After much prayer and careful thought, I decided that next season, season 25, will be the last season, Oprah said. I love this show This show has been my life and I love it enough to know when its time to say goodbye.

Winfrey thanked her fans for their support over the last 25 years. These years with you, our viewers, have enriched my life beyond measure I want you all to know my relationship with you is one that I hold very dear.

Oprah fans shouldnt worry they wont be seeing the talk show diva on TV again after next year. The mega-millionaire is currently working on the launch of the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), a joint venture with Discovery Communications. No doubt Oprah will be showing her face there probably as frequently as she does on the cover of O Magazine.

Police in Oregon, USA, saw drunken Sean McDowell, 24, picking up the 1.3m (4ft) tall toy outside a shop and simulate sex with it twice.

'He was pretty enamoured with it and decided he was taking it home,' said Sergeant Bob Smith.

'Then he turns and sees one of our officers and he puts the giraffe down and walks away. Later in the evening, he did it again. Maybe he had struck out with all the women at the bar and this giraffe was looking pretty good.'

The poor giraffe belongs to the Bug A Boo children's store and was removed to a place of safety at the station.

"It's tough out there but we are remaining positive and focused on developing Serani as an artist and a brand," said Julian Jones-Griffith, Serani's manager, in the aftermath of shifting a little over 1100 units first week of his debut album, No Games
"We are lucky that we have venture partners who believe in Serani, will stay the course and roll out a third single. They share our vision of artist development and breaking him in new markets. When you think how far Serani has come in terms of profile and mainstream airplay in under 2 years as an artist its a phenomenal achievement and hes out-paced many acts who have been on the scene for years. We're closing in on 100,000 single downloads overall since we rolled out, which is huge, and I'm confident we will get where we want to go."

In a climate where album sales have been culled dramatically in the space of a few short years, everybody has felt the brunt of the decline. Sean Paul came off the back of 4 million sold and did 28k first week. Sony rolled out 225,000 units first week for Sean Kingston on the strength of a huge Billboard hit and he shifted less than 15,000. Vybz Kartel, one of Jamaica's hottest DJs, did 8 units total first week.

"Its a grind for everybody but for a Dancehall act trying to go mainstream there's an added fight," added Jones-Griffith. "Radio is a problem but its compounded at retail where its almost impossible to get product in stores. We bought ourselves out of the Universal Republic deal about 2 months ago and did a straight distribution deal with Razor & Tie, who went through Sony. Sony of course just got burnt from the 200,000 Sean Kingston returned CDs so we ended up getting calls from all over our strong markets that the CD just wasnt in stores for people to buy. We're presently addressing that and hope to re-solicit the product to retail early next year. We will build another radio story to help facilitate that and we are, as ever, working on that."

Serani signed a 4 album deal with Universal Republic earlier this year but quickly became unhappy with the way things were playing out. Trusting in label partner Phase One Communications Serani and his management agreed that the best route would be to buy themselves out of the Uni-Republic deal and move forward as an indie. No Games was released October 27 on Phase One Communications/Rockstone Media Group, a company jointly owned by Serani and his manager.

"In some ways we cut too good a deal for ourselves with Universal Republic," remarked Jones-Griffith. "They offered us a 360 deal with a healthy advance but knew the back- end would be minimal so we passed on that and cut a unique distribution-with-creative-services deal. I think Republic soon regretted that they would not be seeing the lion's share of profit that a major is used to so we found that we were still coming out of pocket to cover a lot of things going forward and quickly fell off their priority list. Phase One said lets give back Universal what they've laid out and we wont have to give up those points to them, which made sense in the bigger picture. So we took the brave decision to go it alone, drop the album in the 4th quarter and keep the forward movement going. We're going with Take Me Higher as the third single with which we will be going after Top 40."

Serani is continuing to promote No Games across the country, rounding out his North East promotion this week with release parties in Jersey and different demographics in New York, before heading out to the Mid West, Atlanta, Florida and Canada. Trips to the UK and Haiti will round out a landmark year for Serani, who will undoubtedly carry this momentum into 2010.
Announced yesterday Oprah will end her show in May 2011 which will be her 25th season,

VEGAS HITS #1 ON CVM HITLIST CHARTS

Internationally recognised singjay Mr. Vegas soared to the top of the video charts with his recent Man ah Gallis over the weekend. He grabbed the #1 spot on the CVM Hitlist chart last week, and blasted into the RE TV MVP charts at #6.

"The video is very popular. It continues to generate a lot of hits on the allhiphop.com website and we have been using social networking sites such as Facebook to market it and the public really seems to like
the whole feel of the video, and the use of the unique Jamaican dance moves in it," Mr. Vegas said.

You can also vote for Mr. Vegas' video on the CVM Hitlist chart by texting the number 48 to 444-2421, or to vote for him on the RE TV charts by texting 13 to 444-2473. You can also vote for Vegas on the Fiwi Choice Top Ten video charts by texting 19 to 444-2434. The singjay appeared on TVJ's Fiwi Choice top ten show in early November.

Recently, Mr. Vegas scored another major international achievement as his hit song, Mus Come a Road is featured on the soundtrack of the
best-selling game title Grand Theft Auto IV: Episodes from Liberty City. The GTA IV game has sold over 70 million copies worldwide.

Like the previous games in the series, the soundtrack is mostly made up of in-game radio stations. The song appears on the RamJam FM radio station hosted by DJ David Rodigan, and other reggae tracks by reggae icons such as Ini Kamoze, Barrington Levy and Desmond Dekker.

"Mus Come a Road appeared on the Strictly the Best VP compilation of 2008, and it peaked at #5 on the black chart in England so it is one of those masterpiece tunes in Europe, and it was popular on the west
side of San Francisco and the west coast. Nuff innocent man de a jail, and nuff real thugs, not rapists or killers of children, who have been wrongly accused," Mr. Vegas said.

These radio stations can be listened to when driving various vehicles in the game, or at the start menu. RamJam Fm can only be listened to in Episodes from Liberty City.

Mr. Vegas will be in Panama this weekend for one show. On November 27th, Mr. Vegas will be performing in Toronto, Canada.

KARTEL SAYS NO TO MAVADO Turns down invitation to perform at singer's bash Says he is willing however to work on solving feud

STARCover_1_PJLIAkartelHM.jpg

Deejay Vybz Kartel has made it clear he will not be accepting the invitation to Mavado's birthday bash on December 5 at Temple Hall Estate.

In a release sent to THE STAR over the weekend, Kartel said he is unable to attend the birthday bash due to previous engagements - one of which is Bolt's 9.58 party which he is booked to perform at on the same night.

Both artistes have come under pressure in the media to come to an understanding to ease the conflicts raised by the Gully-Gaza feud. Last Friday, Mavado, through his manager Julian Jones-Griffith, seemed to have been prepared to to make a move, publicly inviting Vybz Kartel to his party as a call for peace.

Stating that it was not a publicity stunt, Jones-Griffith previously explained, "We just want to put it out there, Mavado has been coming under pressure for this Gully-Gaza thing and I'm sure he wants a better Jamaica. I'm sure Vybz Kartel as a Jamaican wants the same thing. For the sake of the Jamaican yutes, we're inviting him to come onstage to show the people it's all about the music and dat we can live good. We want him to come and participate, it's something that needs to be done and we need a big stage to do it."

In the release sent by Kartel, he however outlined other means through which the feud should be solved stating, "What I think is the best way to solidify in the minds of the children that this 'Gaza-Gully' feud is merely music, is not to accommodate such a historical 'burning of the peace pipe' at such a commercial, adult-oriented event, but rather in the high schools where bouts ofviolence due to our feuding are most prominent. When a date for that is set, I will readily appear."

In the meantime, both parties are meeting with the political ombudsman, Bishop Herro Blair, in an effort to iron out their differences. Mavado has already met with Blair while Kartel is expected to do so today.

Vybz Kartel acknowledges the invitation to attend Mavado's birthday bash, sent today via the media, but regrettably declines, siting prior commitments on December 5th.

Vybz Kartel is committed to attending Usain Bolt's 9.58 SuperParty fundraising event in St. Ann and an event in Linstead, St. Catherine on December 5th, the same night as Mavado's party.

As a prominent entertainment figure, Vybz Kartel is willing to work with Mavado and all other entertainers to seek peaceful solutions to the country's mounting social problems, and build a better Jamaica, and is open to other such invitations in the name of peace.

Clovis Cards Lisa Hype

Dancehall.Mobi special update - in the Jamaica Observer's Chat magazine today, popular cartoonist Clovis cards' scandalized Portmore Empire deejay Lisa Hype along the lines of the popular statement "if you lie with dogs, you'll rise with fleas". The cartoon we assume relates to the now infamous recent matter of an x-rated photo of her being mass circulated via the Internet and mobile phones.

The Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt and United States 400 metres runner Sanya Richards have won their second IAAF World Athlete of the Yearawards.

Bolt-and-Richards-001.jpg

Bolt retained the honour for winning the 100m and 200m finals in world record times at the World Championships in Berlin, matching his sprint double at the Beijing Olympics.
"It's been an amazing year for me," said Bolt, whose training was hampered by a foot injury after he crashed his car in April. "I had torefocus my goals and put in a lot of hard work. I did extremely well and I'm proud of myself."
Richards, the 2006 winner, won her first individual gold medal at amajor championships in Berlin. She also won at all six Golden League meetings in Europe to claim a share of the $1m jackpot (Ł605,000)offered to athletes who swept their event.
"I am so excited and overwhelmed," said the Jamaican-born Richards."You work so hard to be a world champion. It's right up there with winning the title in Berlin."
Lamine Diack, the president of the International Association of Athletic Federations, praised Bolt for raising his performances to "anunimaginable level". "We need stars in the sport," he said. "He brings a lot of prestige to our sport and is one of the best-known people on the planet."

The 23-year-old Bolt said he aimed to go unbeaten through the 2010 season, when he will compete at seven of the 14 meets which make up the new global Diamond League circuit.
He has signed a contract to race against Tyson Gay, of the US, and his fellow Jamaican Asafa Powell. "A lot of people are going to watchout for the showdowns," Bolt said.
Gay said he wanted a 100m rematch with Bolt at the New York City meeting on June 12. "That would make track and field huge again in the United States," Gay said at a Diamond League launch.

bolt-and-sonya-2.jpg

Richards credited Bolt and other Jamaican sprinters for inspiring her in Beijing with their obvious love of the sport.
"These athletes were just having so much fun," Richards said. "I was so focused on winning, the medals and the money and everything that came with being a champion that I forgot the simple enjoyment and fun of track and field."
Richards said she watched videos with her parents of her running as a child aged seven and began to relax during races. "I just felt like I was running a lot lighter, the races became a lot easier," she said.
Richards said her goal for 2010 is to break the US record of 48.70 she set in Athens three years ago.
Her next main event is marriage to the New York Giants cornerback Aaron Ross in Austin, Texas, on her 25th birthday in February.
Bolt topped a shortlist that included his sprint rival Gay and three other world champions: the 5,000m and 10,000m winner Kenenisa Bekele,of Ethiopia, the pole vaulter Steven Hooker, of Australia, and the Norwegian javelin thrower Andreas Thorkildsen.
Richards beat her fellow world champions Valerie Vili, the shotputter from New Zealand, the Croatian high jumper Blanka Vlasic,Poland's Anita Wlodarczyk, who set a world record winning the hammer, and the Russian pole vault world record holder, Yelena Isinbayeva.
Votes were cast by nearly 1,800 athletes, officials and journalists.

Left: The Jamaican Michael Jackson thrilled. Right: Dancer Mystic makes time for the cameras.

Although off to a late start, Sting, "the greatest one-night reggae show on Earth", was officially launched on Tuesday night at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel, New Kingston.

The event was scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. but started almost 9 p.m. While the guests waited, they found ways to entertain themselves in the extremely hot area. Some people watched the dancers in the centre, who were moving to some of the latest songs being played by Coppershot Disco. Others made use of the complimentary liquor and chatted.

Eventually, host Ragashanti took the stage and announced the start of the event. He invited L.A. Lewis to speak, signalling the beginning of the 'mix-up and blenda' between the 'graffiti artiste' and Mr G. After that, there was a lengthy dance routine from the Jamaican Michael Jackson, who got some screams from the women in the audience.

confirmed acts

Afterwards, Sting's PR, Carla Hollingsworth, announced that there are already 120 confirmed acts for the event, which will take place on December 26. On the line-up, she said there are several sections; 'Star Light', 'Rising Vixens', 'A New Day Dawning', 'Hot Steppers', 'Cool Rulers', 'Face-off' with L.A. Lewis and Mr G and 'Chart Toppers' that will feature artistes like Vybz Kartel, Mavado, Merciless, Flippa Mafia, Assassin and Bounty Killer.

Hollingsworth noted that the full line-up will be announced at the Sting poster launch on December 4 at The Building (formerly The Asylum).

Sting's promoter, Isaiah Laing, also said 22 women have been confirmed to perform on the show, a record number for the event. Some of the female performers include Tifa, Pamputae, D'Angel and Lisa Hype, whose name generated some laughter.

In addition, Dimario McDowell made presentations to two charities: Mary's Child and Glenhope Nursery.

The once-popular deejay Tiger also made his presence felt, while Mystic danced up a storm doing moves like Bogle, Nuh Behaviour and Jerk. There were also performances from Blaze, Iyara and Zamunda, the latter getting a big forward for his song Jah Love Surround Me.

In closing, Laing promised a good show in December.

"Definitely, Sting is going to be much more than this. In 1984 when I started Sting, I was 26 years old. The show is held on December 26 and this year is the 26th staging," Laing said to those in attendance.

"That 26 is playing around in everybody's mind, so I believe something great is going to happen on that 26."

Mavado will be trekking to Gaza territory, in Portmore, tomorrow in an attempt to put an end to the Gully-Gaza feud at an event called 'I Come In Peace'.

Speaking with THE WEEKEND STAR yesterday, Dr Japheth Ford, chairman of the National Action Coalition that is putting on the event, said he hopes the celebration will open the Christmas season in peace and harmony.

"If the two of them (Mavado and Vybz Kartel) take that step forward, we will have the beginning of them coming together," Ford said, while noting that he hopes the event will put the feud into perspective. "We can't allow the Gully-Gaza feud to derail the country."

Already, Mavado has been contracted to perform at the event. However, Vybz Kartel, who is from Portmore, has only been invited to attend. But Ford said he did not speak with him directly but with his publicist Claude Mills, who confirmed his attendance.

If Vybz Kartel does not show up at the event, Ford said, he would like to stage another celebration to get them together.

"If he doesn't show, we will have another event and invite him to Gully territory," he said.

Ford also said that the police and some political representatives will be in attendance.

After the event, he said further talks are expected between both artistes.

US$100,000 or No Clash - Kartel

November 26, 2009
Started By SLICE BREAD59 Comments
Gaza boss Vybz Kartel has made it clear that he wants to engage both Bounty Killer and Mavado simultaneously in a lyrical showdown on stage to mark the 26th anniversary of the popular Sting concert on December 26th (Boxing Day) at Jamworld, Portmore.

Among the Portmore emperor's list of demands was that he wanted U$100,000 (approximately J$9 million) from the Supreme promoters to battle the two alliance deejays at the same time.

"Mi waan clash Bounty and the Barba at the same time, mi ready fi deal wid it, but Laing have to pay me U$100,000 fi clash dem, and the band we use have to be Ruff Kut or it nah go happen" - Vybz Kartel added.

On Tuesday, November 24th, Sting had its 26th Anniversary launch at the Pegasus Hotel, though none of the three entertainers were in attendance the mood was still high and climaxed with some heated exchange from graffiti artiste turn deejay L.A. Lewis and Mr. G much to the delight of the fans. The two are currently embroiled in a court case after Mr. G allegedly used his license firearm to assault L.A Lewis over some unsettled payments.

Though many waited with bated breath during the presentation for an answer as to whether or not the promoters were going to grant Kartel his wish the answer unfortunately was not forthcoming. Promoter Isaiah Laing however did highlight that this year would not be another Gully-Gaza clash as that was done last year and what transpires from here onwards will be determined by the atmosphere leading closer to the event
For years, Kibaki Halloway saw football as a possible career path. But that all changed when the conscious-minded singjay found that his true love was music.

Being one of the star players on the Dunoon Technical team which won the Manning and Walker Cup competition in 1998, many had thought he would continue in football and even make it to the national team.

When he decided to swap his boots for the microphone, most of his friends and family found it a difficult pill to swallow. But that did not stop him from toying with the idea of becoming a music star. He was even more inspired by the sudden rise of dancehall artiste Mavado.

"It (music) must be strong. Look, I have traded the boots for the microphone. Both music and football have a lot in common. They both have rhythms, timing and obstacles. Plus you have to keep shifting around," he said.

never serious

As with most artistes, Kibaki started singing in the Church, but was never serious about it because of his love for football. His path changed, however, when he met veteran dancehall act Bounty Killer in 1998. It is through Bounty that he has learnt valuable lessons about the music business.

"I linked up with Bounty Killer and it was him who really made it possible. The greatest knowledge he taught me was writing," he said of the deejay who is also credited with 'bussing' Mavado.

Kibaki's first studio effort came in the form of Dem Will, which was recorded on Sly and Robbie's Raw Food (formerly Bam Bam) rhythm in 2007. However his decision to align himself to Mavado's Gully Squad has given him increased exposure.

The 20-something singay, who grew up in Grant's Pen, St Andrew, with both parents Clover Walters and Albert Halloway, said he is unfazed by the pressure to be the next big thing from the Bounty-Mavado camp.

biggest intimidation

He believes his new singles, Money Mi A Pree and She Seh If Yuh Wah Love, recorded on Chimney Records' World Premiere rhythm, will do enough to cement his place in the minds of fans.

"I've never been intimidated. I don't think I will (be). Remember, I was a soccer player, and in that you can get one of the biggest intimidation. The future is very big and my desire is very big. I want to be a mega star and raise the banner of music through my songs," said the singjay, who now resides in Shortwood.

Currently, he's working with Rockstone Productions, which is based in Manhattan, New York, and is owned by fellow singjay Serani. He also has recorded Buss My Own on DASECA's 16 rhythm, which featured Mavado's Sixteen.

The father of two is confident he can be among dancehall's elite cadre in years to come and points to his wide knowledge and experiences as being the avenues he will use to ensure his success.

"I'm observant. Nobody is perfect. But, if I should sit here and tell you what I'm going to do in music, it would be an understatement," he said.

Reggae musician Beenie Man apologised today for homophobic lyrics he says have been "misunderstood".

The controversial Jamaican superstar was booked to play at next year'sBig Day Out music festival before outrage from gay rights groups forced organisers to drop him from the line up.

In an email sent outtoday, Beenie Man, aka Moses Davis, said the offending lyrics wherehe called for the murder of homosexuals were written "at a point inmy life when I younger and was seeing a lot of exploitation of poor and defenceless young boys in the garrison - where I too was born - by richmen. When I wrote the lyrics boys were raped and murdered often - evenrecently a nine-year-old went to buy cigarettes for a man, came back and was raped and murdered. The act of sodomy was my concern when Iwrote the song.

"I realise that those men were not gays, butwere predators or paedophiles, which is not a common word in my dialect hence the perception when generalising. I am older and realised the difference after," he wrote.

Beenie Man says he has repeatedly apologised for the lyrics overseas, and was "heartbroken" upon hearing his appearance in New Zealand had generated such opposition.

"In the past I offended others with offensive lyrics, I apologised then and now, I never took back my word. Our world is an interesting placefilled with variety and we all have to respect others no matter whatrace, choices, culture or lifestyle. I am not a supporter of hatred and never was."

He concludes the email with a message for NewZealand and Australia: "Australia and New Zealand, please know that Iam sincere and right now I am proposing peace, one world.... One Loveregardless of race, religion, sexual

“Run This Town”

November 26, 2009
Started By DJ Xlash0 Comments
So this is the video at face value: Jay-Z, Rihanna and Kanye West are performing in front of an angry mob, which is apparently out to overthrow the current order of things and thus Run This Town. The aesthetics of the video are reminiscent of movements led by rebel factions in third world African or Latino countries . When one listens closely to the lyrics however, something seems to be off. Jay-Z and Kanye are mainly rapping about how rich and famous they are and are describing bourgeoisie luxuries such as Maison Martin Margiela clothes, Riesling watches and Maybach cars. This isnt exactly the type of speech Che Guevara would give. Despite the looks, the artists arent quite revolutionary, they can even be considered pro-establishment. Is this a political rebellion or could it be philosophical/spiritual? The visuals of the video hint a second, occult meaning to the song.
At the beginning of the video, a man hands a lit torch to Rihanna who holds it up in the air. This symbolic gesture sums up perfectly the concept of the video.

Bounty Killer - Contributed

A clash at this year's Sting at Jamworld in Portmore between Bounty Killer and Vybz Kartel is already widely anticipated, and with the Warlord back in his usual cross and angry mode, it seems likely that the face-off will occur.

Bounty Killer, who had opted to take on the role of peacemaker at last year's Sting, says the people were not appreciative of his efforts to promote peace and unity in the dancehall and as a result, he will this year "give dem what dem want."

"Di people dem resent me last year Sting because mi a try push peace. I try to give them love an unity and they were not with me on that, so that determine my action this year," he said.

Bounty Killer has made it clear that he is not pleased with the degrading levels that dancehall music has reached, and feels that the general public, along with the artistes and the Gaza/Gully feud, have all contributed in compounding the problem.

"A di people dem take da turn yah, cause from long time wi sing dem song yah, a jus sey dem guh to a likkle more extreme dan we because nobody neva waan literally kill each other. But a nuh jus di artiste dem, we as Jamaicans need to look inna ourselves to. Since of late the vulgarity gone to a different level," he said.

Now, a potential clash at Sting with Vybz Kartel is Bounty Killer's way of trying to "weed out the bad weed, an that's why yuh si mi a guh tek on Kartel, cause wi nah guh mek him mash up di dancehall."

According to Bounty the Gully/Gaza issue began after an incident in which Razz and Biggy were assaulted for playing too many Mavado songs. "There is a line that I don't cross, Killa have a limit and there is a limit to everything. But Kartel cross the line," he said.

He continued ... "Suh now is just a declaration, I tek time and effort to buil an create you Kartel -an him a sey him badda dan Killa, suh I am jus here to show the people dat Kartel is not di baddest ting."

As for the likes of Merciless and Beenie Man, Bounty Killer declared, "Merciless nuh inna mi league, Merciless dead already, suh wi nuh response fi nuh dead corpse. If Kartel and Beenie waan come, send dem out, I am the Warlord!"

Charla Nash, the Connecticut woman mauled by a 200 pound chimpanzee in February, appeared on "Oprah" Wednesday to reveal her face and share heartbreaking details on her life since the attack.

SEE THE PHOTOS BELOW

Nash who turned 56 Tuesday revealed "the remnants of her missing eyes, nose and lips," as ABC News described it.

Nash told Oprah that she feels no pain but that she tries not to touch her face so as to avoid knowing the full extent of her injuries.

"I don't ask a whole lot about my injuries... I know that I have my forehead," she said. She now drinks her meals "with a straw through a small hole where her mouth used to be," ABC added.

Nash lost both her hands in the attack, as well as her nose, an eyelid, and lips. Doctors removed her eyes due to an infection, and only recently did she learn she'll no longer be able to see.

"Only . . . in the past couple of weeks did she realize that she no longer had eyes, because she had been saying that she was hoping to be able to see at some point," Oprah said, according to the New York Post.

20091122T220000-0500_164320_OBS_THAT_DISRESPECTFUL_KARTEL_STATEMENT_1.jpg
The Gaza spin factory, as usual, was hard at work last week and they kept themselves on the covers of papers, on radio and on television. First there was the release of the Lisa Hype 'sex picture' and on the weekend, Kartel dispatched his very rude statement in response to an attention-grabbing invitation for him and his crew to perform at the birthday party for arch-rival, Mavado. (Of course, this too was played big in the media).

First of all, the very unprofessional way in which the statement was written and sent to the media was totally disrespectful - very little punctuation, no space between words, no use of upper case. It could easily have been an instant messenger conversation. We had to call Kartel's publicist to find out if it was authentic, or if it was some kind of rogue release. "He did it himself," was the publicist's reply.
The other level of disrespect had to do with the content. It was only Saturday night that Bounty Killer reminded patrons at Hennesey Artistry that "the first time me put Kartel on stage people never like him and we had to teach him how to work the stage". There has never been any denial that Bounty Killer played a vital role in Kartel's career.
Like it or not, Kartel stood on the shoulders of Bounty Killer, and other deejays before him, to reach where he is today. And instead of thanking him, or, just shutting up, he had this to say in his 'rogue' release.
(The unedited version.) why would i as arguably the most influential artiste of people between 10-25 clash a dinosaur?im not into the business of raing mummies, also where his career is concerned,i dont believe in re-incarnation so i cannot be apart of this "raising of the dead" if mavado is not endowed enough to carry on dancehall musical rivalry descending from morgan/buster to more recently ninja/shabba. san/stichie. bounty/beenie..etc i will carry the torch alone till a suitable contender is found.
It's interesting that he mentions the great Shabba Ranks, because it was Shabba, who in a July interview stated that his success was made possible through the hard work of deejays like Yellow Man, Josey Wales, Brigadier Jerry, General Echo and Major Worries.
Addi, the so-called teacher, needs to get his book and pencil and go back to school. He has many important lessons to learn.

Aidonia, Kartel trade lyrical shots?

STARRIGHT_1_PTGBJStingDAM.jpgSTARRIGHT_1_PJZ64sePoolAM.jpg
( L - R ) Vybes Kartel, Aidonia - File

Rumours have been circulating on the Internet that deejay Aidonia's most recently released song, 'Mac 90' is a diss aimed at former mentor Vybz Kartel.

Yesterday, the song, Mac 90, on the Israel rhythm was released on the Internet on sites such as www.youtube.com, among others. On YouTube, the song is listed as a 'Kartel Diss,' with persons commenting on the references they believe were made at the Portmore Empire leader.

Kartel and Aidonia are both former members of the Alliance, the latter known for referring to Kartel as 'Addi Mi Daddy' in several songs. Speculations, however, have been going on for months that the relationship between the two had turned sour. In an interview with THE STAR in July, Aidonia announced that he now has no allegiance to anyone but his JOP crew saying, "No Alliance, no 'Gaza', no 'Plaza', no 'Gully'; JOP a dat me seh." The deejay did admit that the two were no longer as close as one time.

the real Lord Evil

In a song, Rifle Shot, previously released on the Israel rhythm, Kartel is believed to have taken aim at Aidonia, referring to himself as 'the real Lord Evil'. Throughout various songs released this year, Aidonia has been using the moniker 'Lord Evil' to describe himself.

In Mac 90 Aidonia responds, "a one man name Lord Evil an dat a me, your name a evil freak." Aidonia also makes repeated references to the 'devil', Kartel has referred to himself as 'the devil' in a number of songs.

A few weeks earlier, Aidonia raised a few eyebrows with his song Art of War, where he made reference to "some bwoy wid dem tongue bore ... can't call me jerky." The song was released after rumours were going around that Kartel had his tongue pierced, which the deejay later denied.

Aidonia's Mac 90 is the second song to be released on the Israel rhythm without the producer, the Gully affiliated DJ F****' consent. Over the weekend in a controversial move, Kartel voiced Rifle Shot which not only appeared to be throwing words at Aidonia, but took direct shots at singjay Mavado discussing the invitation he made to attend his birthday bash.

When THE STAR spoke to DJ F****, while commenting that he did not want Kartel to voice on the rhythm, he said the same of Aidonia and any member of his JOP crew.

F**** explained to THE STAR that Aidonia's camp had made efforts to contact him about voicing on the rhythm but he was unwilling to voice the deejay, calling the deejay a "traitor".

THE STAR, however, was not successful in getting a comment from Aidonia on the matter. When contacted, his brother and manager, Lav said the deejay was in studio.

Mavado responds to Foot Hype Comments - Part one of II

Mavado Says It Happens Again, Get Sell-Out By Fake Friends

mavado-photos.jpg

Dancehall artiste Mavado has finally decided to come forth to let the public know his side of the story about the ongoing feud between himself and Foota Hype.

During an exclusive interview with Mavado at Oak Land's apartment on Constant Spring Road, he explains to OutAroad.com that he had nothing to do with the incident that took place at Foota Hype mother's house in Cassava Piece.

"First mi get a call seh mi friend dem shoot up Foota mother's house and mi seh to miself why dem foolishness affi happen after mi deh a farin a hurry fi come back home in time fi keep the back to school treat for the kids dem in the community before school open," said Mavado. He then added "Even Foota Hype's mother was there along with other members of his family and mi mek sure dem get more things than everyone else does."

Mavado continues to question himself as to why Foota's mother would want to say such things about him and whenever he's in the community and she's in need of assistance he would be the one to help.

"Anyways mi send one of di youths dem fi guh si if anything really guh suh because all now mi can believe dat Foota's mother really have the time fi look through her window while man a shoot up har house. Which person yuh know whe hear gunshot a fire and nuh run fi dem life but yet Foota's mother seh shi look through har window and si a who a fire di shot dem. Next thing when the police went down there not one bullet piercing could be found on the house only the gate had three gunshot holes in it.Why Foota Hype don't tell people seh him move out a Cassava Piece fi how long and never carry him mother with him. When mi left Cassava mi moved mi entire family. But Foota wants to live a lifestyle that he cannot afford."

Why mi woulda guh send man fi duh bad things to his mother when shi deh pon diGully Side everyday and why Foota claiming that mi waan fi kill him when him deh a dance every night a play. Which man yuh know in fear of his life and deh a road every night a select pon sound."

Mavado believes that Foota reasons for spreading these malicious allegations about him are that they are no longer friends.

"Foota Hype aim is to mash up mi career but it will tek more than little Foota Hype to mash up mi career suh mi nuh pay him no mind - after mi nuh fool fi mek Foota draw mi out.

Foota Getting Mad?

"A Monday whe gone mi call Foota and ask him why yuh a duh dem things yah - ma reason for calling him was because mi si seh things a get out a hand - sometimes mi wonder if a mad di man a get mad. Anyways mi seh to him wi need fi link up tomorrow and talk about our present situation him seh okaylater that same night Flexxx ping mi pon mi phone between 2 and 3 am saying mi lose off a Foota because look how wi a plan seh tomorrow wi aguh build back di friendship and di man deh a Up-town Mondays a seh him nuh left him gun and all kind of things."

Mavado also stated that before his Range got shot-up -- someone sent him a text a while back confessing that Foota Hype had ordered him to destroy his Range Rover.

"One day mi get a text from a man saying that Foota paid him money fi guh up a mi yard fi gas di Range and light it. Mi show Bounty, and couple friends di text and mi decided not to report it because mi know dat would a send him back to jail. Now mi deh a mi yard and di man dem decided fi shot-up mi Range, mi have two other cars there but a di Range dem shot-upbut that nuh worry mi because a vanity and it can be replaced.

Look at this Kartel sing songs saying bad things about my mother and mi never sing back any song dissing his mother because from mi a youth mi mother always seh have respect for di eldersFoota never seh anything bad about my mother yet -- suh why mi aguh send man fi shoot up his mother's gate. Suh if Foota and his mother know a who shoot up di place why dem nuh guh report it and then come point out which of my friends dem do it but a guess he won't do so because it was his friends dem who was engaged in gun battle down the road. If someone had directly point a gun on his mother's gate then the shot would have went through di gate and hit the house but nothing more than couple stray bullets came from down the road and hit her gate.

Be sure to log on tomorrow for Part II of this interesting saga - Mavado speaks of the things that caused the friendship to end and how he got started in the music.

Which of these rap artists did not come from a Jamaican family?
DMX
Heavy D
Busta Rhymes
Biggie Smalls

ANSWER AS A POST!!!
Dancehall.Mobi special update - with Gully/Gaza tensions clearly extending way beyond his own camp and the camp of his arch rival Vybz Kartel into the day to day lives of Jamaicans and music fans of all ages at home and abroad, dancehall singjay Mavado extended the proverbial olive branch to Kartel last week, only to have it flatly rejected.

Not only has he rejected the peace offering, but Vybz Kartel has cranked the war up another notch (or two) with a new song called "Rifle Shot" that was ironically recorded on the Israel riddim, a new riddim production by DJ F**** whose loyalty is known to lie with Mavado. F**** is featured in today's Star newspaper stating that he did not endorse Kartel's song, and that his riddim version was basically taken and used without his permission.

On "Rifle Shot", not only does Kartel fire off the usual disses at his former mentor Bounty Killer and Mavado, but he also mentions Stephen Di Genius' McGregor, his one-time producer of choice. McGregor's Big Ship production house has reportedly been at odds with Kartel since earlier this year, purportedly for business' reasons. This is the first time however that Kartel has taken the war' publicly to the McGregor clan, and as unfortunate as this turn of events is, it will be interesting to see what next unfolds. "Rifle Shot" is featured below.

FLEXXX ENJOYING MUSICAL SUCCESS

Dancehall artiste Flexxx believes he's now ready to prove his critics wrong and give the public an onslaught of 'feel good' music to vibe to.

The deejay, born Omar Henry, also said he's encouraged by the current pace of his career after waiting for almost a decade to get any kind of recognition.

Since 2005, when dancehall crooner Mavado got his breakthrough with Real McKoy, Flexxx admitted that he and other members of the then Mafidi crew (Terro Kid and Rackilla) had been inspired and developed a sense of urgency in pursuit of their musical ambitions.

But it wasn't as if he was wasting time. Flexxx had previously written songs for other established artistes, and recorded his first single, Just To Impress in 1997 on Dave Kelly's Woman A Trail Wi rhythm, but never got the recognition needed to enhance his music career.

However, he knew he had to master the art of patience even when the critics were increasing rapidly.

"Nuff people seh wi stop deejay ... . Dem always a seh bad things. Most times di critics and di criticisms are from people who yuh close to," he added.

been influential

However, like many other artistes under the mentorship of veteran deejay Bounty Killer, Flexxx credits most of his current success to the 'Warlord', who also piloted the growth of Mavado.

"Bounty Killer teach mi a lot about di music business. From 1995 mi deh 'round a learn from him. Mi cyah stop talk 'bout Bounty Killer. Him give mi di strength weh nobody else do," said the deejay, who co-owns @#$an Fraternity, a recording studio which was established in 2005.

Mavado has also been influential in Flexxx's career, the shout-out of "Flexxx" at the start of Weh Dem A Do easily recalled. He said that he's not intimidated by the expectations that people have, but instead wants to build on the foundation set by Mavado.

"I'm not concerned about weh people seh. People will always look out for di best, it nuh matter where yuh a come from. What I'm doing is from my heart so I know they (the public) will love it," he said.

The deejay got his first major recognition in 2006 for the song No Gal Can Force Badman, which he recorded for Irie FM's DJ Wayne. Since then, he has been getting favourable responses for the singles Go Getter, Gully Side College and Walk Wid Dem Casket.

Flexxx also recalls the days when people doubted that he would become a recognised artiste. He also recall the times when he and his friends would sit and relish the day when they would show the world their musical talents.

"Mi memba di days when mi and 'Vado, Terro and Rackilla just siddung wid wi tape and a listen rhythms. From dem time deh wi always tell wi self seh wi ago mek it big," he said.

f it wasn't already bad to be a smoker, it is even worse for those that buy their product on the black market, or if you might get unlucky enough to buy them at a store that got theirs from the black market.

Customs recently found a shipment with more than $2 million worth of counterfeit cigarettes filled with rabbit droppings instead of tobacco.

Here is what the custom officials said...

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A man will spend the rest of his life in prison after he was found guilty in what prosecutors said was a case of scaring a 79-year-old North Carolina grandmother to death.

Multiple media outlets reported a federal jury found 21-year-old Larry Whitfield not guilty of murder Friday in the death of Mary Parnell last year. But they did find him guilty of causing her death by kidnapping her, and that carries an automatic life sentence.

http://images.huffingtonpost.com/gen/120543/thumbs/s-PARNELL-large.jpg

Prosecutors say Whitfield was looking for somewhere to hide after a failed bank robbery attempt in Gastonia in September 2008 when he broke into Parnell's home. Authorities say Whitfield never touched the grandmother, but she suffered a heart attack when she saw him, and he didn't call for help. According to WCNC, Parnell's husband found her four hours later.

A simple trip to the nearest corner shop quickly turned into a painful experience for a 21-year-old man last week after he went there to purchase tampons (sanitary napkins).

THE STAR was told that the victim Robin* from Meadowbrook, St Andrew, was set upon and beaten by a group of men who dubbed him a 'maama man' after hearing him order the product.

Robin admitted that last Thursday he went to a shop on Ridgepath Avenue in his community to purchase tampons for his girlfriend. He said she was menstruating in tremendous pain and could not walk, so he was asked to make the purchase.

The 21-year-old also admitted he was a bit hesitant at first but went nonetheless.

"Big man thing star, mi neva did too waa go eno, but a my woman and she sick and couldn't even move, so mi neva have a choice, plus mi know if me sick and ask har fi do nuttin, she naw hitch," Robin explained.

After buying the item, Robin exited the shop but was immediately ridiculed by a group of men outside.

"A pure name calling thing di man dem deh pon, how me a maama man and all dem ting deh," Robin said, claiming that his decision to answer the men resulted in him being attacked.

He admitted to calling the men homosexuals.

The beating led Robin to suffer a number of injuries, including a number of cuts to his head. He was also stabbed in the shoulder.

The Constant Spring police are aware of the incident but say a formal report is yet to be made. A corporal told THE STAR the police were also aware of Robin's injuries.

"A patrol team that was passing through the community saw a little crowd and, after they went to check it out, saw the man and his injuries; we were the ones who assisted him to the hospital," the corporal said.

Robin said he will definitely press charges against his four attackers.

"A jus cause mi did haffi go country (Manchester) di nex day mek mi neva report it already, mi still deh a country but me a come up tomorrow ... . As soon as mi come up, me a go link di police," Robin said. "Jah know star, all now mi still a feel some pain."

Linda Clark, who got shot while shielding her 5-year-old grandson from her husband, died Sunday, though authorities cant yet say if her death is related to the gunshot wounds.

Clark shielded her 5-year-old grandson when her husband, Robert L. Bobby Clark, killed her 6-year-old grandson June 7,  thinking the child took a piece of watermelon meant for a picnic.

Bobby Clark, 55, pleaded guilty last month to malice murder in the shooting death of his grandson, Michael Levigne, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and aggravated battery. A Jackson County Superior Court judge sentenced him to life without parole.

Linda Clark died Sunday, but authorities are not sure if her death is directly related to the gunshot wounds, Piedmont Circuit District Attorney Brad Smith said this afternoon. Clark had experienced health problems before shooting, according to family members.

Were not going to do anything right away, Smith said. Were going to let the family bury her and go through the normal grieving process. And then well start collecting and going over the medical records to determine whether any more charges should be filed.

Clark remained in Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta for weeks after the shooting, and later was moved to a long-term care facility late in the summer, according to family members.

The Clarks had started arguing the morning of June 7 after Linda Clark had accused her husband of taking a piece of a watermelon that she was saving for a Sunday afternoon picnic and blaming it on the grandchildren.

After arguing with his wife, Bobby Clark got a gun from his bedroom and killed Michael with one shot. Linda Clark was critically injured when she stepped in front of Michaels 5-year-old brother to protect him, according to Lindas son, Tom Murphy.

When police arrived at the house the day of the murder, a bullet came through the front door of the house, which is off Georgia Highway 15 Alternate, just north of downtown Commerce.

The shot touched off a 20-minute standoff. Officers reached Clark by telephone after they heard a second gunshot, and he allowed his wounded wife and their 5-year-old grandson to leave through the back door, according to neighbors and police.

Clark then opened the front door armed with a pistol. Officers shot him and inside found Michaels body.

The Clarks had custody of the boys for several years. The 5-year-old has since gone to live with his mother in Habersham County.

It is emblematic of the primary contradictions in Jamaica that so many poor people decry the prospect of Mr Coke's seizure while a frightened middle class and elite demand it.

In the best of all worlds, the Jamaican Government might seize the opportunity provided by the Coke extradition request and use it to begin dismantling the garrison system.

The idea behind the extradition process through which an accused person is sent to another country to stand trial is relatively straightforward.

But in practice, extraditions are messy and political, subject to public pressure and delays. And the US has been at the centre of various questionable extradition cases, where sovereignty was very much the issue.

This time, Jamaica finds itself at the centre of such a dilemma as the US authorities request the extradition of west Kingston strongman Christopher 'Dudus' Coke who is charged with trafficking in illegal drugs and gunrunning.

The fact that Coke, the reputed 'President' of Tivoli Gardens, the "mother of all garrisons", is described as a 'kingpin', 'posse leader', 'businessman', 'community activist' and 'events promoter' whose concerts are 'free of violence' speaks to the contradictions between a legal system originally created to represent colonial interests and the historically unmet material needs of the poor.

Kartel samples 'Gully' rhythm

STARLEFT_1_PSAAAKartelpKM.jpg
Vybz Kartel - File

Selector and producer DJ F**** wants the public to know his loyalty to the Gully Squad is not in question. This comes in light of deejay Vybz Kartel insulting singjay Mavado on DJ F****' recently released 'Israel' rhythm.

In a controversial move, Vybz Kartel on the weekend voiced Rifle Shot, aimed at Mavado. When THE STAR spoke to DJ F**** yesterday, he made it clear that the song was not authorised by him and he was upset that Vybz Kartel voiced on his rhythm. According to DJ F****, he heard rumours that Kartel was planning to voice on the rhythm, which was released last Monday. Rifle Shot was released yesterday.

real bad-man rhythm

"I don't want no freak deejay on my rhythm, is a Gully side production," said DJ F****. "After Mavado do so much for me, mi can't have him (Kartel) on my rhythm a style di man. Him sey NotNice is a real bad-man producer? Why him neva mek NotNice buil' a real bad-man rhythm fi him fi voice on?"

DJ F**** explained that the rhythm, including its instrumental version, was sent out via email last week. He suspects this is how Kartel got it and recorded on it. DJ F**** said while it is his rhythm, there is nothing he can do to prevent someone recording on it.

"Mi can't do nutten now, but mi waan di people know is not me voice him on it. I don't want no freaky set of people on my rhythm. Him mus keep his ting to himself," he said.

In Rifle Shot, Vybz Kartel makes reference to Mavado's War Is in the Air on the 'Israel' rhythm. He also talks about the recent invitation Mavado offered to attend his birthday bash on December 5 at Temple Hall Estate.

Vybz Kartel deejays: "Yuh is a barber bwoy, a k- me k- people while a trim yuh trim people. Di bwoy invite me a party like him waan mi k- him in di worse way."

DJ F**** is known for rhythms such as 'Clearance' and 'Survivor' which have songs from artistes such as Mavado, Flexxx, Chase Cross, Three Star and other Gully Squad members. DJ F**** says he is only willing to voice Alliance members and his "true friends". He also told THE STAR that Aidonia has been trying to voice for him but he is not interested.
Vybz+Kartel.jpg
Vybz Kartel has acknowledged the invitation of Mavado to attend the singjay's December 5th party, but will not regrettably be able to attend.

"I will be attending Usain Bolt's party on December 5th," he said in a released
The 9.58 SuperParty takes place on Saturday, December 5, on the grounds of the massive Richmond Estate in St Ann.

The primary goal of the event is to raise funds towards the Sherwood Content Health Centre, located in Usain's hometown in Trelawny. The funds will go towards purchasing the property and attempt to improve the existing facilities.

The world of beauty pageants is now in the midst of controversy once more as Miss Universe 2008 candidates Anya Ayoung-Chee (Miss Universe Trinidad and Tobago) and Hiroko Mima (Miss Universe Japan) are featured in the so-called Miss Universe S3x Tape.

According to news reports, the two beauty titleholders are featured in the Miss Universe s3x Tape wherein they share intimate scenes with Anyas boyfriend, thus doing a threesome.

As of writing, the Miss Universe organizers says that they have nothing to do with the issue. The press media from Japan are now looking for Hiroko Mima to clear her name.

The video is uploaded in purpz.com. You will see on the frontpage.

PEOPLE I've seen it...its pretty raunchy

HOMICIDE detectives in St Thomas yesterday identified two women as 'persons of interest' in the murder of 93-year-old Albert Milner.

The women were identified only by the aliases - 'Herfa' and 'Crystal'.

Milner, who is blind, was found dead at his home by a friend who went to visit him at the district of Willow Field in Golden Grove on Wednesday morning. He had a chop wound to his forehead.

Crystal, said to be about 16 years old, had allegedly befriended the old man and was a frequent visitor to his home.

"Our information is that he would often share the little he had with her," a source told the Observer.
No additional information was provided about Herfa.
The police, in the meantime, have asked that Herfa and Crystal and anyone who knows them or their whereabouts to contact the St Thomas Criminal Investigation Bureau at 982-1027, Operation Kingfish at 811, Crime Stop 311, or Police Control at 119.

"Bounty Killa is in no position to clash Vybz Kartel because unlike me,he has nothing to lose since he is already a lost cause.

kartelsmoke.jpg

Although I amsympathetic of his current state of mind because he is obviously going through mid life crisis/menopause,I will not allow him to "piggy back" my career to balance his downward spiralling one," the release said.

Kartel was responding to an interview which Bounty Killer which was published in the STAR earlier this week.

"Why would I, as arguably the most influential artiste of people between 10-25, clash a dinosaur? I'm not into the business of raising mummies, also  where his career is concerned, I don't believe inre-incarnation so I cannot be a part of this "raising of the dead". If mavado is not endowed enough to carry on dancehall musical rivalry descending from morgan/buster to more recently Ninja/Shabba.San/Stichie, Bounty/Beenie..etc I will carry the torch alone till asuitable contender is found. Bounty killa is not in my equation right now so if he is waiting on a bounty/kartel clash to  rekindle his ashes..."him (hennnesy) bubble buss!!" the release concluded.

cpcpcpTEACHA APOLOGISES TO UTECH STUDENTS
Kartel's publicity team released this statement as it relates to the Utech diss: If the Utech students are as intelligent as I know they are see, they will see that I was just poking fun at them because I was "over the other side" so to speak. Because if the "Chancellor"(me) had been at the Utech campus, the situation would have been reversed in their favour . I have a lot of respect and admiration for students and staff on both campuses. I only "styled" Utech jokingly because I know the two campuses have have been friendly rivals over the years and I meant no harm or disrespect or defamation of the great character of Utech and its students in any way shape or form. And in closing, I would like to ask the utech students when they are going to invite the "Chancellor"to do a lecture on "socio-economics".
The application software/hardware which works against viruses is called Anti-virus. A lot of questions can be framed on this topic. Here are some important points all CISA aspirants and Information Security Professionals are required to know about anti-viruses.

1. Virus signature / database/data mask/ is an algorithm or a set of algorithms which calculate a hash to distinctively identify the strains of a virus.

2. A generic anti-virus checks the database or virus signature and a heuristic anti-virus uses heuristic algorithm and checks malicious character in virus behaviour by different statistical and other advanced means.

3. Common place where a virus may reside are

RAM
Boot Records
Master Boot records
Different type of files

4. A good anti-virus should have the following capabilities:

Script checking
Compressed Files/folder checking
Quarantine capability
Email and web mail checking
P2P/File Sharing Protection
Registry checking
Macro protection

5. Inoculators calculate snapshot of a fresh program and checks any change thereafter. This is one of the best ways to counter virus but think what will happen if snapshot is calculated on infected file/program. ?

6. Integrity checker anti-virus calculates Calculates Cyclic Redundancy Checks (CRC).

7. Immunizer inserts a small piece of malicious code to provide protection against that malicious agent.

8. How Behaviour blocker anti-viruses work?. I leave this point for my readers to answer.

9. False positive condition means anti-virus reports a virus when actually no virus is there.

10. False negative is actually reverse of the false positive. In false negative is a situation where anti-virus fails to find a virus when virus actually exists in the system.

What is crazy is how alexa.com ranks traffic. So though mediazoneja.com may have more members than Twitter accounts from Jamaica. It is obvious that Twitter has more daily usage, thus a higher ranking.

It should be noted that twitterholic.com tracks the most popular Jamaican twitter accounts to be less than 400 active users. Such are the complexities of the web.

Domain name, versus sub-domain name. DNS targeted domain names versus standalone domain names. Redirected domain names, both stand alone and DNS targeted domain names. Member user base vs daily usage. Passer by visitors versus repeat visitors. Local servers versus overseas servers. What does this all mean in respect to traffic?

Marketers and advertising agencies, when are you going to begin supporting local companies performing well on the Internet that have a very targeted audience?

It is the norm in the USA and the UK. Is it that you rather stifle local Internet entrepreneurs, or is it that you are ignorant to the fact that over 1.5 million Jamaicans log on to the Internet every month. Which is it?
