"That is news to me, I haven't spoken to the DJ in three weeks, and if that is the case, every man is his own big man and entitled to make his own decisions and I wish him all the best in his future endeavours," Kartel told a one876entertainment reporter this morning.
Rumours that there is some tension between Kartel and Aidonia have been circulating around the Internet for the last two weeks. However, both parties have downplayed the rift as nothing more than 'media chatter'. Sources close to the Empire camp believe that Aidonia is jealous of the success of the young*lo**s, Jahvinchi and Blak Ryno.
"Aidonia has his own thing anyway, his thing is J.O.P and ah long time mi not even see him come up ah the studio, so we know say him ah do him own ting," one source saiIchinokawa, who charges $150 for a wedding appearance (or more if he has to speak or sing karaoke), says his work is gratifying, but the preparation can be exhausting.

With all the talk about who is the greatest dancehall artist of alltime, we felt it was necessary to remind all, of who did it first andarguably did it the best. Shabba Ranks did it without a light skinnedcomplexion or a flowing dreadlocks, he did it by simply being ShabbaRanks and in the end became a staple of pop culture, often parodies onTV shows such as SNL and In Living Color. The story of Dancehalland Ragga would be somewhat incomplete without mentioning Shabba Rankswho at one point was unarguably the most popular dancehall actglobally.
Inhis hey days, Shabbas blend of Reggae, Hip-Hop and R&B with hisunmistakable toasting made him the real deal, enjoying appeal faraway from his native Jamaica in countries like the U.S. where he baggedBest Reggae Album Grammys in 1992 and 1993.
Inhis prime, the 43-year-old was to Dancehall and Ragga what the likes ofBiggie and KRS-One were to Hip-hop. His 1992 hit Mr. Lover Man becamea virtual international anthem, cutting across several borders.
BornRexton Rawlston Fernando Gordon in St. Ann, Jamaica, Shabba Ranksmusical foray began at 12 when a fascination of sound systems and DJssaw him freestyle often over backing tracks. In 1976, a young ShabbaRanks walked into the recording studio where he recorded, What aHeat, which launched his career as a DJ.
Withearly inspirations like Yellow Man and Josey Wales, he spent the early1980s perfecting his act. By 1985, he recorded his first single titledHeat under Sufferers Feet and shortly after he adopted the nameShabba Ranks after an encounter with his idol Josey Wales (whointroduced him to some record producers).
Hisdebut professional single, Original Fresh was released in 1987 whileNeedle Eye Punany, released a year later, marked the beginning of hissexual explicitness, which earned him tremendous popularity in Jamaica.
Between1989 and 1991, he recorded 50 singles, including hit after hit likeLive Blanket and Mama Man. During this period, a record deal withEpic Records in 1991 gave birth to As Raw as Ever which featured duetswith Maxi Priest (House Call) and KRS-One (The Jam).
AsRaw as Ever earned him a Grammy for Best Reggae Album, making him thefirst dancehall artist to ever win one. His follow up album X-tra Nakedwon him his second Grammy and featured a duet with Queen Latifah on thetrack What Cha Gonna Do. In 1993, Eddie Murphy featured Shabba on hissingle I Was a King.
Hispopularity and success led to the release of a number of compilationalbums of his earlier Jamaican hits. A third album, A Mi Shabba wasreleased in 1995 but paled in comparison to his previous works.
Hewas eventually dropped by the label in 1996 and went back to Jamaicawhere he released a few other hits. In 1999, Epic Records released agreatest hits album titled Shabba Ranks and Friends.
Withfive albums for Epic, Ranks remains one of the most prolific dancehallartists to break into the mainstream. Although recently less active, musicwise, he remains a respected talent in Jamaica.
Hisreputation was badly damaged by his explicitly homophobic views andlyrics. This was evidenced by a notorious incident on the BritishChannel 4 programme The Word in 1992 where he appeared to advocatethe crucifixion of homosexuals and was condemned for his comments bypresenter Mark Lamarr.
On tracks like No Mama Man, a sample of such views persists: Dont give a love to a man if you nuh seh him a mama man.
Althoughvery little has been heard from him lately, he is known to collaboratewith a couple of artists from time to time and also drop a number ofsingles. Some of his current works include Busta Rhymes 2007 singleClear the Air also featuring Akon and more recently Bob SinclairsLove You No More earlier this year.
Today,Shabba Ranks remains a major influence to the likes of Shaggy, BeenieMan, Sean Paul and our own Blackky, who says his delivery and styleinspired me to create African dancehall in Nigeria.

The research was published in this months issue of Annals of Plastic Surgery and confirms the link between breast implants and an increased suicide risk.
The study was led by Loren Lipworth who stated that there is a strong risk of suicide linked to plastic surgery, especially on the breast. Many plastic surgeons it is being suggested should seek mental health screening for women who want to have breast implants.
Over 3,500 Swedish women were looked at in the study, all went through breast implant surgery between 1965 and 1993. They found that the suicide rate was three times higher for women with breast implants at an average of 19-years after the follow-up.
Suicide risks did not increase after the first 10 years after the breast implant surgery. From 10 to 19 years though the risk increased by 4.5 times. After 20 years it jumped to 6 times.

Mel Cooke, Star Writer
Vybz Kartel is officially the Favourite Dancehall Artiste among 15 to 24 year-olds in a study led by Dr Donna Hope Marquis, lecturer in Reggae Studies at the University of the West Indies, Mona (UWI). They also named him the Most Popular Dancehall Artiste Now. The findings are part of research, funded by the Office of the Principal, through the Special Initiatives Research Fund, on violence and dancehall culture. It was conducted between June and August this year among 300 persons in Kingston, St Andrew, St Catherine and Clarendon. Kartel was ahead of Mavado in both categories, the 'Gaza' scoring 35.2 per cent to the 'Gully's' 25.8 per cent in response to the question "who is your favourite dancehall artiste?". Kartel's percentage soared to 47.4 per cent in response to the question "who do you think is the most popular dancehall artiste now?", with Mavado's ratings also jumping to 34.4 per cent.
not surprised Beenie Man was third in both categories, scoring 23.7 per cent for Favourite Dancehall Artiste, with Bounty Killer and Aidonia tying at 2.1 per cent and Busy Signal scoring 1.7 per cent in that category. Shaggy and Assassin got 1.3 per cent each and Elephant Man scored 0.8 per cent, with Lady Saw, Sanchez, Laden, Queen Ifrica, D'Angel, Javinci, Sizzla, RDX, Black Ryno, Serani, Wayne Marshall and Munga Honourable getting less than half a per cent each in that category. The 'King of the Dancehall' got 14.2 per cent for his third place in 'Most Popular Dancehall Artiste Now', Busy Signal receiving 1.2 per cent and Bounty Killer 0.8 per cent. Lady Saw, Ninja Man, Javinci, Aidonia and Sizzla scored less than 0.5 per cent each. The rankings go for both genders, as Hope Marquis told THE STAR, it worked out that about half the persons in the study were male and half female. In addition, the findings apply across various class and educational categories. Hope Marquis is not surprised about the results, pointing out that she teaches at the UWI and when students' phones ring in class, Kartel is the ringtone of choice. "They like the rebelliousness, the 'carelessness' that comes with Kartel," she said. "They like the idea of rebelling against what is right to their parents. Because they are young and rebellious, they like Kartel." This popularity translates to earning potential, Hope Marquis said, as this age group has the money to spend. It may come from their earnings, notably for the older ones, or from their family support system.
outpacing Mavado Kartel gains 12.2 per cent in the Most Popular Artiste category over his Favourite Dancehall Artiste ranking, outpacing Mavado who has a 8.6 per cent increase. Hope Marquis says "even if some people like Mavado, they still think Kartel is more popular".
"I think the age range has a lot to do with the fact that the top three are so consistent," she told THE STAR. And she says "I know Mavado is more popular among older people. He sings songs that have more depth," she said, commenting on his tone of delivery, while Kartel has a more staccato style. Still, in her analysis, referring to previous dancehall rivalries , Hope Marquis points out that in both the cases of Ninja Man and Shabba Ranks, as well as Bounty Killer and Beenie Man, "when we examine the dominant dancehall duo in each era, we see that while the most c****ative artiste gained local respect and immense street credibility, it was his arch-rival who gained immense international attention and the attendant Grammy award(s) - Shabba Ranks in 1992 (As Raw as Ever) and 1993 (X-tra Naked) and Beenie Man in 2001 (Art and Life). The stage is already set to repeat this phenomenon with the Vybz Kartel and Mavado, as Mavado continues to develop and expand his international contacts and collaborations with renowned international artistes". The overall report on the study is being prepared. |
Sean Paul expressed delight regarding the progress of the album on the international stage. Its a good feeling and Im happy - very happy that people like the music, and that theyve been going out and getting the album. Number 1 in Japan is a big achievement for me. Im especially proud of that, because outside of Jamaica, Japanese people are really the biggest consumers of dancehall music, he said.
Imperial Blaze is also leaving a fiery path on European charts and turning up the heat on radio stations and in clubs. Apart from being certified gold in France, Imperial Blaze debuted at #8 in that country, #7 in the United Arab Emirates, #5 in Canada, #4 in Switzerland, #15 in Belgium, #17 in Austria, and #17 in Germany. It was also the first ever Jamaican album to debut atop the Billboard Rap Charts. The wholly Jamaican produced project debuted atop the Billboard Reggae Charts, #3 on the Hip Hop/R&B Album charts, #12 on the Billboard 200, #9 on the Digital Albums, and #20 on the European Albums chart.
R&B star Beyonce Knowles is being sued by clothing firm Abercr****ie and Fitch over an upcoming perfume line.
The Single Ladies singer recently signed with the world's largest fragrance company, Coty, to launch a line of perfumes in 2010.
Abercr****ie said it was worried the line from Beyonce, whose uses thealter ego Sasha Fierce, would infringe on its own Fierce fragrancebrand.
But Coty said it had no plans to use the Sasha Fierce name in its branding.
Cologne sales
According to legal papers filed in Columbus, Ohio, Abercr****ie has held a trademark for the word "fierce" since 2003.
The company claims Beyonce, whose most recent album is called I Am...Sasha Fierce, would unfairly benefit from the reputation Abercr****iehad built for the scent and could confuse or deceive customers intothinking it was associated with her fragrance.
Abercr****ie said such confusion could deprive it of control over its trademark and perhaps cost it sales.
The legal action seeks to halt potential trademark infringement, unfair competition and deceptive trade practices.
"The terms Fierce and Sasha Fierce are not being used as names of a Beyonce fragrance," Coty said.
"Details related to the fragrance, including the official name, will be revealed prior to the launch in early 2010," it added.
Abercr****ie sells Fierce at more than 350 retail stores, typically for$40 (Ł24) to $70 (Ł42). It has sold more than $190m (Ł115m) worth ofthe fragrance since it was launched in 2002, and expects $64m (Ł39m) ofsales in 2009.
The family of a Clarendon man is still traumatised and tight-lipped after an incident last year when their beloved relative was reportedly pronounced dead but came back to life after being taken to the morgue.
Unofficial reports reaching THE STAR are that sometime last year the family member went to a hospital to be treated for a form of poisoning from radioactive chemicals. He, however, was unfortunately pronounced dead by doctors at the facility and his body taken to the morgue.
THE STAR was told that sometime after, a morgue worker entered the room where the man's body was placed, but was blown away when he saw the 'dead' man getting up from under the sheet. The source said the worker immediately bolted out of the morgue echoing a string of curse words.
When THE STAR called the 'resurrected man' yesterday, he was still extremely reluctant to give full details as to what happened on the miraculous day.
"My family and I want to leave the situation as it is because it brings back pain," he said. "You probably have to give us two to three years before we would want to talk about it openly but not right now." He refused to reveal the exact date of the incident or where it took place.
Checks with some of the island's major hospitals in the Corporate Area were not fruitful up to press time. Officials at some, however, promised to make checks of records while others said that they had no knowledge of that "miraculous" event.
Asked to respond to whether the information THE STAR received was accurate, the resurrected man chuckled and said that he would neither confirm nor deny the reports. However, when asked if he was shocked when he woke up in the morgue, the man responded "no".
He also told THE STAR that he did not see the stereotypical bright light or tunnel, usually associated with near-death experiences. He also said he does not recall his soul hovering above his body as is often depicted in movies.
He said the "experience" has led him to believe "that in life anything is possible as long as you have God in the mix"Krystal Lynn Lewis and Austin Michael Mullins, 26, were being held Friday in the Muskogee County jail on $25,000 bail each. They were charged with one felony count of cruelty to animals.
A Muskogee County judge ordered a mental competency hearing for Lewis.
Lewis wanted the puppy, named Poplin, killed because it was a gift from a female ex-lover with whom she doesn't get along, said Muskogee County sheriff's deputy George Roberson.
Roberson said Mullins shot the terrier 10 times with a .22-caliber pistol. Lewis skinned the animal at her apartment and nailed the hide to a board.
A wave of employee suicides or attempted suicides continues to affect France Telecom SA. Yesterday, a 53-year-old woman tried to kill herself in a Metz office of the telecommunications giant by swallowing pills. She had just been told that her mission was over and that she would be subject again to geographic mobility. The woman survived and is now out of danger. The day before, a 32-year-old woman threw herself out of a fourth-floor window of her office building in Paris. She had been involved in discussions on restructuring. Unions blame this wave partly on layoffs and restructuring at France Telecom.
In all, 23 employees over 18 months have committed suicide. 100,000 people work for the French telecom company.
According to the INSERM (the national institute of health and medical research), the French suicide rate was 17.1 per 100,000 people in the entire French population in 2006, the latest available year of data.
The French state owns 26.7% of France Telecom and 70% of its agents are state employees.
According to reports, Kanye West is on suicide watch following his onstage outburst during the VMAs on Sunday.
MediaTakeOut.com, is reporting that the rapper has since fallen into a deep depression and friends and family are starting to worry.
You guys [in the press] dont realize that youre pushing him close to the edge. In his mindset he could do something crazy. Please go easy on him MTO, revealed the inside source.

Vybz Kartel is perhaps the most talked about man in Dancehall--a captivating figure noted just as much for his supposed rivalries and alleged personal controversy as he is for his suave but brazen delivery, racy content, and sharp lyrical agility. His latest album Pon Di Gaza, slated for release on iTunes on Tuesday, September 22nd, gives listeners a totally different perspective; an in-depth look at the man behind the myth.
Released on the Adidjahiem Records/NotNice Records label, Pon Di Gaza is a complete portrayal of the life and times of Adidja 'Vybz Kartel' Palmer. Tunes like the Billboard-charting single "Ramping Shop" featuring Spice, "Virginity" featuring Indu, and "Like a Movie" give audiences the flashy "vybz", while new singles like "Teardrops," "What You Won't Do for Love," "Can't Frame Me," and "Yea Though I Walk" gives personal testament of the trials, tribulations, and triumphs of Adidja.
"The exclusive tracks were done late last summer, and reflects the mood of what I was going through at that point in time," states Kartel. "Detained in jail without just cause, relationships between my baby mothers and myself--each with a different outcome, the death of a good friend...real life situations. I think my fans will love to get personal with Kartel, so this is their chance."
Since his initial introduction as deejay (emcee) in 2002, Kartel quickly established himself as one of the most domineering talents in Dancehall. That same year, he was crowned Deejay of the Year at the Stone Love 30th Anniversary celebration. In 2003, he nearly topped the Billboard Reggae charts for the most singles sold, coming in second to Elephant Man.
Crossover singles like "Tekk," "Gun Session," and "Ramping Shop" have earned Kartel international recognition, in addition to collaborations and remixes with Hip Hop and R&B stalwarts like Jay-Z, Rihanna, Missy Elliot, M.I.A, Pharrell, Kardinal Offishal, Akon, and Jim Jones. In recent years, he has been nominated for Source, VIBE, and MOBO awards.
In 2009, Kartel has had six number one singles in Jamaica: "Last Man Standing;" "Million By A Morning;" "Ramping Shop" featuring Spice; "Mama;" "Dollar Sign;" and "Completely" featuring Indu. In addition, he scored two international hits with "Ramping Shop" debuting on the Billboard Top 100 Singles charts, and "Dollar Sign" being in regular rotation on popular urban stations in the U.S. This year he was also recognized by the EmE (Excellence in Music and Entertainment) Awards for Song of the Year, Lyricist/Songwriter of the Year, and Male Deejay of the Year.
Pon Di Gaza is slated for release by Adidjaheim Records/NotNice Records on iTunes (www.apple.com/itunes) on Tuesday, September 22nd. The album's production credits include Ainsley "NotNice" Morris, Lenburgh "Leng" McDonald, Jordan McClure, and Tarik "Russian" Johnston.

The dangerous miscue occurred because the child's father, Shaheed Wright, 25 of East Orange, told his son the drugs were candy after he hid several bags of cocaine in his son's jacket following an alleged run-in with Newark police, according to city police spokesman Detective Todd McClendon.
Wright was arrested at his South Munn Avenue residence this afternoon and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
The children, identified as one girl and three boys, were all four years of age. A teacher at the daycare center had the children taken to Beth Israel around 9:30 a.m. when they noticed the girl had a foreign object in her mouth, which was later identified as a small plastic bag filled with cocaine, McClendon said.
Wright's son later told police that his father gave him the cocaine and told him the bags were actually "packets of candy," according to McClendon. Friday morning, when classmates asked the young boy for candy, he unknowingly distributed the cocaine to his friends.
Hospital tests indicated that only one of the children actually swallowed the cocaine, according to McClendon. That child was treated and released on Friday.
McClendon said the Division of Youth and Family Services is expected to conduct a separate investigation into the incident.

LONDON A towering Turk was officially crowned the world's tallest man Thursday after his Ukrainian rival dropped out of the running by refusing to be measured.
Guinness World Records said that 8 foot 1 inch (2.47 meter) Sultan Kosen, from the town of Mardin in eastern Turkey, is now officially the tallest man walking the planet. Although the previous record holder, Ukrainian Leonid Stadnyk, reportedly measured 8 feet 5.5 inches (2.57 meters), Guinness said he was stripped of his title when he declined to let anyone confirm his height.
Stadnyk, 39, told The Associated Press he refused to be independently measured because he was tired of being in the public eye.
"If this title had given me more health or a few extra years, I would have taken it, but the opposite happened, I only wasted my nerve cells," he said.
"If I have to choose between prosperity and calm, I choose calm."
Kosen, 27, told reporters in London that he was looking forward to parlaying his newfound status into a chance at love.
"Up until now it's been really difficult to find a girlfriend," Kosen said through an interpreter. "I've never had one, they were usually scared of me. ... Hopefully now that I'm famous I'll be able to meet lots of girls. I'd like to get married."
Cassava Piece based selector Foota Hype is booked to appear in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.
The selector, born Oneil Thomas was granted station bail after being in custody since last Thursday.
He was being held at the Constant Spring lock-up in connection with the assault of a man from the community.
Reports reaching THE STAR is that the incident stemmed from a treat that singjay Mavado had held in the community recently.
It is said that Foota, who had been at odds with the singer forsome time now, was not pleased that some members of the community hadattended his rival's event.
The selector allegedly drove to a section of the community in a vehicle with a man allegedly armed with a gun.
The man with the gun is said to have used it to intimidate a man, who was then assaulted.
A report was made to the Constant Spring police and Foota was subsequently held and charged with assault.
When contacted last night, Crime Chief for the St Andrew Northpolice, Deputy Superintendent Altermoth ' Parro' Campbell confirmedthat the selector was booked for court.
Police have arrested a 20-year-old woman accused of throwing her 10-month-old son over a fence because of a dispute she had with the baby's father, THE STAR has learnt.
The woman, Felicia Brookes, a labourer from Sligoville, St Catherine, has been charged with child abuse, police say. She is booked to face the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court next week Tuesday to answer to the charge.
Police told THE STAR that about 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Brookes went to the home of her child's father to deal with a domestic matter. An argument developed between them, the police say, and she left in 'a huff' to her home where she picked up her 10-month-old son and returned.
Having returned to the father's home, the baby was thrown over the fence and the father told to "hold this man".
suffered head injuries
Police say the child hit the ground and suffered head injuries and had to be rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital where he received a number of stitches and was admitted in a serious condition.
Brookes, the police further say, went to the institution and reported that the child fell and hit his head, however, following investigation by Detective Corporal Kirk Roache, she was taken into custody and later charged.
Just a day before this incident, a man from Church Pen, St Catherine, was taken into custody after he was accused of throwing his three-month-old baby into a wall, resulting in the child's death. The man and the child's mother reportedly had a dispute when the incident happened.
