NEW YORK: R'n'B star Usher has suffered a loss of more than $1 million following a car burglary. Atlanta police revealed thieves stole jewellery, furs and electronics after breaking into his car. Usher had parked his car next to an AT&T store, on December 14, near Lenox Mall in Atlanta, when the crime took place, reports the New York Post. The police report described the vehicle as a black GMC Yukon. An eyewitness revealed that a man came out of a Chevy Impala with tinted windows, and opened the door to the SUV. Usher said jewellery, along with 50,000 dollars in furs and about 20,000 dollars in cash were lost. Police is still investigating the case.

So far, Wyclef Jean's nonprofit organization, Yele Haiti, has raised over $1 million for the victims of Tuesday's devastating earthquake from mobile donations alone. With a series of urgent tweets, an appearance on CNN and the help of his famous friends the singer has mobilized a massive effort on behalf of his homeland, imploring followers to text "Yele" to 501501 to donate $5 to the effort.

According to Albe Angel, CEO of Miami-based Give on the Go, the mobile-communications company working with Yele Haiti to coordinate donations, the organization has raised over $1 million for relief efforts since the earthquake. Yele's goal is to up that figure to $1 million a day as part of the SMS fundraising drive.

"Since the disaster occurred around 5 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday and [by] midnight [Wednesday] we cleared $1 million," said Angel, whose company provides the technology that allows mobile users to make an automatic $5 donation. Give on the Go has announced that 100 percent of the donations raised will go directly to Yele Haiti. More than 200,000 people have donated to the cause, and Angel said he thinks it's possible that the $1 million-per-day goal could be reached, given the volume of donations that have been coming in. "These types of donations really were spawned by the [2004] tsunami relief effort, and the $1 million that Yele has raised already is a watershed event."

Wyclef is not the only celebrity who has stepped up to aid the cause. The Jolie-Pitt Foundation, founded by Angelina Jolie and partner Brad Pitt, has pledged $1 million to the emergency medical operations of Doctors Without Borders.

"It is incredibly horrible to see a catastrophe of this size hit a people who have been suffering from extreme poverty, violence and unrest for so many decades," Jolie said in a statement on Wednesday.

Relief efforts have spawned Facebook and Twitter users to take action, and a number of other celebrities have joined in the fight to send urgently needed supplies to the impoverished Caribbean nation, including Alyssa Milano, Olivia Wilde, LL Cool J, Jessica Alba, Demi Moore and Joel and Benji Madden.

On Thursday, President Obama pledged $100 million in aid from the U.S. The United Nations also announced that $10 million would go to relief efforts in Haiti, while the World Bank pledged $100 million.

KINGSTON: Usain Bolt has warned American sprinter Justin Gatlin not to expect anything easy on his pending return to the track.

Bolt, who dominated both sprints over the last two years, said Gatlin, who is serving a four-year doping ban, might just have something different waiting for him on his return.

Earlier this week, Gatlin, who is expected to be back on the track by July 25, said he is targeting Bolt, Gay and Asafa Powell, the worlds three fastest men, by claiming, times dont scare me.

I think he will find it a bit different from the last time he was here, because the game has stepped up a lot, warned Bolt.

He is going to have his hands full, not just by me, Asafa and Tyson but there are a lot of other upcoming sprinters.but it should be good.

Bolt, who said he welcomes Gatlin back on the track when the time is right, then also said, Its more competition and its better for the sport, so I am looking forward to it.

He further said he would be ready to race Gatlin anywhere as long as he is on the line, as was the situation with Dwain Chambers last year.

An Army Specialist has been thrown in jail, after being accused of making threats against other soldiers in a rap song. 

Iraq war veteran specialist Mark Hall was based at Fort Stewart, Georgia.

He's been in custody since December, charged with conduct prejudicial to the good order and discipline of the Armed Forces and for threatening violence on multiple occasions.

Hall's lyrics on a rap song posted to the Internet threatened to kill Colonels, Captains, Kernels, E-7s and above, using his M4 assault rifle.

Officials have charged Hall for threatening to go on a rampage and attack other soldiers if he was deployed to Iraq again.

Hall also allegedly mailed a copy of the song to the Pentagon this summer, when he received notice that he would be sent back to the Middle East again for another tour of duty.

According to Stripes.com, Hall belongs to Iraq Veterans Against the War. The antiwar group is attempting to hire James Klimaski, a Washington-based lawyer to represent Scott.

Klimaski said that the allegations against Hall were trumped up and that the Army Specialists lyrics should not be taken literally.

Hall was arrested just a month after Army psychiatrist Maj. Malik Hasan Nidal open fired and killed 13 people at a Fort Hood, Texas army base.

"To how mi crash, mi swear mi woulda dead. Di helmet save mi life 'cause mi did all a roll."

Erup said he was in the vicinity of the Rockfort Police Station about 3 p.m. heading to the John John studio to do recording when the accident occurred.

"Di man turn out pon mi. Di man just come over and nah look inna him mirror and lick mi off a mi bike. Everybody seh di car man just drive weh," Erup told THE STAR, while waiting for treatment at the Kingston Public Hospital.

Disgraced golfer Tiger Woods is set to rescue his good name by donating $3 million to Wyclef Jean's Yele foundation in an effort to create a mobile hospital in Haiti, according to rap mogul Russell Simmons. The Def Jam co-founder tells the New York Daily News Woods is considering the weighty donation that would help send doctors and supplies to Haiti to deal with the aftermath of a 7.3 earthquake which hit the nation on Tuesday, January 12.

The rap icon says, "Tiger Woods is working on sending a mobile hospital with 50 EMTs to go set up a triage." Simmons has called on all celebrities to join the relief effort.

Woods is believed to be in hiding in South Africa after taking a hiatus following allegations he cheated on his wife Elin Nordegren with a string of mistresses.

Incarcerated deejay Buju Banton reached out to the Haiti cause yesterday by donating US$1,000 ($89,000)as well as clothes and shoes to Haitian artiste Wyclef Jean's Yele Organization.

Although experiencing problems of his own as he is currently in jail in the United States facing drug charges, the deejay opened up his own closet, clothes and shoes to assist persons devastated by the earthquake.

On Tuesday, Haiti was struck by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake followed by countless strong aftershocks leaving an immense loss of life and devastation. The earthquake was the largest the island has suffered in more than 200 years.

Yesterday, news began circulating on social networking website, Twitter.com, of Buju's deed. However, when THE WEEKEND STAR spoke to a friend of Buju's they confirmed that clothes and shoes as well as a pledge of US$1,000 ($89,000) was made to the Yele Haiti Organization. The source said: "I talked to him about the situation and he said he wanted to help."

They added, "he was very disturbed, saddened and touched by the situation and really wanted to help."

In the wake of the earthquake, Haitian superstar Wyclef Jean (former member of the popular trio, The Fugees), went on a drive to assist his country through his Yele Foundation. According to a report made on his Twitter page, the singer went to Haiti on Wednesday morning. He said: "I am on my way to the DR (Dominican Republic) to get to Haiti. Please urge your councilmen, governors etc: we need a state of emergency for Haiti."

Jean has organised a donation page on his Yele Haiti Foundation website. Jean set up the foundation in 2005 to provide scholarships to children in Haiti after the devastation by hurricane Jeanne. On his website, Jean said persons can make a donation by texting 'Yele' to 501-501, which will automatically donate US$5 ($445) to the Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund.

According to www.rapradar.com yesterday, Yele Haiti organisation has received over 200,000 text donations and has raised US$1 million for the victims of Tuesday's earthquake.

During an appearance in court last week, Banton was denied bail. He pleaded not guilty to the charge. If convicted, Buju faces 20 years' imprisonment.

David Beckham was approached by the creators of the popular animated series The Simpsons to make a cameo appearance, but was turned down as show's bosses didn't think he was famous enough.

Al Jean, the show's principal writer and executive producer, said: "We had a request from David Beckham and I had to phone him up and tell him sorry but I didn't want him on the show right now. I don't think he was a big enough star for American audiences."

There is the ugly graffiti on walls leading to the San Siro stadium, where the Inter Milan striker plays. "Non sei un vero Italiano, sei un Africano nero," it says. Translation: "You are not a true Italian, you are a black African."

There are the unprintable racist chants and vicious boos he hears when he plays, and which live on, even after matches are over, in videos on the Internet. There was the time in Rome last June when, his sister says, hooligans threatened him and hurled a bunch of bananas into the bar where Balotelli was relaxing with fellowplayers from Italy's under-21 squad, prompting the owner to call the police.

And what has the Italian league done in response to the insults he regularly faces? Unbelievably, it slapped Balotelli with a euro7,000 ($10,000) fine last week.

CNN) -- James Cameron's completely immersive spectacle "Avatar" may have been a little too real for some fans who say they have experienced depression and suicidal thoughts after seeing the film because they long to enjoy the beauty of the alien world Pandora.

On the fan forum site "Avatar Forums," a topic thread entitled "Ways to cope with the depression of the dream of Pandora being intangible," has received more than 1,000 posts from people experiencing depression and fans trying to help them cope. The topic became so popular last month that forum administrator Philippe Baghdassarian had to create a second thread so people could continue to post their confused feelings about the movie.

"I wasn't depressed myself. In fact the movie made me happy ," Baghdassarian said. "But I can understand why it made people depressed. The movie was so beautiful and it showed something we don't have here on Earth. I think people saw we could be living in a completely different world and that caused them to be depressed."

A post by a user called Elequin expresses an almost obsessive relationship with the film.

A user named Mike wrote on the fan Web site "Naviblue" that he contemplated suicide after seeing the movie.

"Ever since I went to see Avatar I have been depressed. Watching the wonderful world of Pandora and all the Na'vi made me want to be one of them. I can't stop thinking about all the things that happened in the film and all of the tears and shivers I got from it," Mike posted. "I even contemplate suicide thinking that if I do it I will be rebirthed in a world similar to Pandora and the everything is the same as in 'Avatar.' "

Other fans have expressed feelings of disgust with the human race and disengagement with reality.

Cameron's movie, which has pulled in more than $1.4 billion in worldwide box office sales and could be on track to be the highest grossing film of all time, is set in the future when the Earth's resources have been pillaged by the human race. A greedy corporation is trying to mine the rare mineral unobtainium from the planet Pandora, which is inhabited by a peace-loving race of 7-foot tall, blue-skinned natives called the Na'vi.

In their race to mine for Pandora's resources, the humans clash with the Na'vi, leading to casualties on both sides. The world of Pandora is reminiscent of a prehistoric fantasyland, filled with dinosaur-like creatures mixed with the kinds of fauna you may find in the deep reaches of the ocean. Compared with life on Earth, Pandora is a beautiful, glowing utopia.

Ivar Hill posts to the Avatar forum page under the name Eltu. He wrote about his post-Avatar depression after he first saw the film earlier this month.

"When I woke up this morning after watching Avatar for the first time yesterday, the world seemed ... gray. It was like my whole life, everything I've done and worked for, lost its meaning," Hill wrote on the forum. "It just seems so ... meaningless. I still don't really see any reason to keep ... doing things at all. I live in a dying world."

Reached via e-mail in Sweden where he is studying game design, Hill, 17, explained that his feelings of despair made him desperately want to escape reality.

"One can say my depression was twofold: I was depressed because I really wanted to live in Pandora, which seemed like such a perfect place, but I was also depressed and disgusted with the sight of our world, what we have done to Earth. I so much wanted to escape reality," Hill said.

Cameron's special effects masterpiece is very lifelike and the 3-D performance capture and CGI effects essentially allow the viewer to enter the alien world of Pandora for the movie's 2½-hour run-time, which only lends to the separation anxiety some individuals experience when they depart the movie theater.

"Virtual life is not real life and it never will be, but this is the pinnacle of what we can build in a virtual presentation so far," said Dr. Stephan Quentzel, psychiatrist and Medical Director for the Louis Armstrong Center for Music and Medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York. "It has taken the best of our technology to create this virtual world and real life will never be as utopian as it seems onscreen. It makes real life seem more imperfect."

Fans of the movie may find actor Stephen Lang, who plays the villainous Col. Miles Quaritch in the film, an enemy of the Na'vi people and their sacred ground, an unlikely sympathizer, but Lang says he can understand the connection people are feeling with the movie.

"Pandora is a pristine world and there is the synergy between all of the creatures of the planet and I think that strikes a deep cord within people that has a wishfulness and a wistfulness to it," Lang said. "James Cameron had the technical resources to go along with this incredibly fertile imagination of his and his dream is built out of the same things that other peoples' dreams are made of."

The bright side is that for Hill and others like him who became dissatisfied with their own lives and with our imperfect world after enjoying the fictional creation of James Cameron, becoming a part of a community of like-minded people on an online forum has helped them emerge from the darkness.

"After discussing on the forums for a while now, my depression is beginning to fade away. Having taken a part in many discussions concerning all this has really, really helped me," Hill said. "Before, I had lost the reason to keep on living -- but now it feels like these feelings are gradually being replaced with others."

Quentzel said creating relationships with others is one of the keys to human happiness and that even if those connections are occurring online they are better than nothing.

"Obviously there is community building in these forums," Quentzel said. "It may be technologically different from other community building, but it serves the same purpose."

Within the fan community, suggestions for battling feelings of depression after seeing the movie include things like playing "Avatar" video games or downloading the movie soundtrack in addition to encouraging members to relate to other people outside the virtual realm and to seek out positive and constructive activities

Penderg****, 59, died at Bryn Mawr Hospital of a protracted illness that followed a colon-cancer diagnosis last year. With his death, the Philadelphia music community mourns a man who rose from humble beginnings in North Philadelphia to become a global superstar.

Penderg**** was the brightest solo light to emerge from Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff's Philadelphia International Records during the '70s, after years of scoring hits like "The Love I Lost," "Bad Luck," and "If You Don't Know Me by Now" with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, the classy ensemble with which he started as a drummer.

Poland okays forcible castration for paedophiles

Under the law, sponsored by Poland's centre-right government, paedophiles convicted of raping children under the age of 15 years or a close relative would have to undergo chemical therapy on their release from prison.

"The purpose of this action is to improve the mental health of the convict, to lower his libido and thereby to reduce the risk of another crime being committed by the same person," the government said in a statement.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk said late last year he wanted obligatory castration for paedophiles, whom he branded 'degenerates'. Tusk said he did not believe "one can use the term 'human' for such individuals, such creatures".

"Therefore I don't think protection of human rights should refer to these kind of events," Tusk also said.

His remarks drew criticism from human rights groups but he never retracted them.

"Introducing any mandatory treatment raises doubts as such a requirement is never reasonable and life can always produce cases that lawmakers could never have even dreamt of," said Piotr Kladoczny from the Helsinki Foundation of Human Rights.

"If somebody is of sound mind, we punish him. If he is sick, we try to cure him -- that's how it works in Polish law. This bill introduces both approaches. As far as I know, this makes our law the strictest in Europe on this issue," Kladoczny said.

The bill, which also increases prison sentences for rape and incest, must still be approved by the upper chamber of parliament. This is seen as a formality as Tusk's Civic Platform party holds a majority of its 100 seats.

Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas was charged Thursday with felony gun possession, a crime that carries a maximum five years in jail and a fine, authorities said.

The charge was announced Thursday afternoon by the U.S. Attorney's office for the District.

Arenas's attorney and prosecutors had been negotiating a plea deal during the day and it was not immediately clear whether the filing of charges was a part of the deal. Court officials said they had been told to prepare to have Arenas in Superior Court on Friday.

The U.S. Attorney's office alleged that on Dec. 21, Arenas "did carry, openly and concealed on or about his person, in a place other than his dwelling place, place of business or on other land possessed by him, a pistol, without license issued pursuant to law."

The guns became an issue after Arenas and Wizards teammate Javaris Crittenton got into an argument after a card game and Crittenton allegedly said he should shoot Arenas in his surgically repaired left knee, sources have said. Days later on Dec. 21, after a practice at Verizon Center, Arenas placed the guns on a chair next to Crittenton's locker with a note that said "pick one."

A grand jury began hearing testimony in the case on Jan. 5. But it was not immediately clear whether Thursday's charges came from the grand jury or directly from prosecutors.

Arenas's attorney, Kenneth L. Wainstein, could not immediately be located and prosecutors so far have not commented

Also Thursday, D.C. and Arlington police searched Crittenton's home looking for the gun he reportedly used in the locker room confrontation with Arenas, according to sources familiar with the investigation and court papers.

Police did not find the gun at his Arlington home in the 7:15 a.m. search, Crittenton's lawyer and the court papers said.

Reached through e-mail, Crittenton's lawyer, Peter White, said he was not available to talk, but offered this statement:

"I can confirm that a search warrant was executed on Mr. Crittenton's apartment today, that Mr. Crittenton cooperated with the officers conducting the search, and that no evidence was found or seized by police."

The police affidavit in support of the warrant was sealed Wednesday by an Arlington judge at the request of investigators, said Theophani Stamos, Arlington's Chief Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney.

According to the court papers, police were looking for a "silver/chrome-colored semiautomatic handgun with a black handle or similar/like artifact."

They also were looking for ammunition, holsters, and "any photographs, video footage, or other media depicting the subject posing with a firearm."

Since Arenas met with law enforcement , Wizards Coach Flip Saunders, team President Ernie Grunfeld and playersFabricio Oberto, Randy Foye, Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood, DeShawn Stevenson, JaVale McGee, Mike Miller andAndray Blatche have also spoken to authorities or the grand jury. Players Antawn Jamison, Mike James, Dominic McGuire, Earl Boykins and Nick Young say they have not been asked to be interviewed.

NBA Commissioner David Stern suspended Arenas indefinitely without pay Jan. 6. Stern said the gun incident, coupled with Arenas making light of the issue on his Twitter account and when he pretended he was shooting teammates in a pregame huddle, had led him to conclude "that he is not currently fit to take the court in an NBA game."

The incident, which is also being investigated by the NBA, has cast doubt on the future of Arenas's career at a time when the 28-year-old guard was trying to regain his all-star form after missing the last two seasons following knee surgery.

The Wizards, who endorsed the suspension, have in the past week removed a banner with Arenas's image on it that covered part of the Sixth Street facade of Verizon Center, stopped displaying Arenas's No. 0 jersey and removed all references to him in the introductory video played before home games.

Arenas met Wednesday with Billy Hunter, the head of the NBA players union, to discuss his situation. Hunter said Tuesday he wanted to ensure that Arenas receives due process and doesn't want the punishment to exceed the transgression.

"You don't use a sledgehammer to drive a tack," Hunter said. "Right now, we're just waiting for the investigation to conclude and then we'll see what level or degree of discipline the commissioner is talking about imposing. And once the commissioner makes his decision, that will determine what extent we get involved and don't get involved."

Juggling

Bass Odyssey steps up to cheers. Damian is on the microphone, Mark and Keithy around the turntables. Damian speaks about Squingy right away, saying that Trooper is going to come up and say the deceased selector should have been there. "Me a do dis fe Fada Keith an Squingy an all a de young selector dem," Damian says.

Odyssey starts out with a dub plate aimed at Trooper, then goes for Many Rivers to Cross, Rise To The Occasion earning the first forward. It is not the best of juggling rounds, though, one of the better cuts being Buju rasping about "the big Bass Odyssey from outta St Ann."

However, it is inconsistent, from the chirpy vibe to Mavado's Mockingbird to Merital Family's My Money (Ha Ha) on dub which did not have the audience feeling merry. They switched to rockers coming up to the end, playing Natural Mystic and One Dance before going back to dubs, closing with "one fe me general" on a decent note.

Ricky Trooper of Sound Trooper comes out in a camouflage and is bouncing, the audience cheering. "Likkle while Bass Odyssey play half hour me a drop asleep," he says, to laughter. He opens with a high impact Lukie D dub plate take-off of You Raise Me Up and there is the first real belly roar of the night. "Bass Odyssey I going to teach you how to play music tonight. I not even going to cuss you. I'm just going to teach you," Trooper says and drops Ghetto People Song on dub.

The crowd hollers again, but the momentum slows with a Utan Green dub. Then Trooper makes the grave misstep, paying respects to Squingy but adding, "yu neva badda dan me." The boos are instantaneous but Trooper persists, playing a dub plate that says "Bass Odyssey soun' gonna die/dem lie dung wid Squingy tonight."

The boos are even louder and, to make it worse, Trooper plays out a Fantan Mojah dub which does not sit well with the audience and again the boos boom out. He eventually works up back to a little head of steam, with Pon Yu Head (by Chino) and Kip Rich chirping, "yu no fraid a no man."

Trooper reminds all that "a me used to play Kilamanjaro" and, when King Addies came to Jamaica and killed Bass Odyssey in 1995, it was he who 'tek shame outta Jamaica eye' and beat Addies afterwards. Still, the damage has been done and Sound Trooper's round never hits a real peak.

Tune for tune

Bass Odyssey wins the toss and sends in Trooper. Trooper plays Junior Murvin advising "son don't put your hat where you can't reach it", but Odyssey responds with 'their' deejay, Bounty Killer. At "Bounty Killer pon de borderline" there is pandemonium. Trooper draws Robert French Dem No Rough Like We, which falls flat.

Odyssey is back with Bounty's intent to "sen dem go hell" and again Mas Camp quakes. Trooper tries to pull a Bounty Killer ("bway ago dead, no badda gimme no argument") but Odyssey tops it with Bounty's "action speak louder than words."

It is just the start of Trooper's troubles. He plays Ninja Man with his "permit to bury and licence to kill" and is booed. Odyssey rocks the house mightily, Damian demanding "as a elder selector an we as young selector a gwaan good gimme me ratings!", then Buju growls "a we a guard oonu life an oonu no know."

Beenie Man declares "man a bad man wicked man" for Trooper and there is a mixture of cheers and jeers; the forward is undiluted as Odyssey drops Tiger's Yuh Dead Now.

Trooper's 'Rudie Don't Fear' is rejected emphatically, 'Conqueror' does not fare much better, he at least avoids the booing with Nitty Gritty's False Alarm. On the other hand, Tosh's Burial and Bounty stating "bway yu dead dis time" strike the target for Bass Odyssey.

After Trooper plays Supercat's Don Dada to an unresponsive audience, Damian says "Ricky Trooper, yu inna problem." He says that when Squingy was playing Bass Odyssey he played for everyone and shared with the other selectors, unlike how Trooper treats his crew.

Then they play Tiger's No Wanga Gut for Trooper and the crowd howls. There are more worries for Trooper to the end of the round, Odyssey declaring that although Trooper is from Kingston and they are from St Ann, the venue is their 'Territory'.

Dub for dub

Sound Trooper wins the toss and send up Bass Odyssey. There is a glimmer of hope for Trooper, as his Kartel response to Odyssey's first dub goes over very well. But when Bass Odyssey takes the house down with a dub of Good Girl Gone Bad, then Trooper's Beenie Man/Kartel combination falls flat, it is once again down a slippery slope, with no brakes, for Sound Trooper.

Among the Odyssey dubs that struck especially hard are Assassin's reworking of Hand To Mouth to advise Trooper "Shut Yu Mout" and Queen Ifrica singing "a bway draw Trooper roun' de corner."

When Trooper plays a dub that says "Mark a fight fe de ting inna Lisa Hype mout," the sound system is booed massively. The crowd is unfair at one point, though, as a good Bushman counteraction by Sound Trooper to a Bushman song by Bass Odyssey does not get the respect it deserves.

The lid is closed on the coffin as Odyssey plays Trooper dead easy, easy, easy. Trooper says "Bass Odyssey, everything good," and plays a dub that is not even given the acknowledgement of a boo.

Odyssey lowers the coffin with Busy Signal reworking One More Night to "Trooper dead tonight." And it is true.

The publicity team of Barrington Levy has released a statement to the press questioning why the iconic reggae singer is being persecuted and not the paedophile who violated his fourteen year old daughter?

The release was issued through Platinum Camp Productions, which manages and books Mr. Levy.

According to the release, the Living Dangerously Barrington Levy was called to the police station on January 7th to be questioned. It is alleged that the singer's fourteen year old daughter invited a man alleged to be Samara Cunningham aka 'Russian', a man in Mr Levy's employ, over to her house while she was alone with a younger cousin.

The release said that Mr. Levy's 14 year-old daughter sent her younger cousin away from the house in order to be alone with the 34 year-old male called Russian. However, the cousin reportedly became suspicious and returned to the house, and peaked through an open window and found the 14 year-old and the male in a compromising situation.

The release alleges that the 34 year old man known as 'Russian' then jumped through the bedroom window and has since disappeared from the area.
The teenager then fled to the police station and gave the police an erroneous story accusing another young man of the crime. This young man was brought to the police station and interrogated by the police, but denied the allegations declaring he did not know the girl's address. It was later proved that the story she gave the police was in fact false, and that the man in question was actually Russian who has since disappeared from the community.

The irate father questioned the effectiveness of the police force. 

"Why are the police not doing more to find this paedophile, who has not yet been brought to charge after three whole days. Why dem choose fi arrest me?" Levy said.

Teddy Penderg****, one of the most successful R&B singers of the 1970s and 80s, passed away yesterday after a battle with colon cancer. He was 59. Penderg**** was diagnosed with cancer last year and had a difficult time recovering from surgery; he died at Bryn Mawr Hospital outside of his native Philadelphia, ABC News reports. The five-time Grammy-nominated singer had chart-topping hits in three different decades with 1978s Close the Door, 1988s Joy and 1991s It Shouldve Been You, plus well-known songs like Love TKO, Two Hearts with Stephanie Mills and Hold Me, a duet with Whitney Houston that featured on Houstons 1985 debut album.

Penderg**** rise to international fame was briefly halted after he was involved in a 1982 car crash that left him in the hospital for six months and paralyzed from the waist down, but he didnt let the accident prevent him from making music. He had a tremendous career ahead of him, and the accident sort of got in the way of many of those plans.

Penderg**** began his career as lead singer of the Philadelphia soul group Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes singing their Number One hit If You Dont Know Me By Now before embarking on his own solo career. He released his self-titled solo album in 1977 on Gamble & Huffs Philadelphia International Records, the first of eight albums Penderg**** would record for the label before moving to Warner Musics Asylum and Elektra. To all his fans who loved his music, thank you, his son Teddy Penderg**** II said. He will live on through his music.

Police Say Woman Killed Baby, Ate Brain

San Antonio police stand outside a home where a 3 1/2-week-old baby was decapitated and dismembered Sunday. Otty Sanchez, 33, was charged with capital murder in the death of her son, Scott Wesley Buchholtz-Sanchez. Police said Sanchez told them the devil told her to kill her baby and that she ate parts of his body, including his brain.

Jay-Z has broken his silence over the recent disses from his former Roc-A-Fella Records artist Beanie Sigel, saying that the entire beef caught him off gaurd. During an interview with Ed Lover, Jigga explained his current thoughts on Sigel. "This rap music and the competitive by nature, nothing really surprises me anymore but I'll honestly say, that was one that was like a shocker," Hov said in an interview. "When you from a certain place, cut from a certain cloth, there's certain things that's just off limits. When you cross that line, we put you in a different box. That one was a little surprising. The competitive nature of rap music dictates that's how it goes more times than it's not...I think everybody run outta ideas, it's all just marketing at this point. I don't even think it's competition anymore..."

Previously, Beanie Sigel released a Jay-Z dissed called "Average Cat" in which he warned Hov about exposing his habits to his wife, Beyonce. "This ain't a diss record, this a real record/How it feel to get exposed -- I was the fly on the wall, I witnessed," Beans raps. Teacher forms lesbian group

One of Montego Bay's prominent high schools is being plagued by acts of lesbianism, allegedly orchestrated by a teacher.

"There has always been pockets of it taking place at the school over the years," said Betha recent graduate of the institution and former member of the group. "But she came and slowly got all the little groups into one and organised it in a way that no one would suspect anything."

"She is very approachable and respected by almost everyone that interacts with her, and is always hanging out with the male teachers of the school."

Beth, who at 17 admits to having "fooled around one or two times", says that every Saturday, there is group study at the teacher's private quarters, which is located in an upscale community in Montego Bay. The study, she says, normally has no fewer than 10 students.

"If you are constantly doing well in school, your parents won't even think twice if you want to go to study, so most of the students are normally there. There is also about three students from a neighbouring school that come by."

Beth said that there is no payment, no form of prostitution and "it is just plain fun among students." The former student said that on some occasions there is a "little fooling around" among the members of the group.

Unlike other reported cases where the girls involved are considered delinquents, every member of the group is said to be a good student and top performer at the educational institution.

"None of the students involved can miss class, and they have been consistently on top of their game as far as academics is concerned. One afternoon at her home she instructed all of us to stop wearing our thumb rings as teachers were using them to identify who were dykes," she said.

The STAR learnt that the teacher, who is originally from St. Ann, tries not to show any favouritism, however members of the group know who belongs exclusively to her.

"There are occasional cat fights among those that consider themselves in pole position, but apart from that she keeps every thing under control."

Beth says that the organised lesbian acts will not end soon as it is likely that the "freshers' will be targeted next school term".

Efforts by THE STAR to obtain a comment from the administration of the school proved futile. But when contacted president of the Jamaica Teachers' Association, Hopeton Henry, said that parents need to be more vigilant.

"Parents need to know their children, their friends and check on every information their child gives to them."

"I have heard about professionals and businesswomen stalking schoolsgirls but this is the first I have I have heard about a teacher," he said.

He said that for action to be taken by the board against the teacher in question, something must be done in writing. "One of the biggest problems is that the students will not report the teacher, worse if it's a consensual affair."

In terms of the teacher, Henry said that if she is found guilty, she could be charged with misconduct and be dismissed.

Police in Fulton County, Georgia have issued two arrest warrants for troubled comedian Katt Williams, after an alleged altercation at in Atlanta hotel in November.

Williams allegedly struck Merion Powers in the face during a disagreement in the Four Seasons Hotel on November 12.

According to TMZ.com, Powers claims he went to the room to discuss a debt with Williams and when he believed the situation was escalating, he began recording audio using his cellphone.

Sources close to Williams claimed that Powers was attempting to extort the comedian over recordings Williams made.

Hotel security was called in regards to the incident, as were the police, who did not arrest Williams at the time of the incident.

Arrest warrants were issued for Williams on December 28. He must answer charges of battery and false imprisonment.

Crime got a big blow when the police made a whopping gun find at the Adolph Levy Warehouse in Kingston.

The police eized 12 high-powered firearms and more than 700 rounds of ammunition from the warehouse

Operation Kingfish spokesman, Sergeant Jubert Llewellyn, said the seizure was made during a joint effort by security personnel.

Reports are that the guns and ammunition, plus 28 magazines and atelescopic lens for a sniper rifle, were hidden in an air compressor.

The compressor was among a shipment declared as personal effects, which was coming from New York in the United States.

The Kingfish spokesman said that two women and a man, all of St Catherine, have been held in connection with the seizure. Llewellyn,however, would not reveal their identities or say whether they are linked to any of the criminal gangs operating from St Catherine.
