Billboard reports:

While most of Lil Wayne's fans will have to wait until at least February in the New Year for his often-promised and often-delayed "Rebirth" album, about 500 Amazon customers who pre-ordered the album are enjoying the record already, thanks to a shipping mishap.

According to sources and an e-mail to Billboard from an Amazon customer, the online merchant sent copies of the album to some customers who pre-ordered "Rebirth." The album began arriving in mailboxes on Monday, Dec. 14, despite a change in the street date from Dec. 21 to February 1.

The release date change - the sixth time "Rebirth" was pushed to a new date - was made last month by Universal Motown, the distributing label for Cash Money, and its distributor Universal Music Group Distribution. Universal Motown and UMGD recalled the album, but roughly one million units were manufactured and about one-third were shipped to accounts when the decision was made to pull "Rebirth" from the schedule, sources say.

Although Amazon received the word to return the Lil Wayne album, supposedly about 500 copies were sent to customers. An Amazon spokesman didn't respond to an e-mail request for a comment.

The decision was made because the latest single from the album "On Fire," is still building. Digital scans of the single since its early December release total almost 6,000 units, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
The Neptunes are ending the year on a high note and have been named the top producers of the decade.

According to Billboard, the duo of Pharrell and Chad Hugo are worthy of the honor through their stellarproduction on his like Jay'Z's "Give It To Me" and The Clipse's"Grindin."
So who else made the list?
Timbaland, Kanye West, Lil Jon, Bryan Michael Cox and JD just to name a few.

DocMac Entertainment artiste Stacious says that the female edition of the Gully-Gaza war is as good as over as she will refrain from doing anymore diss tracks directed at Lisa Hype. She issued a statement to the press through her publicity team today. It is outlined below.
"This song will be the first and only time that I will address the Lisa Hype issue. I absolutely refuse to engage in a senseless back and forth war of words, which on her part consists of lies and lacklustre insults. Especially when her "daddy" and my friend have decided to prove to the world the great men they are and bury the hatchet. I have many songs that I poured my heart into, which displays my lyrical prowess. I will now turn my attention to promoting songs such as; Fight Back Produced by Don Corleon and a number of other great tracks of which includes a collaboration with Mavado Produced by Stephen McGregor. As I gear up for a hectic schedule throughout this Season , my fans can expect only the best from Stacious, I have invested years in this and I live and love good music, it's just a pity that the media prefers to hype controversy over real authentic music. My real fans that believe in me won't be disappointed, this whole drama is just a mere stepping stone for the greater elevation and success that is yet to come, so keep listening because good music will continue to flow. A Clarendon man was recently reunited with his long lost son after the lad and two other armed men broke into his house and attempted to rob him.

According to information received by THE WEEKEND STAR, two weeks ago a very strange and dangerous situation led to the father and son reunion, after three armed men forced their way into a businessman's house.

Two of the men, however, would leave empty handed as the third man realised that he had gone on a mission to rob his own father whom he had lost contact with for close to 10 years.

When contacted yesterday, the police said there was no formal report but they had heard of the incident.

"I heard something of that nature but it is not a case where I can say that's how it really unfolded, because there is no formal record of it. But yes, I have heard people with the story," a police constable said when THE WEEKEND STAR contacted the Area 3 police.

The policeman also admitted to hearing that the son has since been living with his father and is even employed to his business.

THE WEEKEND STAR did not get the chance to speak with the father and son but managed to source contact numbers for two residents from the community where the incident reportedly occurred.

The residents also confirmed knowing of the incident and said it was the father who afterwards told other residents of the bizarre case.

"A di talk a di town man, is a small world indeed. A di man himself tell di people dem wah really gwaan eno 'cause everybody did a ask when dem si di yute inna di place," a 32-year-old female resident explained.

"A jus God set it da way deh. A Jus' so dem did fi link-up back. Di father seh a bout 10 years him neva see him fah cause him (the son) mussi did go farin and run off," the other resident said.

Bounty Killer - Contributed

Ace DJ Bounty Killer, aka The Warlord has issued a stinging challenge to the trio of Jamaica's leading dancehall exponents at Sting '09 slated for the Jamworld Entertainment Complex on Boxing Day, December 26.

"Mek dem come, a gwine line up the whole a dem an tek dem out," said Bounty Killer in a recent interview.

Widely regarded as the best hard core deejay up until fairly recently, the Warlord has of late been challenged by persistent reports that he has lost his ascendant position in dancehall and has endured taunts from former protégé Vybz Kartel that he is over.

But the deejay, who has nurtured the careers of several of the genre's hottest talents, is determined to end all arguments and "stomp" his class and the 'pretenders to his title' in the process.

"Warlord on the attack again, full suit a black again, nuh body nuh badda dan we, Alliance wi name, all a dem a mi pickney dem," said Bounty Killer.

A survey by the University of the West Indies on dancehall recently determined that there has been a huge shift in popular support among 15-to 24-year-olds to Vybz Kartel and Mavado and away from the dominance of Beenie Man and Bounty Killer.

Could the mantle of dancehall be passing from one of its most celebrated icons? And what of Beenie Man, Bounty Killer's nemesis and the self-proclaimed 'King of the Dancehall' who remains extremely active locally and internationally and who appears to have lost none of his class?

Dancehall's best have something to prove.

A MILLIONAIRE who beat up a burglar for threatening to kill his family was jailed yesterday - while the thief was let-off. Munir Hussain, 52, returned from prayers with his wife and three children to find Walid Salem, 56, had broken into his home with two others. The masked knifeman told the family to lie on the floor with their hands behind their backs and said they would die if they moved. But the court heard one of Mr Hussain's sons escaped and alerted his father's brother Tokeer, 35, who lived nearby. When Salem realised the alarm had been raised he fled. But the brothers and two other men caught him and used a cricket bat, a pole and a hockey stick to attack him. Salem suffered brain damage and was medically unable to enter a plea to a charge of false imprisonment. He was given a two-year supervision order. He has 54 previous convictions. Munir Hussain, of High Wycombe, Bucks, was jailed for 30 months and Tokeer got 39 months for assault causing grievous bodily harm. Judge John Reddihough told Reading Crown Court: "The attack was totally unnecessary and a very violent revenge attack on a defenceless man."
Millie Martin, who was 15 months old, died in Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital on Friday. She had been attacked and badly beaten at a house in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, the day before. The accused will appear at Omagh Magistrates Court charged with murder, police said. Millie was taken with her mother Rachel to the Erne Hospital in Enniskillen on Thursday before being transfered to the Royal. She was kept on a life support machine until members of her family arrived to say goodbye. Her grief-stricken relatives said they were numb with pain after her death. Senior social workers at the Western Health Trust have been helping police with their inquiries.

Two 10-year-old boys have tonight been charged with the rape of an eight-year-old girl in west London.

The alleged sex attack relates to an incident in a park off College Way, Hayes, west London, in October last year.

Scotland Yard said the pair would appear before magistrates in Uxbridge on Thursday.

Police officers were called in by the girl's family after she returned home and said she had been raped.

A Met police spokesman said the charges were made following advice from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

'This is in relation to an alleged incident in west London in October 2009.

'They are due to appear at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court on Thursday December 17 2009.'

The alleged attack was investigated by officers from the Met's recently reorganised specialist Sapphire Unit.

The recently re-organised unit is part of the Specialist Crime Directorate.

It is run by detectives specially trained in child sex offences who have recently interviewed the young girl.

Crafty counterfeiters are giving a new meaning to the term money laundering. Crooks are circumventing technology intended to stop fraud by washing or bleaching the ink from lower-denomination bills and reprinting them as larger denominations with sophisticated computer scanners and printers.

The bills look and feel real because they are printed on real government currency paper. They can't be detected by iodine test pens used by most cashiers to check for fakes because the paper is chemically correct.
As retailers hope for a return in consumer confidence during the holiday shopping season, U.S. Secret Service agents have visited Metro Detroit retailers to warn about the sophisticated counterfeiting technique that typically blossoms at this time of year.

Police across the nation are reporting an uptick in the appearance of counterfeit money. A sudden influx was noted earlier this month in suburban Atlanta. Washed or bleached $20, $50 and $100 bills were reported last month in California, New York, Washington, Louisiana and North Carolina.

An Eastpointe man was convicted of misdemeanor fraud last month for attempting to buy a used commercial snowblower in Plymouth with a fistful of $100 bills that started life as $5 notes.

"These are the best counterfeits I've seen," said 35th District Judge Michael Gerou, who spent his college years working in a bank. "One at a time, you could pass these all day long. Trying to do it eight at a time is what tripped our guy."

David Allan Barlow, 24, of Eastpointe was convicted in a trial before Gerou on a false pretenses charge. He got a 17-day jail sentence and promised to reimburse the Plymouth resident who sold him the snowblower.

So far, Thomas Frey, 40, hasn't seen his snowblower or the cash.

Barlow hasn't been charged with the more serious federal crime of counterfeiting. A U.S. Secret Service spokesman in Detroit declined to say if there are any ongoing criminal investigations involving bleached bills in Metro Detroit, but added agents are well aware of the technique.

And they are interested in speaking with Barlow. Federal counterfeiting charges can result in prison sentences of up to 20 years.

Barlow could not be located by The News, and his lawyer didn't return calls. Barlow testified at his trial that he got the bills from a friend, who claimed he got them in payment last year for a car he sold in Detroit.

Frey said Barlow and two others with him acted nervous when he complained the eight bills "felt funny." Frey also noticed a white plastic grocery sack was partially covering the license plate on the sport utility vehicle Barlow had loaded up with the snowblower.
"That's when he got confrontational, and they took off," said Frey.

The first Plymouth police officer to arrive declared the bills legal when he swiped one with an iodine pen. Later, a detective noticed all eight bills shared the same two serial numbers.

The government has incorporated new techniques to make money harder to copy, like shimmering and color-shifting inks. But the high-tech efforts are lost on the average person and most retailers. Relying solely on inexpensive iodine test pens, as most retail cashiers do, will not catch washed or bleached counterfeit money because the chemistry is correct. U.S. currency paper also contains tiny colorful fibers, mostly red and blue, that can't be copied by normal computer printers.

Most merchants also don't bother with recommended ultraviolet lights that cause a vertical polyester strip embedded on the left side of bills worth $5 and above to glow in their denomination-specific coded colors. Even the simplest test is commonly ignored -- matching the image in the watermark in the right margin of the newest bills with the face on the front.

Because the fake $100s in Plymouth were printed on what started out as real $5 bills, vertical polyester strips in the bills clearly state "USA FIVE," and a hidden watermark image of Abraham Lincoln is visible near the right margin instead of the image of Benjamin Franklin normally found on $100 bills.

"It may look genuine at first glance," said Secret Service spokesman Mark Meyerand. "But if you look at the right security features you will quickly know it is not genuine."

Frey said he often lists items like his snowblower for sale on the Internet, but now insists on making the final transaction at his bank, where the cash is checked by a teller before the sale is finalized.
"By telling the buyer we will do it this way, if they are legit, they won't care," Frey said. Cashiers at Gigante Prince Valley Super Mercado, 5931 Michigan Ave. in Detroit, regularly check the authenticity of $20 bills and above by holding them up to the light.

"It's just good business sense," said Joe Gappy, a member of the family that owns the busy grocery, deli and mobile phone shop.

"We can't afford to take fakes, but it's the toughest thing in the world to tell a customer you can't take their money because it's counterfeit."

Tom Scott, Michigan Retailers Association senior vice president for communication, said his organization has issued warnings to retailers about counterfeiting in the past, but he was unaware of the new threat of washed or bleached bills

"Most money is transacted in a quick process. Most of us aren't prepared enough to know the difference," Scott said.

"And at the holidays, there are people in line. Good customer service includes things like getting people checked out quickly, so it takes commitment to take the time to check."

Wreath sent to matie

A medical technologist employed to a hospital in Montego Bay, St James, is said to be living in fear after being repeatedly threatened by another woman who has accused her of being in a relationship with her spouse.

The threats have reportedly escalated to the point where the med tech was sent a wreath and was threatened with acid burns if she continued the relationship.

THE WEEKEND STAR learnt that the hospital worker has allegedly been involved in a relationship with a man for some time. However, things took a turn for the worse when another woman, who claims to be the man's spouse, began telephoning her and issuing threats.

"She's really scared," a source at the hospital told The Weekend Star. "She's getting some serious threats and she's really living in fear for her life."

The source said, the defiant medical technologist repeatedly told the other woman there was no way she was going to leave the man.

The acid threats reportedly caused the med tech to change her spot in the hospital's parking lot and to start using the rear entrance. But her fears increased when one morning she was told that a package was delivered at the hospital for her. When she opened it she saw a wreath and a handwritten note stating: 'Leave mi man'.

The source said despite all the threats the med tech is still involved with the man.

It is unclear if the matter has been reported to the police.

FAIRFAX, Va. - As Erick Williamson sees it, being naked is liberating, and if passers-by get an eyeful while he's standing in front of a picture window, that's not his problem.

A Fairfax County judge saw it a little differently Friday, convicting Williamson of indecent exposure in a case that has raised questions about what's OK when you're in your own home.

UPDATE: People is also now reporting that Woods' wife is planning to leave him. A source says, "She's made up her mind. There's nothing to think about: he's never going to change."

The Mirror reports that Tiger Woods' wife Elin Nordegren may be seeing celebrity lawyer Sorrell Trope as soon as next week. According to the article, "Elin is believed to be planning to file for divorce in California -- where the couple have a home -- and not Florida, where they live." Filing for divorce in California would increase the chances that the couple's property would be split evenly between the two.

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad - Although much of the violence is gang-related, in recent years tourists have increasingly become targets for robbery, sexual assault and murder, says CDNN.INFO.

While homicides increased two percent in Jamaica in 2008, murders were up 38 percent in Trinidad and Tobago.

The US and the UK issued travel advisories warning travelers about increasing violence and the failure of police in Tobago to apprehend and prosecute criminals.

A US travel advisory warns travelers that armed robbers have been trailing tourists as they depart international airports in Trinidad and Tobago. It said:

T.I SOON TO BE HOME

Atlanta rap star T.I. is expected to be moved to a halfway house shortly after the first of the year as he nears the end of his federal prison sentence for illegal firearms possession and for possessing a gun as a convicted felon, officials confirmed Tuesday.

T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris Jr., began serving his sentence of a year and a day at a low-security prison in Arkansas last May. He is expected to be released from Bureau of  Prisons custody on March 23, after serving 85 percent of his sentence.

Bureau of Prisons spokesman Edmond Ross said it was customary for an inmate to transition from prison to freedom via a halfway house if there is no danger to the community and if there is space at a facility near where he is to live after his prison time.

Usually that process begins when there are 18 months remaining on a sentence, but in this case it would have to start sooner. Its not uncommon for inmates to be placed in community corrections for the last portion of their confinement to help with his transition.

BY STARAPPLE

Well by now you must have heard that after this bleak Christmas, the New Year is going to be like a permanent midnight. Recently there was a Black Friday type event uptown and just this week something of a similar nature was launched in downtown. While they have seen success so far, I can bet you come next year retailers are going to be downscaling faster than spit falls to the ground. Estimates from the Bank of Jamaica has so far shown that the amount of money in circulation (which normally increases during the Christmas season) is far lower than last year. No surprise here. Riding on an electoral campaign, this Government which promised jobs jobs and more jobs and no taxes has literally made the proverbial wolf inna sheep clothing seem like a scrawny gal, they mastered pitching better than any best actor or actress Oscar winner.
When we experienced the blowout from these get rich schemes and announcement of a recession in the USA, our same brilliant Finance Minister and Prime Minister proclaimed that we have nothing to worry about since we would not be affected, clearly they were living in a shiny bubble. Amusingly, the Finance Minister recently said that we have lost our appetite for risk. Hmmm, I wonder why. Earl Jarrett from the JN Small Business Loans Limited Board said that Jamaicans are not taking advantage of business options because we are not aware of the opportunity. If that was not the most embar****ing statement to be made by a Mr Jacket and Tie, please tell me of another.
Let's see what has happened so far:
a. GDP has fallen by 4%
b. GCT will now increase again to 17.5%
c. Over 40,000 persons have lost jobs with more to come
d. Public sector wages will be frozen for 2 years; yet government consultants are getting astronomical fees which are stupidly justified by the parliamentarians
e. The P.M has increased the public sector wage bill from $84 billion to $125 billion, a 50% increase. Don't mention the fact that they have less consultants but are paying out more.
f. Purchasing Power has been estimated to have fallen by 20 - 25%
g. Remittances declined by 17%, which has seen foreign exchange inflows plummeting by US$300 million
h. Minister Tufton has said that we have lost $24 million since the last 5 months at 3 of our sugar estates due to theft; Aubyn Hill better hurry and sort out the sale of our estates since he is being paid a tidy sum only to apparently be collecting a hefty consultant fee
i. Our Hotels have seen our hotels dropping our rates by 30-65%; apparently it has worked, but obviously that leads to a revenue decline, less gratuity for hotel workers (even that is now being taxed).
j. Taxes are going on Raw Food Stuffs such as fresh fruit and vegetables, ground provision, meat, poultry (chicken anyone), fish, cornmeal, corn beef, pickled mackerel, herring, salt fish, peas and beans, onion and garlic, sardine, mackerel, bread, bullas, biscuit, crackers, sugar, salt patties, oats, oil, syrup, eggs, sanitary napkin, activities for which an admission is charged by any cultural or other organization, servies rendered by an undertaker in relation to burial, creation, including the supply of the coffin
So now you can't even think of shopping in the markets because they too will be charging GCT there. I think the one that has struck me the most as being backward is the tax on fresh fruit and vegetables. After heavy promotion of the NHF and healthy lifestyles and preventative medicine, the very same things we need to help feed a body in a healthy way is the same thing we will be taxed on. Lu! What is amazing is whether you choose to die or live this administration is going to suck you dry. What is amazing though is they have allowed to remain exempt: payment of dividends and interest and travel tickets for international travel, BRAIN DRAIN AND CAPITAL FLIGHT ANYONE?
The gap between the UPPER CLASS and the MIDDLE AND LOWER CLASS will no doubt expand more than a fluffy girl. Just to party, just to survive will leave us in pain. Previous administrations have contribution to the current situation, no denying that and it will take perseverance to get through this, but what is sure is that we will see our country being sold out to foreigners who have more bargaining power (our dollar is worth nothing), a decline in morale, more crime, more extortion, more diseases (due to the stress)

An HIV-positive man infected his wife with the virus because he wanted to start having sex with her again.

The 35-year-old injected his *lo** into the sleeping woman, who had refused to have a physical relationship for a year after discovering he was carrying the virus that causes Aids.

He pricked her twice with a sewing needle laced with his *lo**, believing the pair would be 'equals' once more. But he was behind bars in New Zealand today awaiting sentencing after admitting infecting another person with a disease.

The husband had emigrated to the country in 2004 with his wife and two young children, none of whom can be named.

Immigration officials found he had HIV, but his wife and children did not, during compulsory health checks.

The woman, 33, confronted her partner on discovering she was infected a year later.

She said: 'All he said was he was sorry. He told me "I used needles on you because I wanted you to be the same as me so that you can live with me and you won't leave me".'

She told the court: 'I just wanted to maintain the relationship for the sake of the children...He insisted on staying and mentioned that he was not worried about sex...any more. All he wanted was to see the children grow with both parents under one roof.'

But in May last year, she said, she discovered a sting-like mark on her left thigh. 'After having a shower I put some lotion on myself and I could feel pain on my thigh. When I looked at it, it was turning red like a circle, getting and bigger.'

Later that morning, when she returned home from her nursing studies unexpectedly, she said, she saw her husband in the bedroom with a syringe full of *lo**.

When she asked him what he was doing, he pushed past her and walked away, refusing to discuss it. The wife searched a rubbish bin for evidence of the syringe but found nothing.

The paper reported that two days later the wife woke to a stinging feeling in her leg. 'In my sleep I felt a prick on my leg I got up..and I flicked the blankets...I looked at (the husband) and he was wide awake.'

She said she asked him if he had pricked her and he said he had not. But later she found evidence of '*lo** sprinkles' on their duvet, which, she said, her husband tried to hide from her.

She told him to leave the house - and in September, when her doctor suggested a test at a routine check-up, she found she was HIV-positive.

A nurse who had been in contact with the family and who was present when her GP told her the bad news told the court: 'At this meeting (the woman) was beside herself with emotion. (She) could not work out how she had got HIV because she stated that she had not had sex with her partner for about a year.'

Later, during a meeting with an infectious disease specialist, the husband cried and repeated: 'Please forgive me.'

The Sunday Star Times quoted Mr Simon Harger-Ford of the New Zealand Aids Foundation as saying that the organisation had never heard of a victim being infected in such a way 'and with such intent.'

What I love most about Christmas is the singing of carols. No matter how depressed you are feeling, Christmas carols always helps to lift your spirits. I particularly like Jamaican Christmas carols as they are generally livelier and easy to sing. Not being a singer myself I dont have to worry about being melodiousJ.

Today I thought I would share a Jamaican Christmas carol with you. Its called Christmas a come. It dates back to slavery days and is actually a Jonkunnu song. At Christmas time people wear masks of different characters and parade dancing through the streets. Some of the characters portrayed are horses, cows, the devil and a bride. In slavery days the procession of Jonkunnu merrymakers would collect money from the onlookers for their own Christmas celebrations. This song was sung to draw attention to their lack of finery. Now a days, we still have parades of Jonkunnu however its all for fun and no money is collected form the spectators.

Two words that you may not know from this Christmas carol are, lama which means presents, and deggeday, which means finery. The last three lines are substituted for not a shoe to me foot. You can also add your own verses as you are led. Have fun.

Nuff Love

Christmas a Come

Christmas a come, me wan me lama,

Christmas a come, me wan me lama,

Christmas a come, me wan me deggeday,

Christmas a come, me wan me deggeday,

Pretty, pretty gal, me wan me lama,

Pretty, pretty gal, me wan me lama,

Pretty, pretty gal, me wan me deggeday,

Pretty, pretty gal, me wan me deggeday,

Not a shoe to me foot, me wan me lama,

Not a shoe to me foot, me wan me lama,

Pretty, pretty gal, me wan me deggeday,

Pretty, pretty gal, me wan me deggeday,

Not a frock to me back.

Not a hat to me head

Not a bangle to me han..

Bounty Killer vs. Vybz Kartel Clash Likely @ Sting 2009

Dancehall.Mobi special update while therell be no Gully/Gaza clash at this years Sting stage show, it seems likely that the father (Bounty Killer) and son (Vybz Kartel) will clash at this years show. At the Sting launch last night at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, its organizer Isaiah Laing announced that he was 95% sure that the face-off between Bounty and Kartel would be happening, and that the other 5% is currently being sorted out. It is not known if money is the sticking point, but it is widely rumored that Vybz Kartel had demanded US$100,000 (J$9 million) to clash with BOTH Mavado and Bounty Killer at the same time. More on this soon.

Gully leader Mavado has been added to the lineup of this year's Teensplash show at James Bond Beach in St. Mary.

"We are endorsing the unity between Gully and Gaza and we are doing this for the core audience, the teenagers who most support these artistes and who are susceptible to the friction between the two. This represents an opportunity to set a new platform for the new year, especially if we can get them to perform together," Linval Gibbons, organiser of Teensplash, said.

The Gully-Gaza peace was first forged at the West Kingston Jamboree and then both artistes met the Prime Minister and a number of Cabinet members at Jamaica House to solidify plans to make the peace a reality. There are plans to host a peace concert in January 2010, and for the two artistes to do a combination single. Any proceeds generated by the concert will be donated towards charities of the entertainers' choice.

Comedian Charlie Murphy lost his wife recently, after she lost a long battle with cancer.

Tisha Murphy was fighting a hard bout with breast cancer for the past 2 years and finally passed on Sunday December 13th.

Here is the statement that was released....

Tisha Taylor Murphy, wife of comedian and actor Charlie Murphy, passed away peacefully on Sunday, with family at her side after facing the challenges of cancer for the past two years.

The Murphy family appreciates all the support they have received from friends and fans and requests privacy during this very difficult time.

Tisha died in her sleep in the couple's home in New Jersey. Tisha and Charlie had been married since August 1997 and have two children together, Eva and Xavier.

She was only 44 years old

Deejay Garfield 'Zebra' Vassell, will stay in custody until January 18 next year to answer to sexual offence charges.

When the entertainer appeared in the Linstead Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday, RM Simone Maddix told him it is a very serious offence for which he is charged.

When Vassell was asked if he is being represented by an attorney, he told the court he has none.

Following this, RM Maddix set a new mention date.

Zebra's appearance arose from an incident earlier this year, when he was accused of sexually molesting a child. The police got involved after residents reported that the child was behaving strangely.

A search was launched for the entertainer who proved elusive, until he was held in St James and handed over to the Bog Walk police.

The police are investigating at least three incidents in which unidentified men have been driving through sections of east Kingston and 'taxing' persons for the use of water.

The men are said to be demanding money from people seen washing their cars, watering their lawns and bathing a dog, declaring that water was scarce and, as such, they should pay tax for it, since the activity they were using it for was not important.

Head of the East Kingston police, Superintendent Michael Bailey, was unavailable for comment.

However, a source from the division told THE STAR that the incidents occurred over the past two weeks, and added that one of the victims was beaten for not wanting to comply with the men's monetary orders.

Really robbery

"We heard of at least three cases in two weeks. The men took money from these people for using water in their own homes. It's really robbery," the source, a corporal, from the division, explained.

The latest of such incidents reportedly took place last Thursday and involved a woman who was seen washing her vehicle some time around 8 p.m.

The police say three men pulled up at the woman's gate and immediately entered her yard. One of the men was reportedly armed with a gun.

They then demanded money after arguing that she should not be using water to wash her car since it is a scare commodity. She reportedly had to fork out $8,000 before the men left.

One man from another community was not so lucky. He reportedly had to give $10,000 but was also assaulted.

The police say last week Monday the man was watering his lawn 9 p.m. when the event unfolded. It is said that the same group of men approached him and demanded money.

When he failed to comply a gun was brandished and he was forced inside his home, where he told them where to find the money.

He was then beaten by the men before they sped off in a red Honda motor car, which fits the description given by all the victims.

In the third incident last week, the thugs took $3,000 for another man. The police say investigations are ongoing.

The Red Ribbon is the global symbol for solidarity with HIV-positive people and those living with AIDS.

World AIDS Day, observed December 1 each year, is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection. It is common to hold memorials to honor persons who have died from HIV/AIDS on this day. Government and health officials also observe the event, often with speeches or forums on the AIDS topics. Since 1995, the President of the United States has made an official proclamation on World AIDS Day. Governments of other nations have followed suit and issued similar announcements.

AIDS has killed more than 25 million people between 1981 and 2007,[1] and an estimated 33.2 million people worldwide live with HIV as of 2007,[2] making it one of the most destructive epidemics in recorded history. Despite recent, improved access to antiretroviral treatment and care in many regions of the world, the AIDS epidemic claimed an estimated 2 million lives in 2007,[3] of which about 270,000 were children.[4]

MIAMI - Jamaican reggae star Buju Banton will fight the drug charge against him in Tampa instead of Miami.
Banton, whose real name is Mark Anthony Myrie, waived his bail hearing Wednesday in Miami federal court. His case is being prosecuted in Tampa, where he will be transferred.
U.S. Magistrate Judge William Turnoff issued a temporary order of detention.
A U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration affidavit says Banton and two others tried to buy a large amount of cocaine from an undercover officer in Sarasota last week.
Banton has been in federal custody since Thursday. He is charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine.
Banton's attorney says the singer denies the charges.

Christmas Facts

Every year more than 400 million people celebrate Xmas around the world -- that makes Xmas one of the worlds biggest religious and commercial festivities. In approximately year 300 A.D., the birthday of Jesus was determined to be on December 25, the day that has been celebrated from then till this very day. The celebration on the 25th of December starts with Christmas Eve, the evening of December 24.

The religious festival is originally a blend of pagan customs. The Romans held a festival on December 25 called Dies Natalis Solis Invicti, i.e. "the birthday of the unconquered sun.". Pagan Scandinavia celebrated a winter festival called Yule, held in late December to early January. However, it is uncertain exactly why December 25 became associated with the birth of Jesus since the Old Testament doesnt mention a specific date of the event.

'System' Moves to block expansion of Street Vybz Rum - Kartel says
User Rating: / 0

Written by Sean Miller/Business Writer

Businessman Corey Todd and entertainer Adidja Palmer a.k.a Vybz Kartel, the owners of Unlimited Daggering, the company which is responsible for the marketing and production of Street Vybz Rum, are charging that there are business interests which are blocking the growth of their company and undermining their ability to compete in the marketplace and generate revenue to employ over 20 workers.

"We pay our taxes, we go through the right avenues to get our product, we have secured our licence to manufacture the rum through the proper government channels, so what is the problem," Vybz Kartel said.

"We employ 15 persons, generate millions in tax revenue to the government, and we have plans to expand our business and employ more persons in the future and these people are trying to block Street Vybz Rum. Why is the government allowing these sort of unfair business practices which are stifling a small growing company?" the deejay asked. Jamaica's unemployment rate is 10.3 per cent according to statistics released by STATIN in October 2008.

Corey Todd believes that the problems of the company stem from their decision to expand their business, establish their own factory and purchase stock directly from National Rums of Jamaica (NRJ). This decision to become rulers of their own destiny could have a negative impact on the financial bottomline of their former manufacturers, Port Royal Rums, who would stand to lose substantial revenues from the new-found independence of Street Vybz Rum.

"The brand has been doing very well on the market but has been having problems with our manufacturers, Port Royal
Rums. Port Royal rums has refused to negotiate considering when the brand started with a 100 cases a month to now over 800 cases a month. With that kind of growth you would expect a price decrease but instead we received a price increase. The Port Royal Company is also being audited for not paying the proper taxes. Port Royal wasnt producing our product efficiently or effectively even though we were the main source of income to their company," Corey Todd said.

Corey Todd believes that an 'old boys network' is masterminding the move to keep Street Vybz Rum from becoming a serious player in the market.

"Geoffrey Messado, the owner of Port Royal rum felt that we couldn't bottle the rum ourselves so
whatever they said was law. So after numerous of failed negotiations we decided to open our own factory. I then approached National Rums of Jamaica, a company that the govt has a percentage ownership. I asked them what requirements would be needed to purchase rum from them, I was told a spirit compound license, a bond for the excise
office and other requirements. We filled all criteria through the proper channels, set up our factory for production which cost us over
5 million dollars, then approached National rums of Jamaica with an order. I was informed my order was being processed and would get the rum in a few days," Todd explained.

Then the power play to block Street Vybz Rum began.

"Geoffrey Messado found out we were purchasing rum, so he contacted his childhood friend Evon Brown, the managing director of
National Rums of Jamaica and requested he not sell us the product. After being told on Monday the 14 of December I could pay and pick up the rum tomorrow being Tuesday the 15th, when I called the company to make specific agreements I realized I was being given the run around. I decided to go to their office where I was told that my company wasn't approved by the directors because they don't know anything about the company. I stated I was purchasing the rum cash and already possessed all the
requirements. Their argument then changed to well we don't have the rum and we are closed for holidays, clearly this isnt true."

Todd claims that there are interests which are attempting to strongarm him into buying from a company that sells at an inflated price and moreover, this is an anti-competitive practice which could be met with legal sanctions if properly investigated.

"Geoffrey Messado then disclosed to me that himself and Evon Brown are close friends and it impossible for me to get rum for National Rums of Jamaica, (which is a government owned company). This is merely a ploy to hinder my company's progress by a 'bad mind uptown man', after he already made over $15 million in less than a year due to our product. Geoffrey messado is now hoping we can negotiate prices," Todd said, quite clearly upset.

National Rums of Jamaica Limited (NRJ) is a limited liability company established in 1980, however, contrary to Mr. Todd's claim, the NRJ is not fully government owned. Four years ago, that was the case, but since then, Demerara Distillery Limited of Guyana and Goddard Enterprises Limited of Barbados have each acquired a one-third stake. Each of the partners has two directors on the rum company's board.

"My company has already hired over 20 employees, we have orders amounting in over 400 hundred cases waiting to be filled. I learnt today by Geoffrey Messado that the only way these orders are going to be filled with rum from NRJ is through his company Port Royal rums. My directive to Geoffrey Messado was until I receive my rum I wont be paying them the amount I have outstanding which Duncan Messado is already ludicrously inflating. This situation caused by Mr. Messado is not only stopping my companys business but special consumption tax of millions of dollars monthly to be paid to the government and denying 20 individuals of their only source of income. We demand that the board take us seriously," he said.

Todd said the situation was patently unfair and sent the wrong message about the presumption of a free, efficient and fair marketplace.

"The government should do something to stop these guys from creating a monopolistic situation by actively prohibiting competitors from entering the field," Todd concluded.

Entertainer Garfield Vassell, more popularly know as Zebra, has been held by the St Catherine North police and is scheduled to face the Linstead Resident Magistrate's Court for sexual offences.

zebra_rape_prison_artis.JPG

The Star learnt from the police that Vassell was handed over to the Bog Walk police on Friday by their St James counterparts.

It was eight months ago that the name of the entertainer started to circulate in the media after he was accused of sexually assaulting aclose relative.

strange behaviour

Reports are that the stepchild of Zebra, was sexually assaulted. This came to light in early February when residents observed the child behaving strangely.

A report was made and the police investigation led to a series of searches for the entertainer who remained elusive until he was heldin St James.

Zebra came to prominence in the late 1990s with songs such as Rupert Cut in a two and Redder than Red.

However, he was convicted of rape in 2002 and was sentenced to eight years hard labour and was released in July 2008.

So everyone, yes..I heard from legit sources, that is the HUGE SECRET our prestine, perfect little Princess RiRi, the IDOL has been hiding from the media.   A very close source of mine, who works in the same legal camp as Rihanna, has told me that the reason why Rihanna wasnt speaking out about the CHRIS BROWN incident is because there was a catch 22 in it.  Rihanna has herpes, and.wellI dont wanna put anyone else on blast, but Rihanna has herpes and gave someone else herpes that she had slept with.

My sources are very legit, and they work in Rihannas legal camp, and that is how I know!  SO RIHANNA HAS HERPES, STDS & WAS SCARED TO SPEAK OUT ABOUT IT CUZ SHE DIDNT WANT THE WORLD TO KNOW THAT SHE HAS HERPES AND INFECTED SOMEONE ELSE WITH IT!  BAD RIHANNA!

The beleaguered R&B artist has shut down his Twitter account, a day after microblogging his butt off about Walmart and other big-box haters not stocking his new album.

Which he shouldnt really have worried about, because Walmart is, in fact, carrying Graffiti. And apparently, displaying it prominently.

We are surprised at the comments online, read a statement released by the store today. All Walmart stores nationwide have carried the CD since its release, including the Wallingford, [Conn.], store mentioned in the post. This store actually sold through its initial shipment over the weekend. The majority of our stores today are showing they do have copies available.

Brown tweeted yesterday: JUST WAS AT WALMART IN wallingford CT,844 north colony.. the didnt even have my album in the back not on shelves, saw for myselfwe talked to the managers and the didnt even know anything. wow!!! but they had Alicia Keys album ready for release for this tuesday cominno disprespect to alicia at all.. just givin an example to whos album is loaded and ready to go next week.

Yes, how dare the manager know all about the upcoming album release from 12-time Grammy winner Alicia Keys!

Anyway, earlier today, Brown signed off with this tweet: I WANNA THANK MY FANS FOR ALL THE SUPPORT. I LOVE YALL. GOODBYE!!!!!!!!!!!!

R.I.P. SQUINGY FROM BASS ODYSSEY

November 24, 2009

THE LEGEND GONE TOO SOON, A MILLION GUNS SALUTE SQUINGY

Kevin Squingy Bennett was a legend, a product of natural, raw talent. It is with much grief that we must inform the public that he is no longer among us.
At 6:40 am on Tuesday November 24, 2009, we were informed of his death in a hospital in Tampa, Florida. It is reported that his lungs collapsed which lead to the failure of his other organs.

At little over five years ago, he was diagnosed with a terminal illness. Although there is no cure he had been receiving adequate treatment in both Jamaica and the United States. At this time we extend gratitude to those who have helped us to support and maintain Squingys life until now as that in itself is a miracle from the Almighty that he had been with us so long.

Kevin was a proud, strong, loyal and dedicated member of our family who bravely fought this obstacle to the final second and lived his life to the fullest in light of the surrounding circumstances.

We appeal to the true Squingy friends and family, the loyal Bass Odyssey fans and supporters of the music that effort be made to preserve his important legacy and contribution. Let us bury the man as a legend.

We maintain that we have always supported Squingy and the entire staff and in extension Alexandria community have stood by his side 100 per cent. Keith Walford and Kirky C are making the necessary arrangements to ship his body to Jamaica where he will receive an honourable burial.

We appeal to everyone to rise to the occasion and support us in honouring a legend for his lifetime and dedication to entertaining fans around the globe.
Thanks to those who have expressed their support and condolences, they are our strength in this time of grief.

Sincerely
Bass Odyssey
