jamaica's Usain Bolt after offering him a piece of the Berlin wall on August 23, 2009 in Belrin. Superstar Usain Bolt replicated his Olympic gold medal tally at 2009 IAAF Athletics World Championships when Jamaica won the men's 4x100 metres relay title.

BERLIN (AP)Usain Bolt was honored by the city of Berlin by receiving an original segment of the Berlin Wall nearly three tons of it.

The Jamaican sprinter, who broke world records in winning gold medals in the 100 and 200 meters, was presented with the piece of wall at a small ceremony Sunday, the final day of the world championships.

The 12-foot high section will be delivered to Bolts training camp in Jamaica.

The piece of the wall, which divided communist East Berlin from West Berlin between 1961 and 1989, is decorated with a life-size painting of Bolt running on the blue track of the Olympic stadium and the words NEW WRnew world record. Bolt set a world record in the 100 at 9.58 seconds and 19.19 in the 200.

I will never forget Berlin, Bolt said at the ceremony. Ich bin ein Berlino.

The bear mascot of the championships is called Berlino, while the phrase ich bin ein Berliner was used by former President John F. Kennedy during a visit to West Berlin.

Berlin Mayor Klaus Wowereit said Bolt had shown that one can tear down walls that had been considered as insurmountable.

The Berlin Wall came down in 1989, as communism was collapsing in Eastern Europe.

Wycliffe Steely Johnson, one half of the outstanding dancehall production duo Steely & Clevie, has passed away. Just a few days ago, a media report indicated that he was suffering from pneumonia and was in critical condition at a New York hospital. His long-time musical partner Clevie Brownie had reportedly said that the chance of his survival was slim; and so it was. Condolences to the family, friends and associates of one of the most outstanding and influential producers of dancehall music ever.

Michael Jackson's father Joe has signed a legal document promising not to raise his grandchildren as per his late son's apparent wishes.
Joe states that he consents to wife, Katherine, being the guardian of "my grandchildren Michael Joseph Jackson Jr, Paris-Michael Katherine Jackson, and Prince Michael Jackson, II".

The papers state that, while he will visit the kids, he agrees he will not be the one making the decisions about their upbringing.

"I have had a close family relationship with these grandchildren since their birth," Joe says in the court declaration filed in Los Angeles Superior Court.

"I do visit the family residence from time to time and will continue to do so, however I will not be involved in raising the children... I understand that all decision-making authority regarding the children will rest with Katherine Jackson... Katherine Jackson is a wonderful caretaker and guardian, and has done an excellent job raising our children and other grandchildren."

Jackson's mother Katherine was named the children's permanent guardian during the brief court hearing on Monday.

It's claimed the Jackson family feared Joe - who has been accused of violence against his own children, including Michael - may have jeopardised Katherine's chances of being awarded custody had he insisted on playing a significant role in the siblings' upbringing.

The singer's will named his mother as the children's guardian in the event of his death. His father wasn't mentioned.

Tales From A Groupie

trey-songz-singer-male.jpgHow did yall meet? We met at one of his concerts in Miami. He was 22 years old at the time and I was 20. I didn't meet him till after the concert when every body was gettin autographs and stuff, one of his security guards came over to me and said that trey wanted me, so I went over there and he asked for my number and said he'd call me later that night I didn't really think he would though.

What was the sex like?
Well to start off his d*ck was a little over average, I'd guess about 8 or 9 inches. When I got over there we started off talkin and then we just started kissin. He Took my shirt off and started *u*kin my nipples, which got me really wet. then he took his clothes off and I gave him head for about 10 minutes. After that he took out a condom from and droor and took off my skirt and thong and put it in me. He started off slow and long but then he got up to fast and short strokes. Then he told me to turn around and he had regular anal sex.

What was his favorite position?
I think it was probably regular[missionary].

Would I do it again?
Maybe...It would depend

I'm not sure what it would depend on, it sounds like pretty good sex to me...

Even though her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown was convicted of viciously attacking her, Rihannanot only doesnt think the restraining order which keeps him at a safe distance for the next five years is not needed, but she still hasnt given up on the idea of taking him back. Though Rihanna does not object to the sentence, she did feel it was unnecessary to have the restraining order in place for five years, Rihannas attorney, Donald Etra, tells OK!. Sources close to the star say she favors a less severe order that would only require Chris not to annoy or ha**** her. She really doesnt see the necessity of keeping an entire football-field length between them, one insider says. Shes forgiven him. And he is remorseful. Chris really wants to see her, says Rihannas friend. Indeed, in last nights interview with CNNs Larry King, Chris admitted that being apart has been difficult, but well always be friends. Rihannas pal adds that despite all thats passed between them and despite her recent flirtation with rapper Aubrey Drake Graham at Katy Perrys Aug. 30 post-concert party at H.wood nightclub Rihanna still has feelings for her ex. She gets missing Chris and the s**t starts all over. A kiss and a slap, a kiss and a slap. Right now, shes feeling strong. But shes switched gears in the past and taken him back.

Beenie Man said that he had attempted to approach the Alliance to do his Beenie Sizzle show as a sign of unity, especially in a time when Jamaica is doing so well on the international scene with the sprinting prowess of its athletes.

We stand up one place backstage and mi see Julian and mi ask Baller Davis fi say to Julian (Killers manager) if the artistes dem nah do the show, and him say the artistes dem ah go Japan. Mi approach dem because mi ah promote peace, and ah push unity, but dem refuse. So big up Shelly Ann Fraser and Bolt on their great performances in Berlin, the fans dem ah say Gully and Gaza right now, and mi ah say Jamaica right now, he said.

He said that he was promoting a feel-good vibe at Beenie Sizzle which will also double as a celebration of the athletes performances in Berlin, Germany.

Beenie Sizzle will be about great music, I am giving away 5,000 tickets so that the fans can come and celebrate being Jamaican and the great performances of the athletes, he said.

The show, sponsored by corporate giants LIME, will feature musical heavyweights such as Rick Ross, Vybz Kartel and the Portmore Empire, Queen Ifrica, Sizzla, Destra, Jah Cure, Aidonia, Junior Reid, Freddie McGregor and the Big Ship family, Mr. Vegas, Laden, DAngel, Barrington Levy, G Whiz, Heavy D, RDX, Mykal Rose, Nesbeth, I Octane, Goddy Goddy and Ward 21.

LIME will distribute the 5,000 tickets through a texting competition open to the public and details of that will be announced in the press soon once approval is granted by the Betting Gaming and Lotteries Commission.

Part proceeds of the event will be used to rebuild a school in Waterhouse, and Beenie Man is joining forces with the LIME Foundation to give out computers and provide Internet services in war-torn areas of the Corporate Area, as well as rural Jamaica.

Big up to Beenie Man and Bounty Killer who worked a good set in New York at the Roseland Ballroom in Manhattan on Saturday, September 5.

Inspite of all the passa pass and mix up taking place on the Jamaican front, both are smart enough to realize that that kind of behavior will not do on the international level. Yeah, Bounty did still throw some words on artistes who werent there but for the most part he was super cool and the crowd loved him. Beenie too was a hit as was expected and by the time he was through he had shown everyone why after all this time in the business, he is still very much in demand

Scarface: "I’m Done"

August 4, 2009

Envision a desolate warehouse; everything about this building is nondescript. Lets call this place corporate headquarters. Inside the hollow doors, a blinding spotlight shines down illuminating a wretched assembly line. There is a listless conveyer belt; it whines as it shoves forth prepackaged stereotypes. Container after container whirs by in an overwhelming fury. Within these shrink-wrapped skeletons are faux Hip-Hop reproductions. Robotic arms line each side of the conveyor belt; theyre positioned to snatch away any renegade instances of creativity and uniqueness that may have slipped past. These distinguishing traits are no longer necessary and are carelessly tossed aside. Innovation and creativity are sacrificed for a mass-produced sound. The corporation gives little yet reaps millions. Thats the cost-effective Amerikkkan way. Somewhere a greedy cash register laughs, cling cling.

These warehouses are springing up around the nation. Hip-Hop is being hunted and transformed into an empty rap clone. Some MCs, like Brad Scarfacemag-glass_10x10.gif Jordan are aware of this mutilation. Rather than entertaining the powers that be; Scarface has chosen to remove himself from that particular arena.

AllHipHop.com: With your contribution to the game you have our respect and our ear; what would you say about the evolution Hip-Hop? How would you describe what it was in its infancy to what it has become today?

Scarface: The 360 deal is f***ery. Youre giving up money all the way around. What ever you do the record company is there. Thats bulls***. My advice to any artist is to do what Lil Wayne is doing or what Soulja Boy is doing, maintain the rights to your s***. That 360 s*** is total f***ery. I wouldnt dare even dream about doing a 360 deal. As a matter of fact, thats some made up s***; thats not even in the books.

Well, with any kind of music that you f*** with, you got some great music and you got some not so great music. Thats Hip-Hop, thats R&B, thats Rock and Rolllet me give you an example. A Rock guy, his name is f***ing Meat Loaf, right. I think that hes the absolute f***ing worst! But, people love Meat Loaf. You can think of the worst MC youve ever heard and people love it, you can think of the worst R&B singer youve ever heard and people love it. So, its all in ones preference on whats great and whats not

AllHipHop.com: What would it take to get you out of retirement or this just a self-imposed hibernation period?

Scarface:I dont know. I dont like it no more. I dont like the powers that be at all. I dont like it.

AllHipHop.com: Are you so disgusted with them that youll stop making music, period? So personally, youve stopped all recording, or you wont make another track for the public to hear?

Scarface: Thats hard to tell.

"I think the business side of Hip-Hop pissed me off. You know, the business side, the political side the business side and the political side of Hip-Hop pissed me off."

-Scarface

AllHipHop.com: After your work on Emeritus have you made any new tracks?

Scarface: No.

AllHipHop.com: Have you been back to the studio?

Scarface: Nope, and I dont plan on going either.

AllHipHop.com: No? [stagnated silence] How can you love Hip-Hop and feel like that?

Scarface: I think the business side of Hip-Hop pissed me off. You know, the business side, the political side the business side and the political side of Hip-Hop pissed me off.

AllHipHop.com: Do you feel as though youre equipped as a business man to handle what was going on in the industry?

Scarface: I dont want to be equipped for it.

AllHipHop.com: You just dont like playing the game?

Scarface: Yeah, I didnt like playing the game, you know. You got to play the game fair. If the game aint played fair thenyou could have it all and still lose everything. They dont play the game fair. You got to play the game fair, man. Any game that you decide to play in life; you got to play the game fair. If you dont play the game fair then nobody will play the game with you no more.

AllHipHop.com: Is it inevitable for our respected MCs to stop making music because theyre disgusted with the bogus practices in the industry?

Scarface: Its so many things on what the industry is. Why would you buy somebodys s*** when you can download it for free?

AllHipHop.com: But thats just one aspect. Some of these rappers dont deserve to get their album purchased when they only have one good track and maybe a funny skit. I know you personally dont get down like that; but, you have to look at it from both sides. Besides that what other industry practices dont you agree with?

Scarface: Like I said, I just dont like the way that these record company owners and executives are playing god with a n**** career.

AllHipHop.com: Why not embrace the indie route?

Scarface: Why?

AllHipHop.com: You will have full creative control; youd be able to do everything on your own. You wouldnt have to rely on the puppet masters approval to get your creativity out there.

Scarface: You know whats so cold about the puppet masters?

AllHipHop.com: Whats that?

Scarface: The puppet master wont admit to being the puppet master. Thats whats so cold about the puppet master. Man, Id rather not, theres so many other ways, for me to Im so talented in other areas; so, f*** Rap, f*** Hip-Hop! Ill say it again; f*** Hip-Hop.

AllHipHop.com: But what about your fans; how can you say that?

Scarface: My fans should say f*** Hip-Hop, too. Hip-Hop doesnt even exist no more. Does it; is it Hip-Hop still? Is there such a thing? Define the word.

"You was proud to go and buy a f***ing Ice-T record 6N The Morning, Power. You was proud to go and pick up A Tribe Called Quest or N.W.A. You was proud of an Ice Cube or Kool G Rap record....you was proud to own that s***."

-Scarface

AllHipHop.com: To me, Hip-Hop is a cultural element of expression. It expresses lyricism, dance, art; it gives insight into our community. Why do you think Hip-Hop is losing that essence?

Scarface: Any two ways that you get a White boy singing the Blues; somebodys lying somewhere. You know, the Blueshave you heard the Blues before? For a White boy to put the Blues out, and says whats hot in Blues, its a lie; because, he doesnt even have no idea. He doesnt have no idea why this is done and why we feel how we feel. You cannot expect for a 45 year old 50 year old White boy to dictate whats hot within the Black community.

Why the f*** are they in charge of what we put out? Well they are. But, why the f*** do we allow them to be in charge of whats put out. Thats not Hip-Hop, man. That white boy is not Hip-Hop, youre f***ing 50 years old, man. How could you even think that?

AllHipHop.com: Will the public ever reach the point of critical mass to where we will demand that Hip-Hop stop being manufactured to fit one certain sound and fit one certain image? Will a boycott work?

Scarface: Let me tell you what Hip-Hop is [and] let me tell you what Hip-Hop was.

Hip-Hop was The Sugar Hill Gang, Kurtis Blow, Lovebug Starski, and Kool Mo Deeyou know. Hip-Hop was LL Cool J and Whodini, and Run-D.M.C. Hip-Hop was Blastmaster KRS-One, D-Nice, Big Daddy Kane, Marley Marl, MC Shan and Biz Markie.

You was proud to go and buy a f***ing Ice-T record 6N The Morning, Doggin The Wax, Power. You was proud to go and pick up A Tribe Called Questmag-glass_10x10.gif or N.W.A. You was proud of an Ice Cube or Kool G Rap record. You was proud to own AmeriKKKas Most Wanted; you was proud to own that s***. I agree that 2 Live Crew made a mark in Hip-Hop, you know. I believe that a lot of states in this country have dope MCs that made a huge impact on Hip-Hop. The minute it turned into a business and not a culture it became too watered down. The essence of Hip-Hop is not in the music anymore. The element of Hip-Hop is not in the music anymore.

AllHipHop.com: With that being said, and as a veteran MC, shouldnt you feel some sort of responsibility to bring it back to what it was? The kids coming up now, they really dont know any better unless they invest that time to go back to discover Big Daddy Kane, to go back to MC Shan, to go back to A Tribe Called Quest, to actually discover what it was then to what it is now

Scarface: I really think that N.W.A. made the best Hip-Hop records ever! I mean if you define Hip-Hop like you define the Blues; they made it a way of life rather than just a fad. You know, JJ Fad, MC Hammer, Big Kid Flash I know youve heard of these people, right?

"Hip-Hop aint no booty-dew. Do the booty-dew, do the booty-dewdo the so and so, do the so and so-you know. Dont get me wrong; every genre of music is going to need their dance records...

-Scarface

AllHipHop.com: What will it take for Hip-Hop to get to back to embracing creativity and delivering a message rather than being a numbers game?

Scarface: It aint no numbers game no more. Nobody has any numbers no more. Hip-Hop is changing; its a money thing. Until the powers that be start taking it seriously itll continue to be in the state that its in. Its some s*** thats out today that wouldnt have ever made it before the change. I think that today radio and visual played a huge part in what they say Hip-Hop is.

Middle-aged black people and middle-aged white people make up Hip-Hop; when honestly, youth is Hip-Hop. I hear some f***ing MCs that will forever go unnoticed because of the way that the game is. [Ed.s note: Scarface mentioned the greatness of K-Rhino and Z-RO as prolific Southern MCs.] But they always tell us the truth, the story. Hip-Hop aint no booty-dew.

AllHipHop.com: [laughs]

Scarface: [chants] Do the booty-dew, do the booty-dewdo the so and so, do the so and so-you know. Dont get me wrong; every genre of music is going to need their dance records. Youll have to listen very very closely to what Im saying. I feel like, the powers that be, that control whats being heard in black music and whats being signed in black music, you know, as far asthe people who put that s*** out there, man. They dont know nothing about our craft and our culture and our struggle.

Its impossible for Henry Fartburger to know whats hot in Hip-Hop. Its impossible, he dont know the culture, hes not familiar with the culture, dude. Hes never been to the f***ing hood, unless he signed one of these goofy ass n****s and they took him to out there, on a pass. Them mutha****ers dont pass through the hood, man. Theyre not from there. They dont know anything about us. They just sign a check. If you ask me its a f***ing conspiracy to destroy black musicto destroy the craft.

AllHipHop.com: Will Hip-Hop preserver and escape this stage that its experiencing now?

Scarface: With the 360 deals in place and people putting out songs that dont make no f***ing senserather than giving the great s*** a chance? Lets say that Eminem did between 6 and 7 [hundred] thousand the first week. Man, f***ing Eminem is brilliant. Thats a f***ing artist. It aint no f***ing way he shouldnt have did a million or two the first week. That muthaf***er is dope, man. But then you go to what we call that assembly-line Hip-Hop; muthaf***ers is going crazy for that s***. Were not hearing Eminem on mainstream radio. We only get to hear that on XM. Theyre not playing Jadakiss on mainstream radio.

We hear a lot of Wayne, which is good, to me Wayne is one of the dopest artists that is out. What about Outkast? Im not hearing them on mainstream no more. Are they trying to repaint the picture of what Hip-Hop really is? Are they trying to put another face on Hip-Hop? How could you?

AllHipHop.com: Did these feelings propel you to retire after you released Emeritus?

Scarface: Nah, man. Dissatisfaction, Im cool. Im going to have my fanbase. I think it was a lot of bulls*** between me and my record company that made me not want to f*** with it no more, in all honesty.

AllHipHop.com: Is this just a phase? Can you really stay away from the mic that long?

Scarface: F*** the mic. Man, f*** the microphone. Id rather watch from a distance.

I dont want nothing to do with it. Im done with that s***. That was a phase of my life that was good to pass on. Im just glad that its over. Im done.

"Im done."

Rapper Ludacris gives away cars to contest winners

AP, Sep 7, 2009 6:09 am PDT
Talk about a one-man stimulus package: Grammy-winning rapper Ludacris has given away 20 cars to people who wrote about their struggles to keep their jobs for a lack of wheels of their own.

Ludacris said he was taken aback after reading thousands of essays by people struggling or unable to buy cars needed to get to and from work or find jobs. The 31-year-old rapper felt he could step in and move them ahead, partnering with a suburban Atlanta dealership for Sunday's giveaway.

"People are getting laid off, and now are looking for jobs," Ludacris said. "To be efficient, you need some transportation of your own to get there. That's why I wanted to give back to those who need it."

Each of the used vehicles included free gas for 30 days. Winning contestants were responsible for tags, registration, tax and insurance. About 4,000 contestants submitted a 300-word essay to the rapper's foundation, explaining why they deserved a car.

One of the most touching stories Ludacris read was by Mading Duor.

Duor described how he moved to the United States six years ago after his mother, father, and five brothers and sisters were killed in Sudan. The man also wrote that a son was killed by a drunken driver in Atlanta a few years back.

"His story touched my heart," Ludacris said. "He's endured so much in his life and he's still here standing. I'm very proud to have helped him."

Duor, 33, has been able to keep a steady job at a school, but each day he felt stressed about how he was going to get to work. No longer.

"I'm so happy, that I'm nervous," said Duor, who won a Nissan Maxima. "When I look at my new car, I say to myself, 'Is this really happening?'"

Crystal Beauford, a single mother who used to ride the bus to two jobs and school, now has a Saturn Ion. The 26-year-old college student doesn't know how to drive the stick-shift vehicle, but said she'll learn.

"This is going to help me out so much," Beauford said. "It's a blessing."

Ludacris won Grammys for Best Rap Album for "Release Therapy" and Best Rap Song for "Money Maker

Vote for reggae singer Courtney John new music video Lucky Man on MTV U for fresh men video of the week. Voting runs from 8 AM (EST) Monday September 9, 2009 and ends 2 PM (EST) on Friday September 11, 2009 . Let show our support and vote for Courtney John Music video Lucky Man this is the only reggae music video in this competition so we need your help the video with the most vote will be added to MTV music video rotation.

Courtney John is not new to the world of reggae, but he revives the sensuality and security of the music with covers and originals reminiscent of Sunday evenings when the old schooled the young in the positive vibrations and footwork of the message and rhythm that is reggae music. Courtney John may be described as a wisp of rastaman with spring in his step and lyrics crooned with a sexy rasp of a Lucky Man. He blends timeless with the funk and drama of a Safer Place which reminds us that the message is the heartbeat of the music. Strangers will unite as One, standing strong and lovers will rock summer nights away whispering I Want To Get Next To You and making up to the lyrics of Miss You. St. Mary, Jamaica has produced another son with the magical words and mystical talent to take us back, bring us close, and remind us of the awtikal men and melodies Made in Jamaica.

Feed Back from Lindsay (MTV)

Im really enjoying this sound at the moment, especially as fall is upon us here in NYC and I am feeling nostalgic for the summer. Reggae is a great way to imagine the warmth of sun and sand again, as this genre always seems to carry that association. And as Courtney John is attempting to recapture times gone by, the whole package particularly suits my current mood. For certain, its so smooth and sweet that its easy to swallow hook, line and sinker. A pleasant delight on the ears.

A leading Swedish newspaper claims Israeli soldiers kidnap Palestinians to steal their organs and sell them in the black market.

"It was the middle of the night. The soldiers caused an electrical power outage in the entire village. Bilal was returned in a black bag; he had no teeth. The body was stitched from the neck all the way down to the abdomen," the Swedish newspaper quoted the mother as saying.

In an article titled They plunder the organs of our sons, the daily Aftonbladet said Israeli soldiers abduct young Palestinians from the West Bank and Gaza Strip and return their bodies to their families after removing their organs.

"Our sons are used as involuntary organ donors," relatives of Khalid a Palestinian man from Nablus told Donald Bostrom who authored the report.

He also reported the accounts of other Palestinians whose relatives are fallen the victim of the organ smuggling operation.

According to the report, all of the victims were killed and their bodies were autopsied.

The report also cited another similar incident in 1992, in which a young Palestinian activist was captured by Israeli soldiers in the Nablus area. The man was shot in the chest, both legs and the stomach and then transferred to "an unknown distention."

The man's body was found five nights later. "When Bilal was put into his grave, his chest was revealed and suddenly it became clear to the present what abuse he had been put through. Bilal was far from the only one who was buried cut-up from his stomach to his chin and the speculations about the reason why had already started," read the article.

The article also links the issue to a recently discovered crime syndicate in New Jersey, which was involved in organ smuggling. Several American rabbis were arrested in connection to the case.

DJ Naz blazes into Heineken Green Synergy semi-finals

Wednesday, September 02, 2009

DJ Naz continued on her history-making path by reaching the semi finals of the Heineken Green Synergy Competition after defeating Super O in the third quarter-finals. It is the first time a female DJ has past the elimination round of the competition, much less advance to the semi finals.

After getting by Super Stylz in the elimination round, DJ Naz was very impressive in her quarter-final match-up against Super O from Montego Bay especially in the 'tune-fi-tune' segment of the television show.

She is awaiting the outcome of the last quarter-final match-up between DJ Chungy from Mandeville and DJ Absolute from Negril.

Naz was on top of the world in her achievement. "I am very excited, in a way I was worried if Jamaica would like what they saw in terms of my performance but I am grateful for there support," she explained.

DJ NAS... am very excited, in a way I was worried if Jamaica would like what they saw in terms of my performance but I am grateful for their support

A keenly contested encounter has been taking place between DJ Chungy and DJ Absolute. Both have contrasting styles with DJ Chungy being the more technically skilled while DJ Absolute is a more hardcore DJ, more vocal but can hold his own in the other areas such as mixing.

DJ Chungy had advanced to the quarter-finals by defeating DJ Tippy while Absolute got by DJ Fire Chief for his place in quarter finals.

The television show had a mellow vibes with the set beautifully decorated by the Main Event team. The Dance Expressions girls added to the décor as they looked smashing in their Heineken outfits, which even included some fabulous Heineken sneakers.

The event was hosted by the Anushca Mai with Collin Hinds and Kurt Riley from FAME FM and 'singjay' Mr Vegas sitting in as judges.

In the first 5 minutes segment, playing first DJ Chungy gave an awesome display, doing some wicked mixing, scratching, cutting and body tricks including cutting with his back turned.

Chungy so far have been the most impressive in the technical aspect of the competition. He rocked the crowd with some popular hip hop and had some smooth transition changing from hip hop to dancehall, including Wasp's Nuh Lock Off The Sound and G Whizz's Life. Chungy maintained a high energy throughout his set and at times had his mentor Pink Panther getting out of his seat and waving his rag in delight.

DJ Absolute, although not as entertaining as DJ Chungy, held is own in this segment playing from hip hop, soca, including Allison Hinds' Roll It. He also played some popular dancehall tracks including Vybz Kartel's Wi Nuh Fraid A No Body.

Judge Collin Hinds noted that while both selections were entertaining, DJ Chungy brought on what was lacking in the competition - clean mixing, clean cuts, and scratching. Kurt Riley said that both DJs were excellent but commended Chungy for his technical skills.

Vegas got a little confused in comments mixing up Absolute for Chungy but off camera corrected himself and said that both did well but Chungy did better.

In the tune for tune segment DJ Chungy made his intentions clear starting off first he played Sound Bwoy A Get Dust Out Tonight. Absolute answered good with Etana's Not Afraid. It was to set the tone of what transpired in this round with Absolute having the answer for everything that Chungy 'dished out' at him.

Chungy played a Nesbeth dub plate of Board House Burn Down and Absolute answered with a counteraction done by the same artiste.

Chungy played more dub plates but again and again Absolute had counteractions for them, which excited the crowd.

Abolute was the more vocal of the two which also worked to his advantage. However both DJ's were guilty of playing far too many dub plates which took away from what the competition is all about.

To vote for DJ Chungy text or call in the number 11 to 444-MYDJ or 444-6935 or for DJ Absolute text or call the number 14 to 444-MYDJ or 444-6935.

Meanwhile, in the first semi finals play-off this week, DJ Shine from Spanish Town will face off with DJ Jagga from Port Antonio in what is expected to be a very hot battle.

Check out TVJ on Saturday at 9:00 pm for all the action as well as listen to FAME FM this Friday at 7:00 pm for the radio round.

Stranger accused of slapping crying child at store

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. --Police say a 61-year-old man annoyed with a crying 2-year-old girl at a suburban Atlanta Walmart slapped the child several times after warning the toddler's mother to keep her quiet.

A police report says after the stranger hit the girl at least four times, he said: "See, I told you I would shut her up."

Roger Stephens of Stone Mountain is charged with felony cruelty to children. It was unclear if he had an attorney and a telephone call to his home Wednesday was unanswered.

Authorities say the girl and her mother were shopping Monday when the toddler began crying. The police report says Stephens approached the mother and said, "If you don't shut that baby up, I will shut her up for you."

Authorities say Stephens then grabbed the 2-year-old and slapped her. The child began screaming and Stephens was arrested. Police say an examination showed the girl's face was slightly red.

deabadge.jpgThe United States government has made a formal request for the extradition of Jamaica Labour Party strongman Christopher Dudus Coke on alleged drug trafficking charges. Coke is the leader of Tivoli Gardens, where residents are fiercely loyal to the ruling party. Details are sketchy, however, Coke is believed to be on a list of drug trafficking suspects wanted by the US Drug Enforcement Agency. Coke is son of the late Lester Lloyd Coke, otherwise known as Jim Brown, leader of the feared Shower Posse who died at the general penitentiary in the 1990s while awaiting extradition to the US for murder and drug trafficking. Under existing conditions, the US request will be forwarded to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after which it is expected to be sent to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), then to the Attorney Generals Office and back to the DPP where arrests warrants are drawn up and sent to the police.

Kartel Jumps 20 Spot on Billboard
Leader of the Gaza, Vybz Kartel continues to make major strides in North America even without the opportunity to tour the United States.

His mega hit Ramping Shop featuring controversial female deejay Spice has jumped twenty (20) spots to #76 on the Billboard R&B and Hip Hop Charts since debuting a few weeks ago at #96 . The song is also enjoying heavy rotation on several U.S. based radio stations including New York's urban powerhouse Hot 97 and Power 105.1.

According to Kartel the addition of his song validates that dancehall is now at a world class level, where it's being embraced by everyone and is no longer just indigenous to the Caribbean.

Kartel, who dominates the local charts recently delivered a stellar performance at the Jungle Night Club in Negril. The deejay whose real name is Adidjah Palmer is slated to appear on the highly anticipated 2009 staging of Beenie Sizzle which gets on the way on August 22 at the National Stadium, from there it's off to Bermuda for a September 6th assignment.

We have embedded a copy of his Negril performance below for your viewing pleasure (see player below)

SALT LAKE CITY - A Salt Lake City woman who held a Guinness World Record for her long fingernails before they broke off in a car crash says it was the most dramatic event of her life. But Lee Redmond, who lost the fingernails in February, says it's now much easier to do things and her hands seem to fly with the weight of the nails gone.

The 68-year-old won't grow her nails out again, saying it took 30 years the first time and she may not live for another 30.

Redmond hadn't cut her nails since 1979 and entered the Guinness World Records book in 2002 for longest fingernails on a woman.

The Guinness Web site says her nails measured a total of more than 28 feet long in 2008, with the longest nail on her right thumb at 2 feet, 11 inches.

Beenie & Bounty To Share Stage

bounty-killer.jpg
On September 5, 2009 New York City's leading event promoters Upscale Crowd will venture where no promoter has dared to venture before.  In a never before seen event, the promoters have booked dancehall rivals Beenie Man and Bounty Killer to perform on the same stage in New York City.

After a 17 year rivalry between the "King of the Dancehall" and the "WarLord", which began in 1992, fans thought they would never live to see the day when both DJs would perform on the same stage.

The two, who have performed with other artists on a line-up in Jamaica and around the world, have never performed on the same stage in which they are the only two featured acts, dubbing this History in the Making.

Both Beenie Man and Bounty Killer have enjoyed success spanning more than 30 years between them both.  Beenie has released over 22 studio albums and 44 chart topping singles while Bounty has released over 13 studio albums and approximately 20 hit singles.

And though their styles differ, in that Beenie's songs are geared more toward the female crowd while Bounty's is more hard core tunes for the men, they have remained at odds.

Now, in a not to be missed event, the two will grace the stage at Roseland Ballroom, 239 West 52nd Street, New York, NY 10019.

Jamaica's leading deejay Vybz Kartel has been nominated for this year's Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards for Best Reggae Act.

In 2004, Kartel's MOBO nominations, along with those of Beenie Man,Elephant Man and Sizzla were withdrawn over concerns of homophobia, acommon issue with dancehall reggae in general.

He is up against Mavado, the 2008 winner of the MOBO Award for BestReggae Act, Alliance artiste Serani, Rastafarian singer Taurus Riley, and mult- Grammy Award winner Sean Paul. Kartel has added to hisinternational prestige with the Billboard charting Ramping Shop, however Sean Paul has once again hit the Billboard Top 100 with SoFine, the lead single from his latest album.

The Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards, established in 1995 by KanyaKing MBE and Andy Ruffell are held annually in the United Kingdom torecognise artists of any race or nationality performing black music.

The Mobo nominations were announced in London last week and theceremony i tself will be held outside London for the first time, takingplace in Glasgow, Scotland on September 30. Vybz Kartel has won anaward at the CUMA (Caribbean Urban Music Awards) in 2008. He also wonthree EME awards in 2009 for song of the year(Ramping Shop ft. Spice),Lyricist/Songwriter of the Year, and Male DJ of the Year. He and thePortmore Empire also swept the major categories of the HYPE TV Awardsas well.

The Kings, Run-DMC will be honored today in their hometown of Hollis, Queens as a street renaming and dedication will take place in honor of the three from 11a.m. 4p.m. Composed of Joseph Simmons as Run, Darryl McDaniels as DMC and Jason Mizel as Jam Master Jay, the trio is famed for crossing rock and rap in the music industry with hits like Walk This Way with Aerosmith. They were inducted, by rapper Eminem, into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame in April. A petition was submitted by New York's Hip-Hop Summit Youth Council earlier this year to local councilors in order to create a memory for the legendary Hip-Hop group. Think of it as the hood's version of a Hollywood Star on the Walk Of Fame. Located on the corner of 205th Street and Hollis Avenue, the street will now be dubbed Run-DMC JMJ Way. It will be in commemoration of the group's DJ, Jam Master Jay, who was murdered in Jamaica, Queens in October 2002, a case that is still unsolved. Councilman Leroy G. Comrie, a representative for the area of Hollis who sponsored the legislation, noted that McDaniels had contributed memorabilia to the proposed establishment of a Hollis Hip-Hop Museum which was once home to the Hollis Famous Burger. Run-DMC have been pioneers in numerous ways as a rap act including crossing over to world-wide audiences and acting in movies that helped to catapult the genre of Hip-Hop and tore the door down for future acts such as LL Cool J, Ice Cube, 50 Cent, and Nas. In related news, Jam Master Jay's protégé 50 Cent, will be releasing a documentary entitled Two Turntables And A Microphone. The film will dissect Jay's death and celebrate his life and feature interviews with Onyx, Rev-Run, Russell Simmons and others. The film premiered back in June 2008 at the 9th Annual Hollywood Black Film Festival at the Writers Guild Theater. The release of Two Turntables And A Microphone hasn't been determined but is scheduled to hit stores by early next year.

Having gone through his own lyrical battles with arch-rival Beenie Man Alliance general Bounty Killer said he would once again love to see both Vybz Kartel and Mavado publicly clear the air about their difference. The deejay, born Rodney Price, admitted to be concerned over the violent reports that have been surfacing in the media which, he believes, stems from supporters of the 'Gaza'/'Gully' feud who are determined to prove their loyalties. While not solely blaming Vybz Kartel and Mavado who are the respective leaders of the cliques, Bounty Killer is convinced that a public discussion involving the two artistes would be a welcome sign of change. lyrical battle Previously Mavado and Vybz Kartel participated in a similar forum with an aim to assure fans that the feud was only a lyrical one. However, after their lyrical battle at Sting 2008 in Jamworld, St Catherine, the feud has become more intense. Recently, both Bounty Killer and Vybz Kartel have been at each other's throat lyrically. The public is now anticipating a potential clash at this year's Sting. It has also momentarily sidelined the Gully/Gaza saga, but Bounty Killer believes there are too many youths involved in the affair, which sometimes poses a damaging effect. "Nuff yutes under di influence of Gully and Gaza now. Mi a di man whe a tell people say a Gully but if yuh say Gaza we nuh have nuh problem wid yuh. Say your Gully or say your Gaza but a mi run di plaza," he said. "Me need unnuh (media) fi tek Mavado and Kartel and discuss dat. It nuh affi be two a dem di same time, but dem fi do some public forum and mek di people dem si say a nuh nuten serious, 'cause a nuh PNP or JLP again," Bounty Killer said. negative effects He also added that the public is to blame partially for the negative effects and warned, "We now (as artistes) have to mek dem di people know say, when yuh a use dem sumten here, don't mek it seem like a we inside a do it.Cause dem (the public) a use it and mek it look like a Gully and Gaza a tell dem fi do it." He continued, "Gully and Gaza a nuh di problem, is just two words. If people did love dem one another it wouldn't divide dem. Gully or Gaza thing a gwan in Africa but there is no war. Di same ting a gwan a Trinidad and New York but nobody nah war. Suh it's di people who have a lot of difference in dem and them glad fi get a Gully or a Gaza to use it. Like it's Gully or Gaza a do it, but from longtime a suh we stay?" he said, in reference to dancehall clashes. Bounty Killer closed by saying he and fellow Alliance members don't despise Gaza supporters, and was adamant that it's Vybz Kartel and his Portmore Empire who were the ones with a grudge. "A nuff Gaza fans me have. Yuh know how much people deh a Gaza and still follow Bounty, but a Gaza dem say. But it nuh mean dat dem nuh rate Killer. Suh true dem say Gaza me fi hate dem? No. But Kartel nah endorse dat. Kartel a endorse him difference. Right now a Waterford, any man whe say Alliance or Gully dem inna trouble. Di Gaza people dem a dat dem do, yuh never go anywhere and hear say Gully or Alliance man dem wah fight, yuh always hear a Gaza man dem," he said.

CARS HIT CYCLIST TWICE

August 31, 2009
Started By Ares8 Comments
The shocking death of a man in Falmouth over the weekend was like an inescapable scene from the Hollywood movie Final Destination after he was hit not once, but twice by two separate motor vehicles which were of the same make.

Reports reaching THE STAR are that about 7:35 p.m., George Sinclair, 52, of Hague in Trelawny, was riding his bicycle along the Falmouth main road in the vicinity of Rock Bridge when he was hit by a Toyota Camry motor car that was travelling in the opposite direction.

Reports are that the driver of the motor car exited the vehicle and was assisting the injured man out of the road when in the strange twist of events a second Toyota Camry motor car that was heading towards Falmouth sped along and hit Sinclair again.

Sinclair was taken to the Falmouth Hospital where died while being treated.

Attempts to get a further update on the matter were unsuccessful yesterday as the sergeant at the Falmouth Police Station said that the investigation was in its early stages and he had no knowledge of the case's specifics. The investigating officer was out of office. The Falmouth Traffic Department is probing the matter.

In what Walt Disney Co. president and chief executive officer Robert Iger called "a great opportunity at the right time," Disney is buying Marvel Entertainment Inc. in a $4 billion cash-and-stock deal, putting Spider-Man under the same umbrella as Mickey Mouse.

Under the terms of the deal, Marvel shareholders will receive $30 cash and 0.745 shares of Disney stock (NYSE: DIS) for every share of Marvel stock (NYSE: MVL) owned.

At closing, the amount of cash and stock might be adjusted such that the total value of the Disney stock issued is not less than 40 percent of the total merger consideration, based on its trading value at that time.

Both boards of directors have approved the deal, which is slated to close by the end of the year.

On a conference call with investors, Disney said that the deal will be accretive to earnings in two years.

Disney also said that the deal will result in the issuing of 59 million new shares, but Disney would enter a buyback program to repurchase the same amount of shares during the next 12 months, as to not dilute stockholder value.

The deal gives Disney ownership of Marvel's portfolio of more than 5,000 characters, which include such iconic characters such as Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, many of which have been turned into successful movie franchises in recent years.

Bounty Killer - Contributed

Popular dancehall artiste Bounty Killer yesterday dismissed claims made by former protégé Vybz Kartel that he was "outdated", and has launched his own 'lyrical battle' with the deejay.

Bounty Killer, born Rodney Price, was responding to the Vybz Kartel comment earlier this week: "Mi nah clash wid Bounty. Ninja Man a di last outdated artiste me war wid." Killer said he would relish a lyrical battle with the deejay he was once a mentor to.

In recent times, both artistes have been at each others' throats lyrically and the public now anticipates a potential 'clash' at this year's Sting, which is set to take place at Jamworld, St Catherine, in December.

The feud has also momentarily sidelined the 'Gaza/Gully' affair, which is tied to dancehall cliques of Mavado and Vybz Kartel.

Alliance

Since last year's Sting, Vybz Kartel has specifically mentioned Bounty Killer's name in songs, which contain derogatory lines aimed at the Alliance.

But it has just been within the last month that Bounty Killer has responded with Chatta Box and Ungrateful Hellboy, and the most recent, Wata Chune.

Kartel also released a song of his own called Bownty's Killa.

Killer, however, says, "Him (Kartel) nuh know whe him get inna. Yuh cyah say out. A me affi decide when di war done. Kartel a jump up and a sing songs, but true me nuh ansa, him seh me fraid. Me tell dem seh me nuh wah do nuh more a dis (clash) becuz a nuh di best part of me, and we av nuff gud things fi offer. All a mi life a dis me a do, but dem nuh luv nuten gud."

He continued, "You and Mavado a war, suh how you a call my name? Dat mean seh yuh want me inna di war. Anywey, me buk him (Kartel) a 'Sting' dat. Suh me nuh know whe him a talk bout like me a wait fi one event. We a war till Sting come, cause a suh war go."

Killer also blasted the claims in another Kartel song, When Since, in which Vybz Kartel said "... Killer cyah dis me."

"How yuh fi say me cyah dis yuh? Better yuh seh me nah or me nuh wah, cause im a throw words and Killa neva inna dem moods deh. Cah me nah mek Kartel decide wah move me fi mek. Yuh nuh shame say is a old Heineken Startime deejay come tek weh yuh summer?" He said in reference to his performances at Reggae Sumfest and Champions In Action.

"Di one summer inna my life whe me ever see seh like Kartel ago own, me jus tek whe. Dats why me perform suh wicked, cause nuh devil cyah win God," he added.

one responsible

Bounty Killer also made it clear that he regretted being the one responsible for the birth of Vybz Kartel into dancehall music, and if he could, he would reverse that decision, which he made back in 1999.

"Kartel is di worst thing dat happen to dancehall music. It's one thing I wud change in my career, and dat is to nuh buss Kartel. A di worst thing me ever do fi dancehall, bring in Kartel, see God in heaven there. A who fuss come say go '... yuh mada' pon a record?' Which other deejay yuh hear wid dat? Who else come say 'me nuh affi know ... God?'"

He continued, "A him (Kartel) dem say a di lyrical genius and him intelligent? Tell me a tune whe Kartel do better than Book Book Book. Which is more, academic and lyrical and have more influence on kids? Yuh say yuh a di devil, but dis a di real ultimate clash. God and devil a go at it now. He thinks he's too bad. How devil fi a run? Memba a him say him a lodge, my ... dem nuh join lodge, suh me jus well wah clash wid him fi teach him a lesson."

A Jamaican man appeared in court in St Maarten recently accused of raping his 11-year-old goddaughter.

The accused man reportedly surrendered to police in the tiny Dutch colony last week Thursday after he was informed that he was being sought by the police. He is married to a local woman who had custody of the child.

The girl's relatives reported to a St Maarten newspaper that the child had been abused. Those reports indicated that the girl had complained about the Jamaican's sexual advances but no action was taken because there was no evidence to support the claims.

However, just over a week ago, the girl's grandmother caught the suspect in the act of raping the child. In a rage, she attacked him and both were subsequently arrested and later released.

Since his arrest, reports have surfaced that the man has been accused of molesting the child for more than three years.

The Court of Guardianship has placed the child in protective custody pending the outcome of the investigation. She is currently staying with a relative.

St Maarten is home to as many as 6,000 Jamaicans who are employed in most sectors of the island's economy.

Buju's U.S Tour Back On Track

bujubanton01.jpg
Gargamel Music is pleased to confirm that four-time Grammy nominated Reggae artist and icon, Buju Banton will kick off his hotly anticipated Rasta Got Soul US Tour on September 12th in Philadelphia. We are disappointed by the hasty cancellation of a few shows by Live Nation/House of Blues and Goldenvoice/AEG, but fans will be happy to know we have over 30 confirmed shows that are definitely playing and we are working to replace the canceled dates. Now our team is primarily concerned with setting the record straight on the grossly inaccurate portrait of Buju being painted by certain organizations and systematically relayed to the masses and the media.

Buju Banton was all of 15-years-old when he wrote "Boom Bye Bye" in response to a widely publicized man/boy rape case in Jamaica. It was not a call to violence. The song was re-released on a popular dancehall rhythm in 1992 and caused a huge uproar after receiving commercial radio play in the States. Following much public debate back then, prominent gay rights leaders - and Buju decidedly moved on. For the record, it is the only song he ever made on the subject - and he does not perform it today.

Those who have followed Buju Banton's musical journey and have actually listened to his extensive catalog, know of his development into a world-class singer, songwriter and performer who can quietly sell out such prestigious venues as the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York and Brixton Academy in London. He does not advocate violence. There has never been a shred of violence at any of his live shows. In fact, he commonly preaches against violence - against all people.

Buju's consistently positive messages of peace, love and enlightenment have never been lost in the music. His 1995 Grammy-nominated album 'Til Shiloh marked a spiritual and musical transformation that yielded the classic narratives "Untold Stories," "Wanna Be Loved" and "Murderer," which personified the horrific increase in gun crimes in Kingston's inner city. His Grammy-nominated Inna Heights (1997) garnered him numerous comparisons to the late, great Bob Marley.

Long before Hollywood raised its collective consciousness about Darfur, there was Buju Banton wailing about the genocide happening in "Sudan" on 1999's Unchained Spirit. His Friends For Life (2003) and Too Bad (2006) projects were both acknowledged with Grammy nods for Best Reggae Album. Buju's latest Roots Reggae opus, Rasta Got Soul (2009), has already been welcomed with critical acclaim in the US, Europe and Japan.

The artist's love for humanity is not just demonstrated in words but also in deeds. Twelve years ago he responded to the AIDS crisis in Jamaica by launching Operation Willy, an organization focused on raising monies for HIV positive babies and children who lost their parents to the disease. For three years he served as a celebrity spokesperson for Upliftment Jamaica, a US-based non-profit committed to working with underprivileged youth back home.

Yet none of these personal and professional accomplishments matter much to a gay lobby hell bent on destroying the livelihood of a man who has spent an entire career making amends -- his way. Sadly, their 17 year fixation on waging war against one artist has prevented them from turning this initiative into a larger, more fruitful discussion that could perhaps effect real change.

"Mi nah clash wid Bounty" - Vybz Kartel

Since the construction of their new recording studio Austin Kevin Green- CEO of Payday Music, official Alliance producer and engineer alongside the Alliance boss himself Bounty Killer has been putting out some really hard work. The Honeyc**** rhythm which features all the alliance members with the exception of Busy Signal- due to his absence from the island as he was on tour is the first production of his hard work, it also features dancehall artiste Demarco and the new alliance members which also make a debut on the Full black rhythm. Another production of Payday Music following the studio construction is the Full Black rhythm that upcoming artistes like Flawless, Assailant, Iyara, Marlon Binns, Boom Steppa, Nymron has voiced on.

Kevin relays the honeyc**** rhythm was produced for the radio airwaves but the full black rhythm- which has song contents has more of an intense sound- was made for the streets. Since the studio has been opened it has been very progressive doing various projects with Bounty Killer and Mavado, there has been a mix with Bounty Killer, Mavado and Busta Rhymes, we are also about to work on a track with Akon. It has been really busy for Payday Music, we did a Flawless video medley for Promise Me and Live Some More shot at various locations in Kingston and right now we are promoting Honeyc**** locally and internationally as there are upcoming shows in Japan, French Martique, US, England.

There are also singles being produced with Lutan Fyah, Demarco, Bounty Killer, Mavado, Assailant, Flawless and Iyara and a few more surprises.

My advice to everyone in this music business is to go hard or go home, Me say Alliance Payday and Im being paid, whoever and whatever you support make sure at the end of the day you get paid whether Gully, Gaza, Alliance, Israel, Palestine, Afghanistan, Iraq make sure at the end of the day you have money in your pockets.

Payday would like to express gratitude to Sharon Burke Rodney Price and Solid Staff in general for the ongoing support over the years. PayDay Music is looking forward to much more success in the years.

First Jamaican artiste to top Rap Charts Also tops Billboard Reggae Album Charts. Sean Paul might be in Switzerland, but that wont stop his fourth studio album, Imperial Blaze from continuing to blaze fire on the Billboard charts in the US. The album, his first in four years, has debuted at #1 on the Billboard Rap Album charts, toppling the likes of Eminem, Fabolous and Twista to top the charts. Sean Paul is also sitting comfortably atop the Billboard Reggae Album Charts, ahead of a Bob Marley compilation, Ziggy Marleys Family Time, and VP Records Reggae Gold. This is his first time atop the rap album charts, and his second time on the Billboard Rap Album charts overall as his third studio album, The Trinity, peaked at #3 on the rap charts in 2005. It is also the first time a Jamaican artiste is topping that chart.[spoiler]

A man in the US has been arrested for allegedly breaking into a house to have sex with a dog.

Christopher Bagwell, 26, is accused of entering a home in Farmington, West Virginia while the owner was at work.

A friend of the person who owned the house had stopped by to leave off some possessions when she said she caught Bagwell having sex with the owner's dog, a male Australian shepherd, border collie mix.

She said: "His pants were down around his ankles and the dog was making an awful sound."

At the time, she called Bagwell a "sick bastard" and he let go of the dog.

"The dog jumped down off the chair and ran over towards the love seat. At that time Chris started towards her, pulling his pants up," the police report said.

Bagwell has been charged with burglary and animal cruelty.

The Dynamic Duo: Wycliffe "Steely" Johnson (right) with Cleveland "Clevie" Browne

STATEMENT FROM STEELIE BASHMENT

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Wycliffe 'Steely' Johnson. His passing is a tremendous loss to the Dancehall industry, and a tremendous loss to me personally -- Steely is the man who sparked my love of music and inspired me to be a selector.

Talk to anyone who grew up with me, and they'll tell you that I idolized Steely from Silver Hawk Sound. When I struggling to establish myself as a selector in the early days, I adopted the name 'Steelie' with the goal to one day have my own sound and be at the top of the game -- like Steely.

As part of the legendary production team Steely & Clevie, Steely gave us those signature sounds like the Punanny Rhythm, the Street Sweeper Rhythm, Skettel...Nine Night...Sniper...Sleepy Dog...I could go on and on and on. He was part of the genius behind Dancehall classics like Shabba's "Ting-A-Ling," and "Twice My Age;" "Sorry" by Foxy Brown; "Double Trouble" by Beres Hammond;  "Boops" by Supercat; "Murder Dem" by Ninja Man; "Ram Dancehall" by Tiger; "Hot Gyal Today" by Sean Paul & Vegas...and that's not even the half.

I met Steely about 10-12 years ago in Studio 2000. He said he had heard about me; I told him I named myself after him because I respected him and what he did with Silver Hawk--and that was it. It was all of ten seconds and I never saw him again. However,  I will always be greatful that I took that one moment to let him know how much he inspired me.

His contribution to Dancehall music is immeasurable.
His impact on my life is unforgettable.
Music without him is inconceivable.

My sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.

Rest in Peace.

A bus conductor who used his mouth to indecently assault a teenager pleaded guilty in the Spanish Town Resident Magis-trate's Court yesterday.

The 20-year-old St Catherine man said he was guilty but it was the complainant who made the first move.

His lawyer Earle Hamilton said his client did not mean to hurt the complainant, who decided to stay on the bus after all the other passengers disembarked.

The court heard that the conductor committed two counts of indecent assault by biting the girl on her breast and also on her lower body.

The 13-year-old was taken to do medical tests by her mother and the police were called in.

An investigator told the court that the complainant is acquainted with the accused and that is why she trusted him.

The conductor was granted $60,000 bail on condition that he reports to the Point Hill Police Station on Saturdays. He was also told he should not drive or conduct on any public passenger vehicles for the duration of the case. He will be sentenced on October 22.

...J'can star set to rake in US$500,000 for South Korea race

CMC

Wednesday, September 02, 2009

MONTE-CARLO, Monaco (CMC) - Jamaica's phenomenal World and Olympic sprint champion Usain Bolt is set to enjoy a whopping US$500,000 payday for competing in the 100 metres in South Korea later this month.

Bolt... has been labelled the greatest sprinter of all time

Bolt is expected to tackle the shorter sprint on September 25 at the Daegu Pre-Championships Meeting.

Moon Dong-hoo, vice-president of the organising committee for the 2011 Daegu IAAF World Championships in Athletics, said Bolt confirmed that he will race in Daegu and the details are now being worked out for his 100-metre appearance.

In Berlin, Bolt shattered his own world record by 0.11 seconds with a time of 9.58 seconds.

The Daegu organising committee did not disclose his payment, but media reports suggest Bolt is likely to receive US$500,000 for the race.

The Daegu Meeting is expected to attract 200 athletes from 30 nations competing in 16 track and field events.
Meanwhile, Bolt has confirmed that he will also be racing at the IAAF World Athletics Final in Greece this month.

Bolt, who brilliantly won the sprint double - both in world record times - at the IAAF World Championship in Germany last month, is set to run the 200 metres at the September 12-13 World of Athletics Final in Thessaloniki.

Organisers of the IAAF World Athletics Final confirmed Monday that the sprint giant will race in the half-lap sprint on the second day of the final on Sunday, September 13.

Bolt has contested only three 200-metre events so far this year including his Berlin World Championship run last month in an astounding 19.19 seconds, erasing his own world mark of 19.30 he posted in his Olympic victory in Beijing a year earlier.

Bolt last competed in the World Athletics Final in 2006 when he came third in 20.10 seconds in Stuttgart, Germany.

Already being labelled the greatest sprinter of all time, the 23-year-old Bolt is expected to compete in Shanghai after the World Athletics Final before travelling to Daegu.

In the meantime, the projected clash between Bolt and the American Tyson Gay at the Brussels Golden League Meeting on Friday will no longer happen.

Bolt has decided to run the 200 metres and Gay is booked for the 100 metres at the last Golden League meet of the season.

Olympic sprint champion plans autobiography
World tour and £10m sponsorship deals also mooted

Usain Bolt is already the fastest man in the world and now he wants to become one of the richest. The triple Olympic gold medallist's management team are working on a marketing strategy to try to make him a global superstar with the kind of financial pulling power enjoyed by David Beckham and Tiger Woods.

Already several publishing houses are engaged in a bidding war for the 22-year-old Jamaican sprinter's story, which is expected to fetch a six-figure sum. A world tour is planned later this year and there are discussions on sponsorship deals worth more than £10m.

Norman Peart, Bolt's manager and mentor since he was 15, is clear about the earning potential. "Commercially we see no reason why he can't be as successful as Roger Federer, Tiger Woods or David Beckham. He has not only been blessed with an outstanding athletic ability, but also a great character."

Bolt's autobiography is expected to make a welcome change from the recent glut of bland memoirs from sports personalities. The Jamaican's personality is a huge part of his marketability his post-race celebrations and pre-race chicken nugget meals have endeared him to a global audience and the sprinter is promising a revelatory story.

"I feel I'm ready to talk about the things I haven't spoken about before," Bolt said, "how my life has changed since I left my village in Trelawny and my relationship [with girlfriend Mizicann Evans]. Far too often I hear people talking about the negative side of Jamaica the guns, gangs and stuff like that. But the reality is often quite different. I grew up in a relaxed small village with good parents."

Chris Nathaniel of NVA Management who secured seven-figure deals for the autobiographies of the England footballers John Terry and Rio Ferdinand is behind the book deal. He is also in talks with a number of high-profile brands including Virgin, Emirates, Rolex, Nokia, Vodafone and Gucci.

Nathaniel has claimed demand for the world's fastest man is "unbelievable", but with the World Championships little more than three weeks away Bolt's focus will need to remain on athletics. Once the competitive season is over, however, Bolt will embark on a promotional tour taking in three continents Africa, Asia, and Australia giving coaching sessions to youngsters.

Other marketing plans include high-profile parties playing dominoes in New York, Abu Dhabi and London, where Bolt will DJ for an elite guest list celebrities already invited include Bill Clinton, Cristiano Ronaldo, Jay Z and Will Smith.

A Manchester United fan, Bolt expressed envy and dismay this week at Ronaldo's £80m transfer to Real Madrid commenting: "I wish that was me because that's a lot of money." He may not have long to wait before he is raking in his own eye-popping contracts.

The Olympic triple jump silver medallist Phillips Idowu, meanwhile, says he is enjoying a more low-key profile ahead of this weekend's Aviva London grand prix after the expectation of last year, when he was tipped to win gold in Beijing. "A lot of the attention's been taken off me, Simeon [Williamson] is running well Jessica [Ennis] has come back so I can just sit back and get on with what I've been doing for the last nine years of my life. Train hard, jump well."

Liquor-loving teen severely beaten

September 1, 2009
Started By Ares1 Comments

A 19-year-old man in Askinish, Hanover, will probably not be drinking any alcohol anytime soon after he received a life-changing beating by residents in the community on Sunday.

Information reaching THE STAR is that sometime after 10 a.m. on Sunday, the teen, who some describe as a known troublemaker, broke into a local bar and stole five bottles of Guinness, four bottles of Red Label wine and four bottles of Magnum wine.

It is alleged that shortly afterwards, residents got wind of the incident and set upon the youngster who had reportedly drank all the alcoholic beverages. The newspaper was told that the teen received the beating of a lifetime. So severe was the flogging that he reportedly vomited worms in addition to the stolen liquor he had consumed and had to be admitted at the Noel Holmes Hospital in the parish.

One police personnel from the parish confirmed the incident. "He was given a fine beating," the source said. "It would seem that the alcohol acted as worm medicine for him as well because people are saying he vomited worms."

Attempts to ascertain the condition of the admitted teen were unsuccessful. The Lucea police are investigating.
