Patrick Swayze dies at 57

September 14, 2009
Started By GA8 Comments

LOS ANGELES - Patrick Swayze, the hunky actor who danced his way into viewers' hearts with "Dirty Dancing" and then broke them with "Ghost," died Monday after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 57.

"Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months," said a statement released Monday evening by his publicist, Annett Wolf. No other details were given.

Fans of the actor were saddened to learn in March 2008 that Swayze was suffering from a particularly deadly form of cancer.

He had kept working despite the diagnosis, putting together a memoir with his wife and shooting "The Beast," an A&E drama series for which he had already made the pilot. It drew a respectable 1.3 million viewers when the 13 episodes ran in 2009, but A&E said it had reluctantly decided not to renew it for a second season.

Swayze said he opted not to use painkilling drugs while making "The Beast" because they would have taken the edge off his performance. He acknowledged that time might be running out given the grim nature of the disease.

When he first went public with the illness, some reports gave him only weeks to live, but his doctor said his situation was "considerably more optimistic" than that.

'REGGAEFIED' SEND-OFF FOR STEELY

September 14, 2009
Started By MARTIAN8882 Comments

The thanksgiving celebration for the life of Wycliffe 'Steely' Johnson was indicative of how he lived and the many lives he touched. You felt his energy in the music and captured his essence in the speeches made by his peers and family; even the unscripted surprises, generated laughter, reflecting one of the affectionate labels used to describe him - stand up comic.

The programme was printed as a CD pamphlet, and each page was utilised to show different aspects of his life, pictures of his children and mother, and pictures of him with his many musical moments, especially the ones with his musical partner Clevie. The order of the service was placed conveniently, in the middle of the pamphlet, and it well thought out execution, allowed us to capture the many aspects of this legendary man.The Swallowfield Chapel was packed with family members, a well representatives of the music fraternity, members of the 12 Tribes of Israel, friend, fans and well wishers. The praise and worship section was "reggaefied", some of the usual songs were sung on complementary dancehall rhythms, which added a nice touch.

Each item that was sung or spoken made one learn more about Steely. If a stranger was sitting in the congregation, they would have left knowing so much more of this reggae icon.

There were remembrances and songs shared both by family members and his musical family. The eulogy was read by lifelong friend and the other half of the musical duo Cleveland 'Clevie' Browne, who was greeted with a standing ovation by the room. Another poignant moment was the laying of the red roses by some of reggae's best producers, on Steely's coffin. Each was called out individually, and given a red rose which they placed on the coffin. This brought tears to some eyes, as the faces of the men showed everything. Their respect for this moment was seen in their faces, unmasked, as each have worked somewhere in the past, and on some of their biggest hits with this genius.

In the room, the camaraderie and love amongst people in the industry was palpable. It was obvious that people knew each other for years, and as Rev Al Miller alluded to, the fact that death was a moment for contemplation. It appeared as if Steely's death brought this to many sitting in the pews.

From all indications he will be missed, not only for his groundbreaking shift of a whole genre of Jamaican music, but also his humour, enthusiasm, and his flaws.

Controversial MC Eminem certainly caused an uproar after the release of a Maria Carey diss track late last week. But according to the Detroit rapper, the latest diss track floating around the web is not from him.

The track entitled, Die Already, targets Soulja Boy explicitly.

"The beats are the reason that's keeping your song on replay, Iced T told you, don't let me say it the Me way, I'm not a bad person you just *u*k like a BJ," the Em sound alike fires at Soulja Boy.

The track then continues with a lyrical assault that had many fans wondering if this was in fact another Em release.

Those fans are in for disappointment as Eminem says that it was not him, however, admits the voice sounded alot like him.

"Wow whoever made "Die Already" really does sound like me. But it ain't." Em said in a statement released via his official twitter page.

You can check out the track below.

Reggae singer and a member of LUST singing group Trilla U got baptized six days after his wife was shot and injured and his daughter killed.

He was quoted in Chat! as saying This world has blinded us to the realities of life and we are not really seeing what we need to see.

The singer said when he saw his wife lying there, he understood the full nature of what took place. He said God became clear to him when his wife who was practically dead for 16 hours came out of it.

Although he has been baptized the singer will still continue singing with LUST as he says they have not been doing any nasty songsthey will however, be adding some gospel songs to the mix.

I want to tell others to always look to Godno matter what. In the midst of tragedy look to him because He will help you through, were his encouraging words in the weekend tabloid.

5 STAR GENERAL TAKES OVER!!!!!!!

The General Takes Over

Bounty Killer Locks DownBrooklyn on Labor Day

BountyKiller-Caribbean-City.jpgHundreds of revelers, some still dressed in their West Indian-American Carnival gear, crammed into the Caribbean City Night Club on Labor Day to hail the 'Five Star General' on his long-awaited return to the Big Apple's Caribbean core--Brooklyn. After a stellar performance at Manhattan's famous Roseland Ballroom, iconic Dancehall deejay (MC) Bounty Killer stormed into Brooklyn dressed in his signature 'full suit of black' and armed with an arsenal of tunes from his 17-year catalogue of hit singles. Delivering one of his best performances to date, the 'Warlord' officially locked down the borough, bringing the Labor Day weekend festivities to a powerful close.

Only blocks away from the West Indian-American parade route, carnival masqueraders began lining up outside of Caribbean City as early as 8pm. Event promoter, Brooklyn's signature selector (DJ) Steelie Bashment alongside Troopa Traloopa, Tek-9 Movements, Johnny Killer, Suga Slick, Stereo Choice, Earth Ruler's Lee Major, Spin City, and Mr. Googles, and event hosts Nikki Z of Irie Jam Radio and Waah Gwan Radio's Steve Austin kept the crowd going for well over five hours until the 'Warlord' arrived at 2:30am. Dancehall deejay Spragga Benz and Reggae legend Sugar Minott were among the throngs of fans, entertainers, local industry executives, and media rammed into venue.

Bounty Killer, who arrived with fellow entertainers Etana, Spice, and Angel Doolas, was in no mood to dawdle or delay, jumping into performance mode almost immediately after hitting the club. After brief but well received performances from Etana and Spice, the ever 'cross, angry, and miserable' Killer touched off into a nearly hour-long performance, going from 'bad man' classics like "Lodge," "Coppershot," and "Can't Believe My Eyes" to socially conscious tunes like "Look" and "Poor People Fed Up," and the uncharacteristic lover's anthem "It's Ok." He finished his set with his more recent material, including the much talked about singles "Just Mek a Duppy" and "Chattabox."

"This is by far one of the best performances that I have seen Killer give," stated a patron who went by the name Jay, adding that the performance was 'maaaadd.'

"Bounty Killer is an icon," states Steelie Bashment. "This event was really a last minute thing, we only had three days to promote, and in three days the thing just 'sell off.' If I had a whole month, I might have had to keep it at the [Madison Square] Garden," he joked.
I've seen reviews online that say that this is the grandmasters of all technics.

Queen Ifrica - file

Queen Ifrica's song Mek Wi Grow might not have been done as a counteraction to Vybz Kartel's Virginity, but his song is one that she certainly does not like.

"Mi hear Kartel with a song name Virginity weh mi nuh too like it. The fact that him a talk bout a likkle girl weh him tek her virginity," Queen Ifrica told THE STAR.

"Him a talk bout two drop a *lo** pon her frock and madda ago beat her fi dat. Mi nuh hear no big woman weh a mek dem talk deh. Mi nuh too waan talk bout it (Kartel's song), fi promote it neither."

In Mek Wi Grow, Queen Ifrica sings, "No bwoy caan draw mi round no corner/ fi show mi no iguana/ low mi mek mi grow...Pinch leave an inch and roll weh yuhself...Yuh caan tek my virginity/ cause that a God precious gift to me/ If it makes you feel good to sleep wid children in yuh rampin' shop well don't bother worry when di lighten clap/ leave the pickney dem alone go look yuh age nuh man/ yuh better think twice before yuh tek another one."

community work

She said she got inspiration for the song based on what she sees generally and from the community work she does, specifically. In addition, she said she is a woman and a mother, so she does not feel good about virginity.

"Yuh have some big neck man weh a prey pon dem (young girls). No man nuffi tell yuh when fi tek your virginity. Me do whole heap a community work and the women's centre dem full," said Queen Ifrica, who recently returned from Paris, France, where she did a music video with techno producer and artiste Bob Sinclair.

She said she is currently very busy doing many shows in the Caribbean and the United States.

As for her album, Montego Bay, she said: "It a go mad. It a go hard. It a creep up inna all the places weh mi need it fi deh."

gay rights groups have reportedly succeeded in canceling yet another Buju Banton concert - an October 3 date that was to have happened at the Lifestyles Community Pavillion in Columbus, Ohio. The gay rights groups in that city apparently pressured the venues marketing director, and her employer - PromoWest Productions, stating among other things that the targeted audience for Buju Bantons message and the proximity to the Ohio State University (OSU) campus neighborhood would create a tangible threat to the safety and well-being of individuals.

According to Columbus Caribbean (a portal for Caribbean people in Columbus, Ohio) however, the Lifestyles Community Pavillion has indeed pulled the plug on the show, but the shows promoter is reportedly looking to have it staged at another venue, a back up option.

Mavado responds to Foot Hype Comments - Part one of II

Mavado Says It Happens Again, Get Sell-Out By Fake Friends

mavado-photos.jpg

Dancehall artiste Mavado has finally decided to come forth to let the public know his side of the story about the ongoing feud between himself and Foota Hype.

During an exclusive interview with Mavado at Oak Land's apartment on Constant Spring Road, he explains to OutAroad.com that he had nothing to do with the incident that took place at Foota Hype mother's house in Cassava Piece.

"First mi get a call seh mi friend dem shoot up Foota mother's house and mi seh to miself why dem foolishness affi happen after mi deh a farin a hurry fi come back home in time fi keep the back to school treat for the kids dem in the community before school open," said Mavado. He then added "Even Foota Hype's mother was there along with other members of his family and mi mek sure dem get more things than everyone else does."

Mavado continues to question himself as to why Foota's mother would want to say such things about him and whenever he's in the community and she's in need of assistance he would be the one to help.

"Anyways mi send one of di youths dem fi guh si if anything really guh suh because all now mi can believe dat Foota's mother really have the time fi look through her window while man a shoot up har house. Which person yuh know whe hear gunshot a fire and nuh run fi dem life but yet Foota's mother seh shi look through har window and si a who a fire di shot dem. Next thing when the police went down there not one bullet piercing could be found on the house only the gate had three gunshot holes in it."

"Why Foota Hype don't tell people seh him move out a Cassava Piece fi how long and never carry him mother with him. When mi left Cassava mi moved mi entire family. But Foota wants to live a lifestyle that he cannot afford."

Why mi woulda guh send man fi duh bad things to his mother when shi deh pon di Gully Side everyday and why Foota claiming that mi waan fi kill him when him deh a dance every night a play. Which man yuh know in fear of his life and deh a road every night a select pon sound."

Mavado believes that Foota reasons for spreading these malicious allegations about him are that they are no longer friends.

"Foota Hype aim is to mash up mi career but it will tek more than little Foota Hype to mash up mi career suh mi nuh pay him no mind - after mi nuh fool fi mek Foota draw mi out.

Foota Getting Mad?

"A Monday whe gone mi call Foota and ask him why yuh a duh dem things yah - ma reason for calling him was because mi si seh things a get out a hand - sometimes mi wonder if a mad di man a get mad. Anyways mi seh to him wi need fi link up tomorrow and talk about our present situation him seh okaylater that same night Flexxx ping mi pon mi phone between 2 and 3 am saying mi lose off a Foota because look how wi a plan seh tomorrow wi aguh build back di friendship and di man deh a Up-town Mondays a seh him nuh left him gun and all kind of things."

Mavado also stated that before his Range got shot-up -- someone sent him a text a while back confessing that Foota Hype had ordered him to destroy his Range Rover.

"One day mi get a text from a man saying that Foota paid him money fi guh up a mi yard fi gas di Range and light it. Mi show Bounty, and couple friends di text and mi decided not to report it because mi know dat would a send him back to jail. Now mi deh a mi yard and di man dem decided fi shot-up mi Range, mi have two other cars there but a di Range dem shot-upbut that nuh worry mi because a vanity and it can be replaced.

Look at this Kartel sing songs saying bad things about my mother and mi never sing back any song dissing his mother because from mi a youth mi mother always seh have respect for di eldersFoota never seh anything bad about my mother yet -- suh why mi aguh send man fi shoot up his mother's gate. Suh if Foota and his mother know a who shoot up di place why dem nuh guh report it and then come point out which of my friends dem do it but a guess he won't do so because it was his friends dem who was engaged in gun battle down the road. If someone had directly point a gun on his mother's gate then the shot would have went through di gate and hit the house but nothing more than couple stray bullets came from down the road and hit her gate.

Gangsta baller

Munga Honoureble

Munga is not only THE STAR deejay, but if he is as good as he boasts, he may also be a star baller.

Football, Munga says is one of his favourite pastimes, with midfield, right field or forward being his positions of choice. The artiste says he tries to 'buss a sweat' at least once per week or anytime he gets the chance. Munga is so serious about the game, he carries a football with him almost every time he leaves the island. Any lawn he sees, "we jus run a 15-minute sweat". Like all true athletes, Munga can boast of his injuries. "Me bruk toe and sprain ankle. Right now me right wrist partially sprain like 7-10 years. Dem say me too fancy. I did a pile an de bredda kick me dung say im nah tek no pile."

Known as 'Choppy boo' because of his fancy plays, he says these positions are fitting to his petite size. "From me likkle, a nuh defence type a body, me like score. A me name Choppy, can cut tru de team, mek a bad pass an score a goal," he said.

But Munga did not pursue this love in high school. Instead, he was on the track team running the 200m. "But a neva really dat me did waan do. I wanted to be an artiste. I neva go training, jus go hang out pon de bench. Me an de coach always a war. Im a say 'you can do it but you nah pay attention'," Munga said, laughing.

He says he never seriously pursued football because his friends were already on the team and he was comfortable just being the deejay.

But while he loves the game, he says it is fitness that is important to him. Along with football, "I do 30 push-ups and 40 sit-ups almost everyday, literally. If me miss a morning or two me mek sure catch up." He explained that these are things he can do everyday, even if time is limited.

"Sweating is something very good. Me waan feel how 70 feel in the same vibrant way. Me not even a push it, 70, and that depends on how I keep it right now. Me waan live long," he said. To ensure this, he tries to keep in good health.

BOYS USED AS SEX SLAVES

The police on Sunday arrested a man that they say was using two boys that he took into his care as sex slaves.

The Spanish Town police say that at about 11:30 p.m. members of the Point Hill police took the two 14-year-old boys to their station after they received information from concerned residents of the teens' sexual exploitation. The accused man who is in his 40s, had taken them into his house with the intention of caring for them and sending them to school.

For several months the boys were not sent to school and were used to do vending and other menial labour. It is further claimed that they were subjected to sexually exploitation whenever the accused felt the need to do so.

The police say that they are concerned about the high level of sexual exploitation that is now taking place. They say that just a week ago they also took a woman in Linstead, St. Catherine, into custody after she was held with two 15-year-old girls in a compromising position.

Family lives on $1,000 weekly

For many of us, $1,000 can easily be spent in a few hours. But for 65-year-old Maritha Powell, this amount must last for an entire week and must feed four persons and send her granddaughter to school.

Powell, who suffers from asthma and bronchitis, and whose vision has been blurred by a cataract and glaucoma, lives in Robins Hall, Manchester, with her daughter and two grandchildren. Her daughter, Minnette, does not work, and Powell survives only on $1,000 that her other daughter, Yvonne, provides every week. The family has been doing this since last February when Maritha's husband, who farmed to support the family, died.

"Is ongle God alone," Powell said, "Di $1,000 share fi four people and mi mostly put dung $500 fi sen di likkle girl go school." Though this takes great sacrifice, she believes in her nine-year-old granddaughter's ability to excel in school, and thinks it is worth a few hunger pangs. "She have good brain and mi want help out. Sometime mi hungry fi di whole day, but mi jus save up fi har and stay hungry."

Minette attested to her mother's unselfish nature, telling THE STAR, "A so she stay from wi likkle. She wi cook all four dumpling and gi each a wi one and den she lef fi har own pan di firecoal fi keep warm and share it up fi all a wi inna di morning. She nuh eat fi har own. Any likkle money she have, she sen wi go school ... jus press wi uniform good an sen wi go school."

As far as stretching the paltry $500 that is left, Powell does her best. "Mostly, wi jus buy some saltfish and two head a cabbage and some tomato. Sometime mi haffi walk inna people grung and pick grung callaloo, but mi can't really do dat again, cause dem start spray di grung."

And while chicken graces many tables everyday, this family only enjoys this 'luxury' in the holidays. "Sometime mi eat di so-so food. Mi jus cook di yam and eat it with salt or mi jus eat di so-so rice. Mi might get two han a banana whe mi jus cook an eat wid di same rice. A mussi ongle inna holiday time mi daughter might buy one chicken. Dung to wha day ya mi a tell mi daughter seh mi feel weak, like mi woulda drink likkle soup."

She lamented that neighbours back in old days were much kinder than they are now. "First time neighbours tek one anadda like sister and brother, but now, once you poor, dem trample you. Mi have di cataract and glaucoma, so mi jus barely a glimpse. Mi scramble roun di yard, but mi can barely do nuttin."

While some would get discouraged and wallow in self-pity, Powell's faith in God has allowed her to get through each day. "Mi jus trust God, caw mi know dat im will provide. Mi believe and mi know dat dere is a God."

Though she can barely move around, she told THE STAR, "Mi woulda raise a likkle pig or so or just get any help fi build like a fowl coop fi raise couple fowl. Mi would a just like any help wi can get."

Anyone willing to help Mrs. Powell, may contact her at 419-1393.

Sunday school teacher to face death in child's killing

  • Story Highlights
  • Melissa Huckaby indicted in August in death of Sandra Cantu
  • Huckaby pleads not guilty as prosecutors announce they want death penalty
  • Sandra's body was found April 6, stuffed into a suitcase and submerged in a pond
  • Huckaby, 28, also is charged with attempting to poison two people

(CNN) -- Prosecutors will seek the death penalty against a former California Sunday school teacher accused of killing an 8-year-old girl earlier this year.

Melissa Huckaby, 28, was indicted last month in the death of Sandra Cantu, a playmate of Huckaby's daughter. Huckaby lived in the same mobile home park as Cantu and her family in Tracy, California.

Sandra's body was found April 6, stuffed into a suitcase and submerged in a pond at a dairy farm. She was last seen alive March 27 in the mobile home park.

Huckaby is charged with kidnapping and murdering Sandra, according to the indictment, along with lewd and lascivious acts on a child under 14 and rape by instrument. She pleaded not guilty in June, but entered another not guilty plea on Thursday at a hearing, minutes of which were provided to CNN by a court spokeswoman.

Prosecutors said at the hearing Thursday they plan to seek the death penalty.

Huckaby is the granddaughter of Clifford Lane Lawless, pastor of Clover Road Baptist Church near the mobile home park, and she taught Sunday school at the church, police said.

The church was searched as part of the investigation into Sandra's disappearance and death.

Before her arrest, Huckaby acknowledged to a newspaper reporter that she owned the suitcase that contained Sandra's body, but said it had been stolen.

In addition to the charges in Sandra's death, Huckaby is charged with attempting to poison two people, including a 7-year-old girl. A complaint alleges she "did willfully and unlawfully mingle a harmful substance with food or drink" with the intent to harm the child.

The complaint identifies the child only as "Jane M. Doe." Huckaby is also charged with one count of child abuse endangerment regarding the girl, who the complaint says was in her "care and custody." The other alleged poisoning victim was identified as Daniel Plowman, but no other information was provided.

A gag order has been imposed on parties in the case. Superior Court Judge Linda L. Lofthus has also sealed documents in the case, including the autopsy and toxicology reports and documents relating to a defense motion to exhume Sandra's body.

Huckaby remains jailed without bail. A hearing was set for September 25.

jada.png MTV reports: Jadakiss says he has nothing to do with activities that led to two people being arrested for drug possession in an apartment leased under his name on Saturday. Yonkers police raided an apartment leased to the MC and found seven pounds of marijuana, five grams of heroin and about $42,000 in cash, along with "other items," according to a police press release. They were led to a building at 1 Van Der Donk Street after housing-unit officers stopped a suspicious vehicle out front on Friday. According to the report, an investigation "revealed the presence of marijuana inside the vehicle." The driver was arrested and a passenger was taken in after a short foot pursuit. On Wednesday (August 26), Jadakiss told MTV News that he was not present at the time and has not visited the home for months. "What happened on Saturday was an unfortunate situation, but one in which I have no involvement in," 'Kiss told MTV News exclusively Wednesday afternoon. Alberto Lajara, 25, was taken into custody for criminal possession of marijuana in the fifth degree and disorderly conduct, according to the report. Yonkers police say the investigation is ongoing. Digicel GOING 4G

Mobile phone operator, Digicel Jamaica has built itself a new command centre in Caymanas, St Catherine, that will become the base of its venture into a new line of business - data security and storage for corporate clients, at least three of whom are already signed up from Jamaica.

The data centre, developed at a cost of $500 million, will officially open for business in November.

The facility will also house Digicel's own technical team - the centre will employ 10 persons - who will largely operate from the ground floor of the three-storey building.

Digicel CEO Mark Linehan is promising a virtual data fortress for company information parked on the new servers for safekeeping.

Good fit

The new operation, while a departure from its core mobile business, would be a good fit with Digicel's operation, Linehan says.

"The more we engage our customers , the more we learn of their needs," he said Wednesday during a tour by the Financial Gleaner of the new plant.

"This is why we invested half a billion dollars in such a project, because companies have been expressing their concern about the continuity of their operation if hit by hurricane or any other disaster."

Digicel has some two million subscribers on its client list, and while the company's operation is now centred on cellular service, it will next week announce the rollout of its more advanced 4G network, offering mobile broadband.

The Irish-owned outfit has also partnered with Jamaican investors on a wireless subscriber television service to be called DigiTV, though little has been said about the latter project since its unveiling by press release nine months ago. There are now questions surrounding DigiTV's viability.

Digicel will itself take up 4,000 square feet of space at the Caymanas facility.

It will be run by John Clear, Digicel's head of information and communication technology, who will also be in charge of keeping contract companies' backed-up data secure.

Clear would not be pressed into quoting a rate for the service, saying cost was determined by space, power and connectivity required per individual contract.

Already signed up are Jamaica Money Market Brokers, Insurance Company of the West Indies and Northern Caribbean University. Digicel also said two other regional outfits are on board, saying one is a managed services provider and the other a major financial services institution, but did not name them.

"These companies were looking for a solution within the country that they can be sure that the data that they have collected over the years is safe, or has a redundancy or a system built that if their system goes down, they can bounce back in the quickest time possible by accessing back-up data stored in a facility like this," said Linehan, referring the broader market it anticipates will buy its new service.

Built to withstand disasters

The data centre is a three-storey bunker-style building, constructed to withstand natural disasters.

Its infrastructure features two fibre networks - JPS and Flow - connectivity from Digicel's own network as well as Flow's, and two 1400 KVA back-up generators to ensure the system is never forced offline by power cuts.

Digicel's team is already in place at ground level, while the first floor of some 4,000 square feet is being fully fitted out for corporate customers.

Clear said the servers rest on a raised floor made of removable square tiles for uniform air distribution and to provide space for power cabling.

The flooring provides a plenum - that is, a sort of chamber to hold air or gas at positive pressure - for air to circulate below the floor as part of the air-conditioning system, he said.

The servers are mounted in rack cabinets and placed in single rows that form several corridors. The mainframe computers and storage devices big as the racks themselves are placed alongside them.

With the sensitive information involved, physical access to the site is restricted to selected personnel. There were areas that even the CEO and ICT bosses could not access unless they were buzzed in by a watcher, while armed security guards stood at each point of entry.

Bolt wear selling like crazy

August 25, 2009
Started By TresZFreSh4 Comments
Usain Bolt may have stopped running for the past few days, but his latest performances are having significant impact on the local economy, especially for one company that manufactures leisure wear. Sun Island has been reporting incredibly high volumes of sales of the Usain Bolt line of leisure wear, including T-shirts, polo shirts, caps and yoga pants since the world's fastest man set new records in Berlin. Things have been flying off the shelves "incredibly fast", said Amy White, manager of product development and design at Sun Island. "We've sold out our stock twice. As we produce, they're gone." Yesterday, at the company's retail outlet along Molynes Road in St Andrew, scores of customers - young and old - were observed buying armfuls of Usain Bolt T-shirts, caps, yoga pants, among other types of leisure wear. signature The company had entered into an agreement with Bolt to produce a line of leisure wear bearing the image and signature of the sprinting phenomenon following his exploits at the Olympics in Beijing, China, last year when he won gold medals and set world records in the 100 metres, 200 metres and the 4x100 metres relays. White revealed that as soon as Bolt set the new world record of 9.58 seconds in the 100 metres last week Sunday afternoon, they set about creating designs and started producing shirts and other types of clothing. She said they even worked through the weekend, which is unusual for them. And as soon as they were done, local retailers and "people off the street" snapped them up. Bolt, she said, was having a huge impact on the company's bottom line because otherwise, sales had been slow, largely due to the state of the economy. The Bolt factor also extends to other businesses as well. White said all the raw material that is used to manufacture the Bolt line of product is made locally, so his success was helping keep people in their jobs. With that in mind, she hoped she would not see an end to the spike in sales anytime soon. However, realistically, she believed the current sales boost would last between two and four more weeks, by which time new designs for the Bolt line would be ready for sale. successful The Bolt line, she said, had generally been successful, as there had been a steady flow of sales since its creation last year. The current spike, White said, was similar to what the company experienced following the 2008 Olympic Games. Bolt has had a similar effect on products manufactured by his main sponsor, Puma, which reported that all the products that were taken to Berlin for the 12th IAAF World Athletics Championships sold out before the championships ended on Sunday. Market research has also shown that since Bolt's exploits in Beijing in 2008, his media market value has been estimated at more than 230 million, or more than US$320 million. The media market value is tantamount to the amount of money Bolt's main sponsors, Puma, would have to spend to get the amount of exposure equal to what Bolt has given them in the market place.[spoiler]

Foota Hype Held By Constant Spring Police Dancehall.Mobi special update - sound system selector Foota Hype (real name - Oneil Thomas), who is currently embroiled in a feud / war of words with his former friend Mavado, was reportedly held for questioning by the Constant Spring police earlier this evening with regard to an assault incident that took place in the Cassava Piece community recently. A Cassava Piece resident is reportedly alleging that Foota Hype was among a group of men, at least one of whom was said to be a policeman, that stopped him then searched and beat him. Ironically, Foota Hype was apparently at the police station earlier this evening trying to get assistance to have his mother moved out of the community, when the resident turned up to make a report about the incident. He reportedly pointed out Foota Hype as one of his assailants, and the selector was arrested. Dancehall.Mobi contacted the Constant Spring police station just after 9 p.m. tonight, and a policewoman on duty confirmed that Foota Hype had been arrested and was being held in custody there, but had not been charged with anything as yet. She was unable to confirm the reason(s) for his arrest, but said he would remain in custody at a minimum overnight. http://www.dancehall.mobi/2009/09/09/foota-hype-held-by-constant-spring-police/

'Tread carefully' - Law professor warns that 'Dudus' case has consequences

Published: Thursday | September 3, 2009

United States law-enforcement authorities are keeping a close watch on Jamaica as local justice officials react to a request for the extradition of reputed Tivoli Gardens strongman Christopher 'Dudus' Coke.

Other than a confirmation that the request for an extradition has been received, there has been no word from local authorities, including justice minister Dorothy Lightbourne, who is believed to have the request on her desk.

However, attorney-at-law and University of Miami professor, David Rowe, is cautioning the Bruce Golding administration to tread carefully as it addresses the request.

"There is a committee in the US Department of Justice that monitors these proceedings and watches for instances of obstruction of justice," Rowe told The Gleaner yesterday.

Rowe said that the US obstruction-of-justice statute had extra-territorial impact and could be used against any individual in Jamaica believed to be attempting to interfere in a judicial proceeding.

According to Rowe, the indictment against Coke could lead to other probes against individuals in Jamaica who might have been involved in criminal activity.

"I expect that Jamaica could soon be asked to extradite other high-profile figures, particularly in relation to a wharf, which is mentioned in the indictment," Rowe said.

"I believe the Grand Jury is enquiring into the wharf and the operation of Tivoli Gardens as a garrison, particularly in the post-2007 period."

Illegal importing

In the nine-page indictment, US authorities allege that Coke provided guns to criminals after importing the weapons illegally through a wharf located adjacent to Tivoli Gardens.

The indictment describes the west Kingston community as "a barricaded neighbourhood guarded by a group of gunmen".

It further claims that from at least in or about 1994, members of Coke's organisation have been involved in drug trafficking in the New York area, Kingston, Jamaica and elsewhere.

In addition, the indictment lists dates on which Coke and his co-conspirators allegedly discussed the movement or sale of illegal drugs and firearms.

The US authorities also make it clear in the indictment that they would be going after Coke's assets if he is convicted.

However, the attorney representing Coke is downplaying the significance of the allegations contained in the indictment.

"We are not worried about it," Tom Tavares-Finson told The Gleaner on Tuesday, as details of the indictment were made public.

According to Tavares-Finson, Coke "has been his usual self - quiet and contemplative" - since the US Attorney, Southern District of New York, sent papers to Jamaica asking that he be sent to the US to stand trial.

"The press release, which was issued by the United States Attorney, Southern District of New York, at a time when it is understood that the Government of Jamaica is considering an extradition request, is clearly meant to prejudice the proceedings," Tavares-Finson said.

"His designation as a drug kingpin is obviously done with the same intention in mind. Show me the evidence. An indictment can be drafted by anyone. I need to see what the evidence is."

Teen shot dead in an attempted robbery

A 16-year-old youth who attempted to rob a taxi operator was fatally shot by the police at the intersection of Sutton Street and Church Street, downtown Kingston, Wednesday night.

Dead is Andre Spence of lower Text Lane, Kingston.

The CCN is reporting that about 11:40 p.m., the taxi operator picked up four males, including the teenager, on Church Street. On reaching the intersection of Sutton Street, they brandished firearms and attempted to rob him. A struggle developed and the motor vehicle crashed into a wall. Three of the would-be robbers ran from the vehicle. Members of a police team on patrol in the area saw Spence, armed with a gun, coming from the car. He pointed the weapon at the officers and was shot. A home-made firearm containing one 12-gauge cartridge was seized. The teen was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver escaped injury.

The Bureau of Special Investigations has launched a probe in the matter.

An internal war is threatening to destroy The Alliance from within as the mushrooming conflict between Oneil Foota Hype Thomas and David Mavado Brooks has taken a decidedly sharp turn towards gun violence as residences of both entertainment personalities were sprayed by bullets over the last three days.

Last week Saturday, Foota Hype said he was on his phone talking to his mother, Doreen, who resides in Cassava Piece, St. Andrew, when gunshots rang out in the background. His mother screamed, his *la*hd ran cold and his heart triphammered against his chest as the sound of each gunshot reverberated through the phone.

Me and her did a reason when it happen, pure gunshot. Mi lose 10 pound same time, mi shoes full a water, mi head swell up, mi tun eediat and mi drive go round de. Mi mother a bawl, mi just happy say she never got shot, mi mother house shot up and she no dead, mi just haffi thank God, he said.

The police said that six rounds were discharged on his mothers gate.

Man pop off gun at her gate already and dem turn gun over the yard, Foota Hype said.

Foota Hype said he knew who perpetrated the act, and that person is aligned to certain factions within the community.

We know who do it and who that person is affiliated to. 50 persons say him no know bout it and 50 persons say he knows about it, but if that is the case, why not cut all ties to the people who give you a bad name.

REPORTER: But why intimidate your mother?

I guess because I always have a licensed firearm holder around me or somebody is always around me, so they intimidate her to hurt me.

REPORTER: Are you going to move?

The Gully ah mine. I was born on the block. Me strengthen him, and mek him into a full grown giant. Now him want to crush who mek him ah eat. We ah go see if God ah allow that to happen.

The stakes have been raised considerably especially in light of police reports that Mavados apartment uptown was shot up on Monday night, and his prized Range Rover ventilated by bullets.

Somebody call me from foreign and tell me that it happened. Last night, I went to Uptown Mondayz and mi wrath. Mi talk mi mind, because my defence is music, I am not a gunman, I cant afford to buy guns and bullets. Him call himself the Gully Gaad, but mi ah leave everything to God. If me live fi live, mi ah go live. My life is at stake.

At 43 years old, she is still hands down one of the sexiest females on earth. Now she is adding meaning to the term MILF, for a second time.

Rumors are buzzing that Halle Berry is about 3 months pregnant, with fiance Gabriel Aubry. Many internet sources are claiming they received reports from somebody close to Halle saying...

Halle is overjoyed. The first time, she struggled so much to get pregnant and eventually conceived through in vitro fertilization. This time, the baby was conceived through artificial insemination.

She's just ecstatic to be pregnant again. She wasn't sure if she'd have another baby, so she's very happy.

So homeboy realizes the entire buzz from the video, and decides to hop on it and get his face out there. He clarifies a few things and also decides to promote his music too.

T-Pain & Fabolous Apologize

September 11, 2009

1308276006_small.jpgI think Jigga set an example here. After Jay-z took the mature road and decided to let the whole T-Pain dissing him slide, T-Pain came out and apologized. Fabolous even got in on some of the action and apparently him and Pain had a conversation and ended up making up too.

Here is what they both said...

Quote:
T-Pain

I will say, the interview Jay did yesterday morning, it made me feel so much better...

I really look up to dude, I could have been one of these stupid artists and go at him lyrically...

Im definitely cool with Jay. I bugged out that day. It was people in the crowd saying Jay-Z destroyed you. He did clear up yesterday and I feel a lot better. Neither him or I have the time to be going through this beef crap man.

Me and Fab talked today, he apologized, he said it was stupid on his part, somebody made a fake T-Pain page today saying nothing but F Jay-Z and F Fab and then Fab went in on me.

Quote:
Fabolous
He texted me, said to call him. At first, I just apologized really because I kinda jumped out the window a little bit and didn't even check in to it before I knew what I was doing. I apologized for that. Then he was just explaining the whole thing with Jay, how he felt Jay was coming at him a little bit ... but Jay just didn't like the whole genre of music jumping on auto-tune....

I had to backdown because I really provoked it, but still, I got some false information...This is how stuff starts in the industry.

aed9ppw7sci0p9wa.jpgThis day and age the internet is becoming a great tool for not only networking, but also romance.

If you ever watched the hit TV show Smart Guyor her recent appearance in Dance Flick, then you will recognize Essence Atkins.

Essence Atkins is now engaged to a man she met on Match.com. Now why it took her to get on a dating website before anyone grabbed a hold of her, God only knows, but it worked.

She apparently joined the site because you dont have to put a picture up. Lucky guy, Jaime Mendez got a message FROM HER on Valentines because the site apparently said they were 97% compatible.

Fast forward a year into the future, their wedding is set for Sept 26, 2009.

No pic no reply? .... Who is thinking twice about that now?

Mavado Calls Foota The Devil

findImg.php?pic_size=200&table_name=news_img_tab&table_field=img_id&img_id=2670
Following the double shooting incidents in Armour Heights, Upper St. Andrew and Cassava Piece that has left popular sound system selector Foota Hype'smother Doreen fearing for her life andMavado's sport utility Range Rover without a rear windscreen after it was sprayed with bullets, the Alliance singjay has finally broken his silence.

Mavado whose real name is David Brooks said he can't say the devious act was carried out by his former friend Foota Hype as no one saw him so it would be unfair to state otherwise. However Mavado says the utterances he makes in the public arena does leaves a lot to the imagination.

The Warlord's protégé continued citing that it was Foota's recent actions that cause him to start distancing himself from the selector calling Foota a Devil filled with bad mind ways hence the reason he is trying to bring him down with all this malicious tirade in the media.

According to Mavado; Foota doesn't make reference to the fact that it was he that introduced him to Bounty Killer and it was from there that he started to receive recognition as a sound system selector. Yet he only speaks about gas pedaling my career (Foota's statements were made in an exclusive interview with 876radio.com)

However Foota Hype whose real name is O'Neil Thomas has fired back stating that though Mavado sings about being 'Blessed' and 'Money Don't Change We' he is the farthest thing from a Saint and people should be weary because his music is realer than him.

ISTANBUL (Reuters) A Turkish woman accused of cutting off her lover's penis must wait 18 months for a verdict and sentencing while a court determines whether his re-attached penis still functions, a court source said Thursday.

The criminal court in the Black Sea town of Trabzon will wait for a medical report assessing whether the 28-year-old victim has regained full use of his organ or if he is permanently disabled, an official involved in the trial said.

"To determine which crime was committed, we first need the report," the source said. "We'll continue holding hearings in the trial from time to time until we receive the report."

The 39-year-old defendant faces between one and three years in prison if her former lover recovers, Haber Turk newspaper said. She will be jailed for at least 8 years if he does not.

The woman told the court he had broken his promise to marry her and forced her into prostitution and beat her.

Surgeons worked for 11 hours to re-attach the penis in an operation which they described as successful, and said full sexual function should return within six months, Hurriyet said.

The defendant, who has not been jailed during the trial, told the court she cut off her former lover's penis and threw it onto the roof of a neighboring building while he was drunk, the newspaper quoted her as saying.

500lb George Vera, 25, hid the pistol underneath his rolls of skin, wheer it remained undetected during five seperate searches.

The 5ft 10in Vera was arrested by Houston police and taken to the city jail on suspicion of bootlegging CDs.

A spokesman for the Houston Police Department, Kese Smith, confirmed that procedures call for a suspect to be searched upon arrest, twice at the city jail and once more upon his transfer.

Vera was then transferred to the county jail, where he was searched at least once more.

It was only when he was in the shower later that day that Vera confessed to a guard that he had weapon on him. Officers subsequently found a 9-millimeter handgun beneath his folds of flab.

Vera was then charged with possession of a firearm in a correctional facility.

jeffery-hype-vybz-kartel.jpgIt has been stink in the streets that Jeffery Hype is no longer a part of the now blazing hot Portmore Empire led by Vybz Kartel.

The rumor became more believable when Twin of Twins mentioned in one of their latest songs saying,

mi hear summi wha day mi a wonder if a true,
Jeffery Hype get kick out a Kartel crew
yuh know me a wonder , I dont know bout you

.

Another speculation stems from Jeffery Hype getting booted because he was bax down by the Gully god, which was rather embarra**ing for the Portmore Empire. However, the most talked about rumor is that he was booted from the Empire because of his silly move for tattooing Vybz Kartel's face on his hand.

When OutAroad.com first heard of the rumor, a check was run on the members of the Port Empire myspace pages but Jeffery Hype was nowhere to be seen on their friends list.

He appeared in court earlier this morning with his lawyer but the plaintiff, the pregnant girl failed to turn up in the Half Way Tree Resident Magistrate's court. The case was subsequently dismissed. Bounty Killer has two other court cases which are pending. One is a traffic case where it is alleged that he ran several red lights, and the other, is a serious case in the Gun Court where he faces a battery of charges including illegal possession of a firearm, assault at common law and unlawful wounding an off duty policeman. Devil made him fondle

A sobbing Gregory Shantilou yesterday told the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court that the Devil made him fondle a 12-year-old girl's vagina and touched her breasts.

Shantilou, 35, who initially said the incident was "not intentional" but a joke, returns for sentencing on Monday.

Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey asked Shantilou, who said he is a father, if he would want another man to play with his daughter in such manner. Shantilou said no.

Shantilou begged the RM for mercy saying he didn't want to stay in custody. He said the past two weeks in the lock-up has been the worse period of his life. His plea was denied, however, and he was remanded.
